Ep 353: How To Trust That You're Building Your Business The Right Way
EIt's tempting to look at others in our industry to see if we're doing things the right way, especially when others are more successful than us. Ep 350: How To Get On Top Of Your Life Admin + Never Fall Behind Again
EPerfectionists often struggle with life admin tasks. There always seems to be something to clean, fix or take care of in our day-to-day lives - tasks that won't take too long to do individually, but seem never-ending. If you feel like your life admin tasks are never-ending loose ends, this episode is going to help! Ep 349: When To Say No To A Business Opportunity + How To Do It Without Being Rude
EIn this episode I want to talk to you about why it's ok to say no to a business opportunity (especially when you've already said yes). Saying no can feel awkward for perfectionist business owners - we often think we need to follow through with an opportunity that isn't a good fit because we already said yes. But there are times when an opportunity isn't right for you and your stage of business. When that happens, your growth will come from clearly saying no. And you can do it without being rude and without drama. Tune in to learn how to discern if a business opportunity is a good fit for you and practical advice on saying no without being rude. I also share helpful examples of times I've said no after saying yes in my business (and why I made that decision). In This Episode You'll Learn: Why it's ok to say no to an opportunity or request after you've already said yes How to say no without being rude How to discern whether your growth is saying no or continuing to be a yes Times in my business where I've said no after saying yes and why I did it PGSD is opening to new students on 26 October 2022: The PGSD Process will have you getting out of your own way in your business and planning properly as a perfectionist. Ep 348: [CLEAN REST SERIES] How My Clean Rest Practice Has Evolved + What I Do When I'm Resting
EI first experimented with clean rest in the summer of 2014 (even though I didn't have a name for it at the time). I returned to clean rest in 2018 because I knew things had to change. I was tired of burning out every time I had a major promotion or launch going on. Now, clean rest is the backbone of my business and its success. Clean rest is what grounds me AND gives me the courage to put myself - and my ideas - out into the world (even when they're not perfect). And it's the reason I haven't burned out in more than 3 years (even though I'm now making more money than I ever have). So far, this series has shared what clean rest is and why it's essential for perfectionists, why working from a to-do list means you get less clean rest, practical advice to help you plan out and honour your clean rest, and what counts (and doesn't count) as clean rest. In the final episode, I talk about how my journey with clean rest has evolved and what I personally like to get up to in my time off. In This Episode You'll Learn: How I discovered clean rest in 2014 How clean rest helped me stopped burning out after busy seasons How my clean rest has evolved to become the backbone of my business' success What clean rest looks like for me (especially now that I'm a mum) PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 347: [CLEAN REST SERIES] What Counts As Clean Rest + What Doesn't
EThere's something that every perfectionist needs to know about clean rest: Clean rest that doesn't feel restorative is STILL clean rest. Sometimes clean rest will have you feeling energised, recharged, peaceful, present and inspired. Other times you'll feel bored and restless. And that's ok because feeling 'good' isn't what defines time off your business as clean rest. And because you're a human being (we're not designed to feel happy 24/7). Learning to have your own back, regardless of whether you feel good or not, will always be an important part of your clean rest practice. This is why it's so important to let yourself rest regardless of how you feel AND to not make it mean anything if it doesn't always feel perfect to you. I go into more detail as to why this is the case, as well as what counts as clean rest versus what doesn't, as I coach PGSDer Jenna in this episode. In This Episode You'll Learn: A deeper understanding of what it really means to get clean rest What counts as clean rest versus what doesn't Why it's important to let yourself rest (even if it doesn't feel perfect) How getting clean rest helps you work towards your business goals consistently PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 346: [CLEAN REST SERIES] Practical Advice To Help You Plan Out + Honour Your Clean Rest
EIn the previous episode of my clean rest series, I talked about how working from a to-do list makes it hard to get clean rest. So what should you do instead? Where does clean rest go in your calendar and how much of it do you need? And how do you rest when you've planned, so you honour your rest? I answer these questions and give you practical advice in today's episode. If you're wondering how to plan out your clean rest properly each week, listen in. In This Episode You'll Learn: How to plan out your clean rest properly each week Where clean rest is scheduled in your calendar How much clean rest you need How to honour your clean rest PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 345: [CLEAN REST SERIES] 5 Reasons You Don't Get Enough Clean Rest When You're Working From A To-Do List
