Interview With "Mr. Malcolm's List" Star, Zawe Ashton

Zawe Ashton has been starring in more high-profile projects over the last few years, with her biggest to date next year in the form of "The Marvels." For now, she's playing Julia Thistlewaite in the new period drama "Mr. Malcolm's List," co-starring Freida Pinto, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Park & Theo James. The film's diverse cast is unique for a period costume drama, and the end result is a funny, dramatic and delightful film that stands as one of the best in its genre, and Zawe is a huge reason for that. She was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about her work on the film, which you can listen to below. Be sure to please check out the film, which is playing this weekend in theaters from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... "Elvis"

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Eve O'Dea, Dan Bayer & Will Mavity. The film is your typical musical biopic but with the glamour, style, and bombastic filmmaking from Luhrmann with a breakout performance from Butler and a polarizing performance from Hanks. Interview With "Good Luck To You, Leo Grande" Screenwriter Katy Brand

"Good Luck To You, Leo Grande" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and was later picked up by Searchlight Pictures, who released it this weekend on Hulu. The film stars Emma Thompson in one of her best roles to date as Nancy, a middle-aged retired woman looking for good sex at this point in her life, and Daryl McCormack in a breakout turn as her hired young sex-worker, Leo Grande. Both of them deliver terrific performances and are aided by the thoughtful writing from screenwriter Katy Brand. The sex-positive story carefully outlines both characters with a high level of detail, providing an insightful analysis of sex and the relationship the two share with one another. Interview With "The Phantom Of The Open" Director Craig Roberts & Screenwriter Simon Farnaby

"The Phantom Of The Open" tells the unlikely true story of Maurice Flitcroft, a British golfer who, with no prior experience, managed to sneak his way into the pros and received the worst score ever recorded at the Open Championship. His determination to keep on playing and improve made him an inspiring figure for many to this day. Director Craig Roberts ("Tolkien") and screenwriter Simon Farnaby ("Paddington 2") came together to tell his story, and they do it with precision, liveliness, and delight. Both of them were kind enough to spend time talking about how they came across the project, working with Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins, what they hope audiences will take away from Maurice's story, and more. Alex Garland's psychological horror film, "Men," has been polarizing audiences since its release this past weekend from A24. Interview With "On The Count Of Three" Screenwriters, Ari Katcher & Ryan Welch

"On The Count Of Three" had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where a lot of people were wondering who would be daring enough to pick up the film, which dealt with a highly sensitive subject matter, blending dark comedy with the heartwarming drama between two best friends who make a pact to kill themselves on the same day. Screenwriters Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch had a difficult tight rope to walk when communicating the themes of their story and the humanity of their characters without rubbing audiences the wrong way. The overall positive critical reception to the film suggests they struck the balance just right. Interview With "Pleasure" Director/Writer, Ninja Thyberg

"Pleasure" premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, and within the opening moments, everyone who was watching it knew it was going to be a tough sell. An uncompromising look at the porn industry with many graphic sex scenes, it is a testament to writer and director Ninja Thyberg that the movie works as well as it does. With no judgment being placed on its protagonist (played brilliantly and fearlessly by Sofia Kappel), the film is a psychological character study that showcases both the good and ugly side of a business many have pre-conceived ill notions of. "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness"

For our main podcast review this week, I am joined by Nicole Ackman, Lauren LaMagna & Amy Smith. Today, we're discussing the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness," starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg & Rachel McAdams. Director Sam Raimi returns to Marvel after helming the original "Spider-Man" trilogy, and he brings his distinct filmmaking style and love of the horror genre to inject new life into the world's biggest franchise. Is it enough to overcome the well-established style that Kevin Feige has had in place for over a decade? What did we think of the story, the writing, the performances, and the visual effects? We discuss all of these points and more in our review below. For those who want to hear us discuss spoilers, we save that for its own section at the end. Thank you, and enjoy!
