Iran-Backed Militants Killed 3 Soldiers. Here's How the US Should Respond
President Joe Biden says the U.S. “shall respond” after a drone attack Sunday left three U.S. Army soldiers dead and more than 30 others wounded at a base in Jordan. Iran-backed militias were reported to be responsible for the deadly drone attack, and in response, Robert Greenway says, the U.S. needs to make Iran “feel the cost” of its actions. (Iran denied any responsibility for the attack.) Greenway, director of the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation, says the attacks will continue if Iran does not feel swift and certain consequences. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) Greenway, who served on the National Security Council in the Trump administration, says he would advise Biden, first, to “stop paying them [Iran] money. Two, we need to stop paying other governments money that ends up in the hands of perpetrators like Kataib Hezbollah.” And finally, Greenways says, the "[Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] serving officers, the arm of the Iranian government that executes these attacks … need to be attacked, and they need to be held accountable for the attacks.” Greenway joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share what we know about the attack on the U.S. base in Jordan and how the Biden administration is likely to respond. Strive Offers Investors Alternative to ESG-Driven Companies
In the investment and financial services industry, companies like BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard are dominate players. But they’re also increasingly beholden to stakeholder activism. That’s resulted in a greater focus on leftist ideas like DEI—diversity, equity, and inclusion—and ESG—environmental, social, and corporate governance. Strive takes a different approach. It’s focused on maximizing value for investors—and it’s having great success. Today, Strive has over $1 billion in assets—just two years after its founding. On today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast," Strive's CEO and chief investment officer explains the company's mission and why it's thriving. In Israel: Sounds of War Mingle With Songs of Life
Bullet holes and toppled furniture bear witness to what happened in the home of one young couple living in Israel close to the border with Gaza on Oct. 7. Their home still partially stands, but they—and about 100 other members of their small community—are dead. Walking through the streets of the small village, Joel Griffith says, “You could tell it once was a very beautiful place.” Griffith, who is Jewish and serves as a research fellow in the Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation, recently returned from a trip to Israel. His mission was both to “support, but also bear witness to the evil” that took place in Israel on Oct. 7 when Hamas carried out a brutal terrorist attack that killed about 1,200 people. Walking out of the home of the slain couple, Griffith says, he saw two “Jewish men playing guitar and singing, and gathered around them were others—soldiers, non-soldiers, Israelis, non-Israelis (such as myself), people who were religious, people who visibly weren't religious, but all gathered together singing.” One of the songs they sang, according to Griffith, was “Am Yisrael Chai,” which translates to “The people of Israel live.” Standing there singing in a “place where so many lives were lost” and with “gunfire” and the sounds of “artillery” in the background, “was a powerful moment,” he says. Griffith joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss what he saw and heard in Israel three months after the Hamas terrorist attack. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. One Mission: Serve Navy SEALs' Kids With Learning Disabilities
Navy SEAL deployments are often long and grueling, and leaving school-age children behind only adds to the challenge, especially if the children are struggling in school. If a father is “getting ready to go on mission, and there's Timmy failing in second grade, that's all he's going to think about,” says Gretchen McIntosh, the executive director of SEALKIDS. And for the mothers at home with a husband deployed and a child struggling academically, McIntosh says, Mom is often “stressed out” by the task of meeting the needs of a “child at home that has a learning disability.” Out of seeing an immense need for additional educational support for many Navy SEAL families, the organization SEALKIDS was born. “SEALKIDS steps in so that Dad can concentrate on his mission ahead, because we're handling the mission at home,” McIntosh explains. SEALKIDS not only connects families to tutors and other education resources in their area, but also raises funds to help the families pay for those additional resources. SEALKIDS is active in 17 states and is serving 390 kids this year, with a focus on helping children with learning disabilities. McIntosh joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” during National School Choice Week to share the stories of the families the organization has helped and to explain how it hopes to expand its work to serve even more SEAL families. Taiwan Elected a New President. He Faces Big China Challenges
