Ep 151EP 151: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee Pt. 9
EToday’s episode starts off with the dream of any Houndsman, a bear hunting honeymoon! Dale and the crew set out to catch a big, stock killing bruin before it settles in for its winter nap. They pull out all the stops even bringing in some Hound x Bull Terrier crosses for this one, and even a half Shepard half Springer Spaniel. But after a long day, miles of country and a whole lot of grit they got it done. After several encounters with this monster boar, Dale and his brother were finally able to lay hands on the biggest bear they had caught to date. https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTales https://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTV https://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K-IXn7rgXyEXax8 http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4o https://podcast.dusupply.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 150EP 150: Gone to the Dogs with Daniel Felker
ESteve calls it the Twilight Zone of coon hunting podcasts. It’s the new effort by South Carolinian Daniel Felker and his cohorts in crime, Dustin Faulkner and Ryan James called Coon Hunting Confidential on the Hound’s Tooth Podcasting Network. You can find it on all the podcast player apps on the world wide web. In Felker’s words, the show “explores anything and everything coon hunting” including “cryptids, the paranormal, the unexplained and a whole lot of crazy.” With all that going on in a one-hour podcast, Steve figured there had to be a lot of unchartered territory that he could explore and that’s just what listeners will find in this, the longest Gone to the Dogs podcast to date. Felkner and Company, to borrow from the Addams Family theme, are “creepy and they’re kooky” and “they’re all together ooky.” Check them out as Fielder and Felkner take a walk on the dark side of coon hunting, and we don’t just mean taking a walk in the dark of night. It’s as close as a coon hunter can get to “the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition…” It’s the Gone to the Dogs Podcast and it’s happening now. Topics discussed: Snow Mobile Wrecks, Snow, Hunting with kids and the ordeals we put them through, and how Bear's hound Buzz has a lot in common with a well know MMA fighter.Tune in for some laughs, and try not to hurt yourselves rolling your eyes. Ep 147EP 147: Gone To The Dogs with Ed Zorn and Kenneth Tulles
EIn this episode Steve visits with Deep East Texas coon hunters Ed Zorn and Kenneth Tulles.Kenneth, a former rodeo cowboy and Army veteran, attributes his love for coon hunting, and a world of experience he’s gained, to his association with octogenarian Ed Zorn. At age 88 years, Ed was born in the small town of Cloverleaf, about twenty miles from Houston. He still actively feeds, in Kenneth’s words, his blue dog addiction by coon hunting. Both Zorn and Tulles hunt Blueticks. It is veteran hunters like Ed Zorn whom Steve tries to seek out as potential guests, believing they hold a wealth of knowledge and information that will benefit anyone within the sport that cares to listen to their experiences. Our guest this week fits the mold perfectly. Listen as Ed tells how his coon hunting habit broke him of chasing girls, ruined his love life and launched him into a lifetime of enjoying hounds. Particularly enjoyable are his and Kenneth’s stories of hunts with Stagger Lee, a Bluetick of questionable parentage, suspect registration and devastating physical disadvantage that Zorn describes as being bad to the bone. This is a look back over time as Steve examines the life of a man that has enjoyed coon hunting for more years than many coon hunters of today can claim or imagine. Ep 146EP 146: Bear Bred Blueticks with the Ellwangers
EWe finally got a chance to meet up with Ross Ellwanger face to face and he brought a heavy hitter with him! His cousin Chris has been involved with hounds since a child and gives us a backstory on how their strain of dogs came to be. A real bear dog is something to behold, but to consistently produce them is a feat of its own. Ross and Chris talk about selective breeding, the traits dogs carry, and also have some great stories about running bear in the cornfields of WI. We also take a live call for some training tips on dogs that have a tendency to be game possessive and have a great round table discussion on some things to try to correct the issue. Ep 145EP 145: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee Pt. 8
EThis week Dale takes us on a hunt from the early 50’s for a hard to catch tom. The tricky part is this client didn’t want to shoot the cat, they wanted him alive! But this tricky tom did not like to stay in a tree to much to add to the difficulty. We also get a step by step lesson in roping a lion as well as the rodeo that goes along with such a task. If you haven’t figured out Dale was a little bit of a crazy man, this episode should help convince you. https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTales https://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTV https://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K-IXn7rgXyEXax8 http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4o https://podcast.dusupply.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 144EP 144: Gone to the Dogs with Calvin Redhouse
