"Cassandro" had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for Gael García Bernal's lead performance. Academy Award-winning documentarian director Roger Ross Williams ("Life Animated") made his narrative feature debut with this film and also received warm notices for his direction of an openly gay wrestler in the world of Lucha Libre wrestling. "Flora And Son" had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its breakout performance by Eve Hewson, the songwriting, and for giving the expected but welcome warm feelings a John Carney film can provide. The film recently screened again at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its limited theatrical release and global launch on Apple TV+. Shot on a small budget with very few resources, the movie may not have been the official feature directorial debut for Scorsese, but it would be the film that would put him on the map and lay the foundation for much of the greatness that would come after for both him and De Niro. Also starring Harvey Keitel in one of his best roles, David Proval, Amy Robinson, Victor Argo, Richard Romanus & David Carradine, the film is very much a snapshot of 1970s style filmmaking as much as it is a personal look at small-time crime in the streets of Little Italy New York from Scorsese's perspective. "20 Days In Mariupol" had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for World Cinema Documentary. The film follows an AP team of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol and struggling to continue documenting the atrocities of the Russian invasion. Director and writer Mstyslav Chernov was kind enough to talk with us about his work on the film as it draws on his daily news dispatches and personal harrowing footage of his own country at war. "Oppenheimer" finally releases in various formats, including IMAX 70mm, at select locations this weekend. The latest film from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan marks the second time he's collaborated with Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson ("Black Panther") following their work on "Tenet." With a three-hour running time and faced with mixing the epic with the intimate to tell a story from J. Robert Oppenheimer's point of view, the score is a grand, immersive, sonic experience that may stand as the composer's best work yet.
