We decided to cover some of the more pressing topics first. Don’t worry, we’ll give you a good heaping dose of Lions 2020 NFL Draft strategy. In the last portion of the show. First, Chris takes a rare “I told you so” moment to recount how he predicted Paul Pasqualoni’s departure would go. Of course that leads to a discussion about the Lions strategy around who they want as Defensive Coordinator. Chris asks why everyone thinks that Matt Patricia wants to run the defense. He brings great points about what Patricia might be looking for and why it could be different than the hive mind thinks. This hire will reveal a lot about the Lions organization and the direction the team will head for the 2020 season. We also look at the rest of the coaching staff, including the possibility of the Lions losing Sean Ryan. The Detroit Lions Podcast also happily announces the promotion of Hank Fraley. He’ll be coaching the offensive line going forward which is a good step for him and the Lions. We sneak in some big news about the Detroit Lions Podcast garnering a spot on Radio Row at the 2020 Senior Bowl. Ep: 248 – Lions Close The Books On 2019 – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris pulls out all the stops and brings you the show on his own. Chris flies solo to wrap up our post game coverage of the Detroit Lions 2019 season. It’s just Chris and the callers, discussing another near miss, this time against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field. We also look ahead to the offseason and begin to share some of our plans on what’s ahead for the show. Detroit Lions Podcast Closing The Books On 2019 This was a game where across the board fans seemed ready to lose at the outset. After all there were draft picks at stake. There was a lot to gain by losing. By halftime, folks were ready to join the Lions players and coaches in celebrating a win over the Packers. Instead we lost our second game of the season to Green Bay. A most interesting stat, the Lions lost 2 games to them this season and were behind for exactly zero seconds total. It’s always something in this series. It feels like there can’t be other ways to be on the short end of this match-up. Longtime fans know that of course there are. Chris takes your calls to the Detroit Lions Podcast throughout the show. We work through what we saw from the team this year and where we need to go. We also discuss what we should expect in the offseason. From there we start letting folks know about our plans for the Shrine Game, Senior Bowl, and Combine coverage for 2020. There’s more to come, but we want folks to consume everything in digestible bites. It’s going to be a lot. Ep: 247 – Quinn and Patricia Locked. Martha Says No Sale – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff “The Riz” Risdon are together again to discuss the latest breaking Detroit Lions news. It was a busy news day for the team, so we go in hot. Detroit Lions Podcast Weighs In First News broke today about a small presser held by Martha Ford in which she announce the continuation of the Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia regime for the 2020 season. She spoke to the need for some new assistants and the need to be a playoff contender. We dive into what this means for the team and evaluate the decision. We also discuss how this situation might affect the actions of Quinn and Patricia going forward. What it bodes for the team and what to look forward for the rest of the season. In other breaking news, Mrs. Ford and her daughter Sheila made it clear that the team is not for sale. Not to Jeff Bezos, not to anyone. The Detroit Lions Podcast discusses how important it was for Sheila Ford Hamp to step forward and make a statement. There was a message sent in that action, and we discuss what the message behind the message was. We cover the Lions injury report, take our first peek at the draft, and even take some of your phone calls. One of our favorite topics makes its first appearance for 2020, HBO’s “Hard Knocks”. We discuss the possibility of them coming to Detroit next year and why it might be more likely than folks think. The Pro Bowl announcements were made, and we discuss the Lions situation. Frank Ragnow snubbed, Darius Slay in, and Matthew Stafford and Kenny Golladay as alternates. Finally, we look ahead to the game against the Denver Broncos. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 246 – Lions Look to The Tampa Bay Buccaneers – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case are together again to share the latest news and opinion on the Detroit Lions. The team is in an interesting position. Rather than just lament the team’s woes, we take a look at what this team needs to improve. This episode is going to set up a number of offseason conversations and help people start looking at options to get better. We also go in-depth on what a team in the Lions position should do with their remaining games. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Tampa Bay Buccaneers We also spend some time talking about the upcoming game against the Bucs, not to give it away, but we feel like it’s a game that’s going to come down to defense. More specifically, how each team’s offense wears out their defense by not being on the field. It’s a good discussion and should help prep folks for what’s to come. We also take a sneak peek at the draft, free agency, and the salary cap situation. These all feed into what might be the grander strategy about building this team. The Detroit Lions Podcast also takes a look at Taylor Decker and Frank Ragnow and their production this year. Both may be doing much better than you think. A couple of bright spots on a team that really needs them. We also cover Fantasy Football and laugh at Chris’s over-reaction to the idea that the Lions haven’t truly replaced Calvin Johnson since he retired. Good job, /u/CalvinGolladay – you got him good. Ep: 245 – Detroit Lions & Minnesota Vikings Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by YouTube Slowlights hero, Andy “Sandman” Morse for a tough show about the Detroit Lions to the Minnesota Vikings. As always we take your calls, and this week the callers bring a lot to the show. Don’t miss Ken’s call at the end – you might think the show is ending, but don’t tune out, you’d be all wrong to miss that call. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks About The Late Season Preseason This was finally a game where everyone seemed ready to accept that the team that we were putting on the field wasn’t healthy enough to compete against one of the better teams in the NFL. While it always stinks to lose to a division rival, this one didn’t hurt quite as much as they have recently. We’ve decided that the 2019 season is the Lions opportunity to take stock of the team and assess who their mid and lower tier players are. “Live fire” exercises are so much more telling than watching guys in shorts. We also discuss a little bit about Lions fandom and what motivates people to watch a team that is likely to continue doing poorly this year. Chris tells a funny story about escalation of commitment, and more. We don’t excuse the team or its leadership, but we make talking about the Lions a lot more fun than anyone else. There’s something good for the soul in that… Don’t Miss Us On YouTube If you prefer the video version of the podcast, check out the Detroit Lions Podcast YouTube Channel here. Ep: 244 – Lions Look to The Chicago Bears – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case are back together again to take a heartfelt look at the situation in Allen Park and try to help folks come to an understanding of what exactly we are looking at. There has been a convergence of many things to hit the team this year. We’re here to try and help Detroit Lions fans make sense of it all. We also review the Redskins game and what we can learn from that. From there, we revisit the Matthew Stafford situation and think about what the rest of the year holds for him. From there, we spend some time discussing what the rest of the year might look like for this team. Additionally, we try to help set expectations and give you some things to look for. Lastly, we look ahead to the game against Chicago in the annual Thanksgiving game. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Chicago Bears Before we get into the Bears, we have to take a brief stop on the Washington Redskins express. What a gut punch. A completely unexpected outcome presented itself to a Lions fan base that were looking for something, anything, to hang their hat on. It didn’t come in Washington at the Redskins expense. Now the Lions face a short week ahead of the Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears. The Detroit Lions Podcast takes some time to talk about where the team, the fans, and the coaching staff are today. We take a look at who else has been in similar circumstances, and we lament the loss of another year of possibility for our favorite football team. Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn focus heavily in this conversation, and rightfully so. Do they deserve all that they are getting right now? Not all of it. We’ll help sort wheat and chaff here. We also spend some time looking at what to look for from the team for the remainder of the year. There is a lot still to do, even if a playoff run isn’t part of that plan. It has nothing to do with playing for “pride” either. Finally we look ahead to the game against the Chicago Bears. The key thing is not to take the game too seriously this year. Don’t let the game ruin your Thanksgiving. Instead, have a robust discussion about politics with your uncle Eddie. That way you can still go home with the traditional heartburn, but it won’t be caused by your favorite football team this time! Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 243 – Lions Looking For Driskmagic Against Washington Redskins – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Managing Editor of LionsWire.com Jeff Risdon. Together they break down the latest Lions news and look at the team in ways you never imagined. Of course they start out by discussing the game against the Dallas Cowboys. Of course they share the tale of the great suite experience at Ford Field provided by Sandman. There’s even video documentation of the fun. From there we discuss Jarrad Davis’s improved performance this week, and take on the subject of how far away the wins are. We also contemplate what it might mean to sit Matthew Stafford for the remainder of the year. Lastly, we take a look ahead to the game against the Washington Redskins. Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Dallas Cowboys The Detroit Lions stumbled against the Dallas Cowboys. In a game where the Lions (by all accounts) should have been blown out, the Detroit Lions second string played to within a single score in their loss. Fans started the game expecting a spanking, and wound up frustrated by a team that lost the game by a single score. Fans were surprised by backup quarterback Jeff Driskel’s performance in this game and we’ve decided we’re ready for some Driskmagic against the Washington Redskins. We also look at Jarrad Davis’s turnaround in this game and talk about why he might just pop again next week. Then the boys ask the question, “how far away are the wins?” It’s a great conversation about many aspects of the team that folks need to contemplate as they assess their favorite football team. Finally we look ahead to the game against the Redskins on the Detroit Lions Podcast. Riz didn’t say it out loud, but he is sticking to his 5-win season prediction as we walk through the remainder of the schedule. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 242 – Lions Taking Stock Ahead Of The Dallas Cowboys – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Managing Editor of LionsWire.com Jeff Risdon. Together they break down the latest Lions news and look at the team in ways you never imagined. Of course they start out by announcing the winner of the Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys suite contest. They announce the winner for the Peter von Panda Sega retro gaming system. They discuss the Lions loss against the Chicago Bears, and players we may not see in 2020 in Detroit. We have a grand conversation about what the plan is in Detroit. What is the front office after, and where are they going? Matthew Stafford and his ailments become a topic of conversation, and we look ahead to the Dallas Cowboys. There’s still more from there. Chris and Riz on a roll, the best Lions content anywhere… Detroit Lions Podcast Dallas Cowboys Preview The Detroit Lions stumbled against the Chicago Bears last week. A surprise start by Jeff Driskel and a Matthew Stafford injury set the tone for the day. We discuss how well Driskel played (you may be surprised) and how close the Lions came to winning. Later in the show, we move the look forward to how the team may do against the Dallas Cowboys. There are a number of key pieces of the Lions puzzle to discuss, and we bring them to the fore. Who might not be on the team in 2020? What is the plan? What the heck is Bob Quinn doing? Matt Patricia? Is everything on fire, or going according to plan? The Detroit Lions Podcast takes a step back and helps you take a look at the big picture. We also squeeze a look at Matthew Stafford in with a conversation about Riz’s trip to his orthopedist. We cover these topics and all types of things in between in this week’s show – it’s a masterpiece. Check Us Out On YouTube! Ep: 241 – Detroit Lions & Chicago Bears Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by YouTube Slowlights hero, Andy “Sandman” Morse for a tough show about the Detroit Lions loss to the Chicago Bears. We also take your calls – and a one in particular asks about what has become of this Lions team. This was a game the Lions were expected to win, again. With late notice that Matthew Stafford wouldn’t play Jeff Driskel did his best to keep the Lions in the game until the very end. Detroit Lions Podcast Laments Lions Injuries Chris woke to the news of Matthew Stafford being out for today’s game and really wanted to go back to bed. This Lions team is built upon the idea that the offense will score enough point to win games. The entire team has been place upon Matthew Stafford’s shoulders. With an injury there, the Lions are in big trouble. Jeff Driskel did an admirable job leading the team on late notice, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the hapless Chicago Bears. The Lions basically populated the field with second stringers today. The team is made of critical injuries and walking wounded amongst its star players right now. The produce on the field showed just how bad things are. With this loss, it’s time to write off the Lions playoff hopes for the season, but there are a number of things this team can still accomplish. Ep: 240 – Detroit Lions Look To The Chicago Bears – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case discuss the latest Lions news, look ahead to the Chicago Bears, and bring out the details of a killer new contest. Get ready to win tickets to join Chris and Sandman in a suite for the Detroit Lions game against the Dallas Cowboys game. Detroit Lions Chicago Bears Preview The Detroit Lions stumbled against the Oakland Raiders last week, but this week presents a different opportunity. The Lions are facing a Chicago Bears team lead by the comically bad Mitch Trubisky. If ever there was a Lions and Bears game that the Lions should win – this is it. While the Bears have a solid defense. The rest of the team is limited by their quarterback. Remember the Bears hilariously traded a ton of draft capital to draft Mitch Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes. Chris and Case take a good look at the game and tell you what to expect. The boys also take a look at the playoff picture for the Lions. The game isn’t over yet, but there’s an uphill battle to get there. In this episode we review the team’s performance so far and compare this year vs. last. We also take a look at how the Lions have performed against common opponents in relation to their NFC North rivals. Interesting information, and good perspective on the team for folks who are feeling down right now. Big Contest For Patreon Subscribers! Ep: 239 – Detroit Lions & Oakland Raiders Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by YouTube Slowlights hero, Andy “Sandman” Morse for a tough show about the Detroit Lions loss to the Oakland Raiders. We also take your calls – and a number of them about what has become of this Lions team. In a game that lived up to its “shootout” billing, the Lions defense couldn’t get the stops they needed to outscore the Raiders. Detroit Lions Podcast Laments Opportunities Lost On a day when the rest of the NFC lost, the Lions proved again that they can’t seize the opportunity. Much like the game against the Green Bay Packers, the Lions couldn’t seal a win that was within their grasp. A win that would have changed the calculus on the season. This is a problem that has plagued this franchise for years, and Chris finds it absolutely inexplicable. The phone calls this week represent a disappointed fan base, and rightfully so. Chris reminds listeners that while the wins aren’t there, this team has been in every game until the very end this year – except one. It is an improvement over last year, just not as much as we wanted from this team. Things are getting to a point where folks need those W’s to believe – and Coach Patricia and Bob Quinn need to start delivering. Ep: 238 – Detroit Lions Look to The Oakland Raiders – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Andy “Sandman” Morse to discuss the latest Lions news, look ahead to the Oakland Raiders, and break news on a killer new contest in which you could win tickets to join Chris and Sandman in a suite for the Detroit Lions Dallas Cowboys game at Ford Field. Detroit Lions Podcast Dallas Cowboys Preview Lions came out with a win against the New York Giants last week, this week is another ball of wax. The Lions are facing an Oakland Raiders team who haven’t played a home game since week 2. They are going to be hungry to show their fans a strong game. It’s likely they’ll be attacking the Lions linebackers this game, the Lions front seven are going to need to play a great game to get this win. Chris and Sandman also have a great conversation about the Arizona Cardinals rebuild. How well they played against the San Francisco 49ers, and how their GM is faring. That leads us to make some comparisons and evaluate the Lions’ progress on the development front. Big Contest For Patreon Subscribers! Ep: 237 – Detroit Lions & New York Giants Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Detroit Lions subreddit moderator, Punk Rawkin’ Trev. We fire the studio up discuss the Lions home win over the New York Giants and take your calls. This was a game the Lions were expected to win, though the New York Giants were able to field their entire offense for the first time this season. That offense included Lions fan favorite Golden Tate – he definitely gets some talk time. This was a solid win for the Lions, but it still left fans with some questions. Detroit Lions Podcast Calls This A Foundational Win Even though the Lions were projected to win, Lions fans know every game has its opportunities for disappointment. The Giants were able to make it seem like a game during garbage time when they came within 5 points of the Lions. They chose the inevitable onside kick, but luckily the Lions played it perfectly and the ball rolled out of bounds. Nothing like ending the game in the victory formation. This win brings the Lions record to 3-3-1 with a number of winnable games ahead. In a return to our happy place, The Detroit Lions Podcast doesn’t need to provide a therapy session after this week’s game! There are still plenty of things to take away from this game that the team needs to work on, but for the most part, the team quieted doubters in the short term. As is always the case, we take your calls and discuss the team’s performance in today’s game. We are also asked to think about the team in a broader perspective by a few callers – well worth the listen. It’s a big show, with a lot to discuss, and the next few games will define this team. Ep: 236 – Lions Player Finds New Diggs – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case look at the most important Detroit Lions news of the week. They are also joined by Jeff Risdon to discuss the shocking Quandre Diggs trade and a whole lot more. There is a lot to discuss this week as the Lions look ahead to the New York Giants and we’ve got it all right here for you. Detroit Lions Podcast Vikings Review Last Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings wasn’t the game Lions fans were looking for. The defense was terrible. It wasn’t a few plays, players, or even a few positions. The Lions defense was across the board terrible last Sunday. From coaching to technique, there was very little that went right for these Lions. This leaves us a lot to talk about. It may have even been the final straw in the team trading Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks. Diggs was a player loved by both fans and players alike. Hearing the news of his trade was heartbreaking for many, and the move left many fans inconsolable. Even Darius Slay seemed to be having a hard time with the trade. There could be a number of things at play here, and we’re certain that there was more to the story that we’ve heard so far. Jeff Risdon brings some insider info to the Detroit Lions Podcast and helps us dissect the move. Ep: 235 – Detroit Lions & Minnesota Vikings Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Case (of all people) to discuss the Lions home loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Another game in which the Lions were projected to lose, they proved the prognosticators correct. This time they have no one to blame but themselves. It wasn’t the officials, bad luck, or anything else. Almost as if a giant karmic ‘F-you’ to the Lions after they had us thinking they were a good call or good bounce away from winning. The team is playing better than they did last year. It’s just that they aren’t pulling in the wins, and games like this make people believe they are just hapless. Detroit Lions Podcast – Down On The Defense! This