Trump’s Pardoned Pro-Lifers: Paul Vaughn
In March 2021, Paul Vaughn, along with 10 other a pro-life activist, demonstrated outside the Carafem Health Center, an abortion clinic in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Vaughn was sentenced to three years of supervised release, including six months of home detention, after a jury convicted him of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for blocking the entrance to the abortion clinic, according to court documents. The Daily Signal’s Elizabeth Mitchell sat down with Vaughn to talk about his efforts to repeal the FACE Act. Since its passage in 1994, 97% of FACE Act arrests have been against pro-lifers, even though, “the law ostensibly is supposed to protect churches and places of worship and reproductive health centers”, argues Vaughn. Paul Vaughn was one of the 23 pro-lifers President Trump pardoned in January 2025. Victor Davis Hanson: The Joe Biden 'Now They Tell Us' Phenomenon
Why is it that reports of former President Joe Biden’s failing mental acuity are just now coming out? Victor Davis Hanson asks this question on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “I don't know if you've noticed, everyone, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, they all knew about Joe Biden's dementia. Suddenly we're given all of these revealing quotes that he was completely physically and mentally unfit to carry out the oath of office. But we all knew that. “Why all of a sudden are we no longer crazy that Joe Biden was not fit as a fiddle, that the quarantine was a mess, that Brett Kavanaugh was not a rapist or sexual assaulter, that there's more to January 6th than we're told? And I could go on and on about these 11th-hour revelations." Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: MSNBC Is a ‘Money-Losing Operation’
While Rachel Maddow decries the network for firing Joy Reid and large swaths of news presenters, they conveniently leave out that Reid worked a fraction of the time her Fox counterparts did for a larger salary. If Maddow really cares about the recently fired news staff, she’d forgo her $25 million annual salary and give it away, argues Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ As far as Joy Reid goes, she had an audience of about 150,000. … Everybody else had no idea what she—who she was or what she was saying. She was getting at $1.3 million dollars. “ Very politically connected people have one rule, one protocol, one value judgment for all of us. And, they have no intention of following it themselves. They’re never subject to the consequences of their ideology. “Do you realize, if you just said, ‘I, Rachel Maddow, tonight promise that I will work my 52 days this year for free, given the ample compensation I have received, and I will fund 250 staffers at MSNBC for $100,000 a year, given what I make, $25 million.’ Let’s just try that.” The Daily Signal cannot continue to tell stories, like this one, without the support of our viewers: https://secured.dailysignal.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Victor Davis Hanson | The Only Immigrant Democrats Don’t Support: Elon Musk
The Left’s hate for Elon Musk seems to be increasing rapidly every day. In congress, certain Democrat politicians question Musk’s intentions since he is an immigrant. By normal leftist standards, that would make one “xenophobic” and “nativist” to think this way, but that logic doesn’t apply to Musk argues Victor Davis Hanson in this episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ We had a congresswoman from Ohio, I think her name was Marcy Kaptur, she recently said that she wasn’t sure where Elon Musk’s loyalties lay because he’d only been a citizen for 22 years. … Remember, the Left says that people who are here illegally, and not citizens, should gain all of the protections and rights of citizens. They should be de facto citizens. “ We have turned someone who has saved the U.S. space program and will probably save two astronauts, who otherwise would perish in space if it was left to the government program; who reinvented the entire auto industry; who opened up all of social media with X—we have turned this person into a demon.” The Daily Signal cannot continue to tell stories, like this one, without the support of our viewers: https://secured.dailysignal.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Victor Davis Hanson: Pentagon’s Partisan Letter Against Trump, Hegseth DEBUNKED
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, was fired from his post last month, along with several other high ranking military officials. Many of the Left rushed to say that President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth were “politicizing” the Pentagon. However, “This is not the politicalization of the Pentagon. It's the depoliticalization”, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ They said, ‘This is reckless, it hurts morale, and it will depress recruitment.’ Let's analyze that just for a second. Recruitment reached near-record levels after the election of Donald Trump. It's on the way up. It was depressed prior to that. Why would it be depressed? If you go through the Pentagon data, it's very hard to decipher. “ More importantly, Leon Panetta signed this letter. He was one, also, of the 51 intelligence authorities that said, right on the eve of the election and on a few days before the 2020 debate, that Hunter [Biden's] laptop, which was in the hands of the FBI and authenticated, had all the hallmarks of a Russian information, which meant disinformation, campaign. “ Bottom line: We don't need any more letters from so-called experts. They're always partisan. And they're to no effect.” Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Zelenskyy Bites the Hand That Feeds Him Billions of Dollars