EThree years ago, Steve participated in a Freedom Hunters Outdoor Adventure with Native American houndsman and guide, Calvin Redhouse of Chinle, Arizona. The hunt was held in honor of Gold Star Family Member and Marine Corps veteran Tanner Babb and took place on the 17 million-acre Navajo Nation in Arizona. The target animal for the hunt was the mountain lion. The main objective of the hunt was to have Babb score a mountain lion. The lions proved to be illusive, but through his prowess and dedication as a houndsman, Redhouse managed to put the veteran under a nice bobcat that Babb harvested. Steve and Redhouse became friends on that hunt and have remained in frequent contact. This episode with Calvin covers a wide range of topics including Redhouse’s exceptional pack of hound dogs, his preferences in breeding those hounds and a general discussion of hunting in the vast beauty of the guest’s home territory. Also in this episode, Steve visits with Fred Moran the Redbone Man to discuss coon clubs and legendary event promoter and magazine publisher Eddie Ross. Ep 143EP 143: The Walk from Wick to Garmin with Mark Zepp
EToday Buddy and Jason get to catch up with Mark Zepp, aka "Big Mark". DU has built a great relationship with Mark over the years and the guys really enjoyed getting a chance to catch up with him in person at the WBHA convention. Not only is Mark our Garmin representative, he has worked for other leading names in the dog industry including Tri-tronics and the legendary John Wick. We talk a little about Garmin acquiring Tri-Tronics and the early days of the Alpha series as well as DU’s premonition of the Alpha 200. Mark gives us an inside look into hunting with and working for the legendary John Wick, making a move out west just to hunt predators out of a van, building top of the line predator calls/coon squallers and building a family. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we all did! https://www.dusupply.com/zepp-s-lifetime-aluminum-coon-squaller.htmlhttps://www.markzepp.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 142EP 142: Respecting your Elders with Steve Fielder
EIn this episode of The Hunting Hound, Bear sits down with Steve Fielder. It's taken a couple of years to get this one done but I guarantee it was worth the wait! We delve a bit deeper into Steve's start in hounds, and talk about specific dogs, men, and experiences that have meant a lot for Steve and the Houndsman he became. If you respect your elders, you might just learn something!Check out Steve's Podcast, “Gone to the Dogs” on the Double U Podcast Network anywhere podcasts are available. Ep 141EP 141: Gone to the Dogs with Gordie Schroeder
EIn this episode, Steve’s hunting buddy Gordie Schroeder of Oklawaha, Florida occupies the guest chair for a good conversation on all things Plott. Like Steve, Gordie prefers the brindle dogs and has had remarkable success in major UKC Nite Hunt competition with a Plott female named Bayou Banana. Nana has made her presence known in the winner’s circle at the Florida State Championship, the Georgia State Championship, Autumn Oaks, the UKC World Championship and as the three-night opposite-sex winner at the National Plott Hound Association’s annual Plott Days.Steve and Gordie each drive fifty miles to meet at a favorite hunting spot, a privately owned ranch in central Florida. In this episode, the friends talk about those hunts with Nana, Ole Hoss and with their longtime mutual friend Bob Frazier, a snowbird from Ohio. The Plott breed is the smallest in number of the originally-recognized UKC coonhound breeds but though small in number, the Plott fraternity is tightly-knit and doubly-proud when a Plott dog, regardless of the owner, makes the news.Having a Plott fancier as the host should warn listeners that a fair amount of Plott-related content will be aired from time to time. This one is especially for Plott enthusiasts but will appeal to anyone that loves tree dogs and perhaps are curious about the mysterious breed coon and big game hunters know as the Plott. Ep 139EP 139: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee Pt. 7
EDale starts off by giving us a look into his family and reveals his brother’s death while hunting Mt. Lion. There was no lack of hunters in the Lee family. Between all the Lee boys they caught and documented 125 Jaguar, but Dale is quick to let us know he was personally on 120 of them . We learn he also takes his clients seriously. Listen in as Dale tells us about the time he literally tied up a lion for a client. We also get to hear about training pups on Ocelots, and the tale of the only “Onza” cat taken by an American! He describes the cat so well you can practically see it! https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTaleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTVhttps://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K-IXn7rgXyEXax8http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4ohttps://podcast.dusupply.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 138EP 138: Gone to the Dogs with Billy Dwyer
