Katharine Gorka on the Next Generation of Marxism

The protests in the summer of 2020 after George Floyd’s death in police custody and today's antisemitic, pro-Palestine protests on college campuses are rooted in the same ideology of Marxism, Katharine Gorka says. Marxism preaches that the world "is divided between oppressor and oppressed,” says Gorka, co-author with Heritage Foundation scholar Mike Gonzalez of the new book “NextGen Marxism: What It Is and How to Combat It.” (Heritage launched The Daily Signal in 20014.) German-born philosopher Karl Marx believed that the oppressors were the business owners and the oppressed were the workers. But Gorka says that Marxism today, or “NextGen Marxism,” holds that the “oppressors are white, Americans, Israelis, [but] some Asians … kind of the successful." "And the oppressed is everybody else, right?" she asks rhetorically. "Anybody who's a minority of any sort, whether it's based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, [or] having once been colonized.” This movement of Marxism today has its roots in the 1960s, Gorka explains, as the student activists of those says became the community organizers who influence young people today, often via social media. Gorka joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to outline the progression of Marxism and to discuss philanthropy's significant role in furthering Marxist ideology in America. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Mary Margaret Olohan Pulls Back Curtain on ‘Gender Ideology Cult’

The cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and surgeries being prescribed to young people struggling with their gender identity are “experimental,” according to Mary Margaret Olohan. “We don't actually know what kind of effects that the puberty blockers and hormones are having on these young people,” Olohan says of women and men who attempt to change their bodies to appear as the opposite sex. In her new book “Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult,” Olohan shares the stories of detransitioners, such as Prisha Mosley. As a young woman, Mosley took testosterone and had a double mastectomy before she chose to detransition and return to living as a female. Now an adult, she is expecting a child, but will never be able to breastfeed her baby. “I'm very happy for her and glad to see that she is able to bring new life into the world,” Olohan says of Mosley, but added that “we don't know if other people will be able to do the same. ” “There are people who have found that they are infertile now, due to the testosterone or the hormones” they took, she says. Olohan, who is also a senior reporter for The Daily Signal, joins the podcast to explain how so many young people are being lured into the “gender ideology cult,” and what happens to a male or female body when taking cross-sex hormones or puberty blockers. China Abducted Her Uyghur Sister When She Spoke Out Against Persecution

Rushan Abbas, a Muslim Uyghur living in America, delivered remarks at the Hudson Institute in 2018 about China’s persecution of Uyghurs. Six days later, her sister was arrested by the Chinese government. “My freedom of speech in America as an American citizen, my First Amendment right, cost my own sister's freedom,” Abbas, founder and executive director of Campaign for Uyghurs, says. Abbas describes her sister as someone who was living an “ordinary life.” “She's not famous. She's not an educator. She never traveled to any of the Muslim-majority countries. But yet, [the] last five years and nine months, that she's in jail now,” says Abbas, who was born in China but moved to America 35 years ago. The Chinese Communist Party views “anything that's different as a threat,” Abbas says. “So, the Uyghurs believing in religion and speaking a different language and … having completely unique cultural differences—all this the Chinese government is taking as a threat.” Since her sister was imprisoned in China, Abbas quit her job and began advocating full time for the freedom of Uyghurs just like her sister. She joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why the Chinese Communist Party is persecuting Uyghurs and what Americans can do to help. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Why Climate Agenda Puts America in ‘Chinese Handcuffs'

China is intentionally advancing a climate agenda for its own gain, and America is allowing it to happen, according to a senior research fellow for international affairs at The Heritage Foundation’s Asian Studies Center. China has “taken advantage of the United States, because we’ve had this very driven climate agenda,” Heritage’s Erin Walsh says. (Heritage founded The Daily Signal in 2014.) The development of solar energy, for example, began in America, and then the Chinese developed it further, and now China controls the “entire supply chain, so you can’t be involved unless you’re purchasing some goods from China to make your solar panels,” Walsh explained, adding that the same is true for wind turbines, and for batteries and electric vehicles. Right now with respect to EV batteries, "they’ve got the dominant control of the supply chain.” The more the U.S. and other nations move toward use of wind and solar energy, and electric vehicles, the further China’s economy benefits and America’s economy and national security are put at risk, according to Walsh. Walsh joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss her work on Heritage’s new project, “Chinese Handcuffs: How China Exploits America’s Climate Agenda.” Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. ‘Federal Overreach’: Lawsuit Aims to Stop Biden’s Title IX Rule Change