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy strolled into the White House using the same strategy he employed with President Joe Biden, which turned out to be his fatal flaw argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “ I think Mr. Zelenskyy, in some ways, is a sympathetic character. He needs American weapons, but he kept arguing and arguing, and interrupting the president of the United States, who kept trying to remind him that without American weapons—and the number is disputed because it includes weaponry, economic assistance, and other types of U.S. aid. “ Without the United States, he would be nowhere. Europe talks a great game. All of Europe together, all 28, 29 nations of the EU, 32 nations of NATO have given less than the United States alone. And they will not come to his aid. “ He was flown in on a U.S. military jet. He met Democratic politicians. He met union workers in a munitions factory and basically said to them, "These jobs are essential to us." Subtext: "You wouldn't want to lose your jobs by voting for Donald Trump, who might cut off aid." That was a terrible mistake. When Good Intentions Go Wrong: America’s ‘Crisis of Dependency’
About 25 years ago, James Whitford and his wife founded a ministry to the poor and homeless in Missouri. Not long after starting the ministry, Whitford felt led by the Lord to see for himself what it was like to be homeless. After several conversations with his wife, the couple agreed that Whitford would take a short period of time to live on the streets, and Whitford left his home with nothing but the clothes on his back. Whitford found himself sitting on a street corner next to a young homeless man in his 30s named Ralph. Whitford had known Ralph for some time and had ministered to him many times, but now, the two were homeless together. It was well into the day and Whitford was hungry. Ralph pulled out a sandwich and offered Whitford half. “And if you put yourself in that position of a homeless person offering his food to you, how do you respond? I didn't say it,” Whitford recalled, “but I remember feeling or thinking, well, ‘no, I'm not gonna take your sandwich, Ralph. I'm not gonna do that. I can go somewhere if I need to, and you're the ministry, and I'm the minister.” At that moment, Whitford says he realized he had been “treating Ralph and thousands of other people as objects of my good intentions … rather than subjects who have autonomy, capacity and agency.” The experience changed Whitford’s perspective on serving the poor, and permanently affected the way he led his ministry, moving from a “handout model to a hand-up model.” “If we're not engaging people in reciprocity in our charity, we are failing them horribly, doing them a disservice and not really upholding the inherent human dignity that is in every person,” Whitford said. Unfortunately, Whitford says much of the government's programs intended to help the poor, and many charity programs, don’t engage the recipients dignity and have instead created significant harm through creating dependence on programs instead of empowerment. Whitford, co-founder and CEO of True Charity, joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss his new book, “The Crisis of Dependency: How Our Efforts to Solve Poverty Are Trapping People in It and What We Can Do to Foster Freedom Instead.” Learn more about your ad choices. Victor Davis Hanson: Volodymyr Zelenskyy Is No Winston Churchill
A tense altercation between President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ensued in the Oval Office today. The bottom line: The United States of America will not be extorted by a country whose leaders are more interested in what they can get out of the American people than peace. The point of the meeting? To sign a U.S.-Ukraine mineral deal. Trump is “very tired of subsidizing and paying for far-distant problems when we’re running a $37 trillion national debt,” and this deal would not only offset those costs but also, by inviting “American business into Ukraine, to help rebuild it and to profit … [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will be less eager to attack you if he understands there’s a thriving American concession there,” argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “Donald Trump is incurring a lot of criticism lately on the Ukrainian war. He's trying to negotiate an end to the war. Remember, there's probably somewhere around 1.5 million dead, wounded, missing, and captured on both sides, together. That is the largest casualty rate figure total in Europe since the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942 and 1943. In his “Art of the Deal” style he came in and he said some things the last week that got people very angry. I'll just give you two examples. He said that Zelenskyy was a dictator and that he ‘should have stopped the war and never started it.’ “That got people anguished because we know that Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine on February 24th of 2022. So, why did Donald Trump say that? Of course, he doesn't believe that Zelenskyy started the war because he has campaigned himself on the following narrative: ‘Under George Bush, in 2008, Russia invaded Ossetia and Georgia. “‘In 2014, under the Obama administration, they invaded the Donbas and Crimea. On February 24th of 2022, under Joe Biden, they tried to take Kyiv. However, of the last four administrations, there was one in which they did not leave their borders to invade another nation—my administration. Why? Because unlike the prior three presidents, I was able to establish deterrence.’” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Victor Davis Hanon: The Left’s DOGE Tantrum
There is a growing outrage against Elon Musk, including threats to his life over DOGE’s work to find and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in the U.S. federal government. On this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” a Daily Signal original series, Hanson delves into the reasons behind this backlash, its broader implications and how the Left is making the “chemotherapy”, DOGE’s work, out to be worse than the “cancer”, wasteful government spending. “We're starting to see, kind of, an outrage where people are threatening a life, even, of Elon Musk and defending all sorts of indefensible expenditures.” “One thing I think is lost in this messaging, this tough love, this effort to restrain the government is that, I think, the Trump administration and Musk must convey that. They must say we don't enjoy putting people out of work. We don't enjoy rounding people up, but we have to because these people, the Left, the Biden people, the Jacobins, they put us in that position. They were the ones that destroyed institutions. They were the ones that broke the law. They were the ones that are bankrupting us.” 00:00 Introduction to Tough Love Messaging 04:38 The Necessity of Tough Actions 04:42 Blaming the Left for the Crisis 04:53 Destruction of Institutions 04:56 Breaking the Law 04:58 Economic Bankruptcy For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Germany’s Election Results and the Marginalized Conservatives
Although the Elon Musk-endorsed Alternative for Deutschland garnered over 20% of the vote in the country’s recent elections, the “ultra-far-right” party will likely be blocked from joining a majority coalition in the parliament, further alienating an increasing number of concerned Germans who believe their country is no longer the “powerhouse” of Europe, argues Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “But here's my point, even though they have about half of the support of all German voters, it's likely that the Alternative for Germany will not be represented. And the seats that will comprise the majority will be made up by either a socialist party or the green party, or both. “Here's my point, again, there's a populist, nationalist backlash, a counterrevolution to the craziness of Europe. And we know JD Vance has outlined that craziness: low fertility, high energy prices, bans against fracking, open borders, dishonorment, deindustrialization, etc. But the conservatives will not have a voice under their parliamentary democracy, even though they earned a voice. And that's only going to make them more polarized. … “Mr. [Friedrich] Merz said in a speech that given the trajectory of America under Donald Trump, he's distancing himself and he doesn't really consider the United States an ally anymore, at least he said Trump's America. “Think about that for a second. Now, I don't want to go through ancient history, but we fought two wars with Germany. And we defeated them both, but we also came to their rescue. I think we rescued them in World War I from kaiserism. And that allowed them to have a brief romance with democracy. And then we rescued them from Nazism. They paid a terrible price. But they did lose two wars they should have lost. And then we protected them in the Cold War. … ” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Maine Pulls a South Carolina
In this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Victor Davis Hanson discusses a recent heated exchange between President Donald Trump and Maine Gov. Janet T. Mills at a White House meeting of governors. The confrontation centered on Trump’s executive order banning males from participating in female sports, which Mills resisted. Hanson argues that Mills’ stance is not only out of line with public opinion, but also basic constitutional principles: “[Gov. Janet T. Mills’] wrong on public opinion and she’s wrong on sporting authorization. She’s wrong in the idea that a state law can supersede a federal law. “Because, if she were right, she would destroy female sports as we know it. … “Under our Constitution, when a state and federal law are in conflict, the federal law predominates. The alternative is something that caused the Civil War. … “I would remind her that there’s some things that she’s not thinking about. No. 1, that issue, according to liberal polls, is about 80-to-20 in favor of keeping female sports for biological females. The person, most recently, who won a pole vault contest in Maine was a biological male. And they usually have about a 20% higher rate of performance in pole vaulting because of their muscular skeletal frame. … “Remember, women who transition to men, that is biological women, do not win male sports. And that should tell you something. It’s that the idea of genderism, transgenderism, is not a third sex. It’s primarily predicated on whether you’re a biological male or a biological female. If you’re a biological female, you do not do well as a transgendered male.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. DOGE’s Popularity, Complaints About Musk, Illegal Alien Encounters | Feb. 25, 2025
