Welcome to this Ambassadors Corner where Xiaowen Du Interviews Elena Fucci on Clubhouse Ambassador's Corner - this special episode is hosted by Stevie Kim - recorded on Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! Listen in on this series as Italian Wine Ambassadors all over the world chat with Stevie and their chosen wine producer. Which producer would you interview if you got your pick? Excerpt from Elena Fucci: "The work we do in the vineyard, as I always say to my grandfather, is not only viticulture, it is also the art of gardening and in this way we are able to provide so much care to our vines. A complete respect for nature and its cycles without the use of chemicals; even the vines are tied up with broom fibers that are dried during the summer. To me the work in the vineyard is essential (we only vinify grapes grown in our vineyard) and when the grapes arrive in the winery and the winemaking begins I am worried, in a way, that I may ruin the fruits of the harvest. Fortunately, the satisfactory end result makes all the hard work in the vineyard and cellar worthwhile" To find out more, visit: www.elenafuccivini.com/ Let's keep in touch! Ep. 617 Welcome to this special On The Road Edition in which Federica Boffa of Pio Cesare talks with Stevie Kim about the Winery in the area of Alba. This is Part 3 of Stevie's visit to Pio Cesare and her Part 2 of her discussion with Federica! More About Pio Cesare: Pio Cesare has been producing wines for 135 years and through five generations in its ancient cellars in the center of the town of Alba. The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881, by Cesare Pio. He was a very successful entrepreneur and was inspired to produce a small and select quantity of wines from the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco for himself, his family, friends, and customers. Cesare Pio was dedicated to the terroir of the Piedmont region and to producing wines of the highest quality. Over the years, Cesare Pio built a thriving business. His entrepreneurial spirit encouraged him to travel throughout Europe in the early 20th century to publicize and promote Pio Cesare’s wines. His passport, which is proudly displayed at the winery in Alba, bears the number 55. His son, Giuseppe Pio, the second generation, found himself with a thriving winery at the turn of the century. He carried on his father’s passion and invested in the expansion of the cellars and the trade, making Pio Cesare a benchmark brand for the wines of the region. In 1940, Giuseppe Pio’s only child, Rosy, married Giuseppe Boffa, a young and well-known engineer from Alba, who managed a large company in Milan at the time. Then Italy began to struggle during the Second World War, Giuseppe Boffa decided to leave his job in Milan to dedicate himself to the Pio Cesare winery. Thanks to his efforts, the Pio Cesare brand gained fame and prominence both domestically and internationally, becoming one of the most respected names among Italian wine producers, with a special focus on its renowned Barolo. Rosy and Giuseppe Boffa named their youngest son Pio, in honor of his great-grandfather’s surname. Pio Boffa, the fourth generation, leads and directs the company today. In the early 1990’s Pio Boffa asked his cousin Augusto to join him in the company. His sister’s son, Cesare Benvenuto, has been active since 2000 as the fifth generation and recently Pio Boffa’s daughter, Federica Rosy, joined Pio Cesare, representing the future of the Family. Today, the family members travel extensively to more than 50 countries around the world, echoing what Cesare Pio himself did at the beginning of our history—promoting the name and reputation of the Pio Cesare winery to restaurants, hotels, wine shops and wine lovers worldwide. Ep. 610 Joy Livingston interviews Monty Waldin on Italian Wine Podcast's 4th Year Birthday Bash! on this episode of Biodynamic & Organic. More about Monty: Host of "Biodynamic & Organic" This time we are turning the tables and interviewing him! The one with the voice, personality, and background in organic wines. Often recording from his fortress somewhere in the hills of Tuscany… he got into wine as a teenager having worked on several Bordeaux vineyards to improve his French in the mid-1980s. His family always grew its own organic vegetables and he was surprised to find the wine industry had few organic wines at this time. Monty started traveling around the world to work on organic and biodynamic estates (France, Germany, California, Italy) and wrote the first books on organic/biodynamic wines and winemaking. Although