"Poor Things" had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion and received some of the best reviews for a Yorgos Lanthimos film. "Air" had its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, where it received solid reviews for its writing, ensemble cast, and Affleck's smooth direction, making the true story about the development of a sports shoe entertaining. The film has earned three Critics Choice Nominations for Best Ensemble, Editing for Academy Award William Goldenberg (who won an Oscar for editing Ben Affleck's Best Picture-winning "Argo"), and Original Screenplay for Alex Convery. "Killers Of The Flower Moon" had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where its leading star, Lily Gladstone, received universal praise for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart. "The Holdovers" had its world premiere at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival, where it received universal acclaim, with many claiming it to be Alexander Payne's best film since "Sideways." The film reunites him with that 2004 film's star Paul Giamatti in a role that has earned him Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor, while his co-star Da'Vine Joy Randolph has received the same nominations with both winning prizes from the National Board Of Review. The film also introduces the world to Dominic Sessa in his first film role, for which he's won a few breakout prizes this awards season and is nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. After wowing audiences with her feature directorial debut "The Edge Of Seventeen" in 2016, writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig turned her eye toward Judy Blume's influential coming-of-age book and adapted it into the critically beloved "Are You There God? "Migration" is the latest animated film from Illumination, the animation studio responsible for the "Despicable Me" films, "Sing," "The Secret Life Of Pets," and most recently, "The Super Mario Bros. "The Peasants" had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival after many years of hard work from directors DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, who had a massive task in front of them to live up to expectations following the Oscar-nominated success of "Loving Vincent." Told with the same meticulous hand-painted techniques as that film, this adaptation of Władysław Reymont's Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name is another huge milestone in the world of animation. The film's composer, Łukasz "L.U.C." One of the most acclaimed animated films of 2023, "Suzume" is the latest film from master Japanese animator, filmmaker, author, and manga artist Makoto Shinkai. On one of his journeys to Los Angeles, he was kind enough to sit down with us and discuss his newest film, which tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who teams up with a stranger to prevent a series of disasters across Japan by sealing supernatural portals. "The Promised Land" (or "Bastarden" in Denmark) had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion and received just as strong reviews as director Nikolaj Arcel and star Mads Mikkelsen's previous collaboration on the Oscar-nominated 2012 film "A Royal Affair." The film has now won Best Actor for Mads Mikkelsen at the European Film Awards and two other prizes for its cinematography and costume design. It's being released in the U.S. by Magnolia Pictures and is the Danish entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