On today’s Top News in 10, we cover: More than 6 in 10 voters believe President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency will significantly reduce federal government spending over the next year. Up until now, most Republicans have cheered Elon Musk’s cost-cutting measures at DOGE. But there are signs of frustration in some quarters of Washington. Customs and Border Protection encountered only 200 illegal aliens at the U.S. southern border on Saturday. That is the lowest number of apprehensions in a single day in over 15 years. Plus, our news flash: The White House announced a big change for the press pool, the group of journalists who cover Trump’s activities. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt also forcefully defended the choice of Dan Bongino to serve as deputy director of the FBI. MAGA Foreign Policy: The Iranian Regime | Victor Davis Hanson
For the first time in decades, the Iranian regime is defenseless. Will President Donald Trump seize on the moment and finally depose of the brutal theocracy before it gets “the bomb” or instead pursue another “maximum pressure” campaign, cutting the ayatollah off from the rest of the world? Victor Davis Hanson lays out these options and what role the MAGA worldview may play in the Trump administration’s decision-making on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words” “Remember that fable of our youth when the mice got together and they say, ‘The cat is picking us off one by one. We need to put a bell around his neck so we could be warned.’ And everybody said, ‘That's a great idea.’ “The next item of business among the mice assembly was, who will bell the cat? What I'm getting at is the Europeans, I think even the Chinese and Russians, don't want on their border a nuclear Iran. The Americans, the Israelis, everybody knows they should not—that theocratic regime should not get the bomb. But who bells the cat? ... “Maybe the correct stance of the incoming Trump administration is to go back to the maximum-pressure campaign of Mike Pompeo and Donald Trump and have strict sanctions on oil exports, maybe even a blockade, put the pressure on so the people then throw the theocracy out itself. “But on the other hand, people are going to argue, ‘Wait a minute, there are no Iranian air defenses. For one of the few times in history, that regime is naked. There is no Assad. There is no Hezbollah. There is no Hamas. There is no Houthis that are capable of, as surrogates, attacking the Israeli state. “‘So, maybe you could attack Iran—just this brief window—because Israel, in a series of brilliant air responses, has destroyed its ability—Tehran's ability to defend itself.’” Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: America’s ‘Dead, Lost Generation’
What was America like before rapid industrialization and suburbanization, which dramatically altered the way of life in the United States? Critical race theory and DEI proponents look down on this period in American history, which stretched through much of the early to mid-20th century, saying it was an era marred by “white supremacy” and the “KKK.” That couldn’t be further from the truth, argues Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words. “But what I'm getting is, everybody got together, they were ethnically and racially diverse, there was no prejudice. Or if there was, it was incidental, not essential to farming. And all that world has been not only gone with the industrial age and corporate farming and the agrarianism that inculcated those values, but we have slurred those dead people, that dead lost generation. We've said that they were sexist, racist, homophobes, and they had it easy, they had privilege, they were supremacists. They weren't. They weren't. They had nothing. And they worked day to night. And they gave us a set of values: hard work, follow the law, listen more than you speak, don't shame your family, and don't treat people by their superficial appearance, or the color of their skin, or their accent, but the content of their character.” Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. The HUD secretary spoke with The Daily Signal from CPAC today. It took an all-night vote-a-rama, but finally at 4:45 a.m. the U.S. Senate approved a $340 billion budget reconciliation bill. The final vote was 52 to 48, with just one Republican—Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky—voting against the measure. President Trump met with the nation’s governors at the White House today, and he used the occasion to call out Maine Gov. Janet Mills over the issue of male athletes competing against women in sports. Plus, our news flash: Sen. Victor Davis Hanson: Pete Hegseth’s Military
