Ep 105160 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: TIP => How to Get From Breakdown to Breakthrough
Hello to you listening in Aukland, New Zealand!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. There is a gift in hindsight!Hindsight can show us how a breakdown becomes a breakthrough, a spiritual crisis becomes a spiritual awakening, a trail of tears becomes the trail of gratitude. It has to be hindsight because when we’re swamped by difficult situations we feel scared, uncertain, anxious, or worse. Then time passes. Now, we can look at the gift in what we perceived as complete and utter failure to create a new life, share our ideas, grow our business, and so on.What we perceived as failure becomes the opportunity we could not appreciate when we were feeling like a loser.Time and hindsight become growth.Story Prompt: Think about a time when it looked like you had failed miserably, but with time and hindsight you grasped the opportunity for a do-over. What happened then? Write that story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-obligation Discovery Call to learn more,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 70960 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: Why Are You Chasing Clients Instead of Signaling Them?
Hello to you listening in Port Townsend, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Admiralty Head Lighthouse harkens back to the day of sailing ships powered by wind. When the ships entered the Strait of San Juan de Fuca from the Pacific Ocean the ship captain would know to steer a hard right to starboard when he saw the blazing beacon from the Lighthouse high on a bluff 127 feet above Admiralty Inlet before continuing safely south to Puget Sound and on into Seattle. Each lighthouse - no matter where in the world - has its very own distinctive light pattern, or signature. Lighthouses mark points of navigation, warn about dangerous coastlines, and guide ships into a safe harbor. But not all harbors are created equal for all boats. Some are for deep draft vessels, others for pleasure craft, and so on. Here’s the thing about a lighthouse: it doesn’t run up and down the coast beckoning all boats to its harbor. It serves a specifically sized boat.Question: Lighthouses don’t chase boats; why do you chase clients? What is it only you have to offer? Who needs it and wants it? How will you attract your particular client with your very own distinctive beacon of light? And, how will they know you are signaling them?Call to Action: If this episode resonates with you and you’re looking for someone to help navigate you and your message, contact me on LinkedIn or Quarter Moon Story Arts for a no-sales complimentary consult. Ep 78760 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: What If You Had Nothing to Do But Walk?
Hello to you listening in Billericay, Essex, England! And a short YouTube Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Folks ask me: What was the most difficult lesson on my Camino de Santiago pilgrimage? Letting go. Letting go of the way I was. Letting go of my old self. Giving myself over to the walking. You think it’s easy? Get up in the dark, pack in the dark, head out in the dark. Walk 15 or 20 miles a day, no matter how hot or cold or wet. No matter how rocky or lonesome or tired. Nothing prepares you for walking Camino but to walk Camino. How do you do it? Here’s a tip: surrender. Give yourself over. You are here now. Make the most of it. When you want to stomp around and make furious gestures, make the most of that. Make the most of your joys and complaints. Give voice to them all.And then give yourself back to the only job you have: to walk. Every day my Camino lesson shows up like this: “Just walk it off, Diane!”Question: What single-minded purpose of yours guides you along your way? You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Ep 106760 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: Give Yourself Permission to Tell the Hardship Story
Hello to you listening in Lucknow, India!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga./“Story is a way to resurrect our humanity so that we can engage and connect with others and transform the lives of those we serve.” [Diane Wyzga]We are all “living stories.” The best stories usually arise from the pivotal moments of our lives. Why? People face hardships. Our hardships show us the way to recovery. When we tell our stories - when we give ourselves permission to express that wounded, vulnerable, authentic side - those who hear our story can say, “What! You, too? I thought I was the only one.” [C.S. Lewis] And now that I know I’m not alone I, too, can summon the courage to get myself from Here to There.Story Prompt: When have you given yourself permission to tell yourself about how you overcame hardship? What happened next? Write that story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe and spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment - it helps us all - and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ For a no-obligation conversation about your story questions, don’t delay - get in touch today,✓ Opt In to my Every Now & Again NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn and as "Wyzga on Words" on Substack.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 106660 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: Your Voice Was Made to Be Heard
Hello to you listening in Hackney, London, UK!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you grew up at a time when children were supposed to be seen and not heard. I ask you! What child doesn’t want to be heard? And yet society worked hard to quiet our voices. In time I was able to say, "Hey! Nobody asked me about being quiet. I want to be seen, heard, understood and listened to!" I had to work at saying what I mean and meaning what I say. It’s not just words. No two voices are alike. Each voice has a singular tone, an energetic imprint that’s all its own. Our voices have the power to heal, to hurt, to love, and to transform others. When we are aware of the impact our voices can have, we can consciously choose what we are expressing, and how we are making ourselves heard. It’s your voice. It was made to be heard. When we take responsibility for the power our voice has to shift attitudes and behaviors, unbalance the status quo, and create harmony and compassion in the universe, that’s the place where we become seen and heard.Question: How do you plan to become seen and heard today? Yes, for some of us it can be a long way to find out who we’ve always been and then to become that. Ep 106360 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What Is it About a Walk in the Woods and Belonging?