is the first loss of the season that really took hope away from fans based on the team’s actual performance. Was this week’s performance an anomaly, or is this really the Lions team we will be watching for the remainder of the year? It’s not time to give up, but we now know just how bad this defense can be. The next few weeks will tell us what we really have here. As always after a loss, The Detroit Lions Podcast provides the therapy session Lions fans need. We take your calls and discuss the team’s in today’s game. There is a ton to discuss here, but we believe that good teams have bad games – we just need to see what comes next. Big show, lots to talk about, and the next few games will define this team. Ep: 234 – Lions & Packers An Official Mess ft. Dean Blandino – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Fox Sports Rules Analyst Dean Blandino. After this week’s officiating debacle in Green Bay, Lions fans have a lot of questions and need answers. We take your calls and questions to help shed light on what happened. We also talk about what needs to be fixed and how to affect the situation as fans. Detroit Lions Podcast Finds The Tattle Tale Had you heard the news that David Bakhtiari did some tattling (his words) on Trey Flowers which resulted in two terrible penalty calls? As a result we also spend a bit of time discussing how players chirping at officials may affect their calls on the field. Dean also explains the review process works for evaluating officials. Every play, grading, demotions, drug tests, and even firings. Dean also opens up about the one thing he would have changed if he went back in time to his job with the NFL. He opens up with a really interesting answer that is worth the price of admission on its own. Chris’s answer on the other hand, not so interesting. Ep: 233 – Lions And Packers Aftermath – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to discuss the latest Lions game against the Green Bay Packers. The Lions came out spitting, and once the refs got their footing they were able to tilt the playing field to provide the opportunities the Green Bay Packers needed to pull out a last second victory. There is a ton to unpack from this game, crazy plays, horrific officiating, and a question mark about the league as a whole. We take your calls and talk through these topics and a whole lot more. Detroit Lions Podcast Demands Change The talk of the day Tuesday was the epic failure of the officials in the Monday Night Football game. This should never happen to another team. You couldn’t even see the chess match that is coaching strategy. Success of effort on the field – immolated. It was all overshadowed by terrible officiating. A third, supposedly uninvolved party, changed the game. They’ve done so for countless NFL teams. The Lions have had their share of bad calls, but we don’t corner the market. It’s time to take action. Our best bet as fans is to engage the players and make this a part of the CBA negotiation. Its where we have a shot at the real money, which is all that matters to the NFL. The players are the only people with power against the NFL – we need to engage them. Players can improve their careers, safety, and bonuses and force the league to change the way officiating is handled. Fans can finally force the owners to provide a product they can believe in. Ep: 230 – Lions Officiating With Dean Blandino – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Dean Blandino to discuss the most recent week’s Lions officiating controversy. This game presented a number of opportunities to look at officiating, why specific calls were made, and why others weren’t. Dean also takes your calls and answers your questions directly. Eventually, Chris has to ask the question that all of the keyboard warriors were afraid to ask. Detroit Lions Podcast Is Official This game against the Kansas City Chiefs was a thriller. You could tell the Lions have turned a corner as a team and the future is bright in Detroit. Unfortunately, the team had to play through a number of calls that didn’t necessarily go the teams’ way. Previous Lions teams might have folded and ended the game in a hopeless loss. This Lions team was in it to the very last play. While the scoreboard didn’t show the score Lions fans hoped for, the team showed that they are made of something much different than before. This is the stuff that competitors are made of. It might be just the stuff winners are made of. Dean talks about the points of the officiating in the game that fans have an issue with and tells us where good calls were made (and why) as well as where officiating mistakes were made. We also take a broader look at the rules of the game and discuss changes we’d like to see there. Lastly, we open the calls to the fans and allow folks to directly ask Dean what’s been on their mind about anything at all. Where Are You Tough Guys? In the end, the keyboard warriors were afraid to call, so Chris asked the question that all the tough guys wanted to know about. Dean goes into the infamous ‘Party Bus’ situation and explains how it all went down, who was involved (nope, no hookers or blow), and the significant issue of the timeline. It’s a good conversation overall, and Lions fans can take a lot away from this. If you prefer the video version of the podcast, check out the Detroit Lions Podcast YouTube Channel here. Ep: 229 – Detroit Lions & Kansas City Chiefs Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Ash Thompson to discuss the Lions home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In another game in which the Lions were projected to lose, the Lions took the Chiefs to the last play of the game. The national conversation about the Lions will certainly change for the better after this showing. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to take away a win. The good news is that this was still a statement game in which the Lions showed they could play on the same level as a Super Bowl contender. We’re here to help you understand the perspective. Detroit Lions Podcast Calls Out A Culture Change This team has never had a loss that gave the fan base so much hope. The team played for a full 60 minutes and showed that they can not only hang with the best the NFL has to offer, but could even beat them. In the Fox pregame show, Michael Strahan predicted the Chiefs by 14 points. After this game, his tune about the Lions is going to have to change. The entire conversation about the Lions will change at the national level. This team has shown that it can play big boy football, and they put the NFC North on notice today. We take your calls and discuss the role of the officials in today’s game. There is a ton of opportunity for controversy here, but we believe that good teams overcome the officials’ impact today. Chris has never seen a fan base happier after a loss than those he spoke with today. The optimism is well founded. Big show, lots to talk about, and a fine way to head into the bye. Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kx3h41FL2A Detroit Lions Podcast Quick Takes This week on Quick Takes, Chris and Jeff slide back into the broadcast chairs and discuss the Lions recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles. We also ponder the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and take your questions. Your calls and questions from the Patreon Slack chat make up a good bit of content this week as well as discussion on why the Lions aren’t going to pick up Jalen Ramsey (so stop asking). The Detroit Lions Podcast definitely didn’t hold true to the show’s name, with over an hour of content, these takes are anything but quick. Suffice it to say, they are just what you need to get ready for this week’s game against the Chiefs. We’ll let you know why its winnable, and hoe the Lions might hope to pull off the win. If they do, this could be bigger than last years’ victory against the New England Patriots. Great topics this week with Chris and the Riz, but the best part is taking your calls and questions. Ep: 226 – Detroit Lions & Philadelphia Eagles Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Sandman to discuss the Lions big win over the Philadelphia Eagles. After another game in which the Lions were projected to lose, they powered through and came out undefeated in the end. No one expected this Lions team to be in this position after three games. The most optimistic predictions had the team at 1-2. There is a lot to unpack from this performance, and we’re here to help you put things in perspective. Detroit Lions Podcast Screams Undefeated! A team that has been an underdog ever since week one has shown determination and grit beyond expectations. This is a different organization and definitely not the “Same Old Lions”. It’s about time fans realize this and take the time to enjoy the good football they deserve. The Detroit Lions Podcast spends a good deal of time breaking this down and helping Lions fans understand what to take away from this game. We also take a look ahead at the Kansas City Chiefs match-up next week and start thinking about how that game could be a win, even if the scoreboard shows an ‘L’ after the game. Ep: 225 – Lions Undefeated After Two – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring you the latest Lions news after the nerve wracking win over the Chargers. Very few thought that this team would be undefeated after two games this season, and we tell you why the trend could continue. We take a look at the Lions Defense, Special Teams, the offense (and the offensive line in particular). We discuss some late breaking roster changes, take a look ahead at the Eagles, and go Around the Division. Detroit Lions Podcast Victory Party! First things first, we discuss the Lions victory against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was a messy game, but there is a lot of good to take away from it. Most importantly, the Detroit Lions came away victorious and surprised a lot of fans who were still stunned from the previous week’s tie. We also admit our surprise at Jamal Agnew remaining on the team at this point. Something more than Amendola taking reps has to change, and we expect to see some more J.D. McKissic on the field. When news breaks, we cover it. We react to the CJ Anderson cut and Paul Perkins pickup as well as what it might mean to the team. There are a few nice little insider nuggets in this conversation too… From there the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses Matthew Stafford and his interceptions in the last game. There have been a number of discussions about them and we want to be sure to bring some context and sanity to the discussion. This leads us to a discussion about the offensive scheme and an early report card on Darrell Bevell with a comparison to Jim Bob Cooter’s portfolio of work. We take a moment to discuss the tight end situation in Detroit. This is a story of riches and not a cautionary tale. It’s so nice to finally see great tight ends in Detroit again. Comparing NFC North Quarterbacks And Including Eli Manning Next the Detroit Lions Podcast goes over the current rankings of the NFC North quarterbacks with the New York Giants backup quarterback