The He-Man with the She-Weakness | What Not to Do With Your Life

In any marathon, the runners who jump out in front at the beginning are rarely the ones in front at the end. In fact, if a person isn’t careful how he runs, he probably won’t finish first and may not finish at all. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how even the strong can be brought to weakness. It’s a lesson on spiritual integrity and resisting those things that can derail our faithfulness to God. Pastor Greg begins by directing us to our Scripture text. The Writing Is On the Wall | No Regrets

“If I had only known.” It’s a sentence filled with regret. “If I had only known that would be the last time I’d see my mom.” “If I’d only known the house wasn’t safe to live in, or the water wasn’t safe to drink, or the car wasn’t safe to drive.” Many may have a similar regret when they one day stand before the Lord. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie brings us face to face with the regret that enveloped a certain Old Testament king. It serves as a strong warning to all of us. The Writing Is On the Wall | Robust Faith

Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. That was an exhortation from the Apostle Paul in First Corinthians. We DO the work of the Lord, and we’re to BE steadfast and immovable. When the winds of change blow through our culture, we’re to be solid as a rock. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out how to do that as we consider a man who showed us how NOT to do that. We’re considering an epic failure in the Old Testament. How to Deal with Trials and Temptations | Sunday Message

How to Deal with Trials and Temptations | Sunday Message Greg Laurie gives us guidance on overcoming trials that come our way from James 1. Pastor Greg Laurie begins a new series in the book of James called Walk this Way with a message titled “How to Deal With Trials and Temptations.” We all go through unique trials and temptations. In fact, it is a good sign that you are walking in the right direction. It is through the toughest trials and temptations that we learn the most and can become healthier, better followers of Jesus Christ. Listen in for good encouragement! Notes God allows trials to strengthen us because He wants to use us! What Jesus is saying is, “Satan will not be able to stop you!” The Epistle of James is for suffering people. James and the family did not believe in Jesus until His resurrection. 1. Living a perfect Christian life will not convince some people. The resurrection of Jesus turned James around. 2. Make a choice to rejoice when you go through trials. “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.” —James 1:2 The more we rejoice in our testings, the more we realize they are not liabilities but privileges. They are ultimately helpful, not harmful; no matter how severe they may appear. Job gave thanks. It is very easy to only want to give thanks when we feel like it, but according to Scripture, it is something the believer is to do regardless of circumstances. “Gratitude reduces toxic emotions ranging from envy and frustration and reduces depression, and actually increases happiness.” —Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D. Thankful people are happy people! 3. Trials happen to make us stronger in every way. In Greek, “The testing of your faith produces ‘patience’” actually translates to, “toughness,” or “fortitude.” Trials are like God’s gym, where we are broken down to be built up. God has a purpose for every trial. Spiritual strength will come through trials. Jesus would come in His time and in His way because of His love! Jesus delayed His arrival so He could bring greater glory to His name. Jesus loves us and wants to be glorified through our lives. Two words stand out against Paul’s travesty of tragedy: “Nevertheless God!” 4. It is through trials that we learn great wisdom. Through knowledge, we have learned how to travel faster than sound, but we show our lack of wisdom by going faster in the wrong direction! 5. God will enable us to endure and get through times of temptation. Where does temptation come from? Answer: We play a key role in our own temptation by giving Satan our cooperation. Where there is no desire on our part, then there is no temptation. The temptation itself. You are now under its power and are enjoying the experience. You are now almost hooked. “Drawn away by his own desires and is enticed.” —James 1:14 The lethal effects of sin kick in. “And sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” —James 1:15 Temptation often comes after great times of blessing! We will go through times of trial. We need to make the choice to rejoice in times of trial. God will guide you and give you the wisdom you need. Temptations will come, but there is always a way out! Jesus suffered and died for your sin, so you can be forgiven! Scripture Referenced John 7:5 1 Corinthians 15:4, 7 Job 1:21 Hebrews 12:11 Romans 5:3 John 11:4–7 2 Corinthians 7:5–6 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. The Biblical Worldview on the Afterlife | Who Goes to Heaven?