After the Biden administration released its new Title IX rule on April 19, it took less than two weeks for the Defense of Freedom Institute to file a lawsuit against it. “We are asking the court to … basically stop the effect of the regulations for a variety of legal reasons," says Robert Eitel, the institute's co-founder and president. That's because the rule change is “simply unlawful,” he explained. Among the changes to Title IX, the Biden administration is attempting to redefine sex to include gender identity and sexual orientation. Title IX is an education amendment that was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1972 and requires there be equal opportunities for men and women in schools across the country. Eitel says the Biden administration’s attempt to redefine sex in Title IX is “federal overreach.” The states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, and Idaho filed the suit with the Washington-based Defense of Freedom Institute, a conservative nonprofit dedicated to providing policy and legal solutions within the spheres of education and the workforce. Eitel joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the lawsuit against the Biden administration’s new Title IX rule. He also explains what should be done about the ever-growing issue of student loan debt, and why President Joe Biden can’t legally issue mass student loan forgiveness. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Warning From Knesset Member: Those Who Attack Israel ‘Are After the US Just the Same’

Terrorists in the Middle East do not despise America only because the U.S. supports Israel, but because America is a Western society, according to Simcha Rothman, a member of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. “But people that attack us, they are after the U.S. just the same,” Rothman says. “The chant in Iran—‘Death to America, Death to Israel’—it’s not a typo that America comes first,” Rothman asserts, adding that terrorists in the Middle East view Israel “as part of Western society that is stuck in the middle of the Middle East.” Because Western ideals threaten the radical ideology Islamic terrorists hold, this makes Israel, and America, an enemy, according to the Knesset member. Within the Knesset, Rothman serves as the chairman of the Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee and as a co-chairman of the “Land of Israel” caucus. Rothman joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss what is driving the anti-Israel protests on America’s college campuses, where the hostage negotiations stand between Israel and Hamas, and how Israel should navigate the ongoing war with Hamas to ensure there is not another Oct. 7-style attack. Sen. Marshall: Why He Voted NO on $60 Billion for Ukraine

Sen. Roger Marshall was one of only 15 Republican senators who voted against sending an additional $60 billion to Ukraine for its war against Russia. “One of my jobs is to prioritize where we're spending the money,” Marshall says. “And I'm telling you, until we secure the border, I don't think we should be spending any money outside of this country, let alone on what I'm describing as really Ukraine's … never-ending war.” The Senate passed the foreign aid package, which totaled $95 billion and included aid for Israel and Taiwan, on April 23. Marshall says that six times he “brought to the Senate floor stand-alone funding for Israel—the opportunity to fund just Israel, to take these issues one at a time. Six times the Democrats blocked that opportunity.” “The Democrats used Israel as leverage to get their votes for Ukraine,” the Kansas senator said. Marshall joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss what America’s relationship with Ukraine should look like over the course of the next year. The senator also addresses the ongoing pro-Palestinian protests on America’s university campuses and what similarities can be drawn between these protests and the anti-war protests at colleges in the 1960s and 1970s. Unraveling the Damage Done by Our Welfare System

Education, employment, and family formation are “the building blocks for a flourishing life,” says the leader of the Georgia Center for Opportunity. But, unfortunately, America’s welfare system includes penalties for both work and family formation, Randy Hicks says. Although the safety net may not intend to punish work or the family, Hicks says, it does that through policies that reward Americans with financial benefits for earning less or remaining single. Among all the states, Utah has created a model for a strong welfare system, he says. Utah integrated its workforce services with welfare services in the 1990s, so when an individual seeks government assistance, the first step is to help him re-enter the workforce, if he is able, before providing monetary benefits. But around the year 2000, the federal government passed a law that made it almost impossible for states to integrate workforce and welfare services as Utah did. To change this situation, Hicks says, the Georgia Center for Opportunity and the Alliance for Opportunity advocate congressional legislation to "give states the flexibility to do what Utah did: integrate workforce and welfare so that we're not compartmentalizing someone's life but viewing it holistically and viewing it all as simply a means to a flourishing life that includes work.” Hicks joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the path to restoring the value of education, work, and family in America. Arabella Network's Leftist 'Dark Money' Influence Expanding, Author Reveals

