PAUSE… Now take a big, deep breath in, Gathering up all the pieces of your day, And then hold it for just a moment. And then exhale, And release. PAUSE… Breathe in deep one more time, Gathering up all the worries, the plans, the details. Hold it at the top, And then release, Breathing all of it out. PAUSE… Let your breathing settle into a soft, Gentle rhythm, As you bring yourself inside. Notice the slow rising, And falling, Of your belly and chest. Notice the cool air on your nose as you breathe in, And the warm air on your nose as you breathe out. Notice the soft sounds of the night, Humming lightly in the background. PAUSE… Feel it gently cover and soften your forehead, Your eyes, Your cheeks, And your lips. Let your jaw release, And drop your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Feel your entire face soften and relax. PAUSE… Imagine the indigo light falling gently, Down your neck, Covering your shoulders, And traveling down your right arm, And your left arm. PAUSE… Imagine the indigo light, Pulling out the tension, Releasing the stress, And relaxing you deep, Deep, Into the night. LONG PAUSE… The soft glow of the indigo light, Slowly moves down your body, Blanketing your stomach, And your hips. You feel it streaming down your back, From the top of your neck, Down, down, down, To the bottom of your spine. Slowly relaxing you, As you let go, Release, And allow your body to sink into the night. LONG PAUSE… The warm glow of the indigo light, Descends down the expanse of your right leg, Then your left leg, Relaxing the thighs, Your knees, Your ankles, And your feet. PAUSE… Allow any remaining thoughts, Worries, Or emotions, To float down, Down, Out of you, Releasing themselves into the darkness, And floating far, Far away, From you. LONG PAUSE And breathe in deeply again, letting the cool, comfort of your bed relax you as you sink deeper into it. LONG PAUSE And as you breathe, let your breath form a rhythm, gently moving in and out and lulling you into a deep, restful calm. LONG PAUSE Now, imagine the breath lightening your body, so that it feels more open, almost weightless. PAUSE And with this beautiful, relaxed feeling, notice the sheets of your bed transforming into fluffy clouds beneath your body. PAUSE After a moment, the clouds lift you up out of room and above the house, sailing slowly and gently through the air. PAUSE The air is like satin around you, giving you a wonderful level of comfort as you float along. PAUSE Now, imagine the cloud taking you to a wooden door with a arched frame and iron spikes all around like a gate… a door that leads to a garden. PAUSE The door creaks open and the cloud lets you down, and you are amazed at the lushness of the summer garden before you. PAUSE There are white and yellow daisies, purple geraniums, pink peonies and brilliant magenta hibiscus blooming everywhere. PAUSE You breathe in and catch the scent of lilac blossoming in a corner, Its beautiful purple stocks bending in the breeze. PAUSE As you stroll through the rows of rainbow colored flowers, one of the hibiscus flowers catches your attention: A tiny pink and green hummingbird is sipping its nectar. PAUSE You draw closer to the flower, and the bird doesn’t seem to mind, as you watch its tiny wings beat so fast you can barely see them there. PAUSE After a satisfying drink, the little hummingbird lifts in the air and leaves the garden. PAUSE Moments later a honeybee lands on a daisy, buzzing like a violin. PAUSE Safely, you watch the bee as it goes right to work gathering its food and then flitting to another flower, pollinating it and giving the garden continued life. PAUSE Moments later, a dragonfly flutters by, pausing briefly in the air and then on the ground, its stain-glass wings shimmering in the sunlight. PAUSE A tiny black and gold chipmunk pokes it head out from behind a shrub, and a bushy-tailed squirrel shakes a pine tree bouncing from limb to limb. PAUSE In the center of the garden, you notice a fountain carved from stone with two cherubs dancing on top. PAUSE Water tunnels out from the heart of one of the cherubs, splashing gently into the water below. As you draw near, you notice two large koi fish swimming in the fountain, Their golden scales slimmering in the water. PAUSE You pause, and sit on a stone bench near the fountain, so you can take in all the beauty of the garden. PAUSE After a while, you notice the sun slowly fading, and the azure blue sky turing to midnight blue. PAUSE A few fireflies light up the garden, and you watch their hypnotic lights before noticing the fluffy cloud has returned. PAUSE It’s time to leave the summer garden but you now carry its beauty with you, day and night. Every day. Swaddle yourself as best you can, And let the night’s comfort begin. PAUSE… When was the last time you felt secure, Completely safe, warm, and content? It’s odd that we think we outgrow those things, That we no longer need what they represent. PAUSE… At our core, we’ll always be children, No matter what age we reach. Even if we become parents as well, We continue to learn what we teach. PAUSE… The lessons don’t always come equally, And some you might never learn at all. But others affect your very survival, Protecting you from a fall. PAUSE… First, you deserve to know you’re loved, To know you’re worth