included. We take a few moments to delve into the predictions for the upcoming Eagles game. For the second week in a row, it may be a heck of a lot more winnable than we thought even 3 weeks ago. We also take you around the division to look at our competition and to ascertain where we might stand after the second week of football. Ep: 224 – Detroit Lions & Los Angeles Chargers Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Ash Thompson to discuss the Lions incredible home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Lions were projected to lose this one, instead the Lions stood tall. There were far too many penalties from both teams with the Lions leading to spending the majority of the second half playing from behind. True to former form, the team was able to stage an amazing comeback. There is a lot to unpack from this performance, and we’re here to help you put things in perspective. Detroit Lions Podcast Happy With A Win First and foremost, the Lions are in a position that very few predicted – undefeated after two games. The team is in second place, a half of a game out of first in the NFC North. This is one of those games where many Lions fans come out frustrated. We don’t agree, there is a lot to be happy with here. There are a few that don’t deserve celebration too, and one of them may not be on the team next week. The Detroit Lions Podcast spends a good deal of time breaking this down and discussing what Lions fans should take away from this game. Ep: 223 – Lions Disappointing Gift – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take you through the Lions tie that felt like a loss. Did it feel like a loss because we were conditioned toward that outcome? Was this improvement? What does this mean for the team? Detroit Lions Podcast In Arizona We spend a good deal of time and take you deep on the game experience in Arizona. Case was in the stadium and brings us the tales of glory that only a visiting Lions fan can bring. We break the game down into two sections – the first three and a half quarters and the last half quarter. They were two different games and we explain what happened, why it happened, and why we don’t expect to see something like this next week. From there the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses the situation with Antonio Brown. There is an aspect to this story that rings a little bell of similarity to something we’ve seen in Detroit… We share our thoughts on the matter and await the next shocking turn as much as anyone else. We take a moment to discuss a man who most Lions fans are familiar with, Fred McLeod. He passed away the other day and deserves a moment of our time to remember him and his contributions to Detroit. Next the Detroit Lions Podcast breaks out the hype with Chris’s latest audio creation. We’re looking for your feedback on this – help us know where your hype level is after hearing this. Lions Look Forward We take a few moments to delve into the predictions for the upcoming Chargers game. It may be a heck of a lot more winnable than we thought even 3 weeks ago. We also take you around the division to look at our competition and to ascertain where we might stand after the first week of football. Finally, the Detroit Lions Podcast welcomes our friend Dean Blandino to the show to discuss his new podcast, review the craziest calls in the NFL this week, and grade the officials on their work in the Lions game. Ep: 222 – Detroit Lions & Arizona Cardinals Post Game Show – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined Jeff Risdon to discuss the Lions incredible season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. This game had it all, the makings of a massive victory for the Lions, the possibility of a crushing loss, and it ended with the first Lions tie in 30 years. There was a whole lot right in this game and a couple of crucial failures. There is a lot to unpack from this performance, and you have the two best possible guys to help you put things in perspective. The Detroit Lions Podcast Ties Things Up There were three and a half quarters of strong play from the Lions team, but things began to fall apart when Darrell Bevell convinced Matt Patricia to call a time out at a crucial juncture in the game. Not calling the time out would have all but guaranteed a Lions victory. Matthew Stafford was visibly angry with the call yelling at his coaches to “trust me” when they nullified what would have been a first down and more for the team. The Detroit Lions Podcast spends a good deal of time breaking this down and discussing what Lions fans should take away from this incident. Ep: 221 – Lions Season Ahead – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff “the Riz” Risdon to bring you the latest in Detroit Lions news. We discuss recent pick ups, releases, and try out, discuss a great article about Matthew Stafford by “The Ringer”, take a quick look at Andrew Luck’s retirement, look at Lions season predictions (including making our own), and take a look ahead at the Detroit Lions game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Detroit Lions Podcast Is Sad We kick things off by discussing the devastating cut of Zach Zenner from the team. We discuss where he is trying out, his future, and if we’ll ever see him in Detroit again. It was a sad day for Zenner fans. From there the Detroit Lions Podcast takes a look at the great article in The Ringer that discusses Matthew Stafford and puts his decade in the NFL in perspective. It tells us a number of behind-the-scenes stories that help us understand Matthew’s character and what drives him. It’s definitely worth your time. The next item on the docket is Andrew Luck’s decision to retire from the NFL. Chris has a take that differs a little bit from what you are hearing everywhere else. One that’s worth thinking about. Detroit Lions To Win The Division? After that, the Detroit Lions Podcast breaks down Football Outsiders’ DVOA projection that puts the Lions at the top of the NFC North this year. We want to believe. Unfortunately, there are a few teams that stand in the way of their attempt to claim the division for the first time since 1993. We take a look at the Football Outsiders piece and provide our thinking on the topic. Finally, the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals. There are a number of variables at play, and a couple of strategic signings the Lions have made in an attempt to get an edge in their first game of the year. We discuss keys to the game and provide our predictions on the Detroit Lions season. Ep: 220 – Lions Picking Up Steam – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down the latest Detroit Lions news. We recap the game against the Houston Texans, cover the pickup/drop of a few wide receivers (and one who is still a possibility), discuss Martha Ford and her upcoming TV appearance, and go in on Brian Baldinger and his cringy “drunk uncle” rant. Detroit Lions Podcast Game Review We kick things off by discussing the second game of the Detroit Lions preseason, this one against the Houston Texans. David Fales, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Miles Killebrew and Will Harris all earned high marks. We also go into who didn’t show as well and cover one player that is making an interesting case for himself. Then we hit the waiver wire and discuss who the Lions have picked up, put down and are thinking about. It’s interesting to see who they are looking at in an attempt to bolster their depth at wide receiver. There’s definitely work to be done at the position, expect more to come. Your Fantasy, A Reality Don’t forget, our Detroit Lions Podcast Fantasy Football season has opened up! We have made big changes this year as a result of your feedback – no IDP leagues, it’s all team defense, no more cross-league competition it’s you against 11 others for that first place cash, we’ve even got a few Pick ‘Em leagues! /u/A5hcrack did the math and realized we’ve quadrupled the number of prizes. Check it out and sign up at http://fantasy.DetroitLionsPodcast.com Next the Detroit Lions Podcast takes a look at Martha Ford’s upcoming special, “A Lifetime of Sundays”. The special profiles four iconic female NFL owners, including Martha Ford. Mrs. Ford was contacted ahead of the premiere and shared some of her hopes for the team. Definitely worth a watch on August 25th at 1:00 ET on ESPN. It airs again on September 1st at 3:30 ET on ABC. Breaking Down Baldinger’s Rant Finally, the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses an odd rant from Brian Baldinger. Case termed it best as a “drunk uncle” type rant. Not something we would typically expect from Baldy, but definitely something Lions fans weren’t happy with. We discuss where it might have come from. Ep: 219 – Injury? My Eye! – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to give you the latest in Detroit Lions news. We cover Antonio Brown, TJ Hockenson’s injury, Ty Johnson’s big time play, Matthew Stafford news, and provide a preview of what to watch for in the Lions game against Houston. Detroit Lions Podcast Highlights Near Misses We kick things off by talking about Antonio Brown. “How is he Lions news?”, you might ask. Antonio was discussed as the key piece to fix the ailing wide receiver position for the Lions this year. A quick check in on the Oakland Raiders on HBO’s Hard Knocks and you can see why its best that we didn’t pick him up. Chris takes a moment to remind listeners that its sometimes as important to looks at who you *didn’t* pick up as much as who you did. Good work from Mr. Quinn on this one. Next we dive in on TJ Hockenson and his reported injury from today. Word broke that he was headed to the sideline and disappeared with trainers. A collective panic started to settle in over Lions Twitter until we found out that he was poked in the eye and the injury was nothing serious or long lasting. The Detroit Lions Podcast takes a minute to discuss just how important he is to the Lions offense this year and puts context around just how devastating that could have been. Realizing Your Fantasies Don’t forget, our Detroit Lions Podcast Fantasy Football season has opened up! We have made big changes this year as a result of your feedback. There are no IDP leagues, it’s all team defense, no more cross-league competition. It’s you against 11 others for that first place cash, we’ve even got a few Pick ‘Em leagues! /u/A5hcrack did the math and realized we’ve quadrupled the number of prizes. Check it out and sign up at http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com/store We take another look at one of the guys we’re rooting for, Ty Johnson. He’s looking good out there and scoring better than his stats would tell you. Chris also starts to become a bigtime buyer on Amani Oruwariye. He likes what he sees and thinks this kid could turn into something special. Definitely one to watch over the next two years. Matthew Stafford Loves You Finally, the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses a couple of Matthew Stafford stories from the last few days. We help folks understand just how committed he is. From there we preview what we should be looking for in the game against Houston as our