Close your eyes and settle yourself into your bed, Snuggling into your blankets, And giving yourself permission to move around a little bit, Releasing any tension or kinks you may be feeling in your body, Maybe stretching your neck or legs or arms, And then take a deep breath in, And on your exhale, ease your body into your most comfortable position. Pulling your attention onto your breathing. Allowing each breath out to relax you further and further into comfort. Breathe... PAUSE… There’s something causing you to be out of harmony tonight, Toxic streams of energy flowing through you, Creating imbalance, Darkness, And perhaps even a bit of chaos. PAUSE… Maybe you know exactly how this toxic energy got here. Or perhaps you simply feel a little off. Why it’s here or how it got here is not important right now. What’s important is that you allow yourself to release it, So you can clear your mind and free your soul, and sleep peacefully tonight. PAUSE… So see if you can imagine yourself locating where this toxic energy is living in your body right now. Where are you feeling tension? Stress? Pain? Heaviness? Bring your attention to those places, And notice a bright red light humming there, Moving through your body slowly like lava. Carrying its pain and negativity throughout your body. Feel its heat, its density. And just observe yourself, lying on your bed, The heat of this toxic red lava flowing slowly through you. PAUSE… It’s okay that it’s here. The glow of the toxic red lava can invade any one of us at any time. You are so wise for being aware that it’s here and knowing that it needs to go. PAUSE… So let your attention come onto your breath. This powerful stream of life whose magic is unlimited. Let yourself swim in the slowing currents of your breathing, Breathing in, And Breathing out, Slower and slower each time. Until the rhythm is soothing, calming and powerful, just like the waves of the ocean. PAUSE… Now on each breath out, imagine that toxic, red lava exiting your body. Watch it briefly dance in the space around you, before it dissolves into the night. Breathe in, Breathe out red. Breathe in. Breathe out the lava. Breathe in. Breathe out all the toxic energy. Watch it dissolve into the space around you. PAUSE… Stay focused on your exhale, And the feeling of lightness inside your body as it releases all the red lava, All the toxic energy. Breathe it out. And feel the soft tingling inside of you as your body cleanses it all out. Feel the tingling in your head, Your neck, Your chest, Your arms and hands, Your stomach, Your hips, Your legs, And your feet. Breathe it all out. Until the last drops of toxic lava have dissolved. PAUSE... You are free. You are love. And you are light. The anxieties, the worries, the fears… Gather them all up, And let them go. So you can drift off peacefully into the tranquil night. Breathe in deeply, And pull yourself into this moment. Fill your entire body with air, Holding it at the top for just a moment. And then breathe out, Releasing the day, Releasing the thoughts. Another deep breath in, Gathering up all the things left undone, The grey clouds of emotions hiding inside, Hold it at the top, Hold, And let it go, Releasing all of it through your exhale. Bring your breathing to an easy, natural rhythm, And then allow yourself a moment to find your most favorite sleeping position. PAUSE… Come here, Into your bed, Your safe island of refuge. Your worries, fears and anxieties want to snuggle with you here, And keep you awake. But tonight, They’re not welcome. Tonight, they are banned from your safe, sleepy island. PAUSE… So relax, Exhaling yourself deeper into your bed. Imagining the air flowing into your body as you inhale is finding all those parts of your body that are tense right now, And with its gentle touch, Dissolves that tension as your exhale releases it, Relaxing you deeper with each breath. Breathe in and let the fresh air find the tension in your forehead, Your eyes, Your cheeks and jaw, And your neck. Breathe out the tightness. PAUSE… Feel your inhale finding the stress in your shoulders, Your arms, Your chest, And your stomach. Breathe out and release the tension. PAUSE… Invite the air in to find the tightness in your hips, Your back, Your legs, And your feet. Exhale and let go of all the tension. And feel your entire body melt further into your bed. LONG PAUSE… As your body quiets, Your mind may be getting louder. Sneaking in random flashes of visions that want to wake you. But instead of looking too long, See if you can see those thoughts or visions as they pop up, And image them magically morphing into the shape of a shell. A vision pops up, A fear, A worry, An anxiety, And watch it shift into a shell, Nestled in the sand on your safe, sleepy island. PAUSE… One by one, Observe any of those visions, Anxieties, Worries, Fears. As your body lies here in the comfort of your bed, Just notice those thoughts come up, And change into shells, That now rest at the foot of your bed, On the beach of your safe island of sleep. LONG PAUSE… Keep searching for them, Those heavy anxieties, worries and fears plague your mind, And collect them, And placing the shells on your beautiful beach. PAUSE… When all the shells have been gathered, And are piled high on the sand, Imagine yourself looking at them, Without emotion, Without