EWe perfectionists LOVE a good to-do list… But working from a to-do list makes it really challenging to get enough clean rest - even if you're making a real effort to have more work-life balance. And I share the five reasons why - and helpful examples for each reason - in this second episode of my clean rest series. If you only get a break from your business when you're busy recovering from burnout, this clean rest series - and today's episode in particular - is going to be insanely helpful. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why there's never any time for rest when you work from a to-do list Why you get less done with a to-do list versus when you plan properly Why you feel behind when you work from a to-do list How working from a to-do list makes it hard to trust yourself to be consistent PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 344: [CLEAN REST SERIES] Clean Rest Basics + Why It's Essential For Perfectionists
EIf you're sick of being behind in your business (even though you're doing ALL the things), this episode is for you. I explain what clean rest is (i.e. resting without guilt) and why it's essential for perfectionists. It may not feel like it, but clean rest will help you work better and build a better business (with less overwhelm, less procrastination and less burnout). You'll have plenty of clean rest scheduled in your calendar when you're planning properly as a perfectionist. All that clean rest won't be scary because you'll be so clear on what's important vs what isn't, when you work best and how to keep your plans workable so you never fall behind. You'll be able to ENJOY your time off. It's time to start planning properly as a perfectionist - and that includes getting the clean rest you need. And anyone can learn how… In This Episode You'll Learn: Why you've always struggled to rest without feeling guilty How clean rest helps you to get MORE done in your business Why it's safe to rest, even if you feel like your business will fall apart if you take time off PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 342: How To Plan Properly As A Perfectionist Using Power Planning
ENote: This episode is the audio version of my new video series How To Plan Properly As A Perfectionist. Watch the video series HERE. When perfectionists follow the same planning advice as everyone else, we get in our way. That's why the first step in the PGSD Process is making the Three Month Commitment to practice Power Planning. Power Planning covers everything perfectionists must do to plan properly. It's a simple 3 step process that anyone can learn, and I walk you through it in detail in today's episode. Listening in will help you follow through with your plans (even when the unexpected happens), get your most important tasks done consistently and effectively, and finish each day feeling accomplished and organized. Ep 341: How I Grew My Podcast To 2 Million Downloads Without Following The Rules
EI hadn't thought to do an episode on how I built my podcast until my friend Alexander James (who I interviewed in Episode 340) started asking for the details. So I thought that I'd record an episode on how I built my podcast to 2 million downloads without following industry best practices. This episode is about podcasting AND it's about how you can be successful even when you're not doing things the same way as everyone else in your industry - no matter what you're working on. If you feel called to do things your way, this one's for you. In This Episode You'll Learn: The thoughts I have about my podcast that make it easy for me to be consistent Why I didn't follow the advice given by experts on how to build a successful podcast How I figured out what I wanted my podcast to be like Why it's easy for me not to compare my podcast with other people's The practical things I do so that I felt safe publishing 'imperfect' episodes PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will have you planning properly as a perfectionist and getting out of your own way in your business. Ep 339: Planned Profit Loss + How To Feel Safe When Money Isn't Flowing In
EIn this episode I want to talk to you about planned profit loss and how to feel safe when money ISN'T flowing in. When it comes to the entrepreneurial world, we see so many examples of people who are doubling, tripling and quadrupling their revenue year after year - and this creates the expectation that many should always be flowing in. And that certainly hasn't been the reality for me! So in the episode I want to share a breakdown of my revenue growth over the years so that you can see what it looks like for the other 98% of entrepreneurs who aren't quantum leaping. And why that's normal and also completely safe. Tune in as I share a breakdown of my business figures from 2018 to now - as well as why I had a period of planned profit loss in 2021 - so that you can feel emotionally safe when money isn't flowing in, rather than freaking the hell out. In This Episode You'll Learn: A breakdown of my business revenue and expenses from 2018 to now How to tell when planned profit loss is self-sabotage versus when it's not Why I felt ashamed that my business wasn't making more money How my business savings have helped me make long-term decisions PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. Ep 338: Getting Your Work Done Early + Easily (Part 3: Launch Period)
