S1 Ep 1458#1458 How to Improve Your Exercise Outcomes (PT2) - Harps
This episode is part two of my chat about how we can optimise our time, energy, resources and genetic potential in pursuit of better exercise outcomes. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1457#1457 How to Improve Your Exercise Outcomes (PT1) - Harps
Facilitating more than forty thousand personal training sessions (my team completed over a million more) and working at the coal-face of fitness, exercise-programming, professional sport, and elite conditioning for decades, has given me a pretty good understanding of how to get the best bang for your buck when it comes to optimising your time, energy, resources and genetics, in relation to your exercise goals and needs.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1456#1456 Special & Common (PT2) - Harps & Tiff
This casual chat with Tiff turned out to be quite personally revealing for both of us, given some of the private revelations on such a public platform. We both spoke about our individual predisposition(s) to be somewhat obsessive, addictive and periodically irrational (over the years). We also talked about some of the more curious things we've each done (and hidden from people), the idea of hitting the pause button on our day-to-day life for a period of time (a month or more), the ego of thinking that we're unique and special when we're literally one of eight billion, giving our parents a 'break', how I got totally addicted to training as a kid (I was crazy), a thing called anorexia athletica, why music is therapy for me and lots more. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1454#1454 The Art of Giving Advice - Harps
Sometimes people ask for my advice and when I give it to them, they get their metaphoric nose out of joint because they don't actually want my advice; they want my endorsement. My approval. They want me to make them feel good about the thing they've already done or the thing they're going to do. Yep, giving advice can be a psychological, sociological, and emotional minefield and in this freestyle solo episode, I share my thoughts about the 'if, when, how, why and why not' of giving advice. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1453#1453 Shrinking & Pinking - Bec Brideson
Bec Brideson is a published author, business strategy consultant, Fintech Founder and keynote speaker. In this episode, we chat about the excitement, potential and terror of Al in business and life, Bec's role in bringing awareness to the idea of marketing to women (surprisingly, it's a relatively recent occurrence), the incredible evolution of marketing, branding and media over the last few decades, the branding and development of the AFLW as a commercial entity and consumer product, a crazy concept (but one-time common practice) called 'shrink it and pink it' and the idea of gender commerce. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1452#1452 Learning How To Learn Optimally - David Gillespie
David Gillespie is a polymath. That is, he knows a lot about a lot. He has a voracious appetite for learning and a few years ago, when all of his six kids(!) were in school, he did a deep dive into the educational system in Australia, in an effort to gainer a clearer understanding of how it all worked, or in some instances, didn't work. Among other things, one of the outcomes of his investigation is the amazing charity he set up (with the help of many incredible teachers); freeschool.org.au. It is a totally free resource created to help Australian students and it's built around the current curriculum (2024), for students undertaking years 7 to 12. This chat went far and wide and was a little longer than usual (for David). Enjoy. freeschool.org.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1451#1451 My 'Son' Has Grown Up - Tommy Jackett
Half a lifetime ago (for him), Tommy Jackett stumbled into my reality as a peculiarly curious, enthusiastic and passionate kid wanting to hang out with, and learn from, yours truly. Kind of weird for a teenager to be obsessed with personal development and my unique style of.. er.. teaching but nonetheless, he was. We’ve been connected ever since and now at the geriatric age of 35, he’s a dad of two, husband of one, successful businessman, gifted creative and not unlike me, something of a man-child. This was a nice chat talking about our individual and connected journeys since we met and some of the interesting lessons and insights to come from those experiences. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1450#1450 Getting Awesomer After Fifty - Shannah Kennedy & Colleen Callander
Yes, I realise how horrible the grammar is in that title; I don't care. Surprising, I know. Shannah Kennedy and Collen Callander have just released a new book called ‘Elevate: Unlock Your Extraordinary Potential’ and apart from the great discussion we had about their book, work and philosophy, what I loved about these ladies is that, at a time when some people are starting to slow down and wind down (in their fifties), these two powerhouses are building new businesses products and programs, breathing life into new ideas and creations, learning new things, writing new books, falling down, getting up, taking chances and inspiring others (of all ages) to do the same. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1449#1449 F**k Your Business Plan - Justin Herald
