Ep 503: Being All-In On Selling Even When You're Tired (Part 2: Launch Debrief + Revenue Breakdown)

E

Launching has a way of bringing up perfectionism - so I'm sharing a behind the scenes look at the most recent PGSD launch and I'm holding nothing back. This is the second part in a two part series that will help normalise the highs and lows of launching (regardless of what kind of business you have). It gives you a look at the perfectionism that often comes up with selling and what I personally do to overcome that perfectionism and be showing up fully. In this episode I talk about some incredibly important concepts that are universal to all kinds of entrepreneurs, including being all-in on selling, how to keep going and showing up fully (even when you're tired and the results aren't where you want them to be). Tune in to listen to my assessment of this launch and my thinking process as I review it. Plus I share all of the numbers (like our sign up numbers, revenue and whether we hit our goal) and behind the scenes insights so you can get out of your own way. Because releasing your perfectionism handbrake is essential when it comes to building your business, whether you have a coaching business like me or not. I talk through the launch plan and strategy, the self-coaching I'm doing, my thoughts in real-time, and more! Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode503. Ep 501: Doing Bad Work So You Can Get Good

E

Today, I want to make a case for doing bad work. As a perfectionist, I know this is not something you want to do. You want to do only your best work and have it reflect what you are capable of. But if you aren't willing to do bad work, you will never get good. It's essential to understand this concept as a perfectionist entrepreneur. I explain the concept in this episode, including sharing some examples from my own experiences with my business. I also discuss what happens when you do bad work and how you can support yourself in learning this new approach. If you find you're having a hard time starting and finishing things, this episode is for you. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode501. Ep 499: Are You Expecting Too Much From Your Business?

E

In today's episode, I want to share a mistake I see a lot of perfectionists make in business (including myself). I've actually been coaching on this a lot inside my program, Perfectionists Getting Shit Done, and I want to bring it to your awareness, because if you are making this mistake then it's going to be hard to grow the business the way you want to. And it's going to be hard to feel as fulfilled and satisfied as you want to, as a human being. Tune in to hear me talk about this common mistake, so that you can begin addressing it and change your experience in your business. Ep 498: How I Grew My Podcast To 2 Million Downloads Without Following The Rules (best of the podcast)

E

I hadn't thought to do an episode on how I built my podcast until my friend Alexander James (who I interviewed in Episode 340) started asking for the details. So I thought that I'd record an episode on how I built my podcast to 2 million downloads without following industry best practices. This episode is about podcasting AND it's about how you can be successful even when you're not doing things the same way as everyone else in your industry - no matter what you're working on. Ep 496: Doubling Your Revenue By Overcoming Perfectionism with Jenn Baswick (best of the podcast)

E

In today's episode, I interview PGSDer Jenn Baswick all about how overcoming perfectionism allowed her to double her revenue without burning out. Our most successful PGSDers are business owners who LOVE being productive and yet find themselves struggling to show up fully for their business due to perfectionism. And this was definitely the case for Jenn. Jenn is a registered dietitian and before she signed up for PGSD, she'd tried everything she could to build her business. She invested in business programs to help her setup her business correctly and market it the right way plus she tried every productivity tool from to-do lists to time blocking to Asana to Notion. And yet her business still wasn't growing in the way she knew it could… Even though Jenn 'knew' what she needed to do, she wasn't able to turn her knowledge into business growth - even though she was always busy working. In today's episode of The Perfectionism Project, you'll hear from Jenn and I discuss: ✔ The hidden reason why to-do lists, time blocking, asana and notion didn't work for Jenn ✔ All the ways overcoming perfectionism has made Jenn more productive ✔ When Jenn realised that overcoming perfectionism was a must for her business Tune in today and find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode496. Ep 495: From Paralysing Perfectionism To Signing A $2,500 Client with Arielle DeHaw

E

In this episode I'm interviewing my client Arielle DeHaw on overcoming perfectionism and committing to go all in in your business. Arielle coaches gifted coaches and service providers on how to get out of their own way, overcome self-doubt and imposter syndrome, and reach their potential. Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) helped her overcome perfectionism and learn how to get shit done, and once she had that, everything came together. We talk about what her journey looked like with getting out of her own way in her business, how Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) has helped her with that, and specific things she's learned in the program. We also discuss one of Arielle's biggest hesitations when she signed up for PGSD: What if I don't actually do this and don't make the most of PGSD? Because she had times before where she felt really hopeful about something she was going to invest in and then she didn't follow through because of perfectionism. And we talk about how she's been able to follow through with PGSD even though she was a person who didn't follow through with programs before, and how that has paid off for her. If this is a hesitation you can relate to, you'll find this episode helpful. Tune in today. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode495. Ep 489: Some Hard Truths About Your Business Dreams + The Cost of Not Taking Action