EEvery day during the most recent PGSD launch, I recorded a little snippet for the podcast. This episode is a compilation of those snippets, with me checking the launch sign up numbers 'live', sharing my raw reactions as well as what we did when the sign up numbers were NOT where we expected them to be. I also share how I kept myself out of shame and panic AND a full launch debrief with my biggest lessons too. In case you missed the first episode in this three part series (Episode 336), throughout March, April and May I documented the work I had to do on my perfectionism handbrake to become someone who gets all of their launch content created way ahead of time, without overthinking or overworking. Despite the work I've done on this over the years I was still leaving some of my launch content until the last minute. I don't want to be someone who hits their goals from a place of pressure anymore, even if this approach has worked incredibly well for me in the past. If you have a tendency to put off anything selling related until the last minute (or you avoid it altogether) then this series is going to help you get out of your own way. I recommend starting at Episode 336. If you haven't listened to my podcast before, this series is a great place to start! Ep 337: Getting Your Work Done Early + Easily (Part 2: Pre-Launch Period)
EThis episode is the second part in a three part series on how to get your work done early and easily. In this episode I share how I navigated the weeks AFTER all the content for the most recent PGSD launch was complete (but before the launch began). Getting comfortable with this 'limbo' period was an important part of becoming someone who gets shit done early. And I share all the behind the scenes of that in today's episode. In case you missed the first episode in the series (Episode 336), throughout March, April and May I documented the work I had to do on my perfectionism handbrake to become someone who gets all of their launch content created way ahead of time, without overthinking or overworking. Despite the work I've done on this over the years I was still leaving some of my launch content until the last minute. And I didn't want to do that anymore! Now that I'm a mother, clean rest is more important to me than ever before as is being an example of what it looks like to be in a growth mindset. I don't want to be someone who hits their goals from a place of pressure anymore, even if this approach has worked incredibly well for me in the past. No matter what kind of business you have, you're going to be selling something. And if you have a tendency to put off anything selling related until the last minute (or you avoid it altogether) then this series is going to help you get out of your own way. Ep 335: How I'm Using Power Planning + Human Design To Find My Work Rhythm
EWhen it comes to finding our work rhythms, perfectionist business owners tend to look at the rules and how other people are doing things. We sometimes ignore our own intuition and wisdom - an important part of discovering what works best for us. To illustrate how this process could look like, I'm chatting about what my work rhythm is evolving into as I learn more about myself from using Power Planning, the tools inside PGSD, and Human Design. If you've been in a work rhythm that hasn't been working as best as it could for you, this episode is for you! In This Episode You'll Learn: How Power Planning works with other modalities like Human Design Why I felt like I needed to review and reflect on my work rhythm Why I'm creating seasons in my business and what this looks like practically PGSD is opening to new students on 27 July 2022: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. Or that you don't know what to submit for coaching on inside PGSD - even though you know there's plenty of work to do on your perfectionism handbrake? This episode will help! In this episode, I'm sharing what a quarterly self-coaching curriculum is, why you need one and the 5 steps to creating one. Ep 333: Your First Six Weeks Of Power Planning with Erin, Naomi and Estelle
EErin, Naomi and Estelle signed up for PGSD in January 2022. They knew that they needed to get out of their own way in their businesses. And they knew that planning properly as a perfectionist was the first step… Erin is a copywriter who was spending an embarrassing amount (those are her words!) on courses, coaches and marketing advice only to self-sabotage when it came time to pitch herself. Naomi is a website designer and developer who was creating vague goals and plans (and endless to-do lists) to take her business full-time. Estelle is a fashion designer whose perfectionism handbrake was stopping her from following her launch plan and telling people about her designs. They all made the Three Month Commitment to Power Planning, set their Growth Goals and started planning properly. And what happened next was a little different for each of them… So I invited them on the podcast to talk about what to expect in your first 6 weeks of Power Planning. This episode is going to normalise what often happens when you start Power Planning so that you never mistakenly think you're off track. In This Episode You'll Learn: The hidden planning mistakes that Erin, Naomi and Estelle were making before PGSD How they knew it was the right time to sign up for PGSD How Power Planning helps you to be a more present parent What to expect in your first six weeks of Power Planning (what's normal and what isn't) The difference between time blocking and Power Planning How to keep Power Planning when a big life event comes up (like surgery) Exactly how Power Planning helps you figure out your needle movers Why it's ok if your Power Hour takes more than 60 minutes Sign up for PGSD: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. Ep 332: Making $34,000 By Doing What You Know You Need To Do with Natalie Koons