Hello to you listening in Muhos, Finland!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. We’ve had days of continuous rain; but I’ve discovered an antidote to cabin fever: walking the deep woods on my island. In the forest I’m reminded of the reciprocity of the universe - the give and take between us and the highest of powers. In her book Native: Identity, Belonging, and Rediscovering God Kaitlin B. Curtice asks: “What is it about a walk in the woods to remind us about the reciprocity of the universe? What do I mean? The bloodline of God is connected to everything . . . shells on the ocean shore, the mushrooms growing in the forest, the trees stretching to the clouds, the tiniest speck of snow in the winter, and our dust-to-dustness—we are all connected and tethered to this sacred gift of creation.” [Kaitlin B. Curtice, Native: Identity, Belonging, and Rediscovering God]Question: How does it feel when you are deeply connected, when you know that where you are is where you belong? You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you please subscribe, spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment - it helps us all - and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales, Complimentary Coaching Consult,✓ Opt In to my Every Now and Again NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work , and✓ Stay current with Diane on Substack (Wyzga on Words) and on LinkedIn Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 88260 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Will You Know the Stranger Who Was Yourself?
Hello to you listening in Flushing, Borough of Queens, New York!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you stop and wonder who you are, where is the girl (or fellow) who used to be you, whether you’re on the right track, and so on. It feels insecure, doesn’t it, not to have all the answers sometimes. Perhaps there is great wisdom in resting in that insecurity, stop resisting, stop pushing back, wait for the time (and the answer) that will come. The poet, Derek Walcott might have been musing on these questions when he wrote Love After Love. He might have known his words would bring comfort, hope, anticipation, maybe even optimism. That’s what poets do. Love After Love“The time will comewhen, with elationyou will greet yourself arrivingat your own door, in your own mirrorand each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat.You will love again the stranger who was your self.Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heartto itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignoredfor another, who knows you by heart.Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror.Sit. Feast on your life.” [- by Derek Walcott] You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales, Complimentary Coaching Consult,✓ Opt In to my Every Now & Again NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on Substack and LinkedInStories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 87660 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What's a Story From When You Were Too Young to Remember Remember?
Hello to you listening in Cologne, Germany!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. My baby brother, Paul, is a well-married, well-established adult whom I love dearly. It seems like only yesterday the family of 9 was camping in New Hampshire. One morning the parents parked the family station wagon in a grocery store lot taking Paul with them seated in the grocery cart. Time passed. They returned with the groceries, stowed them in the station wagon, got back in and drove away leaving Paul in the shopping cart in the parking lot. Of course us kids thought this was hilarious and we waved goodbye out the windows.Time passed. Mom looked around asking: where’s Paul? We could barely speak for laughing. One brave soul pointed back in the direction we came. Ever see a station wagon pull a 180 at high speed on a country road? There he was just where the parents left him, calmly looking around at whatever was there. Paul’s sense of serenity has stayed with him over the decades. As has his story. Story Prompt: Once upon a time you were too young to remember; but, there are parents, siblings, maybe family friends who are all too eager to share a story or three about what happened to you when you were too young to remember. Reach out to them and discover it. What is that story? Who shared it with you? What did it feel like to hear it? Remember to “Write that story!” and say: “Thanks for the memories.” You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales, Complimentary Coaching Consult,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn and SUBSTACKStories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 106060 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: My Clients Stand & Deliver Their Messages Because It Works!
