Episode 62 My beliefs on happiness- taken from my book...to be released so very soon....I will let you know when the pre order date arrives :) Merry Xmas my friends Quote from my book... “Here is what I believe I have touched on some of my ideas about happiness already and we will explore this topic in more depth in the next chapter. What is important for you to know now are some of my beliefs about happiness in general and about your happiness specifically. These beliefs have been distilled in my mind over time. They are the result of hard thinking and hard learning, and they inform my approach to happiness in this book. What I believe is this: Happiness is a state of mind that you can only feel today, not yesterday nor tomorrow. If you look for happiness in the future, you risk being perpetually unsatisfied, like a donkey forever following an elusive carrot that suspended on a rod from his forehead. 2 Happiness is an individual, subjective experience, which means that only you will know what happiness is for you at your age and stage of life. No one can tell you where to find or how to feel your happiness, because it is yours and yours alone. 3 Happiness requires self acceptance, because it is simply not possible to be happy if you are not happy with who you are. Happiness requires a clear sense of self worth, along with the ongoing development of self acceptance and self awareness. 4 Happiness may be experienced in three ways and these are through sensations of comfort, empathetic relationships or engagement, and meaningful, rewarding goals. These will all be explored in more detail in the chapters that follow. 5 Happiness requires a conscious decision and intentional action, so you need to make the decision to feel happy in spite of, or perhaps inspired by, the events in your life. Research shows that people shortly after winning tattslotto go back to the same level of happiness that they experienced before winning the money...why is that? Why doesn't the money make us feel happy? Some happiness philosophers in particular Martin Seligman believe that it is because of set point theory. A theory which proposes that we inherit a set level of happiness which does not have a lot of scope for movement. So how do we change our happiness levels? My boys made the decision without speaking to me to write me a dating profile! Aaaagh !Thank goodness they did not post it! What a shock or perhaps more than the shock of it maybe this experience serves as a wake up call...maybe it is time for me to face that the kids and I are a team rather than a number of individuals. I’ve gotten to the point recently where I’ve refused to accept help from people when I really need it because I’m so used to doing things on my own and I blame my pride for that. Then on the other hand, I’ve been dealing with some issues with my coworkers, particularly men, where I have been disrespected, yet I go about my daily life as if nothing has happened instead of addressing the issue head on. Today's homework questions are about the subtleties of self awareness, self understanding and self acceptance. Do you see these as being the same or are they different? How would you define each one? How do they relate to one another (e.g. does one need to be present before another can develop?) Is there a hierarchy here, where each one builds on the one that comes before it? Episode 48 Manifest infinite possibility and create yourself. You are an empowered soul. ‘How people treat you is their karma how you react is yours’ Wayne Dyer How are people treating you? How are you being treated? How do you ‘feel’ about the way you are being treated? Are your feelings affecting your happiness? Are your feelings affecting the quality of your life? Is that what actually occurs... or is it more about perception? Do other people's behaviour actually force us to feel in a particular way? No! we choose! Stand up now and shout to the roof tops...We choose our feelings and we choose how to manifest our life. We make the decision about how to internalise the behaviour of others...We choose whether to make other people's story our story. We do not have to be the end result of other people's frustrations. Lets not be the boat on top of the stormy ocean being buffeted around. Let anchor ourselves at port and stand firm in the reality that we create our own mind set. How do you choose to feel? After all it is your choice. We choose how to perceive the behaviour of others . We internalise experience ourselves and we look for ways to validate our feelings..so how do we re write our story? Episode 35 Stop & Build your own birdhouse of well being- visualise & meditate who you truly are & become your self Stop procrastinating; No fear. No distractions. "The ability to let what which does not matter truly slide" Quote from The Fight club I think at times it can be quite challenging to know what matters and to identify what to let go of. We can at times get distracted by the trivial stuff of the moment and can lose perspective of the bigger picture. What is the trivial stuff? The trivial stuff is the fluff which takes us away from who we truly are and our greater meaning. In the manic warp speed of life...we can lose touch of the "why" we need to identify "what" matters...the 'how" of our authentic values, the "how" of our behaviours which support these values, our internal dialogue, our actions...and then notice really notice where our thoughts go.....Because where we our thoughts go we also allow our health, our body our sense of self follows. So know your thoughts and train your mind to be with what really matters. FOCUS MEDITATE VISUALISE Today we talk about letting go of what does not matter. We talk about having a well being project such as building a birdhouse( a story from one of my listeners), and I talk about visualisation. I finish with a meditation to help us stop procrastinating and to develop a sense of self in the moment. I also reinforce the importance