Ep 509: When Re-Doing Your Work Is Self-Sabotage + When It's Not (best of the podcast)
EOur perfectionism often makes us think that the work we've produced isn't good enough and that we need to re-do it. This usually turns into us doing our work over again and again. And when we get into this habit, it's very disheartening to even approach a task so we end up procrastinating on it and putting it off. In this episode, I'm talking about why I wanted to re-record two podcast episodes and how I came to a decision as to whether or not to let myself do it. If you find yourself re-doing your work so it's good enough or constantly making little edits to anything you create then this episode will help. Work with me privately to make more sales in an aligned, self-trusting way
EI'm excited to announce that you can work with me privately to make more sales in 2025 in an aligned, self-trusting way! Tune in to the episode to hear how we can work together, what Self-Trust Selling is (and isn't), and more. And to find out more about my three month 1:1 coaching program and apply today visit: samlaurabrown.com/coaching Are you only making sales sporadically, even though… ✔ You're posting pretty consistently, telling people about what you do and putting yourself out there a lot more than you used to be? ✔ You're smart, you genuinely want to help people and you've invested in sales and marketing programs to learn the right strategies? ✔ You get lots of great feedback from your clients and customers and you're pretty good at what you do (despite a healthy dose of imposter syndrome that tries to tell you otherwise). It's not your fault, it's your Perfectionism Handbrake. Your Perfectionism Handbrake isn't stopping you from taking action anymore. But it is stopping you from making as many sales as you could be. Your sales have plateaued and now you're ready for what's next. Self-Trust Selling is the answer. Self-Trust Selling combines the power of mindset work and sales strategy so that you can make more sales in 2025 in an aligned, self-trusting way. When you're Self-Trust Selling you will have your own unique Self-Trust Sales Strategy that's aligned with your Hidden Sales Strengths, your values and your business model so that selling feels easy and effortless - and brings in more sales than ever before. Self-Trust Selling is how I built my $2M coaching business without having to do anything that felt icky or that I didn't want to do. And how my clients have made more sales and broken through one revenue plateau after the next. After years of refining the Self-Trust Selling Process, the time has come to finally teach it. If you feel like the time you're spending working on your business isn't paying off, this is for you. And I'm not just going to tell you to 'trust yourself more' or give you the specific strategy that worked for me and my business. I'm going to personally guide and support you through a simple step-by-step process that will have you releasing your Perfectionism Handbrake and creating your very own Self-Trust Sales Strategy so you can get out of your own way with selling. You will get more sales notifications on your phone, see more money in your bank account and get thank you emails from happy customers with a work schedule that works for you. Ep 501: Doing Bad Work So You Can Get Good
EToday, I want to make a case for doing bad work. As a perfectionist, I know this is not something you want to do. You want to do only your best work and have it reflect what you are capable of. But if you aren't willing to do bad work, you will never get good. It's essential to understand this concept as a perfectionist entrepreneur. I explain the concept in this episode, including sharing some examples from my own experiences with my business. I also discuss what happens when you do bad work and how you can support yourself in learning this new approach. If you find you're having a hard time starting and finishing things, this episode is for you. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode501. Ep 500: Using Personal Rules To Avoid Burnout
EIn today's episode, I want to share with you a tool that I have used to help me avoid burning out. I haven't burned out since 2019 and this tool has been a massive help. Ep 499: Are You Expecting Too Much From Your Business?