The left-wing Arabella Advisors network has raked in more money than either of the two major political parties and affects almost every element of public policy and elections, argues Scott Walter, president of the Capital Research Center, a Washington-based investigative think tank. Walter's new book “Arabella: The Dark Money Network of Leftist Billionaires Secretly Transforming America” shows that in the 2020 election cycle, Arabella Advisors' nonprofits took in $2.4 billion. That's $1 billion more than the combined fundraising of the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee. That amount rose to $3 billion in the 2022 election cycle, Walter says. Moreover, he adds, nothing on the Right comes close to competing. Listen to Walter outline Arabella's reach in a discussion of his book on today's podcast. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. 101 of Trump’s Presidential Immunity Case Before Supreme Court

The nine Supreme Court justices have a major question before them. Is a current or former president immune from prosecution? Former President Donald Trump is facing prosecution for alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Trump argues that his actions as president are protected from prosecution under presidential immunity. Trump lawyer John Sauer argued Thursday before the Supreme Court that unless a president is first impeached and convicted by the Senate, he is immune from prosecution, explains John Malcolm, senior legal fellow and vice president for the Institute for Constitutional Government at The Heritage Foundation. (Heritage founded The Daily Signal in 2014.) Now, Malcolm says, the justices have to answer three questions in order to make a decision in the Trump case: One, is there a blanket immunity for a president's official actions because he was not impeached and convicted by the Senate? Two, what is a private action and what is an official action? And three, if the court rejects John Sauer’s, absolute immunity argument, will there be any other kind of immunity that might attach to an official action? Malcolm joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. What's Really Driving the Antisemitic Protests on College Campuses

Pro-Palestine protests on the campuses of some of America's most elite colleges have resulted in hundreds of arrests and led Columbia University in New York to move classes online for the remainder of the semester. The pro-Hamas, anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, Yale, and New York University aren't just representative of an “antisemitic movement,” but a “fundamentally an anti-Western and anti-American movement,” Bill Jacobson says. Jacobson, a Cornell University law professor and the founder of Legal Insurrection and the Equal Protection Project, joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain who or what is driving the antisemitism on America’s college campuses. Jacobson points to the activist organization National Students for Justice in Palestine as the organizing force behind the current protests. “They are an organization I have followed and written about for well over a decade,” Jacobson says of the pro-Palestine group. “They support terrorists. They honor people like Rasmea Odeh, who killed two Jewish students in Jerusalem.” Jacobson points to the ideology of critical race theory, which has spread across college campuses, for this rise in antisemitism. The related push for "diversity, equity, and inclusion," or DEI, is fundamentally anti-colonialism, Jacobson says, explaining that Israel is viewed by antisemites as “colonial occupiers.” The anti-Israel and anti-American sentiment likely will continue on college campuses, he says, because “unless you are going to change the faculty at these schools, unless you are going to change the fundamental ideologies which drive them, removing students from the courtyard isn't going to change a thing.” Enjoy the show! Ohio Attorney General Breaks Down Leftist Legal 'Trick' to Block GOP Efforts to Protect Kids

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is not going to allow one lone judge to dictate whether the children of Ohio are protected from “transgender” surgeries and hormones, he shared in an interview with The Daily Signal. Yost asked the state’s Supreme Court to intervene after Judge Michael Holbrook issued a temporary restraining order for House Bill 68, the Saving Ohio Adolescents From Experimentation, or SAFE, Act, on Tuesday. That law bars physicians from performing “transgender reassignment” surgeries on children and from prescribing cross-sex hormones or drugs to block children’s puberty. It also would allow students to sue if they are deprived of a fair playing field in sports due to transgender activism (such as a boy who “identifies” as a girl playing on a girls’ volleyball team) and would protect parents’ rights to raise their children according to their biological sex. A supermajority of Republican lawmakers voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s controversial veto of the bill in January, and before Holbrook blocked it, it was scheduled to go into effect on April 24. On Monday, Yost, the Medical Board of Ohio, and the state of Ohio filed an emergency motion for a writ of prohibition, asking that Holbrook be ordered to modify his temporary restraining order to “comply with Ohio statutory and procedural limitations.” The Ohio attorney general discussed the move and what he hopes will ensue from here in an interview with The Daily Signal. Is Upheaval In House Coming After Passage of $60 Billion for Ukraine?

