Ep 18Twists and Turns from Corporate Life to Dream Farm Life | Jenna Byrne
In this episode, I talk to my friend Jenna about when she was five months pregnant with her first daughter; she and her husband quit their corporate jobs, sold everything they owned, and downsized to a travel trailer to travel the country and learn from other farmers. The twists and turns led them to truly understand what they wanted for their family. Through the conversation, we reminded ourselves that we must grow through all the challenging moments to get where we want to be.Jenna is a wife and mother to two beautiful girls, ages 5 & 2, and owns The Farm alongside her husband in Sequim, Washington. Eight years ago, she was told she'd need long-term prescription medication to manage her disease after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. Looking for other options, she stumbled upon the paleo diet and started learning how changes to her diet could put her condition into remission. This research led her and her husband to find a passion for raising their own livestock & growing their food. After spending three years in Tennessee building their farm, retreat, & micro-bakery business on rented land, they knew they were ready to return to the pacific northwest. They bought their dream farm in December 2021 & are currently selling their pasture-raised eggs, sourdough products, microgreens, fruits, & vegetables from their self-serve farm stand. They will be launching their Whole Health CSA by the Fall of 2022 & will be shipping their farm-fresh, small-batch products to customers all over the country. www.iiiriverskitchen.comTo listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.www.facebook.com/thelifeshiftpodcastInstagram: @thelifeshiftpodcastIf you'd like to support the show's recording and hosting costs, please visit: www.thelifeshiftpodcast.comPlease take a moment to rate the show. Ep 16Sometimes Things Shatter to Reveal Our Authentic Selves | Becca Berkey
In this episode, I talk to my friend Becca Berkey about the more recent pivotal moments in her life – the convergence of many nearly simultaneously. In one year, Becca got pregnant at 37, lost two family members on the same day, and then the world shut down due to the pandemic. But the most interesting part about her story is her journey that brought her to live authentically – driven by her values. My favorite part of this story is how she describes her journey – as a vase with cracks that eventually shattered to be reborn as something new, perhaps a mosaic table. We are a product of our journeys, and I hope many moments of Becca's journey resonate deeply and help someone feel slightly less alone.Becca Berkey is an interdisciplinary learner, researcher, and educator with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Butler University, a Master’s degree in College Student Personnel from Miami University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England. Ep 11Honoring Memories, Overcoming Life's Challenges: A Story of Grief, Growth and Empowerment | Matt Gilhooly
In this episode, we flipped the script so I could tell my story. Throughout the first batch of episodes, the guests (and listeners) asked when I would tell my story. So, in this episode, my first guest, Christin Lindley, leads the conversation as I share the pivotal moments that shaped my life and eventually led to The Life Shift podcast. As a child, Matt faced his mother's sudden and unexpected death. At just 8 years old, he had to grapple with the grief and sadness that comes with such a tragedy. He was also forced to adjust to a new life in Georgia, where he had to start school as "the new kid." Despite all this, he found comfort in his grandmother's love and support. Unfortunately, she eventually got a lung cancer diagnosis, and it became clear that her time was limited. On her 82nd birthday, they had a wonderful celebration surrounded by family. During this time, they were able to have an honest conversation about their relationship and express their gratitude for each other. After she passed away, he took time off from work to process his grief and come out on the other side with clarity. He realized that he had been living his life to other people's expectations, but now he could live authentically for himself. He learned that it's okay to be sad but also happy for the experiences you shared together. Grief is something you never get over, but it's important to process it to move forward in life.---Matt Gilhooly is a creator - podcaster, communicator, and educator. He is the creator, producer, editor, and host of The Life Shift Podcast. Spurred by his life-altering experiences, Matt helps others share the stories of pivotal moments that changed everything forever on The Life Shift Podcast. Ep 9After a Tragic Accident, Love Carries on in Memories and the Children | Rachel Fiorello
In this episode, I speak with my high school friend (and my grandmother's favorite neighbor), Rachel. She tells the story of fate intervening multiple times on her journey to marry the love of her life, Matt. Love won, and Rachel and Matt created a beautiful family of four. In a single moment in 2019, Rachel's dream was shattered after losing her husband, Matt, in a tragic accident. We talk about how things have changed for her and her daughters. My favorite part of this conversation is when Rachel tells us how she keeps the memory of Matt alive. She's even acquired some of his favorite tastes. Ep 8How Losing a Mother as a Teen Can Shape a Man | Marty Klein