the effort. Maybe you’ll start to look forward to bedtime, To the chance to unplug for a while. PAUSE… By now, you know what a challenge it is, To live life as a full-fledged adult. Maybe the reason we all struggle so much, Is our refusal to admit we need help. PAUSE… You might not need the predictable type, More like a boost for the soul. And if childhood routines can help you find joy, Then they certainly have their role. PAUSE… Let your mind wander through your past, Allow it to slip back in time. LONG PAUSE And as you lavish in the covers, feel your body melting in relaxation. LONG PAUSE And as you feel your body relax, let your mind open to visions and dreams. LONG PAUSE Take a moment and find yourself in an art gallery, with magnificently high ceilings, and hundreds of paintings adorning the walls. PAUSE It’s the middle of the night and you can see thousands of glistening stars through the glass ceiling. PAUSE You’re standing in the center of a large hall, next to marble statue of a discus thrower, a young Grecian man, bathed in soft moonlight. PAUSE The statue is milky smooth on the surface, with fine, pristine details of the face and body, and muscles sculpted with perfection. PAUSE The discus thrower looks as if he’s coiled up and ready to release all of human kind’s potential in a single throw. PAUSE You close your eyes and imagine the discus player coming to life and releasing his discus. PAUSE The discus is unleashed into the night sky, flying higher and higher until it’s out of sight. PAUSE As you gaze the discus thrower, the milky smooth marble softens into skin, and the discus thrower takes your hand and pulls you onto the platform. PAUSE He smiles, brushes a tuft of chestnut hair from his brow and raises his arm. PAUSE With his arms in the air, figures from the paintings gingerly step out and onto the floor. Sculptures unwind and walk about. PAUSE The air is perfumed with the fragrance of sweet wildflowers and freshly baked bread as well as dusting powder and cologne, all from the figures in the artwork. PAUSE A barmaid stops by the platform sharing goblets of wine with you and the discus thrower. She moves about the gallery offering her elixir to all. PAUSE You sip the wine enjoying its taste and the warm feeling of relaxation it brings. PAUSE Then, a woman with resplendent honey-color hair trots a dapple gray mare through the hall, proud and stately. PAUSE The women smiles and pauses to tap goblets with the discus player, then with you, before trotting off to somewhere else. PAUSE Around the hallway, you notice that figures from the art, are now real people, that stop and chat with one another, embrace and laugh just like dear friends. PAUSE Two fishermen walk by with a casting net in their arms and the discus thrower asks where their boat is. PAUSE The fishers laugh and point to a wall where a brown wooden boat with sails like canopies sits in the middle of a painting. PAUSE In the distance, you notice a man with a gray bowler hat and pinstripe suit waltzes with a woman with pink ribbons in her hair and dress. It’s so beautiful. PAUSE And while watching the figures from the art come together, there’s an understanding of community of how everyone contributes– how everyone gives something back. PAUSE After a moment, you notice the discus thrower standing up on the platform, and his discus slowly returning to his hand. PAUSE The discus thrower gently leads you off the platform then repositions himself just as he was when you first saw him. PAUSE Gradually, then, the other pieces of art quietly reassemble themselves, blending back into paintings, and recreating their poses as sculptures. LONG PAUSE… Feel the warmth in your chest, The gentle hum of your light. Let it remind you of who you are, Let it comfort you tonight. PAUSE… I know the thoughts are scary, And the emotions keep swirling around. I know they dance with each other, And quickly compound. PAUSE… But if you just practice, Separating yourself from their dance. You’ll see that you don’t have to, Succumb to their heavy trance. PAUSE… These feelings, these worries, And the heaviness that they bring. They’re all temporary, And soon won’t mean a thing. PAUSE… The best thing you can do, The strategy that always works best. Is to connect with your deep self, And remember how you’re blessed. LONG PAUSE… So bring your attention here, To the movement of your breath. Detach from those thoughts, And feel your body’s depth. PAUSE… You are not your circumstances, You are not your thoughts. You are love embodied, One with the divine, magical source. Prepare yourself to go within, Make renewal your goal. PAUSE… Think about the way you speak to yourself, The language you hear in your head. The words are likely different than those you select, When talking to others instead. PAUSE… In life, we talk about love languages, Meaning the way others’ gestures impact us. But in a very real way, the words we use, Create a pattern to which we adjust. PAUSE… If you tend to speak kindly, both inside and out, Then your love language is already in place. But if you’re snappish and dismissive, to yourself if not others, Then it’s time for a change of pace. PAUSE… Think of the words you use most of all, Then think about how they make you feel. Though a harsh word here or there can be