S4 Ep 595Ep. 595 Luigi Rossi Luciani | Monty Waldin

Ep. 595 Monty Waldin interviews Luigi Rossi Luciani from Le Volpi Winery. More about Luigi Rossi Luciani and his Estate: The Monte Fasolo and Le Volpi estates are located within the Euganean Hills Regional Park and enclose about 250 acres of vineyards growing on volcanic soil (90 of which certified organic and all of the rest in conversion to organic), more than 5000 olive trees, producing an outstanding Colli Euganei DOP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, and dozens of hectares of woods with marked trails and paths. Destination and stop for walks and cycling excursions, with its breathtaking panorama, Monte Fasolo is a landmark in the naturalistic context of the Euganean Hills. The current owner, Luigi Rossi Luciani, a well-known entrepreneur in Padua, and his family have always had an ardent enthusiasm and affection for the area and about 15 years ago they decided to buy and totally restore Le Volpi Estate, directly producing organic wines and EVO. The estate is nowadays an elegant and quiet farmhouse with 14 rooms and a unique infinity pool over the vineyards. In 2017 Mr. Rossi Luciani together with a friend, Mr. Fausto Petagna, decided to buy the Monte Fasolo estate too, which is located just 5 minutes away from Le Volpi, right on the top of the Monte Fasolo hill. The winery had long been abandoned and needed a complete restoration. An impressive work has been done and nowadays the Monte Fasolo Winery is a jewel on the top of the Euganean hills, visiting the winery and walking through the 200 meters long underground cellar is a unique experience to remember! The vineyards are located between 200 and 400 meters asl, the varieties produced are mainly the typical wines from the Euganean Hills, an extremely vocated volcanic area, including,ì among the others Fior d’Arancio DOCG , Cabernet DOC, Merlot DOC and the Bordeaux blend Rosso dei Colli Euganei DOC and Metodo Classico Sparkling wines from different varieties such as Chardonnay, Incrocio Manzoni, Pinot Nero, Glera and Fior d’Arancio too, you really need to come and taste! S4 Ep 590Ep. 590 Ondine de la Feld | Monty Waldin

Ep. 590 Monty Waldiin interviews Ondine de la Feld from Tenuta di Tavignano About Ondine de la Feld: Since 2014 Ondine de la Feld has joined her uncle Stefano Aymerich in the management of the company, bringing a modern, dynamic and entrepreneurial style to the company, with the support of a young and motivated team, excited about facing the challenges of the future. A wave of new energy in the sign of continuity. About the Estate: The estate, Tenuta di Tavignano, was purchased in 1975 by Stefano Aymerich di Laconi, of Sardinian and Spanish heritage and his wife Beatrice Lucangeli, descendant of a family from the region of Le Marche, boasting an antique tradition in wine production. Tavignano is an estate of 230 hectares in a single body which overlooks the countryside of Cingoli, always known as the Balcony of Le Marche. The Tenuta has been restored through careful conservative restoration, in the respect of the authenticity of the place and, in the early years, it had focused its business activity primarily on the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and forage. In the 1990s the decision was made to enhance the wine-making heritage and to become producers of autochthonous varieties, in sharp contrast with the fashion of the time that privileged international varieties, certain of the great potential of the grape variety that is the prince of these lands: the Verdicchio. Under the guidance of professionals in the sector such as Giancarlo Soverchia, to whom is owed the decision of uprooting the existing vineyards and the vision of adopting the spurred cordon with Verdicchio to aim for the highest expression of the grape variety, the choices perfectly suited the personality of the owners, focused on enhancing both quality and territoriality. In 2004 they took the very satisfying decision of making use of the consulting of the winemaker Pierluigi Lorenzetti and already in 2006 they obtained the first important recognition: the Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) of Gambero Rosso for Misco Reserva. Since then, the awards have consistently followed one after the other. In 2017 Gambero Rosso awarded the Misco 2015 vintage the prize “Bianco dell’Anno” which in fact named it as the year’s best Italian white wine. Valentina, the oenologist, is the mother of the wines, and she carefully follows production and vineyard activities - fundamental for the quality of our wines; Serena is in charge of administration and finance, and she follows the larger, fairer markets; I’m the multitasker, working on social media, dealing with the customer care aspect as well as the "Direct to Customer" sales, the German-speaking markets, winery tours (I’m the guide!), weddings (I’m also a wedding planner). S4 Ep 580Ep. 580 Pierpaolo Guerra | Monty Waldin

Episode 580 Monty Waldin Interviews Pierpaolo Guerra Pierpaolo Guerra is the Export Manager at Tenuta di Capezzana. In this interview he shares some of the fantastic history and wines this Winery has to offer. The Family at Tenuta di Capezzana In the twenties, Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi with his wife Vittoria bought the property of Capezzana, then enlarged with the purchase by the Marquis Aman Niccolini, of two neighboring farms, “Il Poggetto” and “Trefiano”. Thus was born the Tenuta di Capezzana, divided into 3 farms and more than 120 farms, dedicated to the production of high quality wine and oil. Alessandro's passion for collecting led him to preserve bottles, so that today Capezzana can boast a collection of historic vintages starting from 1925. In 1945, Augusto Alessandro, son of Alessandro, was joined by his son Ugo, a veteran of the war and a graduate in agriculture, which gradually took over the management of the estate, transforming it from a sharecropping management to a modern company. Ugo, a man of other times but with broad views, he exploited the enthusiasm and passion of his children, leaving each of them to run a business. A perfect combination between Ugo's experience and the novelty of the fourth generation. The first of the children to work alongside their father was Vittorio, who at the age of eighteen took charge of the all-round management of the company, eventually becoming the manager of the campaign and the winemaker, devoting himself particularly to the transformation towards organic. Today Capezzana is managed by a collaboration between the fourth and fifth generation. Beatrice is the sales manager, flanked by her sister Benedetta, the winemaker, and her brother Filippo, who is responsible for the production of oil and the financial part. The fifth generation has already begun to follow the family tradition, and today they work in the company Serena, responsible for hospitality, The History: In Carmignano the vine was already cultivated in the pre-Roman era, about 3000 years ago, as demonstrated by the wine jars and tasting cups found in the Etruscan tombs. A parchment dated 804 was found in the state archive of Florence: it is a rental contract that documents how olive trees and vines were cultivated in Capezzana 1200 years ago for the production of oil and wine. In the early Renaissance, a woman, Monna Nera Bonaccorsi, built the first “casa da Signori” and nine farm houses with the relative vine-growing systems; it was 1475. Other generations and families took turns on the property of the estate: the Cantucci, related to the Medici, and the Bourbon del Monte Marquises. In the eighteenth century a married Cantucci Bourbon enlarged the farm and bought new farms; he also introduced an exemplary administrative method, the documents of which are still preserved today in the company's historical archive. After the Bourbon del Monte, the company passed to the Adimari Morelli and then to the Franchetti Rothschilds and, by the widow Sara de Rothschild, and then to the Contini Bonacossi, our family, in 1920. Episode 575 - Monty Waldin talks to Matthias Oertel About Matthias: Biodynamic wine farm Tenuta del Fontino is more than just a producer of natural wines. It's a family-owned winery focusing on autochthonous grape varieties with a fundamental goal: producing fresh, honest and consistent wines according to the Demeter principles. "From the vine to the glass" – that´s Matthias' vision. "My name is Matthias Oertel, I am 26 years old and obtained a law degree in 2020. I was able to gain experience in the tourism industry at a young age since my family is running a hotel. This is where I got into the wine sector and I am seeing big potential in the future of wine tourism in the Maremma area. For this reason, I am trying to expand the offer around the wine because there is a lot more to discover besides that good glass of wine: a team, a story, a conviction, and above all, nature. Nature means Maremma – and Maremma is unique." Episode 560: Monty Waldin catches up with Fabian Schwarz who speaks about Fattoria La Magia, Montalcino! In 2011, Harald Schwarz handed the baton to his son Fabian, who had attended the Istituto Agrario San Michele all’Adige. S4 Ep 558Ep. 558 #everybodyneedsabitofscienza | Scienza talks Grappa

Good morning folks! It is yet another Friday and Scienza himself said it is tradition in Italy to kinda pour grappa into your coffee so I now feel legitimized to do so even if it's 9 am and I am currently sitting at my desk at work writing copies for this and other episodes of the Italian Wine Podcast. (Stevie, if you're reading, I'm sorry, you know I'm joking and I'd never drink anything while at work unless if it's provided by you like this morning's so called "juice" witch was actually Moscato d'Asti). Aanyways do you know about grappa? Neither does Stevie, so don't worry, Scienza is here to help us waking up tomorrow with a little more knowledge. Until next time, CIN CIN! (How do you say cin cin in your language?) Let's keep in touch!