The House passed a four-bill $95 billion foreign aid package over the weekend that includes $60 billion in additional aid for Ukraine. The bill could cost House Speaker Mike Johnson his job. The aid package passed in a 311-112 vote with the unanimous support of Democrats and 101 Republicans voting in favor of the bill. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., threatened to introduce a motion to remove Johnson, R-La., from his position as speaker if he brought the funding for Ukraine to the House floor for a vote. “I think she's looking at the totality of what's come across the floor over the past few months, and she is expressing extreme disappointment with that,” Ryan Walker, executive vice president of Heritage Action for America, says of Greene. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation, of which Heritage Action is the grassroots arm.) Greene left Washington at the end of last week without introducing the motion to vacate the speaker but said during an interview Sunday on Fox News that she still planned to try to oust Johnson. “Mike Johnson’s speakership is over,” Greene said on “Sunday Morning Futures,” adding, “He needs to do the right thing—to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated.” Less than one year after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the role, Capitol Hill is bracing for the potential of another speakership battle when Congress returns to Washington next week. Walker joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the reason for the sharp divide in Congress over the foreign aid package and the likelihood Johnson will face removal as speaker. Walker also explains where Congress is getting the money to send to Ukraine. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Learn more about your ad choices. This Passover, as Middle East Tensions Rise, Jews Remember ‘God Saves Us’

During the first night of Passover, Jewish homes gather around a Seder meal and remember how God delivered the Jewish people from Egypt, and that God has always rescued His people, author and lecturer Rabbi Pinchas Taylor explains. “We say that we recognize that in every generation, there are nations that have come against us, that seek to destroy us, and that each and every generation, God saves us from their plot,” the rabbi says. Passover begins at sundown on Monday night, and following Hamas’ attack on Israel in October, and this month's attack by Iran, the reminder that God saves His people, “that's going to be something that resonates quite a bit extra this year,” Taylor says. (Passover runs through sundown on April 30.) Taylor joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” as Passover begins to explain safety concerns in the Jewish community amid a rise in antisemitism after Oct. 7, and to discuss how Americans can support the Jewish people right now. Want a Faith-Filled Nation Back? Build the Family

There’s a direct link between being raised in a family with a mom and dad present and a commitment to faith, according to the president and founder of Communio, a nonprofit that equips churches to work for the renewal of healthy relationships, marriages, and the family. “Many pastors don't know that 80% of everybody sitting in the pews on Sunday morning come from a home where mom and dad stayed continuously married,” says Communio's J.P. De Gance. After working in public policy and politics in Washington, D.C., De Gance says he began to see that “so much of what's going on wrong in our country flows from the collapse of family and faith.” He started Communio to come alongside churches to help them identify how they can foster healthy families and marriages, and to equip singles with the tools to create those thriving relationships in the future, with a goal toward furthering the Gospel in America. De Gance joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why an American revival of faith requires a restoration of the family. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. What’s Riding on a Jan. 6 Capitol Riot Case Before Supreme Court? Legal Expert Explains

The Supreme Court will determine the fate of a major Jan. 6 Capitol riot-related case. The ruling could affect hundreds of people who were in the Capitol that day in 2021, and at the center of the case is the applicability of a federal statute. The Justice Department has been using a statute enacted in the early 2000s to prosecute those in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The statute makes it a crime to “obstruct or impede or influence an official proceeding or attempt to do so,” according to Seth Lucas, a senior research associate with the Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) During oral arguments Tuesday, the justices appeared skeptical that the statute could be applied and used in the Jan. 6 cases the way it has been. “It was clear that enough justices were skeptical of the government's expansive reading of Section 1512(c) [of the statute in question] to make a reasonable guess that they're probably going to read the statute a little more narrowly,” Lucas said. Lucas joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the details of the case and what the ruling will mean for those men and women who are facing charges for their actions on Jan. 6. Enjoy the show! Stopping Illegal Aliens From Squatting in US Homes