harmless, A pattern makes the pain real. PAUSE… It’s no secret we’re usually hard on ourselves, And there are times to be held to account. Tough mental love isn’t the answer though, Especially in generous amounts. PAUSE… Imagine having a secret code, A list of words that buoy your spirit. Using them often might change everything, Making your self-love transparent. PAUSE… Maybe it helps to be reassured that you’re safe. Or that your intentions matter most of all. Perhaps you need to hear that your dreams have value, And you’re worth loving just as you are. PAUSE… Whatever the message, if it makes you okay, Practice saying what you need to hear. The world may agree, or the world may not, But it doesn’t matter if your own belief is sincere. Take a deep breath and make yourself a promise, vow to be an encouraging voice. Release that breath and feel the weight of that gift, the gift of compassionate choice. LONG PAUSE… Words are not just pebbles to toss around. They’re not just vague placeholders. The way you speak to yourself matters a lot, Turning small stones into great boulders. PAUSE… By contrast, if you begin to cast sunshine, Instead of repeatedly throwing shade, The light you shine on a wounded soul, Can make that grave pain fade. PAUSE… Once you’ve mastered being kind to yourself, You can change things for others as well. The words you send out into the world, Can bring the troubled out of their shell. PAUSE… Just as your own self-talk makes you feel seen, Like your presence is both required and enjoyed, The gentle and caring things you say, Can pull others back from the void. LONG PAUSE And, as you breathe in, feel the breath expanding through you, creating healing energy and connecting all of you. LONG PAUSE Keep inhaling and exhaling and envision the breath gently touching all of your body. LONG PAUSE Now, as you continue breathing, bring your thoughts to the present and feel yourself in the now. PAUSE In the present, feel your body comfortably connecting with your bed, sinking into it with deep relaxation. PAUSE And as you deepen your relaxation, imagine the cozy covers of the bed separating and transforming into the softest petal of a flower. PAUSE The petal has a gentle aroma that calms the soul with each breath. PAUSE After a moment, the petal safely lifts you into the air and suspends above your bed before gently sailing out the door. PAUSE You nestle into the petal and its luscious comfort and enjoy the sensation of flying slowly out into the world while wrapped in the petal. PAUSE The moon shines brightly, lighting your way, as the petal rises in the air. PAUSE Slowly, the petal continues to rise until you’re surrounded by a playground of stars. PAUSE Each star shimmers in the inky sky, and you feel their energy resonating with you. PAUSE You take a moment and notice that the stars seem to play with one another, shining messages and dancing in the night sky. PAUSE You imagine dancing with the stars, waltzing slowly through the cosmos, lights trailing your every move like a shadow of diamonds. PAUSE Then, the stardust gathers beneath the petal and ever-so-gingerly moves it along. PAUSE Gently, like the rudder on a rowboat, the stardust guides the petal back into Earth’s atmosphere. PAUSE The petal floats downward until you’re surrounded by mountains standing tall with the glimmer of the moon. PAUSE As the petal wafts toward the ground, a tiny brook catches your eye. PAUSE The brook is small and filled with stones that sparkle like jewels in the moonlight. PAUSE As the petal descends, it makes a cushioned landing in the stream and begins gently moving with the water. PAUSE Along the banks, fireflies twinkle and tease one another as the petal continues to float in the brook. PAUSE A bullfrog sounds a mating call, then splashes in the water. PAUSE A symphony of cicadas sing their songs while the great horned owl’s hoots cut through the dark with their own music. PAUSE Now, imagine a warm breeze cradling the petal, carrying it out of the brook and taking it away. PAUSE You feel comfort and trust as the breeze steers the petal. PAUSE After a few moments, the petal sails back into your room PAUSE The soft petal unfurls and melts into your luxurious bed, leaving you a calmness that wraps around you just like the petal. LONG PAUSE It feels like those days come with so much noise, whether it’s work, or cleaning or picking up kids’ toys. LONG PAUSE So when the sun disappears behind the moon-kissed clouds you retreat to your room to a cushion of no sound. LONG PAUSE And lying on your bed, you connect with a deep peace. You find a comfy position beneath the silken sheets. LONG PAUSE And you open up your breath to feel the air of night and the cool mist enters you with a feeling that all is right PAUSE You choose to be in a place serene away from others where you’re not seen. LONG PAUSE And on those nights when you want to get away, something magical happens at the end of your day. PAUSE From the depths of calm found only in your room, you’re wrapped in love in a spiritual cocoon. PAUSE And before you know it, your cocoon opens up and two gossamer wings elevate you above. PAUSE Your wings are swirling with a kaleidoscope of colors, and as you rise upward, they begin to flutter. PAUSE Neon colors stretch around you from the magic of