Ep 100660 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Why Do I Offer You the Words of Poets?

Hello to you listening in Glossop, Derbyshire, England!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Tuesdays are a respite for me. A chance to contemplate for a moment the beauty of a world that might seem to have turned its back on all things beauty-full. I seek out poetry - some I understand - some I ponder as a wander, as with this poem by Czeslaw Milosz entitled “Love”: Love“Love means to learn to look at yourselfThe way one looks at distant thingsFor you are only one thing among many. And whoever sees that way heals his heart,Without knowing it, from various ills—A bird and a tree say to him: Friend. Then he wants to use himself and thingsSo that they stand in the glow of ripeness. It doesn’t matter whether he knows what he serves:Who serves best doesn’t always understand.” It is no wonder this Nobel Prize-winning poet also wrote these lines:“Not that I want to be a god or a heroJust to change into a tree,Grow for ages, not hurt anyone.” [Czeslaw Milosz] Question: Who are you aspiring to be, to change into? Ep 100560 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: What About Reversing Your Bucket List?

Hello to you listening in Tallinn, Estonia!Check out this short YouTube video to learn basic Estonian for travelers: Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you find yourself from time to time a bit uncertain about how to go forward in the face of challenges that feel insurmountable. What to do? Let’s Reverse the Bucket List, the bucket that’s supposed to be filled with stuff to be done, stuff that we’ve not yet gotten around to doing.A Reverse Bucket List is a List of all you have accomplished, from the littlest things that you felt made a difference to the biggest things you never thought you would achieve. Ask yourself:When were you proud? What did you learn? How did you transform your thinking to invite compassion and kindness?Who showed you the real meaning of true love?Where did you find the faith, endurance, and resilience to face whatever came your way? When were you most content? Or most fulfilled? What would you do all over again just for the joy of it?What did you long for as a child? When did you lift up another? What did you create? Or not destroy?Who did you have affection for and how was it returned? What gave your life definition? What dreams came true? Which were you happy to leave by the wayside? What or whom did you fight for and why? When were you at play? Practical Tip: When you feel a bit lost dip into your Reverse Bucket List to see more clearly all you have done and won and lost and kept on living your Life. It’s your proof that not once, not twice but over and over again you have stepped outside your comfort zone to thrive no matter what came your way because you come from the stars and stars shine even when the night sky is clouded over. Guaranteed! Hello to you listening in Giza, Egypt! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.St. Augustine’s in the Woods is a small Episcopal church here on Whidbey Island with a female pastor and the message that all are welcome regardless where they might be on their spiritual journey. It felt like the right place to be on Christmas Eve.Pastor Jennifer’s homily focused on the theme of travel, something each of us could relate to in one way or another. I was grateful not to be racing through the HoliDazed airports as I had done for the past 35 years of my life. But just then she read us a story about a woman who was traveling. Listen as Poet Naomi Shihab Nye tells us what happened at Gate A-4. Ep 100260 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What’s Key to Creating an Effective Origin Story?

Hello to you listening in Lewes, Delaware!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Last week I posted Episode number 997 entitled “Who Here Is (Finally) Ready to Tell Your Origin Story” which prompted my friend and colleague David Marlow, the Ikigai Coach to ask: “What’s key to creating an effective origin story versus simply recounting facts?”Great topic for my upcoming free January NewsAudioLetter! (link to subscribe)Meanwhile, if you're telling just the facts you're missing the emotional story. My expertise is showing my clients how to marry content with context to create a memorable story. The content is the facts. The context is the situation in which the facts took place. What's memorable? As I’ve taught for decades, it’s “a heartfelt story artfully told." It invites your listeners to connect their emotions, memories, and experiences in a profoundly human way to the story being told. Connected listeners are engaged listeners. Engaged listeners can recall and take action on your message.Your origin story is the most consequential one you will tell to connect and engage with your audience. Along the way you will gain confidence, clarity and focus as you learn to decisively use the tools common to every human connection experience. Whether you create it as a marketing, branding, About Page, keynoting, idea-pitching, or memory-making tool, I can help you find the words you didn’t know you had to give voice to your story that’s been waiting to be told: the one that reveals how you got from There to Here. CTA: Email me at [email protected] to learn more. Ep 100160 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: How Does Our Passion Attract Other People?

