In April, the Biden-Harris administration finalized a rule requiring foster parents to affirm a child’s gender ideology. “The provider must commit to establishing an environment that supports the child’s LGBTQI+ status or identity,” according to the rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The policy, according to Herbie Newell, president and executive director of Lifeline Children’s Services, “made people of faith into a different category of foster and adoptive parent, saying that because they didn't give in to this pro-radical LGBTQ+ agenda, that they couldn't foster any child with gender dysphoria or any child that might be having any questions about their LGBTQ status.” “Faith-based Christian people were put on the sidelines and not able to participate in our foster care and adoption system in the same way,” according to Newell. With over 350,000 children in the U.S. foster care system, and over 100,000 of whom are waiting to be adopted, Newell says he is hopeful the incoming Trump administration will roll back these “oppressive administrative rulings.” During Trump’s first administration, there was a sense that “the problem is way too big for us to exclude anyone from the table,” Newell said, noting that he was invited to “West Wing of the White House three times during [Trump’s] presidency.” During the Biden administration, Newell said neither he nor any other faith-based adoption leaders that he knows of were extended such an invitation. Newell joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the adoption and foster care policy changes he hopes to see under a second Trump administration. Last week, Russia fired an intermediate range ballistic missile at Ukraine. The missile, according to nuclear deterrence and missile defense expert Robert Peters, is designed to carry multiple nuclear warheads, sending a clear message to Washington to “knock it off.” Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, America has told Ukraine that it could use the provided weapons only within the “borders of Ukraine to expel the Russian forces,” says Peters, who before becoming a research fellow at The Heritage Foundation served as the lead strategist at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. Then, in mid-November, President Joe Biden gave Ukraine permission to use U.S.-supplied long-range missiles to hit targets inside Russia. Ukraine wasted no time in firing one. Almost immediately afterward, Russia issued a new doctrine on its use of nuclear weapons. As Peters summarizes it, Russia warns “that if anyone conducts deep, penetrating strikes inside of Russia to include using conventional missiles or aircraft or even drones, Russia reserves the right to respond with nuclear weapons.” Russia also said that a nation that supplied the weapons also could become the target of a retaliatory nuclear strike by Russia. Russia’s decision to fire the ballistic missile Thursday at Ukraine can be considered a “mock nuclear strike,” Peters says. Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn't want a nuclear war,” Peters says. “He doesn't want to fight the United States. But he really, really can't stand that we're giving [Ukraine] these kinds of precise, long-range, deep-penetrating strike capabilities. And he's trying to get us to stop, and he may be willing to use these [nuclear] weapons. President-elect Donald Trump won 46% of the Hispanic vote in the 2024 presidential election, a record for any Republican presidential candidate in recent history, according to Reuters. It’s not the people flooding across the southern border affecting Arizonans, but rather what some of the illegal immigrants carry with them. Illegal aliens don’t stay in his state, according to Pinal County, Arizona Sheriff Mark Lamb. Instead, they travel to “California, Massachusetts, New York, Chicago, Iowa, Alabama,” the sheriff rattles off. “But what we are feeling is, just like every state and every American family, we're feeling the effects of fentanyl,” he said. An estimated 74,702 people died from fentanyl poisoning in America in 2023, a slight decline from the 76,226 fentanyl related deaths in 2022, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lamb argues that the fentanyl crisis should be discussed more in the news and during the 2024 presidential election but is not because “to talk about it would mean you'd have to accept responsibility to it, and to accept the responsibility would cost you an election.” The Harris campaign did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment. Russia and North Korea have a long history of partnership, but it is unclear if the relationship “is a true alliance or more a marriage of convenience,” according to Bruce Klingner, a senior research fellow in the Asian Studies Center at The Heritage Foundation. “The longer it goes on, it seems a bit more of an alliance,” Klingner says. “The two leaders, [Vladimir] Putin and Kim [Jong Un], signed a strategic partnership agreement earlier this year where they pledged to help defend each other, and Putin has sort of cited that as a reason for justifying North Korean troops being there because they're defending Russia against attacks by not only Ukraine, but he claims NATO,” Klingner explains. The Pentagon announced Monday that North Korea has sent about 10,000 troops to Russia to aid in Russia’s fight