To say Justin Herald is a little anti-establishment and original, is like saying the ocean can get a bit wet. At the age of 25 with only $50 to his name, Justin set about changing the course of his life. He created Attitude Inc, a clothing brand that became an International licensing success turning over in excess of thirty million dollars per year. He was named the International Entrepreneur of the Year, awarded the Future Leaders Award, recognising him as one of the 50 most influential leaders of the next generation in Australia. Justin is also the Managing Director of Customer Culture, one of Australia's leading customer service and customer engagement training companies. He's also the author of eight international bestselling books and personally works with over 100 businesses each year. I loved this chat.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1448#1448 Highschool Dropout To Professor - Stephen Bird
16 year-old Stephen Bird thought that school was getting in the way of his sport, so he left. Thirteen years later, he started his academic journey and now Professor Stephen Bird has spent decades working with all kinds of athletes, teams and organisations exploring what makes them work and more importantly, what will make them work better. This was a fun chat but to be honest, I kind of felt like I was talking to me (lol).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1447#1447 The Hijacking of Your Mind - Harps
The hijacking of our minds is a silent epidemic. In the digital age, the concept of mind hijacking has transcended the boundaries of science fiction, becoming a palpable reality that affects billions of individuals around the globe. This phenomenon isn't always orchestrated by malevolent forces in a dark room but it is a consequence of the intricate interplay between technology, psychology, and the insatiable appetite of the modern economy for our attention, our data and of course, our money. Someone or something is always trying to 'sell you'; it could be a product, a program, a philosophy, a religion, a story or an image, but they can't sell you anything if you're not paying attention, so their priority is to get your attention at all costs. Their mission is to make you look. And keep looking. Or listening. To make you stay. To get you engaged. No matter what. To make you believe you need whatever it is they're selling. To hijack your mind.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1446#1446 Tech Literacy - Patrick Bonello
Well, this could be my last show. To say that this chat with Patrick got a little loose, is an understatement. If NOVA (our podcast partner) call first thing Monday morning, I definitely won't be answering that. I personally found it funny but then I have issues, so listener discretion is advised. If you're easily offended, see you next time. Apart from handjobs and Patrick’s rough hands (you were warned), we spoke about tech illiteracy (me), sending dead you (well, your ashes) to the moon, why sharing a bed with your pooch can increase your lifespan, the USB stick that self-destructs when you need it to (actual spy stuff), the impact of short videos on kids, having your brain hijacked and whether working from home is good or bad for your health. Enjoy. Or avoid.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1445#1445 Don't Tell Mum - Dr. Jodi Richardson
For forty-two years live been riding motorbikes on the road. And for forty-two years, my mum has pretended that I don't. We don't talk about it. Ever. I think she's still hoping it's a phase. Bless her maternal little socks. Motorbikes give her anxiety and me, joy. Stimulus, response. Mary, Craig. Other than the potential psychological consequences of motorbikes, in this episode of TYP, Dr. Jodi and I talk about the healing power of medical professionals who make us feel safe, calm and optimistic, why kids these days are avoiding public displays of affection, the pressure of professional athletes to be role models (when all they actually want to be is athletes), anxiety in the workplace and lots more. P.S. Don't tell Mary. Shh.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1444#1444 Life After A Premiership - Jacqui Louder
Jacqui Louder and I have been friends for twenty years, did radio together for ten of those and have both been working in similar spaces (sport, high-performance, psychology, health) for all of our adult lives. It was great to catch up and talk about life after a successful outcome (she’s the Psychologist for Collingwood FC and Melbourne Storm), hitting the reset button, competence vs. confidence, cognitive entrenchment (it’s a thing), things they don’t teach you at Uni, positional power and personal power and lots more. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1443#1443 Things You Don't Need (That You Think You Do) - Harps (Part 2)