EOur most successful PGSDers *know* what they need to do to build their business to $100,000 - they just can't get themselves to do it. This was the case for PGSDer Natalie Koons. In August 2021, she invested $6,000 in a business coach to teach her how to launch her course on sock knitting (Natalie is a knitter and crocheter). She figured that if could just find someone to tell her how to launch an online course - and she invested a large enough amount of money into learning how to do it - she'd be able to find the motivation to get it done. But even though Natalie knew WHAT she needed to do to launch her course, she didn't know HOW to get herself to do it. She was busy creating consistent content for her YouTube channel, replying to comments and working on other creative projects. And her launch tasks kept getting moved from one to-do list to the next… The launch wasn't happening so Natalie decided to put the business coaching on pause. She didn't know what was wrong and why she couldn't get herself to implement the launching strategy she'd invested so much money in. Then Natalie came across my podcast. She quickly realised that her perfectionism handbrake had been making her procrasti-work and that there was a simple process she could follow to get out of her own way. On 11 January 2022, Natalie signed up for PGSD without hesitation. She took her business coaching off pause. And she used the PGSD Process to get herself to do the scary things her business coach was telling her to do. On 3 March 2022, Natalie posted in her Persistence Log to say that she had 125 people sign up for her sock knitting course and made over $34,000. With her perfectionist mindset on her side, Natalie was able to quickly launch her course (which she'd been putting off doing for MONTHS). Natalie made 3 x as much as she needed to hit her first quarterly milestone for her Growth Goal (which had felt impossible only a few weeks earlier). And that's even though she was just a beginner at Power Planning and only worked through the first few modules of the PGSD Process… In today's episode, I talk to Natalie about how the PGSD Process got her to implement her business coach's advice and allowed her to breeze past her first $10,000 month in her business. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why Natalie joined PGSD before listening to every episode of The Perfectionism Project Why she wasn't able to implement her business coaches advice before PGSD The hidden planning mistakes Natalie was making before Power Planning The fears Natalie had around her audience finding out that she wants to make money The self-coaching Natalie did during her launch How Power Planning has helped Natalie tap into her creativity Sign up for PGSD: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. EUntil you start thinking of yourself as a non-procrastinator, you'll always be left wondering how long your latest burst of productivity will last. That's why I'm sharing the 3 simple steps to becoming a non-procrastinator in the 5th and final part of my procrastination series. You don't have to wait to stop procrastinating before you start thinking of yourself as a non-procrastinator. In fact, you won't stop procrastinating UNTIL you start thinking of yourself that way. In the episode I share why this is the case and exactly what to do. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why you need to plan properly as a perfectionist to become a non-procrastinator The reason you should aim for 80% follow through (for needle movers and clean rest) Why resting without guilt is part of becoming a non-procrastinator How PGSD will get you out of your own way and the sign up details PGSD is opening to new students on 27 April 2022: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. Ep 330: [PROCRASTINATION SERIES] The Surprising Connection Between Clean Rest + Procrasti-Working
EThe more clean rest you get, the less you will procrasti-work. And the less you procrasti-work, the more money you will make in your business. You'll learn exactly why this is true - and what to do if you feel resistant to clean rest - in this episode. This episode is for you if you work longer hours or weekends to make up for what you didn't complete during the week, you love the feeling of checking items off your to-do list but never feel 'done', a refund request or a negative review feels like a personal attack or you can't remember the last time you took a full day off your business. That's what I'm sharing in this episode - the third part in my procrastination series here on the podcast. EYou don't need to completely stop procrastinating in order to hit your money goals and enjoy the process of doing it. In the second episode in my procrastination series I share 7 reasons why zero procrastination is not the goal… Procrastination is not a problem. And it's safe to let procrastination be ok (the less shame you have about procrastinating, the less desire you'll have to procrastinate). Tune into this episode to learn why. Ep 327: [PROCRASTINATION SERIES] The 3 Types Of Procrasti-Working
