#220 - Lookla

220 - Lookla Watching television late at night I kept seeing this Jaguar car commercial. Every time I saw it, I found myself fascinated by the mysterious, beautiful song included in it. I was entranced. I used Siri to ask "What song is this?" It turns out the song was called "The King is Dead." I was intrigued. The song was written, performed and recorded by the independent musical duo Lookla, based in London. Consisting of Nikonn and Chloe Ann who are originally from Greece, their music is enchanting and unique. They agreed to give an interview, the very first in their career! They kindly offered to debut their third single "Now or Never" for the listeners of The Paul Leslie Hour podcast version. Don't turn that dial, Lookla is up next! #186 - Bill Zehme

Bill Zehme is a best-selling author of several books including The Way You Wear Your Hat: Frank Sinatra and the Lost Art of Livin'. A man with many claims, all of them to fame. He's the "King of the First Sentence" and the magazine writer who gets to know the unknowable. Zehme is a man who once (or twice) said "I do not believe in celebrity." Yet somehow the biggest icons of the 20th Century invited him to ask questions in order to write intimate profiles. All of those icons are recognizable by a single name. Carson. Hefner. Of course we couldn't leave out the "Sultan of Swoon": Sinatra. This is the inaugural conversation with Bill Zehme recorded back in 2015, as the grand finale of months and months of Frank Sinatra-centric radio broadcasting. It was the Centenary year of Frank Sinatra: 100 years since the great singer's birth. This was a beautiful closing to the series. Bill Zehme went deeper than the music and the films and explored the man himself. The return of Bill Zehme on 'The Paul' airwaves is much anticipated, but revisiting this interview is a listening delight. #184 - Tom Dreesen

Stand-up Comedian Tom Dreesen is a man who has found the recipe for good health and happiness. His prescription is that you do it 10 times a day. He wants you to laugh. Like the song popularized by his friend the late Frank Sinatra, Tom Dreesen “took a few blows,” but he definitely “lived a life that’s full.” In this archival interview Dreesen shares his story with us, and it is an inspiring one. Sinatra called himself “a saloon singer” and his friend Tom Dreesen “a saloon comedian.” Dreesen has made over 500 national television appearances, including many on The Late Show with David Letterman. A friend of Dave’s, Tom Dreesen has even hosted the show in Dave’s absence. A stand-up comedian, emcee, motivational speaker, and sometimes actor, he still considers himself a neighborhood guy. It's a great interview with your very own Tom Dreesen right here on The Paul Leslie Hour.
