Hashem Abedi has been extradited to the UK and charged with murder, attempted murder and conspiring with his older brother, Salman Abedi, to attack Ariana Grande’s concert. Salman was the suicide bomber at the scene, while Hashem was the cowardly brother who stayed behind in Libya. Still Hashem allegedly did take part, by helping to buy bomb-making chemicals and a Nissan Micra car to store the bomb components, amongst other conspiratorial acts. One would think Hashem would be returning to the UK with his tail between his legs, but instead he’s denying all charges related to the May 22, 2017 attack, and claiming he only signed a confession under duress. Indeed, when the judge read out the names of all 22 persons killed when Salman detonated his suicide vest, Hashem sat stone-faced. The Abedi family originally came from Libya before settling in Manchester. Three different ways, three different locations - all spell trouble for kids! First, we go to the UK, where a study on behalf of Action for Children, asked kids what they are most worried about. And, undoubtedly to the surprise of adults who don’t believe kids are aware of it, terrorism came out nearly on top! Homelessness and poverty were the biggest worries for approximately 50% of kids studied, and terrorism came a close second at 49%. Julie Bentley, the CEO of Action for Children, says, “The country is sleepwalking into a crisis in childhood….” And so is the U.S. Next, we go to Canada, where the Palestinian Youth Movement tried to put one over on a Toronto church, by persuading them to host an event for the launch of the Ghassan Kanafani Resistance Arts Scholarship. Though they told the church they don’t promote violence, in fact, Kanafani was the spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who perpetrated the massacre of Lod Airport (now called Ben Gurion) in Israel. Fortunately, a petition to the church stopped the PYM event in the nick of time.Finally, we go to Germany, where the first ISIS bride was convicted of contributing to terrorist activities. Sabine S. converted to Islam and abandoned her two children to go to Syria, where she married an ISIS fighter, ran propaganda blogs and more. Jennifer W., another ISIS bride, who is alleged to have tortured a 5-year-old to death, is going on trial.

If you’re like me, I’m thinking Seattle circa 1998, so grunge, Nirvana and flannel! Alrighty, now for the game part… every time I say mansion that will be a single shot and every time I say Oregon, that’s a double shot. Now that we have the business end out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and the story of the very famous and very very haunted Pittock mansion, so let’s hit it my heathens… Henry Pittock, a London-born newspaper publisher, and his wife Georgiana, met and married in Portland in 1860. Henry went on to become one of the wealthiest men in Oregon society, investing in a variety of industries, including railroads, banking, ranching, and mining. He was also an avid climber and outdoorsman. He helped to found Mazamas climbing club, and became part of the first expedition climb Mount Hood. Georgiana was also an active member of society, becoming involved in many cultural organizations and charities, including the Women’s Union and the Ladies Relief Society. She helped to found the Martha Washington Home, a residence for working women. She was also an enthusiastic gardener and was a founding member of the Portland Rose Society and the Portland Rose Festival. In 1909, the Pittocks decided they wanted to build a home in Portland to retire in. They hired the architect Edward T. Foulkes to design the Pittock Mansion from scratch. The forty-six room mansion was built on a hill overlooking Portland, with a French Renaissance exterior. The inside was uniquely designed, with oak-paneled cabinets, marble floors, a huge central staircase, modern amenities like an elevator and dumbwaiter, and, most strikingly, beautiful views of Mount Hood and the Cascade Mountain Range. Foil lines the inside of the entryway ceiling, a nod to Georgianna’s frugal early years, when she had to save foil from old tea containers.

Madonna’s new music video, “God Control,” is controversial for a good reason: it’s meant to wake us up to the brutality of terrorism and gun violence. But, have we grown too deaf to hear it? Patience Carter, a survivor, of the Pulse Nightclub terror attack has spoken out, calling Madonna “really insensitive” for depicting a massacre.Indeed, images do reflect scenes that bear a striking resemblance to the Pulse tragedy, but that’s the point!The music video begins with a warning, printed on the screen, which reads, "The story you are about to see is very disturbing. It shows graphic scenes of gun violence...But it's happening everyday. The Internal Revenue Service announced on Friday that had begun sending letters to taxpayers who trade virtual currency.The agency warned that digital coin traders may have failed to report their investments properly — and they may owe money to the government as a result. The IRS began sending letters out last week, and expects to canvas more than 10,000 taxpayers by the end of August, it said."Taxpayers should take these letters very seriously by reviewing their tax filings and when appropriate, amend past returns and pay back taxes, interest and penalties," IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a statement.