People can talk all day about what it takes to get to Heaven. Inevitably, the discussion touches on the golden rule, and includes phrases like “be true to yourself” and “it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re sincere.” People can be sincere and sincerely wrong at the same time. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie goes straight to Scripture for the real answer. If we want to know how to get to Heaven, it’s best to ask the God of Heaven. How to Divorce-Proof Your Marriage | Sunday Message

In this Sunday episode, Pastor Greg Laurie concludes his current series, Am I Doing This Right? with a message titled “How to Divorce-Proof Your Marriage.” Listen in and learn how to strike the word “divorce” from your vocabulary and put your spouse first in all things. Notes “I would give my entire fortune for one happy marriage.” —J. Paul Getty If you do not work on making your marriage stronger, it will slowly but surely die. 1. Selfishness (one word to sum up what breaks most marriages apart). The problem more likely is you. Marriage is not about finding the right person but being the right person. People are so obsessed with themselves. The origins of sin, selfishness, and the focus on ourselves came from the fall. “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” —Genesis 3:16 The term desire means to, “compel, impel, urge, or seek control over.” (Same word used when the Lord warned Cain later in Genesis.) Sin wanted to master Cain, but God commanded Cain to master sin! God is saying to Eve, as a result of sin, “you will want to control the man.” God is saying to Adam, “You will want to rule over and dominate the woman.” The curse on Eve (and woman) would be a desire to control man. The curse on Adam (and men) would be the desire to control women. 2. Communication breakdown. Learn to listen. “Only a fool answers a matter before he has heard it.” —Proverbs 18:13 Avoid raising your voice. If you feel anger building (if necessary) walk away. Once you have had your disagreement, try to find a resolution, and then forgive! Fight to resolve, not to win. 3. Adultery. Sow a thought, reap an act. Sow an act, reap a character. Sow a character, reap a destiny. In the New Testament, there are 26 references to Pornea. Our bodies are not made for it (1 Corinthians 6:13). We should not seek it out (1 Corinthians 7:2). We should run from it (1 Corinthians 6:18). You do incredible damage to yourself. “When adultery walks in, everything worth having walks out.” You do incredible damage to your spouse; trust is broken. You do incredible damage to your children. You do damage to the church. You do great damage to your witness and the cause of Christ. You sin against the Lord Himself. Note: They said, “Command.” Jesus said, “Permitted.” 1. Divorce is allowed when sexual immorality takes place. Immorality is not only grounds for divorce; it is also grounds for forgiveness. 2. The only other reason God gives for divorce: desertion. “Am I loving my wife as Christ loves the church?” “Am I respecting my husband and submitting to his leadership?” “Am I denying myself and putting the needs of my mate above my own?” 1. Walk with God. 2. Walk with your spouse. 3. Do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. 4. Count the cost. Jesus responded, “Let him that is without sin among you cast the first stone.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more!” Scripture Referenced James 4:1–2 2 Timothy 3:1–2 Genesis 4:7 Ephesians 5:28 Philippians 2:3–5 James 1:19 Ephesians 4:31–32 Ephesians 4:26 Matthew 5:27–28 1 Corinthians 6:16–18 1 Corinthians 7:13, 15 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. The Biblical Worldview on Overcoming Fear & Worry | Rejoicing

