Ep 114The Power of The Enneagram With Dr. Tom LaHue : Enneagram Superstar
Welcome to the Obsessed Podcast, where we dive deep into all things Enneagram with the Enneagram superstar, Dr. Tom LaHue. In this episode, we will explore the nine different Enneagram types and how the Enneagram can change relationships. We are joined by co-hosts Life Coach Brittni Finlay and Enneagram Enthusiast and Pampered Chef Phenom Teri Bales. Learn more about Dr. Tom @ https://tomlahue.comThe Enneagram is a personality typing system that helps individuals understand themselves and others better. There are nine different Enneagram types, each with its own unique motivations, fears, and behaviors.Type 1, also known as the Perfectionist, is driven by a desire to be good and right. They have a strong sense of right and wrong and are motivated by the need to improve themselves and the world around them.Type 2, the Helper, is motivated by a desire to be loved and needed. They are often generous and giving, but can also be manipulative in their efforts to help others.Type 3, the Achiever, is driven by a desire to succeed and be recognized for their accomplishments. They are often goal-oriented and can struggle with feeling like they are never doing enough.Type 4, the Individualist, is motivated by a desire to be unique and special. They are often creative and introspective, but can also struggle with feelings of envy and melancholy.Type 5, the Investigator, is driven by a desire to understand and have knowledge. They are often independent and cerebral, but can also struggle with social interactions and emotional expression.Type 6, the Loyalist, is motivated by a desire for security and stability. They are often loyal and responsible, but can also struggle with anxiety and indecisiveness.Type 7, the Enthusiast, is driven by a desire to experience life to the fullest. They are often spontaneous and adventurous, but can also struggle with impulsivity and avoiding negative emotions.Type 8, the Challenger, is motivated by a desire for control and power. They are often assertive and decisive, but can also struggle with vulnerability and empathy.Type 9, the Peacemaker, is driven by a desire for harmony and peace. They are often easy-going and adaptable, but can also struggle with indecisiveness and avoidance of conflict.Understanding the Enneagram types can help individuals better understand themselves and others. It can also provide insight into how different types can interact and affect one another in relationships. For example, a Type 2 and Type 8 may struggle in a relationship because the Type 2 may feel overshadowed by the Type 8's assertiveness and need for control. Similarly, a Type 4 and Type 7 may struggle because the Type 7's desire for constant stimulation may clash with the Type 4's need for introspection and emotional depth. However, through understanding and awareness of each other's Enneagram types, individuals can learn to navigate these differences and strengthen their relationships. This can include practicing empathy, communication, and understanding each other's motivations and fears.Learn more about Brittni Finlay @ https://uncagedcoach.comLearn more about Teri Bales here: Chef Teri's Website Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Join Julie and Mika as they get deep in conversation with each other about the things that matter the most--what holds us back professionally and personally. According to scholastic.com:Around the age of seven, give or take a year, children enter a developmental phase known as the age of reason. “The age of reason refers to the developmental cognitive, emotional, and moral stage in which children become more capable of rational thought, have internalized a conscience, and have a better capacity to control impulses (than in previous stages),” It’s the time when a child starts to truly grasp the difference between right and wrong, and begins to realize that other people have their own feelings that might not match his or hers.Do you feel that you need to prove yourself to others even though deep in your heart you know you are a rockstar? Why do we need validation from others? Jules and Mika answer this burning question so you can rise to a more conscience life and be the bigger and better version of yourself. It can feel like they are pulling you back into the past, and you struggle to be seen as the person you are now. And it can be even more frustrating when your own family sees you this way. It's important to remember that you are allowed to grow and change, and the same goes for the person you used to be. They may not recognize you now, but that doesn't mean you're not worth their time. But this doesn't have to be a negative experience. If you're prepared for it, you can use it as an opportunity to write, flip, and change the script and storyline to show them how far you've come. That's what we will be talking about in this episode with Valerie Livesay, PhD , the author of Leaving the Ghost Light Burning.Valerie has been thinking about and inquiring into the phenomenon of fallback for more than a decade. Following a career in higher education in both administration and faculty roles, Valerie now serves as the Chief Illuminator at Ghost Light Leadership, where she accompanies individuals through their discovery of self using the analogy of theater to set the stage for their historical and unfolding story. What You Will Learn From This Episode02:51 - All about the fallback theory09:39 - Knowing when you’re in fallback17:15 - Being a character in your own story and the ghost light23:32 - Changing the storyline versus typecasting ourselves27:18 - Being successful and drawing the line*****GET VAL'S AMAZING OFFER: www.ghostlightleadership.comRegister for the Ghost Light 6-week workshop and receive US$250 off the registration fee!Use the promo code: OBSESSED250This promo code is valid for the two cohorts scheduled in 2023 - one starting in January and one starting in April. *****Resources MentionedChuck Palus (Center of Gravity) - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chuck-palus-1001/Check out Valerie’s book here : LEAVING THE GHOST LIGHT BURNINGConnect with Valerie LivesayLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/valerielivesayphd/ Website: https://fallbacktheory.com/ See What Your Obsessed Girls Are Doing and Send Us Feedback!CROWN AND COMPASS | Linktree - https://linktr.ee/crownandcompassgirls-----Get Obsessed with us. Ep 103Obsessed with Turning Hate Into Heroism ft. Ping Pong Diplomat Wally Green