meaning, And feeling safe knowing they are not within you, They are not a part of you. PAUSE… And as you breathe in deep, Feeling the fresh spaces now open inside of you, Reach down, And take those shells, Moving them into the boat on your beach. One by one, Take those shells of anxiety, Of worry, Of fear, And place them in the boat, Until you see all of them piled high within its walls. Bring your breathing to its normal, relaxed rhythm, And see if you can feel the slight buzz of energy inside of you from the increase of oxygen. Breathe. PAUSE… There is nowhere for you to be right now. Nothing you need to respond to. No comment you need to make. No information you need to know. Now is your time to rest, To slowly dance with the comforting shadows of the night, And let yourself be still. So just be here, And breathe. Letting the slow movement of your breathing ease you into the sleep that awaits you. PAUSE… Let yourself feel the heavy blankets of social media on top of you, The weight of the emotions, thoughts, responses and habits it creates. The need to check your phone, To make a post, To see what’s going on. Feel the emotions that arise, And the thoughts that linger. Feel the impact of their weight as you lay under those blankets, Your mind perhaps spinning from the information, interaction and addiction. PAUSE… Now imagine that the top blanket is gently pulled off. You immediately feel soothing relief, And your mind slows down just a bit. Then the next blanket is pulled away. And the next, And the next, Until all those heavy blankets are gone, And you lay on your bed feeling free, Light, Calm, Still. Breathe… And let yourself melt further into your bed. PAUSE… Let it all go, And come to sleep. It’s a soothing ritual that gives her the chance to calm her body and mind, and also gives us precious, intimate moments together. Tonight, I invite you to join me as I guide you through a meditation I wrote for her one night after she went to bed, with the intention that you can feel the love in the words, and the relaxation in your body, so you can easily drift off to sleep. Settle into your bed tonight, sweet girl, and let me lay beside you. Let me feel the softness of the sheets, and finally surrender to their welcoming calmness. I've held it all today, and my mind is not done. It wants to hurry you to bed, finish my tasks, and worry about all those things that seem so important right now. PAUSE... But then I look at you, Really look at you, Gazing into the chocolate sea of your eyes. And I'm suddenly fully here, in this moment, in this bed, present with you, and fully awake to everything about you. PAUSE... I take a deep breath in, and as I exhale, I melt deeper into the bed next to you, feeling the layers of the day dissolve. And feeling you here closer to me. Breathe... PAUSE... Your light is the brightest I've ever known, and I find myself searching for its source. You reach out your hands to me, silently inviting me to relax you with touch, and I smile softly as my fingers exude their warmth and love on your skin, Caressing your forehead, your eyes, your cheeks, your chin. PAUSE... I see you here, and in one swift breath, I see you as a teenager, as an adult, As a mom, As a grandmother, As a fierce force of love that sends ripples throughout the universe. PAUSE... I relax further into the bed, further into you, Further into this cosmic moment where no time exists, and you and I are one. PAUSE... I see you, my beautiful little girl, And I feel overwhelmed with the magic of who you are. Amazed and grateful that you chose me as your mom, And completely aligned with the gorgeous mystery that is life. PAUSE... Your beauty shines from the inside out, and in this moment, I see it all. Your hopes, your dreams, your heart, your soul. And wish you harmony with it all. PAUSE... I won't worry for you, But instead fan your flames so they grow. So their heat can warm others, and their flames of love can spread. Breathe, dear one, and rest now, here with me, as we let the peaceful arms of sleep carry us into the night. Watch over me, Wise Owl, And remind me that it’s all okay. That my mess can be my message, And that I have a special place in this world...just like you. PAUSE.. I am part of an infinite tapestry of art, That touches galaxies and the fabric beneath me now. You know this, Wise. Owl, So deeply, So wholly. So cover me in the blankets of your wisdom tonight, As my body melts into this bed. PAUSE… Let sleep come as I feel your calm soul, And am soothed by your presence. I let myself breathe deeply. This beautiful, complicated machine that literally carries us around in this life that we can so easily take for granted. Maybe you’ve had moments of ignoring her or even loathing her. No matter what your relationship with your body has been or currently is, the intention of tonight’s meditation is to give you the opportunity to pay homage to her and to soak in gratitude for the incredible and beautiful body you have. So you can end your day feeling full of love and deeply connected to your body, as she carries you peacefully into dreamland. Close your eyes, And allow your attention to settle onto your breathing. This simple action your body does for you without you having to think about it. This intake of oxygen that feeds your entire life. PAUSE… Now bring your