When Rome grows wobbly, there is great concern, not just among our number, but all over the world.  It is because the Catholic Church matters. It has mattered since history was split in two and Our Lord founded His Church. As Lenny Bruce used to say, the Catholic Church is the only “the Church.” When anyone says, “the Church,” they are talking about us. Have you ever noticed how obsessed the world is with us? The world cannot get enough. The young people out there, there are those that think that the direction that Francis was leading was the only alternative but that isn’t correct and the youth joining tells us that. I think the smells and bells and the tradition is attracting the youth. This is the new energy in the Church, you leave that behind, you will lose them all. Germany’s bishops famously want the Church to liberalize even further. This would be a death sentence. In America, almost all the liberal priests are old, and they are not being replaced. Surveys show that today, all seminarians are conservative – much more so than the laity. This signals trouble ahead, but the fact is, liberal Catholicism is an exhausted project, one with no spiritual vitality or theological substance. In the US as in Europe, we are moving towards what Benedict XVI predicted: a smaller, weaker church, but one with a stronger faith. Francis’s government of the Church was so poor, based more on personal loyalty than on competence, that even progressive cardinals are reportedly eager for a change. Why does a Cardinal receive at his ordination or promotion, a red cardinal hat. Why is it red? It is symbolic of the red blood that Jesus shed for us. It shows that they are ready to lay down their lives for martyrdom like Jesus did. On top of that, he doesn’t remember all that much about repairing the equipment anyway because he hasn’t done it for years. So now he finds himself in control of once-fertile and productive land that he can’t utilize, and the people he used to rely on for help now refuse to lift a finger, because they see an opportunity to bankrupt their old neighbor and business partner, allowing them to buy up all that land for themselves at fire sale prices. That’s where America now is as a country. We stripped our economy down and sold it for parts, happy to have the cash in our pockets and ignorant of the possibility the good times could ever end.  Trump has understood these dynamics for decades, and is trying to reset our priorities to give us an economy that isn’t built on a foundation of paper. All three branches of our government — legislative, executive, and judicial — have to respect the Constitution’s clear separation of powers. If one of them doesn’t, there’s no reason that the others should. If you have cities like Boston saying the Supremacy Clause means nothing then government is over right? Our borders are fungible.  If the Supreme Court can simply disregard the Executive branch’s constitutional authority and allow it to be usurped by an inferior federal court, which is what happened, then there’s no reason the Executive branch under Trump should pay any attention to what the Supreme Court says in this case, because it’s trying to assert an authority it simply doesn’t have. It is a sin against charity. They have to stop this. Secede – this is the wrong way to go about it. We transferred border control to the Feds, that was the agreement. If one state has to do it, then ALL states have to do it. Alito  is right to be stunned. Here is a case in which a district judge, Ali, is explicitly claiming for himself executive authority to disburse federal funds and determine the time and manner in which the funds will be disbursed — powers clearly vested not in the judiciary but in the executive branch, that is, with President Trump. Ali simply brushed aside the Trump administration’s argument that sovereign immunity barred the enforcement order and arrogated to himself the right to exercise executive powers.  This on its own should be reason enough for the Trump administration to ignore the Supreme Court’s decision to let the lower court’s order stand. But there’s other problems too, like the fact that the lower federal court in this case lacks jurisdiction. Contract disputes with the federal government are only supposed to be heard by the Court of Federal Claims, not a D.C. district judge. Among other things, this means Ali’s order requires President Trump to violate existing federal law. I’m going to say this again, less censuring of those like Al Green and more firing and impeaching.  You have time to censure Al Green, you have time to impeach Judge Ali. Will Judge Roberts go to the White House and force President to write the check? This is going nowhere b/c Trump won’t write that check. The most serious problem, though, is this pernicious notion that any district judge, anywhere in the country, can dictate to the executive branch what it must or must not do, under the guise of issuing a temporary restraining order or a universal injunction in a pending case.  Biden just ignored SCOTUS ruling on Student Forgiveness did he not?