Hello to you listening in Barrigada Village, Guam!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Interestingly, the word passion finds its root in both the Latin word passiō and the Greek word pathos, which both mean “suffering” suggesting that the things we care most about come from a place of suffering rather than joy.Today, passion means having very strong feelings about or a strong belief in something that moves you to action. Have we lost the notion of suffering? Not really. While the intent of the word has been diluted consider that being passionate is engaging in an intense desire to go toward your dreams. When you are truly passionate, you are motivated such that you are willing to endure pain and suffering to achieve your goals.Passion is what drives us. It helps us build our purpose and goals, our knowledge and capability. When we are deeply passionate our excitement attracts other people, as in this example: “If you catch fire with enthusiasm people will come from miles around to watch you burn. Now THAT’s being passionate!”Question: What goal or dream might have the potential to set you on fire with enthusiasm and passion? Ep 99960 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: As the Year Winds Down What Marks Your Truest Success?

Hello to you listening around the world as 2023 comes to an end!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Today marks Episode 999, the final one for 2023!Thank you and each of you who have sustained me with your generous listening, sharing, shout outs, subscribing, and generally making a ruckus while enjoying “the sorcery of stories.” Together we have helped each other be seen, heard, understood, and listened to. Let’s do it all over again in 2024! “Come for the stories, stay for the magic!” You will have wonderful company as we continue to walk our lives together. As the year winds down I ponder as I wander the old growth forests on my island: what marks my truest success? Who did I lift up, set free from their negative thoughts, invite to join in the circle. When did I take time out for a mindful walk around the lake, pick up the phone and call a friend, or even do something quite silly? When did my decision to set aside my righteous, opinionated, judgmental self make life a bit easier for someone else? And that’s the point, isn’t it? We are spiritual beings living a human existence and trying our best to walk ourselves and each other back home.Story Prompt: As the year winds down what marks your truest success of 2023? Ep 99860 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: What Have I Learned in Another Year’s Worth of Podcasting?

Hello to you listening in Gothenburg, Sweden!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. What have I learned in another year’s worth of podcasting? This much I know: I write for radio. I believe in the music of the spoken word and the power of the human voice to connect. Over the years I’ve been working out the deeper parts of my life story in public to become the best voice of myself I can be. I use my voice to inform, sooth, delight, heal, illuminate, provoke, push back on injustice, and more. Why? Because if I live on a superficial level I live shallow and out of reach of the gold coins in the deep well of my life. My podcast episodes call me to write myself into being a better person. But I don’t do it alone. I rely on the plethora of books I read to fill in the gaps of what I don’t know. Books are the bread of life.Someone said that writers are beggars who tell other beggars where we found bread. When I find or create something that’s meaningful to me I share it with you in the hope that someone will echo back, “What! You, too! I thought I was the only one.” [C.S.Lewis]Question: What have you learned in another year’s worth of the work you offer to the world?Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Nagging at you? Just out of reach? You have something to say. But you can’t find the words. Built markets. Spread ideas. Changed things.Today, I help socially conscious women professionals and entrepreneurs create their origin story with the spirit of who they are. It may be the most consequential story you’ll ever tell; the one that reveals how you got from There to Here. If you can feel the story in you, that’s enough to get started. Ep 761Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: How Might It Feel to Be Seen by Another’s Gesture?

Hello to you listening in Flat Rock Village, North Carolina!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.A year ago I was sitting in traffic at a stop light in Oak Harbor. I remember that on the sidewalk to my right was a man, homeless by appearance, standing in the rain with his shopping cart of belongings. He held a cardboard sign: Please buy me lunch.I rolled down my window to hand him a few bills when I saw a woman get out of her car and walk toward him with a bag of food and beverage cup from the local takeout. As she approached him she smiled and asked: What is your name? She handed him the food and drink and then reached up to hug him.Two things: Anyone can give money; but when she asked him, What is your name? she recognized his humanity. When she reached up to hug him the word that came to mind was .... divine. As in Divinely ordained.Story Prompt: When has someone’s gesture enabled you to be seen? How did it feel? What happened next? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Ep 760Copy of 60 Seconds For Thoughts on Thursday: Who Here Would Like Feeling Less Agitation and More Solid?

