Their #1 hit songs including "Chasing that Neon Rainbow" and the pair's most successful song "Chattahoochee" helped propel Jackson as a country music superstar. The greatest singers of all time from Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, Reba McEntire and Crystal Gayle have all chosen to record his one of a kind songs. 286 - Bob DiPiero Singer-songwriter, performing and recording artist Bob DiPiero came highly recommended. Speaking to DiPiero you can see why! Down to earth, funny and able to express himself, this interview was a delight. He had his first hit song in 1983 and hasn't slowed down. A BMI Icon, he's had many hits and his songs have been recorded by many country artists: George Strait, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Montgomery Gentry, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Steve Wariner, Trisha Yearwood, and others. In other genres, Bob Seger, Little Feat, Etta James and Neil Diamond. Bob DiPiero is an inductee of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and his songs have made a last cultural impact. At the end of the day, Bob DiPiero still manages to have an approachable, jovial personality. You'll love him. He's right here...on The Paul Leslie Hour. 285 - Carrie Morey Carrie Morey wanted to share the biscuits her mother Callie made with the masses and turned it into a very successful business. With a location in Charleston, South Carolina, in Atlanta, Georgia and now Charlotte, North Carolina, her biscuits are also available at retailers. As usual, there are a lot of details in-between and this is what Carrie understands all too well. Listen to this interview recorded on the noisy street of Charleston, South Carolina and you'll probably consider Carrie Morey to be biscuit baking royalty. It has been called "the Friendliest Cigar Lounge in Atlanta." It's one of the most laid back places in the city and it's hard to go there and not have a great conversation with someone. Whether you are a cigar aficionado or not, you're going to love meeting J. Nadimi. His attitude is what makes his business what it is. #281 - Seth Sikes

281 - Seth Sikes Seth Sikes is bringing his show entitled "The Songs That Got Away" to Feinstein's/54 Below in New York City at 7:00 PM on August 14, 2019. Sikes is sensational and will be singing many of the classic songs popularized by Judy Garland as well as many of the songs she would have possibly recorded, but never get a chance to. The young and talented Sikes will be backed by a seven-piece band making for a night you will never forget. I was informed about the concert by Scott Gorenstein, who is my primary source for all news. Seth Sikes checks in only on The Paul Leslie Hour and I even conned him into singing a little. Listen to Seth Sikes share his story right here and then be among one of the fortunate members of the audience at Feinstein's/54 Below. #280 - Johnny Clegg

280 - Johnny Clegg Johnny Clegg has passed away, I think he was perhaps South Africa’s most famed musician - an internationally known singer-songwriter, dancer, recording artist anthropologist, activist. Born on June 7, 1953, he died the other day July 16, 2019 at 66 years of age. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. One of the few performing and recording artists to defy segregation laws during the 1970s and 1980s in South Africa. Clegg performed with his bands Juluka and Savuka. He combined his music with the studies of anthropology and frequently mixed English and Zulu lyrics in the same song. Artists as diverse as Joan Baez and Jimmy Buffett covered his material. I was supposed to interview Johnny Clegg in person when he was on tour and had an Atlanta date. Something came up and the interview was conducted by telephone. Clegg had just released an album entitled “Best Live & Unplugged at the Baxter Theatre Cape Town.” It’s a short, but information filled interview. Listen to this interview as we remember this great artist, Johnny Clegg. Support The Paul Leslie Hour by contributing to their tip jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/the-paul-leslie-hour

#277 - Lee Adams

277 - Lee Adams Lee Adams has always been a writer, but it was the Cole Porter musical “Kiss Me Kate” that greatly intrigued the young Lee and soon he was writing lyrics. Meeting composer Charles Strouse led him to a partnership and the two went on to write some of the most enduring songs in theatre. Lee Adams went on to receive Tony awards for “Bye Bye Birdie” in 1961 and “Applause” in 1970. He has written the lyrics for the shows “All American,” “Golden Boy,” “It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman,” “Bring Back Birdie” (the sequel to “Bye Bye Birdie”) and “A Broadway Musical,” all collaborations with composer Charles Strouse. #273 - Winston Groom

273 - Winston Groom Today marks the 25th anniversary of the movie Forrest Gump. It was July 5, 1994 that Forrest Gump debuted in theaters nationwide. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, the movie was based on the 1986 novel Forrest Gump by Winston Groom. To this day Forrest is an iconic figure of our popular culture and one of the most beloved characters of all time. I invite you into the home of Winston Groom who was kind enough to have me on a very hot April day in Coastal Alabama. Forrest and Winston have a lot in common. Both of them are natural storytellers. Neither has much pretension. Both can say without a doubt "at least I didn't lead no humdrum life." 272- Jacquie Wansley of Coca-Cola Watching the series finale of the television show "Mad Men" really got me thinking about the history, traditions, marketing, advertising and image of Coca-Cola, undoubtedly the world's most popular branded beverage. She is now the Public Affairs and Communications Manager of Global Licensing and Retail at The Coca-Cola Company.
