On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Florida took full control of the first period where it looked similar to game seven vs. Toronto back in 2025, where the puck was consistently in the Leafs end, and Florida was able to pounce with three goals, them coming in all situations. Even Rodrigues led the way with nine shots in the game, and seven of them coming in the first period. Toronto then had the territorial advantage after the first period, and that's when Sergei Bobrovsky got to work, where he was able to track pucks well from all over the ice. Florida's defense gave very few high danger opportunities, and Bobrovsky was able to clean them up with the lack of rebound chances for Toronto. It's one win out of the Olympic break, and the Panthers have no room for error and getting healthier, can they keep this up as they are right back at it on Friday? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down USA's 2-1 win over Canada in 3-on-3 OT by Florida Native Jack Hughes. where the US in their third straight knockout game were able to take the first lead of the game. The US were in control of the first period, but had a hard time hitting the net, but found a way to score on their first shot of the game by Matt Boldy. The American's all game have been able to collapse around the net preventing second and third chance opportunities on Connor Hellebuyck, and helped when Canada controlled play in the second and third period. Hellebuyck, who has struggled in the Stanley Cup Playoffs made incredible stops, including one with his stick in the third period on Devon Toews to keep it at a 1-1 game at the time, and also stopped two breakaway opportunities on Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini. The Penalty kill was on point once again as they remained perfect, and there was a possibility for it to swing with going down 5-on-3 to Canada, but also had theirs with Panthers Sam Bennett hit Jack Hughes with a high stick in the third period (later negated by a high Stick from Hughes). Hughes then got redemption with getting an overtime winner of his own after his brother Quinn scored an overtime winner back in the Quarterfinals against Sweden. Florida Panthers History was made as Matthew Tkachuk became the first to win a Gold Medal in the same year in which he played for the Florida Panthers. Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett joined Olli Jokinen as players to earn silver while playing for the Panthers, and the three Panther Finns joined a long list of players to win Bronze. Tuomo Ruutu (Finland), Teddy Richards (USA) and Bill Zito (USA) also were part of medal teams despite the medals only going to the players, but more victories to their hockey resumes. Team USA will be flying into Miami on Monday after their Gold Medal victory, so a chance for Matthew Tkachuk to have a similar celebration as when he did in his back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) discusses the confusion throughout the hockey world on the conditions from the Seth Jones trade from last March. It was believed that leading up to Friday morning, that the first round pick that the Panthers packaged to Chicago for Jones was unprotected. However, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli tweeted the order of the NHL Draft lottery, which had Florida at the 10th bets odds to select first overall That made people question whether the pick was top-10 protected, and Seravalli confirmed with multiple sources as well that it is. With the Panthers being plagued with injuries thisw season, there is a silver lining if that ends up being the case ot them picking top 10. This also gives them options on what to either do with the pick? What they do will also depend on where they pick in the draft as a different course of action, whteher it's to stay in NCAA/CHL, or join the big club and attempt to make an impact player right away. This could also help the Panthers search the trade market in the case of trying to get an NHL ready player. Despite 10 players going to the Olympics, the mission will still be to attempt to make the postseason, so despite the great opportunity, the group will feel that they still have a lot to play for, and there's a positive in that as well. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Florida already came into the game without Aaron Ekblad, Brad Marchand, Evan Rodrigues and Tobias Bjornfot out of the lineup, and an NHL Debut made from Panthers D Mikulas Hovorka. Although the Panthers controlled play in the first period, they couldn't get pucks past Andrei Vasilevskiiy, as the Panthers failed to break out of their zone cleanly, and Daniil Tarasov struggled with his rebound control as the Bolts were able to pounce on their second chances, as Tampa Bay got to a 2-0 lead after one. Panthers shot themselves in the foot after some confusion off a face-off where they were not happy with the officials, and then Matthew Tkachuk was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of the first, which the Bolts were able to cash in the second period to put the game out of reach. The demolition continued and in the third period, it turned into fight night at Benchmark international Arena, as multiple players were given misconducts, and two game misconducts for JJ Moser and Gustav Forsling