In this episode of The Life Shift podcast, I talked to my friend Marty about the loss of his mother as a child. We highlight the similarities in our shifts throughout this conversation and note the vastly different ways our lives changed. What I found most interesting in our chat is how Marty's upbringing likely somewhat dictated his approach to loss and grief. We discussed how those early childhood moments may have been integral in how Marty curated the life he wanted to live.Once a proud Californian, Marty now calls Orlando, Florida, home but loves to travel often and definitely “works to live.” You can probably find him planning his next trip, perfecting a cocktail recipe, or visiting Disney parks (where he was previously a tour guide). To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.www.facebook.com/thelifeshiftpodcastInstagram: @thelifeshiftpodcastIf you'd like to support the show's recording and hosting costs, please visit: www.thelifeshiftpodcast.comPlease take a moment to rate the show. Ep 7Overcoming Adversity : In Sickness and in Health | Christina Kadinger & Ricky Bucceri
In this episode, I talked to two self-described "stubborn and sarcastic people" who survived some crazy pivot points that collided simultaneously. You think your words at your wedding are silly, but they live daily reciting the "in sickness and in health" part of their vows. While planning their wedding, Christina and Ricky faced unexpected health news. In Christina's case, she thought she was stressed, triggering intense headaches and migraines. In Ricky's case, he just didn't feel right. In our conversation, we talk about how these moments changed their lives and what they wish for other people facing similar issues. Throughout, we laugh through a tough conversation, showing precisely the type of incredible people these two are.To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.www.facebook.com/thelifeshiftpodcastInstagram: @thelifeshiftpodcastIf you'd like to support the show's recording and hosting costs, please visit: www.thelifeshiftpodcast.comPlease take a moment to rate the show. Ep 6Battling Multiple Sclerosis Through Mind, Body, and Soul. | Morgan Gallo
Join me on this episode as I talk to my friend, Morgan (Mo), from high school. Our paths only briefly passed, but we sparked a strong connection, and since then, I have been following her journey. In this episode, we talk about how Mo's MS (Multiple Sclerosis) diagnosis changed her life and how she feels it necessary to bring her to the current appreciation for the simple things in life. We discuss honoring our pasts, learning to be vulnerable, and providing space because "our mess is our message."Mo's journey has been the catalyst that has helped rebuild her foundation for her life, leading her to fully align with her Soul's purpose. Whether it is entertaining on a comedy stage, speaking at an event, teaching breathwork, serving as a Spiritual and well-being coach, or helping others heal through an Intuitive Session, her goal is to aid others with their healing process (whatever that might look like) and to help them find their Soul's purpose. To better serve others in this light, she has become a certified Mari Consultant, breath coach, and hypnotherapist specializing in past life regression (QHHT). Her latest endeavor is co-hosting a Spiritual & Well-being based podcast that provides a fun, raw, positive, and safe space for those seeking answers and guidance on the Mind, Body, & Soul. She created this podcast in light of those seeking a different perspective than what society has taught us.To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts.www.facebook.com/thelifeshiftpodcastInstagram: @thelifeshiftpodcastIf you'd like to support the show's recording and hosting costs, please visit: www.thelifeshiftpodcast.comPlease take a moment to rate the show. Ep 5The Importance of Support: Finding a Community During Infertility | Lauren Yard
Lauren joined me to talk about her journey of building her family. She is happily married with two children under three years old. However, it was not an easy journey for Lauren as she faced over two years of infertility and multiple miscarriages. We discuss the need for support and normalizing discussions about seemingly taboo topics. We also talk about letting go and controlling the things in our power and allowing life to teach us the lessons it has for us.Lauren is a mom of 2 human boys and two dogs. With such an energetic crew, she looks to her husband for comedic relief and calmness when the household seems a little chaotic. She can frequently be found in a flower garden, reading young adult novels, sitting in the sunshine, and eating cold food and leftover snacks because… kids. She prides herself on finding a way to make things work when all hope seems lost--fully aware that some call that denial; she calls it persistence.
