Mariel & Melissa welcome actor and filmmaker Dedee Pfeiffer to Out Comes The Sun! From truly humble beginnings, Dedee, her brother Rick, and her sister’s Lori and Michelle Pfeiffer grew up in Midway City, California, as the children of a heating and air conditioning contractor and a homemaker. Dedee Pfeiffer landed her first movie role in John Landis' film "Into the Night" and her first television role in the series "Simon & Simon." She went on to star opposite Grace Jones in the horror cult classic comedy "Vamp," and was in such films as the cult classic "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas and in the award-winning film "L.A., I Hate You." Dedee was cast on "Cybil" as Cybil Shepherd's daughter Rachel. Cybil went on to earn nearly three dozen awards and nominations, picking up three Primetime Emmy awards and the Golden Globe Award for best television series - musical or comedy. Dedee and the rest of the cast were nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. Dedee went on to star in the series "For Your Love" and guest starred in several of the most iconic shows on television, including "Seinfeld," "Friends," two "CSI" series and "ER." In 2020, she began starring as Denise Brisbane in the ABC crime drama series, "Big Sky" created by her brother-in-law David E. Kelley. And although Dedee has officially “made it” a long time ago, in Hollywood as an actor, what she may be most proud of is “making it” in life and in her recent recovery. Today Mariel & Melissa welcome Cory Richards to the show! Cory is an internationally renowned photographer, filmmaker/director, and writer. He is an artist and storyteller who passionately explores the human experience through all mediums. Cory uses his life as a conduit to illuminate the global issues we face and how to overcome them through re-humanization, the reimagining of leadership, and vulnerability. His work for National Geographic Magazine began with adventure features, exploring the most remote corners of the globe from Antarctica to the Russian Arctic. As a professional climber, his early career was defined by high-risk expeditions and leaned on his unique skillset to capture stories that were largely out of reach to others. Much of Cory’s life has been defined by his journey with Mental Health to which he speaks openly and honestly, laying bare the hidden struggles that so many face in silence and solitude. As a high school dropout at 14, his life has followed an irregular arch that has lent itself well to exploring the balance of high achievement and struggles with mental health. My very special guest today is Singer & Songwriter, Emily Halpern. I regard these two things in life as highly valuable. The Gift of Laughter - I can never repay the gift of the laughter that someone shared with me. The Gift of Music I can never repay a music artist for the gift of their music, and how it makes me feel. I can never fully explain to them how life wouldn’t be nearly as sweet for living without the gift of their music. Theses are gifts that I can never repay in full. I was aware of Emily Halpern’s writing years before I knew who she was or had met her. Her words had made me laugh, so many countless nights watching Black-Ish, of which she was a writer and Producer from 2016 - 2017. And who could forget “Booksmart” Directed by Olivia Wilde written by Emily Halpern, Susan Vogel, Sarah Haskins and Katie Silberman? Those laughs made my cheeks sting pink. Booksmart laughs were guilty pleasure laughs for sure. I was introduced to her when I created a “Love Letter to Luqcues”. Lucques was the infamous restaurant in LA owned by Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, and operated by General Manager Matt Duggan. It had closed during covid, for good. I was looking for love stories on the patrons of Lucques. Matt Duggan said that I should speak to Emily Halpern, a screenwriter. And when I did, Emily Halpern had one of the sweetest love stories of all. You see, Emily had her second date with her husband Evan at Lucques, tucked away in a corner table in the bar. The way Emily tells it, They both knew they had found each other’s soulmate that night. They had their wedding at Lucques. And, Their first born daughter Franny just missed her very first Sunday Super at Lucques before the Pandemic shut everything down. PART II My two very special guests today are NBC's The Voice SN 23 - Gina Miles and Kala Banham! First up: GINA MILES Team Niall Age: 18 Hometown: Paxton, IL Resident: Sacramento, CA It was impossible for Gina not to be involved in music growing up with a single dad who DJ’d every weekend. When she turned 14, she asked him if she could be more involved in his gigs and would help him set up his equipment. Gina always felt that she wanted to be somewhere bigger than her small Illinois town and performing became a way for her to stand out. Throughout high school, she realized she wanted to pursue music more seriously. With her father and stepmother’s support, she decided to move in with her aunt in Sacramento. The transition to a big city was very intimidating at first, but she now feels more comfortable. Next, KALA BANHAM Team Niall Follow Kala on Twitter - @kalabanham In IG + Tik Tok - @kalabanham Age: 24 Hometown: Kissimmee, FL Resident: Windermere, FL As Kala is a first-generation American. Kala wouldn’t be where she is today without her Australian roots and Filipino culture. At big family gatherings, Kala’s Lola would ask her to sing for everyone, rewarding her granddaughter with $5 following each performance. PART I My two very special guests today are NBC's The Voice SN 23 - Gina Miles and Kala Banham! That upbringing eventually led Kala to pursue music wherever she could - singing in her high school jazz band, leading worship in church and joining a competitive collegiate a cappella group. Mariel & Melissa welcome the best comedian in the world, Mr. John Cleese to Out Comes The Sun! He is one of the most recognized and popular comic actors in the world. In fact, the father of modern satire crowns a list of 50 of the most revered names in entertainment. More than 300 comedians, comedy writers, producers, and directors on both sides of the Atlantic have named John Cleese #2 on the list of the world's most talented comedians. The list was compiled for the Channel 4 show - “The Comedians' Comedian” John Cleese is probably best known for his television work on Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers, but if you ask anyone under 20 who John Cleese is, they give you a quizzical look at first, and when you say “Nick the Nearly Headless Ghost” in the Harry Potter film series, they light up and shout “I LOVE JOHN CLEESE!” John Cleese has appeared in numerous movies, including Time Bandits, Silverado, The Out-of-Towners, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, and The Day the Earth Stood Still. He had leading roles in several comedies, such as “A Fish Called Wanda,” a cult classic and my dad’s favorite movie of all time. He also did voice work in numerous films, including the Shrek series as well as Charlotte’s Web and Trolls. Find John Cleese on: On Instagram - @johncleeseofficial Learn more about your ad choices.
