Welcome Graham fam! We are so glad you could watch Sunday morning online with us.
Introduction:
- Final sermon in the series on prayer.
- Emphasis on praying for our enemies, the most challenging aspect of prayer.
- Reminder that this sermon was planned months in advance and is not directed at anyone specific.
Scripture:
- Matthew 5:43-45a: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
- Luke 6:27-28: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who hurt you.
Points:
- You have to be willing to listen:
- Jesus acknowledges the difficulty of this command.
- Proverbs 16:20: Those who listen to instruction will prosper.
- Just start praying:
- Begin praying about the person and situation, even if it’s difficult.
- Luke 22:34: Jesus prayed for forgiveness for those who crucified Him.
- Love comes in time:
- Focus on praying for your enemies, and love will come with time.
- Personal story of an enemy who later became an advocate.
- This is one of the greatest works in a Christian’s life:
- Loving your enemies is a powerful witness to others.
- 1 Peter 3:9: Do not repay evil with evil, but with a blessing.
Closing:
1 Peter 3:10-12: Seek peace and do good; the Lord watches over the righteous and hears their prayers.
