But this year, three package bombs have killed two black people and seriously injured a "hispanic" female in Austin during the first two weeks of the March. Police suspect the crimes are related and might be racially motivated. Speaking of blacks being targeted, Congresswoman Maxine Waters was explicitly maligned by President Donald Trump this week. The commander in chief charged that Waters is intellectually inferior - an accusation aimed against black people by generations of Whites. In Connecticut, Brianna Brochu, a White teen, received judicial lenience for her 2017 campaign of terrorism against her former University of Hartford black roommate. And speaking of dangerous White Women, White Identity Extremist Dylann Storm Roof's sister was arrested for toting a firearm on school property. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the second study session on Angie Thomas's critically acclaimed young adult novel, The Hate U Give. Penned in response to the 2009 police slaughter of Oscar Grant, Thomas's work "debuted at the top of The New York Times's Young Adult best-seller list, and has drawn ecstatic praise from critics, librarians, book sellers and prominent young-adult novelists," says The Times's Alexandra Alter. The book received such immense admiration, it's being transformed to a major motion picture starring The Hunger Games's Amandla Stenberg. The first week's session described Starr, a scholarly black teen and the main character of the book. Starr and her black friends sneak into a party with drugs, alcohol, drinking and profanity. After watching gun shots and brawls at the party, Starr and her friend are stopped by an enforcement official. A conflict ensues and the White officer kills Starr's black male companion, Khalil. Readers are informed that Starr has already lost a childhood friend to gun violence. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of Dr. Martin Kevorkian. A professor of English at the University of Texas Austin, Dr. Kevorkian wrote Color Monitors: The Blackface of Technology in America. The book investigates White Supremacy in cinema and suggests that non-white people are often symbolically depicted as robots and other non-human entities in White films and narratives. He's visited The C.O.W.S. numerous times over the years to discuss an array of films. This time we'll briefly revisit Netflix's Black Mirror. This sci-fi anthology, which began as a British television series, has become a global critics choice. The fourth season was recently released, and the six episodes reinforce many of the Racist themes we previously discussed with Dr. Kevorkian. We'll pay acute attention to the depiction of black males throughout the series. We'll also discuss Matt Damon's two most recent projects, Downsizing and Suburbicon. The former tackles overpopulation and environmental destruction, by imagining technology that would allow humans to be shrank to mere inches. Suburbicon is a Coen brother film that's eerily similar to their 1997 smash hit Fargo. While a neighborhood of White Terrorists assaults the lone black family to "integrate" their area, Matt Damon and a cadre of gangsters, including his Damon's sister-in-law, Julianne Moore, bungle a conspiracy to kill his wife and defraud the insurance company. The racial strife helps conceal Damon's treachery. Cheryle Moses visits The Context of White Supremacy. The founder of Urban MediaMakers, a group for filmmakers and content producers, Moses garnered sizable attention with her "Come Meet A Black Person" campaign. She reportedly concludes that "many white people want to begin to cultivate relationships with black people but don't know how." The "Meet a Black Person" event is uniquely designed to give "well-meaning" Whites the chance to make the acquaintance of an unfamiliar black person. Moses cites research that the vast majority of Whites do not have black friends. Her reasoning suggests that Racism/White Supremacy is the product of Whites being unfamiliar with black people. In the same state, a White female school teacher, Dayanna Volitich, was relieved of her teaching responsibilities after it became public that she hosted a "White Nationalist" podcast during her leisure time. On the other side of the world, Rufaro Chisango, a black female student at Nottingham Trent University and College Union, captured video of her White classmates chanting "we hate blacks" as they stampeded through the dormitory. The young Race Soldiers were later arrested. Also in Europe, actor Marius Makon was terrorized by a White Woman in a Madrid bar. The Race Soldier allegedly bludgeoned him across the head with a beer bottle, shouting: "I'm white... The decision was widely cheered as yet another watershed moment for the LGBTQ community. Meanwhile victories for black people have been hard to count. A substantial number of the youth division of the White race are devoting time and energy to the subject of gun laws. After "White Identity Extremist" Nikolas Cruz slaughtered more than a dozen children at a Florida school, Whites are again chinwagging about the possibility of symbolically castrating Whites, restricting access to certain firearms. After nearly a decade of the "Obama effect," where historic numbers of Whites purchased firearms in response to the first non-white president, the Trump era has reversed the fad, there are now more guns than White buyers. A research psychologist at the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, Dutton's research interests include persuasion and social influence, and the psychopathic personality. Dutton is classified as a White man and was born in the United Kingdom. Years ago, Dr. Niyana Rasayon recommended that C.O.W.S. listeners investigate this book for an nuanced understanding of what it means to be classified as White. The previous session discussed Dutton excursion to a European detention center where psychopaths are caged. He continued to stress the essential traits of psychopaths which can be applied - allegedly in moderation - for everyday people to strive for success. Dutton praises the courage, mindfulness, creativity and ruthlessness that psychopaths exercise, but he consistently minimizes the violence and mistreatment connected to these charming abusers. The Context of White Supremacy recognizes our 9th year broadcasting. Joining us for the occasion is author, educator, father and attempted counter-racist scientist Dr. Kamau Kambon. Nikolaus Cruz, 19, has been arrested and charged with killing 17 people during a school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Unlike Miriam I. Carey, Walter Scott and an infinite number of unarmed Black victims of police terrorism, Cruz was taken into custody unharmed. CNN reports that Cruz used social media to "[hurl] slurs at blacks and Muslims... and had ties to White Supremacists." Multiple tragedies struck during the middle of Black History Month, as historian, author and journalist Lerone Bennett Jr. died this week at the age of 89. The former editor of JET