Over the years, there have been so many things that I thought I needed, but actually didn't. Things I thought I needed to do, or be, or have. And not only did I not need them but some of the things I believed I needed, were actually anchors and barriers to my growth, resilience, development and ultimately, my success. In many cases, my beliefs about what I needed (to survive and thrive) were objectively wrong. I started out this solo episode thinking I'd talk for thirty (or so) minutes and ended up chatting for more than double that (only child, chatty AF). Enjoy. S1 Ep 1441#1441 The Psychology Behind The Physiology - Brad Cunningham
In this episode, High-Performance Coach, Trainer, Author, owner of ‘The Fit Shop’ and all-round good bloke Brad Cunningham and I discuss building a business when you don’t really know what you’re doing, understanding customers and clients and meeting their needs, the pros and cons of fitness trackers, creating lasting physical change, who makes the best Trainers and why, the proliferation of fitness businesses (are there too many?), creating a culture that people want to be in, shiny ball syndrome (“oh look… a $25,000 treadmill”), the psychology behind the physiology (of getting in shape) and lots more. Enjoy. @brad.cunningham_See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1440#1440 The Double Life - Nikki Morrison
Nikki Morrison and I are peas in a pod. Kind of. Okay, I'm a much bigger pea than her but peas, nonetheless. We have both spent much of our lives dealing with body dysmorphia, exercise obsession, disordered eating (me), an eating disorder (her), secret behaviours, control issues (around food and exercise), seeking approval and validation through our appearance, self-esteem issues and self-induced exhaustion from pretending to the world that we (both exercise Scientists, btw) had our sh*t together, when we totally didn't. Anyway, this episode is a chat about all that and lots more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1439#1439 What's Optimal For You? - Harps & Tiff
What's 'the best'... diet, lifestyle, exercise program, type of meditation, anxiety treatment, sleep protocol, career, communication style, leadership style, learning style (and so on)? You and I both know that my best job could be your worst job (mostly likely would be). Your optimal diet could make me sick. Your best workout might injure me. The movie that makes you laugh, might make me bored. The drug that alleviates your nerve pain, might make me hallucinate (actually happened to me). The ideology that makes you feel valued and connected might make feel suspicious. The motorbike ride that gives me joy, might give you terror. In life, your challenge is not to find 'the' best anything but rather, your best everything.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1438#1438 Echo Chambers, Critical Thinking & Pushing Back - Prof. Bryan Caplan
Bryan Caplan is Professor of Economics at George Mason University and a New York Times Bestselling author. He's written The Myth of the Rational Voter, named "the best political book of the year" by the New York Times, Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids, The Case Against Education, Open Borders, Labor Econ Versus the World, How Evil Are Politicians?, Don't Be a Feminist; A Letter to My Daughter, Voters As Mad Scientists, and You Will Not Stampede Me. Bryan is a deep-thinker, researcher, status-quo challenger, educator, self-confessed nerd and this conversation was anything but boring. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1437#1437 A Momentary Death - Brandon Griffith
Just like my training partner Mark (AKA The Crab), Brandon Griffith had a cardiac arrest (not a heart attack) and died for 17 minutes (the same amount of time as The Crab - weird huh?). Brandon who was a highly trained police officer (member of S.W.A.T.) was at home, stood up from his chair, took a few steps, his heart stopped and he fell forward, putting his head through a wall, dead. Oh and by the way, at the time, he was the ripe old age of.. 26! What happened during those 17 minutes and after his subsequent recovery is a fascinating chat. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1436#1436 Deep-Fried Disease - David Gillespie
TYP's Head Sh*t Stirrer and Feather Ruffler David Gillespie is back and as always, he doesn't disappoint. We finish off our previous conversation (from his last episode) about the declining state of blokes' swimmers and the impending shortage of potential dads, and then he sheds some light on some fascinating (and alarming) information about a certain group of men who are six-times more likely to get testicular cancer (than their counterparts), just because of their particular diet. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1435#1435 WTF Is 'A Good Life?' - Harps
We all want one, but what is it? Is it the same for all of us? Is it the same for you now versus you ten years ago? Can a person in a great ‘life situation' be having a bad 'life experience'? Is it about what's happening around us or within us? Or maybe both? Can we reach the top of the mountain only to discover that we climbed the wrong mountain? Can we design and create our own good life? Can we have a good life in a less-than-ideal situation? This episode, is me thinking out loud about something l've been chatting with people about for decades. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1434#1434 Be Kind To You - Dr Michelle Woolhouse