EIn today's episode, I want to share a mistake I see a lot of perfectionists make in business (including myself). I've actually been coaching on this a lot inside my program, Perfectionists Getting Shit Done, and I want to bring it to your awareness, because if you are making this mistake then it's going to be hard to grow the business the way you want to. And it's going to be hard to feel as fulfilled and satisfied as you want to, as a human being. Ep 498: How I Grew My Podcast To 2 Million Downloads Without Following The Rules (best of the podcast)
EI hadn't thought to do an episode on how I built my podcast until my friend Alexander James (who I interviewed in Episode 340) started asking for the details. So I thought that I'd record an episode on how I built my podcast to 2 million downloads without following industry best practices. This episode is about podcasting AND it's about how you can be successful even when you're not doing things the same way as everyone else in your industry - no matter what you're working on. Ep 496: Doubling Your Revenue By Overcoming Perfectionism with Jenn Baswick (best of the podcast)
EIn today's episode, I interview PGSDer Jenn Baswick all about how overcoming perfectionism allowed her to double her revenue without burning out. Our most successful PGSDers are business owners who LOVE being productive and yet find themselves struggling to show up fully for their business due to perfectionism. And this was definitely the case for Jenn. Jenn is a registered dietitian and before she signed up for PGSD, she'd tried everything she could to build her business. She invested in business programs to help her setup her business correctly and market it the right way plus she tried every productivity tool from to-do lists to time blocking to Asana to Notion. And yet her business still wasn't growing in the way she knew it could… Even though Jenn 'knew' what she needed to do, she wasn't able to turn her knowledge into business growth - even though she was always busy working. In today's episode of The Perfectionism Project, you'll hear from Jenn and I discuss: ✔ The hidden reason why to-do lists, time blocking, asana and notion didn't work for Jenn ✔ All the ways overcoming perfectionism has made Jenn more productive ✔ When Jenn realised that overcoming perfectionism was a must for her business Tune in today and find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode496. Ep 495: From Paralysing Perfectionism To Signing A $2,500 Client with Arielle DeHaw
EIn this episode I'm interviewing my client Arielle DeHaw on overcoming perfectionism and committing to go all in in your business. Arielle coaches gifted coaches and service providers on how to get out of their own way, overcome self-doubt and imposter syndrome, and reach their potential. Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) helped her overcome perfectionism and learn how to get shit done, and once she had that, everything came together. We talk about what her journey looked like with getting out of her own way in her business, how Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) has helped her with that, and specific things she's learned in the program. We also discuss one of Arielle's biggest hesitations when she signed up for PGSD: What if I don't actually do this and don't make the most of PGSD? Because she had times before where she felt really hopeful about something she was going to invest in and then she didn't follow through because of perfectionism. And we talk about how she's been able to follow through with PGSD even though she was a person who didn't follow through with programs before, and how that has paid off for her. If this is a hesitation you can relate to, you'll find this episode helpful. Tune in today. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode495. EWelcome to Part 2 of my 5-part Momentum Series. In this series I'm going to teach you how to create momentum in your business in just six weeks without burning out. And in today's episode, we are going to be talking about how to stop treating your business like a hobby. I'm going to help you identify if this is you, and this is without any shame or judgement. And I'm speaking from experience when I share this. I used to treat my business like a hobby and that's all it ever was until I changed my mindset around it. So I really want to help you understand the importance of treating your business like a real business, including how that looks like and what to do so that you can start taking that approach. Ep 489: Some Hard Truths About Your Business Dreams + The Cost of Not Taking Action
EPerfectionists often struggle with taking action consistently and that has serious consequences in business. Consistent action is a critical part of any business's success and the cost of not doing that matters. This is such an important topic to understand, which is why I'm sharing about it in today's episode. I want to make sure that if this is a problem for you, that you become aware of it and how it's affecting you and your business so you can do something about it. Instead, this is about understanding the true cost of inaction and finding a solution that works for you in a way that is sustainable and empowering. You can become someone who is productive, who does what is needed, and who is confident about putting yourself out there. Ep 487: 4 Reasons You Won't Rebel Against Your Calendar When You're Power Planning
EOur perfectionist all-or-nothing mindset is what makes us rebel from our calendars. That is, unless you're planning properly as a perfectionist. I used to be the person who couldn't follow through with my calendar for more than a couple of days. Yet no matter how much time I spent planning everything out, I kept rebelling. It wasn't because I didn't have what it takes to be my own boss. It was simply because I was unknowingly making some pretty big planning mistakes that were making my perfectionist mindset working against me. In this episode I'm sharing 8 calendaring mistakes that are unknowingly causing you to rebel against your calendar. And I walk you through how Power Planning solves for each of them in the easiest and most practical way. Ep 484: How To Create The Emotional Capacity To Publish 'Imperfect' Work