Taiwan’s new president has his work cut out for him, Michael Cunningham says. “He’s not in an easy position,” Cunningham, a research fellow in the Asian Studies Center of The Heritage Foundation, says of President-elect Lai Ching-te. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) “Beijing deeply distrusts” the political party Lai is a member of because China’s leaders think that party is “intent on seeking formal independence from China,” Cunningham says. While it’s likely Lai will maintain the status quo and not seek formal independence from China, Cunningham predicts China will continue applying pressure to Taiwan. During his presidency, Lai, 64, is “probably going to have to constantly be responding to provocations by Beijing,” he said. Lai, currently vice president, takes office May 20. Cunningham was in Taiwan during the election on Jan. 13 and joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why Taiwan’s freedom directly affects America. He also explains why he thinks it’s unlikely China will launch a full-scale invasion of Taiwan anytime in the near future. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Biologist vs. Southern Poverty Law Center
Ph.D. biologist Colin Wright is publicly inviting the Southern Poverty Law Center to debate him on the subject of what the SPLC calls "anti-LGBTQ+ pseudoscience," specifically on the transgender issue. The SPLC released a 41,000-word report claiming that "the controversy over trans health care is manufactured to reinforce both white supremacy and the political goals of the Christian Right." The report claims to reveal "anti-LGBTQ+ pseudoscience," but it does not seriously address the concerns of critics of the transgender movement. The report mentions Wright, a Manhattan Institute fellow, as part of the movement pushing "pseudoscience." "It's almost not really worth responding to," Wright tells "The Daily Signal Podcast" of the SPLC report. "It is such a poor, poorly put together document, riddled with typos." "Most importantly, it justs makes all these accusations that I'm peddling 'pseudoscience,' that type of thing," he adds. "It doesn't engage with any of the actual arguments and the substance of what I'm saying, or what anyone else mentioned in the report is saying. There's not really anything to respond to." He calls the report "completely ridiculous." "It's purely just a smear piece," Wright says. "They just want to garner attention and stir outrage." Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Mississippi AG Lynn Fitch Introduces App Connecting Moms to Resources
Expectant mothers in Mississippi now can access resources to receive essentials, from food and clothing to child care and financial assistance, through a mobile app dubbed MAMA. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch on Tuesday unveiled the Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance mobile app, or MAMA, to connect moms easily with the resources they need to care for their children. Mothers or pregnant women now can "find not only the public resources that are available but private resources and faith-based resources, all in one place," Fitch says of the new tool. "And that is so significant for young mothers to be able to find things that they need, questions they might have, all together." Fitch led the way on the legal case out of Mississippi called Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which ultimately led the Supreme Court in June 2022 to overturn its 1973 decision on abortion in Roe v. Wade. A year and a half later, Fitch says, the pro-life movement is working hard to provide women with easy access to what they need to choose life for their children. "Remember, we asked the court to give the responsibilities to us," Fitch says of arguments made to the Supreme Court in the Dobbs case. "So we're now embracing that. It is so important that we talk about it, we take action, we implement things that are important for these young mothers, mothers-to-be, and these children." Fitch joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how the MAMA mobile app can serve as a model tool for other states, as well as to celebrate the 51st annual March for Life, which takies place Friday in Washington, D.C. Back From Israel: Morgan Ortagus Recounts Stories of Trauma
Israeli leaders such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “look like shells of their former selves,” commentator Morgan Ortagus says, following meetings in Israel earlier this month. But Ortagus, who was State Department spokesperson under President Donald Trump, says the weariness extends to the people of Israel, many of whom remain “traumatized” from the Hamas terrorist attacks Oct. 7. “The very existence of the state of Israel is threatened whenever they are attacked,” she says, adding, “It's a tiny country. It's a tiny people." "So when they are attacked, it's existential to their surviva," Ortagus says. "And we of course know that more Jews were killed on Oct. 7 than on any other day since the Holocaust. So I know that has to weigh with the leadership.” As host of “The Morgan Ortagus Show,” a new Sunday offering on SiriusXM Patriot, the former State Department official is using her platform, and her nearly two decades of national security experience, to communicate the history of tension in the Middle East and what America's role should be. Ortagus joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what she learned after meeting with Netantahu and other senior leaders in Israel and Saudi Arabia, and visiting some of the kibbutzim where Hamas terrorists tortured, raped, and slaughtered Israelis on Oct. 7. USA Boxing’s New Transgender Rule Could ‘Kill a Woman,’ Coach Warns