EWhen Steve Fielder set out to produce a weekly podcast, the goal was to establish a platform upon which coon hunters could gather to talk dogs and to express their views on things that matter most to them. Through social media, hundreds of hunters have contacted the podcast to express their appreciation and to offer encouragement. Rarely has negative criticism been received. No listener has been more adept at the art of making the host feel the effort to be hitting the mark than the guest appearing this week, Billy Dwyer of Slidell, Louisiana. After exchanging several messages, Steve finally gets to sit down with Dwyer to delve into the listener’s refreshing philosophy concerning hounds and the people that hunt them. This is a feel-good episode that will, if nothing more, make the listeners feel good about themselves. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 137EP 137:A Trail Less Traveled with Garrett Fry
EThis week Jason got to catch up with longtime friend and fellow Houndsman Garrett Fry while at the Elk Creek field trial. Some would say Garret is truly living the American dream, us included! From leading 35 horse pack trains into the most remote, rugged, and beautiful country in the US, to picking a 6 string, Garrett is carrying on in the ways of the great hunters of the past. Garrett is no stranger to hounds, curs, and terriers. In this episode he tells tales of using his Trapline Dogs, hunting coyotes for the government with use of his family’s Decoy Dogs, Grizzly Bear encounters and more. His cowboy lifestyle has led him down the path less traveled, but the stories, memories and friendships made along the way are a testament to a dying breed of man. So saddle up, settle in and enjoy the ride. https://www.facebook.com/hawksresttrailrideshttps://www.facebook.com/garrettfryandthecowboycharmbandpodcast.dusupply.com www.dusupply.com We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 135EP 135: Gone to the Dogs with Heath Hyatt
EHeath Hyatt is a popular guest in the world of hound-hunting podcasts. He’s pretty much made the rounds preaching the gospel of obedience training as an essential element to having a well-handling hound, regardless of the type of game pursued. His job as a master trainer of police dogs for several agencies throughout the State of Virginia and his long-standing reputation as a master hunter of black bears with hounds combine to make him an interesting listen and thus his many invitations to appear online.Steve Fielder and Hyatt have been friends and hunting companions since their hounds each appeared in the winner’s circle at the National Plott Hound Association’s annual Plott Days event in 1997. Hyatt was the overall winner with Fielder taking the Opposite Sex win for the Isaiah Kidd Award, the event’s highest prize. Through the following years the pair have hunted coons in several states and bears in the states of Virginia and West Virginia where Hyatt and Fielder were respectively born.In this episode, Fielder takes Hyatt down a different path than his normal podcast appearance routine as the two friends discuss the hounds and the hunts that have bound the friends together for twenty-five years. The conversation centers upon coon and bear hunting equally and is a good listen if you are an ardent fan of either sport. In addition to our great conversation, we also had a brief intermission with Fred Moran, the Redbone Man to hear another one of his stories. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 134EP 134: Real Talk, Building Bridges and Life Lessons
EThe bonds built in the world of working dogs are pretty unique. Considering these guys have never met face to face, it was like picking up with old friends for a great cause. This episode is about much more than a single event, it’s about bridging the gap between sportsmen and those that do not understand our lifestyle. There have been a lot of bridges burned by both sides over the years. How do we build bridges out of ashes? How do we show them the entire story when people are so quick to just judge the conclusion? The guys also talk about being sportsmen in a time that it is not “popular” in society and Jason has a “dad brag” that leads to a conversation on the life lessons and values that our lifestyle offers to the next generation. Ep 133EP 133: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee pt. 6
EDale kicks off this story telling session with chasing Arizona bears where his client learns the important lesson of “don’t oversell yourself to a professional”. I’m not sure what hurt worse, the battered ego or the saddle sores. We also hear the story of the hunt for a calf killing Jaguar. The chase starts off with a pistol about as worthless as a cap gun but sure ends with a bang. Dale really knows how to paint a picture of some beautiful country to take us along the trail with him. https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTaleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTVhttps://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K-IXn7rgXyEXax8http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4ohttps://podcast.dusupply.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 132EP 132: Gone to the Dogs with Sid Underwood
