One who has a need to be better than others logically needs to impress others, craves reassurance from the group, and lacks a sense of peace with what is. I am not suggesting that we stop working towards personal growth but we do so realising that we are one of many precious amazing beings on this planet including animals and plant life- Every life counts and every life has credence. It is a very humility which gives us worth as humility comes hand in hand with gratitude, compassion and an open heart. Imagine for a moment that you are looking down upon the planet and you are floating higher and higher and higher in the air. We look down upon our world and we gain perspective as we see our humble role as one of many. When we climb up the mountain of life we can look down and see how insignificant so many of our western cultural beliefs are. Concepts such as ego, arrogance, and pride take away from our communal perception and instead support a misguided cult of individualism. Lets instead focus on what counts. Enlightenment, peace and happiness comes with humility. Episode 161 Being well with Lauren Learn to say no and be happy Day five MindBody Cleanse - The way of assertiveness By Lauren ostrowski Fenton Today we talk about how learning to say no can allow happiness to flow into our life. There will be so many moments in your life when people attempt to trample your boundaries, pressure you to please them, or distract you from being yourself. The answer is to have the assertiveness to demarcate your boundaries. The answer is to say no. Seth Godin says If you can't do a good job, don't take it on. If it's going to distract you from the work that truly matters, pass. If you don't know why they want you to do this, ask. If you need to hide it from your mom, reconsider. If it benefits you but not the people you care about, decline. If you're going along with the crowd, that's not enough. If it creates a habit that costs you in the long run, don't start. If it doesn't move you forward, hesitate then walk away. Have a think about a time when someone tried to encourage you to be disloyal to your own values. Were you true to your values? Or did you abandon your values in order to fit in with the group? How did you feel at this time? Being loyal to your sense of self may be challenging but in the end of the day being your authentic self will bring you not only happiness but contentment. Thats right you can see the animals, houses, and paths. They look smaller from up here on the mountain of perspective don't they? When we start to have perspective we start to light our way with the first lcandle of wisdom and enlightenment. Have you ever asked yourself know why they call it enlightenment? Because it is about lightening your emotional load so that you can focus on what counts. So what can we take out of our back back today? Anything which does not belong in the present. Take the past out. Remember when can we feel? We can only feel in the now and who does the feeling?- yes that's right - we do. And likewise we choose which feeling to pack into our backpack of now and which feelings to discard. If we have too many feelings we become distracted, confused and overwhelmed. Just like eating all the chocolates in a box rather than enjoying a select few. .Isn't it better just to choose one or two and truly savor them? Day two MindBody Cleanse - The path of forgiveness By Lauren Ostrowski Fenton Episode 158 Being well with Lauren Stop being loyal to your suffering and let it go Day 2 Forgiveness ( of 14 day MindBody cleanse) Well how did you go with day One? What did you learn? Don't forget that this is about giving up your teddy of past patterns and reforming new ones...and that is no easy process but you can do this. Today we examine forgiveness. Why have I chosen to explore forgiveness so early in the Mind body course? Because all change, all healing, all cleansing starts with empathy compassion and forgiveness. This is not about trotting out a 'that's ok' towards past memories and people this is about soul searching, meditation and self-inquiring in order that you physically and mindfully forgive everything which has occurred in the past- kind of like cleaning out a fridge...all the food with an expiry date is gone thrown out finished. You can do this. So roll up your sleeves and let's get forgiving. What is forgiveness? Surrendering to letting go of every negative feeling and allowing love for the other person and love for yourself flood in. Feelings of understanding, tolerance and exoneration are paramount here. When you forgive you take the box marked I still reflect on this past hurt with resentment and hurt out of your backpack- i give up all hurt and all resentment. To give up...now that is a big feeling isn't? - to totally give up..but what happens when we give up something? When we forgive a hurt we feel lighter because our load is lighter...if we want to get to the top of the mountain we need to lighten our load. Now don't forget your yoga and meditation practice. And we will speak again tomorrow about Day three ;being in the present'. Episode 155 Being well with Lauren Your pantry can forecast your future Just like we deep cleanse our skin for health and well being it is vital that we systematically deep cleanse our pantry. Our pantries are the larders of our life. Imagine for a moment that your pantry is your soul. Well to the extent that is correct as our pantries store the fuel which feeds our soul, and nourishes our brains. In our pantries we store our body's sustenance; the consumables which feed our brain, support our immune system and energizes our hearts. Our pantry reflects our state of mind and can even help to forecast our future. So in a way our pantries are psychic. So let's ask our pantry to lay down those tarot cards. Let's have a listen to our pantries. What is our pantry trying to communicate to us? Have a look in your pantry. Look at the shelves, the stock, space, and the order. What does your pantry say about you? Is it easy to navigate through your pantry? Is it categorized into slow release and fast release food? Are the herbs easy to sort through? Is there plenty of brown rice, wild rice, cous cous, and durum wheat pasta? Is there a variety of raw nuts? Are the oats whole grain? I ask you to journal your progress, note down what needs to change in your pantry and review the changes. You know the saying 'the way to a man's heart is 'thorugh the stomache? Well changes to our soul start in the pantry. And what does it mean to be sexy? Or are these concepts measurable or rather social ideals which are unattainable? Being attractive is simply a perception or a feeling resulting from our personal understanding that our peer group accepts us. Doesn't this feeling really has more to do with how we subjectively feel about ourselves rather than what we objectively look like... What do you think? Do you notice truly notice where your thoughts are pointing and how your thoughts effect your happiness? In other words, what you think about reflects how you feel. Today we talk about The ability to quieten your thoughts and to practice the art of noticing what is going on around you and how this directly affects your ability to feel happy. This is about paying attention, observing and witnessing every detail of your life in order that is more fully experienced. I have personally found that the more I practice the art of noticing, the more positive and optimistic my way of seeing has become. Why don't you take a moment right now to notice what is going on around you? What sights, sounds and aromas can you detect? How does it feel to breathe the air? Pay attention to your breath and notice the exhilarating gift of inhaling and exhaling. Walk around the area you are in, whether it is your bedroom, the kitchen, your office or the garden. Touch things, feel their texture, and listen to what you can hear. Notice one sense at a time for several moments and then go on to another sense and notice this for several moments too. Listen to sounds, one at a time. Separate out the various aromas and observe them one by one, naming each of them in your mind. Notice how you feel about each sense and try not to let your mind wander or jump forward into the future. As soon as you let your mind leap into the future, you lose this precious moment. You are in charge here. You get to choose where you allow your mind to go. You have the power to keep your mind in the present, in the here and now. The ability to quieten your thoughts and to practice the art of noticing what is going on around you lies within your mind, and the ability to change and modify your behaviour goes hand in hand with it. Throughout this book, we will complete a number exercises to help you practice the art noticing. For now, I just want you to register that 'noticing' is a skill.