USA Boxing has changed its rules to allow men who identify as women to compete in the female category, a change that coach Cary Williams warns could be deadly. Even one man competing against women is “all it takes to do damage; that’s all it takes to kill a woman,” says Williams, a USA Olympic-level female boxing coach. “I’m extremely scared for the safety of our girls and our women in boxing,” she told “The Daily Signal Podcast.” The new policy requires males to meet specific hormone levels and to have undergone surgery to “alter” their gender. But Williams says the new policy does not acknowledge that men have “larger hearts, larger lungs, bone density, strength.” “You’re talking about muscle-fiber differences. Those are all something we’re born with,” she says. Williams, the founder of women’s fight-gear brand Tussle, joins the show to discuss USA Boxing’s rule change and what she thinks female boxers should do to stand up against the dangerous policy. Trump Won Iowa. Political Insider Explains Why
The polls didn't lie. Former President Donald Trump was projected to be the winner of the Iowa caucuses Monday night just about 30 minutes after they began. In the polls, Trump had a 30-point lead, give or take, over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as Iowans arrived at their caucus locations at 7 p.m. local time. Following his win, Trump told Fox News Digital that he is “greatly honored by such an early call." "It really is an honor that, minutes after, they’ve announced I’ve won—against very credible competition—great competition, actually," Trump said. Eli Huber, Iowa state director of Heritage Action for America, told “The Daily Signal Podcast” he is not surprised by the caucus results. “Based off my conversations with activists all around the state of Iowa, I'm not really surprised that President Trump, despite now being nearly four years since he was in office, continues to have a lot of the same energy that we saw back in 2020,” Huber says. New Hampshire voters will head to the polls Jan. 23 to cast their ballots in the first primary of the 2024 election, followed by South Carolina voters on Feb. 24. Huber joins the show to discuss the results of the Iowa caucuses, and the leading issues on the minds of voters as they begin casting ballots for the Republican 2024 presidential nominee. Hungary and a ‘Last Warning to the West’
For years, especially during the Cold War, Hungary looked to America as an example of freedom, but now it might be time for the U.S. to take notes from Hungary, according to Shea Bradley-Farrell. Bradley-Farrell, president of the Counterpoint Institute for Policy, Research and Education, recently spent several months in Hungary doing research for her new book. While in the European nation formerly controlled by the then-Soviet Union, Bradley-Farrell says she found herself often having a similar conversation with Hungarians. “Hungarians told me over and over, ‘the rhetoric coming out of the United States reminds us of our Soviet era,’” Bradley-Farrell recalled. “And the more I dug into that, the more that I realized that the things that we’re dealing with here and the so-called progressive agenda, the woke agenda, the Biden administration, they’re directly out of the playbook of communism,” she says. In her new book, “Last Warning to the West: Hungary’s Triumph Over Communism and the Woke Agenda,” Bradley-Farrell explains a roadmap for how America can correct course and learn from our friends in Hungary at this moment in history. Bradley-Farrell joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the book and share the stories of conversation she had in Hungary. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Can Higher Education Be Saved?
Claudine Gay resigned Jan. 2 as Harvard’s president following outrage over antisemitism at the Ivy League school and amid claims that Gay plagiarized in her academic writings. Her resignation provides higher education institutions an opportunity to reconsider the leftist agenda-laden waters most “elite” colleges and universities swim in. As more people realize the true agenda of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, Cornell law professor William Jacobson says they see that “we now need to get rid of DEI.” But a big hurdle is that DEI officers and those employed at universities to promote the DEI agenda are “everywhere on campuses, and they're gonna fight for their jobs,” Jacobson says, adding that “a lot of money is involved here.” Asked whether he thinks higher education can be saved, Jacobson tells “The Daily Signal Podcast” it's a question he wrestles with. “I don't know if academia can be saved,” Jacobson says. “And I've said many times, for many years, it certainly cannot be reformed from within.” Jacobson joins the podcast to explain how antisemitism at Cornell, Harvard, and other elite colleges and universities has shone a light on the harms of the DEI agenda and how there may still be a way for higher education to move away from a radical leftist agenda. Ohio's DeWine Rushed to Ban Trans Surgeries After Vetoing a Bill Outlawing Them. Why?