E

Perfectionists often struggle with taking action consistently and that has serious consequences in business. Consistent action is a critical part of any business's success and the cost of not doing that matters. This is such an important topic to understand, which is why I'm sharing about it in today's episode. I want to make sure that if this is a problem for you, that you become aware of it and how it's affecting you and your business so you can do something about it. I also want you to feel encouraged and supported as you listen in. This isn't about feeling ashamed or beating yourself up because you have this problem. Instead, this is about understanding the true cost of inaction and finding a solution that works for you in a way that is sustainable and empowering. You can become someone who is productive, who does what is needed, and who is confident about putting yourself out there. Ep 487: 4 Reasons You Won't Rebel Against Your Calendar When You're Power Planning

E

Our perfectionist all-or-nothing mindset is what makes us rebel from our calendars. That is, unless you're planning properly as a perfectionist. I used to be the person who couldn't follow through with my calendar for more than a couple of days. Yet no matter how much time I spent planning everything out, I kept rebelling. It wasn't because I didn't have what it takes to be my own boss. It was simply because I was unknowingly making some pretty big planning mistakes that were making my perfectionist mindset working against me. In this episode I'm sharing 8 calendaring mistakes that are unknowingly causing you to rebel against your calendar. And I walk you through how Power Planning solves for each of them in the easiest and most practical way. Ep 484: How To Create The Emotional Capacity To Publish 'Imperfect' Work

E

For most perfectionists, it feels reckless or even harmful to publish 'imperfect' work unless a last minute deadline forces our hand. Whether it's a piece of content, a client deliverable, a sales page, a piece of art or just about anything else. We don't want to let go of it until it feels ready. And by ready, we mean perfect. But this comes at a great cost to our business and to ourselves. We're exhausted, we're dependent on external deadlines and pressure to keep us motivated and we don't get enough practice to become insanely good at what we do. We don't make sales, we don't help people and we don't get to show ourselves what we're capable of. All because the emotional piece is missing. I have built a successful business because I have created the emotional capacity to publish 'imperfect' work. I let my ideas meet reality before they feel perfect to my perfectionist brain. And I emotionally allow myself to have imperfect work out in the world. I wouldn't be at almost 500 episodes and 3 million downloads of this podcast if that wasn't the case. Creating the emotional capacity to publish 'imperfect' work is something that anyone can learn. I know because I wasn't this way when I first started my business. So today I'm going to help you develop this emotional capacity too. Ep 475: 8 Lessons From The Last 18 Months + Starting A New Chapter

E

Yesterday I recorded this raw and real business update. I'm sharing 8 lessons I've learned from the last 18 months in business. It has been TOUGH and it's also been exactly what I needed in so many ways (even though I wish it wasn't). In this episode I share so many things that I've wanted to share but have been too embarrassed and ashamed about. I've felt like I couldn't share my struggles the same way I did in the past because I should have 'figured it out' by now. This is definitely not a helpful thought nor is it true. And it's stopped me from creating my favourite content - honest behind the scenes updates about the work I'm doing on my business and my own perfectionism. So I'm returning to what I love doing and trusting that I don't need to be perfect in order to be perfectly helpful. The 1st of July is a new chapter for me and my business. So this episode recaps the lessons and wins from the last 18 months so I can powerfully move on. And so that you can too if you've been making some of the mistakes that I have or carrying similar shame. I'm so excited for those who have already decided to start a new chapter by joining our 12 Week Power Planning Challenge. (If you haven't joined us yet, you've only got a few hours left to sign up). I love the energy of a fresh start without dismissing all of the progress I've made and wisdom I've gained. I'm so much more skilled and mature as a business owner than I ever have been. Ep 467: Do You Have A Knowledge Problem, A Resource Problem Or An Implementation Problem?