Hello to you listening in Pender Island, BC, Canada!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. To this very day my clients from classrooms to courtrooms can repeat my opening lines about presentations:“Put down the paper and nobody gets hurt.”“It’s a privilege to stand and deliver your work with your words in your voice; so use it!”The human voice is the most powerful instrument we have to heal, inspire, unify, and entertain. A “heartfelt story artfully told” breaks down barriers, invites community, solves problems, and influences decisions. I believe that our audiences are hungry to receive the gift of our spoken words. As a speaker you will hear right away when a written turn of phrase fails, when you lack a bridge from one thought to the next, or when your story begins to unravel like an old sweater because it lacks integrity; it does not hang together from beginning to end.I have produced almost 1,100 podcast episodes. Hello to you listening in Edmond, Oklahoma!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds of Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you practice paying attention to signs, symbols, people, and opportunities that show us the way, help us make a decision, provide what we need just when we need it. The Universe has unlimited ways to get our attention, wake us up, and help guide us on the path. It’s a good reminder that we do not go it alone. The other day I reconnected with Donna Cravotta, friend, colleague and the brilliance behind Cravotta Media Group and Real 50 Over 50 Visibility Project. We arranged for a 20-minute Meet & Greet that became a richly rewarding 90-minute heart-to-heart dialogue.Along the way I learned about a daily practice that Donna has taught others: You don’t go to bed until you can name something you learned and someone you helped.Story Prompt: What daily practice of yours keeps you going? Ep 101760 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: You’ve Always Had Your Origin Story Power, My Dear. Now It’s Time to Use It!
Hello to you listening in Ritzville, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.Fact: No one can teach anyone how to be a storyteller; although there are many who claim to be able to do just that. But there are people who can teach you how to teach yourself to be a storyteller. I am one of them. Here’s how I teach you to teach yourself. We start here: you know the story you want to tell, the ideas you want to clarify, the message you want to amplify; all you need is someone to help listen it out of you; to help you find the words you didn’t know you had. Why is this key? Because you’re in charge; you’re empowered; you will use your own words in your own voice to connect human-to-human. Emotional connection doesn’t get any more authentic than that.Over my lifetime I’ve dedicated myself to helping professionals bring their stories to life in the publishing realm, courtrooms, hospitals, board meetings, or the airwaves. My clients’ stories have influenced juries, built markets, spread ideas, and catalyzed change. What’s more, I created my 60 Seconds podcast episode method - a niche the world needs - almost 4 years ago and grew it to over 1,000 global episodes.Benefit & Take-away: What’s the benefit to you? What will you take away? Your origin or personal brand story for marketing, connection, and influence. A heartfelt story artfully told about how you got from There to Here, the challenges you faced, the goals you accomplished, and why the journey matters so that you, your work and ideas are recognized for the value they are! Your story told with clarity and confidence.CTA: Curious? Let’s have a conversation. You can arrange for your no-sales complimentary Discovery Coaching Session by tapping the link in the Episode Notes OR e-mailing me at [email protected] OR direct message me on LinkedIn. You’ve always had the power, my dear! Now it’s time to tell your origin story. Ep 80860 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: TIP: When You’re Stuck Move & Draw Your Way Out
