Ep: 300 – Indianapolis Colts Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman take a look back at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. We talked about this game being a real test of the team, and frankly, the Lions failed against the Indianapolis Colts. It was a low energy, game in which the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Lions in the trenches and set the tone for the entire game. While not pivotal to the game’s outcome, we got a nice dose of terrible officiating that we’ve become accustomed to over the years. Indianapolis Colts Beat The Lions Up! It all happened in the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines for the Indianapolis Colts just dominated the Lions this week. It was a clinic on how important an offensive and defensive line are in the NFL. Matthew Stafford was hit/sacked a number of times, and never looked very comfortable in the pocket. Couple that with a team that just couldn’t find energy and you get the shellacking that the Lions received today. We talked about this game being a statement game for the Lions, and the statement they made was unintelligible. Tell Everyone You Know! Ep: 299 – Indianapolis Colts Game Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Tony “TO” Ortiz take a look ahead at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. This game is a real test of the Lions and whether their trajectory is real, or they just came out on top of a couple of really bad teams. The Indianapolis Colts are looking to increase their record to 5-2 with a win over the Lions. Injury report, scouting the match-ups, and keys to the game are here to help you get ready for the game against the Indianapolis Colts. Detroit Lions Podcast Asks Tony Ortiz About Everson Griffen! So at the end of the show, we discuss Everson Griffen coming to the Lions and what he means to the defense. Will Everson Griffen improve the defense at 32 years old, or is he on the down slope of his career and only adding to a less than effective Lions rush? Who will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Everson Griffen signing? We’ll let you know and help you set the right expectations when Everson Griffen takes the field against the Minnesota Vikings Indianapolis Colts Are Next The highly touted Indianapolis Colts Offensive line is coming to Ford Field, and they hope to start pushing the Lions around right away. With the Indianapolis Colts Center Ryan Kelly not practicing and being listed as “Questionable”, the Lions might just get a break and have an opportunity to use that injury in their favor. Vegas favors the Colts at -3, but there’s more to it than just that. We’ll dive in and help you with the betting lines as well Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 298 – Everson Griffen + Indianapolis Colts – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break the news moments after it occurs – The Detroit Lions have traded for Everson Griffen. Obviously, big news for the team, so we cover it twice. We also discuss the wide receiver corps and look at an advanced stats view of player performance. We also discuss the running back room, Lions defense, and remaining strength of schedule in the NFC North. We also take a brief look ahead to the Indianapolis Colts. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Everson Griffen Trade! Huge news broke as we were going live with today’s show. The Detroit Lions have traded a conditional sixth round pick to the Dallas Cowboys, and have picked up Everson Griffen in return. For a song and a tad over $3 million the Detroit Lions have significantly upgraded their pass rush with Everson Griffen, who is certain to make the players around him better. We’ll talk about how he helps the team and when we will finally see him. The best news? We’ve got him twice against a team that tossed him to the trash heap. That should be fun. Indianapolis Colts Get Shorter Time With the breaking Everson Griffen news, we don’t get to give the full treatment to the Indianapolis Colts game. We do discuss what to look for, and how the Lions defense should attack Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Phillip Rivers. A key match-up we discuss is the Lions defensive front against the Indianapolis Colts offensive line. That is going to be a battle all day, the Colts o-line is one of the best, and will likely signal which team is having the most success. A win against the Indianapolis Colts would do a lot for the Lions confidence and help atone for early season difficulties. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. We’ve got a plan to make it happen, and will be bringing out the big guns. Let’s help make it a great “Christmas For The Kids”, together, starting on November 6. Ep: 297 – Atlanta Falcons Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman kick off celebration Sunday after a great Lions win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Atlanta Falcons were a good test for a Lions team who needs to string a few wins together to have any hope of making this season relevant. For Matt Patricia, the Atlanta Falcons could very well have had his career in their hands. Instead, the Lions walk away with a win. The Atlanta Falcons Defense showed up! This game against the Atlanta Falcons was widely expected to be a shoot-out, with neither defense garnering a whole lot of respect around the league. The Lions were able to bring the defense that showed itself in Jacksonville on the trip to Atlanta, and the Falcons stepped up to ensure the Lions didn’t have an easy day of it. The result was a score that came in under the Vegas O/U by 15 points. The Atlanta Falcons are definitely a better team than their record shows, but for two away games in a row, the Lions were able to cinch up and walk away with a win. On different note, that’s coach Matt Patricia’s first two-win streak since he started coaching the Lions. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Test Against The Colts The Lions have been on a great trajectory since the bye week, two wins and a lot of hop starting to come back. The Indianapolis Colts will provide the next test, a better team than both Atlanta and Jacksonville, this feels like the Lions are marching toward the next boss in your favorite video game. Slowly escalating difficulty coupled with a need for an increased level of play to find success. Are the Lions up to the task? Three of the last four games of the season will present a series of boss battles that may determine more than just the playoff fate of this team… Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 296 – Atlanta Falcons Game Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Jeff Risdon, and Tony Ortiz preview player performances and take a look ahead to the game against the Atlanta Falcons. As a team who played unexpectedly well last week, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to build on their success after firing coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following their 0-5 start. The Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team! They aren’t terrible either. The situation with the Atlanta Falcons front office changes last week wasn’t a case of an owner giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working anymore.” The Atlanta Falcons players reacted to the front office shakeup strongly and rushed out to a strong lead against the Vikings early before almost giving up the game in the 4th. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, what the Lions need to do to pull out a victory, and who to look for along the way. Detroit Lions Podcast Predicts A Surprising Outcome We discuss the emergence of the Atlanta Falcons interim coach Raheem Morris and how the players are fighting for him to take the role of permanent Head Coach of the team. We also share our thoughts on important match-ups during the game, Lions keys to the game, the Vegas line, and predict potential outcomes. The Lions are facing an interesting opponent in the Atlanta Falcons this week, and both teams’ season could pivot on the outcome on Sunday. Ep: 295 – Lions On To The Atlanta Falcons – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take a look at the Lions season so far, breakdown player performances and take a look ahead to the game against the Atlanta Falcons. As a team who played unexpectedly well last week, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to build on their success after firing coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following their 0-5 start. Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team! The situation with the Atlanta Falcons wasn’t a case of a team giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working any more.” The Atlanta Falcons reacted to the news/situation as though it was a wake up call. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, and what to expect. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees An Easier Road Ahead For The Team We discuss the improvement of Matthew Stafford, the emergence of D’Andre Swift, Jarrad Davis and his new found success, and the emergence of a defensive pass rush. All things we needed to see from the Lions, and that we absolutely need to continue against the Atlanta Falcons. We cover all of that including the excellent run blocking and terrible rush ranking paradox facing the team. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 294 – Jacksonville Jaguars Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman help Lions fans celebrate the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Lions were able to play very well in all three phases of the game, which is not something we see very often from this team, and logged a convincing victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Is this something to look forward to, or was it a flash against a terrible team? Jacksonville Jaguars Aren’t A Good Team! There is an obvious argument that the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t a good football team. Many Lions fans follow with, “this win is meaningless because the Jags stink!” While this may be true, the Jacksonville Jaguars are an NFL team with NFL-caliber talent. The Lions didn’t eke out a win, nor did they seem to struggle at any point. If you were to see this score in a Packers/Jaguars game, you’d feel that was “right”. Take the win and enjoy it, the Lions played well. Detroit Lions Podcast Still Has Questions With that there are questions that we will need to start asking right after victory Monday. Questions like, “Is Matthew Stafford back?” “Was this defensive showing the result of game plan, or has a real adjustment been made in the bye week?” “Will we see this defense again?” “Is D’Andre Swift really as good as he looked?” There are a lot of things to think about and a second watch this week will help. Great win from the Lions, hope to see this continue. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 293 – Jacksonville Jaguars Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Jeff Risdon, and Tony Ortiz get together to preview the Detroit Lions upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Lions have a lot of similar issues to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a struggling defense, a 1-3 record, and a fan base that is ready for a coaching change. Jacksonville Jaguars Coaching Struggles This could be a pivotal game for both teams, and might be the final nail in the coffin for the coach whose team comes away the loser. It may turn into a battle between to see which coach still has their players on board. As I often do, I’m putting my money on the Lions to take this game and the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the one’s taking action in relieving their coach of his duties. Detroit Lions Podcast Previews Tony Ortiz and Jeff Risdon make a great case for a Lions win this week, whether Lions fans want it or not. The Lions are heading into a stretch of very winnable games, and while it isn’t anyone’s prediction, the New York Giants won a Super Bowl with a 9-7 team that no one thought had any business even making the playoffs. As crazy as 2020 has been, it might not hurt to let your mind imagine the insanity for a bit. That’s on you though, it never comes up in the show. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 292 – Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring you the latest Lions news heading out of the bye week and into the rest of the Lions season, starting at the Jacksonville Jaguars. Here we are facing one of the most important, must win games of Matt Patricia’s coaching career in Week 6 of a Covid-plagued NFL season. Even Vegas is betting against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, so a loss by the Lions could signal the end of Matt Patricia’s time in Detroit. Detroit Lions Podcast Reflects On Coaching Errors In this episode we tackle a number of topics, but one of the most important is likely Chris’s discussion about the ongoing coaching failures in Detroit, and a very possible cause. Chris explains exactly why Jim Caldwell was a 9-7 coach at best in Detroit, and likely why Jim Schwartz had the success he did, and even a likely key to why Matt Patricia is having difficulty as well. From there he defines one very specific coordinator he wants, why he wants him, and what it means to selecting the next Head Coach for this team. The Lions Still Have To Face The Jacksonville Jaguars We take a look ahead to the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and what it will take for the Lions to pull out a must win game against an exceptionally bad Jacksonville team. We also take you ‘Around The Division’, discuss Jeff Okudah’s growth, dig in on the defensive line, and discuss the sudden surge of former Lions receiver Travis Fulgham. There are plenty of valid reasons to rip on the Lions coaching and scouting staff, but Travis Fulgham isn’t really one of them. Ep: 291 – Lions Bye Week Blues – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring you the latest Lions news heading into the bye week. There’s a heck of a lot more to talk about than one might think. Fans are down due to the team’s performance, some want heads on stakes, and many just welcome a break from the pain. How do you put together a show when facing those headwinds? Like a boss, that’s how. Listen in and see what we’re talking about… Detroit Lions Podcast Talks The ‘Arc Of A Lions Fan’ Chris has talked about his ‘Arc of a Lions Fan’ theory a few times on the show, this time he lays it all out. He explains why the Lions present a unique fan experience, and one that is repeatable, predictable, and which the Detroit Lions organization really needs to understand before it’s too late. It’s definitely worth a listen, if only to understand where you are on the arc, and how to break the cycle. We also ask whether we should adjust our opinions to align with the current “popular” opinion. It’s an interesting question, and with 5 different hosts from extremely diverse backgrounds on the show during a typical game week, all providing their differing opinions, we land on ‘no’. That’s not giving away the ghost on this, the ‘why’ is probably the real meat of this discussion. Bye For Football – The Coach Too? It’s been a big week on Twitter about the state of the Detroit Lions and their coaching staff. Many have brought out the knives for the Lions coach, Matt Patricia, and GM Bob Quinn as well. Some however, have a different opinion. Lawrence Jackson brought some real insight and thoughtful commentary this week, definitely worth checking out. We go back over Coach Jim Caldwell’s tenure, and even spend some time on Jim Schwartz’s time with the team. After talking through and reminding fans of the historical perspective, we start to discuss Matt Patricia’s legacy with the Lions and what it might mean. We also cover the Houston Texans firing of Bill O’Brien, and what the ‘right time’ to fire a coach is for the Lions. There’s a lot more to this than sending someone packing, and fans needs to think of that within the context of the big picture and what it means for the team over the long term Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 289 – New Orleans Saints Preview – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by world famous superstar Tony “TO” Ortiz, and Jeff “The Riz” Risdon to preview this week’s Lions game against the New Orleans Saints. A great show, and TO gets a little loose lipped with a Brandstatter story teaser and rumors of a picture of him in a Spider man costume… More to come on that! The New Orleans Saints Injury Report Is Longer Than War & Peace While the New Orleans Saints are the 4.5 point Vegas favorites, that could all change with the release of the New Orleans Saints Injury Report. Both starting cornerbacks (Marshon Lattimore and Janoris Jenkins), Jared Cook, Andrus Peat, Marcus Davenport, and Michael Thomas are all ‘out’ for the New Orleans Saints. If there was ever a game where Matthew Stafford should break free, find his groove, and open up, this one looks set up to be the one. Kenny Golladay with another week of healing puts him and Marvin Jones in their respective positions of strength, TJ Hockenson, Danny Amendola, and even Jesse James look poised to have a big day. If you’re looking for D’Andre Swift to have his first show out game, I’d expect it against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday. In other words, take the over. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Match-ups Chris, Jeff, and Tony scout out their most important match-ups for the game and discuss keys to the Lions victory. Each of us found another key for the Lions to beat the New Orleans Saints after their strong showing against the Arizona Cardinals. We spend some time reviewing that game (which we all predicted wrong), and what it could mean if the Lions were to come out of this week with a 2-2 record. Boy would some heads explode if that were to happen… Predictions finish the show off, and you just might be surprised by what you hear. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude – Christmas For The Kids We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 288 – Lions On To New Orleans Saints – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take you through the Lions first win of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, look ahead to the New Orleans Saints, and a whole lot more. Detroit Lions Podcast Puts The Arizona Cardinals Game Under Further Review The Detroit Lions played a great game against the Arizona Cardinals. The defense stepped up like it hasn’t so far in 2020, and it looked very good doing it. Chris debunks the narrative that the Lions didn’t win the game and that Kyler Murray lost it, with some help from Ash Thompson. The Lions stepped up in all three phases of the game to take that one away from the Arizona Cardinals, and are looking to do it again next week against the New Orleans Saints. The guys also discuss the lowering difficulty of the schedule after the bye week and what it could mean for the team’s performance on the year. Also, what it might mean insofar as the team keeping Matt Patricia as coach. There are many layers to this, and we start to work with some of them on what will certainly be a multi-week conversation. On To The New Orleans Saints This is where the Lions get their chance to show that they are truly heading in the right direction – Sunday afternoon at Ford Field against the New Orleans Saints. The Lions will definitely have to take the next step as a team, the offense and ball control is likely going to be key again against the New Orleans Saints. Alvin Kamara is going to be difficult to stop, and Drew Brees might be old, but no one thinks he’s washed up. The New Orleans Saints are coming off of two tough weeks of football and likely expect to roll over the Lions. This game is a statement game for Detroit – how they play against the New Orleans Saints this week may very well define their season. Ep: 287 – Lions & Arizona Cardinals Post Game – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Andy the Sandman to help you celebrate the Lions first win in eleven months, and they got it over the Arizona Cardinals. An unexpected event that was an excellent team effort by the Lions in all phases of the game. Kyler Murray didn’t have a great game, but much of that was forced by how the Lions attacked their offense. Lions Didn’t Let The Arizona Cardinals Take Off The Lions did a great job of containing Kyler Murray in the pocket other than on designed run plays. In doing so, they limited the Arizona Cardinals offense in a way that gave the Lions a chance to exchange scores throughout the game. The lead was traded between teams multiple times, but with solid play in all three phases of the game the Lions were able to stop Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals to set up Matthew Stafford’s Lions final drive. This put the Lions in position to run the clock out with a victory on a Matt Prater field goal. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Full Game From The Lions The win over the Arizona Cardinals started with a solid defensive performance, including the Jeff Okudah interception (his first) that Chris predicted on Friday’s show with Jeff Risdon and Tony Ortiz. The Lions defense has been lacking this year, but they were able to scheme around the Arizona Cardinals offense in a way that gave the Lions offense what they needed to pull out a victory in Arizona. Of course, we take your calls – that’s what we do on the post-game show. We update the Detroit Lions Podcast “Meaningful Games In Decemb-o-mometer” as a result of today’s win over the Arizona Cardinals and take your calls. Its celebration Sunday and Monday for Lions fans, and then we get ready to face the New Orleans Saints. We also announce that we are “getting the band back together!” Dan Miller, Jim Brandstatter, and Tony Ortiz, the Detroit Lions Radio Network’s Superstar Lions crew are reuniting for the first time since Jim Brandstatter was asked to leave the Radio team with Dan. Join us at the 24-hour podcast-a-thon when they call in and share never-before-heard behind-the-scenes stories and take us back to the golden era of Lions Radio broadcasts. Ep: 286 – Arizona Cardinals Preview – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and Tony “TO” Ortiz to preview this week’s Lions game against the Arizona Cardinals. As always we have a great show with insights you won’t get anywhere else! Arizona Cardinals Are The Favorites Here we are at game three of a season in which the Lions desperately need a win. They’ve had a tough schedule so far, and that difficulty level isn’t easing up. The Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murry aren’t going to make things much easier for the hapless Lions. The one thing the Lions have in their favor is that Arizona has the weakest defense the Lions have seen in the season so far – that’s something the Lions look to exploit. The Lions are going to need to put a lot of points on the board, and are hoping to see the Matthew Stafford of early 2019 on the field against the Arizona Cardinals, not the one who we’ve seen in 2020. We’ll talk about why there’s hope that this just might be the case. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Defense This is likely to be a tough test for rookie Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah as he’s likely to face off against the timeless Larry Fitzgerald, a wily vet who has the talent of a man many years younger. This is going to be a key match-up for the Lions, as is the defensive line. Kenyan Drake is always a threat, and Kyler Murray can run like no other. The Lions are going to need to take the ball away from the Arizona Cardinals, likely more than once, if they have any hope to win the game. We’ll share our predictions, the Detroit Lions Podcast “Meaningful Games In Decemb-o-mometer” makes its first appearance, Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals Injury Reports, and a whole lot more jam this info-packed show. Ep: 285 – Lions & Green Bay Packers Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by the post-game brain known as Sandman. They discuss the Lions loss to the Green Bay Packers. It’s a big therapy week, and thus a pretty long show. If you need to find a way to get over the loss and have a couple of laughs along the way, we’ve got the salve you need. Green Bay Packers Sit Atop The Division No one thought it would be the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears at the top of the division with the Minnesota Vikings and Lions sitting winless after two game. The Packers are showing strong early this year, and the struggling Lions were an early casualty. The Lions have an extremely difficult start to the season and for all intents and purposes it looks like the team will be winless going into the bye week. Should we fire coach Matt Patricia now? Chris still says, “not yet”. Sandman tends to agree. Everyone agrees it’s a terrible place for the team and fans to be only two games into the season. Detroit Lions Podcast Let’s You Know When We talk about timing on the coach firing that seems inevitable at this point. While coach Matt Patricia still has a lot of season to work with before it can be determined if the Lions will be playing “meaningful games in December”, the fuse is definitely getting shorter. Chris will tell you when he think pulling the trigger makes the most sense, not just for immediate satisfaction, but for the long term health of the team. The boys also discuss their thinking on Bob Quinn’s future with the organization. In there we also discuss the game and the performance of players both for the Lions and Green Bay Packers (good and bad). Lastly, we take a ton of calls throughout the show – I have to say that by the end of the show we all agreed that the therapy worked and we were ready to move on. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. We’ve got a plan to make it happen, and will be bringing out the big guns. Let’s help make it a great “Christmas For The Kids”, together, starting on November 6. Ep: 284 – Green Bay Packers Preview – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and a slightly late Tony Ortiz – Check that, Tony is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to. Dean Blandino is here with his insight on exactly what’s going on with Clete Blakeman too – this is huge news for Lions fans. Dean Blandino Talks Clete Blakeman, the NFL And More We get Dean Blandino on the phone again to discuss what in the heck the NFL was thinking by putting “controversial” referee, Clete Blakeman, on the Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers game. This is a no win situation for the NFL or the crew – and historically, the Lions. Dean talks through how they typically handle such things, why things might be different this time, and goes into a number of other topics. As always, love him or hate him, Dean Blandino brings great insight to the show and what the NFL is doing. Detroit Lions Podcast Green Bay Preview After last Sunday’s game, listening to fans all week, and thinking the city was burning down, no one was feeling particularly great about facing the Green Bay Packers in week two. A perennial playoff contender with their second Hall of Fame quarterback in a row is never a fun place to go as a visiting team. Looking from a distance, this is a blowout win for the Packers, but we dive in a little deeper and see something a little different. We start with this week’s Lions and Green Bay Packers Injury Report. The Detroit Lions and Green Back Packers have a long history, but recently, the Lions have been really close, and had the Packers number. As a matter of fact, they’ve beat the Packers twice since they’ve beaten Chicago. This is a much better match-up than many would expect, and if both team show up in Lambeau it should be a highly contested game. Jeff Risdon and Tony Ortiz make their predictions, while Chris plays Case’s normal road and rides the fence a little bit. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude We discuss our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. Ep: 283 – Lions To The Green Bay Packers – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case for our weekly podcast. It’s been a tough start to the week after the Chicago Bears game, and Lions fans already want blood. We’ve done our re-watch, we’ve got the stats, and we talk about what went wrong, where this team is, and what to expect next week against the Green Bay Packers. Detroit Lions Podcast say R-E-L-A-X It’s not time to burn down the house. For perspective, 2020 has been a whirlwind of bad news, let’s all be thankful that we at least have football at this point. That being said, the Lions lost a close one in their first game against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field. This doesn’t foment a lot of hope for their chances against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau field. Reacting too harshly or too excitedly about the results of the first game of an NFL season is never good for one’s psychological health. Enjoy that we have football and if the team does poorly that the Coach will be gone. Or, conversely, enjoy the bounce-back that gets this team a playoff spot. Either way, enjoy the game of football. A lot of work went into making sure we could have it, and burning it (or each other) down with vitriol just isn’t worth it, nor is it healthy. There’s a lot of great stuff in this show, we take your calls, both live and on the Lions Line, we talk about Patricia’s tenure, and the starts and realities from Sunday’s Chicago Bears game. We quickly walk across the league, and then preview the Green Bay Packers game for listeners. Oh yeah, Clete Blakeman. We talk about him – we’ll cover him and how he got this gig much more in depth during the preview show on Friday. Help Us Raise Money For St. Jude We announce our plans around our upcoming (2nd annual) fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Hospital – we raised almost $7,500 last time, this time our goal is much, much higher. We’ve got a plan to make it happen, and will be bringing out the big guns. Let’s help make it a great “Christmas For The Kids”, together, starting on November 6. Ep: 282 – Lions & Chicago Bears Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Andy the Sandman Morse and Case to look back on the Lions game against the Chicago Bears today. Detroit Lions Podcast Gets Your Reactions Well, this one didn’t end up how Lions fans wanted it to. After a slow start, the Lions seemed to bring things together to take a 17-point lead against the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, two familiar bugs bit this team, and left us with an all too familiar result. The first bug was the injury bug. We started the game down one cornerback, and by the end of the game we were down three. I don’t care who you are playing, in the NFL your 5th cornerback is going to get burned if you have to play him regularly during a game. The result was another bug bite – blowing a lead late in the game. This all too familiar feeling has been the bane of Lions fans for years. Starting a season off against the Chicago Bears (a team you expect to beat) and blowing a 17 point lead is no a way to win fans over. As we saw today, it’s a blueprint for mutiny. To be honest, I’ve never seen as much rage and anger in fans in years as I saw today. It was exponentially worse than any loss I can remember in recent history. It’s one game, there is a lot of season ahead, folks. Save some of that frustration, there will be plenty of opportunities to let it out as the year progresses. If Jamie Collins performance is any indication, many more. Check Us Out On YouTube! If you prefer the video version of the podcast, check out the Detroit Lions Podcast YouTube Channel here. Ep: 281 – Lions vs. Chicago Bears Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and Tony Ortiz to preview the Lions season opener at Ford Field against the Chicago Bears. It’s been a while since we’ve had Tony on the show, and he’s all about continuing to join us as the season goes on, so look out for his great insights, and personality as we move forward. Detroit Lions Podcast Staring Down The Chicago Bears First things first, we quickly cover what the Chiefs and Texans game last night felt like. Football is new in a strange way in the Covid era, and we discussed what it felt like, what it means for the Lions, and what things will be like at Ford Field. Tony “The Anchor” Ortiz brings us the