On today's episode I discuss sports media members and their criticism of others. Very often one finds a label attached to them when making critical remarks. if a White person criticizes a Black person, all of a sudden, their racist. If you criticize transgender athletes, you're homophobic and so on and so forth. We live in a crazy world! I read an article from Phil Mushnick of the NY Post. Mushnick was very critical of the Raider's hiring of interim coach Antonio Pierce. I also discuss Yankees executive Brian Cashman for his course language during a press conference. On this episode I take you down memory lane with some of the best NFL broadcast teams in history. I used to love Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis on NBC. You knew when you saw them it was a big game, and they were so entertaining and Gowdy may have had the best broadcast voice all time. Speaking of voices, it was hard to top Jack Buck. He and Hank Stram were a treasure when they teamed up on CBS Radio calling NFL games. I feel bad for the younger generation that they never had a chance to watch Monday Night Football with Frank Gifford, Don Merideth and Howard Cosell. What the heck has happened to the 49ers? Yesterday they lost their third straight game, this time to the Bengals. The Niners look lost on both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, on the other side of the country the Giants and Jets played one of the worst games in recent memory. The Jets won in OT 13-10. Let me get this straight. The NBA is investigating the Sixers for not playing James Harden last night under their new participation mandate. How about investigating Harden for lack of professionalism and being a head case? The NBA should be happy. Their league is better off without the malcontent. Tonight begins the 2023-24 NBA season. The Kings play their opener tomorrow night in Salt Lake City. On today's episode I reflect back to my first ever NBA broadcast in November of 1988. The site was Portland, Oregon and little did I know that would be the start of 32 years of calling Kings games. I reflect on one of the most amazing phone calls I've ever received. The King's previous TV announcer. Tom Curran, called me in my hotel to wish me luck. That was such a classy gesture by Tom, something I have never forgotten. The Kings lost badly to the Blazers that night, but it didn't matter to me. I was living a dream to be announcing NBA basketball! There appear to be many bad teams in the NFL, but the Ravens aren't one of them. Lamar Jackson was brilliant yesterday as the Ravens dismantled the 5-1 Lions. One team that is going the opposite direction....the Bills. They barely beat the Giants at home last weekend and yesterday allowed the Patriot's prevent offense to score 29 points in a 29-23 loss. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't know why any team would want James Harden on it. The Sixers veteran missed practice for the 2nd straight day yesterday. The team officially said Harden isn't with the team for personal reasons. If that's the case somebody might want to tell head coach Nick Nurse. On today's episode I compare this era of Kings basketball with what happened in the late 90's and the turn of the century. Last season very few people expected the Kings to be a playoff team and yet they finished 3rd in the West. In 1998-99 the Kings made the playoffs in an abbreviated 50 game season as a 7th seed. Not many thought the Kings would make the postseason that year, but it ended up being the start of a long run of success. I see many similarities between this Kings team and the ones from the "glory" years more than 20 seasons ago. The question is will this era of Kings basketball led by DeAaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis be able to go further than the teams with Bibby, Webber, Vlade, Peja and company? The Broncos are now 1-5 after losing to the Chiefs last night. The game was not nearly as close as the score indicated. You could make an argument that the Broncos are worse than last year. Being a LA Dodgers fan can't be easy. Once again. they have wasted another 100 win season by getting eliminated early in the playoffs. Last night the Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers in the NLDS to advance on the playoffs. The Dodgers have one only one World Series title since 1988 and that was in the 60-game season in 2020!