for engaging in a second fight after the first one between Matthew Tkachuk and Brandon Hagel. The injuries only added on the night as Daniil Tarasov looked to have injured himself after making a save on Pontus Holmberg while the Lightning were on a 5-on-3 power play, and could not recover himself to make a second save on Holmberg. Tarasov was slow to get up and was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he limped off into the locker room, and then Sergei Bobrovsky came in relief. Tampa Bay then added one more after the Panthers scored on a five-minute major PP. Florida are now at eight points back with 25 games left, and their playoff chances look low, and with more players on the shelf, it may get worse due to the fact that they'll have 10 players representing them in the Olympic games in Milano Cortina. When they return, it'll only be more miles on them, so will that eventually hurt them more than help? On today's edition of the Locked On Florida Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jackson Holzer(@jholzer52) to break down the Panthers 5-4 shootout win over the Boston Bruins. Despite the win, Florida played a sloppy brand of hockey where they gave up clean lanes to the net that had them blow an early lead. Special teams came to play in the second period, as they got two power play goals and a short handed goal as well. Matthew Tkachuk stole the show int he second period where he got a goal and an assistent on the power play and forced the Bruins to take a penalty that led to a PPG. Florida unfortunately gave the Bruins multiple opportunities to get back in the game going to the box seven times, and Boston was finally able to convert on their sixth to tie it at four, and the two-goal lead evaporated Boston had a chance to end it in regulation, and the Cats had a short handed chance at the end thanks to Sam Reinhart, but Joonas Korpisalo shut it down. Neither team scored in the OT, so it was decided in a shootout, where it went to a fourth round and it was Brad Marchand who got the winner before Sergei Bobrovsky closed it. Bobrovsky got his 450th win of his NHL career on Wednesday. A win is a win, but in the context of the playoff chase, it was a game that the Panthers could not have afforded for it to not be anything other than a regulation win where instead of getting to seven points out of the final wild card spot, they are now eight points with Boston as the last team in. Great news is, the losing streak is over, and there's one game left before the Olympic break and it's against state rival Tampa Bay. The gulf coast has been a great, where they are 9-3 (regular and postseason) at Benchmark international arena under Paul Maurice. The two discuss the announcement of Sam Bennett being named to Team Canada for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, replacing Lighting Center Anthony Cirelli. The announcement also indicates how Bennett's injury that he suffered on Monday against Buffalo is something that will be of short term as the Panthers continue to navigate an extremely difficult season on the injury front. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, where the Panthers got off to a great start, getting the first two goals of the game, and by the time we got to the final five minutes, the Sabres were able to erase the Panthers lead. Sabres were able to get up in transition with connecting on stretch passes out of their own end, which led to the goals. Florida was still able to control play, but one mistake by Sergei Bobrovsky after the aPanthers killed off a penalty had them chasing a game, again. Florida was able to tie it at three on the power play before the end of the second period, and even had a chance to tie the game at four having 1:07 of 5-on-3 time, and not being able to convert after losing multiple draws. Sam Bennett did not play in the final 40 minutes of the game and there was no update postgame, so there is not a single center from the 2025 Stanley Cup team who finished the game on Monday night. The losing streak is now at four, and it leaves the Panthers in a world of trouble with two games left. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday, as the two broke down the Panthers 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues, losing in the final seconds of the third period. Although the Panthers got the first goal of the game, the Blues controlled play from there as they did not have a lead after that. Attention to detail was poor for the Panthers wether it was errant passes, and untimely support that resulted in breakaway opportunities. St. Louis already had a lead going into the second and then a goal that squeaked by Tarasov had the Panthers chasing even more, and that's when the parade to the penalty box for both teams really started. Florida still could not find a way to control play. It was only a stretch of two minutes where Matthew Tkachuk took matters into his own hands back in his home town, as he had a three point night and two straight goals to tie it at four. Florida did not get a shot in the third until eight minutes in the game, and their best chance came when they had a four minute power play where they got nothing on net and were not connecting on passes that resulted in a lot of stops and starts. Eventually the poor play from the Panthers came to bite them where both Matthew Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola went to the box after penalties drawn by Joel Hofer, where Jimmy Snuggerud eventually scored on a one-timer past Daniil Tarasov to give the Blues two points and the Cats could not force overtime. Panthers now eight points behind the final wild card spot, is it the final nail in the coffin for the season? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 4-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth. The Panthers were continuing to play to their game from their recent road trip, but mistakes cost got them chasing the game. It's another game where the fourth line got on the scoresheet, and did so twice after Paul Maurice swapped winger placing Sandis Vilmanis on the fourth line and it immediately paid off. The mammoth then retook the lead after a turnover in their offensive zone while the Panthers defensive paid went for a line change, putting them in a bad spot and not getting set. The fourth line got another score to tie it at two, the Panthers continued to creates chances with multiple layers of their aggressive forecheck, but the chances never resulted in a lead. Panthers went on the PK after Anton Lundell went to the box for retaliating after getting his on the half wall with his head down, but did not come out for the third period. Midway through, it would be Utah to take the lead off of a redirection shot, and not only taking the lead, but taking control after that. Florida had a chance to either even things out after going on the penalty kill or on the power play, but not one, but two embellishment calls were were questionable as Matthew Tkachuk and Evan Rodrigues were victims of it, denying the Panthers from getting a four-on-four on one occassion and going 6-on-4 on the other when they were already down. No question that the officiating played a factor in crunch time. Although Carter Verhaeghe scored to cut the deficit to one after Utah scored on the empty net, it was too little too late as Florida's three-game winning streak came to an end, and they did not get help from the teams ahead of them neither. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the two wins for the Panthers in Minnesota and Chicago, getting four points and completing a perfect road trip. Minnesota has been a great place to play as of late, where they couldn't say that before 2020. Brad Marchand made his return to the lineup and was impactful with a two-goal performance, in a penalty filled game. Florida ended up getting the OT goal to win by a final of 4-3. The Cats then made the short trip to Chicago where they had not won since 2022, and it was a tight game where neither team scored in the first 35 minutes, but the Panthers were buzzing in the game, where they had the ice mostly tiled in their favor. It was the fourth line who broke the ice after a TV timeout, and an unlikely goal scorer in Tobias Bjornfot to give the Panthers the first lead of the game. Although Chicago tied it at one, the Panthers did not panic as they exploded for four goals in the third period. Mackie Samoskevich went down to the fourth line, and it was an opportunity to take advantage of the matchups as he had not scored a goal in 18 games, and ended up with the game-winner after AJ Greer helped open a lane for him on the shoot-in. Florida continued to press on as they blew the Hawks out of the building and Bjornfot added a second one in the final minute for his first two goals in the NHL in five years. Don't look now, but the Florida Panthers are hot again, creeping up to the final wild card spot. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday, as the two recappe the Panthers 2-1 shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets. A low event hockey game where neither team had 20 shots through 60 minutes and only one goal each to show for, needed more than 60 to determine. After an exciting OT period, the Panthers found a way to win in the shootout easily, scoring twice on Connor Hellebuyck while Tarasov slammed the door to give the Cats the two points. The third line gave the Panthers the most opportunities with their speed up the middle for their scoring opportunities, while they and multiple lines kept Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor in check, only surrendering two shots from both of them combined. Matthew Tkachuk got his first point since returning to the Panthers, assisting on Sam Bennett's 18th goal of the season. Although the Panthers surrendered the lead in the third, and the ice was tilted in Winnipeg's direction, they never wavered, as it was Anton Lundell and Sam Reinhart who took care of business in the shootout. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday, as the two discuss the big blow for Seth Jones as he will miss the 2026 Winter Olympic games. This must mean that he is unlikely to return to the Florida Panthers lineup when it is eligible to come off of LTIR on January 27th. There is also an update on Niko Mikkola's health as he missed practice on Wednesday, but what is his status for Thursday night's game in Winnipeg? Brad Marchand returned in a top six sweater in practice, and was on a line that was quite familiar to what Panther fans have seen in the past. The Panthers visit the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, as it has been a fall from grace for them after winning the Presidents' Trophy just last year and after barely making it out of the first round, they are now the third worst record in the NHL. Their problems got exposed even more when star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was out after getting a procedure done, where the Jets went on an 11-game losing streak. The Panthers will be looking for their first win at the Canada Life Centre since the 2022 season on Thursday night. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers' 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Monday night, where it was the much anticipated return of Matthew Tkachuk. Both teams came out of the first intermission scoreless, and within seven minutes of the second period, the Panthers found themselves down three goals, due to poor coverage around their net, whether it was losing board battles, caught changes and late on backchecks. The Panther got it to a two-goal deficit early in the third, but didn't add more to the scoring, but the highlight of the game was a goalie fight between Alex Nedeljkovic and Sergei Bobrovsky as Nedeljkovic went after Evan Rodrigues after hitting Vincent Desharnais and that caused Bobrovsky to leave his own crease to participate in the first goalie fight in six years, and the first Florida Panthers involved in a goalie fight since 1997. The Panthers lost Niko Mikkola toward the end of the second period, which means the Panthers are even thinner on their blue line already without Seth Jones. What will this mean if he's out long term? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night, bouncing back after a poor performance in Carolina the night before. Paul Maurice went one-by-one on the Panthers bench to thank them for bouncing back, and one of the many examples of the culture being in a great place. The Panthers made the move to send F Noah Gregor to the AHL after clearing waivers, and after Matthew Tkachuk was seen skating on a line with Evan Rodrigues and Mackie Samoskevich, it sets up a return for Matthew Tkachuk to the lineup, which he and Paul Maurice later confirmed that he will be in the lineup. Brad Marchand skated, but will remain out of the lineup. The Panthers will need to make a corresponding move to open up the cap space for Tkachuk to return to the lineup. After 11 months of pain going through his torn adductor muscle and sports hernia from the Four Nations Final and playing in the postseason with the injury, Tkachuk is fully healthy to play in regular season games again, and it starts tonight at home against San Jose. The Sharks are in the final playoff spot in the west heading into tonights game, as the young Sharks get a chance to show what they have against the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions, and looking for a sweep as they got 39 shots in their last matchup in early November, but were only able to score once as they came out of their matchup with 0 points. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here with Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday. The two broke down the Panthers 9-1 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes, where they did not give themselves a single chance to win. The Canes were well in control of the game from the start, and it looked like the Panthers were going to get out of the first period unharmed as Carolina tilted the ice in their direction, but with less than two minutes left, the Cats were still in their own zone that had them trailing. Fresh off his extension, D Uvis Balinskis was able to tie the game after the Canes looked to have broke up the Panthers zone entry, and Balinskis cleaned up the loose change. After that, the Panthers didn't provide any offense and it was constant breakaways and an ability to get to the inside on Carolina. Although there were no penalties in the first, the Panthers discipline was non-existent as the game went on. Panthers constantly kill any possible momentum by taking penalties while on the power play and then eventually ending up on the penalty kill within minutes later, failed challenges, retaliations that caused coincidental minor penalties, all bottled up into the Hurricanes taking advantage as they scored eight unanswered, and four consecutive goals on the power play. One of their PPG's came one second after a 5-on-3, and another came on an actual 5-on-3 as it was an monsoon of goals in the third period, giving up six, and two more in the final three minutes. Panthers were down two after 40 minutes with eight shots on goal, just like in their previous matchup before they scored five straight. However, the chances of that happening a second time were always going to be low, and it went to the exact opposite direction as the previous matchup. The Panthers owe Sergei Bobrovsky an apology for leaving him out to dry and leaving the middle as open as they did on Friday night. Now the Panthers have no time to waste as they head to Washington to face another team where they have taken the first two games of the season series, as the Caps are one of the teams the Panthers are chasing in the eastern conference wild card race. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in TJ Peterson(@Parallelcircle) from Panther Pourri to break down the Panthers' 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres, giving Buffalo their second loss in the last 15 games. The Panthers were the faster team on the night winning races to the puck and the ability to counter attack, making life difficult on Colton Ellis. The Panthers were also able to make the Sabres a one-line team with only the Tage Thompson line creating consistent chances for Buffalo. The new look power play struck again, with getting the first goal of the game less than three minutes into the game with Sam Reinhart redirected Uvis Balinskis' point shot. Although the Sabres scored in the middle of the first, they were able to retake the lead on a counter attack after a quick breakout by Carter Verhaeghe and AJ Greer capilizing for the first of two goals. Buffalo was able to get a goal in the second, and Panthers came out of the locker room for the third and took control, but it didn't result in a lead until after the second tv timeout thanks to Anton Lundell's 14th of the season. Cats added one on the empty netter to create some insurance, and Buffalo scored with the extra attacker with 12 seconds left to make the game a bit closer, but not enough to force overtime. The Panthers third line, despite not scoring set the tone despite not getting on the scoresheet as Sandis Vilmanis looked very comfortable in his second career NHL game. Panthers current road trip and season series with Buffalo is now even, ad it's three days off between now and their next game Friday in Raleigh. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night as the Cats turned it on after giving up the first goal off a strange bounce, Panthers made a change to the power play placing alternating Gustav Forsling and Uvis Balinskis on the top power play units, and getting two goals on the evening as they were able to control the game after. Florida's ability to get an insurance goal off Gustav Forsling's slapshot in the third period allowed them to manage the push that Ottawa had in the final frame. Despite giving up a goal with less than two minutes left that had Ottawa cut the deficit to one, the Cats hung on to win in regulation and end their two game slide. The Panthers have the 9th best strength of schedule via opponents points percentage, but is that deceiving? The Cats visit the red hot Sabres as they are on a run of 13-1-0 in their last 14 games, and doing it with not allowing puck in the back of their net and a +20 goal differential since December 9th and find themselves in a playoff spot coming into Monday with a big swing game on tap. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens where the Panthers fell behind early again and had to play the catchup game. Already without Brad Marchand, the lineup was shuffled with AJ Greer on the second line, and the special teams with different personnel, the Panthers injuries are really starting to catch up. The Panthers had a stretch of dominance after the Habs scored the second goal of the game, and got it to one after Sam Montembault gave the puck away to Sam Bennett to an easy goal into an open net, and the Cats were looking to make a push, and then the one shot Montreal got in over 15 minutes ended up in the back of their net after a cross-ice feed from the right circle to the crease for an easy tap in for the first of three goals by Alexandre Texier. It was a night of strange pounces as the Habs got multple goals from batted pucks and deflections as the Panthers were not able to make Montembault work harder for saves. The game was 4-2 with chance to get the deficit to one, but an empty net chance by Juraj Slafkovsky ended any chance of a Cats comeback, which they also added another to give Texier the hat trick. The Panthers have now lost five of their last seven, as several teams have now past Florida in the standings. It's desperation time for the Panthers as they will face another team in the Senators on Saturday night, who are also on the outside looking in. Leafs responded four minutes later and it looked to be over from there. The panthers power play did not help where Seth Jones' presence is truly missing, where even when they were down three, the Panthers had an opportunity to make Toronto sweat, and they failed to do so. Florida did get one on the board with Carter Verhaeghe breaking an eight-game goal drought, but it was too little too late before Florida brough on the extra attacker with four minutes to go. before the Leafs added another one. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jim Biringer(@JimBiringer) from Full Press Hockey to break down the Panthers 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche, bouncing back from a poor performance from the Winter Classic with a performance that was playoff-like against a contender in Colorado. The Avs were on the second end of a back-to-back as they played in Raleigh the night before, and were without Devon Toews and also lost Captain Gabriel Landeskog with an upper-body injury after colliding with the goal post in the second period, truly hurt the Avs as the game went on. Panthers were without Seth Jones after the injury he suffered in the outdoor game, and had a new look on their power play one, as now they'll have to deal with life without him. Neither of the goal goals that the Panthers had were assisted as the Panthers battles in the corners created both goals, from Sam Bennett stripping sam Malinski and Reinhart's effort on the forecheck broke Ekblad to a lane before firing a slapshot on the far side on Scott Wedgewood with a screen in front. Panthers ability to close the gaps and getting quick exits out of their end helped them keep up with the speed of Colorado as the Avs still controlled the pace of play. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers/Marlins Historian(@FLACatsHistory and @MarlinsHistory) Francisco Oporta to the show to break down the 2026 NHL Winter Classic from LoanDepot Park in Little Havana. The hype up to the event was everything that South Florida fans could ask for with the amount of people arriving from the start, to the player arrivals, and then the lead up to the game. The actual game itself was not so great for the Panthers where they had almost double the amount of shots than the Rangers, but it was New York who was getting more of the high danger opportunities with screens and being able to get to the middle of the ice off the rush. It was the top end stars of the Rangers that came to play where they were one getting in on all the scoring, especially Mika Zibanijad and Artemi Panarin. Zibanijad scored the first Winter Classic Hat trick ever (third ever in an outdoor game) as the New York Rangers are now 6-0-0 in outdoor games. Did the quality of the ice have to do with the Panthers looking to play more of their dump-and-chase game? There were signs of the Panthers tilting the ice their way similarly to their Conference Final matchup from 2024, so encouraging the amount of time they had in the Rangers end. However, now it's time to turn the page as it's the first losing streak of two since early December, and although the Panthers deserve a lot of credit for climbing back up the standings, they have quickly gotten themselves on the outside looking in. Sunday's game against Colorado will officially reach the halfway point as they face a must-win before hitting the road. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) to break down the Panthers' 3-2 OT loss to the Montreal Canadiens, where the Panthers blew a two-goal lead with five minutes to go. Neither team got on the scoreboard until the third period when man of the hour Brad Marchand, who had a pregame ceremony celebrating getting his 1000th point, got the scoring going with a goal on the power play, Sam Reinhart also added to the scoring with a goal off the draw that beat Sam Montembault passed the should to double the lead. The Panthers however could not be comfortable as the Habs responded less than a minute later, thanks to Cole Caufield, who is making a big case for the US Olympic team. Daniil Tarasov was having the game of his life, making multiple key stops, especially when the Habs took control for the majority of the second period, but one misplay of the puck behind the net as the Habs were coming in on the forecheck resulted in a goal to tie the game at two thanks to Nick Suzuki. Not the first time Suzuki was able to force overtime against the Panthers in the final minutes, as he did it in their previous matchup back in April, and he also converted on the OT winner where Brad Marchand went to the box for roughing after Sam Bennett separated the puck from Mike Matheson, but an extra hit from Marchand (which also hurt Matheson) had the Panthers go on the Penalty kill just over a minute into OT, and despite a long stretch of a shooting lane not being open for Montreal for a good amount of the power play, they were able to find the back of the net with Lane Hutson hitting a cross seam pass to Suzuki parked in the blue paint and with Tarasov committed to his left, he was not able to make the adjustment in time to make the stop onn Suzuki, and it's another win for the Habs over Florida. It's not six wins in a row in the season series for Montreal as it's completely flipped from years passed. The guys give their three duds of the game, when they knew the game was lost, and because it's the last show of 2025, they also reflect on the wonderful year it was. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to break down the Panthers 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals, as it was another comeback win with Washington breaking the tie in the third, but the Panthers responding with three unanswered. It was a high event, high scoring period in the first with four goals combined, while the second provided zero. Panthers power play looked a lot better than they did on Saturday night, and got one on the board (Reinhart), and one just a second after one expired and it was the goal that had the Panthers back in the game, thanks to Brad Marchand. The Panthers top line forecheck was a major story in the game as the Luostarinen-Lundell-Reinhart line were a force on whoever they matched up with on the evening, and it set up the game-winning goal to defenseman Aaron Ekblad, and the Cats never looked back. Panthers were able to fight off a Tom Wilson's attempt at a hat trick, including a big stop by Sergei Bobrovsky with the glove while the Capitals were short handed off the rush. It's a regulation win that keeps the Panthers inside of the playoff race in the eastern conference and a stretch of five games in nine nights.