late-breaking Lions and Chicago Bears Injury reports and we discuss what that means to the Lions and what it’s going to take to overcome the Bears on Sunday. In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case discuss the latest news as the Lions cut down to their 53 man roster. There were a few surprises that we discuss, a couple that we expected on the practice squad, and a loss we totally didn’t expect. We’ve got a big week of information coming your way with our game preview on Friday with Jeff Risdon and Tony Ortiz from 97.1, as well as our first live post game show right after Sunday’s game with Sandman and Case. Detroit Lions Podcast Covers The 53 Man Roster Out of the chute we get into the Lions naming their 53 man roster. Of course the signing of Adrian Peterson (with all the AD vs. AP talk we just landed at ADP – he’s money after all, right?). We also cover the practice squad decisions, including the number of quarterbacks being carried on the roster (Case gets a chance to hold that over some folks’ head) while Chris crashes and burns on his Jason Huntley prediction. That one hurt. Oday Aboushi almost added to Chris’s embarrassment, but luckily Bob Quinn decided to bring him back onto the roster saving Chris from a double miss from the last show. Our mini preview of the Lions Bears makes some very important points about just how important this game is to GM Bob Quinn and Coach Matt Patricia. It seems silly that the first game of the year, one in which literally anything is possible, in a Covid year could be make or break, but Chris truly believes that it really is. This is just where the Detroit Lions are. We also take you on a quick jaunt Around The Division. Don’t miss this episode if you want to be ready for the Detroit Lions 2020 season. Friday’s game preview will be a must-watch, and Sunday’s post game show will be worth every second you spend. It’s a busy week for us, and great information for you – let’s hook up! Ep: 279 – Lions Tik Tok Til Season Starts – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon to discuss the latest news as the Lions break training camp and get ready for the regular season. In just 10 days the Lions begin playing in anger, and there’s a lot of work yet to be done before the season starts. In this almost 2-hour episode we take you through everything in the Lions and NFC North to get you ready for the next 10 days. Detroit Lions Podcast – The Deck Hits Pay Dirt The first thing we cover is Taylor Decker’s payday. The Lions and Taylor Decker locked down one of the best win-win deals you’ll see for a left tackle in the NFL today. We discuss the nuances about the deal and why it’s a signal for where this team is going not only in the front office, but with its coaches, and players. It’s one of the biggest stories of the off-season. We also talk about some changes at the fullback position, it looks like Nick Bawden’s injuries may have cost him a gig in the NFL in the near-term. We loved him, but Jason Cabinda has come on strong. Love to have competition between great players, as good as Bawden was – even if he hadn’t gotten injured, Cabinda was likely to grab that role. Next we talk about cut day, coming up on Saturday (just 2 days from when this was recorded), and speak through who we think some surprise victims might be. Cuts are always hard, especially for the players themselves. No one likes this, but this year has a bit of a silver lining for fans… The Detroit Lions are going to cut some very talented players who will find work elsewhere in the NFL. There have been years where this hasn’t happened. Another sign of the Lions improving and getting better at seeking and drafting talent. Matthew Stafford Is Going To Be The NFL MVP He said so, there’s really nothing else to cover there. Lastly we go in-depth on the Lions upcoming season and land with our predictions. Last year the Riz predicted a 5-win season, everyone hated him for hit. He even got hate mail – really bad hate mail. Where does he think the Lions come in this year? You have to listen to find out – what do you think this is, anyway? We also go around the division, discuss our the other teams in the NFC North have changed (for better or worse) and give you our predictions for each one. It’s a huge show, just what you need after a long off-season of eating junk food and wishing there were decent sports on TV. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 278 – Lions Camp Steps Up! – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon to discuss the latest news from Lions Training Camp. Who is playing where, whose showing up, and what the team might look like for game one. We also do a deep dive on Riz’s 2019 season re-watch series and talk about players who may or may not live up to the hype they’ve gotten so far. We also do a quick take on whether Earl Thomas should be in the Lions future and talk Covid 19 testing blunders and a lack of fans at the first two Lions games. Tons of stuff packed into this hour-long show. Detroit Lions Podcast – Camp Is Hot! We get the Hockenson hype train moving with help from an Erik Schlitt article about his performance at camp – great news for last year’s first round pick. Also we talk about Logan Stenberg, what his success and the plan around him means for GM Bob Quinn and Coach Matt Patricia. We couldn’t help but give love to coach Hank Fraley for his great work at the Senior Bowl and with the work he’s putting in with the Lions offensive line. We love Hank – he is an absolute gem for the Lions. We talk Jonah Jackson, Jamaal “Spiro” Agnew, Matt Prater, and wrap it up with a report on the Lions cancelled practice day. Ep: 277 – Lions Camp ft. Jim Brandstatter – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case and Jeff Risdon to discuss the first week of padded practice for the Lions 2020 Training Camp. Ahead of that we are joined by current University of Michigan radio voice and former voice of Detroit Lions Radio Network, Jim Brandstatter. We talk about the cancellation of the Big 10 season, and what it means for the players and fans. Jim tells us what a spring season would mean to players, fans, and the NFL Draft. A great conversation with half of the dynamic duo that was Dan Miller and Jim Brandstatter. He’s always worth a listen. Detroit Lions Podcast – Talking NFL Football After Jim’s guest appearance, we move on to break down everything that’s happened in Lions Training Camp so far. We start with Jeff Okudah’s performance, The amazing combination of Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, and Matthew Stafford. They are looking elite and possibly unstoppable. Definitely a group for Lions opponents to look out for this season. We also talk about the huge RB stable the Lions are currently fielding. Quick hint: Deandre Swift is just plain killing it. Kerryon Johnson is taking the majority of the reps, and also looking good, but we are likely positioned as good as we’ve been at this position since the Barry Sanders years. We also discuss the great work that Jonah Jackson has been putting in. This is the kind of work that wins men starting spots on NFL rosters. The last of our camp coverage discusses injuries so far and what they might mean. From there we take a look at the division and what it might mean for the Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia era. What will it take for them to stay? We answer that and more on this week’s show. Making Your Fantasies Real We’ve launched the sign-up for our annual Fantasy Football Leagues. Ep: 276 – Lions Ramping Up – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case to discuss everything Lions just before they put the pads on and the real work begins. Of course we cover the COVID Cats™ situation and let you know who’s on the reserve list and who has opted out now that opt-outs are finalized. We get into some of the national love that the Lions and the WRs are getting, and we switch gears for a moment to lament the state of sports and particularly football. Tavon Wilson is out, Duron Harmon is in, we tell you what to feel and what it means at that position. We also discuss College Football, the Big 10 shutting