Hello to you listening in River Forest, Illinois!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me this time of year catches you unawares. How did it get here so soon? So much to do and so little time left! How will I ever wrap up the year?My teacher Thich Nhat Hanh would point to the trees and say, “When you look at the tree during the storm you can see that the top of the tree is not solid. You can only see the tiny branches and a number of leaves on the top of the tree swaying back and forth under the effect of the wind. You have the impression that the tree is very vulnerable but if you look down to see the big branches and the trunk of the tree you see that the tree is strongly rooted in the ground. The impression that the tree is vulnerable will vanish. You see that the tree is much more solid than it looks at the top. We are like that too.”Practical Tip: When you feel agitated, vulnerable you can practice to get solid again. The stability of your body will help stabilize your mind. Sit quietly and say to yourself: Breathing in I see myself grounded; breathing out I feel solid. Keep repeating until you feel solid, grounded. Because you will. Guaranteed! Ep 749Copy of 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: This I Believe About Stories - Maybe You’d Like to Learn How

Hello to you listening in Spokane, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“I will tell you something about stories, he saidThey aren’t just entertainment.Don’t be fooled. They are all we have, you see,all we have to fight offillness and death.” ~ Leslie Marmon Silko, Haida Ceremony [The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant, p. 145]Haida NationI may be an old fashioned storyteller clinging to the oral tradition, especially when working with your narratives that function as origin stories, creation myths, messages of all kinds to be seen, heard, understood, repeated and followed, as well as cautions for the young and memories for the elders. Why do I insist on the music of the spoken word? Because that’s where the magic happens: at the intersection of the story, the listener, and the teller’s voice with its cadence, tone, inflection, repetition, pacing, and energy. So much gets lost in translation to the printed page. What we yearn for without even knowing it is human connection. My clients learn how to connect with their stories and with themselves to be in better service to their purpose.Question: What would you like to learn about the power of story? When you’re ready I can help. Hello to you listening in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Walking home from a trip to the library and post office the other day in the damp chill that has settled on Whidbey Island I heard them before I saw them. Looking up I could make out two bald eagles hunting over Holmes Harbor. Like a child I held steady in silent witness and thought of this from Kenneth Grahame: “All this he saw, for one moment breathless and intense, vivid on the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wondered.” ~ Kenneth GrahameIf you are curious and would like to learn more about the bald eagle, click HERE to watch 11 minutes on the Nature Here TV show featuring bald eagles wintering in Oregon and Washington.Question: What has prompted you to be still, live breathless and wonder? You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Ep 701Copy of 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: How Might Vulnerability and Openness Benefit Leadership?

Hello to you listening in Muscat, Gulf of Oman!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. We’ve seen the movies, we’ve read the books and maybe like me you wonder: what is it about the very best of them that draws us in? I have an answer: the more vulnerable and open the character, the more relatable the character is to us. It takes such courage to be vulnerable and open that we can’t help but draw closer to the heat of the human flame, curious about its nature. Ironic, isn’t it? Decades of training as cold, aloof, unapproachable leaders has rebounded such that leaders are now questing for like-minded souls who see the merit of vulnerability and openness in leadership. “What? You, too? I thought I was the only one.” [C.S. Lewis] Leaders might take a page from C.S. Lewis: “Friendship arises out of mere Companionship when two or more of the companions discover that they have in common some insight or interest or even taste which the others do not share and which, till that moment, each believed to be his own unique treasure (or burden). The typical expression of opening Friendship would be something like, "What? You too? I thought I was the only one." ... It is when two such persons discover one another, when, whether with immense difficulties and semi-articulate fumblings or with what would seem to us amazing and elliptical speed, they share their vision - it is then that Friendship is born. And instantly they stand together in an immense solitude.” [C.S. Lewis]Story Prompt: When has a leader’s honest vulnerability encouraged your own? What happened next? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are.We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are.We do not become writers.. dancers.. musicians.. helpers.. peacemakers. We came as such. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are.We do not learn to love in this sense. We came as Love.We are Love. Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are."- A Simple Prayer for Remembering the Motherlode by Clarissa Pinkola Estes from The Contemplari manuscript ©200Question: What are you discovering about your true purpose? Ep 98960 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: What Our Animal Companions Teach Us About Life, Love & Loss