he had his own TV series - an observational documentary called Château Monty, about converting a Roussillon vineyard to biodynamics - Monty prefers radio (or its modern-day reincarnation, the podcast). Ep. 595 Monty Waldin interviews Luigi Rossi Luciani from Le Volpi Winery. More about Luigi Rossi Luciani and his Estate: The Monte Fasolo and Le Volpi estates are located within the Euganean Hills Regional Park and enclose about 250 acres of vineyards growing on volcanic soil (90 of which certified organic and all of the rest in conversion to organic), more than 5000 olive trees, producing an outstanding Colli Euganei DOP Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, and dozens of hectares of woods with marked trails and paths. Destination and stop for walks and cycling excursions, with its breathtaking panorama, Monte Fasolo is a landmark in the naturalistic context of the Euganean Hills. The current owner, Luigi Rossi Luciani, a well-known entrepreneur in Padua, and his family have always had an ardent enthusiasm and affection for the area and about 15 years ago they decided to buy and totally restore Le Volpi Estate, directly producing organic wines and EVO. The estate is nowadays an elegant and quiet farmhouse with 14 rooms and a unique infinity pool over the vineyards. In 2017 Mr. Rossi Luciani together with a friend, Mr. Fausto Petagna, decided to buy the Monte Fasolo estate too, which is located just 5 minutes away from Le Volpi, right on the top of the Monte Fasolo hill. The winery had long been abandoned and needed a complete restoration. An impressive work has been done and nowadays the Monte Fasolo Winery is a jewel on the top of the Euganean hills, visiting the winery and walking through the 200 meters long underground cellar is a unique experience to remember! The vineyards are located between 200 and 400 meters asl, the varieties produced are mainly the typical wines from the Euganean Hills, an extremely vocated volcanic area, including,ì among the others Fior d’Arancio DOCG , Cabernet DOC, Merlot DOC and the Bordeaux blend Rosso dei Colli Euganei DOC and Metodo Classico Sparkling wines from different varieties such as Chardonnay, Incrocio Manzoni, Pinot Nero, Glera and Fior d’Arancio too, you really need to come and taste! S4 Ep 590Ep. 590 Ondine de la Feld | Monty Waldin
Ep. 590 Monty Waldiin interviews Ondine de la Feld from Tenuta di Tavignano About Ondine de la Feld: Since 2014 Ondine de la Feld has joined her uncle Stefano Aymerich in the management of the company, bringing a modern, dynamic and entrepreneurial style to the company, with the support of a young and motivated team, excited about facing the challenges of the future. A wave of new energy in the sign of continuity. About the Estate: The estate, Tenuta di Tavignano, was purchased in 1975 by Stefano Aymerich di Laconi, of Sardinian and Spanish heritage and his wife Beatrice Lucangeli, descendant of a family from the region of Le Marche, boasting an antique tradition in wine production. Tavignano is an estate of 230 hectares in a single body which overlooks the countryside of Cingoli, always known as the Balcony of Le Marche. The Tenuta has been restored through careful conservative restoration, in the respect of the authenticity of the place and, in the early years, it had focused its business activity primarily on the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and forage. In the 1990s the decision was made to enhance the wine-making heritage and to become producers of autochthonous varieties, in sharp contrast with the fashion of the time that privileged international varieties, certain of the great potential of the grape variety that is the prince of these lands: the Verdicchio. Under the guidance of professionals in the sector such as Giancarlo Soverchia, to whom is owed the decision of uprooting the existing vineyards and the vision of adopting the spurred cordon with Verdicchio to aim for the highest expression of the grape variety, the choices perfectly suited the personality of the owners, focused on enhancing both quality and territoriality. In 2004 they took the very satisfying decision of making use of the consulting of the winemaker Pierluigi Lorenzetti and already in 2006 they obtained the first important recognition: the Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) of Gambero Rosso for Misco Reserva. Since then, the awards have consistently followed one after the other. In 2017 Gambero Rosso awarded the Misco 2015 vintage the prize “Bianco dell’Anno” which in fact named it as the year’s best Italian white wine.