The Pentagon’s budget is going to shrink and Americans are going to get a better “bang for their buck” under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s leadership, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “Did you notice that of all the controversial Trump nominees—Kash Patel, Pete Hegseth, Pam Bondi, RFK, Tulsi Gabbard—the Left went after Pete Hegseth the most vehemently? And he required JD Vance to break that tie. There was a reason for that. He is proposing radical changes in the Pentagon. Remember where we are right now with the Pentagon. We spend $820 billion a year. It's about 14% of the entire budget and it's immune to criticism. It really is. “And we are building $14 billion carriers. We're building $85 million F-35s. We have built $140 million F-22s. And we're watching, in Ukraine and the Middle East, the entire mode of 21st-century warfare being revolutionized. It's more of—not that we're going to have bad quality, but it's more quantity than quality. They're flooding the zones with cheap drones—cheap drones on the ocean, in the air, and on land. “And we're not there yet. We're not doing it. So, what Pete Hegseth wants to do is change the entire manner of procurement.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Trump’s Counterrevolution
Victor Davis Hanson discusses the misleading information about the first 30 days of the Trump administration’s actions, comparing it to FDR’s first hundred days. On this episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson describes the current period as a “Trump restoration” rather than a revolution, emphasizing it as a counterrevolution against the changes brought by the Obama administration. “ We don't really appreciate what we've been through with eight years of the Obama revolution and the four-year, more radical third term of Obama using or employing the wax effigy of Joe Biden. A revolution that we've experienced was a cultural, economic, political, social revolution. It was very similar to the French Revolution under the Robespierre brothers. You should remember what they tried to do. They changed the days of the week. They renamed things. They tore down statues. They went after the churches. Does this sound familiar? … “ So this was a revolutionary movement. Movies were different. Sports were different. Take a knee. And Donald Trump came in and it was not sufficient to say we’re going to stop the madness of $37 billion. … It’s a return to normalcy. It’s a return to common sense. It only looks revolutionary to revolutionaries. But to the rest of the people, it is a counterrevolution to restore normalcy and bring the country from the far-left fringes back home again.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. JD Vance’s Message to European Leaders: Listen to Your People, Don’t Go Hard Left | Victor Davis Hanson
During his trip to Europe last week, Vice President JD Vance said to European leaders at the Munich Security Conference, “The threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor. What I worry about is the threat from within. The retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values—values shared with the United States of America.” In the face of mounting inflation and rampant illegal immigration, Europe’s leaders must listen to their people and not take a “hard left,” plunging the country into a Joe Biden-level, continentwide nightmare, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “[Vance’s] criticism was multifaceted: Close your borders. Legal-only immigration. Up your defense budget. Allow for free speech. We've gone through the Biden nightmare at home. We know what it was like to go hard left. Don't go that way. Deregulate. ... “Germany and Europe better be very careful. Germany's fertility rate is 1.45. Europe's, in aggregate, is only about 1.5. We're at least 1.6. We said years ago in 2014, NATO, pay 2% of GDP and hold your own and pull your own weight. And now it's 10 years, 11 years later and we still have nine NATO countries that will not do it, especially Germany. ... “They have 16% of the population was not born in Germany. France is almost as bad. And they do not assimilate, intermarry, and integrate like we do. They are looking at this huge Russian-Ukrainian war on their borders where maybe 1.5 million people have been killed or wounded or missing. And they're critical of the United States that pays the greatest proportion of the NATO budget and who puts Europe under its nuclear shield. And they are damning us.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Ukraine, It’s Time to Make a Deal
Europe’s largest and deadliest war since 1945 needs to come to an end, argues Victor Davis Hanson in this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” As rumors of peace talks between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine spread, Hanson talks shop about the likely outcomes and why President Donald Trump is the only one who can end Europe’s bloodiest war since World War II: “What did Donald Trump do when he came in? He started giving offensive weapons to Ukraine. He killed 300 to 400 of the Wagner Group in Syria. Nobody had ever done that in the Cold War, killed that many Russians. He got out of an asymmetrical missile deal. He sanctioned the oligarchs at a higher level. He started flooding the world with cheap oil that could bankrupt Russia. Do Your Financial Investments Undermine Your Values?