the wings, and as you float above the house, the chorus of the night sings. PAUSE The cicadas are happy and so is the red fox. The deer are calm and so are your thoughts. PAUSE And you understand intuitively that the animals are free and you want to enjoy your own freedom peacefully. PAUSE And so, like the animals that scurry around in the night, you find this time sacred before the morning light. PAUSE So your filmy, pale wings take you up to the trees where you see the opal moon with total ease. PAUSE And the moon comes alive in a way so enchanting and shares her secrets with you with conscious understanding. PAUSE Your wings flutter brightly and your heart seems to know that the moon’s tip for you is to honor your soul. PAUSE “But it’s hard,” you say in honest protest, and the moon replies, “It will make sense when you rest.” PAUSE The moon continues to share that “Your dreams are your source. Just ask what you want, and you’ll be given it, and more.” PAUSE And the words of great luna send a ripple of peace running through your neon wings, allowing your calmness to increase. PAUSE And the great silver orb smiles and gives you a wink, and your prismatic wings begin to comfortably sink. We spend years of our lives seeking it out, To then be humbled when our efforts go to waste. PAUSE… Nothing in life can be perfect, When each eye has its own view. There is no ideal to suit every mind, And no perception that’s truly true. PAUSE… We end up driving ourselves crazy, As we chase what we think others want. But just like us, they’re racing in circles, Paying no mind to what we are or are not. PAUSE… Things feel so life-or-death sometimes, Like the world will stop if we fail. But failure is as unmeasurable as everything else, So it’s useless to allow fear to prevail. PAUSE… Instead, we need to change our view, To decide on our own kind of perfection. It needn’t make sense to anyone else, A bit like looking at your own reflection. Breathe in and see yourself as only you can, your strengths, your quirks, your magic. Breathe out and set that essence free, let the world know who you really are. LONG PAUSE… What might you do if you wouldn’t be judged, If no one waited to rate your performance? Would you find a new passion or take a new risk, Or perhaps reassess your importance? PAUSE… The truth is, you can do those things. You can chart a new path right this minute. For the eyes you feel upon you all the time, Only exist when the mind overruns your spirit. PAUSE… Freedom is the antidote to perfection, The path to your own ideal world. You can create your own utopia, When you let your anxieties unfurl. PAUSE… Though it’s hard to know where they come from, These fears show up in us all. We want to fit in, to feel worthy and admired, But instead end up scared and small. PAUSE As you stroll through the shelves, titles of thousands of leather-bound books reveal themselves, beckoning you to take a closer look. PAUSE After a few moments of combing the stacks, an elevator with an iron door appears, and safely, you step into it. PAUSE Inside the elevator you’re struck by its beauty– all brass and white marble with no buttons to push for floors; the elevator just knows where to take you. PAUSE The elevator stops on a floor, and the doors open. Curiously, you exit and begin perusing the stacks, eager to learn what wisdom they hold. PAUSE Walking through the shelves of books, a light energy buzzes in you, the energy of learning fills your soul. PAUSE A thick, brown leather book with gold lettering and yellow, dusty pages calls to you, and as you reach for it, the book magically lifts off the shelf and opens on a table where you can read it. PAUSE The yellowy pages hold elaborate calligraphy with vivid color images of royalty and faeries and everyday men from the sixteenth century.. PAUSE Now, imagine the images spring from the pages and holographic characters begin talking in Olde English right in front of you. PAUSE Magically, you understand everything: two sets of lovers quarrel, a king complains about his daughter, and a group of everyday men try to put on a play that is so bad, you have to laugh. Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream comes to life before your eyes. PAUSE After a few moments, the images dissolve back into the book, and another book flies off the shelf to you. PAUSE Before your eyes, Galileo rises, telescope in hand, as he gazes at the stars. PAUSE Galileo is silent at first, looking deep into the cosmos that unfolds around you with twinkling stars and swirling galaxies. PAUSE You see exactly what Galileo sees: the full moon shining, Venus aglow, and Jupiter with its moons. They all light up before you. PAUSE Then, Galileo puts down his telescope and feverishly scribbles something in a notebook. PAUSE Fascinated by his every move, you try to read Galileo’s notes and understand his calculations. PAUSE Then something tells you sit back and breathe, and while breathing, you absorb Galileo’s knowledge naturally like you were given a new lens to see the world. PAUSE The pages close, and the astronomer disappears back into the magical book, leaving you with a joy from learning. PAUSE As you walk to the elevator, you feel your soul collecting the knowledge from all the texts, all the books in the library. LONG PAUSE Then