ESteve and Sid Underwood met in 1983 when each was attached to the Field Operations Department of the world’s largest working dog registry, the United Kennel Club. Underwood’s role as a Field Representative, largely serving the expansive Texas territory, rapidly gained him national attention although his was already a household name among Lone Star State coon hunters. His involvement with coon hunting and particularly Treeing Walkers anchored him deeply, even as a young man, into the bedrock of coon hunting history in that part of the world. He hunted with, or at least found himself in the company of, some of the sport’s most significant hounds and the men that hunted them.In this episode, old friends talk about the UKC days, the fascinating aura of the Texas State Championship, and spend a whole lot of time analyzing the way things were and are, now and then.Texas is one of Steve’s favorite coon hunting destinations and he spares no effort to share with listeners the fascinating, unique style that is Texas coon hunting, something he first experienced way back in 1969. This one is as comfortable as a well-worn pair of Wranglers and as satisfying as a stop at a Texas crossroads café for chicken-fried steaks. Pour yourself a tall iced tea, settle back and we’ll go coon hunting Texas-style with one of the sport’s most interesting figures, Sid Underwood. Listeners will also enjoy the debut of weekly podcast visits by storyteller supreme, Fred Moran. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 131EP 131: Rigging Bobcats with Don Gilbert
EThis week we welcome back Buddy's long time friend and our very first podcast guest Don Gilbert. They spend some time talking about the hot topic of "rigging" bobcats. Don talks on some training tips, his thoughts on the ability to "make" a rig dog and more. Rigging cats is not something that has just always been a thing. But through selective breeding and true dedication to making the best dogs possible, varmint hunters of the Pacific Northwest have been able to open up a whole new world of hunting. So pull up a seat and listen in to some cat hunting tips and more! We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 130EP 130: The Hunting Hound with Cole's National Cat Hounds
EHidde Van Der Kamp joins Bear for a rundown of the Cole's International Cat Hound. They discuss breeding, training, history and future of the Cole's Cat hound. Also discussed is hunting cats in Canada and why Bear and Hidde both didn't make it to the first time this podcast was scheduled. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 129EP 129: Gone to the Dogs with Monty Gusse
EIn this episode Steve is joined by a veteran competition-hunter who, among other significant wins including those at UKC Treeing Walker Days, placed third in the 2019 UKC World Championship. Despite his prowess in competition, our guest is evolving, as most hunters do with age, into a serious breeder and pleasure hunter with a dog-related commercial enterprise or two thrown in for good measure. This is a broad-reaching conversation on the hounds and the hunts of yesterday and today, enjoyed by two coon hunters as they talk about as many aspects of the sport as can possibly be crammed into a two-hour episode. At age 55, Monte Gusse of Fenton, Ill., has had more than his share of top hounds and has hunted with as many good ones through the years as any serious coon hunter can claim. The idea for this episode came to fruition when Steve decided there was a lot more he wanted to know about Gusse, and by golly, he got what he was hoping for. This one is a little longer than usual but worth every minute of your time. Enjoy. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 128EP 128: Season End with the Double U Team
EWe have a full house again on this episode as Jess, Shannon and Olivia join Buddy and Jason to recap the hunting season. To start the trainwrecks, Jason recaps getting the DU Dodge stuck, and more importantly unstuck with a recovery system that would make MacGyver proud. Buddy had a goal to take our staff on a cat hunt for some hands on and real-life experience in the life of a Houndsman. Between busted sleds, boulder patches, and the “ghost cat” that Buddy has gotten to know quite well over the last 3 years, I’d say they got a pretty accurate representation of the life. Ep 127EP 127: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee Pt. 5
EJoin us as we listen in to more great stories from “The Greatest Guide”. Today we go way back to the days before WW2. We hear a heart wrenching boating accident resulting in the loss of over half his pack of top notch Jaguar dogs. But Dale made sure to save the best story for last and he relives the time he came face to face with a Jaguar and had to show it that he knew how to swing a rifle like he was in a home run derby! https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTaleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTVhttps://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K-IXn7rgXyEXax8http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4ohttps://podcast.dusupply.com/ We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 125EP 125: How Can I Have Both Bear and Bobcat Dogs?