against Ukraine. In exchange for troops, Klingner says North Korea is receiving “funding, getting cash, both direct and indirectly, likely food deliveries, fuel deliveries, and what is particularly worrisome is concerns that it may also be getting military technology.” Klingner joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the relationship between Russia and North Korea and what the two countries' latest partnership means for the war in Ukraine. It’s a race to 270. With just six days until the 2024 presidential election, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are seeking to motivate voters in key swing states across the nation in hopes of picking up enough support to earn 270 electoral votes and claim victory. Trump will speak to voters Wednesday afternoon in North Carolina’s 1st District, a region that is anticipated to determine which candidates win the state’s 16 electoral votes. Harris will only be an hour away, holding a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to North Carolina, states to watch on election night include Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia. And Heritage Action for America Executive Vice President Ryan Walker argues that Harris should not count on winning Virginia, despite the fact that President Joe Biden easily carried the state in 2020. The razor-thin margins in the swing states indicate that it may take several days for the American people to know who their next president will be, and some states, like Nevada, pose a unique challenge to determining a winner. On Monday, the Nevada Supreme Court affirmed a lower court decision that mail-in ballots with no postmark can be received and counted until three days after the election. There is, however, a chance the winner will be known on election night, according to Walker. "I think that the energy and enthusiasm gap is such this year that we'll know a significant amount of information going into Election Day," Walker said. "And if we can extrapolate those numbers and compare them to Election Day results in previous years or get some initial data on exit polling, there is a chance that the winner could be declared on election night despite some of these states having late arrival votes that they're still counting." Four years ago, news organizations and social media platforms deliberately suppressed or outright ignored the Hunter Biden laptop story—one of the biggest scandals of the 2020 election. This time around, those same media outlets are engaged in a different kind of censorship: hiding the radical policy ideas once advocated by Vice President Kamala Harris. A new poll from Media Research Center confirms even Harris’ most ardent supporters don’t know her extreme positions on everything from defunding police and co-sponsoring the Green New Deal to legalizing drugs and supporting open borders. Brent Bozell, MRC's founder and president, spoke with The Daily Signal about the shocking findings. He also recounted the impact of burying the Biden laptop story. A postelection poll in 2020 found that if voters knew about the controversy, they would've backed then-President Donald Trump. "Trump would have won 317 electoral votes with ease. It would have been a massive landslide, but that's just the states we polled," Bozell said. "He would have won a landslide on the order of Ronald Reagan had they only known about the laptop." Bozell warned the media could have a similar impact on the 2024 presidential election by ignoring the most controversial aspects of Harris' policy positions. "The media delivered the victory to Joe Biden in 2020," Bozell said. "If she wins, it will be because they delivered the victory to her." For conservatives, it is not surprising that bitcoin is an appealing technology, according to Dennis Porter. Bitcoin is “truly nonpartisan,” says Porter, CEO and co-founder of the Satoshi Action Fund, but within the technology, “there are so many things that I think appeal to the conservative voter or Republican voters,” he argues. Bitcoin is unique because it’s “money which can't be debased,” the CEO of the pro-bitcoin policy organization says. The Pentagon is looking into the leak of intelligence information related to an upcoming Israeli attack on Iran. It was America's responsibility to keep the information safe, officials say. The leak likely has “deeply” damaged U.S.-Israeli relations during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, says Victoria Coates, Heritage Foundation vice president in charge of the Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy. The leak is “very, very concerning,” she says. After Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles Oct. 1 at Israel, the Jewish state announced that it would respond. The leaked documents don't include specific targets that Israel plans to strike, but do include surveillance information. Release of that information "definitely" has changed Israel’s original response plan, Coates says. “The Iranians clearly have this information,” she says. “We don't know what other information they have, and so I think Israel can and should take the time they need to develop an alternative plan.” Coates joins this episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss how the U.S. will find the leaker, and what the Biden-Harris administration can do to repair relations with Israel.
