Show Notes

Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us.

Introduction:

  • Final sermon in the series on prayer.
  • Emphasis on praying for our enemies, the most challenging aspect of prayer.
  • Reminder that this sermon was planned months in advance and is not directed at anyone specific.

Scripture:

  • Matthew 5:43-45a: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
  • Luke 6:27-28: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who hurt you.

Points:

  1. You have to be willing to listen:
    • Jesus acknowledges the difficulty of this command.
    • Proverbs 16:20: Those who listen to instruction will prosper.
  2. Just start praying:
    • Begin praying about the person and situation, even if it’s difficult.
    • Luke 22:34: Jesus prayed for forgiveness for those who crucified Him.
  3. Love comes in time:
    • Focus on praying for your enemies, and love will come with time.
    • Personal story of an enemy who later became an advocate.
  4. This is one of the greatest works in a Christian’s life:
    • Loving your enemies is a powerful witness to others.
    • 1 Peter 3:9: Do not repay evil with evil, but with a blessing.

Closing:

1 Peter 3:10-12: Seek peace and do good; the Lord watches over the righteous and hears their prayers.