How to Get a New Husband | Sunday Message

In this special message, Cathe Laurie joins Pastor Greg to speak to women on being godly wives. Let’s set what culture says aside and instead turn to God’s Word for biblical insight on marriage. It’s a message you won’t want to miss! Notes If we want a marriage and family that succeeds, we must do it as God tell us to! H. O. P. E Holding On with Patient Expectation. “Victory is not won by evacuation.” —Winston Churchill 1. Be the best version of yourself that you can be. Proverbs 31 speaks of a balanced woman strong in every way. The Bible reminds us to not focus on outward appearance alone. The Godly woman focuses primarily on the internal but does not forget the external. The word adornment is “cosmos” in Greek. Note: The Bible does not forbid women to look attractive. Paul gives a balanced view of a balanced believer. The godly woman is known for her wisdom as well as her beauty. 2. Respect your man. For a wife to win her husband requires her to respect him. “When a husband feels disrespected, it is especially hard to love his wife. When a wife feels unloved, it is especially hard to respect her husband.” —Dr. Emerson Eggerichs God is not calling on wives to feel respect; He is commanding them to show respectful behavior. Let your beauty be primarily inward, but don’t forget the outward. Respect and honor your husband. Focus on actions over words to influence your husband. A man needs to listen to what his wife has to say. A woman needs to avoid the temptation to nag. T. – True H. – Helpful I. – Inspiring N. – Necessary K. – Kind Often in communication, we are speaking from different perspectives. 3. Submit to the leadership of your husband. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” —Galatians 3:28 The husband has the God-given responsibility to provide, protect, and lead just as the Lord does for the church! “But Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” —Acts 5:29 Scripture Referenced Song of Solomon 1:10 1 Timothy 4:8 Proverbs 31:26, 30 Ephesians 5:33 Proverbs 31:26 Proverbs 19:13; Proverbs 21:19 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Life's Most Dangerous Word | Classic Crusade Message

In this classic crusade recording, Pastor Greg Laurie preaches a message titled, "Life's Most Dangerous Word." From this crusade event, we see the power of the gospel to change you and the power of God to satisfy your deepest longings. Speaking to a large crowd, Pastor Greg gives tragic examples of people who pursue happiness and cannot find it in this world. The answer, we learn, is only found in a relationship with God, and we're invited to believe on the name of Christ today—not tomorrow. Pastor Greg Laurie states, "Life's most dangerous word is tomorrow. Tomorrow sounds so innocent, but it's life's most dangerous word. Tomorrow is the road that leads to the town called Never. Tomorrow is the barred and bolted door that shuts people out of Heaven." If you would like to learn more about having a personal relationship with God, just go to KnowGod.org. How to Do Marriage Right | Sunday Message

Hear what Pastor Greg Laurie has to say about doing marriage God’s way! Husbands, this one’s especially for you! Notes A successful marriage is a total commitment. Wedlock should be a padlock. 1. God created marriage. Before God created the church, before God created the state, before God created the school, God created marriage. As marriage goes, so goes the family. As the family goes, so goes the nation. Satan hates what God loves. And the man said, “This is now bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.” —Genesis 2:23 The Garden of Eden was perfection. Some are called to singleness, and for them, friendship can fill this gap. Neither Jesus nor Paul the apostle were married. 2. To have a marriage that works, requires you to do two essential things: leave and cleave. The Hebrew word for leave is often translated as “abandon.” The Hebrew word for cleave means, “to glue, to cling.” Companion: One you are united with in thoughts, goals, plans, and efforts. To dwell means, “to be aligned to or give maintenance to.” Keep working on, maintaining, cultivating, and strengthening your marriage, because the moment you stop progressing, you potentially start regressing. 3. Men hold the key to a happy and working marriage. Note: Paul takes more time and gives more space to what he says to the husband than he does the wife. A successful marriage is not about finding the right person; it is being the right person. 4. Doing marriage right requires constant communication. “A good marriage consists of two good forgivers.” —Ruth Graham “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” —Proverbs 31:28 5. Doing marriage right comes back to a commitment you reaffirm every day. Marriage is tough. Dating reveals the best of you. Marriage reveals the worst of you. 6. We need the power of the Spirit to be a good spouse. The filling of the Holy Spirit will empower you to be a Godly spouse. The wife cannot submit to her husband without the filling of the Holy Spirit. If you are a Spirit-filled person, you will be a submitting person. If you are a Spirit-filled person, you will think of others over yourself. Wives are called to submit to the loving leadership of their husbands. Husbands are to bow to the needs of their wives. It’s not about you; it’s about your mate. Most marriages fail because of selfishness. Note: God uses marriage as a picture of His love for us. Jesus came to the earth and died for your sins; He will forgive you. Scripture Referenced Malachi 2:14 1 Peter 3:7 --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. We throw the word idol around pretty freely in our culture. “So-and-so is a teen idol” . . . “did you watch American Idol?” . . . “Humphrey Bogart was a matinee idol.” But, biblically speaking, an idol is a representation or symbol of an object of worship. “Where Our Focus Should Be” | Today's Daily Devotion from Greg Laurie