Hello to you listening in Pamplona, Spain!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I was asked the other day what do I do when I’m stuck? When the client work isn’t as robust as I’d like? When the podcast episodes don’t seem to flow from a place of creativity but feel bogged down in muck. You know what I mean. We’ve all been there. I have an idea to share and I bet you have some, too. Research has shown that movement, not language, is the foundation of thought. [Mind in Motion: How Action Shapes Thought by Barbara Taversky] Action shapes thought. There’s a lot of neuroscience I don’t understand about how it works; but I can say this: while I don’t know how it works I do know that it works. Motion is the lotion for our thoughts. Maybe we’re a species of movers and shakers first. Think about it! We were cave drawing before we began talking in words. When you get to that place where you feel stuck in the mucky middle of a project, idea, book chapter, whatever. Get up and move. Draw your stuckness. Stick figures are fine. Symbols are great. It’s not about the art; it’s about the motion that creates the thought you want to have. Try big sidewalk chalks on a concrete driveway or magic markers on a big easel pad. I like the big Post It easel pads. I can draw on a page, rip it off the pad, stick it to the wall and after I have a few I step back to look at the problem. The answer is often staring me right in the face.Question: What also works for you when you are stuck in the mucky middle? You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer✓ Arrange your no-sales, complimentary Coaching Session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 79060 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: TIP: What to Do When You Don’t Have Work to Do
Hello to you listening in Jablonne nad Orlici, Czech Republic! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you have spaces in the year when you are not overly busy. In fact, you might be underly busy. Perhaps your reaction is to scramble to be productive. But productivity is not always related to action. What if there’s another valuable way to use the underly busy times? Amos Tversky, an expert of decision making, wrote, “The secret to doing good research is always to be a little underemployed. You waste years by not being able to waste hours.” [Amos Tversky — An Amazing Man]Practical Tip: Think about this for a moment. What’s the rush? There is time to devote to day dreaming or staring out the window while giving our wonderfully creative imaginations time to breathe, show up, solve a problem. Question: What would be so wrong about giving ourselves permission to be a little underly busy? How might that notion play out in your world? You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales complimentary coaching session,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 84860 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: A Technique for Calm & Steady Peace of Mind
Hello to you listening in Bordeaux, France!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you find yourself stuck in a line at the post office, the grocery story, the ferry terminal, or just everyday traffic red lights as far as the eye can see. You feel yourself growing increasingly impatient, chest clenches, heart rate ticks up, shoulders squeeze, lips tighten. No peace of mind to be had.Practical Tip: You are not only the master of your fate - you are also the master of your mind. All it takes is a little practice. Try this: Breathe in slowly and mindfully saying to yourself, “This is my in-breath. I know I’m breathing in.” Pause for a moment and breathe out slowly and mindfully saying to yourself, “This is my out-breath. Ep 87160 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Is the Joy You’re Taking in the Making?
Hello to you listening in Perth, Australia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Recently I read a blog post by my friend and colleague Leanne Gordon. Leanne's Drip by Drop blog posts are designed to be “A daily dose of thinking helping you to make change happen in your work and life.” Joy In The Making caught my ear. In brief the idea is that we often arrive at the end of something and wonder why it took us so long to get there. Or, we listen to others who chide us for taking so long. I remember a galpal who moved away a few years before I did. She said, “When you finally move you’ll wonder what took you so long.” Not!What we’re forgetting here is the process of our productivity. Making the journey gets us to the destination. As Leanne writes: “The meaning and joy is in the making.”Story Prompt: I imagine you are making something. What is the joy you are taking in the making? Write that story! You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 84560 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: How Would It Feel to Say No!
