S4 Ep 645Ep. 645 Nicola Lenci | Biodynamic & Organic

Ep. 645 Monty Waldin interviews Nicola Lenci of Fattoria di Magliano winery on this episode of Biodynamic & Organic. More about Fattoria di Magliano winery: Fattoria di Magliano is located In Maremma Toscana, on a hilly landscape that gently descends towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, Monte Argentario and the Island of Giglio. The soil structure has a medium, rich consistency, it allows for good drainage and oxygenation, it also has great root penetration. These are characteristics that, together with the sun and the wind coming from the sea, the exposure of the vineyards and the low annual rainfalls, facilitate the approach to organic management. Organic management was a choice adopted in 2011, receiving the certification for all our wines from the 2016 harvest onwards. These conditions allow us to obtain wines with great structure and the ability to last over time, but they are also fragrant and very drinkable. This is a family own business, founded in 1997, and the vines were planted from 97-2001. Welcome to this Ambassadors Corner where Ciro Pirone Interviews Roberto Di Meo on Clubhouse's Ambassador's Corner - this live recorded episode is hosted by Stevie Kim - recorded on Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you got your pick? About Roberto's Winery: At the beginning of the 1980s the brothers Erminia, Generoso and Roberto Di Meo took over the historic farm of their parents Vittorio and Alessandrina, located a few kilometers from Avellino, in the municipality of Salza Irpina . The property, which in the past belonged to the Caracciolo Princes, is surrounded by gentle and breezy hill slopes, dominated by a characteristic 18th century hunting lodge. The goal of the three brothers is to produce wines starting from the most widespread indigenous varieties in Irpinia, such as Fiano, Greco, Aglianico and Coda di volpe, and to enhance the heritage of cultural traditions of which they are inherited. The vineyards are planted and in 1986 the first family wines arrive: this is how the Di Meo winery was born. If you want to learn more about the winery visit: www.dimeo.it/ Let's keep in touch! Ep. 641 Rebecca Lawrence interviews Fanny Breuil in this episode of Voices More about Fanny: "I am Fanny Breuil, I am from Angers in the Loire and have always been in wine. I studied agronomy engineering and oenology. First, I worked as a winemaker (France, Italy, Chile) and then as a salesperson for a wine importer in the USA. In 2008, I founded my company Genuine Wines with a deep willingness to help winegrowers located in lesser-known or underappreciated wine regions (but that had great potential). I started with Jura and Emilia Romagna. Since then I have been helping them with their export markets as part of each team. These are French and Italian domaines. S4 Ep 640Ep. 640 Luana Monterosso | Biodynamic & Organic

Ep. 640 Monty Waldin interviews Luana Monterosso of the Bortolomiol winery on this episode of Biodynamic & Organic. More about Luana and the winery: Luana Monterosso has joined Bortolomiol Winery in February 2018 as Export Manager. She is now in charge of Brand building and sales in all the international markets. Bortolomiol is located in the heart of the Prosecco DOCG region, in Valdobbiadene. The long tradition of the Bortolomiol family as wine growers goes back to the 18th century and the Winery itself was founded by Giuliano Bortolomiol in 1949. Giuliano, considered a pioneer of the “Charmat” method, was the first to produce a Prosecco Brut in 1960. His dream was “to promote the quality and the awareness of Prosecco wine and make it a prestigious sparkling wine known throughout the world”. Nowadays the same spirit of innovation is carried on by his wife Ottavia, who runs the winery together with her four daughters (Maria Elena, Elvira, Luisa and Giuliana) to confirm the philosophy of the Brand: Quality of the product, a strong link with the territory, respect of nature and environmental sustainability. In the last 15 years the family invested in new technologies with the aim of establishing a more sustainable management in different aspects of the wine business. Always maintaining a strong link with the tradition started by Giuliano. In 2008 Bortolomiol took the decision to change 5 hectares of vineyards over to an organic growing system, a farming approach designed to preserve the natural habitat of the vineyard. Today the Winery owns a beautiful historical complex, just in the centre of Valdobbiadene, known as “Parco della Filandetta”, which hosts the organic vineyard, the first winery and an ancient silk mill, which was renovated and converted into a bright and spacious tasting room. Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you got your pick? Excerpt from Elena Fucci: "The work we do in the vineyard, as I always say to my grandfather, is not only viticulture, it is also the art of gardening and in this way we are able to provide so much care to our vines. A complete respect for nature and its cycles without the use of chemicals; even the vines are tied up with broom fibers that are dried during the summer. To me the work in the vineyard is essential (we only vinify grapes grown in our vineyard) and when the grapes arrive in the winery and the winemaking begins I am worried, in a way, that I may ruin the fruits of the harvest. Fortunately, the satisfactory end result makes all the hard work in the vineyard and cellar worthwhile" To find out more, visit: www.elenafuccivini.com/ Let's keep in touch! This is Part 3 of Stevie's visit to Pio Cesare and her Part 2 of her discussion with Federica! More About Pio Cesare: Pio Cesare has been producing wines for 135 years and through five generations in its ancient cellars in the center of the town of Alba. The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881, by Cesare Pio. He was a very successful entrepreneur and was inspired to produce a small and select quantity of wines from the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco for himself, his family, friends, and customers. Cesare Pio was dedicated to the terroir of the Piedmont region and to producing wines of the highest quality. Over the years, Cesare Pio built a thriving business. His entrepreneurial spirit encouraged him to travel throughout Europe in the early 20th century to publicize and promote Pio Cesare’s wines. His passport, which is proudly displayed at the winery in Alba, bears the number 55. His son, Giuseppe Pio, the second generation, found himself with a thriving winery at the turn of the century. He carried on his father’s passion and invested in the expansion of the cellars and the trade, making Pio Cesare a benchmark brand for the wines of the region. In 1940, Giuseppe Pio’s only child, Rosy, married Giuseppe Boffa, a young and well-known engineer from Alba, who managed a large company in Milan at the time. Then Italy began to struggle during the Second World War, Giuseppe Boffa decided to leave his job in Milan to dedicate himself to the Pio Cesare winery. Thanks to his efforts, the Pio Cesare brand gained fame and prominence both domestically and internationally, becoming one of the most respected names among Italian wine producers, with a special focus on its renowned Barolo. Rosy and Giuseppe Boffa named their youngest son Pio, in honor of his great-grandfather’s surname. Pio Boffa, the fourth generation, leads and directs the company today. In the early 1990’s Pio Boffa asked his cousin Augusto to join him in the company. His sister’s son, Cesare Benvenuto, has been active since 2000 as the fifth generation and recently Pio Boffa’s daughter, Federica Rosy, joined Pio Cesare, representing the future of the Family. Today, the family members travel extensively to more than 50 countries around the world, echoing what Cesare Pio himself did at the beginning of our history—promoting the name and reputation of the Pio Cesare winery to restaurants, hotels, wine shops and wine lovers worldwide.
