Zawe Ashton has been starring in more high-profile projects over the last few years, with her biggest to date next year in the form of "The Marvels." For now, she's playing Julia Thistlewaite in the new period drama "Mr. Malcolm's List," co-starring Freida Pinto, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Park & Theo James. "Our Flag Means Death" has been one of the breakout new comedy shows of 2022. "Good Luck To You, Leo Grande" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and was later picked up by Searchlight Pictures, who released it this weekend on Hulu. The film stars Emma Thompson in one of her best roles to date as Nancy, a middle-aged retired woman looking for good sex at this point in her life, and Daryl McCormack in a breakout turn as her hired young sex-worker, Leo Grande. "On The Count Of Three" had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where a lot of people were wondering who would be daring enough to pick up the film, which dealt with a highly sensitive subject matter, blending dark comedy with the heartwarming drama between two best friends who make a pact to kill themselves on the same day. Screenwriters Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch had a difficult tight rope to walk when communicating the themes of their story and the humanity of their characters without rubbing audiences the wrong way. The overall positive critical reception to the film suggests they struck the balance just right. "Pleasure" premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, and within the opening moments, everyone who was watching it knew it was going to be a tough sell. An uncompromising look at the porn industry with many graphic sex scenes, it is a testament to writer and director Ninja Thyberg that the movie works as well as it does. "Pachinko" premiered on Apple TV+ on March 25th and has gone on to become one of the most acclaimed series of 2022, resulting in a renewal for a second season which will come in 2023. The series is based on a novel of the same name by author and journalist Min Jin Lee. Soo Hugh created the series, with all episodes directed either by Kogonada ("After Yang") or Justin Chon ("Blue Bayou"). It tells the generational story of a Korean family who immigrates to Japan from various perspectives in different timelines and languages.