Hello to you listening in Llanrhystud, Wales UK! Click HERE for more on Llanrhystud, Wales Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Here’s a scary thought: Saying No to someone when we're used to saying Yes. What are you afraid of?Many of us, especially girls, are taught that saying Yes is right, good, proper, helpful even and saying No is just plain wrong. The problem is the more we say Yes when we mean No we forget how to make choices in our own best interest and well-being. This self-sabotage robs us of our ability to choose wisely, of our personal power, of our legitimate right to say No with clarity, confidence, and conviction.Of course, there’s nothing wrong with agreeing to a request from certain people in our lives so long as we are not limited in our options, feeling compelled, thinking we will be rejected or worse. It takes practice to practice No. What do you get? What do you want? Name it! Claim it! Practical Tip: A simple response to a request to take on work or favors you want to decline is to say, “No. It’s good work; but it’s not my work.”Question: How does it feel to value and appreciate your own good self saying what you mean and meaning what you say? Ep 84360 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: When Will You Be Ready to Leave Your Small River?
Hello to you listening in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England!Click HERE for more on Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The salmon are running here. The ones that left our estuaries as small fry, headed out into the Pacific Ocean and return home a few years later as fully grown adults to spawn, their wild adventure at an end. Like the salmon there have been moments in my life when I risked it all, on a dream, a vision, a hope. My risk-taking ways have rewarded me with chances I could not have taken from the comfort of an armchair. But of late I find myself feeling rusty, maybe drifting in the current, anxious to feel alive in the old way. I know what calls me. David Whyte’s (our Whidbey Island, Washington poet laureate) poem A Song For the Salmon, gives voice to that deepest longing, to be gone again on a great journey. Perhaps it will call to you... A Song For the Salmon“For too many days now I have not written of the sea,nor the rivers, nor the shifting currentswe find between the islands. For too many nights now I have not imagined the salmonthreading the dark streams of reflected stars, nor have I dreamt of his longingnor the lithe swing of his tail toward dawn I have not given myself to the depth to which he goes,to the cargoes of crystal water, cold with salt, nor the enormous plains of ocean swaying beneath the moon. I have not felt the lifted arms of the oceanopening its white hands on the seashore, nor the salted wind, whole and healthyfilling the chest with living air. I have not heard those wavesfallen out of heaven onto earth, nor the tumult of sound and the satisfactionof a thousand miles of oceangiving up its strength on the sand. But now I have spoken of that great sea,the ocean of longing shifts through me,the blessed inner star of navigationmoves in the dark sky aboveand I am ready like the young salmonto leave his river, blessed with hungerfor a great journey on the drawing tide.” [by David Whyte ] You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Ep 84260 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: How Can You Not Afford a Lazy Monday?
Hello to you listening in Vigo, Galicia, Spain!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Society does not approve of laziness. Imagine what society would say about establishing a Lazy Monday! My teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, encouraged us to take a Lazy Monday. What’s the point? “A lazy day is a chance to train ourselves not to be afraid of doing nothing. You might think that not doing anything is a waste of time. But that’s not true. Your time is first of all for you to be - to be alive, to be at peace. The world needs joyous and loving people who are capable of just being. People sometimes say ‘Don’t just sit there, do something’. But we have to reverse that statement to say ‘Don’t do something, just sit there’ in order to be in such a way that peace, understanding, and compassion are possible.”Question: You absolutely can afford a Lazy Monday! What’s it worth to you to give it a go?Click here to learn more about Lazy Monday:You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your free no-sales Discovery Chat to learn more: ,✓ Opt In to my NewsAudioLetter for bonus gift, valuable tips & techniques to enhance your story work, and✓ Stay current with Diane on LinkedIn.Stories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer’s Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Hello to you listening in Belgaum, Karnataka, India!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. There is so much noise about the many ways available to us to open a new door, more doors, better doors to your life, your business, your heart, your relations... it’s exhausting! Do we need all those doors? Might there be another way? Yes.Perhaps you’re familiar with the Brazilian novelist Paolo Coelho de Souza who wrote the best seller The Alchemist, as well as The Pilgrimage about his road of self-discovery on the Camino de Santiago. When I read what he had to say about doors I paid attention. "Close some doors today. Not because of pride, incapacity, or arrogance, but simply because they lead you nowhere. Close some doors today. Ep 81660 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Could an Expert in Porcelain Repair Teach About Living Whole Again?