of journaling in the process of learning about self, staying with what really counts, and stopping procrastination. What are we doing to affect the world? Episde 33 Be your authentic self. You CAN lose weight, increase fitness, feel happy, & be well NOW. In this episode as part of our stop procrastinating challenge I look at what you CAN do. There is so much you CAN do...Work on the ‘CANS’ of life. Be the body physically and consciously which you wish to become. By definition Procrastination is ‘not doing’ the stuff that you should be doing in order to be authentic and true to yourself. When we procrastinate we are putting off being the person we were made to become. We have no greater meaning than being true to our word...Let’s make the stuff which comes out of our mouth real and be true testament to who we authentically are. Procrastination is breaking the promise which we have made to our own sense of self. Every moment in our life matters so lets be true to our self. Every moment in your life matters! This is your life right now. Make every moment matter. We can change our body. We can lose weight. We can increase fitness. .....Life is merely the moment of experience we have Right now. The process of stopping procrastination is rarely about the individual action...it is about the meaning behind the action ...so procrastination is serious stuff here. Episode 28 Who am I self awareness and getting stuff done In this podcast episode as part of our 'great apple pie stop procrastinating series' we explore how we self-realise or in other words how we get to know our authentic self away from the madding crowds. After all we are not our names, we are not our friends, we are not the cars we drive, or the clothes we wear. We are not who others tell us we are...we define ourselves. No one can do that for us. In the silence through meditation and self reflection we can realise what gives us our own mojo; our sense of who we inherently are...and what behaviours make us feel that sense of timeless contentment..that sense of quiet purpose...and place a Mona Lisa smile upon our faces. It is only when we start to discover our true self that we can learn to stop procrastinating and face up to who we are, what we want, and how to achieve our purpose. I also answer Davids letter... "Wasn't sure if we were to share our life moments on our self-discovery. Yet found the homework quite difficult. Trying to define who am I? I've found that I've been conditioned to work at a job I don't like. Family and friends are my first priority and I do more for them, than I do for myself. And I follow successful people in hope that it would lead me to my higher purpose. But I just don't know what I'm suppose to be doing. Which when I write who am I. I'm stumped? Episode 26 of the great apple pie stop procrastinating challenge Fighting procrastination is never just about putting away the coffee cup of life. Simple acts are always about larger more profound beliefs. It is about having the guts to look into the mirror and see who we really are. Procrastination is about fear of success...it is about facing the fears head on..this is a confronting process and it is sometimes just plain hard...but that is ok.... procrastination is also about being positive in the process. ..Having love in the process...It’s about looking at life head on...with perspective..but also with kindness If you want to change simple behaviours we need to keep front of mind that procrastination is about avoiding doing the real meaty stuff that you should be doing that we should be doing to be the best me that we could be..it is never simply about not putting away the coffee cup...it is about the symbolism behind the coffee cups..what is the symbolism behind your coffee cups? So Homework... 1. Keep finding time to reflect by yourself.. 2. Write a mission statement( generic not specific) who you are broad based. The statement which reflects what you stand by. 3. Write down your values philosophies standards ethics beliefs which mark who we are I want you to own that it is never a simple coffee cup..it is always about who you are. This is about bringing more love to the world so let's really focus on that. Home work my friend mission statement and values...keep positive this is a positive exercise not an exercise about rumination in the past that has gone. Let's face the fear today one step at a time. Episode 25 Hi Lauren here...This is part of the Great apple pie 14 day stop procrastinating challenge which officially starts Monday...in three days. Who decides that we are procrastinating? We do! ...After all.... you define yourself ...You decide that you are procrastinating...You decide that you are not doing the stuff that you need to do. Ask yourself... Who are you? What are your values? What do you need? What defines you. This is about you knowing yourself. Getting to know yourself requires quality reflection, creating emotional, and physical space to self realise. I want you to take the time away from all distractions and sit down and reflect and meditate on who you inherently are. You are who you decide to be...we can get clogged up with other people stories...emotional layers of the past...of relationships or experiences which you choose to put on. I want you to realise that when you do not take the time to get to know yourself you are procrastinating Don't put off being the person now that you wish to become. How do you get to know yourself? In the quiet. Tasks for this episode: Journal & affirmation Purchase a journal and start taking notes. JOURNAL MY FRIEND JOURNAL sit down quietly and say the following affirmation.... Procrastination affirmation I believe in myself I believe in myself Despite the experiences I have had... the past behind me the relationships in my life I choose today and each day after to complete small tasks towards being my true self...small tasks to being now the person I would like to become I choose to be that person now.