and Ebony magazines, Bennett wrote nearly a dozen books, including: Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America and Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincolnâ??s White Dream. Celebrated and criticized illustrations of black people abounded this week, as portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama were revealed - the latter depicted holding a decapitated head. Lorne Cress Love returns to The Context of White Supremacy. A lifelong activist and former member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Ms. Cress Love is also the sister of the late psychiatrist and author of The Isis Papers, Dr. Frances Cress Welsing. In addition to sharing her recollections and love for her sister, we'll also discuss her brother-in-law Robert Lawrence, who was recently recognized by NASA for his contributions to the United States's space program. Mr. Lawrence died while training a White pilot in 1967. Ms. Cress Love suspects her brother-in-law's death may not have been accidental. Automobile titan Dodge was also admonished for exploiting the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a Super Bowl advertisement peddling vehicles. The area of entertainment dominated the week with the release of Marvel's Black Panther. Much like the 2017 smash Get Out, the portrayal of black "superheroes" who use their time and energy in pursuit of justice is being promoted globally and critically acclaimed. Speaking of a "superhero," PBS released a superb documentary on South African freedom fighter Winnie Mandela. The film details her philosophy on counter-violence, her decades of service to counter-racism, and the strategic and international efforts Whites made to neutralize and dominate the Mandelas, all black people. Apartheid-style violence was on display in Gus's Seattle, Washington, where a black male was mauled with a baseball bat by White Terrorists. The Race Soldiers were allegedly motivated to violence because the black male was rumored to be sexually involved with a White Woman. Dr. David Campt, a black male, was welcomed to Seattle, Washington's historic Queen Anne neighborhood to deliver his "White Ally Toolkit." Dr. Campt's presentation offers suggestions on ways Whites can talk to Racists to bring about a different way of thinking. Approximately 50 "well-meaning" Whites gave up their Saturday morning to attend Dr. Campt's presentation - which was held in a church. Gus. T. Mr. Shrewsberry is a former enforcement official, former certified fire and explosion investigator, and forensic investigator. He was named the 1995 Police Officer of the Year by the South Carolina Rotary Club and currently serves as executive director of The Institute for Criminal Justice Training Reform. Shrewsberry was mildly cheered when he penned a 2017 essay titled: "I Was A Racist Cop." He admits working with Race Soldiers who told racist jokes and called black people niggers while he silently co-signed this behavior. Darling Turner visits The Context of White Supremacy. An Austin-based physicianâ??s assistant and certified doula, Ms. Turner established the Healing Hands Doula Project to support "healthy pregnancies and births for women of color in Texas." Additionally, she hosts the Mamas on Bedrest & Beyond podcast, which is engineered to "provide new mamas tips and information on topics ranging from prenatal nausea to post partum depression to infant teething." Turner said the staggering levels of maternal mortality rates for black females in Texas prompted her to action. Ms. Turner offers resources for new parents and helps to put expecting mothers in touch with doulas. We'll discuss nutrition tips for mothers who plan to breastfeed and ask about ways of minimizing invasive and unnecessary surgeries. Three black UCLA basketball players accused of stealing sunglasses while visiting China, were the main criminals Californians wanted to focus on. Speaking of black thugs, Attorney General Jeff Sessions was questioned by members of the House of Representatives about a number activities since he joined President Trump's staff at the beginning of this year. Congresswoman Karen Bass used her time to question Sessions about his department's report on "black identity extremists" and their alleged proclivity for violence. Postman is a Suspected Racist, who authored a stack of well regarded literature, including: Amusing Ourselves To Death; Teaching as a Subversive Activity; and How to Watch TV News. A prolific writer, Postman penned 18 books, was a professor of media ecology at New York University, and a critic of technology and the use of words. Students of counter-racism recognize the primary weapon of Racists is the incorrect and deceptive use of words. We'll remember this while investigating Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk. Last week's session explored the different varieties of "propaganda" - emphasizing that emotional attempts to persuade most often work best on groups of people as opposed to individuals. A suspect used the day to drive a truck down a pedestrian path in New York City; eight people died in the incident which was immediately branded an act of terrorism to be closely associated with the 2001 9/11 attacks. Barely 24 hours later, a White man, Scott Allen Ostrem, opened fire in Colorado Wal-Mart, but he was not labeled a terrorist. A University of Hartford White female student, Brianna Brochu, is accused of orchestrating a weeks long campaign of chemical and biological warfare against her black roommate. She posted on social media that she had shoved her black roommate's toothbrush in her rectum and smeared used tampons on her belongings. Although has been arrested, she has not thought of as a terrorist. U.S. Senator Tim Scott was violently threatened by a Suspected Race Soldier who was angered that the South Carolina lawman verbally disparaged convicted mass killer Dylann Storm Roof. Jason Kenneth Bell has been arrested for threatening to Sen. Scott and is alleged to have also threatened NAACP members and praised the actions of Roof. A prolific writer, Postman penned 18 books, was a professor of media ecology at New York University, and delivered astute analysis of technology and language. Domino, a Louisiana native limited to a fourth grade education because of racism, lived to see 89, sold millions of records, and survived Hurricane Katrina and the 2005 levee failure. Guillaume acted in television and film for decades while challenging restraints on what black entertainers could do. Speaking of prohibition, President Donald Trump verbalized plans to address the White opioid epidemic as a "public health emergency." A Virginia high school was in crisis after video depicted White middle school students simulating the rape of black children while shouting they would "fuck the black out" of them. Sensitivity training is planned. The "medical apartheid" against black people continues as the Los Angeles Times reports the staggering maternal mortality rate for black mothers in the US.