EIt’s a question that has been asked 1000 times. “Can you use the same dogs on bear and bobcat?” Some say it cant be done. Others prove it can be done time and time again. So, what is the secret to having dogs that are successful with both game species? The guys have a great conversation that digs into when and how to introduce pups, how to give them the best chance at being a switch hitter, and the difference between dogs that will run a bear/cat, and a true bear or cat dog. What are your thoughts? Can you have your cake and eat it to? We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 124EP 124: The Hunting Hound with Bob Plott, Take 2
EBear sits down with Bob Plott to discuss the upcoming Plott Fest at the Meadowlark Smokey Mountain Heritage Center. Afterwards we discuss topics like, buckskin plotts, the NPHA and the APA, and how hard it is to hide genetics and how some genetics traits have a way of popping up years after the sire that introduced them has passed on into legend. Ep 123EP 123: Gone to the Dogs with Fred Moran the Redbone Man
EMany listeners to this podcast got their start into coon hunting with hounds as a result of reading the classic American novel Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, published in 1961. The stars of the story are a pair of Redbone Coonhounds named Old Dan and Little Ann.The book can be found in virtually every elementary school library in the country and the movie has thrilled audiences, young and old since its debut in June of 1974. As a result, many coon hunters chose their first coonhound from the Redbone breed. The guest on this week’s podcast has been associated with the Redbone breed for most of his life which is a considerable period of time. He celebrated his 85th birthday this month, in February of 2022.Entering the competition realm of the sport while a teenager, Fred Moran soon acquired the nickname “The Redbone Man” due to his affinity for, and early success with, Redbones in the competition hunts.Moran, despite his age still hunts Redbones and, in his words, “I hunt a minimum of five nights a week, every week.” He further states, “I don’t hunt long, maybe treeing a coon or two unless someone is along that I’m trying to impress.” That’s vintage Moran. The stories are endless and they are immensely entertaining. We are delighted to be able to share several of them in this episode, told by none other than the Redbone man himself, Fred Moran. Enjoy! In this week’s episode, Dale tells the story of tying up a big Tom and packing it home on horseback! Ep 120EP 120: Gone to the Dogs on the Finley River
EJohn Monroe is a household word in the coon hunting world, especially in the Treeing Walker breed. Jim Merchant, Joe House and Monroe are the three most famous hunters that ever entered a Night Hunt, advertised a stud dog or bred a litter of Treeing Walker pups. When John Monroe gave $3500 for an eight-year old dog that would become one of the most famous in Treeing Walker history, the immortal Finley River Chief, he bought Chief because the hound’s son, Finley River Spot, was sterile. Monroe had bought Spot for $2000 and only realized the dog was missing females after he won the prestigious ACHA World Championship. This episode is John Monroe’s story of Chief, Spot, Finley River Joe and a host of other famous hounds as told by John himself. It’s a story of determination and longevity if nothing else, but there’s so much more.Monroe is still coon hunting and breeding Treeing Walker hounds at eighty-two years of age. Listen as he tells the remarkable story of his experiences with the iconic line of Treeing Walker hounds known the coon hunting world over as Finley River. Ep 119EP 119: Buddy, Jason and Ross Get Political
ERoss Ellwanger joins Buddy and Jason to talk about the political shift going on in our country and how we can leverage it as Sportsmen. How do we take advantage of the swing of the pendulum? Are people finally making the shift from “woke” to “awake”? You be the judge. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. EBear welcomes guest and good egg Joseph Crance to the podcast. Joe is the author of the coon hunting family series Ryland Creek Saga and comes on to talk about his new novel in the series “The Forest Ghost”. Well, as usually happens when Joe and Bear sit down, it went off the rails and they talked about everything from crazy young plotts in Norway, to coonhounds in the forests of upstate New York, and agree that every houndsman can benefit from some good old man wisdom. Ep 117EP 117: Gone to the Dogs with Givers and Takers