EProcrasti-working is when we work on our business as a form of procrastination. And if you do it, you're not alone. Perfectionist entrepreneurs don't procrastinate in the same ways as everyone else. Instead of avoiding work, we procrasti-work. This can look like scrambling to get all of your content created each week, moving sales tasks from one to-do list to the next or eating lunch at your desk while procrasti-learning something about marketing. This episode will teach you about the 3 types of procrasti-working. By the end of the episode, you'll know how to spot procrasti-working and my proven process for cutting it in half. Plus you'll learn why procrasti-working is a normal part of building a successful business (I still do it) and why zero procrastination is not the goal. In this episode I dissect procrastination advice from some of the top ranked articles on google and explain why this advice doesn't work for perfectionists. The episode is worth listening to for this alone. All you need to do is hit play… In This Episode You'll Learn: The difference between working and procrasti-working The hidden reasons that perfectionists procrasti-work What happens when we cut our procrasti-working in half Why common procrastination advice doesn't work for perfectionists The 3 types of procrasti-working and how to tell whether you're doing them PGSD is opening to new students on 27 April 2022: The PGSD Process will get you out of your own way in your business and have you making more money more easily. As part of planning properly as perfectionists we do a Weekly Review at the end of each week of Power Planning. And your Persistence Log in the PGSD Forum is the perfect place to share that - and I'll let Jenna tell you why! In this episode, I'm answering some of the most common questions that come up for perfectionist entrepreneurs when they start following this process. Ep 323: Why You Keep Putting Off Content Creation
EIs there a part of your business that you keep saying you're going to work on, but you secretly know you won't? It could be adding new client testimonials to your website, finalising and posting your updated pricing or creating your marketing funnel to reach your perfect client. You know how to do these tasks (maybe you've even done them for others in the past) - and yet a part of you is resistant to doing them for yourself. When you sit down to do them, you just don't feel like it. They feel too hard to complete. It's easier to avoid them altogether and tackle something else. Why is it so hard to take action on some business tasks, when you easily complete the same tasks for others? Why do you keep putting off content creation, even though you know what you need to do and you've done it before. In today's episode, we share a snippet of a PGSD coaching call addressing this struggle and more. Heather (@thewriterremedy on Instagram) submitted to get coached because she wasn't sure when it was a good time to change things in her business (and when not to change them). She also noticed that she was procrastinating on the tasks related to the changes she wanted to make. She had easily done the same tasks for others, yet it felt so hard to follow through on these tasks for her own business. PGSD Coach Michelle helped her figure this out, as well as: How her self-worth can get entangled with her work What making a three month commitment to changing a part of her self-image looks like How to use Power Planning as a tool to release her perfectionism handbrake Note: Thank you Heather for giving me permission to share this call on the podcast. We appreciate you! Tune in to learn why you keep putting off content creation and exactly what to do about it. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why we feel resistant to doing the business tasks we know we need to do How to use Power Planning to create consistent content The mistakes you're making with Power Planning that are making it hard to follow through Why procrastination isn't a problem Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 322: How To Stay Motivated To Work On Your Business
EIn this episode I'm going to be showing you how Power Planning and Clean Rest will keep you motivated to show up in your business. If you've been wondering how to stay motivated and show up consistently, week after week after week - this episode will help you understand how following the PGSD Process will help you stay motivated as you build your business. Especially if you've been in the all-or-nothing cycle of showing up perfectly for a few weeks and then abandoning your goals and your content calendar. In This Episode You'll Learn: What we can learn from children about staying motivated Why the goal isn't getting your entire to-do list in your calendar Why it's important to make plans for your unmotivated self The hidden benefits of resting without guilt Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 321: 3 Things You Need To Know About Your Perfectionism Handbrake