Conservatives across the country might be supporting leftist causes through their investments but have no idea they are doing so. A new investment services consulting company is working to change this. “Prospr Aligned is committed to equipping institutional investors with the tools, insights, and partnerships necessary to ensure their investments deliver reliable returns and reflect the values of their investors and beneficiaries,” according to Derek Kreifels, the company's CEO. Through Prospr Aligned, Kreifels says he helps “institutional investors across the country make sure that their assets are being managed in a way that is actually aligned with their values.” While this might sound simple, Kreifels says, “you would be surprised how many investors are not aware of how asset managers are voting their shares.” Prospr Aligned advises both clients of private and public investment funds on the best investments they can make, placing the priority of financial returns first, while also ensuring investments are not in contradiction with a client's values. Before launching Prospr Aligned, Kreifels headed the State Financial Officers Foundation for 12 years and served as the Assistant State Treasurer of Kansas for the five years prior. Kreifels joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss values-based investing and the unique mission of Prospr Aligned. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Victor Davis Hanson: Germany’s ‘Slow-Motion Suicide’
At the height of World War II, Henry Morgenthau, treasury secretary under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, proposed a plan to deliberately deindustrialization, depopulate, and disarm postwar Germany. The Morgenthau Plan, as it was known, would transition Germany back to an agrarian society, making the prospect of future war unimaginable. Although Morgenthau’s ideas would never see the light of day, now, more than 80 years later, Europe’s powerhouse is poised to embrace this grim reality. “Germany represents the powerhouse, traditionally, of the European economy, and even culture, and it’s starting to implode,” warns Victor Davis Hanson in this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “They only have about 125 attack aircraft. They have very few armored vehicles. Their active military is only about 180,000 soldiers. They have 84 million people in the country. The fertility rate is getting very close to 1.4. … “They have had a million to 2 million illegal aliens just prance into Germany, especially during the last years of the Merkel chancellorship. In terms of percentage of foreign-born, Germany has more foreign-born than does the United States, which doesn't have a border in the south, at least until Donald Trump comes in.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Not Enough People Were ‘Marginalized,’ So Obama Created DEI
Why did President Barack Obama start using words like “diversity, equity, and inclusion” instead of the typical "affirmative action"? Affirmative action was created to right the historic wrongs imposed on African Americans during the Jim Crow era, which included about 10% of the U.S. population. Obama used DEI to expand the terminology to anyone who isn’t white. Why? Victor Davis Hanson argues in this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words” that it was to dramatically increase the size of the historically marginalized constituency, allowing the Obama administration to implement its expansive woke agenda: “Affirmative action was created during the civil rights era, 1964 and '65, and then, now, it has been with us almost 60 years. But remember what it was originally designed for—to address the historic racism and oppression of black Americans through slavery and Jim Crow, de facto segregation in some of the Northern states, but de jure segregation in the South. "And it said that because of that African Americans had not been given equality of opportunity. Statute never said anything about quotas or equality result ... “When the Obama administration came in, they saw that that constituency was not big enough for the type of woke agenda that they were envisioning "So, they recreated it. They used a word, “diversity.” And diversity then would morph in, during the Obama years, to “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” They added the “equity and inclusion” so you didn't obsess on race, which was the obsession. But they didn't want you to think about that. So then, all of a sudden, anybody was diverse on one qualification. "They were not white." Victor Davis Hanson: Sorry, Liberals. DOGE Is 100% Legal. Here’s Why.
Is the Left taking the bait? While many in the legacy media continue to berate Elon Musk for his role in defunding bloated federal programs and agencies, Donald Trump remains largely unscathed. Is this part of a larger strategy by the president, wonders Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “He's more legitimate—or he has more statutory legitimacy—than earlier presidential advisors, like Harry Hopkins, who moved into the White House under the FDR administration, or Bernard Baruch, who basically ran two world wars, in terms of domestic production, under Woodrow Wilson and FDR. So, let's just dispel the idea that he's doing anything unusual. ... “As far as the executive orders that created the DOGE program and eliminated USAID—that was perfectly legal in itself—USAID was created by John F. Kennedy in 1961 by an executive order. There was a statutory direction for the president to disperse foreign aid into a comprehensive body, but it didn't say USAID—he could do whatever he wanted. ... "And so, Donald Trump has decided to end an autonomous USAID and fold it into the State Department for disaster relief or poverty relief or famine relief. ... “All Donald Trump is doing is saying, ‘I don't believe the impoundment act is legal. We'll see what the Supreme Court says—but I'm just following the precedent that Joe Biden did.’ But now, the shoe's on the other foot." Congressman and Former Green Beret: Next Generation Is ‘Condemned’ to Conflict