breathe, just take in slow, deliberate deep breathes that cleanse you. LONG PAUSE And with each cleansing breath, allow the air to spread through your body, relaxing and focusing your attention on you. LONG PAUSE While continuing to relax, give yourself permission to let beautiful, magical dreams come to you. LONG PAUSE Now, imagine your room with the blinds or drapes closed, and with a little pinpoint of light peeking through. PAUSE The light fascinates you, so you go to the window to explore it. PAUSE As you open the blinds, imagine being gently swept into a dream where you stand above a mountain landscape. PAUSE The mountain is laced with emerald green terraces, cut into the mountainside. They look like wide, green steps in a staircase. PAUSE Gently, you descend on one of the terraces and realize you’ve landed in a rice paddy at harvest time. PAUSE Rice grows on each terrace, and men and women with bronze skin, wide-brimmed straw hats and focused expressions harvest the rice. PAUSE The men and women speak In a language like music that you just naturally understand. PAUSE As you draw closer, a woman looks up at you and bids you to come watch her as she works. PAUSE You comfortably bend over and observe how she harvests the rice with intention. Her curved knife smoothly glides through the plant as it separates the golden grains from the main stalk. PAUSE You run your fingers over the stalks and are surprised by the coarseness of the grain. PAUSE The woman then takes you to large flat rock with tubes of bamboo fastened on top; she hands you some stalks of rice. PAUSE Together, you thresh the rice stalks against the bamboo and watch as the rice grains separate and sprinkle like a shower of golden rain. PAUSE The woman gathers up the grains in a basket, and turns to look at you. The soft expression and hint of sadness in her eyes tell you it’s time for you to go. PAUSE You fold your hands, bow and thank the woman before being magically transported back to your room. PAUSE You pause and take a breath, making way for the next dream. PAUSE Again, a tiny light creeps through the blinds, calling you to come see the wonders behind it. PAUSE As you’re pulled into the dream, you find yourself in a lush, tropical world with a majestic volcano in the distance. PAUSE You marvel at the volcano as it spews a small amount of steam like a locomotive coming to a stop. PAUSE Then, a river of lava courses down the side of the mountain with mesmerizing hues of orange, red and yellow dancing as they descend. PAUSE The air hangs heavy with the smell of sulfur and salt while molten lava shimmers and glows, blazing a trail of change down the mountain. PAUSE While watching the distant volcano, nearby, you notice a man with wireframe glasses kneeling down and grasping a handful of black, moist dirt. PAUSE He lifts his glasses and inspects the dirt carefully, and as he does, a wave of understanding washes over you. PAUSE The volcano is Mother Nature’s tool for renewal, tearing down the old landscape and then rebuilding it with rich and fertile ground for more flowers, trees, plants and beauty. A forest of colors and shapes and scents To dazzle your sleeping mind. PAUSE… If you could let your imagination roam, Let it build a realm from scratch, Who would live and breathe and love there? What would grow and thrive? PAUSE… Start with what you see on the ground, What sprawls around your feet. Picture a bed of lush green grass, Deep purple flowers everywhere. PAUSE… Between the flowers, chipmunks dart, Chasing each other up trees and down. Small birds the color of green apples, Watch from high above. PAUSE… The birds sing and chirp in upbeat tones, As they jump from branch to branch. Every now and then, a brave one swoops, Finding a new tree to call its own. PAUSE… Relax into the beauty of this place, hear the birds speak to your heart. Pull the sweet air into your lungs as you settle deeper into sleep. LONG PAUSE… The trees in the place are massive, So high the tops can’t be seen. The light must trickle through them, Making bright patterns down below. PAUSE… They stand like tall protectors, Guarding all in their midst. Their leaves fill the air with rich freshness, And their trunks give the insects homes. PAUSE… So many creatures fill this place, It’s hard to know where to look. The flourishing forest teems with life, Yet peaceful silence covers all. PAUSE… Anything seems possible here, A world of dewy, green magic. Let your spirit loose to explore the woodland, Flitting along with the butterflies. PAUSE… Inhale and feel the enchantment within, filling you with hope and fancy. Exhale and see what else you can discover, hiding in mossy depths. PAUSE… Kindness and patience rush toward you, Lifting you up like the birds. You giggle as you realize your soul has grown wings, And it carries you up toward the skies. To be in mindful awareness of your thoughts and your body. To let your breath relax you for a night of deep rest. And to shift your attention onto all the things that make you feel good rather than on those that darken your mood, as you ease into sleep. Let’s begin by settling into a comfortable position, Closing your eyes and taking your first deep breath in. Let your belly expand as far as it can with all that oxygen, And release your breath out through your