Coming into the offseason the Seahawks faced questions about improving their run defense and whether or not they would stick with Geno Smith or pursue a quarterback with their early draft pick. Smith's contract paired with Drew Lock's return suggests that the most likely outcome is to continue to find pieces to win with Geno. Being in a similar situation didn't stop them from pursuing a quarterback in 2012. However, going for top prospect on defense, bolstering the offensive line and getting another offensive weapon helps set a more focused plan to compete in relatively weak conference in 2023. We go through some scenarios regarding how the Seahawks could approach the draft and talk about why the team is putting in the effort to scout some of the top quarterbacks in the class. Adam is certain that Anthony Richardson would need multiple seasons to develop into a potential quarterback. Similarly, Trey Lance is trying to work back into the starting lineup in Santa Clara, but he'll have to get reps over Sam Darnold if Brock Purdy isn't going to be ready for the 2023 season. In the second half of the show, we talk about some of the NFL's latest rule changes and one rule they opted to remain unchanged. Initial reports had Geno Smith earning $52 million in the first year of his deal reached this past week. It turns out that those numbers were structured intentionally to make the deal sound much bigger. Once the details were announced, it turns out to be a very team-friendly deal for Seattle and a deal that could reward Smith if he continues to play at the level from the 2022 season. Free agency kicks off this week and we talk about why not to expect the Seahawks to make a big splash. The areas that would offer them the greatest opportunity for improvement aren't positions that cost a lot in free agency if you stay away from the biggest names. We discuss some linebacker and defensive line targets on defense as well as a familiar name at cornerback. On the offensive side, center and guard are a need after Austin Blythe retired and Gabe Jackson was released. Plus, they could use a veteran wide receiver as long as they stay away from the biggest names who will command $10 million or more per season. In the second half of the show, we talk about the Carolina Panthers trade up to the top spot in the draft and how that could impact the Seahawks. The Seattle Seahawks closed out their 2022 campaign with a playoff loss, and they gave us a glimmer of hope that they could move on to the next round. With a 17-16 lead coming out of the first half, the Seahawks fumbled away a chance to match the 49ers first touchdown of the second half. With the defense unable to make a stop after halftime, the offense never had a chance. One bit of good news, was that this game demonstrated a major area of need for the Seahawks to address this offseason.

The 2022 regular season has come to a conclusion and Pete Carroll has finished the year with another winning record. Not only that, he swept both Kliff Kingsbury and Sean McVay on his way to a 9-8 season with Geno Smith under center. Now Kingsbury has been cast out of Arizona and reports are that McVay could be done in LA. That could leave us with just one NFC West Frat Boy remaining of the trio. In the beginning of this season, we thought how nice it would be to have a season without expectations. A relatively stress free season where we can look ahead to the future and growth of a draft class we had high expectations for. Partway through the season, the record scratched and suddenly it looked like our team could actually make the playoffs. It comes down to the final week against a division rival to see if the Seahawks can close the season with a winning record. The Seahawks got out to an early lead against the New York Jets and never looked back. The Jets secondary, however, were able to shut down DK Metcalf limiting him to just three yards on the day. But it was Ken Walker and DeeJay Dallas combining for more than 200 yards that propelled the offense. Even though the defense gave up a fair share of explosive plays, they were able to make stops when necessary and limit the Jets to just two field goals. The win puts the Seahawks in position to take the seventh seed in the playoffs next week, but they're going to need some help. Tune in as we talk about the potential playoff scenarios if all goes to plan next week.

Tune in to hear from DK Metcalf on today's matchup against a talented pair of cornerbacks, including former Seahawks corner D.J. Reed. Sauce Gardner was a former college teammate of Coby Bryant and the rookie talked about his expectations of Gardner as a pro. This week on PNW Prop Stars, Adam rifles in his picks from the middle of an atmospheric river from an undisclosed location in Eastern Oregon. All we want for Christmas is for yards to matter instead of the final score. The Seahawks defense was able to hold Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to fewer than 300 yards on Saturday. But, on a day where the defense had some success (apart from creating turnovers) the offense wasn't effective enough to produce more than 10 points. Even with the loss, Seattle was helped by several other teams who stumbled this week and allowed them to stay in the playoff picture. Pro Bowl selections were announced this week and Geno Smith was among the top quarterbacks selected. Tariq Woolen was the only rookie on the team to be selected and was joined on defense by safety Quandre Diggs. Jason Myers also made the team. With the San Francisco 49ers win and losses by both the Cardinals and Rams, Arizona and LA are the only teams in competition for the cellar in the division. Although many Seahawks fans would have been happy to accept a top two finish in the division, an emotional loss to the 49ers and a struggling defense has some fans looking ahead to a post-Pete Carroll future. But wouldn't this outcome have been considered a success six months ago? It's going to be difficult though to stay above .500 with the Kansas City Chiefs as the next opponent on the schedule. However, the Chiefs weakness on defense has been the strength of the Seattle team this season. It has the potential to be a high scoring affair even without Tyler Lockett on the field to help the offense. Can the defensive staff concoct a way to slow down Patrick Mahomes and Travic Kelce though? While we have the Broncos to thank for helping ensure Seattle won't finish below Arizona, it came at the potential expsene of the 2nd overall pick. With three weeks left in the season, it's going to take some serious work by the curse to get us back into that spot.