After years of military service, and long before running for Congress, Rep. Pat Harrigan, R-N.C., and his wife started a family and focused on growing their business in North Carolina. The couple had “nothing to do with politics until Afghanistan came crashing down” in 2021. Watching Afghanistan fall so quickly back into the hands of the terrorists that Harrigan had fought to defeat during his military service was one of the reasons Harrigan says he decided to run for Congress. “Our politicians failed us,” he said. “Our military leaders failed us. And at some point, you just step back and you realize, if we're structurally so weak that we would lose Afghanistan the way that we lost it, we're just asking our adversaries to attack us.” “I really do believe that the way that we left Afghanistan condemned the next generation of Americans to conflict,” Harrigan added. “And I want to do everything that I can possibly do here in Washington to deter that next conflict that I think is very likely to happen. And in the event we are not able to deter it, I want to set the conditions to win it because there's no substitute for winning.” Harrigan’s passion for strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base began to take form during his years of military service, going back to when he was 23 and found himself in Afghanistan overseeing about 350 Americans, Afghans, and expatriates at a small combat outpost. The position was “very difficult,” Harrigan says, but also a “very rewarding leadership experience that really shaped a lot of who I am today.” Harrigan, a graduate of West Point, returned to Afghanistan in 2015 after becoming a Green Beret. The congressman joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” just one month into his term to discuss how the Trump administration can restore U.S. military readiness, and decrease wasteful use of military resources that is adding to the U.S. national debt. Victor Davis Hanson: Mexico Is Our Frenemy
On this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words”, Hanson talks about the current status of the Mexican-American relationship. Currently, the United States has a $100 billion plus trade deficit with Mexico. Days after taking office, President Trump directed the U.S. military to begin deportation flights to Mexico. Mexico initially refused, only to concede days later. Trump threatened to impose a 25% on Mexican imports unless America’s southern neighbor took concrete action to curb the flow of illegal aliens and drugs across its borders. A day later, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum caved, sending 10,000 national guard troops to the U.S. southern border. “What is the Mexican-American status quo now? It's very disturbing. We sent deported criminals back to Mexico and they would not allow them to land in Mexico. We had people of the cartel shoot an American citizen on U.S. land and shoot at our Border Patrol. So, what is Mexico? Is it a neutral? Is it an ally? Is it an enemy? Is it a frenemy?” “So, I don't know what Mexico is, but I know what we can do about it. 20% tax on anybody who sends, anywhere in the United States, money back to Mexico. That would raise about $12 billion dollars. That would send a message. And then we have a tariff. Donald Trump says he's going to do it very quickly and that would tell Mexico, “you're not going to run up a $167 billion under the guise of the North American Free Trade [Agreement].” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Donald Trump’s Tariff Diplomacy Is Working
President Donald Trump is not using tariffs for their historical purpose, which is to protect and promote domestic industry. Instead, Trump, as Victor Davis Hanson argues, is using tariffs to hold countries, like Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and China, accountable. And it’s working. On this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson dispels the Left’s hysteria over President Trump’s tariff policies: “So, if you take Venezuela and Colombia, he's saying that ‘you people deliberately emptied your jails and you sent them to the United States—sent them being felons—violent felons. And you're not going to do that anymore’ And they said, ‘we're not taking them back’. He said, ‘you're going to take them back, or I'm going to put a tariff’. So, it was a lever of diplomacy, and it worked. They backed down completely.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Trump Clears House at Leftist ‘Rogue Operation,’ USAID
“If you live by executive order, you can be canceled by executive order,” says Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” when talking about the Trump administration’s decision to restructure the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), originally created by President John F. Kennedy via executive order in 1961. “It's been released that they were subsidizing everything from trans festivities overseas to gay comic books. But what was very interesting was there was a $40 million-plus grant to the Wuhan virology lab and channeled, apparently, through EcoHealth, Peter Daszak’s organization. This is important because under testimony, we were under the impression that Anthony Fauci only had his hands on $600,000.” “At the very time the Democratic Party is polling, according to Quinnipiac—a very liberal polling organization—just 31% approval, a historical low—they all know what they have to do. And that is move to the center. But Donald Trump has moved so fast, and in so many untraditional ways, that their natural hysteria has overcome their sense of reality.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. Victor Davis Hanson: Donald Trump’s ‘DEI Firestorm’
If DEI proponents were being honest, they’d say, “We're going to bring in people that may not have traditional criteria or traditional resumes, but we're willing to take that risk with your life,” argues Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davison Hanson: In His Own Words.” After President Donald Trump’s critics lashed out last week when he broached the idea that DEI hiring standards may have played a role in the disastrous midair collision over the Potomac River, a class action lawsuit surfaced, claiming that the Federal Aviation Administration turned away “1,000 air traffic controller applicants, solely based on their race,” reported Fox News. The FAA "disbanded a lot of university programs that encourage people with military experience or encourage people that had courses in scientific disciplines or mathematics or aeronautics, not to apply.” “The thing about DEI—what Trump brought up with the FAA—ask yourself something: If it's so good, why don't people just say that? Why don't they just say, we're willing to have collateral damage? We're going to bring in people that may not have traditional criteria or traditional resumes, but we're willing to take that risk with your life. They never say that.” For Victor’s latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don’t miss out on Victor’s latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today.