attention to your legs, Your calves, knees, quads and thighs, And see all the images of their powerful strength moving you and balancing you, And let the gratitude flood in, Inviting the golden light to calm you, And melt you further into the night. PAUSE… Bring your attention to the beautiful bundle of your sexual organs, This magical garden that exudes the essence of your womanhood. Pleasure and life can live here...can thrive here. And even when they haven’t, this garden is here for you, working on your behalf. Breathe in gratitude, and feel yourself grow lighter. Imagine that golden light soothing you here, Easing you deeper into sleep. PAUSE… Now let your attention travel up to your stomach, your heart, your breasts and your chest. Turn off the thoughts inside your head and let your body fall deeply into the comforting arms of sleep. Close your eyes and invite your body to relax into your most favorite sleeping position. Bring your attention inward. Noticing the weight of your body on your bed. Feeling the softness of your sheets or blankets. Hearing the soft whispers of your breath as it enters and exits your nose. Observing where your body may be tight and inviting those areas to relax. Relaxing your cheeks and jaw. Lowering your shoulders, Softening your belly, Relaxing your arms and legs. Surrender to the soothing rhythm of your body, And breathe. PAUSE… One by one, the thoughts may bubble up to the surface of your consciousness. Begging for your attention. They tease you with a false sense of importance, Making you feel like you have to give into their cries. But you don’t. Their dramas don’t need to be played out right now. Now is your time for sleep. Your time to restore your mind, body and soul. Your time to be embraced by the loving arms of the night. Nothing needs to be done. Nothing needs to be figured out. Just breathe… PAUSE… The thoughts will continue to arise and that’s normal. They may be helpful thoughts, trying to manage or organize your days. Or maybe they’re excited thoughts, swirling with people, ideas and experiences that make you smile with hope and exhilaration. Or maybe they’re anxious thoughts, soaked in worry, fear and stress. They could even be seemingly random and strange thoughts, depicting memories or insights that don’t make much sense. Whatever is coming to the surface, See if you can imagine each of these thoughts as a small glowing ball of light, floating in the air around you. And every time you breathe out, Imagine that your breath extinguishes the light on one of these thoughts, one of these balls of light. Breathe out and turn off the thoughts. One by one. With each breath out. Darkening the space around you as each ball of light turns off and vanishes into the night. Breathe out. Breathe out. PAUSE… As another thought comes up, imagine it again as a glowing light around you, And as you exhale, blow out the light, and watch it dissolve into the night. Breathe in, And blow out another light. Breathe in, And blow out another light. PAUSE… What was once bright with all the glowing lights of thoughts, Is now dark. Empty. Peaceful. Quiet. Inhale and feel the fresh air filling your belly, And exhale into the darkness. PAUSE... Anytime another thought comes up, Just see it as a small, glowing light, And then blow it out on your exhale. This is your special space of stillness. Where your body can relax, And your mind can clear, So you may drift off into deep sleep. PAUSE… Rest deep into your body, Bringing your attention here. Far away from the thoughts, And the movement of your mind. PAUSE… Sink a little further, And as you do, allow your body to stretch. Straighten your arms, And your legs out wide, As far as they can reach. Hold them here for a moment, Squeezing and gathering up every bit of pain, Stress, And detail inside. PAUSE… And then exhale, And release the stretch, Letting it all go, And softening your body even further. LONG PAUSE… Now place your hand, On the side of your head, And slowly pull it down to one side, Stretching the side of your neck. PAUSE… Breathe into the stretch, Expanding the space inside, And inviting in relief. PAUSE… Now reverse the stretch, Gently pulling your head down from the other side, Feeling the stretch on the other side of your neck. Breathe… And feel every fiber stretch out all that tension. PAUSE… And then release the stretch, And feel the warmth of the relief, As you melt further into bed. LONG PAUSE… Feel into your body, And bring your attention to your neck. Imagine all the points of pain, All those spots of tension, Are glowing soft red. PAUSE… Breathe into those places, From the bottom of your skull, Down the sides of your neck, And into the contours of your upper shoulders. PAUSE… Imagine everything opening, And softening. Opening, And softening, As you breathe in relief, And breathe out tension. LONG PAUSE… Notice that the soft red glow, Becomes a little dimmer now, And your head feels a little lighter. PAUSE… Now imagine your spine stretching, From the bottom of your back, All the way up to the top of your neck. Pulling, Extending, Straightening. Opening up the space between every vertebrae. One by one, Making space, And releasing the pain. LONG PAUSE… The glowing red dims again, Almost completely. And your body feels spacious. Heavy and deeply relaxed, And also light and open.