nose. Take another deep breath in, Filling your belly with just a little bit more air than before, And when you can’t breathe in anymore, Exhale it all out. And one last deep breath in, Imagining the air coming in cleansing your body, cleansing your mind, And letting it all go as you breathe out. Now bring your breathing back to its normal rhythm. And just take a moment to feel into your body. Noticing it rise and fall with the motion of your breath. Noticing if you feel any lightness from increased oxygen. Noticing if you have any kinks or tension you need to release. PAUSE… Bring your awareness to your breath. Notice how good it feels to breathe in and out, How the air can make your body tingle ever so softly with life, How the rise and fall of your chest creates a relaxing rhythm for your body, How each breath in is a renewing moment. And say a silent thank you to your body for doing this work for you as you relax it deeper into your bed. PAUSE… You may notice thoughts coming up. And if they do, imagine that any of those thoughts or emotions that are heavy with stress or worry or fear begin to dissolve with every breath out, Vanishing into the space around you, And releasing their hold on you. Watch them dissolve as you breathe them out. PAUSE... Now notice if there are any thoughts or emotions that come up that make you feel good. Imagine yourself placing them into a beautiful basket beside you. Maybe you see yourself placing thoughts about your healthy body in the basket, Or the work you do, The people who bring joy to your life, Or even the events that took place today that brought a smile to your heart. Place them in that basket and imagine a smile widening across your face as you do. PAUSE… Feel the calm happiness inside of you as you look at your basket. This pile of goodness that warms your heart and reminds you of all the blessings in your life. Breathe them in, And surrender deeper into your bed, deeper into the arms of sleep. PAUSE… This moment is a gift. No matter what happened today, No matter what tomorrow brings. This moment right now, this breath, is a miracle. And you are pure magic, A being of love and light who is flooded with blessings. So relax and surrender to the night, As you swim in the goodness of it all. So settle into your bed, positioning yourself as comfortably as you can on your back. Take a moment to cover yourself in your blankets if you like, And then allow yourself to simply lay still for a few moments, As your attention shifts from all the outside noise of the day, To the calm inside your breath. PAUSE… Feel your body relaxing further with every breath, As the warmth of your soft bed pulls you in deeper, Deeper, Deeper. PAUSE… Now slowly bring your attention to your arms, And slowly extend and stretch them in any direction that feels comfortable for you. Stretching them long as you feel your muscles expand, holding it for just a moment. And then release the stretch, Allowing your arms to settle deeper into comfort. PAUSE… Now bring your attention to your neck, And slowly drop your head to one side, feeling the stretch on the side of your neck as you do. Breathe into the stretch, staying with the pull of the muscles, And release. Drop your head to the other side, stretching the other side of your neck, Imagine that muscle stretching and relieving any pain or tension it does, And then release, Bringing your head and your neck back into a deeply relaxed and comfortable position. PAUSE… Now let your attention fall upon your face, As you open your mouth wide, stretching out the muscles in your cheeks, mouth and forehead. Keep expanding the stretch, feeling the muscles release the weight of the day, And then release, Relaxing your forehead, face, cheeks and mouth, As they melt into your pillow. PAUSE… Now for the last stretch, reach your hands up above your head and stretch your legs out as far as you can, Pointing your toes and opening your fingers, Imagining your body being pulled from the top and bottom as your body expands. Feel the stretch align your spine, And release any pieces of stress or tension stored in your body. And release, Feeling the rush of calmness in your body, As you allow yourself to now settle into your favorite sleeping position. PAUSE… Breathe. If there’s any more tension or pain in your body, Breathe it out through your exhale. And then surrender further into the comfort of your bed. Breathe and release. Breathe and relax. LONG PAUSE Take another breath and turn off all the thoughts and chatter of the day until there is quiet in your mind. LONG PAUSE If a stray thought makes its way into your consciousness, thank it, and let it slide away. LONG PAUSE Take another long, deep breath and just become aware– aware of relaxing, aware of the present, aware of feeling at peace. LONG PAUSE Now, see before you a large, beautiful snowflake slowly twirling in the air. PAUSE The snowflake looks like a carved crystal, with intricate designs all through it. PAUSE As you gaze at the snowflake, you see shapes and patterns delicately connecting with each other. PAUSE There are slender crescent moons, solid pyramids, delicate columns powerful pentagons and hexagons, all connecting with each other. PAUSE After a few minutes, the snowflake begins to move, like it’s leading you on a journey, so you