EIn this timely episode, we get to the very heart of the coon hunting sport, the coon hunter's club and the state and national organizations. Without the clubs there are no events, no winners, no losers, no heroes, no villains, no awards, no trucks, no photos, no opportunities to blow and go on social media. It's just that simple and in this episode Steve gets down to the nitty gritty with a real club-supporting workhorse that's had enough of the apathy that prevails among many hunters today, those that feel their only obligation is to pay an entry fee and beyond that, to take the clubs to task on social media when things don't go to their liking. This is a no-holds-barred discussion about the importance of club membership and participation and is only as important as is the future of our sport itself. Buckle up for our interview with North Carolinian Jeff Robinson. It's a good 'un. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 115EP 115: Born 100 Years Too Late, Dale Lee Pt. 3
EIn today’s tales, Dale talks about his trip to Oregon in pursuit of Mt. Lion. Houndsmen of the past had hurdles that we wouldn’t even think of. Would you ship your dogs halfway across the country by train? Dale tells the story of why he couldn’t be on that train with his dogs, hunting the Pacific Northwest, and how serious he takes breakfast. One could say the man got a little "hangry". Ep 114EP 114: Gone to the Dogs with Ray Conrad
EVendors play an extremely important role in hound sports. Houndsmen, and especially those whose activities take them into the outdoors in early morning or late evening hours realize the importance of a bright, dependable, portable source of light in order to safely and successfully follow our hounds. A coon hunter with a penchant for Black and Tan Coonhounds, Ray Conrad has served as national president for one of the nation's largest breed associations, The American Black and Tan Coonhound Association. As an entrepreneur, Conrad has continually brought new products to the forefront at major coonhound events and in his advertisements in major coonhound publications. Ep 112EP 112: The Hunting Hound with Jordan Farmer
EJust days before this podcast was recorded, Jordan lost a hound and had one badly torn up by wolves, not 20 feet in front of him. Jordan tells us about Ann, his lost hound, and describes the toll that overpopulation and poor management of wolves has taken on, not just his pack, but the packs of many other hound hunters (not to mention the deer and small game populations.). Join us as we explore a complicated problem, and honor the memory of a fine young hound. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Ep 111EP 111: Gone to the Dogs with Elijah Burnett
EElijah Burnett, at age 26, epitomizes the fledgling hound or tree dog enthusiast of today.Motivated, intrigued and thirsty for all the knowledge he can garner to enhance his experience, he also is uniquely possessed of the one quality many in his age group seem to find the hardest to grasp, the patience to let the training work. Since the inception of Gone To The Dogs Podcast, the goal has been to communicate with the Elijahs of our sport, in the ways you will hear in this enjoyable episode. Like the prophet of old who was taken to Heaven in a fiery chariot only to bring miracles and help to those in trouble, it will be the modern-day Elijahs that will preserve, promote and protect our sport for present and future generations. So why not just train them to do both? Ep 105EP 105: Gone to the Dogs with Andy White
EAndy White checked all the boxes in my search for a unique guest for this podcast. Andy hunts coons in an unlikely place in the country, he works close to nature in both of his occupational pursuits, and he hunts a breed of dog of which I have no experience but is a breed in which I’ve been interested for a long period of time, the Yellow Black Mouthed Cur. Andy and I discuss coon hunting in the frigid North, coon populations, unique hunting methods and the size of the native U. P. raccoon. Andy also draws the differences in hunting with the cur dogs and the English Coonhound he recently acquired. If you have wondered if perhaps a cur dog is for you, this episode should answer your questions about the breed. You may want to put on a wool hunting coat, add a log to the fire and grab something to warm your innards as we go coon hunting Yooper-style. We would like to thank those who support this podcast.
