Dr. Baz Dreisinger visits The Context of White Supremacy. Dr. Dreisinger is an Associate Professor in the English Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She investigates American and African-American Studies. She founded and serves as Academic Director of John Jay's Prison-to-College Pipeline program, which offers college courses and reentry planning to incarcerated men at Otisville Correctional Facility. Dr. Dreisinger is an accomplished journalist and critic, writing about Caribbean culture, race-related issues, music and pop culture for the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Village Voice and Wall Street Journal. She helped create the documentary feature Hip-Hop Cop - which examines the New York Police Department's focus on black hip-hop artists. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Rehad Desai live from South Africa. Mr. Desai graduate from both the University of Zimbabwe and the University of the Witwatersrand. His family's South African heritage and the end of the so called Apartheid regime have greatly influenced his cinematic work. In 2008 he released Bhambatha: War of the Heads 1906 - it depicts black people actively opposing White Terrorism (Colonialism). Mr. Desai's most recent work examines the 2012 Lonmin Mining Massacre, Miners Shot Down. More than 100 black miners were killed - 36 fatalities. Mr. Desai's work contradicts misinformation around this butchering of black people. Following the first police shooting that produced 17 casualties, ambulances were not given access to dozens of wounded black people and enforcement officers hunted and killed an additional seventeen black Victims. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Saint Xavier University's Jacqueline Battalora, Ph.D.. Professor Battalora and Gus first met at the La Crosse, Wisconsin White Privilege Conference 2010. She conducted a masterful, surprisingly candid workshop entitled: The Invention of White People in Law. Unless Gus is mistaken, she has concluded that the White Racial Classification (The System of White Supremacy) was established to preserve and sanctify individuals who are classified /accepted as White - loosely correlated to phenotypical features of lighter complexion people. We will ask her to provide a scholarly, comprehensive explanation of WHY: White = Racist/White Supremacist. We will also request that she highlight the tendency of White people to celebrate/memorialize previous acts of White Supremacy and why everyone is required to practice and/or support White Supremacy in some form. Her theory is eerily similar to that of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's theory of White Genetic Annihilation. We will ask if Professor Battalora is familiar with her work. She describes herself as "a cash strapped freelance filmmaker and social justice activist." Her films have dealt with an array of issues - from pollution to male circumcision. We'll discuss a few of her essays which cover the murder of Trayvon Martin, President Jacob Zuma's penis, and how she is complicit in the maintenance of White Supremacy.