According to Integrative Doctor Michelle Woolhouse, sometimes we are our own worst enemy. I know I can be somewhat 'self-critical' (to say the least) and to be totally honest, part of me feels like I need to treat myself somewhat harshly to get the best out of me. Clearly, I have some deep-seated, alpha-male bullsh*t that needs to be dealt with (lol). Anyway, apart from my numerous issues, the Good Doc and I chat about the intersection of East and West in Integrative Medicine, how our thinking affects our immune system (psychoneuroimmunology, PNI), how self-healing works, the strategic use of placebos as a legitimate treatment option, what inflammation does to our health, the power of encouragement to improve performance, mood and mindset, how a doctor's communication style with a patient can impact medical outcomes (for better or worse) and lots more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1433#1433 Take Control Of Your Life - Harps
If you don't take control of your life, it will take control of you and you probably won't like the outcome. But you know this already. This is not news. So, what's stopping you? Your life is always telling you something. Always sending you messages. Informing you. Whispering. Screaming. About how you're living. What you're doing and not doing. What's great and what's crap. What's working and what's not. What's healthy and what's toxic. What's productive and what's destructive. Don't be a passenger in your own life. Get in the driver's seat.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1142#1432 Spooning A Dugong - Patrick Bonello
The reason for this curious title is apparent early in the conversation. In this episode, Patrick and I talk about the ever evolving technological landscape, my strange habit of saying ‘please and thank you' to ChatGPT (in the hope that, in the robot uprising they will remember my courtesy), the new wildly expense Apple Vision Pro googles, the radio work Patrick has been doing to provide sporting commentary for people with vision impairment, my impending Tai Chi lessons (with Patrick the Tai Chi guru), new glasses for blind people (weird, I know) that can read and translate to audio for the wearer and lots more. Enjoy websitesnow.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1431#1431 Scared of Being Scared - Harps
Being scared is an unavoidable part of being human. Of course we don't love it but perhaps choosing to do things certain things that scare us (not all) is a good idea? An opportunity for growth, learning, skill-development, resilience and understanding? An opportunity to build our courage muscles? Maybe some of the things we're scared of, need to be embraced, not avoided? I'm of the opinion that the right amount (and type) of 'scared' can change our lives (and us) for the better.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ep 1430#1430 Science (ish) - Matty Lansdown
In this somewhat unique episode, Food Scientist, Nutritionist and TYP regular Matty Lansdown and I discuss the recent Netflix series titled 'You Are What You Eat', which extols the virtues of a plant-based diet. In a time when people can get a little hysterical (on all sides) about how to eat, exercise, vote, live (etc.), it can be tough to have an objective and reasonable conversation about a topic that can divide, confuse and even incite hate speech. BTW, one of my best friends (Patrick, who features on TYP) is a healthy vegan, so I'm definitely not a critic but rather, a curious observer of what's currently happening in the great food debate.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1429#1429 Bad Things Happen To Good People - Mark Berridge
Let's be honest.. life's not fair, it doesn't care about your feelings, bad things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people (WTF?), hard work doesn't always pay off and in general terms... sh*t happens. And in the middle of the unfairness, the mayhem and the discomfort (and also., the good, joyful and beautiful), you and I need to do what we can, where we are, with what we've got to work with. Well, Mark Berridge has been navigating the mess and mayhem in a very specific way for the last five years and he joins me on this episode to discuss the practical, emotional and psychological challenges of having your reality changed forever in a single moment. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1428#1428 Life After Footy - Luke Darcy
Luke Darcy is a former AFL champion, TV presenter, sports commentator, entrepreneur, father of 4 and husband to the lovely Rebecca (who was a brilliant PT in one of my gyms). Luke and I went far and wide in this catch-up; talking about life after professional sport, some funny moments as an inept (and reluctant) tennis commentator, how he trained himself to commentate on the footy as a kid, the stress of watching his 209cm son (Sam) playing in the AFL, building a retreat in Bali, becoming a businessman and lots more. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1427#1427 Radical Self-Awareness - Harps
