Certainly, it’s better than the current state of affairs—where an unhinged fascist controls the levers of power and a pandemic ravages the world—but still far from ideal. In this episode we’ll discuss the need to actually change the status quo and not allow ourselves to become accustomed to the old normal again.

The DNC platform committee is overwhelmingly rejecting progressive proposals such as Medicare For All and weed legalization, resulting in a likely rebellion at the convention in August. Additionally, as Americans face a looming eviction crisis, congressional Democrats keep caving to the demands of the Republican Party. The prospect of authoritarianism in America is no longer a matter of ‘if’ or ‘when’—it’s here. Trump’s ongoing occupation of Portland, and threat to deploy federal agents to more cities, shows how powerful and tyrannical the Executive branch has become. To make matters worse, there’s little hope his rogue and brazenly unconstitutional actions can (or actually will) be reigned in. This is authoritarianism—full stop. On that note we’ll talk about what could happen if he refuses to step down in the event he loses the election in November, his backtracking on COVID-19, and the hilariously clueless attack strategy he’s using against Joe Biden. We’ll close the show by talking to Jessica Scarane, who’s running for the U.S. Senate against Chris Coons in Delaware, and we’ll conclude the episode by remembering the life of the great Michael Brooks.

Trump actually followed through on his threat to violently quell protests and override governors; however, instead of using the military he’s deployed DHS and ICE agents to protests in Seattle, D.C. and Portland, Oregon under the guise of defending statues. Federal agents have remained in Portland in spite of Governor Kate Brown’s objections. We’ll talk about this fascistic escalation. Also, Trump’s brain continues to melt, COVID continues to spread, Joe Biden offers the left something good, and progressives win big in Texas. Finally, we’ll close the show by talking to 2020 congressional candidate Jen Perelman in Florida’s 23rd congressional district, who’s running against the notoriously corrupt Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Trump’s administration has officially given up the fight against COVID-19, with White House staffers reportedly hoping Americans will become “numb” to the deaths caused by the pandemic. That approach (or lack thereof) paired with Trump’s supporters actively fighting against mask mandates and shaming responsible people that choose to wear masks has culminated in an absolute disaster for the country. Additionally, Trump’s administration is pressuring governors to resume school in the fall as normal.