down, and what it means to the NFL. Detroit Lions Podcast – Now It’s Getting Good We had a massive equipment upgrade go down over the last week, there were a few glitches along the way (most for the video folks on YouTube), but all in all we’re happy and you’ll be noticing those upgrades over the course of the next few weeks. Also, its finally time to start getting real news. It’s been a tough off-season this year with very little information out there of value to work with. We’re so happy to get back into our DLP groove again as things start moving forward with padded practice and training camp underway for real starting this coming week. Thanks for hanging with us through these few lean news months! Hopefully we kept you entertained in the interim. Ep: 275 – Lions Sick Cat Scare – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case *and* Jeff Risdon for a great show breaking down everything Lions – and there is a ton of breaking news. We only have an hour this week so it’s a pretty “bang bang” show – there’s a lot going on and we’ll need you to keep up. Detroit Lions Podcast – Insert Preseason Here We start off with a walk through The Covid Cats™ list – which is our term for the Detroit Lions Covid Reserve List. There are some additions, some subtractions, and some very interesting news that just broke an hour prior to the show. We’ll go over it all, including reactions from players’ wives and more. Whenever Covid is there, there’s guaranteed to be frustration. We cover the Opt Out List as well, the deadline to sign up, and what it means for the Lions at this point. So far, so good. The Lions Signed Daylan Mack from Baltimore and Chris and Jeff go back and review their Senior Bowl ratings for him while also discussing why he’s free and what to expect from him in Detroit. We also discuss the possibility of re-working the schedule. While the NFL hasn’t been forthcoming with any of their work in this area, we discuss what we would be doing in the background if we were the league. Finally, we give a nod to Jamie Samuelson, a man who was an absolute credit to the Detroit Sports Writer scene. A stand-up guy who was loved by all and taken from us far too quickly. Go get tested folks. For everything, it’s sad that we lose such amazing people so soon. Do everything you can not to be one of them. Hearts, thoughts, and prayers out to Jamie’s family – here’s to hoping they can heal and find peace. Making Your Fantasies Real We’ve launched the sign-up for our annual Fantasy Football Leagues. Ep: 274 – Lions Training Camp Begins – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined again by Jeff Risdon to fill you in on the start of training camp. This year is different than years past for obvious reasons, so the guys figured it would be best to help everyone understand the new process. We also discuss the NFL Top 100 list, Covid Cats™, Opt Outs, Free Agency, and take you on a quick dash around the division. Detroit Lions Podcast Ready For Football We walk you through The Covid Cats™ list – which is our term for the Detroit Lions Covid Reserve List. We’ll help you understand who is on it, why, what to expect while they’re on it, and what it takes to get off the list. We also discuss how this provides players and clubs some needed flexibility considering the surrounding circumstances. We also talk about who has opted out of the season so far and what that means for both the player and the team. After that we dive into the precautions that are being taken by the Lions under the NFL regulations and the ones they self-prescribed that are above and beyond. The Lions are one of the first 4 teams to have their plan approved by the NFL, and it shows as to why. It’s a well thought out plan that considers a number of factors. From there we get into the NFL Top 100 vote and why the Lions not having anyone listed in the top 100 is a galaxy brain move. The salary cap and spending has become a question for a few people and we go into Bob Quinn’s explanation as to why we aren’t spending like some people believe we should be. Lastly, Riz takes us on a quick jaunt, “Around the Division!” Making Your Fantasies Real We’ve launched the sign-up for our annual Fantasy Football Leagues. Ep: 273 – Lighting Off Lions Camp – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is rejoined by Case for what looks to be our last show before the start of Lions Training Camp. Case finally shook himself free of the shackles of his job and was able to do some podcasting. Always great to have him and his insights. Detroit Lions Podcast Football News We cover a lot of ground in almost an hour and a half of podcasting today. First we take a look at some insider info on college football after Chris was able to glean some info from his Georgia Tech player pal. Small team practices started this week, so keep your eyes open. The ACC should be announcing their plans very shortly, we’ll let you know when we do. Chris decided to give Dean Blandino an unexpected call to get his thoughts on what the refs might look like since there is no preseason. He discussed it in depth on his great podcast, “Good Calls With Dean Blandino”. No matter your thoughts on Dean, he does a great show. Either way, he shares some excellent insight on his thoughts on how the refs might have early trouble without the ability to have a preseason this year. Good stuff. Always fun to give someone a surprise call on the show. We also discuss the conversation that has been happening around a rating that put Bob Quinn at the bottom of the NFL GM barrel. We tend to disagree, but history is written by the victors, so the story has yet to be fully told. Also, Eric Ebron proves that not only can’t catch, but he can’t math either. We have fun at his expense (again) and then ask for callers to share their least favorite Lions of all time. That wound up being pretty fun. By the way, click here for all you’ll ever need when responding to Ebron on Twitter. We also get into an excellent piece that Chris Burke found a great piece by Warren Sharp of Sharp Football discussing a tendency of the Detroit Lions offense in 2019. One that should have been adjusted for, yet wasn’t for 9 games straight. It may have had a hand in the Lions difficulties in finishing out games. We discuss, you get to determine how you feel. Ep: 272 – Lions Talk With Dan Miller – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff Risdon are back again to help you in these bleak times for Lions news. Between the virus and the “dead season” there isn’t a lot going on – lucky for you we don’t sit on our laurels, we bring you all of the interesting things. We first start by discussing the possibility of the College Football season being delayed until the spring. Conversely, Chris has a neighbor who is playing for Georgia Tech (jersey number 81 this year for those interested) who started training with the team on Monday. There are competing narratives going on, and the reality is probably that they are preparing for two different eventualities. Then, we are joined by Fox2 Detroit Sports Director and voice of the Detroit Lions on the Detroit Lions Radio Network, Dan Miller. We spend 45 minutes with Dan, he takes calls, talks Lions draft, the virus, our amazing cinematic triumph with Dean Blandino, and whatever else crosses our minds. You’ll get to see that Dan’s reputation as one of the very best in Detroit isn’t just about his abilities as a broadcaster or play-by-play person, he is genuinely one of the finest people you’ll ever meet. Ep: 271 – Lions Slaying The Preseason – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff Risdon get together with the latest Lions info including the news that the preseason has been cut in half. We also take a look at Darius Slay’s recent comments about the Lions not concealing their defensive secondary intentions. We cover the status of the supplemental draft, and more. Detroit Lions Podcast – Plenty of Lions Content Here Looks like the preseason has been cut in half for the upcoming NFL season. The first and last games of the preseason will be removed from the schedule which leaves the Lions playing the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. There