The question is what could actually cause the United States to fight China. What if China invades and occupies Taiwan, a democratic U.S. partner and arms customer? Would America actually risk World War III? What if China forces its claim to the Senkaku Islands, which the United States considers to belong to Japan? Does that fall within America’s treaty commitments to defend its ally?There’s no guarantee that a U.S. president, especially Trump, would resort to war in either case. But these are among the scenarios war-gamers at the Rand Corporation have studied to see if the United States could prevent China from claiming territory by force. It’s not clear that the U.S. could.Yet the growth of Chinese capabilities represents a big change from about 20 years ago, when President Bill Clinton sent aircraft carriers near the Taiwan Strait to deter Chinese threats against the island. China at the time had been firing missiles toward Taiwan, but its missile arsenal was far less capable and precise. “When that carrier was deployed by President Clinton, the Chinese couldn’t even find it,” Chris Brose, the former staff director for the Senate Armed Services Committee, said at a separate talk at the Aspen forum. “And they’ve spent 25 years not only figuring out how to find systems like that, but how to overwhelm them with very large volumes of precision weapons.”

And since we’ve been talking creepy destinations, I decided to focus on something that I think is creepy as F%$k… DOLLS. So I have two stories, both centered around dolls, and thankfully, I didn’t have to get anywhere near them. But before we dive in, we have some business to attend to. As always, we will be playing our drinking game but remember, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go to. Since dolls creep me the f%$k out, you get to choose your libations, but I ask that you face your fears, so today’s episode I want you to take shots of whatever alcohol you swore you’d never drink again, for me that’s Tequila. That’s right, pull out your college era sweatshirts and down the Jagger again, because these are two places you will never see Nicole’s happy a** at. Right, now for the game part… every time I say doll that’ll be a single shot and every time I say creepy, that’s a double shot. And our first story is one many of us saw way back when on Destination Truth with Josh Gates: Because in the canals of Xochimilco, Mexico, there's an island covered in mutilated and dismembered dolls. The island is said to be haunted by the spirit of a girl who died in the canals, so enter if you dare.Sometimes when people get into a religious sulk they do things like fly planes into buildings or dress their kids in white and drown them in bleach. So, in the grand scheme of wacko theological attention-seeking, when Don Julian was run out of the barrios for preaching to venerate Christ by decorating a secluded island with creepy dolls, he was actually being pretty reasonable.

Summer vacation is supposed to be fun. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel if the tunnel were 500 work e-mails and small talk over sh*tty coffee before going back to your cubicle. Unfortunately, in the Dominican Republic, tourists’ vacations have been shrouded in suffering and death in an extremely bizarre turn of events that no one has any answers for. If you haven’t been seeing the news, numerous American tourists who have visited the Dominican Republic this past year have turned up dead. With nine reported deaths in the DR so far, we’re all just wondering: what is going on?Many of the tourists’ causes of death are still unknown, but they seem to be sort of suspicious. One man was feeling off all day, but went out with his friends like one would do on vacation only to be found dead the next morning. Additionally, a couple was found with fluid in their brain and lungs. “Shark Tank’s” Barbara Corcoran’s brother was among the victims. He died of a heart attack in the DR, though his family says he suffered from a pre-existing heart condition. As of now, officials in both the Dominican Republic and the United States are not suggesting that the deaths are at all connected. But, with that… there are some similarities. Three of the tourists died at the Bahia Principe Resort within days of one another, while two died at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Health inspectors, environmental and epidemiology specialists and police officials are looking into these cases to see if they can attempt to figure out what is going on with all of this.A couple who stayed at Bahia Principe last year actually told CNN that after their stay they became extremely ill, but are luckily still alive. A prevailing theory is that tourists were sickened by insecticides spread through A/C units — if air conditioning ends up being the reason for all of this, it’ll break my heart because it’s my first love. It’s especially interesting to consider given the link to issues with lungs that have been noted in some of the victims.The FBI is also testing minibar samples at the Bahia Principe to determine if the victims might have been sickened by alcohol at the resort.There are no travel warning yet about going to the Dominican Republic… but, the more you know. I’m from the Jersey Shore, so maybe just head down there and go to one of our outlets — there’s no tax on clothes which is honestly more than enough reason to head there in the first place.

Alright, now that we have the business end out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and the Legend of the Myrtle’s plantationThe infamous Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana is widely considered one of the most haunted places in America. Located on 650 acres of land in St. Francisville, the homestead was built in 1796 by General David Bradford. Myrtle Plantation is visited by ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts alike, but just what lies within the walls of this exquisite mansion house, and can it really be the home to a dozen ghosts? The Deep South is well known for its rich history, and being at the centre of the American civil War and the Slave trade makes for some-grizzly tales of old. The Myrtles Plantation was built by General David Bradford,or ‘Whisky Dave’ of the Whiskey Rebellion, and this stunning mansion has seen its own share of horror over the years. Bradford was forced to flee from President George Washington’s army in 1794, because of his leadership role in the Whisky Rebellion. And when General Bradford arrived in Louisiana he obtained a Spanish land grant of roughly 650 acres. A wealthy judge and businessman from Washington County, Pennsylvania, Bradford showed interest in the area before the conclusion of the unsuccessful Whisky Rebellion forced him to settle there.