excitement builds toward the reality of real football coming down the pike. Ep: 217/218 – Lions Kick Off The Preseason! – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case cover the kickoff of the Detroit Lions Preseason! With game one in the books we have a lot to discuss. The team didn’t look great, there were a number of injuries, and the score was just plain ugly. Is this indicative of what to expect from the team in 2019? Should we just chalk it up? Cash in until 2020? We tackle these questions and more this week… Also, we end the show with the Dan Miller interview of Dean Blandino from our Training Camp Party last week. Dan combines no-holds-barred questions from the audience and his own questions with a personal story that will knock you off your seat in this amazing interview. We put it at the very end of the podcast for your enjoyment. We highly recommend seeing the video version here – you don’t want to miss this. Detroit Lions Podcast Back In The Studio! We start off by thanking the people who took part in our Training Camp week. It was amazing for us, and we can’t thank everyone who took part in making the week so successful. I am 100% certain we missed people and we sincerely apologize for that, it was a whirlwind week and we’re still recovering. So much so that we added more thank yous at the end of the show. If we missed you, we are so sorry – we talk about Case’s multiple concussions later in the show, and that’s the least of the reasons we’re too dumb to remember everyone who deserves a call out… Next we dive in on game 1 of the preseason. Hooray, its football! Boo, its ugly! We seem to get so caught up in the offseason and the buildup to finally seeing our boys hit the field that we often forget what the preseason really means – which is, not much. With that we separate the wheat and the chaff, talk about what we should worry about and what we shouldn’t. We also talk about where things looked sharp and which of those things are important. The team was bit hard by the injury bug and we help bring some clarity to what that means for the team in the long run. Fantasy Football Sign Up Is Now! Don’t forget, our Detroit Lions Podcast Fantasy Football season has opened up! Check it out and sign up here! We also discuss the offensive line play we saw in preseason game 1. It was abhorrent. We discuss Tyrell Crosby and what to take away from his performance. We also bring context to what we were actually watching with the line and why there’s no reason to panic. Dan Miller’s Candid Interview With Dean Blandino Finally, we added Dan Miller’s great interview of Dean Blandino from our Training Camp party to the end of the show. It’s an absolute can’t miss conversation done in the way that only Dan can do. That alone is worth the price of admission. We start off welcoming Sandman to the show this week, he will be joining us in our coverage of the Lions Training Camp this year – look for some great reporting from him about what he sees and how this team has changed year over year. He had a keen eye for what last year would look like, and he started calling it from the second week of training camp last year. We’re excited to have him continue to share his talents with us. Next on the Detroit Lions Podcast, we talk about the end of the Slay and Snacks holdouts – huzzah! No more arguments between Chris and Case about the semantics of that one. It could have been a long season otherwise. They may be starting under the NFI designation, but we’ll tell you why not to worry and to be happy for day one of camp. Living The Football Fantasy So much more, our Detroit Lions Podcast Fantasy Football season has opened up! Ep: 215 – Lions Making The Grade – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case cover the latest Lions offseason news including the new Madden rankings, Golden Tate and his words on Matthew Stafford, some offseason work that Stafford has put in with a couple of Lions receivers, the biggest concern for the 2019 Lions, and a lot more! Detroit Lions Podcast Apologizes We start off with an apology for last week’s missing show. Chris had to leave town for work and the boys weren’t able to get together to put a show together. The promise to try and make it up to you though… After that we take on the biggest topic of the day, the Lions player rankings in Madden. Chris laments our two highest rated players holding out (Case tries to stem an aneurysm at Chris’s choice of words. With his new ‘stache, it probably would have been a favor if he had). There are many obviously questionable choices and ratings that seem out of touch. It’s just another rating system that attempts to take some subjective information and quantify it. These are never perfect, but it is better than nothing… Next on the Detroit Lions Podcast, we discuss Golden Tate and his reference to Matthew Stafford as the best quarterback that he’s ever played with. Case seems to take exception and wants to dance around in the semantics of the situation. Chris (who seems to always be right – mainly because he writes the show notes) has fun agitating Lt. Jim Dangle. If you don’t get the reference, take a look at this week’s episode on our YouTube channel (first cut releases on Thursday) and evaluate Case’s new look. Summer Practice Builds Teamwork From there the Detroit Lions Podcast discusses the scene of Matthew Stafford’s offseason workout with Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola. After that we move on to cover an article posted by Reddit user /u/Waxxo discussing the biggest concern for the Detroit Lions in 2019. Case provides analysis while Chris finds a different area of concern for this team. Good discussion ensues. The boys also talk about the latest rankings on the Lions offensive line as created by PFF. Case again makes his thoughts on PFF clear, Chris feels that they are as valid as the Madden rankings or any other ranking system. Helping to quantify the subjective is helpful, but always requiring further context. Lastly the Detroit Lions Podcast covers an article posted by Reddit user /u/NFLFan84 in which each team’s biggest sleeper player was chosen. For the Lions, they chose CB Amani Oruwariye. We discuss what it means, and if the contribution of first year cornerbacks is about to push to the fore like it has for tight ends. Ep: 214 – Haulin’ The Lions Mail – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case cover a number of important Detroit Lions topics including: Nate Burleson on his time in Detroit, Matthew Stafford’s performance under center vs. in the shotgun, the party that no one will want to miss, digging deep on your questions in our mailbag, and we chat about the additional NFL Football Hall Of Fame inductees that might be added this year as a part of the centennial celebration. Detroit Lions Podcast Brings Nate Back We start off with a great quote from Nate Burleson about his time in Detroit. Listening to him speak about the city shows you just how awesome a guy he is, he “gets” the city and its heart. We spend a little bit discussing different players and how you can tell how committed to the city they really are. Next on the Detroit Lions Podcast, we talk about Matthew Stafford’s stats when he plays under center. Specifically, comparing them to when he’s playing out of the shotgun. The stats tell a very interesting story. Jeff Risdon breaks down how those stats should present themselves to Darrell Bevell. We also analyze how he might utilize them when building his offensive scheme. Chris rains on the parade with the idea that the stats might mean something in the Cooter/Lombardi offense, but the changes that Bevell brings might invalidate them. It may not, but it is definitely something to take in mind when building a scheme around the Lions most expensive player. Mailbag time! From there we welcome Jeff Risdon on the show to dive into the Detroit Lions Podcast Mailbag. We field questions from: @MrWoodsLoL, @GMart4041, @Lionsfan1960, @Ray7James, @IanEvan71041877, @SFHCommish_1, Ken in Brandon, and @ThisGuyNeil. Unfortunately we missed questions from: @ZugIreland, @DCWaz and might just pick them up on the next show. Lots of great discussion here, thank you everyone for the amazing questions – really got us going for a bit. The NFL is proposing changes to the Hall Of Fame this year. The NFL wants to add 20 players to the Hall Of Fame as a part of the league’s centennial celebration. We decide whether its overdue or if it devalues the idea of being a Hall of Fame inductee. We make arguments from both sides of the equation and weigh them to determine what this might mean across the broader spectrum. Ep: 213 – Lions On Stafford’s Back – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case kick off what is known as the NFL’s “dead season” with some key news about the team, the podcast and more. We kick off with the final data from our St. Jude fundraising effort. We discuss the recently breaking news about Matthew Stafford’s back – and this time it isn’t just from carrying the team. We set the record straight on the Training Camp Party, talk power rankings, and celebrate the Detroit Lions Podcast anniversary. Who said it’s the “dead season”? Detroit Lions Podcast Scores For St. Jude First off, we need to thank each and every one of you who took part in our St. Jude fundraising drive. What an amazing effort you all put forth. We raised a total of $7,641.38 to help sick kids though the Detroit Lions Podcast Patreon donations, PayPal donations, direct donations to St. Jude, and through our auction. