These parents in the midst of the worst grief of their entire lives, they opened up their lives. They opened up their hearts. While 2 kids lost their lives Harper and Fletcher, there is still 1 kid in very serious condition. She is in surgery as we speak. My fellow Americans if you are the praying type, please pray the swelling will go down as she is still in a fight for her life and every single family to a person is desperate that the death toll stays at 2. The second thing to those that are parents, there is no word to describe how these parents are feeling. If you are lucky enough to be a father, make sure you hug your kids tight because there are two families that will never be able to do that again. Can you imagine Kamala Harris or Joe Biden trying to make that statement? That doesn’t come from coaching that comes from faith and charity. VP JD VANCE ON X: I just left Minneapolis, where I was honored to meet with a number of grieving famlies and hear about their beautiful children–in particular Harper (10) and Fletcher (8), who died in the Annunciation school shooting. I also met another beautiful girl who is recovering well, thank God. We discussed a lot, but all the families had a couple of immediate requests: First, to pray for Sophia, who continues to fight for her life every day. Pray for her health, pray for her swelling to be controlled, and pray for strength for her parents, doctors, and nurses.  Second, don’t give the shooter the attention, but focus on the kids who were taken from us. I learned that Harper had a smile that could light up the room, that she loved visiting the national parks with her parents, and that she looked beautiful in her first communion gown. I learned that Fletcher was rambunctious and energetic, that he loved football and basketball, and that he had an amazing head of hair.  Yes, they were taken from their families far too soon.  But in their short lives they made a big mark on the many people who loved them. But the point is not to brag — I don’t think these comments reflect anything about me and my teaching ability. I’m teaching in basically the same manner I have for years. I banned all cellphones and computer-based note taking in the classroom, with the exception that students could use a device if they wrote with a stylus. Initially, my students were skeptical, if not totally opposed. But after a couple of weeks, they recognized they were better off for it — better able to absorb and retain information, and better able to enjoy their time in class. The worst thing is to see a family eating out and they are ALL on mobile devices. The children on iPads or iPhones along with the parents. NONE of them are interacting w/ each other.  I’ve had to go to confession and confess anger and some words I may have said due to my phone. Like the constant updates, the constant not working the way it should. I’m not the only person that screams at my phone.  I attuned to where this “new” media is going to take us. My experience so far is not good. They are more worried about likes and clicks over actual factual content. We stopped viewing life through the lens of eternity. Anyway I was fascinated by this headline when I saw it and wanted to know more.  Every school in the country should implement this.  Students who were required to take class notes by hand retained significantly more information than students who used computers. The reason is that with computers, students can type as fast as I speak and strive for verbatim transcripts, but there is almost no mental processing of the class’s content. Conversely, virtually no one can hand write 125 words per minute for 90 minutes. Thus, handwritten notes require simultaneous mental processing to determine the important points that need recording. These were vicious murders, with so many questions left unanswered. While Life Imprisonment is tough, it’s certainly better than receiving the Death Penalty but, before Sentencing, I hope the Judge makes Kohberger, at a minimum, explain why he did these horrible murders. There are no explanations, there is no NOTHING. People were shocked that he was able to plea bargain, but the Judge should make him explain what happened. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