E

In this episode I'm sharing how to identify whether it's a knowledge problem, a resource problem or an implementation problem that is stopping your business from growing. You'll learn how to identify which one you have and what to do to actually solve for it. And in case you genuinely have all of those problems - say you literally don't have enough knowledge, time, money, energy and courage to build your business the way you want - you'll learn how to prioritise these problems so you can find a solution for all of them. When it comes to business, we often invest a lot of time, money and energy into solving the wrong problem. We end up getting so frustrated and feeling so ashamed because we feel like there's something wrong with us that we aren't making more progress. If you can relate to that, listening to this episode is going to give you so much relief. Knowing what problem you have and how to actually solve it is going to help you make sure you invest your time, money and energy into what you need the most. I also share the mistakes and failures I've had along the way so that you can learn from my experience rather than learning the hard way. Ep 466: Getting Out Of Your Own Way So Your Children Can Do It Too

E

Getting out of your own way in your business will have a profound impact on your children. This is true whether you have young children like me or you have older children or your children haven't even been born yet. Tune into this episode to learn what it means to get out of your own way and why I'm so committed to being an example of what's possible for my children. Ep 465: How To Tell If You're Spinning Your Wheels Trying To Solve A False Problem

E

There are two reasons I'm sharing a coaching call excerpt with you from my program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done: Firstly, because if you're a perfectionist entrepreneur then you need to know about false problems. Our brains create problems to keep us busy and distracted. This way we can subconsciously avoid solving more uncomfortable problems in our business or we get to avoid doing uncomfortable work. In this call you'll hear me spot a false problem that my client was having and help her work through what's really going on for her in her business. The second reason I wanted to share this call is because it's such a great example of the power of being inside Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. We perfectionists love to be self-sufficient in our mindset work. We feel embarrassed for others to see our messy brains and feel like getting help from others is a sign that we aren't smart enough to do it on our own. But when we're completely self-sufficient, there are blindspots that never get uncovered because it's too uncomfortable for our brains to see them. Being able to get coached on one of our weekly live calls or listen to the 200+ coaching call replays on the PGSD Private Podcast means that you'll no longer be confused about why you aren't getting shit done, keep burning yourself out or are struggling to get to your goals. When you're inside the program you'll be able to finally see your blindspots, without feeling bad about them, and then solve for what's really going on. This is the secret to getting out of your own way in your business. A big thank you to the PGSDer I coached on this call for giving us permission to share it on the podcast. Ep 464: 12 Thoughts That Will Make Content Creation Easy For Your Perfectionist Brain

E

In this episode, I'm sharing 12 thoughts that helped me create content in a really easy, enjoyable, sustainable way that has proven to be really effective for my perfectionist brain. I wanted to record this in response to a PGSDer who posted about starting a podcast inside my group coaching program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD). These thoughts will help you create content simply and easily, and they can also be applied to other areas of your business to empower you to show up fully. Because yes, there might be some technical things that you need to set up when it comes to content creation. But trusting yourself - or what we call self-trust - is the most important ingredient so your perfectionist brain can create high-quality content easily. I've made over $2 million in my business, most of which has come from this podcast, and the times I've made the most money and the most impact with people have been when I'm in a high level of self-trust. Tune in and find out why this is the case for perfectionists, and discover the 12 thoughts that will make content creation easy and effective. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode464. In This Episode You'll Learn: What self-trust is, and why it's the most important thing when it comes to high-value content creation The reason how perfectionists think can make content creation feel hard What happens when perfectionists create content with low self-trust The 12 thoughts that help perfectionists create content easily and sustainably Featured In The Episode: Free training: How To Plan Properly As A Perfectionist with Power Planning Sign up for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (PGSD) - samlaurabrown.com/pgsd Take The Perfectionism Quiz: samlaurabrown.com/quiz Sign up for daily Perfectionist Power-Ups - samlaurabrown.com/power Follow me on Instagram @perfectionismproject Work With Me: My coaching program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) teaches you how to plan properly as a perfectionist so you can get out of your own way in your business. E

In today's episode, I want to talk to you about clear financial goals for your business and having lifestyle parameters around them. I've been having conversations with people about this topic - and we discuss this a lot in my program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done - so I hope you find this episode helpful. When you listen to the end, you'll learn about how a clear financial goal and lifestyle parameters help you go all in on your business without sacrificing work-life balance. Ep 462: Behind The Scenes Of A $250k Launch (best of the podcast)

E

In this episode I'm sharing a detailed behind the scenes look over a $250k launch, because this is such a great example of the advanced work that you can do on releasing your perfectionism handbrake. This will help normalise the ups and downs of launching (regardless of what kind of business you have) and demonstrate the next-level mindset work perfectionists need to do once you're showing up and putting yourself out there. I talk through the launch plan and strategy, advanced Power Planning, advanced troubleshooting and more! In PGSD Advanced, you're going to be working closely with me and a group of other like-minded perfectionist entrepreneurs to get out of your own way in a whole new way. I'm so excited because I haven't actually taught what I do behind the scenes for my mindset work before. I've been demonstrating it through podcast episodes like this launch debrief episode that so many people love, but I haven't actually had a way for you to do that work with me. We have already done early enrollment for the PGSD Advanced Coaching Group and spots have started filling, but we will announce the official enrollment dates soon. Ep 460: Using Power Planning To Get Into Creative Flow with Rachel Brown (best of the podcast)

E

In this episode I'm talking to one of our PGSDers, Rachel, all about using Power Planning to get into creative flow. Rachel is an artist that enjoys capturing people and characters in her illustrations and loves to share her creative journey with others. She joined PGSD because she had spent years dreaming of pursuing art full time but was too afraid to put her work in front of potential customers and start selling. With the help of PGSD and Power Planning, Rachel finally opened her online art store and made her first sales – all while working fewer hours than she had before. Ep 459: Creating The Emotional Capacity To Get Shit Done

E

Two of my clients inside my program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done (aka PGSD) have given me permission to share this coaching call excerpt with you. In this call we are talking about emotional capacity and how to expand your emotional capacity so that you can do the things you need to do to build your business. If you resist and avoid doing things that are uncomfortable, this is for you. When it comes to taking action we perfectionists get really frustrated when we have all of the knowledge but we aren't able to do the things we need to do. Why aren't we able to follow through? Because there is a difference between your knowledge and what you're physically capable of doing (e.g. typing words on a computer) and your ability to experience the uncomfortable emotions that are required to get shit done. Inside PGSD we support you fully with getting out of your own way and this call is a great example of some of the mindset and emotional work required to become someone who is taking consistent action towards their business goals without burning out. If you find this episode helpful I want to invite you inside my program Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. We have just opened enrollment at the time of this episode being released and I will be teaching a live bonus workshop to those inside PGSD called Your First Power Hour to help you start Power Planning. Ep 458: How I Transitioned From Full-Time Work To Full-Time Entrepreneurship (best of the podcast)

E

This episode was a long-time in the making. In 2019 I released an episode just after I'd officially gone full-time in my business sharing all of the nitty gritty details - the ups and downs, courage and self-sabotage, successes and setbacks. I'm sharing it again on the podcast, 5 years after it was initially released, in case you're in the thick of this journey and you're looking for something inspiring (and practical) to help you keep going. When my goal was going full-time in my business, I was constantly searching for resources and advice to help me figure out how to transition from full-time work to full-time entrepreneurship. I didn't have the confidence to take a blind leap of faith so I scoured the internet for wisdom on how to navigate it all. And to be honest, what I found was a little lacking! So I hope that by sharing the details of my experience I'm able to help you figure out when to take your own leap and how to do it. Ep 455: How To Create Safe Visibility In 3 Simple Steps

E

You have probably heard business advice around just doing the things you know you need to do, including putting yourself out there and telling people about your business (e.g. social media, another visible channel). And if you're a perfectionist, it's likely that you haven't been able to do it. This is something I've helped perfectionist entrepreneurs with, and I've also had to work on it a lot for myself when starting my business. In fact, I was so scared of putting myself out there that it took three years for me to make my first dollar in my business and six years to get to six figures! If this struggle is something you can relate to, this episode is going to be a relief. Because I want you to know that there isn't anything wrong with you - it's just one of the ways perfectionism can stop your business from growing. I share more about why that is + the three practical steps that you can follow to create safe visibility for yourself in your business. You can use those steps today to be able to show up and start putting yourself out there without freaking your brain out, or burning yourself out either. Ep 454: Releasing The Pressure To Do Power Planning Perfectly

E

Coaching is so valuable for perfectionists because we often don't see the perfectionist thinking that makes us give up right when we're about to see results. When we think we're not doing good enough or we're tempted to quit, coaching helps you identify what's going on so you can get out of your own way. To see how powerful coaching can be for perfectionists, I'm sharing a snippet of a PGSD coaching call where I coached PGSDer Arielle on how to use Power Planning as a tool to support yourself to get things done (regardless of what comes up during the week). I wanted to share this with you, because it might be the case that you hear about Power Planning and feel pressure to do it perfectly. You might be thinking "I want to try Power Planning, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it right." And that leads to feeling like Power Planning will be hard to do and using it against yourself. That struggle is exactly what I coach Arielle on. On this call, coaching helps her drop the mental drama and exhaustion around planning perfectly and use Power Planning to intentionally plan in a way that works best for her. Every week inside Perfectionists Getting Shit Done there is a group coaching call where you can watch other PGSDers get in-depth coaching on the same planning, productivity and persistence problems that have been making you get in your own way in your business. And you'll have the opportunity to get coached too! The weekly group coaching calls give you the opportunity to get the support you need to get out of your own way so you don't stay stuck or fall off the wagon.