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to I Prevail, Dean Blandino, and the Detroit Lions organization for donating such amazing items to the auction. Then we talk about Matthew Stafford and his sore back. For the first time he’s suffering not from carrying the team, but from real injuries sustained during the season. Stafford suffered from micro-fractures in his back during the season and evidently continued to play even with the injuries. In response, Chris goes on a jag about how Stafford checks all the boxes when it comes to being an amazing man. There may be a real love affair budding in the Detroit Lions Podcast studios, even bigger than the original love for Zach Zenner. We’ll have to see how this competition plays out… Annual Training Camp Party Date Changes The Detroit Lions Podcast Training Camp Party takes center stage next. With the final announcement from the Lions about Training Camp dates, we were able to hone in on the exact date for our annual party. Tickets will go on sale for Patreon donors on Wednesday and the general public on Saturday at about noon on DetroitLionsPodcast.com. Lots of information here on guests, prizes, and more! Ep: 212 – Lions Next Stop: Training Camp – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon for our last look at the Lions before the time of year known as “the dead zone” begins. We found it important to discuss Damon Harrison again, a little making up for our mistake, and a little further look at his situation. We take a listener’s call on the Calvin situation and then clarify a little bit on contracts in the NFL as well. The boys even sneak in some CBA chatter. Next, we touch base on Teez Tabor’s changes, the news about HBO’s Hard Knocks, and some interesting stats about Matthew Stafford. We also discuss a great post about the power of persistence from the subreddit, do a new segment “Pimp My article”, and talk Lions upcoming important dates. Detroit Lions Podcast Corrects The Record Chris has to apologize for saying Rosenhaus negotiated Snacks’ current contract. We knew he didn’t but we all brain farted last week when we discussed the situation. We break down what things look like for Harrison and how things may play out. From there we take a Detroit Lions Podcast listener’s call on the Calvin Johnson situation. We weigh in on it a bit and talk about negotiating contracts and where people may be getting hung up when they talk about players’ monetary figures. Additionally, we preview portions of the CBA to be addressed in the next agreement. Its also worth pointing out that current player movements and negotiations may be foreshadowing for what to look for. Meinke Brings Tabor To Life Kyle Meinke wrote an excellent article about Teez Tabor and how his life has changed over the last few years, particularly heading into this year. Teez visited an event held by the Detroit Youth Violence Prevention Initiative: The Brotherhood & Sisterhood in a pretty rough section of Detroit and spent some time speaking with kids about life. He spoke about how his circumstances were similar to theirs, how he had come up out of a tough neighborhood, and how he had stumbled along the way. He also talked about how doing the right things can help these kids rise above the situation they were born into, how they can also succeed. Tabor also discussed how it took a long time and a lot of inner reflection to get to where he is today. Working for a new start for himself with the Lions in the NFL. The Detroit Lions Podcast discusses how a lot of credit should go to Tabor, the Lions players, and Lions management for the work they are doing to help confront social injustice. This exemplifies a great effort and a huge push forward that can hopefully make a big impact on a number of young lives. Well written by Meinke, definitely worth a read. Knocking On A Different Door From there the Detroit Lions Podcast discuss HBO’s Hard Knocks, some interesting 2018 Matthew Stafford statistics (we sneak a Kelly Stafford update in there too!), and speak to the question from jahvidsanders44 in the Detroit Lions subreddit in which he asks: “Do you think part of the reason for our Super Bowl drought is because we don’t stick to a plan?” A great conversation ensues. Ep: 211 – Agents Of Lions Frustration – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case kick off mandatory mini-camp, discuss Hard Knocks, and dissect the offensive line. We’re also joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to discuss the newly breaking contract dispute with Darius Slay and Damon ‘Snacks’ Harrison. Detroit Lions Podcast Is Ready For Hard Knocks We kick it all off with the chatter that won’t go away – HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’. While we both love and hate the idea of the Lions being featured, in the end we just want an answer. It sounds like it’s down to the Lions and Raiders and we talk about the logic behind HBO picking either one. We take another look at Teez Tabor and some changes he’s gone through in the last year. He sounds like he has really buckled down and is working on his game harder than ever. We discuss what that mean for him and how the team should assess his performance. It’s not time to give up just yet. Then the Detroit Lions Podcast opens the book on CJ Anderson and what he means to Detroit’s offense. With Kerryon Johnson’s injury history, it’s good to have a hungry back itching to break out. Anderson brings that to Detroit and even as a “second on the committee” back, he will make a noticeable impact this year. This could be a good year for Anderson and Lions fans, definitely one to watch. Offensive Lines Aren’t Offensive Well, the offensive line seems to be locked in at this point. Things could switch up but the Taylor Decker – Kenny Wiggins – Frank Ragnow – Graham Glasgow – Rick Wagner crew seems to have locks on their spots. What does this mean for the team, and its most expensive player, Matthew Stafford? The Detroit Lions Podcast breaks it down. After that we discuss Calvin Johnson, he’s back in Lions news – and it’s not hugs and cuddles. He’s put a price on hugs and snuggles with Lions – likely over the market rate. We go over the situation, and even wind up with a caller who brings the conversation to an excellent conclusion. Contracting Something Ugly Lastly we are joined by Jeff Risdon to discuss the week’s big news, Darius Slay and Damon Harrison not showing up at mandatory mini-camp. This is both frustrating and depressing for Lions fans, and it is likely for Slay and Snacks as well. We talk about why there are likely different motivations for the players, but a single reason why. We also do a little role playing, and devil’s advocating around the impasse in an effort to provide perspective. In the end we want it all to work out in the best way possible for all involved parties. Ep: 210 – Lions Looking Good In Shorts – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to break down the first week in OTAs, have some Hock talk, discuss the broader Lions offensive plans, analyze the CB position, and more! Detroit Lions Podcast OTA Report Out of the gate we dive in to what we learned about the team in their first weeks of OTAs. There was a lot to look at and learn from this team. Tim Twentyman gives us 5 takeaways from week one and we walk through them and what they mean for the team. We take a look at first round draft pick T.J. Hockenson’s performance so far. The Riz talks about what he means to the team and how he can really help Matthew Stafford in a place where he badly needs it. Then the Detroit Lions Podcast takes a look at Darrell Bevell’s offensive strategy and some of the tenants of the offense that he’s bringing. One thing for sure, they look to be leaning on the defense to win games more than the offense, and that will be different for a lot of fans. Seeing who can accept it and how the team can execute will be one of the stories of the 2019 football season. It makes sense, but definitely leaves us with questions. Is the time right to go against the passing grain in the NFL? Do we have the personnel to execute? What the heck do “shots down field” look like in 2019? There is much here to discuss through camp and into the season. No Clear Corners Darius Slay is still looking for someone to play on the other side of the field from him. It feels better to have Justin Coleman in the slot, but will he line up as the Lions cb2? Questions remain about Quandre Diggs and Jamal Agnew – where will they line up? And of course, Ford, Oruwariye, and Tabor are all still open questions. The Detroit Lions Podcast takes a stab at how things might shake out and why. We spend some time discussing Kelly Stafford and her progress after brain surgery. She shared another update and continues to spark hope for a full recovery. She discusses the mental difficulty that comes with some of the effects so far and how it will take up to 12 months to find out if there are any permanent symptoms as a result. We continue to hope and pray for her full recovery – we know she’s going to use her experience to help others, and often, providing hope is key. Matthew Stafford Humiliates Aaron Rodgers Again She also shared a video of Matthew Stafford absolutely humiliating Aaron Rodgers in the realm of beer chugging. I’m certain that Aaron would have run to hide in the locker room again if he had the chance after being humiliated by Matthew twice in the last 6 months. The story is a little old, but still worth having fun with on the first Detroit Lions Podcast since it happened. Ep: 209 – Lions OTAs Underway – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down the first day of OTAs for the Lions in 2019. We talk about positional movements, listen to player quotes, discuss Taste of the Lions, provide an update on Kelly Stafford, and last, but certainly not least, are joined by Jeff ‘The Riz’ Risdon to get his report from day 1 of OTAs! The Detroit Lions Podcast Has You Covered First, we hit the high points of the Lions last two weeks in ‘This Week In Reddit’ and help provide insights on everything that happened on the week we took off. We have solid audio from Matthew Stafford about how things went today and which areas they are focusing on at the beginning of camp. We also discuss some positional movements that weren’t a surprise, and should have been expected. The Detroit Lions Podcast also discusses who isn’t in camp. Should fans should be worried? We also have a discussion about our old gal Suh being signed by the Bucs in Tampa. We spend some time discussing Kelly Stafford and her progress after brain surgery. She shared another update and it was amazing. She went to a friend’s wedding and looked no worse for the wear. Kelly articulates some of the struggles she’s had as she works through her recovery from surgery. We are inspired by the excellent progress she’s made already. Getting A Taste Of The Lions The Detroit Lions Podcast then bounces in on Taste of the Lions. We cover the great stuff that happened there, including naming Chris’s undercover +1. We then move on to key upcoming dates in the Lions schedule. Ep: 208 – Lions Case Study: TJ Hockenson – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down the Detroit Lions first round 2019 NFL draft pick. We walk through the areas in which we believe TJ Hockenson could help this team as well as key areas to watch in training camp and the preseason. We also spend some time discussing Jahlani Tavai, Kelly Stafford, and more! Detroit Lions Podcast Case Study First, in this Case Study we catalog the TJ Hockenson pick and the many ways in which he helps this Lions team. We analyze this from a number of perspectives including value, scheme, ability, and more. Finally, we cover areas of risk and how to mitigate them. This is a good in-depth conversation about the 2019 Lions first round draft pick. The Detroit Lions Podcast also discusses Jahlani Tavai, who the Lions nabbed in the second round. We don’t go nearly as deep as we did with Hockenson, but we take a look at what he brings. We also discuss why he was taken where he was, and the information that Chris received during the draft itself. Prayers For Kelly We spend a little time discussing Kelly Stafford and her progress after brain surgery. She shared another update and while things are moving slower than anyone wants, there’s a lot to celebrate with her situation. We still wish her the very best in her recovery and will be following closely. Ep: 207 – Lions Draft Reflections – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case and Jeff Risdon bring you the first takes on the Lions performance during the draft. A few different opinions, and a look at how the Lions fared against their peers in the division. Detroit Lions Podcast Draft Reflections The show this week is commercial free – no breaks for sponsors, just straight Lions football content from the starting gun. Please use the links at the bottom of this page to help support the show in the meantime! Starting out we break down the T.J. Hockenson pick and weigh the positives and negatives of the pick. We also discuss some of the common fan and Twitter reactions. The Detroit Lions Podcast is satisfied with the pick and with a quick listen we bet you’ll agree. The Lions second round pick stunned many people, and was considered a reach by many others. There are some reports that Jahlani Tavai was at the top of the board for a pair of other teams and the Lions felt it was time to move on him. Worry not, we’ll help you understand how to feel about this pick. Round 3 was an absolute head-scratcher for all but a very few folks. We take a look at this pick and discuss why it may be a defining pick for the Bob Quinn regime. Draft Wrap And A Fifth Round Gem We’ll go through the rest of the picks in this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast and a couple of Undrafted Free Agents to help put the cherry on top. A real highlight of a pick happened in the 5th round when the Lions picked up cornerback Amani Oruwariye at #146 overall. This one garnered a lot of discussion and for us it was no different. Lastly, we aren’t real big on draft grades. With that in mind, we compare the offseason work of the Lions against their division rivals. We also determine which teams got better and where. As always, the Detroit Lions Podcast has you covered for the draft this year and we have a whole lot more to come. Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming Detroit Lions Podcast! Ep: 206 – Lions 2019 NFL Draft Last Stand – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring you the last stop before the draft. We are joined by Tony Ortiz and Jeff Risdon to break down where the Detroit Lions might be looking in the draft. Two different opinions, and two good draft models play out before you. Detroit Lions Podcast Draft Party We begin the show with the boys talking about the draft party. It’s the best way to not have to leave your house and still get amazing draft coverage. Everything you might need will be available on the DetroitLionsPodcast.com live draft stream. You don’t want to miss it. The next big topic is to walk down the list of the top #1 draft picks from the last 52. We have a pretty good discussion, but are constantly hamstrung by the caveat that this is only about #1 draft picks. It makes for an interesting discussion and one in which the rules really do matter. From there we discuss Kelly Stafford’s situation as we know it. We have an emotional investment in her progress and success, so we will continue to follow this story. The Staffords are an amazing family, you can’t help but wish them the very best. Then we move on to our St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fund raiser. Holy cow, you people are amazing. We’ve made great progress and continue to work toward raising money for a worthy and amazing cause. The auction is on fire, and time is running out. Get in there before you lose your chance to get something amazing. Come to http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com and make your donation, bid in the auction, or pick up a shirt where $1 from each sale will go to St. Jude. We have until the end of the month to push this over the top – help us get there! Tony Ortiz Is The Hero We Need At that point, the boys are sick of each other, so they bring super hero Tony Ortiz to make his last stand and put his stake into the ground for the draft. Tony is amazing as usual and makes some very good cases for his draft choices. He earns some walk off music as a result. Tony will always be in our hearts. Ever heard of that Riz guy? Yeah, he darkens our doorway once again with his last stand. He makes all kinds of crazy predictions on how the draft may play out. We were on board until he picked Barry Sanders in the 4th round, then we knew he was drunk… Well, the opposite of that happened, but we need to see the “Riz was wrong” segment for the future… Let us know what you think about the show by commenting in the podcast thread in the subreddit, or by leaving us a voice mail message via Skype at: Detroit Lions Podcast Your input will help make the show better, and if you leave us a message on Skype, you just might be featured in an upcoming Detroit Lions Podcast! Ep: 204 – Pre-draft Lions With Co-host Dean Blandino – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, @DeanBlandino joins Chris while Case gets away for a week. We also bring The Riz, Jeff Risdon on board to talk about breaking Lions news. A lot going on this week, so let’s get into it… Detroit Lions Podcast Co-host Dean Blandino We begin the show with a surprise co-host, Dean Blandino joining Chris to break down the latest Lions news. Dean is a natural fit for our first topic, the changes to the NFL rules that came from last week’s League/Owners’ Meeting. He brings the right level of insight to what we can expect and what to worry about as a result of the changes – we also put it in context of the Lions and what it means for us directly. Dean also shares with us how the NFL will communicate their initial interpretation of the new rules as well as how things will evolve over the season. Great insight to a yearly occurrence that will have bigger impact in the 2019 season. Dean also makes a $500 pledge to the Detroit Lions Podcast St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fund raiser on the fly. Come to http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com and make your donation, or pick up a shirt on the site, where $1 from each sale will go to St. Jude. From there we discuss the CJ Anderson signing and what Dean thinks it means to the team. CJ has a lot to bring and his attitude out of the gate should strike fear into the hearts of our rival defensive linemen. This is a pickup that should mean a lot to the Lions run game that needed a ton of help in 2018. Who’s Ready For The Lions On ‘Hard Knocks’? Next up is a conversation about Hard Knocks, a little about the selection process and how the Lions can stay away. Dean also talks to the Detroit Lions Podcast about what it means to the team from various angles. We get some great insight around Bob Quinn at this part of the show as well… It’s that time of year, time to get ready for our 3rd annual NFL Draft Party! We give you the info you need to prepare for the best place to hang out and get your Lions draft chat and analysis in addition to hearing from some of your favorite guests. Don’t forget, we’ll be taking your calls during the whole affair as well. We also let the cat out of the bag on our 3rd Annual Detroit Lions Training Camp Party! Tentatively scheduled for August 3rd this year, we have declared the daytime training camp period to be Zach Zenner day. Then, as the sun goes down, we’ll kick off the party. We’ll do a live broadcast from the event with great door prize drawings, and (of course) very specials guests. Get yourself ready, it is going to be a blast! The Riz Returns We close things out with Jeff Risdon. He weighs in with the Detroit Lions Podcast just hours after the CJ Anderson pickup and takes us on a deep draft run where he discusses the top positional prospects that belong in the top 10 in the draft. It’s a great look at things from a “big board” perspective. Don’t miss the show close, Dean has a hilarious pants-free story! Ep: 203 – Detroit Lions Patricia Bites – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case continue to their drive to $10K for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We also have Matt Patricia for breakfast, Discuss the Lions top needs, bring in the Riz to discuss the first three rounds of the draft, and take you ‘Around The Division’ with an advance look at new music from the soon to drop I Prevail album which comes out March 29th! Detroit Lions Podcast Owns It We begin the show with Chris eating crow. He blew it on Malcolm Brown and takes full ownership, well… He takes you all down with him. Then the conversation begins with new Lions pickup Tommy Lee Lewis and what happened as a result of last week’s conversation and Reddit user/Twitter friend Honolulu Blue Balls response. From there we delve into Matt Patricia’s interview at the Owners’ Meeting breakfast today. He spent just about an hour after breakfast talking to reporters and answering everything they threw his way. There were even jokes at Kyle Meinke and Michael Rothstein’s expense. We’re going to have to check in with Justin Rogers on the effect of these to get the appropriate color commentary. We bring you the key clips from the interview and react/respond with our take on the insights that Coach Patricia provides. There is a ton to unpack, and we may carry our conversation into next week on this as we think more about it. Of course we discuss our drive to 10K for St. Jude. Please be sure to tell anyone you know about this effort and take part if you haven’t. Seriously, do everything you can to amplify the sound on this. We need everyone to know and everyone we can find to take part. Bring On The Riz From there we get Jeff Risdon on the phone. The Riz is his inimitable self and kills it as usual. We have a hilarious and enjoyable conversation that covers the Lions key needs ahead of the draft, what the Lions will be looking at during the draft (Chris declares rounds 2 and three complete pants off moments), and he helps take us ‘Around The Division’ where we share a new intro from the soon to be released Trauma album from I Prevail. Chris is massively in love with the song used here, “Rise Above It”. This isn’t a sponsorship, these are friends. We genuinely love this band, and Trauma is over-the-top amazing. Ep: 202 – Detroit Lions Free Agency Files ft. Tony Ortiz – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case continue to their drive to $10K for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We also discuss Free Agency, bring an angle on Matthew Stafford that you haven’t heard anywhere else, talk about needs for the NFL Draft, and bring on Tony Ortiz, a longtime multi-talented Lions specialist straight off the radio in Detroit. Detroit Lions Podcast Back On The Attack We begin the show talking about new Lions pickup Tommy Lee Lewis. After Chris makes the obligatory Pamela Anderson joke we take a look at what he might bring to the team and where he may be lacking. Also, the Malcolm Brown offer breaks while we are recording and we hit that one a little later in the show. From there Chris brings up a thought process on Matthew Stafford that you haven’t heard anywhere else. It’s an interesting take on how he might be thinking about his career, where his head is at, and what might weigh on his thinking when contract time comes around. Don’t freak out, but it’s another set of data that certainly will weigh in on his decision-making process. This is another time where we think beyond the standard fare on the Detroit Lions Podcast. Of course we discuss our drive to 10K for St. Jude. Please be sure to tell anyone you know about this effort and take part if you haven’t. Next we go into draft mode and discuss the concept of “trading