EIn this episode we are going to be talking about your perfectionism handbrake - what it is, how to release it and feel safe doing so. This is going to be what helps you to get out of your own way in your business so you're showing up fully, serving your customers and clients, making more money and enjoying the day to day of being in business. For about a year now I've been talking about perfectionism being a handbrake. This emerged as a response to the mentality that society has around perfectionism - that it's a personality flaw or that it's because we don't intellectually understand that done is better than perfect. Ep 320: The Importance Of A Growth Goal + How To Tell Whether It's Working
EIn this episode I'm going to be talking about the importance of a Growth Goal and some of the signs it's working to get you out of your own way in your business. If you're a PGSDer, or you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you'll be familiar with a concept that I teach called the Impossible Goal. The Impossible Goal is a goal that is set above what is possible for yourself. And by setting a goal in that way, we're asking ourselves to grow into the person that can achieve that goal - rather than setting a 'realistic' goal that our present day self could achieve. This goal does wonders when it comes to taking your perfectionism work from an intellectual pursuit to a day-to-day practice. And from now on, we're going to be calling it a Growth Goal. In this episode, I share why I'm changing the name and what's normal to expect as you pursue your Growth Goal. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why the Impossible Goal is now called the Growth Goal How to tell if you've set your Growth Goal too high The 5 stages of pursuing your Growth Goal and why each one is part of the process Why it's worth pursuing a Growth Goal even with the ups and downs Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject Episode 307: [Planning Series] Procrasti-Planning Versus Planning Properly

Ep 319: How To Cure Your Addiction To Feeling Behind
EWhile perfectionists want everything in their lives to be perfectly organised, the irony is that they actually stop themselves from creating this reality - without even realising it! And one of the reasons they do this is because of their secret addiction to feeling behind. Most perfectionists would swear that they don't want to feel behind, so it can be confronting to realise that you might be manufacturing behindness (if that's a word!) in your life. In this episode I'm talking about why we do this, 2 signs that you're secretly addicted to chaos and what to do about it. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why perfectionists can become addicted to feeling behind The sneaky ways perfectionists make themselves feel more behind The real reason you never feel completely organised How feeling behind is secretly serving you Two ways that the addiction to feeling behind manifests for perfectionists How to stop being addicted to feeling behind Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 315: When Re-Doing Your Work Is Self-Sabotage + When It's Not
EOur perfectionism often makes us think that the work we've produced isn't good enough and that we need to re-do it. This usually turns into us doing our work over again and again. And when we get into this habit, it's very disheartening to even approach a task so we only end up procrastinating on it and putting it off. In this episode, I'm talking about why I wanted to re-record two podcast episodes and how I came to a decision as to whether or not to let myself do it. If you find yourself re-doing your work so it's good enough or constantly making little edits then this episode will help you figure out when re-doing your work is self-sabotage and when it's not. In This Episode You'll Learn: What happens if we always let ourselves re-do our work How I was able to tell whether re-recording podcast episodes was self-sabotage What all-or-nothing thinking has to do with re-doing our work Why you can't listen to your brain every time it says your work isn't good enough Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 314: How To Stop Revenge Bedtime Procrastination
ERevenge bedtime procrastination is something most perfectionists struggle to stop. When you're not planning properly as a perfectionist, you put more business tasks on your to-do list than you have time to complete. Because you want to be productive, you put pressure on yourself to get everything done. But then you don't know what to do first… You end up working on a random business task until it's 80% done (and then get distracted by something else) or you do nothing at all. All the while, you're feeling guilty that you're so far behind. You're thinking about all of the things you should be doing that aren't getting done (like posting consistently on social media). And you're trying to catch up on all of the life admin your past self has delegated to you. Every day has an undercurrent of overwhelm, panic and stress. And with every unproductive day that passes, it only gets harder to trust you'll get everything done. You're burned out from all the stopping and starting. And you're beginning to wonder if you'll ever change. But then comes bedtime. You promised yourself you'd get to bed on time but you knew you wouldn't. But why would you? The hours past bedtime are the only guilt-free time you get to yourself. In the still of the night, you can relax and unwind. Nothing is expected of you. The pressure is off. And you have the promise of a more productive tomorrow. Here's the thing - a bedtime alarm or