On Friday, Ohio's Republican governor, Mike DeWine, issued an “emergency” executive order to ban sex-reassignment surgeries for minors just one week after he vetoed a bill that would have banned those same surgeries and addressed related issues. The General Assembly is expected to begin the process of overriding his veto Wednesday. Why did DeWine sign the order so quickly after vetoing the bill? Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, chairman of the medical reform group Do No Harm, offered an explanation. In his interview with "The Daily Signal Podcast," he points to a video revealing a Cincinnati gender clinic as the reason DeWine moved to issue the order so quickly after vetoing the bill. Why Iran Is at Center of Middle East Conflict
Hamas and Israel have been at war for three months. The Houthis are firing rockets at ships in the Red Sea. Lebanon is firing rockets into Israel. And internal violence is growing in Iran between Sunni and Shiite Muslims. As tension builds in the Middle East, the most common thread in the conflict is Iran, according to Victoria Coates, former deputy national security advisor to President Donald Trump. There are three Iranian-sponsored terrorist groups beginning with “H” in the region, Coates explains—to include Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah. Consider the attack on Israel alone. “Hamas doesn't have the capability to do this on their own. They needed the help from Hezbollah. They needed the help ultimately from Iran in terms of equipment and intelligence and so on,” says Coates, who currently serves as vice president of the Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s news outlet.) The Biden administration has failed to take strategic action against Iran, Coates says. Meanwhile, “there have been closer to 150 attacks on the part of these various Iranian proxy groups on U.S. installations and people” since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7. Coates joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why the Biden administration has not taken consistent strategic action against Iran and to address the threat of all-out war in the Middle East. Why Colorblindness Is a Virtue
Martin Luther King Jr. and Frederick Douglass were both dedicated to bringing about an America that was colorblind, Andre Archie says, but their work is being undermined. “When I say colorblind, it's not naive at all,” says Archie, an author and professor at Colorado State University. “It speaks to a tradition that we find with MLK, with Frederick Douglass, with the Founders, right, in principle. We also find it in the Western philosophical tradition; so, my goal is to rehabilitate that.” In his new book, “The Virtue of Color-Blindness,” Archie explains how what he calls the “cult” of diversity, equity and inclusion has harmed society and is contrary to the vision of America’s greatest civil rights leaders, and what can be done about it. Archie joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the role conservatives must play in restoring a vision of a colorblind America. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Climate Series Part 3: Should We Be Concerned Over Climate Change?
The climate is changing, but is the change cause for concern? “There are natural climate cycles, which are normal,” research scientist Roy Spencer says, adding that “If you move beyond the temperature to things like storminess, you know, hurricane activity, there have been no demonstrable, long-term changes in anything other than a modest, relatively benign increase in temperature." When it comes to climate change, Spencer, a meteorologist and research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, says he's “been hearing the rhetoric and the fearmongering since the 1970s.” Asked if he personally worries about climate change, Spencer says: “No, if I was seriously worried about it, you know, I'd be worried for my children's future and my grandchildren's future. And I'm not.” “I'm more worried about what our government is doing on a number of fronts, including regulatory mandates, which is going to make life much more expensive for them and therefore reduce their standard of living,” adds Spencer, who has researched climate change for 40 years. The “natural fluctuations in weather are normal,” argues Spencer, currently a visiting fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s news outlet.) Spencer joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” for the final episode of a three-part series on climate change. In it, he explains what we know and don't know about the root causes of climate change and the appropriate response to a changing climate. Spencer also provides insight into how the climate may change in coming years. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. Climate Series Part 2: Causes of Climate Change
The scientific community doesn't all agree on the core causes of climate change, and according to climate expert Willie Soon, humanity should look beyond Earth to find the source. The Earth’s rotation around the sun affects the planet’s temperature, says Soon, a visiting fellow on the Science Advisory Committee of the Center for Energy, Climate and Environment at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) Glaciers, for example, “melted away because the sun started to get … brighter and provided more solar energy to the climate system,” according to Soon. Throughout his career, Soon, a former researcher with the Center for Astrophysics-Harvard & Smithsonian, says he has sought to pursue the facts surrounding shifts in the climate because "science is not about belief." "Science is about data," he said. Many people think that it is “rising carbon dioxide that is the main factor … that affects climate change, and that is wholly untrue,” Soon says. “That is such a distorted view that I think it needs to be corrected.” Soon joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” for part two of a three-part series discussing climate change. In part one, expert David Legates explained the history of climate change. On today’s show, Soon explains why he thinks the sun is the source of the changing climate and how the sun affects the Earth’s cycles of warming and cooling. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Climate Series Part 1: History of Climate Change