Hello to you listening in Kampala, Uganda!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. You might notice that I’ll be dipping into the podcast archives to give you something to listen to this week. Why? Because on Friday the 1st of December I had to keep a promise to Gus the Good. Gus was the last of my 4 kitties, 3 of whom came with me to Whidbey Island and have gone on ahead over the Rainbow Bridge.Gus was a senior fellow. Been with me some 17 years or so since I brought him home from the no-kill pet shelter along with his sister, Kayak. Someone had dumped the litter in a bin outside a convenience store. He’s weathered many changes: losing his mates, moving from household to household, now age and kidney disease. The thing about Gus is that he took it all in stride. He asked for what he wanted when he wanted it. He snoozed in the sun of an afternoon. The morning was not complete until he got his brushing. I can tell you I’ve curried horses in less time! He figured out how to claim his spot on the bed and the pillow so I had to adjust to him. No matter my mood or attitude he was ready to hand out his personal brand of affection: face licking.I think the most common thought shared by all of us who have had to make the decision when to let our animal companions go to their final sleep is: I did it too soon or I did it too late. I hear you. My promise to Gus was that I’d walk him to the Rainbow Bridge a little early so that he would not have to suffer. Did I make the right choice? Here’s what our compassionate Whidbey Island house calls vet said: “Better to go on a good day than a bad day.” It was a good day for keeping promises. So I hope you understand if right now I don’t have what it takes to create a week’s worth of new episodes.Question: What have your animal companions taught you about life, love and loss? Ep 98860 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Are You Going Through?

Hello, to you listening in Canovanas, Puerto Rico!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I came across something the author Simone Weil wrote. “The love of our neighbor in all its fullness means being able to say to her, ‘What are you going through?’” I wondered what would happen if I took a risk to ask that question. What did I have to lose? As my dear storytelling Canadian friend Michelle would say: “If you don’t go you won’t know so give it a go!”I did. In turn, I received a story of intrigue, despair, resilience, change, courage, and resolution. I don’t know if I was able to help my friend with my question; but I can’t say that I didn’t help her.Story Prompt: There is something about this question that goes so far beyond: How ya doin’? Give it a go; maybe begin with your own good self, “What are you going through?", listen to what’s being shared, and then Write That Story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out What I Offer,✓ Arrange your free Story Start-up Session,✓ Opt In to my monthly NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 98760 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: Don’t You Want to Know What Happens Next?

Hello to you listening in Moelv, Norway!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The Witch of Whidbey is a voracious reader. So many books, so little time. Here’s one summary of a recently read novel: On Memorial Day 1958 in small town Jewel, Minnesota, the body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. The investigation falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service. The summary is innocuous enough; but what will make The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger a spell-binding page-turner? It’s the Set-up! Page 1: There's a river; it's in Minnesota; it starts here; flows this way and that; people swim and fish in the river; the river has many fish such as this one and that one; and the channel catfish, bottom-dwelling, mud-sucking, ugly, voracious. Last line: “And this is the story about how the channel cats ate Jimmy Quinn.”Don't you want to know .... what happens next?A story is how "what happens next" affects someone who is trying to achieve what turns out to be a difficult goal, and how she changes as a result.Question: Which books and opening lines do you remember because you wanted to know, what happens next? How do your choices reveal aspects of your own story? Ep 98660 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: NewsAudioLetter Announcement! What Is the Most Consequential Story You Can Tell?