better nighttime routine won't stop revenge bedtime procrastination. Revenge bedtime procrastination is a symptom of a bigger problem. Because you haven't been planning properly… You're putting too much on your to-do list You don't know what's important and what isn't You can't trust yourself to follow through on your plans You're trying to catch up on everything your past self put off You're not getting clean rest during the day When you start planning properly, revenge bedtime procrastination will stop. You'll be able to wake up at the time you want, without snoozing your alarm. Instead of watching Instagram stories, you'll do the things you truly want to with your time - turn a corner of your home into the most inspiring workspace for your business. And you'll finally read all of those books on your bedside table. To plan properly as a perfectionist, sign up for PGSD today at samlaurabrown.com/pgsd. S1 Ep 313Ep 313: Answering Your Questions About PGSD
EIn this episode I'm answering your questions about my group program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. Since the doors to PGSD are closing in 48 hours (11:59pm EDT on 16 January 2022), I want to make sure you have everything you need to decide whether PGSD is a good fit for you and whether joining this round is the best timing. PGSD is my group coaching for perfectionist business owners to get them out of their own way. If you're someone who has been doing a lot of procrasti-learning and you know a lot about what you need to do to build your business but you're just not able to get yourself to do it - that is where PGSD comes in. Tune in to learn more about PGSD, how it will help you get out of your own way and whether it's a good fit for you. The doors to PGSD close soon. You can sign up at samlaurabrown.com/pgsd. Questions Answered: I'm not sure if I'm a perfectionist but I can relate to what you talk about on the podcast. Does PGSD help me get clear about exactly what I want to do? I'm unsure about the direction I want to take and how to make it come together. Is PGSD a good fit for me if I'm not sure about my niche yet? Is PGSD just for coaches/other kinds of entrepreneurs or do you have members who are creatives/artists making money from their art? Is PGSD a good fit for me if the tasks that trip me up in my business are different from the examples you share on the podcast? How do I know PGSD won't just be more procrasti-learning? I have ideas to start a business, but haven't started yet. Will PGSD be a good fit for me? Can I pay for PGSD in another currency? How much time would you recommend dedicating to PGSD per week, if I was going to join this program? When teaching Power Planning, do you go over a framework that can be followed? Do you provide ones for us to 'try on' until we find what works best for us? What platform is the course hosted on? Do we have time to get to know you directly and/or others on the programme or is it mostly self study? On the coaching calls are the participants seen on video or do they interact just by chat box? If I attend a call, will I be on video? What is the likelihood of being selected to be coached 1-1 on the live coaching calls? Is this a program to help someone who is already a coach stop procrastinating or is this for someone who isn't a coach learn how to be a coach as well? Is this the right program to take if I want to be a coach? When is the next class after the one that is starting in January? How often do you open the doors of PGSD? I am interested in PGSD and power planning, but I don't run my own business or plan to work on starting one. What would you recommend? Do you have a short version or intensive version of PGSD? I'm not sure lifetime access is the right fit for me. I'm specifically interested in learning more about power planning and getting assistance/ more insight into it from a shorter course. Can you please share more information about the coaching process/experience? And the sorts of things people get coached on - is it specific to their business or moreso to their behaviors and habits? How much is it to join PGSD? What does lifetime access actually mean? Do we have access to one on one Q&A for help if needed beyond the group? I'm in another program - should I wait until it's over before I join PGSD? Ep 311: [PLANNING SERIES] How To Follow Your Plans When You Don't Feel Like It
EThere are courageous things you need to do to build your business that you might never feel excited about… like pitching yourself as a guest on one of your favourite podcasts or posting on Instagram when you've been getting is 17 likes or publishing your sales page when you're still working on believing that your product is worth the money. If you're only able to do things when you're in the mood to do them, your business won't get much further than it is now. But changing that is simple… There are three problems that make perfectionists get in their own way in their business: planning problems, productivity problems and persistence problems. So far, this series has shared how to solve your planning problems. I've taught you how to stop procrasti-planning, what the Power Planning process looks like from start to finish, how to plan your week when it's rife with uncertainty and the importance of the Three Month Commitment. In the final episode, I'm sharing how to solve your productivity and persistence problems so you have the full picture when it comes to getting out of your own way. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why planning properly is only the first step in getting out of your own way What you need to focus on once you know how to plan properly How the PGSD Process helps you get out of your own way helps you to get out of your own way Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 310: [PLANNING SERIES] The 3 Month Commitment + Why It Matters
