The convicted White killer charged that it's "not fair" he has to listen to testimony from the black victims' families. While Roof's South Carolina death penalty trial continues, a black 15-year-old girl was savagely thrown to the ground by an enforcement official stationed at a North Carolina school. Witnesses reported that the child attempted to break up a fight involving her sister before being mauled by officer Ruben De Los Santos; he's now on leave. Speaking of reverse racism, a group of black Chicago youth are facing torture and hate crime charges after viral video purportedly shows them "torturing" a special-needs White male. The suspects reportedly yelled "F*ck Donald Trump" and "F*ck white people" into the camera. One of the sole constructive reports of the new year is journalist and Pennsylvania inmate Mumia Abu Jamal has been granted access to hepatitis C treatment. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fifth study session on Gwen Ifill's 2009 bestseller, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. A New York Times bestselling author, journalist and anchor at PBS, Ifill, 61, died from cancer in November 2016. Ifill was one of the lone black female mainstream journalists, and she regularly used her platform as a journalist to interogate the problem of Racism. In fact, White Supremacy likely contributed to her passing at such a young age. During last week's session, Ifill provided a comprehensive inspection of former Newark, New Jersey mayor and current United States Senator Corey Booker. A Stanford alumnus, who, like President Barack Obama, has a White parent, Booker is noted for having "a distinguished and distinctly nonghetto pedigree." The chapter details Booker as a charismatic new breed of black politician who recognizes that "race" remains a major problem. However, Ifill also detailed Booker's reputation for disparaging black people "in front of elite White audiences." The book also examined racial identity. The passing of Dr. Afeni Shakur, Gwen Ifill, Natalie Cole, Muhammad Ali, Prince, George Curry, Phife Dawg, Dr. Delbert Blair, Maurice White, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and numerous others made for a year of crushing loss. However, White Supremacists don't pause for sorrow or Christmas. In fact, a White EMT worker, Steve Sampson, used the holiday season to concoct a lie about black hoodlums looting his presents. However, Ifill cited hard data - including Department of Labor statics showing that more than two-thirds of all bachelor's degrees earned by African Americans are awarded to women, that suggests White Supremacy dominates. Ifill also examined the political ambitions of Artur Davis, who hoped to become the first black governor of Alabama. Davis thought he could follow in President Obama's triumph and rely on a sizable portion of White voters to support him. He was incorrect. After the publication of The Breakthrough, Davis lost his 2010 gubernatorial bid during the Democratic primary and eventually bolted to join the Republican party in 2012. At the time this book was published, Ifill considered Jesse Jackson Jr. another example of the new breed of successful black politicians. Jackson publicly clashed with his father, and supported Obama's rise the White House. Following the book's publication, Jackson's was convicted of financial improprieties and sentenced to federal prison. Dr. Glenda Elizabeth Gilmore visits The Context of White Supremacy. The Peter V & C Vann Woodward Professor of History at Yale University, Dr. Gilmore's work investigates 20th century United States history, African American history since the Civil War, U.S. women's and gender history since 1865 and the history of the American south. During a September visit, Dr. Tommy J. Curry recommended listeners read Dr. Gilmore's work for evidence that a significant number of black females and black males collectively rejected patriarchy and systemic oppression of females. We'll review her 1996 award-winning text, Gender & Jim Crow: Women and the Politics of White Supremacy in North Carolina, 1896 - 1920. Dr Gilmore chronicles how White Power was reconstructed following the Civil War. In particular, she reviews how White Men of the Carolina state unified around the notion of protecting White Women from raping black brutes. A reported terrorist attack at a German Christmas market left twelve dead and more than forty injured. Chancellor Angela Merkel's policy of accepting immigrants (non-white people) is being widely rejected. TIME Magazine reported that her critics accuse her of "importing terrorism to Germany." United States domestic terrorism was memorialized as this week marked the thirty year anniversary of the murder of Michael Griffith. He was hit by a car while fleeing a gang a baseball-bat-wielding White Terrorists. The