The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the fourth and final session on Harry Dunn's Standing My Ground: A Capitol Police Officer's Fight for Accountability and Good Trouble After January 6th. Dunn is a privileged black male and has served with the U.S. Capitol Police since 2008 - the same year Barack Obama became president. Dunn was present for the infamous January 6th, 2021 Terrorist attacks at the U.S. Capitol building and reports that he was repeatedly called racist slurs and forced to use counter-violence to keep himself and others safe. Later in 2021, Dunn testified before the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. Dunn has now resigned his position with the Capitol Police Department and announced a run for Maryland's open Congressional seat. Last week, Dunn provided more details about what transpired on the day of the insurrection. He reminds listeners that many members of the hoard consumed alcohol and other narcotics while they stampeded through the Capitol building. Others defecated, vomited and urinated on the premises to demonstrate their fury over the allegedly stolen presidential election. Dunn demands that listeners question who told certain officers not to wear riot gear. Rather, they were instructed to store resources in a locked bus parked a considerable distance from the maelstrom. Apparently, distraught officers could not locate the bus key when the riot gear was needed. Dunn tells readers that this event is unprecedented in US history and has no comparison. Readers and Gus noted that this inaccurate. There were a number of riots at state capitols around the continent in 2020. The University of Washington's Center for Anti-Racism & Community Health hosts a panel discussion on "anti-blackness" and the impact of Professor Dorothy Roberts scholarship. “Moderated by the American Ethnic Studies Department's Dr. Oliver Rollins, panelists will discuss the impacts of Roberts' scholarship across law, public policy, medical ethics, nursing, and sociology. Additional panelists include the School of Nursing's Dr. Monica McLemore, American Ethnic Studies' Dr. LaShawnDa Pittman, and the Department of Bioethics and Humanities' Dr. LaTonya Trotter.” Interestingly, the description for this event says “broken systems.” However, during the discussion, Roberts and other panelists emphasized that the system is working as intended - brutalizing black people. Also, panelists were asked near the end of the discussion if they had a definition of Racism. No one volunteered to briefly share their definition. Dr. Oliver Rollins said he intends to email his definition. We shall see. Although Gus was present for this event, few black males were in this mostly White audience. Pay close attention for the commentary about the temporal correlation between the age of White scientific enlightenment and the global slave trade. Many of the revered White philosophers wrote eloquently about White Supremacy. Three time C.O.W.S. guest and the George A. Weiss University Professor of Law & Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania ventured across the continent to give a presentation at Seattle’s University of Washington. Her talk is entitled: “The Urgency of Reproductive Justice.” Roberts included the Tennessee arrest of Bianca Clayborne and Deonte Williams. Their five children were snatched after the attempted parents were accused of illegal possession of cannabis. She also referenced the Ohio persecution of Brittany Watts, where a black attempted mother may be charged for defiling a corpse following the miscarriage of her child. She requested medical assistance, but did not get adequate, timely help. Gus T. was proud to hear the Afiya Center in Texas continues to do constructive work helping pregnant black mothers. Their executive director, Marsha Jones, was a guest on The C.O.W.S. in 2017. Roberts also detailed the history of White Supremacist sterilizations against non-white females. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Michael F. Vecchione. “Recently retired as chief of the Rackets Division of the Kings County District Attorney’s Office,” Mr. Vecchione is a retired prosecuting attorney, non-fiction writer and Long Island City, New York resident. He co-authored Crooked Brooklyn: Taking Down Corrupt Judges, Dirty Politicians, Killers and Body Snatchers in Brooklyn. This details some of the more salacious cases of Vecchione’s career - including Racist Suspect Michael Mastromarino. This White dentist was a Master Deceiver and mastermind of a body parts smuggling ring. In addition to helping to convict Mastromarino, Vecchione co-authored Behind the Murder Curtain: Special Agent Bruce Sackman Hunts Doctors and Nurses Who Kill Our Veterans. About half of this text is devoted to the infamous Michael Swango. This book focuses on Swango murdering and lying at the New York state veteran’s hospital. Swango killed (or tried to kill) a number of patients there - including privileged black male veteran Andrew Wood, who survived the attack. Vecchione told us he thinks many of Swango’s victims were classified as black. He also classified the conduct of numerous White health care executives and hospital officials as “lazy” for not properly vetting. Swango. He also noted that the Civil Disturbance Unit was curiously told to leave their equipment at a different location to be retrieved once things escalate - which obviously wastes time. During his morning commute to work, he received a text message which included a detailed account of the treasonous and violent intentions of the days insurrectionists. He dismissed the warning. Dunn says he and many other black officers were pelted with Racist insults - and bear spray. White female protesters Ashli Babbitt and Rosanne Boyland, who both died during the melée, were profiled. And Dunn offered heaps of sympathy for White junkie Boyland, who, contrary to many reports that she was trampled to death, overdosed in the middle of the coup. Officer Antonio receives much less humanity. The "volunteer state" of Tennessee provides a stunning illustration of why Gus strongly promotes no sexual activity with co-workers. About a half dozen officers were fired - including the black male police chief, several officers were suspended, and high-priced lawsuits are pending. A 24-year-old White Woman and former officer, Meagan Hall, is reported to have had sexual intercourse and exchanged pornographic images with her male co-workers. Hall says that as a rookie officer, the more experienced male officers took advantage of her naïveté for their sexual gratification. FOX17 in Nashville reports: "Other officers gave information in their interviews related to two more allegations, including sexual harassment and a 'girls gone wild' hot tub party at a sergeant's house.” Gus says keep all this in mind when co-workers invite you to the New Year's Eve bash. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Vernice L. Haddix. A student of aeronautics and formed Manager of Land Sight Operations at Sea-Tac Airport in Washington state, we’ll discuss Dr. Haddix’s 2022 dissertation: The Motivation to Lead and Black Men's Lived Experiences in Airport Management. Dr. Haddix highlights that there is a substantial lack of research on what motivates black males to seek leadership positions in the workplace and even less data on the black male experience in the field of aviation. To make it explicit, in 2020, the Federal Aviation Administration reported that: “Of the 519 U.S. primary commercial service airports, fewer than 10 are led by African American men.” We’ll explore the interviews that Dr. Haddix conducted with the rare black dude who manages a major airport. Gus noted that many of these well-educated aviators used a variety of exotic metaphors to convey their thoughts and experiences about the System of White Supremacy/Racism. One black male stated bluntly that “You have to be white.” Other black males seemed reluctant to acknowledge the existence of Racism at all. Ellis died in police clutches singing the usual refrain: "I can't breathe." In Colorado, a pair of White paramedics were convicted of homicide for the 2019 death of privileged black male Elijah McClain, who died in police clutches. The 19-year-old McClain was reported to police for allegedly "acting strange." Also in Colorado, former President Donald J. Trump's name has been redacted from state presidential ballots because of his involvement in the January 6th insurrection. Other states may follow Colorado's lead for the coming presidential election. After numerous incidents of incorrect usage, the pharmacy giant Rite Aid has been banned from using facial recognition technology in their stores. She failed her teaching certification six, now, seven, times and was forced to take a $15,000 reduction in salary. State Senators, mostly classified as White, approved a new policy that provides an alternative to standardized tests for educators to be certified. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Paul Kix, Racist Suspect. A White Man raised in Hubbard, Iowa, which is a Racially Restricted Region with a 98% White population, Kix is “a writer who loves to tell big beating-heart stories about larger-than-life people in precarious situations.” He’s married to a non-white female and places that at the front and conclusion of his new book, You Have to Be Prepared to Die Before You Can Begin to Live - which is a quote from legendary Alabama activist Fred Shuttlesworth. Kix focuses on the Birmingham, Alabama protests in the spring of 1963. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. drew national attention to the abuses heaped on black people in a town nicknamed “Bombingham” because of the routine White Terrorism. Children took the starring role in the upheaval as Racist Eugene ‘Bull’ Connor used police canines and fire hoses to brutalize black people. We’ll ask why Kix chose to revisit well documented events from more than 60 years ago. We’ll also see if he thinks White people having sex with non-white people will eliminate the System of White Supremacy. They were awarded $148 million in damages, although some speculate that Giuliani may lack the coin to pay up. In Mississippi, family of 11-year-old Aderrien Murray were informed that no charges would be filed against the black male officer who shot the 11-year-old while responding to a domestic dispute call. #FirstTimeLastTime And in Colorado, black citizens requested a state task force to examine how the System of White Supremacy impacts black Coloradans in all areas of people activity. #IsaiahShoels We also revisit Dr. Geoff K. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 9th and final study session on James B. Stewart's Blind Eye: The Terrifying Story of a Doctor Who Got Away with Murder. Stewart is an awarding journalist, attorney, and celebrated true crime author. He nabbed a Pulitzer Prize for his work on "insider trading" and stock market malfeasance during the 1980's. Stewart also hoisted an Edgar Award for his 1999 book investigating the "smooth, good looking" but deadly Michael Swango. This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many murders Swango committed. Last week, we heard how Swango got cheap room and board from a White Woman in Zimbabwe who managed to hang on to black house servants in spite of Robert Mugabe. Swango hoarded bacon by the pound, stole things, sabotaged the vehicle, and maybe poisoned the house peanut butter. He also poisoned White children while successfully evading African authorities. Black female patient Rena Cooper wrote a 1989 letter to the judge who presided over her civil suit for being poisoned by Swango. She emphasizes her lack of hate for Swango and hopes he gets the help he’s “asking for and needs.” Since being incarcerated for the rest of his life, Swango has adamantly refused mental health resources. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes J.C. Hallman. A White Man born and raised in Southern California. He studied writing at the University of Pittsburgh, the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins, and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Gus found out about Mr. Hallman in a recent American Medical Association presentation on “Truth and Reconciliation in Medicine.” They discussed the history of the AMA excluding black doctors and abusing black patients. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Geoff K. Ward. Gus T. and listeners were confused about Dr. Ward’s racial classification. After some prodding, Dr. Ward conceded that he has one non-white biological parent and one White biological parent. He was adopted by a black family and was not informed about his biological parents until much later in life. He mentioned that because of his pale complexion, he was not subjected to the same types of abuse as darker black males when he was alone. Dr. Ward was prepared to discuss how other black people have challenged his status as “black.” He did not provide one example of someone classified as White practicing Racism against him. A professor of African and African American Studies and a faculty affiliate in American culture studies and sociology at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Ward studies “the legacies of racial violence, representative social control, and the racial politics of youth justice.” He’s also a member of the Reparative Justice Coalition, which, as Gus understands it, works to recognize and remember acts of White Terrorism perpetuated against black people. Gus heard Dr. Ward’s commentary regarding the 1894 lynching of John Buckner in Valley Park, Missouri. Current-day White residents staunchly reject planting a memorial in the town because: One, Buckner was a black male rapist. Two, said negro rapist was not lynched in Valley Park. Dr. Ward studies how the history of White Terrorism had a myriad of current impacts on areas such a corporal punishment of school children and black homicide rates. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Jamie Salazar. Described as a “Mexican American and Indiana native,” we’ll first have to get clarification about whether or not Mr. Salazar is classified as a White Man. It says he was born to “underpaid Mexican immigrants” on the Amazon page for his 2005 memoir, Legion of the Lost: The True Experience of An American in the French Foreign Legion. He explicitly told Gus that at times he is accepted as a White Man. And he knows this because Racists assume he is also Racist White Man when they launch into Racist Jokes. Nearly twenty years after that book, Salazar returns to writing about soldiers with his 2021 publication, Mutiny of Rage: The 1917 Camp Logan Riots and Buffalo Soldiers in Houston. Numerous outlets recently reported that after more than a century, 110 black soldiers, all deceased, will be given clemency for their convictions in the Camp Logan racial unrest. Salazar details what led to the armed conflagration that resulted in more White casualties than black. A key factor was black soldiers being charged as “uppity”/“militant” for rejecting their place in the System of White Supremacy. Gus learned quite a bit about the “Lone Star State,” and noted a couple of major errors in Salazar’s work. One instance being that Salazar writes that Suspected White Supremacist Carolyn Bryant Donham, who falsely accused Emmett Till of verbally accosting her and allegedly participated in having the black teen lynched in August 1955, died in 2008 and recanted her part in the murder. Egregious errors (deliberate lies?). Donham lived until 2023, and she never recanted her testimony about the "wolf-whistling" Chicago boy. Salazar also claims that White people de-funded police departments in the US after the 2020 police killing of George Floyd. In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams, who was already being investigated for illegal campaign finances involving foreign officials, now faces charges for sexual abuse. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Suspected White Supremacist Cindy Entriken. Classified as a White Woman, Entriken owns two master’s degrees and is 31 hours from completing her PhD. She’s an avid reader, and recently had an op-ed published in the Kansas City Star detailing her White family’s quarrel with the local Klu Klux Klan. Entriken provides more details about this dispute in her memoir, Ila’s War - a non-fiction narrative about her great aunt’s life times in the early 20th century. She details her family’s travels from Kansas to Colorado - two areas with heavy KKK presence and lots of Racially Restricted Regions/Sundown Towns. In fact, Entriken describes James Mitchell as the only black dude in Lincoln, Kansas. Mitchell is affectionately branded “Niggra Jim.” Entriken abruptly left the program when Gus pointed out her numerous examples of faux “White Victimization” and ambiguous metaphors. She wrote that “a racist idea just seems to pop into my head from outer space.” While speaking on The C.O.W.S., she told us she “stumbles across” her own Racist Thoughts/Deeds. Haller doubled down and said that knowing Swango was convicted of poisoning White paramedics would not deter him from hiring Swango again. Listeners and Gus suspect Swango would have been found not guilty if he opted for a trial by jury as opposed to accepting the Judge's verdict. In the middle of all this, Ohio State University medical officials remained as codified and tight-lipped as Godfather thugs. After many questions, Dr. Qato told Gus that she is classified as White although she was born in the area of the world known as Palestine and considers herself “arab,” and “middle eastern.” She also let us know she has blue eyes and is employed in a profession with few dark people. Currently serving as the Hygeia Centennial Chair and Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Dr. Qato has also been appointed as a Senior Fellow with the USC Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. Gus found her research on Racism and Pharmacy access in the US while discussing the rash of pharmacy closures and the adverse impact on black people in particular. Similar to so called “food deserts,” “pharmacy deserts” means that black people especially and non-white in general have predictably less access to pharmacies than White people and fewer services offered at these sparse locations - such as 24 hour access, home delivery and in-store immunizations. We’ll emphasize that White people are not ignorant about black people’s poor access to pharmacies. This is what they want. During the same week as Mosby's conviction, New York City Mayor Eric Adams had his phone seized by FBI agents. It's reported that Adams is suspected of knowingly receiving campaign funds from "Turkish nationals." Also in NYC, former convicted rapist Yusef Salaam rebounded from his racist incarceration in the Central Park 5 rape case to win a seat on the City Council. Since former President Donald J. Even though he was awarded "Employee of the Month" for his top-notch barista work; he was reprimanded for repeatedly forgoing his lunch break to cover for absent and shiftless co-workers. We remind non-white workers to refrain from taking on workplace duties and responsibilities that are not your assignment. Black and non-white workers are often encouraged to work ourselves sick toiling to cover company shortcomings. Do not feel obligated or pressured to cover every vacant shift or to correct every problem. The "Veterans Day" holidays means a number of non-white people in the US might have time away from the plantation. Be safe and constructive with your time. We'll discuss the alarming rise in attacks on small businesses around the US. Here in Washington state, many small businesses have moved out of Seattle proper. A forensic psychiatrist, writer and historian, Dr. Kaplan is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong’s Graduate School of Medicine. Gus stumbled upon his research while investigating Michael Swango, a White convicted serial killer who murdered White and non-white people from Illinois to Africa. Mr. Swango is no anomaly, White medical serial workers have avoided detection and managed to kill hundreds of unsuspecting patients. Employees allege they were tormented with nooses, Racist graffiti and even violence against black employees. A class action lawsuit was filed with 18 former employees. A judge dismissed the claims of 11 plaintiffs, arguing that they lacked evidence to prove Racist abuse. Gus used this report to emphasize that if you are subjected to workplace violence by anyone, you should make a police report and press charges to the fullest extent of the law. This will provide another form of documentation that will be admissible in court.