A new bill in Congress would stop illegal aliens from squatting in U.S. homes. “We're trying to get out in front of it to protect American homeowners,” Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., says. Leonel Moreno, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, recently went viral on social media after a video post explaining how to take advantage of squatting laws in the U.S. Under U.S. law, Moreno told his followers that “if a house is not inhabited, we can seize it.” In response to the video, and growing reports over illegal aliens squatting in homes in New York and his state of Pennsylvania, Meuser introduced the Safeguarding Homes from Illegal Entry, Living, and Dwelling Act, or the SHIELD Act. The bill makes trespassing “a deportable crime,” Meuser says. “So if an illegal were to claim squatter rights and enter an individual's home illegally without any rental paperwork or legitimate lease” then, Meuser says “they can be arrested and deported and prohibited from ever entering the United States again.” Meuser joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the growing need for the SHIELD Act, and what, if anything, he anticipates President Joe Biden will do to address growing concern over the crisis at the southern border. Iran, Israel, and Middle East: Is War Imminent?

Israeli leaders say the nation will respond to Iran’s weekend attack, but what that response will entail remains unclear. “I can see a number of scenarios in which this does escalate to a regional and potentially even a global conflict,” says a former member of the National Security Council, Robert Greenway, adding, “I can see fewer ways in which we prevent that from occurring.” Over the weekend, Iran launched about 300 drones and missiles at Israel. Unlike other attacks, this was not carried out by proxy terrorist groups in the region, but the nation of Iran itself. If a larger conflict in the Middle East is to be avoided, says Greenway, who also serves as director of the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation, the U.S. will need “to radically alter its policy and approach toward Iran and Israel.” (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) U.S. policy changes toward Iran should include “to deny it the resources necessary, and to restore deterrence, with the support of Israel and our partners and allies,” Greenway says. Greenway joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what options Israel has as it considered retaliation against Iran, and how U.S. Middle East foreign policy is affecting the conflict. Why Criminal Case Against Trump Is 'Bogus,' Legal Expert Explains

Among all the legal charges facing former President Donald Trump, the criminal case out of New York City that begins Monday “is the most bogus,” according to legal expert Hans von Spakovsky. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump in 2023 with 34 counts of falsifying business records supposedly to cover up “hush money” payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. “This case is just bogus from start to finish,” Von Spakovsky says, adding, “It's in Manhattan. It's a Manhattan jury, and I'll tell you, quite frankly, I think if the DA charged Donald Trump with eating a ham sandwich, the jury would find him guilty.” Jury selection in the case begins on Monday, but concerns have been raised as to whether it’s even possible to find an unbiased jury in Manhattan. Von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow and manager of the Election Law Reform Initiative at The Heritage Foundation, says he thinks the jury is “going to find him guilty, regardless of the facts and regardless of the law.” If Trump is found guilty, and even if he faces time in prison, that will not legally impede the former president from continuing to run for reelection, or even serving as president, given that the Constitution does not address that, the legal expert explains. Von Spakovsky joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what he expects to see during the case, and what will happen next if the jury does find Trump guilty. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Exposing Corruption in FBI: Whistleblowers Tell Their Stories

Garret O'Boyle and Stephen Friend dedicated years of their lives to serving their country in the FBI. But when they began to question some of the decisions being made within the bureau, they were suspended. After joining the FBI, O'Boyle says he “immediately saw that other agents [and] supervisors didn't have a solid grasp of people's civil rights.” “Having sworn that oath to the Constitution multiple times—twice in the Army, once as a police officer, once as an FBI agent,” O'Boyle said, “it actually meant something to me—which, I think, it doesn't to many, maybe even to most at this point. It's just a job. O'Boyle explained that FBI agents take a constitutional law course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and that for him, following and protecting constitutional rights “was most important to me,” adding that “foolishly … I thought that would be the case for everybody entering into this type of field.” After questioning some of the decisions being made within the FBI, O'Boyle was unexpectedly suspended from the bureau in 2022. Friend has a story similar to O'Boyle's. He was assigned to work on Jan. 6 cases, but raised concerns when he was informed that a SWAT team was to be used to arrest a man who was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, despite the fact that the man had agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Friend said he told his superiors, “We should not be doing this. There's other avenues to do it,” referring to arresting the man. Shortly thereafter, Friend was suspended from the FBI. O'Boyle and Friend join “The Daily Signal Podcast” to detail the issues they witnessed within the FBI and what happened to them when they started asking questions. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast.
