On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals, as it was another comeback win with Washington breaking the tie in the third, but the Panthers responding with three unanswered. It was a high event, high scoring period in the first with four goals combined, while the second provided zero. Panthers power play looked a lot better than they did on Saturday night, and got one on the board (Reinhart), and one just a second after one expired and it was the goal that had the Panthers back in the game, thanks to Brad Marchand. The Panthers top line forecheck was a major story in the game as the Luostarinen-Lundell-Reinhart line were a force on whoever they matched up with on the evening, and it set up the game-winning goal to defenseman Aaron Ekblad, and the Cats never looked back. Panthers were able to fight off a Tom Wilson's attempt at a hat trick, including a big stop by Sergei Bobrovsky with the glove while the Capitals were short handed off the rush. It's a regulation win that keeps the Panthers inside of the playoff race in the eastern conference and a stretch of five games in nine nights. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Kassi Coviello(@Kassi_Coviello) of Chick in The Stands to discuss the Panthers 4-2 loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night where the Panthers were able to get 11 power play opportunities as the Bolts ended up going to the penalty box more often after a game with a bunch of post whistle scrums. Florida was able to get one of their opportunities to convert, but not before the Bolts scored first short handed to tie the game at one. The power play also had a bunch of mixing and matching due to some of the players on the top unit also going to the box for coincidental minor penalties, so Florida was working with different personnel all evening long. Florida also were also giving up on the rush due to either errant passes or mistiming pinches, which had got them behind as Tampa Bay scored right before the first period ended. The two also discuss the comparisons between the Panthers before and after the holiday break, the results have been hit and miss, and not necessarily a curation equaling causation. However, the Panthers are currently in a stretch of five games in nine nights where there will only be more than one day off before the Winter Classic on Friday. Forward Matthew Tkachuk stepped on the ice for the first time in a practice setting in a yellow non-contact jersey as he approaches his target date of late December, early January from his offseason surgery of a sports hernia and torn adductor muscle. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here with Jacob Winans (@JakeW_8) to discuss the Panthers 5-2 comeback win, where the Panthers looked lifeless after the first 40 minutes only registering 8 SOG's. The change for the Panthers was switching up the wingers in the middle six (Carter Verhaeghe and AJ Greer) and Head Coach Paul Maurice went on a full rant during a TV timeout. The Panthers were on it from the beginning of the third period where once they got the first goal from Niko Mikkola after a save from Freddie Anderson on Eetu Luostarinen seconds before, the floodgates opened. Before we knew it, the Panthers went from down two goals to up two midway through the third period. It was five different goal scorers for the Panthers that were able to pile it on while registering 14 shots in the third period. Florida were faster to puck retrievals while the Hurricanes were standing still in their own end, and that left Andersen out to dry as he was under siege. The Panthers did it a second time where they came back from multiple goals against the Hurricanes, the Panthers have shown to have a psychological edge, and it showed with Brad Marchand being a leader on a night like tonight. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers weekend back-to-back where they made history with coming back from down 3-0 with less than 10 minutes left in the third period to force overtime, and then getting the win in the shootout to get the two points to temporarily have them in a pl ayoff spot. It was always going to be difficult to follow that up the next day against a rested St. Louis Blues team, but it was still a one goal game entering the third period despite only one great period. The game fell apart more than midway through the third, and losing of board battles in their zone put the game out of reach. The Cats are 1-3-0 on the second night of a back-to-back, but it's necessary to come out with more points in a tight eastern conference where getting half the points could eventually hurt a tired Panthers team. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) and Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) broke down the Panthers' 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings, where the Panthers found themselves in a bit of a struggle keeping up with the Kings speed in their first game back from their long road trip. Luckily, only one goal against after one had the Panthers in striking distance, and they began to pounce in the second, with two goals in under five minutes, one on the power play with Anton Lundell parked around the net to deflect the puck past Anton Forsberg, and once again crashing the net with Carter Verhaeghe converting for his ninth goal in his last 11 games. Florida added some insurance quickly, 10 seconds into the third when Brad Marchand set up Sam Bennett off a Kings turnover that snuck in the short side to give them a two-goal lead. The only other score that LA was able to get was off of an odd deflection in an attempt to clear, off a draw, Gustav Forsling hit the puck off the shinguard of Kevin Fiala and got past Daniil Tarasov a quarter of the way through the final period. The Panthers survived a late push by the Kings when they went on the power play with less than 3 minutes left, and only gave up one shot on net while they pulled the goaltender and brought on the extra attacker. Despite giving up a PPG, their unit is still on an incredible run killing 29 of their last 31 penalties. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jackson Holzer(@JacksonH_52) to break down the Panthers 5-2 road win over the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Cats finished off the road trip getting six out of a possible eight points. Florida was able to get two goals quickly in less than four minutes after the Bolts put on some early pressure in the Cats zone. They owned three-fourths of the shot share in period number one, but no goals came out of it. Sam Reinhart (short handed) and Anton Lundell were able to capitalized on their chances off the rush to put it away early. Florida completely flipped the ice, especially when they got a power play early in the second, where Seth Jones got fed over and over again. However, their third did not come until later on in the period where the Cats had quick breakout, and off a give-n-go, Carter Verhaeghe set up Brad Marchand as he got past the Bolts defense and broke it open. Tampa was able to cut the Panthers lead to three minutes after Reinhart scored on the PP, and then again in the third where Jake Guentzel was parked right at the net front, Florida challenged and was unsuccessful. They were able to kill the penalty for delay of game, and it was the PK that has been the story all month, going 26 of 27 in December, and scoring twice short handed. Sergei Bobrovsky stood tall in the first making a series of saves on high quality chances from Nikita Kucherov and Anthony Cirelli which set the tone for his night in net, while Uvis Balinskis had two primary assists. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers' 4-0 shutout win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night for their first road shutout in Dallas since the 2011 season. Florida gave up 15 shots and kept Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson without. single shot on the even, but the key to the game was the ability to not allow quality chances on Dallas' 40% home power play, while getting multiple odd man short handed chances, including one that drew a penalty and then resulting in a power play goal before the end of the second period. Anton Lundell and Sam Reinhart hit the highlight reel on two of Florida's goals on the evening, where there was not a lot of space, as it was a franchise low for a shot total in a period to start a game in franchise history (four total between both teams). Sergei Bobrovsky got his 52nd shutout of his career, third of the season. The Panthers proved once again that they are a team that is marching to the beat of the same drum with their buy in. There's a saying that goes "are you a team or are you a club?" Although over the last few years, fans and media have known what the answer was, they once again proved it with how they stood up for each other during Saturday nights game. Florida finishes their road trip in the Gulf Coast as they take on the Lightning for the second game of their season series, where the last time the two teams faced, the Cats came out flat. Both teams have identical records since the last time they met: Tampa 9-5-1, Florida is 7-5-1, and both teams are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games, so a big game on tap on Monday night. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers' 6-2 loss to the league-best Colorado Avalanche, where the cards were stacked against the Panthers before the game even started. With the Cats being on a second end of a back-to-back, Colorado coming off a loss from the last game of their road trip, and Florida dealing with injuries, it was the definition of a scheduled loss on the calendar where the Avs scored not even two minutes into the game thanks to their speed, although the Cats tied it up minutes later thanks to Noah Gregor, the goals off the rush did not stop, four of their six goals were due to quick transition opportunities. Down one going into the second, there was hope that the Panthers maybe could have tilted the ice back in their direction even though they gave up 20 shots on goal, but within the first seven minutes of the second, Colorado put those hopes to bed they knocked in two more, and it became quite the uphill climb. Florida's defense had to have played tight in their own end, but when the defense consistently misses on pinches and the opponent is able to get the puck of their stick quick, that can lead to leaving the goaltender (Tarasov) left to dry as they couldn't be comfortable in their own third of the ice. It could have gotten worse as a goal was taken off the board on an Avs PP as the second period was winding down. The Panthers also had a goal taken off the board as league initiated review determined that Eetu Luostarinen kicked the puck into the net in attempt to hit the breaks at the net front, but the game was already decided before then, when it rains, it pours. The guys give their three duds of the game, when they knew the game was lost, and chat about Saturday's game in the Lone Star State as it won't get easier as the Dallas Stars just had their 11-game point streak snapped on Thursday and one their superstar players Jason Robertson has been on a heater as of late and making a case of the USA Olympic team. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Alex Lopez(@CF3234) from Panther Pourri to break down the Cats 4-3 OT win over the Utah Mammoth to start off their road trip with two regulation points. It was a slow start as the Panthers did not get their first shot on net until they were short handed, and on two occasions, they had to start the second and third period on the penalty kill. Although they were up 3-1, two of Utah's three goals came on breakaway's due to a missed pinch and a line change that saw Dylan Guenther be ahead of the play, where he converted twice. The last odd man rush that the Cats gave up, provided what was likely the save of the game from Sergei Bobrovsky sliding from left to right to make the stop on his glove side on Clayton Keller. Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe remained hot as Bennett scored twice and Verhaeghe continued his roll since becoming a dad, now five goals in his last four games. Once the third period hit and the Panthers drew a penalty of their own while on the PK, the tide officially turned where they got the first 11 shots in a four minute stretch. They did get another power play in the period and were in the Utah zone the entire time, but despite not scoring, it created the momentum that they needed to eventually convert. The conversion didn't come until less than a minute left when the Cats won a draw in their offensive zone, once the puck was dished to the far side corner, Sam Reinhart threw the puck on net, where a bounced found Anton Lundell parked near the blue paint and baseball swinging it to give them the lead with 52 seconds left. It took a while, but the Panthers were able to break through. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the back-to-back weekend where the Panthers got two wins in two different ways, and they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-6 in OT after being down three goals, in the second period and getting their first win when going into the third period trailing, while also scoring the second latest OT winner in franchise history in a game that they were chasing the entire time. They then followed it with shutting down the New York Islanders by a final of 4-1 where they got up 2-0 and never allowed the Isles to tie it. Two insurance goals in the third helped seal it while the Cats only gave up two SOG's in the third. Carter Verhaeghe stayed hot with a three-goal weekend, Eetu Luostarinen made his return to the lineup after being out due to an in home BBQ accident, and the lineup felt truly balanced again with their ability to roll their lines on the second end of the back-to-back. The bottom six were impactful although the accounting stats may not say so, and the Panthers ability to get their defense activated in the play was another key to four points, and it's now a three-game point streak before hitting the road. In a penalty filled game, the Cats couldn't take advantage, which cost them a point. Predators tied it 53 minutes into the game after a battle at the net front from Ryan O'Reilly. Panthers had a good amount of control in OT and it took Nashville over two minutes to finally get control, and on a transition play, Gustav Forsling slid into Sergei Bobrovsky and Nashville knocked it into a dislodged net to get the OT winner. Luck was on Nashville's side this time around as the Preds lost a game in that fashion just a few weeks ago. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) to break down the Panthers 4-1 loss to Toronto, where it was the Leafs bottom six getting on the board in the first eight minutes of the contest. The same line of Dakota Joshua-Nicholas Roy-Bobby McMann were the ones to convert on the night as they created the first two goals. Already without Carter Verhaeghe due to the birth of his child, the Cats were once again playing catch up as it's another multi-goal deficit, which now they are at the second most across the NHL. Florida was able to cut it to a one-goal game scoring short handed on the Leafs five-forward power play, thanks to Sam Reinhart, who skated in his 800th career game. Florida was unable to create space in the offensive zone, get to the inside and make life on Joseph Woll difficult, and were consistently losing draws on the evening. Panthers continued a push into the third period, but a failed clear from the Gustav Forsling-Aaron Ekblad pair did not allow Sergei Bobrovsky to freeze the puck and Scott Laughton provided the insurance goal to out the game away prior to the Leafs adding another one on the empty net. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) to break down the Panthers 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers as Philadelphia scored four unanswered after the Panthers took a 2-0 lead, including two in the final minute to deny the Panthers a chance at any points. Sam Bennett stayed hot as he got a two assist night, and Carter Verhaeghe with a second consecutive game with a goal after going 13 games without scoring a goal. Florida however struggled to create any more separation, especially on their power play where they had a tough time gaining the blue line. They were able to dodge a couple of Flyers opportunities as they had almost a handful of odd man rushes, but couldn't connect to the net. Florida also couldn't connect on net on their passes cross ice in their offensive zone, and it kept the Flyers within distance. The Flyer goals in this game had one thing in common, getting guys to the net front to create screens and deflections, and the combination of that and Florida losing their board battles cost the Panthers from getting a single point. Now they are on the outside looking in regarding a playoff spot. With thanksgiving being a big barometer, is this an outlier season regarding that? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Langsam of Panther Pourri to break down the Panthers 8-3 win over the Nashvillw Predators, as the Panthers set the tone from the start 11 seconds into the game, and out skated the Predators to shoot-in's, loose pucks around the crease, and scored multiple goals in transition. It was all about the Panthers speed and Nashville was not able to keep up. It's the second straight Monday where the Panthers put up eight goals, but this one might be more impressive, as all the goals came at even strength (one at four-on-four) and the Panthers chased Jusse Saros after scoring the fifth goal. Panthers momentum was not stopped after taking a 2-0 lead, and even though the Predators tied it at two, Florida scored two more before the end of the first. Multiple Panthers had three-point night's as AJ Greer led the way with two goals, now one goal away from a new career high, Carter Verhaeghe broke a 13-game goal drought, and Sam Reinhart stayed hot. Daniil Tarasov was not able to get goal support in his first four starts, but now the Cats have scored 14 in his last two as he got win number two on the season. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night from Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers fell behind less than a minute into the game when Jack Roslovic threw the puck from the half wall and got squeezed by Sergei Bobrovsky, although the Cats tied it six minutes, later, the Oilers responded less than a minute later, and the Cats had to play catch up from there. Down 3-1 at the start of the second period, the Cats controlled play, but could not cut the deficit as Vasily Podkolzin threw a puck off Bobrovsky's should and in. Daniil Tarasov came into the game, and the Panthers had life shortly after, scoring twice in about a three and a half minute span, one on the power and another as the power play ended, but Edmonton was able to hang on after the Cats struggled to keep the puck in the offensive zone when they brought on the extra attacker, and Connor McDavid scoring on a breakaway on the empty net. Edmonton later added another one to make the final score worse than how the game actually played out. It's been a trend lately with the Panthers giving falling behind, but with the offense being up-and-down, goaltending can't afford to get them behind in games. Tarasov will be back in the crease when the Panthers visit the Nashville Predators on the annual dad's trip. Nashville is struggling again after making a big splash in free agency last offseason, but looks like a franchise that's stuck with various decisions looming. Florida took advantage of the Devils not connecting on passing out of their own end, and it was crucial as there were not a lot of stoppages and had to rely on not getting caught in line changes. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 8-5 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It was an offensive outburst from both teams, although the Panthers controlled play from the jump, it was the Canucks who got out to a 2-0 lead, but the Panthers kept pushing as they were able to tie it heading into the seconds, and it was a continuation of the Panthers dominance as they scored five unanswered. There was a stretch where the Cats didn't allow a shot in the first 11 minutes of the game, and even when the Canucks responded to get it to a two goal deficit in the second, the Panthers had a strangle hold where they went a 9 minute stretch without allowed a shot as the Panthers kept winning face-offs and boards battles in the Canucks zone. Panthers went into the third with a lead, but that didn't stop the Canucks from getting two quick ones, but Florida responded less than a minutes later to retake the lead, and the gas was still pressed from then until the end of the game. Florida has 7 different goal scorers, and 16 different point getters, as they set a franchise record for a single game. It was not the type of game where goaltending was friendly as Sergei Bobrovsky gave up 5 goals on 15 shots, but the Panthers pressing offensively helped them get a win in Jeff Petry's 1000th game. There were a lot of firsts on the night regarding goals and points as the Panthers had multiple roster changes with injuries and healthy scratches. Florida had to do it while losing Cole Schwindt to an upper-body injury early in the game and Mackie Samoskevich for a stretch, but the Cats get two regulation points after coming out flat against Tampa Bay the game before. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers' 6-3 victory over the Washington Capitals in game one of a five game homestand, and the Panthers played a game where although early on, the Caps controlled play, Florida had the better of the quality scoring chances, having the Washington defense spread out and making Logan Thompson's life difficult. Panthers did not allow Washington to gain any sort of momentum as they responded 28 seconds later after going down 1-0, also when Washington brought it to a one-goal deficit, the Cats extended their lead back to two just over four minutes later. Washington came in giving up the least amount of 5-on-5 goals, and for the first time all season, Logan Thompson gave up more than three goals in a game. The Panthers defense continued to create opportunities from the previous game as they were quick to get the pucks to the net, including Gustav Forsling's primary assist on Cole Schwindt's goal, and Seth Jones getting only the second goal by a Panthers defensemen this season(both on the power play). Around this time, Sam Reinhart was going on a goal scoring hot streak, and he added two more on the night for eight goals in his last nine games. Brad Marchand got two assists on the night to get point number 1000, and capped it off with Luostarinen's empty net goal, and fitting that his other line mate in Anton Lundell got the other assist. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, where the Panthers were able to pounce in each frame and build a multi-goal lead heading into period number three, although Vegas controlled the game in the final 20 and got it to a one goal game, the Cats were right back at a two-goal lead scoring on the power play. Monday night was all about the defense, not only shutting it down late in the game, but getting point offensively as there a defenseman who got a point in each of the three goals. Donovan Sebrango got his first two career points, and got the primary assist on the first goal by Jesper Boqvist. Florida had eyes on the Golden Knights top players all night they had high quality looks, but the timely saves from Sergei Bobrovsky on Ivan Barbashev helped create a big swing when Brad Marchand scored to make it 2-0 in the second period. Vegas had over a minute of 5-on-3, and the Panthers found a way to keep it at a one goal lead at the time as Gustav Forsling was on the ice the entirety of the Vegas man advantage and the PK is now truly starting to click as they have not given up a PPG in their last three games. Although the Panthers only had one shot on goal to Vegas' 12 in the third, Florida only gave up two in the final five minutes, allowing them to get the two regulation points and wrap up the trip at 2-2-0. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday as the two broke down the Panthers 5-2 road win against the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings controlled play, but the Panthers capitalized on their limited chances in the period and were fortunate to go into the second tied at 2, due to the team giving up a good amount of breakaway opportunities. The Panthers cleaned it up defensively and were able to take the lead after a clean breakout with LA having multiple players down low in the Panthers end, birthday boy Sam Reinhart scored what would end up being the game-winning goal to give the Panthers the lead in the second. The Kings did make a push in the third, but an offensive zone penalty quickly changed that, and although Florida didn't score on their PP, Sergei Bobrovsky came up big to prevent them from tying the game, and they were able to put the game away with a big short-handed goal by Anton Lundell after forcing a turnover at the blue line. Brad Marchand popped two goals as he is currently on a three game goal streak. The Cats ability to win races to the puck and get in on their forecheck allowed them to make life difficult on Anton Forsberg as they got two goals off rebounds, where they only had three going into Thursday's game. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday, as the two broke down the Panthers 7-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The two teams traded breakaway goals, but it's not the type of game that the Panthers should be comfortable playing in as they didn't give themselves an opportunity to set the pace. Although the Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the second period, a third goal of the game for the hat trick for Cutter Gauthier after some frustration from Anton Lundell after a hit went uncalled opened everything up for the Ducks. The frustations for Lundell continued as he went after Olen Zellweger in the third period. Although it was a one-goal game in the third period, the Panthers were gifted two power play opportunities, including a 5-minute major when Leo Carlsson's shoulder hit Evan Rodrigues in the head while Anaheim was on the PP. However, the Panthers shot themselves in the foot with an offensive zone penalty, which they had four of them on the night in the OZ. The Ducks then exploded for three third period goals after that and the game became out of reach from there. The guys discuss their three duds of the game, when they knew the game was lost, and discuss their worry meter with the Panthers playing poorly on the road as they have a 1-5-0 road record so far this season. On today's episode of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers 4-3 SO win over the Dallas Stars, as Brad Marchand made his return to the lineup after missing Tuesday's game due to the death of the daughter of his longtime trainer, JP MacCallum, Selah. With a heavy heart, Marchand got the Cats on the board first and they were once again working as a five-man unit as they were able to roll their lines on Saturday night. Marchand also gave the Cats the win in the shootout as he came in with a burst of speed. The Stars scored twice as the Cats went to the box for a high-stick double minor, but even then they didn't panic as they controlled play. Defenseman Donovan Sebrango made his Cats debut, playing on a pair with Jeff Petry and both performed exceptionally well in Sebrango's debut, and their ability to not give away open ice easily in OT with Dallas getting multiple line changes and the Panthers inability to change was a big moment in the game where they were able to get it to the shootout, where the Cats came out victorious. Great things came in 17's, as the Panthers gave up no more than those amount of shots against in regulation throughout the home stand, and they now sit at first in the NHL at shots against per game, 1.4 shots better than the next best team, which goes to show the Panthers winning formula is present even without key pieces. The Panthers now head on their second road trip of the season, where certain places they've been successful and other places, not so much. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday, as they broke down the Panthers 3-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks in a shootout. The Cats controlled the pace of play, where they got behind the Ducks defense, but stops by Lukas Dostal kept the game scoreless. Although the Panthers had three power play opportunities in the second period, after they gave up a goal short handed, the momentum fully flipped to the Ducks as the Cats committed two more penalties to eventually got down 5-on-3, which Anaheim was able to capitalize. Florida went fro controlling the game to chasing in the blink of an eye, and it took the Panthers a bit to get their feet going as they got one SOG the rest of the second period. The third period was low event, but the Cats cutting the score to one midway through thanks to Anton Lundell had them within striking distance. A great coaching decision to put the extra attacker on after Anaheim iced the puck allowed the Panthers to