Hello to you listening in Alexandria, Egypt!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Time out of mind my used-to-be-husband left me for Wife Number 4. By and by I learned to let go of my suffering. My teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh said that we suffer when we grasp something and hold tight to it, instead of letting it go when it was time. The awareness that all is impermanent doesn't come easily; but it does come and then you can step into the fullness of your life. I remember attending a workshop for us poor divorced souls who were curious about how to piece together the remnants of our shattered lives. The speaker was a middle-aged divorced woman who repaired broken porcelain collectibles with one of two methods. The first was called a glue-up. Get the bits and glue them back together. It’s serviceable enough. The other more time-consuming and expensive method involved painstakingly detailed and careful work: sanding the rough edges of all the bits, carefully piecing each bit together, affixing the bits with a special glue so the joinder line didn’t show, and painting the piece to restore it to whole. Her advice to us was while we could get away with our lives being a glue-up, in her experience it was much better to do the painstaking work to live whole again.Story Prompt: When you took the time and put in the effort to restore something to wholeness in your life what was the result for you? Write that story! Ep 105060 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: 3 TIPS to Improve Your Communication Confidence
Hello to you listening in Yamaguchi City, Japan!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I’ve produced over 1,000 daily podcast episodes on the global airwaves. Each episode is typically between 60 and 180 seconds. In mere minutes I share a story, a message, and a call to action. Why does brevity matter? Attention spans are dangerously short. More importantly communicating information in a clear, concise and cogent manner gets you seen, heard, understood and listened to. At the same time you develop your communication confidence.3 Tips to Improve Your Communication Confidence:1. Do you stumble over your words in a meeting or presentation? Before you speak think about the key points you want to make. Jot down a roadmap with bullet points. Once you start speaking you’ll be anchored and directed. Make your points and end with a strong conclusion.2. Do you over-explain because you’re unsure whether your audience is with you? If you feel you’re not getting your point across take the pulse of the room every now and again by asking a short question: Are you with me? What are you hearing? Does this make sense? Gauge the reaction before you continue speaking. You may need to backtrack or take a question.3. Do you feel like you use too many filler words? The meaningless ums, uhs, likes, and ya knows that suck the oxygen out of the room. Filler words can detract from our assertiveness. But at times we can use the word ‘like’ to create connection with our audience. People communicate in metaphors: this is like that is. Know your words. Choose your words. When in doubt, take a breath. Bonus tip: Every day for 3 minutes practice speaking out loud. Record and listen to yourself. Pay attention to what sounds good and what could sound better. Once you raise awareness about what you do well and what to do better you will do it.CTA: I’m ready to help you grow into a confident communicator who can clarify ideas and amplify messages. Ep 104960 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: TIP => Trying to Make Yourself Heard Begins With Knowing Who You Are
Hello to you listening in Bow-Edison, Skagit County, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“Being underestimated because of gender (or any other reason) is an advantage when you’re a spy on the street trying to move around unobserved. Being underestimated is a problem for everybody when you are a woman in a national security community trying to make yourself heard about something important you have discovered.” [The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA by Liza Mundy] Reading those words from The Sisterhood - The Secret History of Women at the CIA reminded me of all the ways in which women feel underestimated, personally as well as professionally. How do we correct that? It starts with unlocking the power of clarity and intentionality that is Your Who.We each have a particular story at the core of our lives: our Origin Story. Our Origin Story reveals how we got from There to Here. When we own our Origin Story we stand in courage and confidence. How so? By trusting the hardships we’ve faced and achievements we’ve won we connect with our self-worth, what we stand for, what we won’t stand for, what we no longer fear. We have something to say because we discovered WHO we are. This gives us the power to be heard and listened to.CTA: If you’re curious about how to make yourself heard by creating Your Who, email me ([email protected]) OR tap the Link in the Episode Notes to schedule a no-obligation Discovery Chat.