Climate change has strayed from being a scientific conversation to a hot-button political debate. But what are the facts surrounding climate change? Is climate change real? And if it is, what is causing the climate to change? Do we need to live in fear of climate change? In a three-part "Daily Signal Podcast" series, experts in the fields of climate and meteorology join the show to explain the history of climate change, its root causes and the appropriate response to it. Here in episode one, David Legates—a visiting fellow with the Science Advisory Committee in the Center for Energy, Climate and Environment at The Heritage Foundation and a former director of the Center for Climatic Research at the University of Delaware, explains the history of climate change. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) According to Legates, “the climate is changing because it always has changed, and it always will change.” “We've gone through periods of lots of tornadoes, for example, and then a period where we have almost none,” Legates says. “We've gone through periods where we have lots of hurricanes. We have floods, we have droughts. We go through periodic cycles. So, the climate is sort of the backdrop on which weather plays its randomness, if you want. So, climate does change, always has changed, and as far as I'm concerned, always will change.” Legates goes on to explain what is known about climate change through the ages and the similarities between climate change patterns today and those seen in the past. Biggest Priorities for Congress in 2024
The House will be back in session on Jan. 9, and the new leader of the House Freedom Caucus says border security will be a top priority when they return. “Of the many crises that this president and these Democrats have created that the country is suffering under now,” says Rep. Bob Good, the newly elected chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, “the border … may be the greatest issue, the greatest crises of all.” The Freedom Caucus represents the most conservative faction of Republicans in the House of Representatives, and Good, R-Va., assumed the position of chairman at the start of the new year, succeeding Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa. Good joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the top priorities for the House Freedom Caucus in 2024, and what kind of pressure he and the caucus are prepared to use to force action on border security. “I think it's a position of merit to say, again, the border is our greatest crisis,” Good said. “Irreparable harm has been done, is being done by this president, and at some point, the House should exercise its power of the purse and say 'no more.'” Enjoy the show! Best of 2023: Baroness Cox on One Woman’s Mission to Help the Persecuted
Between Christmas and New Years, The Daily Signal is looking back at the most popular interviews from the year. Enjoy episode four of our "Best of 2023" series! Baroness Caroline Cox has a long history of service in public office, but her passion for justice has led her not only to Great Britain’s House of Lords but to war-torn, poverty-stricken nations around the world. “The mission is to work for people who are suffering oppression and persecution in areas which are largely unreached by the major aid organizations like the [United Nations],” Cox says of the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust, which she leads. Cox, who joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast,” says her organization intentionally goes where others can’t because the U.N., for example, “can only go places with permission of a sovereign government.” The work is “risky” but also a “privilege,” says Cox, who is an independent member of the House of Lords who served as deputy speaker there from 1985 to 2005. “The majority we work with happen to be Christians because Christians are suffering a lot of persecution around the world today,” Cox says. The Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust also works with Muslims who are suffering in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, as well as with Buddhists in Myanmar (formerly Burma), she notes. On the podcast, Cox also talks about her fight for the rights of Muslim women who are forced to live under Sharia law in the United Kingdom, as well as her advocacy work for persecuted religious groups across the globe. She also describes the response in the U.K. to the Israel-Hamas war. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. Best of 2023: ’Tucker,’ the Biography by Chadwick Moore
Between Christmas and New Years, The Daily Signal is looking back at the most popular interviews from the year. Enjoy episode three of our "Best of 2023" series! Chadwick Moore appeared on the final episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on that fateful night in April, just days before Fox News abruptly canceled the show April 24. Long before taping that interview with Carlson, Moore began work on his biography. It tells the story of the former CNN and MSNBC host who anchored the top-rated primetime show on Fox News for seven years. But the book is about more than Carlson’s TV career. Best of 2023: Dr. Aaron Kheriaty on How Governments Abused COVID-19 to Gain Power
