The Life of Joseph: The Pain Continues

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us. Sermon: The Life of Joseph – The Pain Continues Introduction: Week three of the Life of Joseph series. Recap of Joseph’s choice to be different and the pain he endured. Today’s focus: “The Pain Continues.” Scripture: Genesis 39:2-3 (Joseph in Potiphar’s house) Genesis 39:6c-15 (Falsely Accused) Genesis 39:19-23 (Joseph Put in Prison) Genesis 40:20-23 (Joseph interprets the dreams of the chief baker and the chief cup bearer) Points: Don’t be surprised at the insult to your injury: Trials and tribulations are rarely one-time events. Satan seeks to add insult to injury to turn us from the Lord. Remember that God can use our pain for our good and His glory. Don’t expect the pain to be over quickly: Biblical stories often span years, not just chapters. Joseph spent 13 years as a slave and prisoner before seeing light. Difficult circumstances can last longer than we expect. Stay faithful: Faithfulness is crucial during prolonged difficulties. Satan tries to break us, but God sustains us beyond our breaking point. Joseph’s faithfulness set the stage for God to use him powerfully. James 1:2-4: Consider it joy when facing trials, as they develop perseverance. Closing: Scripture calls us to be faithful through pain. How will you respond to your trials? The Life of Joseph – A Different Person

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us. The Life of Joseph – A Different Person Introduction: Desire for God to use us in powerful ways. God is in the growing business, not the canning business. Focus on the life of Joseph over the next 5 weeks, exploring his journey and the cost of his gifts. Scripture: Genesis 37:2-11 Points: Joseph is the redeeming son of the family: Joseph is highlighted as the focus of Jacob’s family. Joseph’s brothers were disobedient and disrespectful, involved in various sinful acts (Genesis 34, 35:22, 38). Genesis 49:2-7: Jacob’s final blessings reveal the character of his sons. Joseph did not go with the flow: Joseph chose to stand against his brothers’ wickedness. Personal story of resisting peer pressure. Joseph’s integrity made him trustworthy to both his earthly and Heavenly Father. God gave Joseph a gift: Joseph was gifted with dreams and the ability to understand them. Gifts from God can be frustrating and require maturity to use appropriately. Joseph’s immaturity led him to share his dreams prematurely, causing tension with his brothers. There were immaturities in Joseph’s life: Joseph’s pride led him to share his dreams without understanding their full meaning. Jacob’s wisdom helped him ponder the significance of Joseph’s dreams. Closing: Read Genesis 37-50 to learn more about Joseph’s life. Do you want God to use you? Stand against the flow of the world. Choose righteousness over convenience. Use your gifts for God and the good of others. Prayer: Focusing on Others (continued)

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us. Prayer – 4 – Focusing on Others Introduction: Alright, we are talking about prayer and how prayer is meant to align our will with God’s will. Last week we talked about the calling on our life to pray for others and how we need to pray for others! It does us good to pray for others because it helps us to be more like Christ when we focus on others rather than focusing on ourselves. Today we are compounding on last week’s message. We used 1 Timothy 2:1-4 and we are going to use that verse again, but we are going to focus on a different part of that passage. Scripture: – 1 Timothy 2:1-4 Points: 1. Who are you praying for? – Proverbs 28:2 2. How thankful are you for them? – Romans 13:1-2 3. How much do you want it? Ending: Wouldn’t it be so much better as Christians if we weren’t always trying to find that one candidate who is going to represent all the Christianity stands for! How much better would it be if everyone was saved! How much better and easier would it be if every candidate was a born again Christian? How awesome would it be if God radically saved the person in office so that every time they spoke on tv instead of offending people, they presented the Gospel to the world. The only way that is going to happen is if Christians do their jobs and pray for everyone. The people around us, the people in leadership; everyone! – Colossians 1:15-16 If you would like to watch our past services, you can do so here: https://gcwesleyan.org/teaching/ Like and subscribe to our new YouTube channel, Graham Chapel Youth! Prayer: Focusing on Others

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us. Prayer – 3 – Focusing on Others Introduction:We are in our third week focusing on prayer and how prayer is intended to help align our will with God’s will. Last week we talked about having an attitude of gratitude. We are called to come before the Lord with praise and thanksgiving. And the need to make it the first thing we do and the last thing we do as we interact with God is so important. Today as we talk about prayer and aligning our will with God’s we are talking about the need to Focus on Others during our prayer. Everything about God’s character has always been to bring all people into his presence. Everything about the sacrifice of Christ was to make salvation possible for the entire world. We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. We are called to be like Christ. But we cannot be like Christ if we are not concerned about others. And what we pray about reveals what our heart is concerned about. Scripture:– 1 Timothy 2:1-4 Points:1. If all of your prayers were answered, who would benefit?– James 5:162. How thankful are you for all people?– Matthew 19:133. Who are you interceding for?– Romans 8:34– Hebrews 7:254. What does God want?– 2 Peter 3:9 Ending:   It is important for you to pray for others because everything hinges on God’s desire for people to be saved.  He came to earth, suffered, bled and died so that all people could be saved.  It is the greatest desire of God!  Do you really want your will to be aligned with God’s will?  How much time are you spending praying for the one thing that God wants more than anything else? Prayer: An Attitude of Gratitude

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us. Prayer – 2 – An Attitude of Gratitude Introduction:As we talk about aligning our will with God it is very important to understand some things that we are called to do as Christians in order for our wills to actually align with God. We need to be worked on, prepped, and softened for our wills to be aligned with God and a lot of that preparation begins with praise and thanksgiving! Another word that can encompass Praise and Thanksgiving is gratitude. The practice of being grateful for what we have, for acknowledging blessings, and acknowledging what God has done can powerfully change your life and change your relationship with God! There have been a lot of studies of late dealing with gratitude and whether or not practicing gratitude can have an impact on your life. Harvard Health published an article in 2021 talking about the various studies that professors and universities have done around the country on gratitude and found that simply acknowledging good things in your life, thanking others, simply writing things down on paper that were good had a drastic impact on a person’s overall happiness, positively impacted their relationships with others, as well as decreased health issues and visits to the doctor. The Greater Good Magazine published an article in June of 2017 that talked about how mental health organizations are incorporating gratitude into their process of treating patients. It said in the article that, “many studies over the past decade have found that people who consciously count their blessings tend to be happier and less depressed.” Who would have thought that the God of the universe has been teaching his follows to begin all things with praise and thanksgiving. God knew the power that gratitude would have in our lives from the very beginning. He programed that into our beings in the very beginning and it is a very important part of being a follower of Christ. Scripture:– 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Points:1. Make a List!– Psalm 9:1-22. Express Gratitude first and last!– Psalm 92:1-23. Cling to the Eternal!– Corinthians 15:57 Ending:No one in the world was more afflicted than Job. His oxen and donkeys were stolen, his workers killed. His sheep and shepherds were burned up by fire from heaven. His camels were stolen and servants killed. All his children were killed all at once by wind. His health was taken from him and he suffered greatly. His wife encouraged him to curse God and die. His friends accused him of sin. Even though he was afflicted by all this Job had the incredible attitude of gratitude and proved it by…– Job 1:20-21 Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves and the world where it all came from and who is in control.  If you would like to watch our past services, you can do so here: https://gcwesleyan.org/teaching/ Like and subscribe to our new YouTube channel, Graham Chapel Youth!