Do you understand you? Who you are, how you are and why you are, the way you are? Sometimes I don't understand my own thoughts, actions, reactions, choices and outcomes, and l've been on a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness and self-regulation for most of my adult life! And while I definitely haven't reached enlightenment, l'm happy to say that I have moved the self-awareness needle a little over the last few decades. I believe that having a greater understanding and awareness of ourselves on a physical, mental, emotional and sociological level is crucial to improving our life, both practically and experientially. Anyway, this episode is me thinking out-loud about all of that. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1426#1426 Addiction, Connection & Reinvention - Dayne Beams
Dayne Beams was an elite AFL player, having played 177 games for Collingwood and Brisbane between 2009 and 2020. Dayne was named in the all-Australian team, he is a Collingwood premiership player, he captained Brisbane for two years, won best & fairest awards at both Collingwood and Brisbane, and for a range of interesting reasons (which you'll hear about in this chat), he left footy at the ripe old age of 30. In this episode of TYP, Dayne and I talk about his battle with addiction (prescription drugs and gambling) and the dramatic (and dangerous) start to his sobriety journey, we talk about mental health, losing and gaining friends, self-discovery, finding a new purpose, connecting with people who have been where we are, and lots more. EnjoySee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1425#1425 Come Again? - David Gillespie
It's official; blokes are shooting weaker loads. Less volume and fewer swimmers. Science huh? If I get too technical, let me know. Over the last eighty years, sperm production by the average producer (there's a term) is down by about seventy-five percent; from 134 million sperm (per ml) on average in 1941, to less than 40 million (per ml) in recent times. Typical sperm production and ejaculate volume (hope you're not eating breakfast) are both way down and continue to plummet. According to David Gillespie, at our current trajectory, by 2040 the average bloke's sperm production will make him unviable for fatherhood. So why is this happening and what can we do about it? Take a listen.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1424#1424 Cancer Gives No F**ks - Zac Pettit
When Zac Pettit lost his best mate Zane to osteosarcoma, his life was forever changed. Being by his mate's side as he bravely battled cancer required Zac to navigate a broad range of practical, psychological, emotional and personal challenges that, at the time, were incomprehensible and somewhat terrifying for the (then) teenager. These days, Zac is running ultra-marathons, working as a sparky and doing his best to educate and inform the public about osteosarcoma, along with supporting people emotionally, practically and financially who are on their own cancer journey. He does this through the not-for-profit he created called T2KO. Good dude, good chat. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1423#1423 Self-Help Cliches & Other Bullsh*t - Harps & Tiff (PT2)
There's self-help, the product (programs, books, courses, workshops, podcasts), and there's self-help the practical, roll-up-yer-sleeves, raise a sweat, step into the unknown, periodically terrifying, process. In other words, there's the theory of self-help and there's the practical work required to literally help yourself. And while the self-help theory is not all junk (but plenty is), it's the self-help practice (the doing, not just the knowing), that will change your life. In this episode, Tiff and I endeavour to sort the feel-good, pseudo-scientific, psycho-babble, self-help-fairy-floss, from the real-world, not-always-comfortable information and ideas which can actually move the needle when it comes to changing our lives. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1421#1421 Dietary Confusion, Divergence & Cults - Kate Save
We humans have a propensity to make things harder than they need to be and without doubt, one of the things we complicate the f**k out of, is food. Has there ever been more confusion, disagreement and (let's be honest) hysteria around how we should eat and why? Echo chambers. Food cults. Pro this. Anti that. Ask ten experts (whatever 'expert' means) one question about diet and you may very well get ten different answers from people with multiple degrees, years of experience and no lack of confidence. In this fun chat, Dietician and Exercise Physiologist Kate Save and I don't provide the nutritional Holy Grail, but we do our best to offer some simple and practical ideas, simplify some of unnecessarily complex recommendations and sort through some of the straight-up nutritional BS. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1420#1420 Transcendent Thinking - Harps