EPower Planning will get you out of your own way in your business and have you doing the deep perfectionism work you need to do - all while you're doing more of what matters than ever before (in less time and with less overthinking). But it won't work for you if you give up on it prematurely. The habit of giving up too soon is one of the main reasons you're not where you want to be in your business. Most perfectionists want overnight, struggle-free, push-of-a-button success and we quit when we don't get it. We feel disheartened, discouraged and inadequate - when really, we just hadn't tried for long enough. Making the Three Month Commitment to Power Planning matters. You won't feel like it's working after a week or two - and that's the whole point… The closer we are to being in the growth mindset, the easier it is to get out of our own way in your business - no hustling, willpower or 'pushing through' required. The very act of Power Planning will coax you out of your perfectionism. And the fact that Power Planning won't 'work' instantly is what allows this to happen. The Three Month Commitment might just be the missing ingredient in your business. And I share how it works (and what not to do) in today's episode… In This Episode You'll Learn: How I discovered the power of the Three Month Commitment Why the Three Month Commitment makes it easier to get out of your own way What making the Three Month Commitment does NOT mean How not to be all-or-nothing about your Three Month Commitment Signs you're making progress with Power Planning during the first three months What to expect after three months of Power Planning Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

Ep 309: [PLANNING SERIES] How To Plan Amidst Uncertainty with Michelle Weeks
EMost perfectionists find it challenging to plan out their week when they don't know what will come up or how much energy they'll have. Whether you're working an exhausting day job, doing shift work or raising young children alongside building your business - there are certain things that can feel hard to plan around. Especially when no one has taught you how to plan properly… Some perfectionists plan their week as if everything will go smoothly, hoping for the best and then abandoning their plans when the inevitable happens. Others feel like they can't make plans at all and wing it day-by-day, praying they'll be able to find the motivation to do what matters most. But neither of these approaches work. That's why I interviewed Michelle Weeks on how to plan properly amidst uncertainty. Michelle is a PGSD Coach as well as being a life coach who helps mums resiliently and joyfully navigate the ups and downs of motherhood. Michelle and I are mothers of 6 month old babies (Freddie and Lydia). And we're both using Power Planning to get out of our own way and shit done in our businesses. Tune into this episode to discover all of the practical things we do to make Power Planning work for us when life is throwing constant curveballs. In This Episode You'll Learn: Power Planning versus to-do lists The importance of 'buffer time' and where to add it in your calendar Why Michelle has been committed to Power Planning for more than 2 years How Power Planning stops you from feeling bad about changing your plans mid-week When it makes sense to only Power Plan a couple of days at a time What Power Planning actually looks like in practice (it's not perfect) Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Michelle's Instagram: @michelle.c.weeks Michelle's Website: michelleweeks.com.au Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject

After listening to this episode, you'll know how to make the kind of plans that get you out of your own way - even when you're scared to put yourself out there. Ep 307: [PLANNING SERIES] Procrasti-Planning Versus Planning Properly
EPerfectionists get in their own way when they follow the same planning advice as everyone else. That's why I've recorded a 5-part planning series for the podcast that'll help you plan properly as a perfectionist. This planning series is for perfectionists who write and rewrite long to-do lists of business tasks they never start, fall behind because they underestimate how long things will take and have notebooks full of ideas they haven't done anything with. This episode (part 1 of the Planning Series) is all about the differences between procrasti-planning and planning properly as a perfectionist. This will help you understand where you've been going wrong with planning so you can do something about it. In This Episode You'll Learn: The two types of procrasti-planning and how to identify them 7 signs you're procrasti-planning Why perfectionists can't follow the same planning advice as everyone else The hidden reasons perfectionists procrasti-plan How to Power Plan and the elements of planning properly as a perfectionist Featured In The Episode: Join the waitlist for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject
