Ep 103060 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Do We Turn an Undesirable Result Into an Opportunity?

Hello to you listening in Desert Hot Springs, California!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Recently a friend said that she was struggling because the job she had she didn’t want, the job she wanted she didn’t get, so she felt like a failure. Is there an alternative? What if we look objectively at the lost job opportunity as an experiment that didn’t produce the expected results. Does that mean it failed? Not if we look at it as a data point, information pointing you in a better direction. Jonas Salk (American virologist & inventor of the polio vaccine) once said, “There is no such thing as a failed experiment, because learning what doesn't work is a necessary step to learning what does.” Or, as the famous American jazz musician Louis Armstrong said, “It’s taken me all my life to learn what not to play.” Practical Tip: Think of a time when you believed you had failed but you figured out how to turn that experience into an opportunity and grow toward your better self. How did you do that? What will help you do it again and again? You will because you’ve got what it takes! You know how to experiment! You You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Hello to you listening in Edmond, Oklahoma!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds of Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you practice paying attention to signs, symbols, people, and opportunities that show us the way, help us make a decision, provide what we need just when we need it. The Universe has unlimited ways to get our attention, wake us up, and help guide us on the path. It’s a good reminder that we do not go it alone. The other day I reconnected with Donna Cravotta, friend, colleague and the brilliance behind Cravotta Media Group and Real 50 Over 50 Visibility Project. We arranged for a 20-minute Meet & Greet that became a richly rewarding 90-minute heart-to-heart dialogue.Along the way I learned about a daily practice that Donna has taught others: You don’t go to bed until you can name something you learned and someone you helped.Story Prompt: What daily practice of yours keeps you going? Ep 102760 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: Build & Deliver Your Origin Story With the Spirit of Who You Are

Hello to you listening in Freeland, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. For over a dozen years I helped trial attorneys create and deliver winning trial stories and strategies to pre-trial focus groups, judges, and juries. My clients learned that simply recounting the facts misses the emotional story. My expertise is showing my clients how to marry content with context to create a memorable story that connects, engages, and influences the listener to action. What's a memorable story? As I’ve taught for decades, it’s “a heartfelt story artfully told." It invites your listeners to connect their emotions, memories, and experiences in a profoundly human way to the story being told. Connected listeners are engaged listeners. Engaged listeners can recall and take action on your message.Your Origin Story is one of the most consequential messages you will tell to connect and engage with your audience. It’s told in your words, your voice, your power. We build it with the Spirit of who you are - your Story Spirit.Along the way you will gain confidence, clarity and focus as you learn to decisively use the tools common to every human connection experience. Whether you create your Origin Story as a marketing, branding, About Page, keynoting, idea-pitching, or public speaking tool, I can help you find the words you didn’t know you had to give voice to your Origin Story - the one that’s been waiting to be told - the one that reveals how you got from There to Here. CTA: If you’re curious, email me at [email protected] to learn more. It’s time to tell your story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 102660 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Do You Strive For Excellence or Perfection?

Hello to you listening in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Podcast episode number 1,000 aired on Monday 1st January 2024 New Years’s Day. That’s a lot of episodes! What do I talk about? I talk about things that interest me, which is the magic of traditional storytelling, navigating our way in life, changing toxic narratives, personal experiences that have shape-shifted over time into wisdom, and the power of women’s voices.I’ve been spending less time struggling to create my work because I’m no longer striving for perfection. I want to say what I mean, mean what I say, and use only a minute or two to get my point across. Is it perfection? Not so much. Is it excellence? Perhaps every now and again. What changed me? This line by the American-British author, Henry James, considered to be among the greatest novelists in the English language. “Excellence does not require perfection.” [Henry James]Question: What do you strive for? Ep 102460 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: It’s (Almost) My Birthday! Make a Wish - Blow Out the Candles - Believe

Hello to you listening in Cheyenne, Wyoming!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga inviting you to celebrate your Happy Birthday Continuation Day with me as I celebrate mine on Sunday February 4th!It’s a tradition to light the candles on a birthday cake and say, "Make a wish. Blow out the candles!"Where did this tradition begin? Maybe it’s true or maybe it isn’t, but as the story goes the ancient Greeks in the time of Zeus brought round-shaped cakes adorned with lit candles when they visited the temple of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and the moon. The Romans called her Diana. As you can imagine, the lit candles made the round cakes glow like the moon. Others believe that the smoke from the candles carries the wishes and prayers heavenward where they will be granted - in time - although not always in the form they were expected. When it’s your birthday light the candles, make a wish and believe it will come true for you. Birthday wishes are like that! Guaranteed!Story Prompt: What Birthday Wishes of yours might have unexpectedly come true, and not in the form they were expected? Write that story? Ep 102260 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: How Will You Create the Conditions to Flourish?

Hello to you listening in Morden, Manitoba Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more)for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane WyzgaIt’s been years and years but I’ve never forgotten that moment in time when my baby brother, Paul and I were in the kitchen washing up the dishes after Easter Sunday dinner at the family home. I was riding high then, flush with success in Lightning Rod Communications, my nationally-recognized litigation consulting firm. I had been going on and on about the good work I was doing, the income I was earning, and so on and so forth, as we do, when he asked me: “But are you flourishing?”Interesting word, flourishing, from the Latin & Old French meaning to blossom, to flower, to grow. I forget what I said in response; but my long ago answer doesn’t matter because his question keeps coming around: "Are you flourishing?"Some of you might feel frustrated that I’m not offering an answer, maybe feel I’m holding back something of myself. The truth of it is my answer today is my clue to finding another hidden treasure in my Origin Story.Question: What about you? Where and how are you flourishing? And, if not, how will you create the conditions to flourish?CTA: Consider beginning with your Origin Story: how you got from There to Here and why that matters. As you learn to say what you mean and mean what you say your story will leverage your business, bring your wisdom and experiences to bear, and offer a guiding light to other women who are ready to create and share their Origin Story. If you need a hand up, let’s have a short Meet & Greet conversation. I’ve enjoyed decades of experiences. Some good, some not so good. I’ve learned that there’s a great blessing to be had in falling down 7 and getting up 8. Maybe not at the time; but in time. Here’s something else I’ve learned: “Many things matter but only one thing matters absolutely: you find peace, not by rearranging the circumstances of your life but by realizing and acting on who you are at your deepest level.” [Eckhart Tolle]Story Prompt: Do yourself a favor and engage in an archeological dig on your life. Ep 101860 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: I Just Know There’s a Pony Down Here Somewhere!

Hello to you listening in Antwerp, Belgium!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Perhaps you’ve heard the old joke about two boys each of whom is brought into a room in the middle of which is a staggeringly high heap of horse manure. The first boy looks at the pile in disgust and says, “What’s the big idea? This is nothing but a pile of horse manure!” But in the other room the second boy is down on his hands and knees gleefully scooping away at the heap saying, “I just know there’s a pony down here somewhere!”We all face unfairness, difficulties, challenges, and worse. And yet these might not be wasted moments if we can see a chance to learn from the misfortunes encompassing our plans, our contradictions, failings, and hopes. I keep thinking of a line from the 2004 novel Gilead by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson, a story about how wisdom was forged and lives on in generations. The narrator is the grandson of a minister who, as a young man in Maine, saw a vision of Christ bound in chains and came west to Kansas to fight for abolition and then, at age fifty, became a chaplain in the Union Army, losing his right eye in battle. Here’s what he said about the trials, turmoils and tribulations of his life: “I am confident I will find great blessing in this.” And that is what he said about everything that happened to him for the rest of his days.Practical Tip: The School of Hard Knocks is not an easy place to get an education but the lessons learned might help us to overcome, perhaps even thrive in what Life throws our way. Guaranteed! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 101760 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: You’ve Always Had Your Origin Story Power, My Dear. Now It’s Time to Use It!

Hello to you listening in Ritzville, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Fact: No one can teach anyone how to be a storyteller; although there are many who claim to be able to do just that. But there are people who can teach you how to teach yourself to be a storyteller. I am one of them. Here’s how I teach you to teach yourself. We start here: you know the story you want to tell, the ideas you want to clarify, the message you want to amplify; all you need is someone to help listen it out of you; to help you find the words you didn’t know you had. Why is this key? Because you’re in charge; you’re empowered; you will use your own words in your own voice to connect human-to-human. Emotional connection doesn’t get any more authentic than that.Over my lifetime I’ve dedicated myself to helping professionals bring their stories to life in the publishing realm, courtrooms, hospitals, board meetings, or the airwaves. My clients’ stories have influenced juries, built markets, spread ideas, and catalyzed change. What’s more, I created my 60 Seconds podcast episode method - a niche the world needs - almost 4 years ago and grew it to over 1,000 global episodes.Benefit & Take-away: What’s the benefit to you? What will you take away? Your origin or personal brand story for marketing, connection, and influence. A heartfelt story artfully told about how you got from There to Here, the challenges you faced, the goals you accomplished, and why the journey matters so that you, your work and ideas are recognized for the value they are! Your story told with clarity and confidence.CTA: Curious? Let’s have a conversation. You can arrange for a free 45-minute Story Start-up Session by tapping the link in the Episode Notes or emailing me at [email protected] or direct message me on LinkedIn. You’ve always had the power, my dear! Now it’s time to tell your origin story. Ep 101660 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Are You a Lark or an Owl?

Hello to you listening in Woodburn, Oregon!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Have you ever wondered why some people hit the gym at 6:00am and others tell you they never go to sleep before midnight and then wake up at noon? Why is it that some people love mornings, while others hate getting out of bed? We’ve only just begun Begin Anew Year 2024 and already some of us are back on the hamster wheel running for our lives. For those of you who’ve never had a hamster for a pet you might not know that they run their wheels - at night - all night - like furry 4-footed Owls.On the other hand you might be familiar with dogs and cats who sit on your belly first thing in the morning - panting in your face - letting you know that it’s time for you to rise and shine because the food bowl is empty - like 4-footed Larks.People are no different. Some of us are Larks. We’re up at the crack of dawn and crashing before the evening news has ended. Some of us are Owls happy to work through the night under the glare of a lamp or a laptop. Some of us flit between the two.Practical Tip: Figure out which you are and which sleep-pattern is better for your body. Ep 101460 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What’s Your Word to Help You Navigate 2024?

Hello to you Rita Ernst Showing Up Positive in Louisville, Kentucky! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane WyzgaMy dad used to say something that always set my teeth on edge: “Diane, ease into the day.” Ease? The eldest daughter of 7 children gets to ease into the day? And who will do all of what needs doing? My dad knew what he was talking about. And fortunately for me I finally stopped to pay attention to him.My word of the year is EASE! I don’t have to prove anything. I can go like a river. Without apology. When I hit the rapids, as this river kayaker knows well, I’ll paddle like heck, navigate, avoid the rocks, seek safe harbor to weather the storm. Along the way I’m attracting Abundance like iron filings to a magnet. Doing my creatively fulfilling Ikigai work. I know that what I’m looking for is looking for me; we’ll meet up soon enough. Dad was right. I can ease into the day. Story Prompt: We are just now easing into Begin Anew Year 2024. Ep 101360 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: How Does Your Origin/Personal Brand Story Help Build Your Business?

Hello to you listening in Seal Beach, California!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. I remember hearing about a woman who sat down at the bar in a pub, placed her order, turned to the person sitting next to her and said, “Hello.” When he turned to her she asked: "What is something you are really satisfied about?" Why does that story stand out in my mind? Because everything in our personal and professional lives rests on our willingness to connect and engage as well as our ability to communicate.Nothing communicates better than your heartfelt story artfully told in your own voice designed to connect, engage and influence your audience. When you have your origin/personal brand story well in hand you can:Declare what you do, how you do it, for whom, and the benefit of your product or service;Give your elevator pitch in a clear, concise, and confident manner;Invite your clients to feel the way you do about your business;Clarify your ideas and amplify your message to the audience who needs to hear it; and Simplify the process so you stand out from the noise. This calls for a Story Guide. Ep 100660 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Why Do I Offer You the Words of Poets?

Hello to you listening in Glossop, Derbyshire, England!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Tuesdays are a respite for me. A chance to contemplate for a moment the beauty of a world that might seem to have turned its back on all things beauty-full. I seek out poetry - some I understand - some I ponder as a wander, as with this poem by Czeslaw Milosz entitled “Love”: Love“Love means to learn to look at yourselfThe way one looks at distant thingsFor you are only one thing among many. And whoever sees that way heals his heart,Without knowing it, from various ills—A bird and a tree say to him: Friend. Then he wants to use himself and thingsSo that they stand in the glow of ripeness. It doesn’t matter whether he knows what he serves:Who serves best doesn’t always understand.” It is no wonder this Nobel Prize-winning poet also wrote these lines:“Not that I want to be a god or a heroJust to change into a tree,Grow for ages, not hurt anyone.” [Czeslaw Milosz] Question: Who are you aspiring to be, to change into? Hello to you listening in Tallinn, Estonia!Check out this short YouTube video to learn basic Estonian for travelers: Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you find yourself from time to time a bit uncertain about how to go forward in the face of challenges that feel insurmountable. What to do? Let’s Reverse the Bucket List, the bucket that’s supposed to be filled with stuff to be done, stuff that we’ve not yet gotten around to doing.A Reverse Bucket List is a List of all you have accomplished, from the littlest things that you felt made a difference to the biggest things you never thought you would achieve. Ask yourself:When were you proud? What did you learn? How did you transform your thinking to invite compassion and kindness?Who showed you the real meaning of true love?Where did you find the faith, endurance, and resilience to face whatever came your way? When were you most content? Or most fulfilled? What would you do all over again just for the joy of it?What did you long for as a child? When did you lift up another? What did you create? Or not destroy?Who did you have affection for and how was it returned? What gave your life definition? What dreams came true? Which were you happy to leave by the wayside? What or whom did you fight for and why? When were you at play? Practical Tip: When you feel a bit lost dip into your Reverse Bucket List to see more clearly all you have done and won and lost and kept on living your Life. It’s your proof that not once, not twice but over and over again you have stepped outside your comfort zone to thrive no matter what came your way because you come from the stars and stars shine even when the night sky is clouded over. I was grateful not to be racing through the HoliDazed airports as I had done for the past 35 years of my life. But just then she read us a story about a woman who was traveling. Ep 100260 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What’s Key to Creating an Effective Origin Story?

Hello to you listening in Lewes, Delaware!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Last week I posted Episode number 997 entitled “Who Here Is (Finally) Ready to Tell Your Origin Story” which prompted my friend and colleague David Marlow, the Ikigai Coach to ask: “What’s key to creating an effective origin story versus simply recounting facts?”Great topic for my upcoming free January NewsAudioLetter! (link to subscribe)Meanwhile, if you're telling just the facts you're missing the emotional story. My expertise is showing my clients how to marry content with context to create a memorable story. The content is the facts. The context is the situation in which the facts took place. What's memorable? As I’ve taught for decades, it’s “a heartfelt story artfully told." It invites your listeners to connect their emotions, memories, and experiences in a profoundly human way to the story being told. Connected listeners are engaged listeners. Engaged listeners can recall and take action on your message.Your origin story is the most consequential one you will tell to connect and engage with your audience. Along the way you will gain confidence, clarity and focus as you learn to decisively use the tools common to every human connection experience. Whether you create it as a marketing, branding, About Page, keynoting, idea-pitching, or memory-making tool, I can help you find the words you didn’t know you had to give voice to your story that’s been waiting to be told: the one that reveals how you got from There to Here. Ep 100160 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: How Does Our Passion Attract Other People?

Hello to you listening in Barrigada Village, Guam!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Interestingly, the word passion finds its root in both the Latin word passiō and the Greek word pathos, which both mean “suffering” suggesting that the things we care most about come from a place of suffering rather than joy.Today, passion means having very strong feelings about or a strong belief in something that moves you to action. Have we lost the notion of suffering? Not really. While the intent of the word has been diluted consider that being passionate is engaging in an intense desire to go toward your dreams. When you are truly passionate, you are motivated such that you are willing to endure pain and suffering to achieve your goals.Passion is what drives us. It helps us build our purpose and goals, our knowledge and capability. When we are deeply passionate our excitement attracts other people, as in this example: “If you catch fire with enthusiasm people will come from miles around to watch you burn. Now THAT’s being passionate!”Question: What goal or dream might have the potential to set you on fire with enthusiasm and passion? Ep 99960 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: As the Year Winds Down What Marks Your Truest Success?

Hello to you listening around the world as 2023 comes to an end!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Today marks Episode 999, the final one for 2023!Thank you and each of you who have sustained me with your generous listening, sharing, shout outs, subscribing, and generally making a ruckus while enjoying “the sorcery of stories.” Together we have helped each other be seen, heard, understood, and listened to. Let’s do it all over again in 2024! “Come for the stories, stay for the magic!” You will have wonderful company as we continue to walk our lives together. As the year winds down I ponder as I wander the old growth forests on my island: what marks my truest success? Who did I lift up, set free from their negative thoughts, invite to join in the circle. When did I take time out for a mindful walk around the lake, pick up the phone and call a friend, or even do something quite silly? When did my decision to set aside my righteous, opinionated, judgmental self make life a bit easier for someone else? And that’s the point, isn’t it? We are spiritual beings living a human existence and trying our best to walk ourselves and each other back home.Story Prompt: As the year winds down what marks your truest success of 2023? Write that story!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 99860 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: What Have I Learned in Another Year’s Worth of Podcasting?

Hello to you listening in Gothenburg, Sweden!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. What have I learned in another year’s worth of podcasting? This much I know: I write for radio. I believe in the music of the spoken word and the power of the human voice to connect. Over the years I’ve been working out the deeper parts of my life story in public to become the best voice of myself I can be. I use my voice to inform, sooth, delight, heal, illuminate, provoke, push back on injustice, and more. Why? Because if I live on a superficial level I live shallow and out of reach of the gold coins in the deep well of my life. My podcast episodes call me to write myself into being a better person. But I don’t do it alone. I rely on the plethora of books I read to fill in the gaps of what I don’t know. Books are the bread of life.Someone said that writers are beggars who tell other beggars where we found bread. When I find or create something that’s meaningful to me I share it with you in the hope that someone will echo back, “What! You, too! I thought I was the only one.” [C.S.Lewis]Question: What have you learned in another year’s worth of the work you offer to the world?Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 761Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: How Might It Feel to Be Seen by Another’s Gesture?