are a number of considerations as a result – including, how will less preseason football affect the quality of regular season play? How could this affect injuries? We answer these questions and more in our coverage. We also go into listener questions about the ceiling that the defense might have based on the changes and upgrades this offseason, and we also discuss Jahlani Tavai‘s shoulder injury and how things look there. After listener questions we chat about the comments Darius slay recently made in response to Brian Baldinger‘s conversation with Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers. It likely a lot less to worry about than most information and content-starved writers would want you to think, and we’ll help put context around it. Remember, it pays to keep a level head. Things are rarely as bad (or good) as we are told they are. It’s just more information to add to what we already have. Ep: 270 – Lions New Owner & Our 5th Anniversary – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff Risdon break down the latest Lions news including the 47 different angles of new ownership. We also celebrated of our fifth year of incredible, high-brow podcasting. We also discuss the Lions salary cap situation, what it means strategically, and what to expect from the team on a go forward basis. Detroit Lions Podcast – Still Reporting On The Ford Family While we’re sad to see Martha Ford leaving her post as Principal Owner of the Detroit Lions, we are at the same time happy to see Sheila Ford Hamp step up to the position she’s been transitioning into for a while. She has a lot to offer the team and has been quite involved (by all reports) for a while now. We talk about Martha’s time as owner and give her high marks for what she has done to transform the team and its identity. Her time at the helm will be remembered well. We discuss where we would have liked to see Ford Hamp take action upon taking the reins and what she could do in the near future to seal her position and put her stamp on the team. In the end we discuss the effect of the move and share our thoughts on some of the fan feedback that’s been posted in various forums. Locking Down Our Left Guard Jonah Jackson has finally signed his contract and is officially a Detroit Lions player. This is a great pick that will have an impact, so it’s good to lock him down and have the paperwork done. Also, we discuss Training Camp, what it could look like, what to expect, and who is making the decisions. Ep: 269 – Lions Light, We’re Four No More – The Detroit Lions Podcast

Ep: 267 – Lions Passing Love Notes – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Jeff Risdon bring you the latest Lions news and insights in our inimitable style. This episode is full of insights and the use of big words. This is Case’s fault directly after he dropped our new favorite word, ‘obfusticate’. We cover the NFL’s rule changes, Jamaal Agnew’s position switch, Kenny Golladay’s PFF love and more – including a new “ride the fence” drop for Case. Detroit Lions Podcast – It’s really your best bet Do you remember the 10 second run-off in the Atlanta game? Unfortunately, we all do. Case makes the case that it likely wasn’t as impactful as people think. Chris makes the case that Case is an unmitigated ass. Can you tell that Chris wrote the show notes this time? Either way, Chris is right. We also talk about Frank Ragnow and Taylor Decker and what they mean to the Lions line and what the influences on Decker’s contract are. Check Us Out On YouTube! Detroit Lions Podcast – The Only Thing You Should Put In Your Ears First we want to thank all of our listeners for giving us a week off. It’s the first week that Chris has had off in a long time – he needed it! It was great to come back and cover ground that we missed in that time. Chris and Case talk a little bit about the team and how far it’s come under Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn. How the culture seems to have finally rounded the corner and changed in their favor. Ep: 265 – Lions Post-Draft Looks – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by the inimitable Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to get Riz’s take on the Lions draft performance. We also discuss the Lions UDFA pool and some of the amazing signings Bob Quinn pulled off to put this team together. We pay particular attention to Julian Okwara, Jonah Jackson, Logan Stenberg, Jason Huntley, and John Penisini from the draft. We follow that up with a deep dive on Hunter Bryant from the UDFA pool – a guy Riz thinks could end up our number two tight end. From there, we do a pass around the division and give our initial thoughts on how the rest of the NFC North performed in the 2020 NFL Draft. Detroit Lions Podcast – Safer In Your Ears Now that we’ve recovered from the draft party, it’s a good time to re-energize and step back to look at what just happened in the colder light of day. This episode does just that and Riz does a great job of bringing reality to the party. In this case, reality is a good place to be. Ep: 264 – Detroit Lions Draft Evaluation – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down the results of the Detroit Lions 2020 NFL Draft. Bob Quinn likely had his best draft ever as General Manager of the Detroit Lions. There were points where we were dumbfounded by his moves – but only because he was picking up talent in places we totally didn’t expect. Mr. Quinn did an excellent job of finding the best players available to fill key areas of need. We think that’s what made this draft so darn good for the Lions. While unlikely, it is possible that every player the Lions drafted could play this year – that’s a great draft. We even think there’s a UDFA who is almost guaranteed a roster position. Well done, Mr. Quinn. Very well done. Detroit Lions Podcast Live NFL Draft Party – Coming to your Podcast Feed This year’s NFL Draft Party live stream was a smashing success. We had an absolute riot doing it, and the feedback has been nothing short of excellent. We’ll make those shoes available via the podcast feed over the next few days. Ep: 262 – Is It Tua Late For The Lions? – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and they discuss all the Lions and NFL news of the week including the many angles of Tua Tagovailoa, the possible demise of the XFL, and Chris’s deep draft crush. Detroit Lions Podcast Still Kicking It Live Another live stream broadcast, but this time without taking phone calls, the guys discuss the many ways in which Tua Tagovailoa could impact the Lions draft strategy and the draft overall. Everything Lions draft depends on who pulls the trade trigger on a quarterback, we dive into who might be ready to make that move, and why. We also talk about how the trade frenzy might put the Lions in the catbird seat and the limit to what they’d give up. After all, trading down too far could spell the end of the current regime. From there we dig into Chris’s later round draft crush KJ Hill. Chris put together a video of the footage he shot of KJ at the Senior Bowl, and it’s well worth your time. KJ will sparkle as a slot receiver in the NFL – whoever gets him will be very happy with their selection. Check Us Out On YouTube! Detroit Lions Podcast Brings The 2020 Draft Alive We’ve put together the best and brightest minds in the Detroit Lions space to come together on a consensus 2020 NFL mock draft. We work through each pick and force each host to justify their selection and argue for their pick until the group comes to an agreement. Ep: 260 – Detroit Lions Talk With Scott Bischoff – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by WJR Radio Podcast co-host Scott Bischoff to break down the latest and greatest Lions news. Detroit Lions Podcast Kills The Jarrad Davis Trade Rumor Chris and Scott shut down the trade talk around Jarrad Davis shortly after Lions GM Bob Quinn quickly reacted to those rumors the same way. Evidently being cooped up inside is driving some members of the media a little loopy and they’re making things up out of whole cloth. We also discuss Sam Martin’s move to join Jeff Driskel at the Denver Broncos. Add a punter to the Lions list of needs. Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly are two of the most generous people in Detroit and we discuss just how great having them in our lives really is. We also talk about the inevitable place in the future when we have to move on from Matthew and how difficult it’s going to be. There’s also the whole free agency, trade, and Darius Slay thing to discuss. We cover it all with Scott’s special angles and insights. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 259 – 2020 Detroit Lions Free Agency and Draft – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case and Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to break down the latest Detroit Lions Free Agency moves. We weigh in on Darius Slay’s recent comments, and talk about a shift to 4-3 defense while taking calls. Detroit Lions Podcast Gets Slayed By Darius Slay Literally 2 hours after our last show in which we praised Darius Slay’s maturity, he proved us wrong. Slay opened up about a situation early in his relationship with Coach Patricia in which Coach used some profanity. Slay took it very personally, when it was likely meant differently. After that, Slay harbored his anger for at least two years before letting loose on the radio and taking a few shots at Coach Patricia on the way out the door. Effectively, he set the place on fire as he left. Obviously nothing good could come of Slay’s comments, but here we are. The Detroit Lions Podcast also discusses Free Agency signings, the possibility of moving to a 4-3 defense, and take your calls! Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 258 – Detroit Lions First 24 Hours Of Free Agency – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to break down the first 24 hours in the Detroit Lions Free Agency moves. Interesting pick-ups, trades, drops, and more. This Free Agency brings a little taste of everything for Bob Quinn’s Detroit Lions. Detroit Lions Podcast Analyzes Each Player We take an in-depth look at each player, including a Risdon favorite, Chase Daniel. We bring the broad information you are looking for on OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai and his 5-year $45 million deal. Chris blows the doubters away by pronouncing “Big V’s” name correctly every time… Jamie Collins was a huge signing at LB and with the addition of Duron Harmon, lovers of Isaiah Simmons are going to have to adjust to him landing elsewhere in the draft. We discuss the pickup of Desmond Trufant, and how he makes a top-tier #2 cornerback. The team also landed Danny Shelton, Nick Williams, Jayron Kearse and we discuss each. It looks like Bob Quinn has set this team up for picking an Ohio State defensive player in round 1 of this year’s NFL Draft. On the other side of the equation, the biggest news is that the Lions traded Darius Slay away. In the end it’s better that he’s no longer a Detroit Lion – see all the recent news about him. From there, we discuss Graham Glasgow, Jeff Driskel (both to the Broncos). J.D. McKissic and Logan Thomas heading to Washington, and A’Shawn Robinson heading to the Rams. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 257 – Lions Last Stop Ahead Of Free Agency – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case make the last stop ahead of Free Agency for the Detroit Lions. The boys take a look at a glaring non-signing in Graham Glasgow. Why might this be the case? What have we heard and why might this be happening to a really good player? Also, Chris and Case discuss the most overpaid player going into 2020 free agency. Where are we with him, and what do we expect this year? We’ve got you covered with answers to those questions and more. Detroit Lions Podcast Analyzes Free Agency We take a good dive into free agency with hard looks at Chris Harris and Andrew Billings amongst others. Ep: 255 – Lions And Stafford Trade Bunk – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case get together again to bring you the latest Lions news, and this week we take a harder look at fake news. This is a somewhat shortened episode due to Chris and Case traveling this week. Worry not, we have more of these quick takes coming your way this week. Detroit Lions Podcast Says, “No” Matthew Stafford wanting to be traded? Please. How dumb do they think Lions fans are? Evidently we have our share of them. Right after we recorded, Kelly Stafford came out on her Instagram and clearly stated that they aren’t going anywhere. We also cover what a Detroit rebuild would look like. Down to how the organization would undertake such an operation. Again, its not happening barring a massive tragedy, and we don’t see that coming. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 254 – Former Detroit Lions Head Coach Wayne Fontes – The Detroit Lions Podcast

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case get together to bring you the latest Detroit Lions news, particularly about the Detroit Lions organization’s options with cornerback Darius Slay. There are a number of options, but this is a case where the Lions hold most of the cards. How this plays out will be interesting, and we’ll both walk you through the options, and take calls as we work through the possibilities. We also talk Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the effect of the CBA signed 10 years ago on the Detroit Lions. Case brings back a third of the ‘Around The Division’ segment, and it’s probably worth noting that we are joined by Jeff Risdon to interview former Detroit Lions head coach Wayne Fontes. Yes, Coach Wayne Fontes. Coach Fontes Coach Fontes gives us surprising insight into what it was like to coach a player like Barry Sanders. He also discusses his relationship with the Ford family and debunks any idea that there might be a rift. He waxes poetic about the men that played for him, and reinforces the idea that Coach Fontes deserved his players’ support. Chris Spielman, Kevin Glover, so many great players come up in the conversation… If you only listen to a single episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, this is the one. Coach Fontes deserves your time. Ep: 250 – First Look At Free Agency, New DC, Senior Bowl, & More – The Detroit Lions Podcast

E

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is once again joined by his old friend Case. Some might remember him fondly as the co-host of the show. Case comes back strong to make up for his absence by conducting our first dive into Free Agency. We call it, “a deep dive into the shallow end with Case”. He does a good job walking through the positions and helping folks start their thinking about where the Lions might be heading. Of course Free Agency moves will help dictate what happens in the draft. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Defensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach First, some really good news. It looks like Quarterback Coach Sean Ryan will remain with the team. This is great news. He’s a hot commodity in the NFL and sure to find a nice promotion next year. Having him in Detroit doing the things that make him so great is a huge benefit for the Lions. The news that made more headlines is the hiring of new Defensive Coordinator, Cory Undlin from the Eagles. Responses have been all over the board and speculation has been widespread about what it means. We take a look at some data and wind up with a more measured response to the hire. We follow up with some great social media posts (Reddit and Twitter) that we wanted to use to showcase the great stuff that people are putting together. Cory Undlin has a lot to offer and could wind up being a masterful choice. My expectation is that we will end up feeling as good about the Cory Undlin hire as we do about Darrell Bevell. We then go into the Senior Bowl and start sharing some of the great stuff we’ll have for you from Mobile. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel and enable notifications to see some of the best interviews and coverage you’ll see all week. We’re working hard to provide the best Lions coverage you’ll get from the Senior Bowl. Buckle up! Check Us Out On YouTube!