follow. PAUSE As you follow the snowflake, you notice that other snowflakes join you on your journey. PAUSE The other snowflakes are smaller than the lead flake but share many amazing crystalline patterns such as arcs, and spikes and other geometric shapes. PAUSE The smaller snowflakes dance in circles and flit up and down all while you comfortably follow the large snowflake. PAUSE Now, give yourself permission to imagine that, as you walk, warm clothes magically adorn your body, and a pair of socks and boots covers your feet PAUSE And while walking, you see all the snowflakes coming together like a magnificent winter snowfall, with you in the center, warm and comfortable. PAUSE As you stroll in the snow, you notice that it’s fresh snow, pure white and untouched, pristine in its beauty and stillness. PAUSE The snow gently crackles and pops beneath your boots, and you see that your boots leave the only prints in a sea of opaque white. PAUSE The snowfall pauses, and you get a sense of where you are, you’re somewhere in a large park– a large park in a city. PAUSE Looking up, you can see the silhouettes of tall buildings beyond the boundary of the park, and their shapes are familiar: you’re in Central Park in New York City. PAUSE Yet, unlike most days, when the park is bustling with children playing, adults reading, and couples walking, today, there is stillness– just you and a magical snowfall. PAUSE You stop at a bench, and brush off the caked snow so you can sit and take in the enchantment all around you. PAUSE Naked trees bare their branches, with piles of snow mounting on them. PAUSE The snow tests the branches to see how long they’ll hold, before giving way and letting the snow tumble to the ground. PAUSE Other tree branches sport delicate icicles, silvery spindles suspended from their tips. PAUSE The snow sits still and undisturbed, a silent beacon of peace fanning out for acres and acres. PAUSE While lost in the meditative calm, you notice the large snowflake has reappeared, now dangling and twirling in front of you– letting you know it’s time to leave. PAUSE You gather yourself and follow the snowflake. Gradually, the snow gives way to your bedroom floor, and the warm clothes dissolve into sheets of your bed. Just as we live our lives day by day, We go after what we want the same way. PAUSE… The key is just to keep moving, To pedal with all of your might. Keep those feet in steady motion, And the larger aim clearly in sight. PAUSE… Though your legs will regularly complain, And the sweat will roll right in your eyes. If you give in to the voice that wants you to quit, The prize you seek soon evaporates. LONG PAUSE… You’ll have to steer around the bumps, And veer away from things in your path. Sometimes there’ll be a detour, Or a shutdown you can’t bypass. PAUSE… Some days the wind blows hard and long, Directly in your face. Other days the sun zaps all your strength, Making you think you can’t go on. PAUSE… Angry clouds may threaten you, Promising to drench your plans. And tiny bugs dart up your nose, Making breath even harder to come by. PAUSE… But all of this is par for the course. It comes with the decision to ride. And nothing you’ll meet along the way, Is a reason to change your mind. PAUSE… The best part is when you hit your stride, When you cruise through the curves like a pro. When you suddenly feel like you could ride forever, And you finally know what’s so. PAUSE… You won’t feel like that indefinitely; Fatigue will certainly return. But for a little while, you’ll be in the flow, Body and mind like one brilliant machine. PAUSE… That’s when your goals start to feel manageable, Like something you can easily achieve. And even if your confidence fades a bit, You finally know what you can achieve. PAUSE… Once you reach the top of a hill, No matter how many remain, Your spirit decides you have it in you, That you can do it all over again. PAUSE… Just take a breath and listen to spirit, To know that you’re plugged into truth. Instead of dismissing what she tells you, Start planning to take that next hill. PAUSE… And just like bike riding always returns, No matter how long you’ve been away, Your dreams don’t ever give up on you, Always shining when you look their way. PAUSE… So what route will you take to your dreams? How far must you ride to get there? How clear and compelling is your vision, Dream big so you can be aware. PAUSE… For the you who finishes the journey, Will be different than the one you know now. You’ll have struggled and learned and proven yourself, Fighting the odds to see your way through. PAUSE… If your mind starts to ask questions, If it suddenly makes you have doubts, Gently remind it your feet are in charge, That they’ll decide if you set out. PAUSE… Your mind so often fool you, And steer you away from what’s best, You can rely on muscle memory, To guide you along your quest. PAUSE… Your mind will join in for the ride, As soon as your body starts moving. It just needs the push from your feet, To launch you toward all of your yearnings. LONG PAUSE Breathe again, feeling the peace and comfort spreading through you along with a wonderful, warm feeling of love. LONG PAUSE Continue breathing until you naturally find a gently rhythm that allows the peace, comfort and love to flow through you with ease. LONG