down” and what it would take. We also break down why we might, how we might, and what it might cost based upon different scenarios. Addressing The Lions Biggest Need It was then time to talk about the CB2 position. It’s the talk of the town and the most glaring need for the team at this point. The Detroit Lions Podcast discusses who is available, what they might mean to the team, and how this could wind up playing out for the Lions. We are then pleased to bring Tony Ortiz onto the show. He is an amazing guest that brings some really fresh thinking to how the Lions might be positioning the team and how they may position the players they’ve picked up and where the Lions may be focusing in the draft. Tony is a welcome addition to the Detroit Lions Podcast. Ep: 201 – Lions Begin To Bloom – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case announce the biggest thing they’ve ever undertaken on the show (and they need your help to make it succeed). They break down the latest free agency and draft news, take a look at key dates coming up in the NFL, and Jeff Risdon joins to get down and dirty on the new guys. Detroit Lions Podcast Charity Fundraiser Things kick off with a huge announcement – this starts at the 4:59 mark of the show. Chris and Case, feeling inspired by Coach Patricia and Coach Mariucci, decide it’s time to put the challenge out to the fans to help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Chris, Case, and Sandman have committed to match the first $1,000 of additional donations made to the Detroit Lions Podcast Patreon account, as well as all donations made to the account during the months of March and April. Additionally, they are committing $1 from every shirt sold at the new Detroit Lions Podcast – Pants-Free Products Store to be added to the total donation to St. Jude. Additionally, on March 19th we begin an auction filled with tons of Lions, NFL, and music industry merchandise. 100% of the sale price of each auction item is added to the St. Jude donation. The auction ends on April 25th and winners are announced on the Detroit Lions Podcast Draft Party live stream. Please take a moment and do what you can to help. Families around the world rely on your donations to get them through some of the most difficult times of their lives. Let’s show them how big Lions fans’ hearts really are. If you can’t donate directly, tell everyone you know about this effort. Let’s amplify this message and provide hope to those who desperately need it. Lions Free Agency Moves After that announcement, the huge free agency signings the Lions just made might not seem so big. Trust me, to this organization and its fan base, and the Detroit Lions Podcast, they certainly are. Trey Flowers, Justin Coleman, Jesse James, Danny Amendola, and Zach Zenner so far. The Lions still have money to spend, so there’s sure to be more action. We discuss what we think Bob Quinn is doing, and how we think he’s doing it. We also discuss what these picks might mean for the draft. Then we discuss upcoming key dates in the draft. Then, Case takes us around the division. Lastly, Jeff Risdon rolls in to the Detroit Lions Podcast and goes Marianas Trench deep on these picks. He discusses just how well the Lions did. A great segment from Jeff, again. Ep: 200 – Last Stop Before The Combine – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case break down the latest free agency and draft info, take a look ahead at key dates coming up in the NFL and have Jeff Risdon join us for a walk around the Lions X-Files. Things start off once again with us asking for your input. We have a quick ask of our listeners. This survey will help us to ensure the show is the very best it can be for you, and a great way to give us feedback and be heard. We don’t ask for any personal information, we have no way of contacting you, bothering you, or selling your info. We just want your input so we can be sure that we are hitting all of the marks in bringing you the best show possible. Detroit Lions Podcast Gears Up For The Combine From there the Detroit Lions Podcast takes a final look at free agency before things open up and the signings begin. We also take a quick look at the draft ahead of the combine after which everything will change – at least it seems that way every year. We also take a look at key dates coming up in the NFL. These dates will start rolling through pretty quickly here, so its good to keep them on your radar. We also start talking about our annual draft party. Get ready for a great time again this year! Lastly, we take a quick minute to let everyone know that there won’t be a new Detroit Lions Podcast episode next week. Both Chris and Case are traveling and the logistics involved with getting everyone together were just too much. We’ll be back on March 13th to break down the Lions 2019 free agent signings from the first day of free agency. That being said, be sure to keep an eye on our @DetLionsPodcast twitter account next week, particularly on Monday. Some fun and exciting things are coming, and this is just the beginning. The Riz Brings It Again Last, but not least, we bring a sick Jeff Risdon onto the Detroit Lions Podcast for a mix of Lions X-Files and myth busters with some real talk about Matthew Stafford. The poor guy is living on cough drops, but still brings some interesting content to the discussion. Lastly, we discuss Jeff’s latest mock draft and get a feel for where Jeff thinks the team is at. Ep: 199 – Lions Free Agency ft. Justin Rogers – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case bring the latest news on Matthew Stafford trade rumors and have a *long* chat with Detroit News beat writer and Kyle Meinke owner, Justin Rogers about Lions free agency. Detroit Lions Podcast Needs You! Things start off once again with us asking for your input. We make a quick ask of our listeners to go to http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com/2019-listener-survey and complete a quick survey about the show. This survey is a great way to give feedback and be hears and will help us to ensure the show is the very best it can be. We don’t ask for any personal information, we have no way of contacting you, bothering you, or selling your info. We just want your input so we can be sure that we are hitting all of the marks in bringing you the best show possible. From there we kick off our show with some talk about the Matthew Stafford trade rumors surrounding the team. As usual, the Detroit Lions have some loony unsubstantiated rumors swirling around them. This must be a gas-lighting sociology experiment, right? Now the rumor focuses on a trade of Matthew Stafford to the Dallas Cowboys. It has all the right threads being pulled to make it interesting. Just the right amount of plausibility. Its bunk. We’ll give a few reasons why, but just know, its bunk. There are a few more rumors being bandied about that we’ll break down with the Riz next week. You’ll love/hate that episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, we promise. We also spend some time talking about the release of Glover Quinn. He’s a player that the team, fans, and the city as a whole will miss. A high quality player, and high character guy. Unfortunately, its one of the realities to contend with. Age takes a little away from us every year and unfortunately, one of our all-time favs in Glover is the latest victim. Justin Rogers Joins The Detroit Lions Podcast We spend over 3/4 of the next hour talking with Detroit Lions beat writer, Justin Rogers. In this in-depth look at free agency, we have a lot of fun (mostly at Case’s expense) talking about how the Lions might fill their biggest needs. We take a look at Trey Flowers, Darqueze Dennard, Morris Claiborne, and a whole lot more. To be fair the Detroit Lions Podcast takes Justin into the draft a little bit before he promises to come back and discuss that on a show in the near future. We also talk trades, coaching moves, differences he’s seeing in the coaching staff, and what has happened in the press room as its changed from the “Dungeon of Doom” in Caldwell’s era to where it is today. Justin brings a lot of candor to this situation and helps us to understand it from both sides of the podium. Ep: 198 – Lions Draft Talk & Groundhog Gabriel – The Detroit Lions Podcast
EIn this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case come back after a week-long break to give you your favorite Detroit Lions content. We kick off with some talk about the Draft, and let you know where our minds are in regards to the number eight pick for the Lions. We also discuss the Season Ticket Member Summit and the news that came out of that. From there we touch on a few different topics, but the most important takeaway for anyone who listens is Groundhog Gabriel. Know it, live it, love it. Detroit Lions Podcast Listener Survey 2019 Things start off with us asking a favor of our listeners. Maybe not the standard way of kicking a show off, but we are as non-standard as they come. We make a quick ask of our listeners to go to http://DetroitLionsPodcast.com/2019-listener-survey and complete a quick 3 minute survey about the show. This survey will help us to ensure the show is the very best it can be for you, and a great way to give us feedback and be heard. We don’t ask for any personal information, we have no way of contacting you, bothering you, or selling your info. We just want your input so we can be sure that we are hitting all of the marks in bringing you the best Detroit Lions Podcast possible. That was like a minute of the show – definitely took longer to read/type than talk about – after that, its football time. We dive straight into the draft talk. This show we take a look at the Tight End position. We discuss who the top tier candidates are and where we might want to take them. What’s the risk of a tight End at 8th overall, and are there any reasons it could make sense? We then talk about the “safe” or likely pick for the Detroit Lions in the first round. After that, Chris talks about another interesting candidate that may be more of a high risk/high reward type of grab. Season Ticket Member Summit Next we discuss the Season ticket Member Summit on the Detroit Lions Podcast. We start by discussing Bob Quinn saying he’s willing to take a Quarterback in the draft. It was something that drew a lot of discussion and fire from dissenters. Definitely worth discussing. Also, Tim Twentyman had a great article on DetroitLions.com in which he shares 10 takeaways from Darrell Bevell, Paul Pasqualoni, and John Bonamego. It’s a great article that lends itself to some discussion and we share our reactions to his points. As a result of one of the points made, Chris decides that Da’Shawn Hand, Damon “Snacks” Harrison, and A’Shawn Robinson need to be named DaDA – because they can stand across any offensive line and ask, “Who’s your DaDA?” From there we take on a number of shorter, “Quick Hit”, types of topics. One of which deserves to be seared in your memory. You need to listen to this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast and commit “Groundhog Gabriel” to your memory. Hell, make it a hashtag, #Groundhog Gabriel. Someone just saw their shadow.