EFor most perfectionists, it feels reckless or even harmful to publish 'imperfect' work unless a last minute deadline forces our hand. Whether it's a piece of content, a client deliverable, a sales page, a piece of art or just about anything else. We don't want to let go of it until it feels ready. And by ready, we mean perfect. But this comes at a great cost to our business and to ourselves. We're exhausted, we're dependent on external deadlines and pressure to keep us motivated and we don't get enough practice to become insanely good at what we do. We don't make sales, we don't help people and we don't get to show ourselves what we're capable of. All because the emotional piece is missing. I have built a successful business because I have created the emotional capacity to publish 'imperfect' work. I let my ideas meet reality before they feel perfect to my perfectionist brain. And I emotionally allow myself to have imperfect work out in the world. I wouldn't be at almost 500 episodes and 3 million downloads of this podcast if that wasn't the case. Creating the emotional capacity to publish 'imperfect' work is something that anyone can learn. I know because I wasn't this way when I first started my business. So today I'm going to help you develop this emotional capacity too. Tune in to learn the real reasons why you struggle to hit publish, the perfectionist thought errors that make perfectly good work feel incredibly flawed and the practical things you can do to create the emotional capacity to put your work out into the world. Ep 475: 8 Lessons From The Last 18 Months + Starting A New Chapter
EYesterday I recorded this raw and real business update. I'm sharing 8 lessons I've learned from the last 18 months in business. It has been TOUGH and it's also been exactly what I needed in so many ways (even though I wish it wasn't). In this episode I share so many things that I've wanted to share but have been too embarrassed and ashamed about. I've felt like I couldn't share my struggles the same way I did in the past because I should have 'figured it out' by now. This is definitely not a helpful thought nor is it true. And it's stopped me from creating my favourite content - honest behind the scenes updates about the work I'm doing on my business and my own perfectionism. So I'm returning to what I love doing and trusting that I don't need to be perfect in order to be perfectly helpful. The 1st of July is a new chapter for me and my business. So this episode recaps the lessons and wins from the last 18 months so I can powerfully move on. And so that you can too if you've been making some of the mistakes that I have or carrying similar shame. I'm so excited for those who have already decided to start a new chapter by joining our 12 Week Power Planning Challenge. (If you haven't joined us yet, you've only got a few hours left to sign up). Ep 468: If I Persist I Will Succeed
EThis episode is your invitation to believe in yourself and your business. Because if you don't believe in yourself and in your business, then you're not actually going to take the steps you need to take to have it be successful. And the irony of that is, we often want our business to be successful, so we can believe in it and believe in ourselves. But you really have to be willing to go first. Ep 467: Do You Have A Knowledge Problem, A Resource Problem Or An Implementation Problem?
EIn this episode I'm sharing how to identify whether it's a knowledge problem, a resource problem or an implementation problem that is stopping your business from growing. You'll learn how to identify which one you have and what to do to actually solve for it. And in case you genuinely have all of those problems - say you literally don't have enough knowledge, time, money, energy and courage to build your business the way you want - you'll learn how to prioritise these problems so you can find a solution for all of them. When it comes to business, we often invest a lot of time, money and energy into solving the wrong problem. We end up getting so frustrated and feeling so ashamed because we feel like there's something wrong with us that we aren't making more progress. If you can relate to that, listening to this episode is going to give you so much relief. Knowing what problem you have and how to actually solve it is going to help you make sure you invest your time, money and energy into what you need the most. I also share the mistakes and failures I've had along the way so that you can learn from my experience rather than learning the hard way. This episode is an important one for all perfectionist entrepreneurs as well as those who want to become entrepreneurs in the future. Ep 466: Getting Out Of Your Own Way So Your Children Can Do It Too

Tune into this episode to learn what it means to get out of your own way and why I'm so committed to being an example of what's possible for my children. Ep 465: How To Tell If You're Spinning Your Wheels Trying To Solve A False Problem
EThere are two reasons I'm sharing a coaching call excerpt with you from my program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done: Firstly, because if you're a perfectionist entrepreneur then you need to know about false problems. Our brains create problems to keep us busy and distracted. This way we can subconsciously avoid solving more uncomfortable problems in our business or we get to avoid doing uncomfortable work. In this call you'll hear me spot a false problem that my client was having and help her work through what's really going on for her in her business. The second reason I wanted to share this call is because it's such a great example of the power of being inside Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. We perfectionists love to be self-sufficient in our mindset work. We feel embarrassed for others to see our messy brains and feel like getting help from others is a sign that we aren't smart enough to do it on our own. But when we're completely self-sufficient, there are blindspots that never get uncovered because it's too uncomfortable for our brains to see them. Being able to get coached on one of our weekly live calls or listen to the 200+ coaching call replays on the PGSD Private Podcast means that you'll no longer be confused about why you aren't getting shit done, keep burning yourself out or are struggling to get to your goals. When you're inside the program you'll be able to finally see your blindspots, without feeling bad about them, and then solve for what's really going on. This is the secret to getting out of your own way in your business. A big thank you to the PGSDer I coached on this call for giving us permission to share it on the podcast.