PAUSE With your next exhale, imagine standing before a majestic Buddhist temple tucked high in the mountaintops. PAUSE The temple is red with touches of white, and its pagoda-like tiers are breathtaking and lift like wings to the azure sky above. PAUSE As you gaze at the temple, you notice it rests on a secure rectangular platform. PAUSE Closing your eyes, you reach out and touch the wooden platform, and as you do, images of nature flood you. PAUSE In your mind’s eye, The elements shoot up and stand guard around you, and plants and flowers sprawl out like a tapestry. PAUSE As your fingers run over the platform, you feel peacefully grounded in all that is Mother Earth. PAUSE A breeze with a hint of coolness catches in your hair, and you open your eyes to see a dome-shaped entrance to the temple. PAUSE Gently, you run your hand over it, letting a wave of love and joy ripple through you. PAUSE You take a breath, and center yourself, just as a group of monks enter the temple. PAUSE A young monk notices you, flashes a quick smile that spans his whole face, and nods, a clue to follow him into the temple. PAUSE As you enter, you are enveloped in a river of peace that gently streams through you. PAUSE You give yourself a moment just to breathe as you take in the aura of the temple. PAUSE As you look around the temple, you notice the beautiful burgundy-colored robes draped over the monks’ sun-colored shirts. PAUSE Some of the monks sit on gold and red pillows that dot the floor; there is one left just for you. PAUSE With ease and comfort, you sit on the pillow, watching the monks prepare for meditation. PAUSE One monk lights dozens of oil lamps With corners that bend upward like a sail blown by the wind. PAUSE The room shimmers in the light, while another monk lights some incense. PAUSE The aroma permeates the air – scents of wood and herbs deepen your relaxation as you comfortably breathe them in. PAUSE Then, the monks sit quietly on the pillows and begin chanting, “Om Mani Padme Hum.” “Om Mani Padme Hum.” PAUSE The words gently reverberate in the air, and as the chant envelopes you, there’s a sense of weightless to your body. PAUSE After a few moments, the words gently tumble off your tongue: “Om Mani Padme Hum.” PAUSE And with each word you chant, it’s as if you’re being lifted to the heavens, levitating in peace and divine freedom. PAUSE After a while, the chanting stops, and prayerful energy enters the space. PAUSE In this time and space, you find your own prayer– a prayer of peace, love, and gratitude. PAUSE And with each word of your prayer, you know you are changed. you are now a beacon of peace, love, and gratitude. PAUSE… If you’re closing your eyes on a painful day, Reeling from someone’s thoughtless acts, You can find relief and heal your wounds, As you allow yourself to relax. PAUSE… The first step is to clear your mind, To soothe it into silence. Allow your body to unwind as well, Prepare yourself for your own guidance. PAUSE… For as much as others’ actions can sting, And as much as you may long to sting back. You know that’s not the answer, Nothing good comes from going on the attack. PAUSE… Instead, search your heart for forgiveness, And all the compassion you can muster. For those who lash out at others, Usually hide pain in their bluster. PAUSE… Take a breath and remember who YOU are, a kind spirit inside and out. Exhale that breathe and release your hurt, your pain, your doubt. LONG PAUSE… If we lose our anger along the way, If we lose our fear and worry, We end up stronger, better selves, And life’s lines become less blurry. PAUSE… We rarely know another’s truth, The reason one lashes out. And even if we learn the story, It’s not ours to speak about. PAUSE… Instead, we must take what we see, And meld it with what we know. We make sense of pain from the inside out, Finding our reward in how much we grow. PAUSE… Inhale that sweet forgiveness, the mercy you show yourself and others. Exhale the comfort of your humanity, send it to your sisters and brothers. LONG PAUSE… Imagine the power of this small step, The transformation it might cause. Then imagine multitudes doing the same, The wave of energy that it draws. PAUSE… Our intentions can turn bad to good, Can turn suffering into peace. When we keep ourselves from striking back, Our vibration will increase. PAUSE… Though it may seem you’re often on your own, That fear is just a perception. In fact, you’re linked to everything, You belong without exception. PAUSE… To understand this bond is key, Knowledge that others can miss. But now that you know what you know, There’s nothing keeping you from bliss. PAUSE… It’s no secret pain is a lesson, An arrow pointing to what we must face. And when others turn those arrows on you, The very best response is grace. PAUSE… In this way, you can teach them, As you teach yourself. Your gift to you is a gift to them, Even more powerful in its stealth. PAUSE… While there’s no promise tomorrow will be easy, No assurance that others will be kind. You’ll step into your day with new confidence, Knowing your energies are aligned. PAUSE And the neck has the job, Of supporting the head, So you make sure the pillow, Is positioned right in your bed. PAUSE And you imagine your neck, Softening like jello, And it feels so peaceful, So relaxing and mellow.