In this episode, we’re featuring the audio version of Pastor Greg’s daily devotion. You can get daily emails of this devotion delivered directly to your inbox when you sign up at https://harvest.org/resources/devotions/ or through the Harvest App, available for Android and iOS. --- Where Our Focus Should Be So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, ‘Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?’ (Acts 1:6) After His resurrection, Jesus said to His disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NLT). This statement was prompted by the following question from the disciples: “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” (verse 6 NLT). The disciples thought that the Messiah, Jesus, had come to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. This was why it seemed like a mistake when He was crucified. But as the Scriptures foretold, the Messiah would come first to suffer and die for the sins of the world. Then He would return to Earth and establish His Kingdom therein. Jesus told them, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know” (verse 7 NLT). In other words, “Guys, will you get over this already? I’m not going to establish My earthly kingdom right now. That will come later. Stop focusing on when I’ll return and instead focus on what you are to do until I return.” Today, there are still people asking when Jesus is coming back. And an occasional misguided person will say they know the date of Christ’s return. But Jesus said, “No one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows” (Matthew 24:36 NLT). Our focus, therefore, should be on what we’re supposed to do while we await Christ’s return. The early Church had a job to do, and so do we. Jesus’s words in Acts 1 were not only for the first-century believers. He is still calling us to tell people everywhere about Him.Support the show: https://bit.ly/anbsupportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You’ve Got a Friend | Sunday Message

When it comes to our relationships, we should each ask, “Am I doing this right?” And we should turn to God for the answer. Kicking off a relevant series on relationships, Pastor Greg Laurie explores what the Bible says about godly friendships. Notes In a culture that is redefining everything, we need to go to God’s original plan. A friendship is made up of two people committing themselves to one another. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” We need Godly friendships. You become like the people you spend the most time with. Show me your friends, and I will show you your future. Some people bring joy wherever they go. Some people bring joy whenever they go. Which person are you? “There are friends that destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” —Proverbs 18:24 Look for godly people to be your closest friends. If your friend has no relationship with God, and they are dragging you down, then it could be time to part company. Give serious consideration about who you want to be your friends. Friends matter because you will influence them as they will influence you. As friends, we need to encourage one another, not discourage others. True friends support each other through thick and thin. A friend can help you through the hard times. True friends share their burdens with each other. True friends tell each other the truth. A true friend will tell you when you’re doing the wrong thing, too. “A true friend always stabs you in the front.” —Oscar Wilde True friends resolve their conflicts. “Envy grows naturally in a relationship between equals.” —Aristotle Envy has been described as a small town sin that breeds on proximity. “The wicked envy and hate; it is their way of admiring.” —Victor Hugo Once you have had your disagreement, try to find a resolution. Fight to resolve, not to win. If you go into to win, you lose, even if you win. Try out these eight words that you should be willing to say everyday: “I’m sorry,” “Please forgive me,” and “I love you.” Jesus is the perfect friend. True friends of Jesus obey Him continually. True friends of Jesus obey God in even the smallest matters. Do you have a relationship with God? Jesus is much more than a friend; He is also a Savior.
