What good is the removal of your eating disorder, high blood pressure, cancer, osteoporosis, or heart condition if you die apart from the promised resurrection of the flesh and life everlasting?

"Jesus by His Word is accomplishing a wholesale, complete transformation of you" Trinity 6 2021
11. July 2021 Trinity 6 Matthew 5:17-26 “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Rather than you find religion that suits your heart, Jesus finds you and gives you a new heart. He reveals to you the known God, who opens Himself up to you in keeping His promises. The Father has been working by the Law and Prophets, shaking heaven and earth, to bring you and all His elect into faith in Jesus Christ. This faith lives, moves, and its being in Jesus Christ crucified for the forgiveness of sins. This faith lives in Divine Service, where God gives Himself for you and your salvation. This faith doesn’t shy away from what God has to say, letting His Word have its way with you day-by-day. This faith doesn’t seek its own righteousness but trusts in the righteousness of Christ given in the forgiveness of sins. This faith doesn’t chose sides or join teams but is gathered together in Holy Baptism and fed together in Christ’s body and blood. Your righteousness does exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees because it’s daily given to you in Christ Jesus’s forgiveness.

"Jesus is preserving you and all his 'fish' in His Word" - Trinity 5 2021
4. July 2021 Trinity 5 Luke 5:1-11 Day by day Jesus is preaching and teaching His Word. He is casting the net of His Gospel into this world. He’s drawing drowning people into His Church. He is joining them to Himself in Holy Baptism. He is forgiving you and all believers in His absolution. He is strengthening and nourishing young and old with His body and blood under bread and wine. He is preserving you and all his “fish” in His Word until the final day. And when that last day comes, He will have gathered you and all those who believe into His heaven, eternally safe and secure eternally.

"There’s a problem with the Great Supper of Lamb" Trinity 2 2021
Jesus will have you at His feast. You are forgiven for all your unending excuses on what or why you don’t think this feast is for you. He’ll move heaven and earth if necessary to get you through those doors and into this sanctuary to receive the Great Supper of the Lamb. The invitation cries out over and over, “Come unto Me!” And if you finally come, He’s going to find all those who will receive it. Nobody is excluded. All the social outcasts, screwed up oddballs, ex-cons—you name them—Jesus keeps inviting until His feast is full. It’s not all that impressive or spectacular, at least not until the Last Day, when you and all the dead are raised, and your sleepy eyes open to see the Lamb on His throne, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. You’ll feast and sing and tell stories and rejoice in the same way you always have but just couldn’t see.

"Only Jesus can save him from his consumed consumer life" Trinity 1 2021
06. June 2021 Trinity 1 Luke 16:19-31 It starts and ends with the alpha and the omega Jesus. No one lives in faithful service and self-giving love apart from first and always received the faithful and self-sacrificing love of Christ crucified. Receive Jesus for your forgiveness and He’ll work love in you for neighbor by His Spirit. You don’t need to go inspecting your life for love and charity to prove your faith. Rather remain in His Word and Baptism and Supper, the gifts that give faith and He’ll do all the loving for and through you.
