In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman are back and ready to react to the result of the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys game today. We’re here to help everyone with the day’s results whether Lions fans are celebrating, or need a therapy session after the game. Detroit Lions Podcast Eyes The Dallas Cowboys Many Detroit Lions fans decided the bye week was a great time to walk away from the team and reset their expectations. Maybe re-prioritize the team, get some family time in, and maybe even hit the cider mill to grab some donuts and cider. A quick week slides bye, and here we are back at Detroit Lions game day, facing off against another opponent, and ready to be disappointed. The Dallas Cowboys are at home, getting Dak Prescott back, likely to change things up on defense, and are licking their chops to finally face a defense with problems like the Detroit Lions squad. Many Lions fans have already written this game off and are looking toward a game they think the Lions might have a better chance of winning. This is exactly when the Detroit Lions strike and put together a game in which they otherwise had been written off. The Lions have a top 5 scoring offense in the NFL, and after the Patriots game, teams think they have the Lions offense figured out. As a team that has low expectations from fans, a loss is just “par for the course” SOL etc. A win? The fan base would be revitalized, the SOL crew would be quieted, and the conversation will be about whether the bye week was the moment that cemented the “greatness” of the Detroit Lions and was the launch pad for their success going forward. In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff return with the latest news and rumors about the Detroit Lions. The bye week is over and the Detroit Lions are back on the field this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas has Dak Prescott returning to the field after being sidelined with a significant thumb injury. With the Lions heading to Dallas to take on a hungry Prescott, they have a lot to prove to fans and ownership after their performance so far in the 2022 NFL season. Detroit Lions Podcast Looking For Light From an injury perspective, the Lions appear to be getting a few players back from injury this week, which will definitely provide a lift for a team that desperately right now. A win for the Detroit Lions will go a long way to turn around the current perspective on the team and coaching staff. There are reports of the coaching staff’s seat’s being “on fire” right now, but seeing everything that’s going right with this team and how the roster has turned around so far, its far too early to pull the trigger. The Detroit Lions face the New England Patriots for the first time in the 2022 NFL season and the Lions defense had what can only be considered one of their worst games of the Dan Campbell era last week against the Seattle Seahawks. When analyzing how the Lions can improve their defense, all eyes point to first round pick, Aidan Hutchinson. Detroit Lions Podcast Design Aidan Hutchinson Improvement Aidan Hutchinson could potentially be hindered by the Detroit Lions playing him out of a 3-point stance. The Detroit Lions scheme is designed for Hutchinson to play out of a 3-point stance. Scott Bischoff looks at what it might look like for Aidan Hutchinson to move out a little wider and line up in a 2-point stance. He talks about how this might help Hutchinson get to the quarterback more often and be more disruptive in the opposing backfield. Scott also discusses what this means to the Detroit Lions defensive scheme and how they may be able to adjust to allow for Hutchinson to work in this way and improve his effectiveness. In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff are back together again with our first show after the start of the 2022 Detroit Lions NFL season. The Lions had a heck of a game against the Eagles, and showed the grit that coach Dan Campbell continues to preach. This week Chris and Jeff get together to discuss the latest from the Detroit Lions ahead of the start of the 2022 NFL season and the final episode of Hard Knocks. The Detroit Lions just faced one of the most difficult days of the year for a front office that actually cares about its players. The Lions cut their roster down to the NFL mandated 53 players as well as assembled their practice squad of reserve players. As Tony Soprano would say, “whatta’ ya gonna do?” Detroit Lions Podcast OTAs are Underway The Detroit Lions OTA have started, Jeff has been there as a witness and will bring back what he’s seen so far from Aidan Hutchinson and the rest of the team with his look at how things are shaping up so far. Remember – even Chris would look like a first overall pick in shorts, there’s a long way to go from here… Some injury information, Jameson Williams is there everyday, dying to get to work as he heals, as are the rest of the players we are looking to see make their return from injury this year. Jeff Okudah is even doing solo drills. Lots of great stories to keep an eye on this year. The Detroit Lions made a move on the waiver wire and picked up DL John Cominsky, who was quite a hot commodity. Chris and Jeff will discuss his addition to the team, as well as what to look for from him. Also, we’ll discuss Ifeatu Melifonwu taking snaps at the safety position. In this week’s show Chris and Jeff get together