predominantly black residents of Flint, Michigan continue to struggle to acquire clean water, but this week new criminal indictments were leveled against former emergency managers. This could be another incident of Racial Showcasing as Darnell Early, a black male, is often projected as a central offender. Like everything else, the holiday season supports the System of Racism. Dutch journalist and political candidate Sylvia Simons was Racially Terrorized for critiquing the White Supremacist tradition of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete). Simon's face was "super-imposed on the hanged bodies of victims of a lynching." Whites in England broadcast a BBC documentary on what some would describe as the 2011 lynching of Mark Duggan by Metropolitan Police. The project obscured the centrality of White Supremacy in Duggan's death and the ensuing coverage of the killing as well as the days of "rioting." Black Is The New Black, a four-part series also aired on the BBC, features Thandie Newton, Naomi Campbell, Dizzee Rascal, Alesha Dixon and some of the most recognizable, most accomplished black Britons alive. Before being convicted, prosecutors released evidence that Roof had a catalog of other black churches at the time of his arrest - suggesting he thought of killing more unarmed back people. A witness testified that someone in Roof's house called Mother Emanuel AME months before the June 2015 terrorist attack and new GPS evidence showed Roof visited the church more than once in the months before his assault - showing the meticulous preparation invested in this operation. The sentencing phase of the trial will begin in January; Roof will reportedly represent himself during this portion of the proceedings. Another White Man regularly labeled a White Supremacist, President-elect Donald J. Trump met with retired football players Jim Brown and Ray Lewis about how he can help "make African Americans great again." Michael Slager, the former police officer who killed unarmed Walter Scott, walked free after a mistrial. Two days after failing to convict one White killer, the federal death penalty trial of White Terrorist Dylann Storm Roof began. If convicted, Roof could be executed for his June 2015 terrorist attack on Mother Emanuel AME Church, where he massacred 9 black worshippers including an elected official. The trial began by recounting the grousome details of Roof's purge. In Louisiana, a different White killer, Ronald Gasser, was finally arrested for killing former NFL star Joe McKnight. Gasser, who has a criminal history of "road rage," shot and killed the unarmed McKnight on Thursday of last week, but enjoyed his freedom until Monday of this week. The filmmakers will join us to re-examine an important incident from the beginning of 2016. Three black female University of Albany students, Ariel Agudio, Asha Burwell, and Alexis Briggs, reported that a mob of drunken White passengers assailed them on a CDTA public bus. Many expressed outrage about the incident, including presidential candidate Hillary R. Clinton, who posted, "There's no excuse for racism and violence on a college campus." However, weeks after the incident, university police publicized segments of video. Officials concluded the footage absolved the White passengers of any wrongdoing and proceeded to charge the three black females with assault and filing a false report. The three were indicted in May. Ms. Browder was an indomitable advocate for her son, Kalief, who committed suicide after years of incarceration and solitary confinement at New York's Rikers Island. If ever someone needed to be caged, it's Jessica Sanders. Earlier this summer, Sanders, a White Woman, spat on a black couple while repeatedly calling them niggers. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 6thth and final study session on Sam Greenlee's 1969 tour de force, The Spook Who Sat By The Door. The bestseller was adapted into a major motion picture in 1973 and remains a beloved testimony to 1960's black fury. Greenlee died in 2014. The main character, Dan Freeman, becomes the first black agent at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Freeman gains as much inteligence as possible in order to teach his skills and expertise to terrorized black people so that they can train for a counter-violence offensive against White Supremacy. Last week's session discussed the invasion of Chicago by white National Guard troops. The invaders' explicit directive was to restore White rule and negro subordination. Dan Freeman assuaged the angst of White fellow White social workers, while preparing the Cobras to devastate the National Guard. Freeman's counter-revolutionaries capture Colonel "Bull" Evans and poison him with LSD. Significantly, in the film, Evans is drugged and killed; in the text he's allowed to live.