tie it at two after winning the draw and shot from the blue line was redirected by Sam Reinhart to tie the game at two gave the Panthers at least a point. Florida after all that even had a power play toward the end of OT after having the Ducks pinned in their end, but failure to convert meant this game had to be decided in a shootout, and Dostal shut the door only allowing one goal while Daniil Tarasov allowed two. The Panthers were slow out of the gate, getting five shots on goal in the first period, and the Lundell line getting three of the five shots. Panthers started to control play after the first intermission, but it did not even result in the Panthers getting it to a tie game, where every time they brought it to a one-goal deficit, the Penguins once again separated themselves and went on to lead by two. It was various mistakes their attention to detail and questionable goals against that gave the Panthers a low chance to even force overtime. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday as the two broke down the Panthers 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins in Brad Marchand's return to Boston for the first time since the trade back on March 7th, 2025. It was 16 years to the day that Marchand made his NHL Debut with the Bruins that he was playing in the visiting locker room against his old team. It was emotional as it could've been with TD Garden playing a tribute video during the first tv timeout. Panthers got on the board quickly, 61 seconds in after Brad Marchand drew the first penalty of the game. It was their new look first power play unit with Mackie Samoskevich and Anton Lundell, and they capitalized early. Panthers got to a 2-0 lead early in the second after a face-off draw where Jonah Gadjovich broke the puck free from Mason Lohrei and AJ Greer wasted no time shooting the puck past Jeremy Swayman. A pair of mistakes had the Bruins scoring two goals exactly two minutes apart, and just like that, we had a hockey game. Florida took the lead again midway through the third off a quick rush by Eetu Luostarinen where he fought off a back check and roofed it for his first of the season. Although Boston scored with the extra attacker, Florida just over a minute later took the lead with less than a minute left when Carter Verhaeghe drove up the gut and after his shot hit the post, Bruins Defenseman and South Florida native Andrew Peeke had the puck deflect off his skate and into his own net to prevent the game from going into overtime and giving the Panthers the two points in regulation. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jim Biringer(@JimBiringer) of Full Press NHL to the show as he was in the press box for Thursday night's game as the Panthers lose to the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on the second end of a back-to-back. Florida switched their lines up putting Eetu Luostarinen at the third line center, something we don't see much since Paul Maurice took over. Panthers scored less than two minutes into the game after a beautiful move from Brad Marchand to create a shooting lane, and Evan Rodrigues cleaning it up after the initial save, but the Panthers got nothing more after that. Power play conintued to struggled as they also gave up breakaway chances as New Jersey was coming out of the box on multiple occassions. Daniil Tarasov kept the Panthers in the game, especially having eyes on the Devil's stars throughout the night, although Hughes eventually beat him on the PP and Meier off a redirection, Tarasov stood tall in net. Florida had a chance to get it to a one-goal game when they pulled the extra attacker as Sam Reinhart from the high slot scored with Anton Lundell setting a screen, but after immediately waving off the goal, and the Panthers deciding to challenge, the call on the ice stood. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian, Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The Panthers failed to generate quality offensive chances, and shuffled the forward lines early on. The rush chances against continues to pile up, but Sergei Bobrovsky kept the Panthers in it. One of the changes that did work was reuniting Brad Marchand with Eetu Luostarinen and Anton Lundell, as they were able to cut the deficit to one after falling behind two in the second period. Lundell got assist number 100 in his 300th NHL game. The PK streak to start the season came to an end as Detroit capitalized on a 5-on-3 shortly after Florida was on the PP. The injury situation is only getting worse, as Dmitry Kulikov will be out for five months after receiving surgery on Wednesday morning. The Panthers are going to continue to power through as it'll be a while before anybody comes back, and it starts with a quick turnaround Thursday night in New Jersey. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers' 5-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, where a slow start and lack of jump had the Panthers falling behind in the first period. Although the Panthers tilted the ice from the second period on, Philadelphia was able to capitalize on Panthers mistakes, and the puck ended up in the back of their net. Special teams showed up once again, as they added a short handed goal to the tally, thanks to Sam Reinhart. Sam Bennett gave power play one a boost when he tied the game at two in the third period, and the Panthers went on a stretch where they didn't surrender a shot in 20 minutes of play, but taking penalty while on the power play gave the momentum back to the Flyers and they ended up retaking the lead and pulling away after. Daniil Tarasov made his Panthers debut between the pipes, and he gave the Panthers a solid chance in the game, especially on one penalty kill where the Panthers were in their end for the entirety of the two minutes, but they will need to support him with goals at even strength during his starts.