Can we become more effective thinkers? Can we expand our curiosity, creativity, awareness and cognitive output? In the simplest of terms, can we think better? And can that higher level thinking lead to higher level choices, behaviours and outcomes? Can we rise above the immediate context or subjective experience to access a more universal understanding, find more innovative and effective solutions, tap into profound insights and maybe even discover a sense of interconnectedness with a reality bigger than us? I believe we can. This is a conversation (well, monologue) about that.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1419#1419 Mindless Scrolling, Poisonous Booze & Fake Milk - Kate Save
I love connecting with Kate Save and this chat was a freestyle catch-up where the topics ranged from my social media sabbatical, the hypnotic power of mindless scrolling and addictive personalities, through to fake milks, cold exposure and why our body treats alcohol like a poison. Kate is the CEO and Co-founder of Be Fit Food (having featured on ‘Shark Tank'), she is a Clinical Dietitian, an Exercise Physiologist, a Diabetes Educator, a successful Entrepreneur, a Wife, Mum and inspiration to many. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1418#1418 The Reality Stick - Harps
Life doesn't care about your feelings, goals, dreams or happiness; your mum might care (or not), but life doesn't. Some people will be bothered by your success, and some people will even want you to fail. Yes it's sh*t, but it's also true. Opportunity probably won't 'knock' and you probably won't 'fall on your feet', so you might have to create your own opportunities, lean into the discomfort and consciously and courageously build your own version of success. Sometimes the right path is the uncomfortable path and sometimes hard work doesn't pay off. Sometimes life is beautiful and sometimes it sucks. Sometimes people are incredible and sometimes they also suck. Sometimes pain is growth and sometimes, it's just pain. And in the middle of the good and bad, the mess and mayhem, the awesome and awful, is you. The author of your own story.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1417#1417 Challenging The Status Quo - Niraj Naik (PT2)
This episode with Niraj Naik was a mind-expanding, paradigm-shifting and enlightening conversation. For me anyway. I suspect it's a conversation that some people will listen to multiple times and others might find it a little to woo-woo for their liking. Which I get. But personally, I loved it. Niraj is a Pharmacist turned holistic health and breathwork expert, professional musician, serial entrepreneur, and one of the world's most sought-after spiritual ceremony facilitators. My intention going in was a 40-50 minute chat, but what eventuated was a two-part 75-minute chat, that I didn't want to end. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ep 1413#1413 Concussion, Sugar & Fluoride - David Gillespie
The thing about a David Gillespie chat is, I never know WTF he's gonna talk about, where the conversation will go, whether l'll be smart enough to keep up and how many people he's gonna piss off with his insights. This time we spoke about some fascinating new research highlighting the significantly greater risk of concussion for women in contact sports, specifically, the AFLW which is 4-6 higher for women. We also spoke about the dangers of fluoride (yes, fluoride), the crazy amount of sugar consumed by the average Aussie per day and whether or not, fruit gets the tick of approval from the Chief of the Sugar Police. S1 Ep 1410#1410 Building A Brain In The Lab - Dr. Alon Loeffler
Dr. Alon Loeffler is a scientist specialising in Synthetic Biological Intelligence, with his key research focus being the interplay between structure and function in neuro-memristive nanowire networks. What? (I hear you say) In simple terms, he is building a brain (of sorts) in the lab. At the very least, synthetic neurons (brain cells) which he's currently 'teaching' to play basic computer games (like Pong). Moving into the future, it's possible that his work will have a myriad of applications, especially in the medical space. Alon's interests lie at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, nanotechnolosy and philosophy; areas such as brain-computer interface, neuroengineering and neuromorphics. You might wanna have a coffee before you listen to this (lol). Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1409#1409 The Baby In The Box On The Battlefield - Emmanuel Kelly
I loved this conversation and I love Emmanuel Kelly. He is a true inspiration and I rarely say that because I think typically, it's an overused cliché. But not with this bloke. Emmanuel was found as an infant in a box on a battlefield on the border of Iraq. At an incredibly tender age, Emmanuel witnessed executions, bombings, and wondered every day if that day would be his last. At age 7, he was brought to Australia by humanitarian Moira Kelly for life changing surgery and learned to walk for the first time. After overcoming tremendous obstacles, and at only 18 years of age, Emmanuel became an Australian X Factor sensation, garnering over 500M views online. He has since toured with Coldplay, opened for Snoop Dog, performed with David Foster and legendary DJ Paul Oakenfold and performed at the United Nations Assembly multiple times. For me, conversations like this remind me of how awesome people can be. And Emmanuel is just that. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
