Beryl Satter visits The Context of White Supremacy. Dr. Satter is a professor of history at Rutgers University in New Jersey, and her work was rewarded with a 2015 Guggenheim Grant. We'll examine her 2009 publication: Family Properties: Race, Real Estate and the Exploitation of Black Urban America. Ta-Nehisi Coates referenced this text in his prominently discussed analysis of why black people should be granted immense compensation for the terrorism Whites have subjected us to. Satter provides a comprehensive, blistering indictment of White real estate practices which restricted Chicago's black housing to horrendous areas with poor services and astronomical insurance rates. Black people were financially raped for the privilege of living in squalor; the Federal Housing Administration refused to issue home loans for black people. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Admitted Racist Randy Blazak. Mr. Blazak is part of the Department of Sociology at Portland State College. His research areas include: juvenile delinquency, hate crimes, masculinity, racism, prisons, and constructions of whiteness. He's currently investigating the transitioning of white supremacist inmates back into the community after their release from incarceration. He recently published a blog post titled, "How B.B. King got me to stop being a racist." Blazak discusses being raised in the birthplace of the modern Klu Klux Klan - Stone Mountain, Georgia; he "grew up in a racist family, in a racist town, in a racist state, in a racist country." Formerly JoAnne Chesimard, Shakur was a dedicated member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, convicted of killing New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, an escaped felon, the first woman placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List, and an author. She continues to inspire White angst as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently chided Pres. Obama's policy on Cuba: "The condition for which Cuba is able to join the rest of the civilized world must rest on the country's commitment to hand over every terrorist currently being harbored, starting with Joanne Chesimard." Cleveland, Ohio residents salivate over a possible return to the NBA Finals while simultaneously preparing for potential melees in response to the Michael Brelo verdict; Brelo is the lone Cleveland officer facing criminal charges for a 2012 shooting that left two unarmed black people dead and at least 137 shots fired. Ferguson smoldered in response to Michael Brown Jr.'s killing, there's been far less attention and rage for the alleged horrors of Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Black St. Louis mothers charge that they were given false information that their children died during the delivery process only for their babies to be stolen and sold. Formerly JoAnne Chesimard, Shakur is a veteran of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, the convicted killer of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, an escaped felon, the first woman ever placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List, and a writer. The diplomatic talks to upgrade the United State's ties with Cuba have prompted speculation about the chance of Shakur's extradition. Last week's installment featured an epic moment of self-reflection when Shakur recalls the verbal abuse black children heaped on each other; adding "Black" to any insult intensified the damage. As a child she was captivated by television and adored Elvis Presley. Later on during her New Jersey confinement, she was isolated from other inmates and denied access to appropriate medical care. Whites mused over the 11 adults and children who were killed and the dozens of black houses burned to the ground. No one was criminally charged for this catastrophe, and this week it was announced that no one would be charged for the police killing of Tony Robinson in Wisconsin. Abrupt disciplinary action was taken against New Jersey public school teacher Marilyn Zuniga; she was terminated for allowing her 3rd grade students to write "get well" cards to journalist and convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. In another prison news, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to the death penalty; perhaps this impacted some of our listeners thoughts on whether or not the convicted bomber is accepted as White. And Chicago had a bit of it all: An announcement of millions in reparations for black victims of Chicago Police Terrorism. Gus T. Renegade penned an essay for Atlanta Blackstar asking if black people are too quick to forgive Whites. Dr. Frances Cress Welsing was the root of this document - she discussed this matter in detail during her April 2015 visit. Mr. Peterson invited Gus to his program to converse about the article. With reservation, Gus accepted. There turned out to be no cause for apprehension. We discussed the mythology of black rapists, Suspected Rapist Daniel Holtzclaw and entertained a few callers. The UC Berkeley Black Student Union visits The Context of White Supremacy. These Bay Area black scholars drafted a list of 10 demands "to improve conditions of black students on campus." Chancellor Nicholas Dirks ultimately responded to their stipulations by "[removing] his office from the responsibility to implement solutions." The undeterred students directed a large protest on Saturday, April 18th. They shutdown Sather Gate to illustrate the Racist academic environment black students are subjected to. Relatives of Oscar Grant were present. These rebellious scholars linked the White Power that governs their prestigious university to the White Power that extinguishes the lives of Rekia Boyd, Miriam Carey, Kenneth Harding, Jr. and many more. They've asked that a building on campus be renamed for former Black Panther and "wanted terrorist" Assata Shakur. Grace Franklin is a black female and co-founder of this collective. The group is currently focusing on the case of Daniel Holtzclaw. This former Oklahoma City Police Officer was arrested in August of 2014. He's been fired from the police department and is charged with more than 30 counts of sexually terrorizing 13 black females. His trial date is set for October of 2015. With all of the attention on police brutality and misconduct, this case remains obscured. Before the party favors and litter from the Edmund Pettus bridge could be cleared, the internet was clogged with footage of the University of Oklahoma's chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon chanting about lynching niggers. Two of the White ringleaders were expelled, and the fraternity has been evicted from the Norman campus; the White perpetrators initially apologized, but have since initiated a law suit opposing their banishment. Speaking of White upstarts, two members of the Selma spectacle - Senators Rob Portman and Jeff Sessions - were among the 47 senators who authored a letter to Iran proclaiming that any negotiations with the nigger in the White house can be promptly nullified when Whites officially reclaim the Oval Office. She served as president and director of the African-American Police League and was also a part of the National Black Police Association. With so many years as a public servant in the Chicago area, we're eager to hear her thoughts on recent charges of Chicago Police Department "black sites" where mostly black citizens were tortured, abused, detained without being charged or given access to an attorney. We also hope to hear her perspective on the whether it would be best for black people to abstain from joining police departments.