Hello to you listening in Flat Rock Village, North Carolina!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.A year ago I was sitting in traffic at a stop light in Oak Harbor. I remember that on the sidewalk to my right was a man, homeless by appearance, standing in the rain with his shopping cart of belongings. He held a cardboard sign: Please buy me lunch.I rolled down my window to hand him a few bills when I saw a woman get out of her car and walk toward him with a bag of food and beverage cup from the local takeout. As she approached him she smiled and asked: What is your name? She handed him the food and drink and then reached up to hug him.Two things: Anyone can give money; but when she asked him, What is your name? she recognized his humanity. When she reached up to hug him the word that came to mind was .... divine. As in Divinely ordained.Story Prompt: When has someone’s gesture enabled you to be seen? How did it feel? What happened next? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Ep 760Copy of 60 Seconds For Thoughts on Thursday: Who Here Would Like Feeling Less Agitation and More Solid?

Hello to you listening in River Forest, Illinois!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me this time of year catches you unawares. How did it get here so soon? So much to do and so little time left! How will I ever wrap up the year?My teacher Thich Nhat Hanh would point to the trees and say, “When you look at the tree during the storm you can see that the top of the tree is not solid. You can only see the tiny branches and a number of leaves on the top of the tree swaying back and forth under the effect of the wind. You have the impression that the tree is very vulnerable but if you look down to see the big branches and the trunk of the tree you see that the tree is strongly rooted in the ground. The impression that the tree is vulnerable will vanish. You see that the tree is much more solid than it looks at the top. We are like that too.”Practical Tip: When you feel agitated, vulnerable you can practice to get solid again. The stability of your body will help stabilize your mind. Sit quietly and say to yourself: Breathing in I see myself grounded; breathing out I feel solid. Keep repeating until you feel solid, grounded. Because you will. Guaranteed! Ep 749Copy of 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: This I Believe About Stories - Maybe You’d Like to Learn How

Hello to you listening in Spokane, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“I will tell you something about stories, he saidThey aren’t just entertainment.Don’t be fooled. They are all we have, you see,all we have to fight offillness and death.” ~ Leslie Marmon Silko, Haida Ceremony [The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant, p. 145]Haida NationI may be an old fashioned storyteller clinging to the oral tradition, especially when working with your narratives that function as origin stories, creation myths, messages of all kinds to be seen, heard, understood, repeated and followed, as well as cautions for the young and memories for the elders. Why do I insist on the music of the spoken word? Because that’s where the magic happens: at the intersection of the story, the listener, and the teller’s voice with its cadence, tone, inflection, repetition, pacing, and energy. So much gets lost in translation to the printed page. What we yearn for without even knowing it is human connection. My clients learn how to connect with their stories and with themselves to be in better service to their purpose.Question: What would you like to learn about the power of story? When you’re ready I can help. Looking up I could make out two bald eagles hunting over Holmes Harbor. Ep 701Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: How Might Vulnerability and Openness Benefit Leadership?

Hello to you listening in Muscat, Gulf of Oman!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. We’ve seen the movies, we’ve read the books and maybe like me you wonder: what is it about the very best of them that draws us in? I have an answer: the more vulnerable and open the character, the more relatable the character is to us. It takes such courage to be vulnerable and open that we can’t help but draw closer to the heat of the human flame, curious about its nature. Ironic, isn’t it? Decades of training as cold, aloof, unapproachable leaders has rebounded such that leaders are now questing for like-minded souls who see the merit of vulnerability and openness in leadership. “What? You, too? I thought I was the only one.” [C.S. Lewis] Leaders might take a page from C.S. Lewis: “Friendship arises out of mere Companionship when two or more of the companions discover that they have in common some insight or interest or even taste which the others do not share and which, till that moment, each believed to be his own unique treasure (or burden). The typical expression of opening Friendship would be something like, "What? You too? I thought I was the only one." ... It is when two such persons discover one another, when, whether with immense difficulties and semi-articulate fumblings or with what would seem to us amazing and elliptical speed, they share their vision - it is then that Friendship is born. And instantly they stand together in an immense solitude.” [C.S. Lewis]Story Prompt: When has a leader’s honest vulnerability encouraged your own? What happened next? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!