to break down the latest from Detroit Lions Rookie Camp, game schedule, St. Jude Charity Fundraiser, and more! There have been a number of great Detroit Lions press conferences over the course of the last week. The Detroit Lions draft picks have been at the mic, a number of vets, and we’ve seen how the players are moving in their walk-throughs. We’ll have our first impressions ready to share with you and a few predictions based on what we’ve seen so far. Detroit Lions Podcast – Rookies Are Checking All The Boxes Great work by the rookies so far, and great attitudes all around. There were some SOL fans talking about Jameson Williams not being happy to be with the team immediately following the draft, but he’s put those dopey takes straight to bed. The Super Bowl is over, Matthew Stafford finally won himself a championship, it wasn’t in Detroit, so let’s move on. Now begins the biggest season of hope for the Detroit Lions, the offseason. With Free Agency coming followed by the 2022 NFL Draft, we decide to rank the Detroit Lions offseason needs in order from biggest need down to where they are most positionally secure. The 2022 off-season has begun for the Detroit Lions. Recently it was announced that the Lions will be coaching the American team at the 2022 Senior Bowl. The 2021 NFL Season has ended for the Lions. The Detroit Lions met the Green Bay Packers for the second time in the 2021 NFL season, this time at Ford Field. Both teams have pretty much set their respective positions in the playoffs or draft, so this game is about something a little different. After a close loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Detroit Lions are watching the season wind down with only two wins notched. The decimated Lions travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Lions have achieved in a strange way this season. Playing poorly against teams that they were supposed to beat while playing tight and even beating teams that were supposed to crush them. Its a sort of Yin-Yang, push-pull, giving fans “the ole in and out” (hat-tip: Clockwork Orange). Detroit Lions Podcast Reacts This has been a season in which the team has built a level of confidence that far outstrips their record. They’ve proved supremely competent at building a strong culture amongst players, coaches, and in the front office that will definitely carry this team forward. I don’t think the NFL has seen a team play as hard and as “bought in” as the Detroit Lions in the 2021 NFL season. Against the Falcons this week, the Lions are without starting quarterback Jared Goff and running back D’Andre Swift for the fourth week in a row. Jamaal Williams will be back and Tim Boyle is set to be the team’s signal caller. After the Detroit Lions convincing win over Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Interestingly, the Cardinals have never beaten Jared Goff, so he’s kept that streak intact. Now, its time to look ahead to a game many had penciled in as another potential win for the Lions. As fate would have it, not so fast there, Lions fan. The 2021 NFL season is full of twists, turns, and jump scares the likes of which no one could have predicted. Detroit Lions Podcast Previews The Atlanta Falcons Jared Goff was put on the Covid/Reserve list immediately following his stellar performance against the Arizona Cardinals. Well, its happened. The Lions have beaten a team 5 or more games over .500 for the first time since most of you started watching football. Not only did the Detroit Lions beat the Arizona Cardinals, they pummeled them into submission. No one in the NFL expected this to happen . Well, Chris laid out this exact scenario in the Game Preview show with Tony Ortiz, but other than that, no one else did. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Quick Turn This Detroit Lions team is sneaky good. Looking at the team’s record one wouldn’t think so, maybe if you see the win against Arizona, but one could write that off as “any given Sunday”, but with the difference of 4 field goals, the Lions would be second in the division right now. Some are going to lament not drafting first overall, but this team might be a whole lot better than where they are drafting already. Couple that with the capital they have available in the draft over the next two years, the money they’ve cleared from the cap this year, and all of a sudden free agency and the draft could push this team to new heights. The rest of the NFL might just lament a team as sneaky good as the Detroit Lions having this kind of draft capital and position. Likely one of the top candidates to go from worst to first in 2022…. As the walking wounded Detroit Lions limp toward the end of the 2021 NFL season, they meet one of the top teams in the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals, at Ford Field. This is one of those games where the Lions have no expectation of coming away victorious. Yet, their season has been one where fans can always expect the unexpected. Could this be, “Any Given Sunday” for the Lions? Detroit Lions Podcast Takes Stock Knowing the team is in a rebuild and then sacrificing over $113 million of their roster to injuries and dead cap, it was a year of austerity beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Yet in a season with just a single win, the Lions have managed to outperform expectations. With a couple of different bounces of the ball, they could be a 5 win team.