Hello to you listening in Kelowna, BC, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga inviting you to subscribe to my Quarter Moon Story Arts Monthly NewsAudioLetter where you will join a growing movement of people who are shaping storytelling to shift attitudes, behaviors, even cultures. Previously, in the October 2023 issue of the Quarter Moon Story Arts NewsAudioLetter we explored the transformative power of storytelling to enliven and empower listeners to action by creating shared emotional experiences. The listener enters into and becomes the story so she can reckon with life encounters by identifying with the plot or characters without actually experiencing the consequences. In the November edition I delve into the concept of origin stories, highlighting their role as the foundation of professional and personal identities carved from pivotal life moments and overcoming challenges. I encourage you to embark on an "archaeological dig" to discover your genuine storytelling voice, acknowledging that this process is not for the faint-hearted. But, the benefits of crafting an engaging origin story include self-discovery and identity, effective communication, brand development, leadership impact, and the ability to present oneself, one's work, one’s narrative in a compelling manner. To help you get closer to creating your origin story, I’ve provided two practical exercises. The first involves exploring character traits through a partner's prompts, while the second encourages recalling and dealing with pivotal life moments using your bonus gift, the Story Spine framework .As my clients have learned, your origin story is the most consequential story of your life. Why? It tells the story of how you got from there to here. Your story in your voice will connect with, engage and influence your audience to action while also transforming the lives of those you serve. Nothing else has that power!CTA: Let's dive into your Origin Story: covering everything from what it is to the challenges to the gains. Hello to you listening in Perry County, Pennsylvania!Coming to you from Whidbey Island Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday, and your host Diane Wyzga. Imagine yourself talking with a very good friend and telling them a story about something that happened in your day. Imagine them listening with energy and delight. It helps you and your story to bloom, right? Your creative energy flows. Now, imagine yourself telling the same story to someone who really can’t be bothered to take the time or be interested in you or what you have to share. When we feel unsafe, judged or misunderstood our creative energy stops.Sometimes we end up standing in our own way by coming up against our fears that we have nothing worthwhile to say, to produce, to express. Our creativity stops. Practical Tip: When you come up against fearful feelings blocking your creativity imagine yourself back with your delighted friend. Visualize yourself basking in the warm glow of their delight, support, encouragement. Ep 97460 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: Are Origin and Brand Stories One and the Same?

Hello to you listening in Fredricton, New Brunswick, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Question: Are origin and brand stories one and the same? Not at all. While origin stories and brand stories share similarities, they serve distinct purposes in the realm of storytelling and branding.Origin Story: An origin story typically focuses on how your work began, your journey, and the foundational moments that define professional or organizational identity. You’ve heard me talk about the "archeological dig" to get to your origin story. It’s your Who. It precedes your Why. Origin stories often highlight the challenges you’ve overcome, your values, and the mission or purpose that drives your work. This is the most consequential story you’ll ever create because it tells how you got from there to here, bringing your particular vision into existence.Brand Story: On the other hand, a brand story encompasses a broader narrative that builds on the foundational origin story. Its role is to show the ongoing evolution, present-day identity, and how the values, mission, and personality of the brand are incorporated in the process. It’s your Why. This overall narrative shapes how the brand is perceived and how it connects with your audience.Question: Now that you know the difference between the stories that are key to building your identity and connecting with your audience, what motivates you to create and tell them? What’s your project? How can I help? Ep 97360 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Is a Story & Why Should We Care?

Hello to you listening in Glendora, California!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. What is a story? In its most basic form: “That was - Something happened - This is." Here’s more: "A story is content plus context." Our human brains crave meaning. Without context you are left with a list of unrelated facts. Our human brains also create meaning. As a result, widely held but false narratives can become firmly embedded in people’s need to believe things. Why should we care? Unless we are very clear about the stories we tell we might end up imprisoned by irresponsible narratives based on inaccurate memories. As we look around the world we are witness to “arsenals of memories.”I cannot say whose memories are accurate or not. All I can do is sift through the clues of my life, how I live, what I value, or what my experiences, hardships and achievements have taught me. I have to look closely at the archeological remains of my life to begin to comprehend my story with compassion, insight and humor. Is it true? Or, do I owe my story another look? Am I curious about the accuracy of the narrative that I have been telling and the one that I could be telling?Story Prompt: What might it take for you to leave behind the habitual parroting of boring story lines to delve deep into the emotions, sensory images, and experiences of your story with compassion, insight and humor? Write that story!
