Ken Williams is a major influence and innovator in the music industry. He is a prolific songwriter, the publisher of more than 300 songs. Some of the other hats Ken Williams has worn include singer and record producer. Songs he wrote would include the signature hit song of The Main Ingredient: "Everybody Plays the Fool (Sometime)," which was also recorded by Aaron Neville. "Love, Love, Love" by Donny Hathaway, "Sweet Music, Soft Lights and You" recorded by Tom Jones and R. Bailey as well as Millie Jackson and Isaac Hayes. More recently, Kanye West and Alicia Keys won a Grammy for Best R&B Song for "You Don't Know My Name." The music for the songs was written by Ken Williams, originally from a song he wrote recorded by the Main Ingredient entitled "Let Me Prove My Love to You." Woody Allen is an international icon: a film director, writer, actor, comedian and playwright. Most known for his motion pictures, including such classic films as Annie Hall, Sleeper and Manhattan, this interview focuses on his love of music. Woody Allen is one of the most celebrated personalities in film, but many have noted the the incredible use of music in his films. The soundtracks have all been memorable. This stems from his lifelong love of music. He is a clarinet player and in this interview we talk about his passion for the authentic, traditional jazz of New Orleans. Allen performs with the Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band many Monday evenings at the Café Carlyle at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan on 35 East 76th Street, New York. This interview was recorded back in 2008. The original recording had a very poor sound quality. Audio restoration was completed greatly improving the clarity. Additional audio engineering and mastering courtesy of Kevin Hooper has resulted in an interview that is quite listenable. Her father Thom Tollerson owns the historical music venue 106 West in Winder, Georgia and was in a folk trio. Her pop and blues acoustic stylings were long a solo performance, but in 2005 she found herself fronting her band, known as “The Big Fantastic.” In this interview we get a look into her musical soul and it remains an artifact of another time in her career. Ralph MacDonald was a percussionist, producer, songwriter, performer and Grammy-award winner who lived from 1944-2011. He had roots in the Caribbean, but was born in New York. His songs were recorded by artists like Bill Withers, Grover Washington Jr, Roberta Flack, Harry Belafonte, Jimmy Buffett and others. The son of Calypsonian MacBeth the Great, Ralph MacDonald was a member of Harry Belafonte's band at the age of 17. For over 20 years he was the percussionist in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. His music included elements of many styles of music from Jazz, African Rhythms, Calypso, Samba and others. This interview with Ralph MacDonald was taped using a cassette recorder in 2006 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Gene Wilder was born June 11, 1933. He was an iconic actor and director, but also a writer and painter. He passed away on August 29, 2016 and today would have been his birthday. Known for such films as Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, in his later years he wrote several books starting with the autobiographical Kiss Me Like a Stranger. Jerry Jeff Walker is a legend in country and folk music and is known as a songwriter and also interpreter of other artists' songs. He is well known as the writer of the song "Mr. Bojangles." Cesária Évora was an internationally known singer and recording artist from Cape Verde, an island country off the coast of West Africa. She was known as "the Queen of Morna," morna being the national music of Cape Verde and was also called "the Barefoot Diva" for performing without shoes. Cesária Évora left the world on December 17, 2011, but her music is still an influence on many artists around the world.I had the honor of interviewing Cesária Évora in approximately 2009. It was broadcast on the radio and was never heard again. It's my hope this will resonate with you today.