Between Christmas and New Years, The Daily Signal is looking back at the most popular interviews from the year. Enjoy episode two of our "Best of 2023" series! Many COVID-19 restrictions and mandates have been rolled back, but the infrastructure remains in place, “ready and waiting for the next declared public health crisis,” Dr. Aaron Kheriaty says. Kheriaty, a psychiatrist who directs the Bioethics and American Democracy program at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, chose to speak out against the COVID-19 vaccine mandates, That decision cost him his job at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine. Kheriaty says he is concerned that the "pretext of public health and safety has proven to be a good fulcrum, a good lever to get people to do things that otherwise they would be very reluctant to do." "It's also been an occasion for the accumulation of power, mostly by the executive branch of government," he says. In his new book "The New Abnormal: The Rise of the Biomedical Security State,” Kheriaty details the ways in which governments past and present have used public health crises to gain power. Kheriaty joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss how, unless placed in check, the government will use public health orders to further its own agenda, whether about COVID-19, climate change, or abortion. History of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’
In many homes across the country, it’s not Christmas without sitting down to watch an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol." But according to Hillsdale College professor of English Dwight Lindley, many of the film versions fail to relay the full, rich message Dickens sought to portray in the 1843 novel. “A Christmas Carol” is “actually about the incarnation of Christ,” Lindley says. Dickens, according to Lindley, takes Scrooge on a journey of becoming more childlike so that he can come to a place “where he can meet God.” The story intends to call to mind the biblical passage in Mark 9 that says, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me, but the one who sent me.” Lindley explains that the invitation in the novel is for Scrooge to receive Tiny Tim, and in so doing, receive Christ. Lindley joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the history of why Dickens wrote the novel, and the rich biblical themes woven through “A Christmas Carol.” Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Pro-Life Home Serves Mothers Who Are ‘Alone in the World’
Home. For all of us, the word brings images to mind. Home is meant to be a place of comfort and safety, but for some women facing unplanned pregnancies, this isn't the case. And that's why St. Gianna and Pietro Molla Home in Warsaw, North Dakota, exists. “There are so many people who really are alone in the world who might not, in North Dakota, be on the streets homeless, but maybe they're living coach the coach,” says Mary Pat Jahner, director of the North Dakota home. “Maybe they have family, but ... there would not be a means for gas money to [go to] an appointment or to get a car seat or things like that. So, you know, those are the people that we serve, the people who are alone in the world,” Jahner, founder of the St. Gianna and Pietro Molla Home, explains. For 20 years, the large residence has provided expectant and new mothers with a place not only to find safety and provision, but also community and the love of Christ during and after their pregnancies. “We live as a family,” Jahner says of the home for mothers. “We just have a few moms at a time and give them as much love during their time here as we can.” Jahner joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share the mission of the St. Gianna and Pietro Molla Home, as well as stories of the women who have found refuge at the home over the years. This Israeli Community Experienced a Miracle on Oct. 7
The agricultural Israeli community of Ein HaBesor experienced a miracle on Oct. 7. Located just 3 miles from the border with Gaza and home to 320 families, the people of Ein HaBesor were targeted by Hamas terrorists just like so many other communities along the border that day. But miraculously, not a single person from Ein HaBesor was killed or taken hostage. The community had shortly beforehand activated its security team after some theft, which unknowingly prepared them for the events on Oct. 7, as they successfully fought off the terrorists. But the people of Ein HaBesor have been evacuated from their homes because the community is in a war zone. About 60% of Israel's produce comes from the region, and without hands to care for and harvest the crops, all of Israel stands to be affected. CityServe International, a nonprofit aid organization, is stepping in to help Ein HaBesor in an effort to ensure that more than half of Israel’s produce is not lost, and is inviting churches across America to join its efforts. “Most people going to Israel that are of the Christian faith, they go there to take from Israel,” says Todd Lamphere, vice president of government relations at CityServe. “I don't mean that in a bad way. I just simply mean that they're there to look at the sites, to see where Jesus died, where He was buried, where He was baptized, to get baptized in the Jordan, to do all of those things.” “What we're saying is, let's continue to do those, but let's take three or four or five days, and let's go to the fields, and let's serve the nation of Israel by helping them harvest their crops,” he said. Lamphere joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how Americans can either join a trip to Israel to help harvest crops, or can be a part of partnering with the organization as it seeks to meet the needs of the Jewish people at this time.