The game of ping pong, also known as table tennis, is often seen as a simple game that anyone can play. However, for Wally Green, ping pong saved his life and opened him up to all the possibilities that life had to offer, from the *mean streets* of the inner city to the international arena. For a guy born into a life of abuse and turmoil, Wally had a chance encounter with the sport that kept him out of jail and gave him a sense of purpose. At first, he was only interested in playing to bully those he saw playing the sport. However, he soon realized that ping pong was more than just a game – it was a way to connect with people. It was a way to build relationships and trust. It was a way to find peace.Wally discovered a talent for table tennis and went on to become a renowned International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tour professional, co-founder of SPiN, and a TEDx speaker. He now travels the world, using ping pong as a way to connect with people and spread the message of peace, even in North Korea. In a world filled with so much hate, it is essential to turn that hate into positive energy. It's time for us to change the landscape. It's time for us to start believing in ourselves and doing the things we're meant to do. It's time to get crap done. Wally has been able to use his story to inspire others and show them that overcoming any obstacle in life is possible. What You Will Learn From This Episode03:08 - Wally’s early beginnings15:12 - Turning hate into positive energy22:53 - Being homeless and getting into the world of ping pong31:32- Co-founding and finding success with SPiN33:46 - Never be afraid to ask for help34:51 - The need for parents to listen to their childrenConnect with Wally GreenWebsite: https://www.whoiswallygreen.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wally-green-4836a5b/ See What Your Obsessed Girls Are Doing and Send Us Feedback!CROWN AND COMPASS | Linktree - https://linktr.ee/crownandcompassgirls-----Get Obsessed with us. What is an archetype? An archetype is a literary device in which a character is created based on a set of qualities or traits that are specific and identifiable for readers. The term archetype is derived from the studies and writings of psychologist Carl Jung who believed that archetypes are part of humanity’s collective unconscious or memory of universal experiences. In a literary context, characters (and sometimes images or themes) that symbolically embody universal meanings and basic human experiences, independent of time or place, are considered archetypes.Today we are talking about FEMALE ARCHETYPES. Ep 90Obsessed with Perfectionism, Failing Brilliantly and Brene Brown ft. Laura Cobb
Special Co-host Julie Riga, author of the best-selling book Stay on Course, podcast host of Stay on Course and Leadership Expert, https://julieriga.com — The fear of failure keeps many people from achieving their dreams and living a life of purpose. We often equate failure with not being good enough or not measuring up to some ideal standard. This way of thinking is actually a form of perfectionism, an unrealistic and harmful belief system. It is the voice in our head that tells us we are not good enough, that we will never be good enough. This voice leads us to believe that failure is not an option. The truth is that failure is an essential part of the human experience. Every time we fail, we get one step closer to our purpose. Without failure, we would never know what we are truly capable of. We would never push ourselves out of our comfort zones. In this episode, Dr. Laura Cobb returns with guest co-host Julie Riga to discuss fighting back against this message of perfectionism and how failure can be a path to educating ourselves towards authenticity and greatness.Dr. Laura is a life coach who empowers high-achieving women to rid themselves of fear, guilt, and shame to proudly and confidently suit up, show up, step up, and speak up at every opportunity. She sees herself as an ordinary woman making extraordinary choices one day at a time. What You Will Learn From This Episode: 02:05 - Failure leading us closer to our purpose and true calling05:01 - Failure as a stepping stone to growth07:42 - Contribution over contamination in a relationship09:51 - Continuing to learn with every additional experience11:02 - Why do we feel we need to be perfect12:09 - The difference between shame and humiliation (Brené Brown)16:41 - Being perfectly imperfect as a parent20:13 - Teaching resilience to our childrenResources Mentioned:Brené Brown’s Atlas of the HeartConnect with Dr. Laura Cobb:Website: https://drlauracobblifecoach.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drlauracobb/Clubhouse: https://ios.clubhouse.com/@drlauracobbConnect with our Guest Co-Host Julie Riga:Website: https://www.julieriga.com/Stay on Course Podcast - https://www.podpage.com/stay-on-course-ingredients-for-success/episodes/ See What Your Obsessed Girls Are Doing and Send Us Feedback!CROWN AND COMPASS | Linktree - https://linktr.ee/crownandcompassgirls_________________________Get Obsessed with us. Obsessed With Stress and Overwhelm (Do Not Listen If You Are Not Ready) with Julie Lokun
bonusStressed? Overwhelmed? We all as humans are likely to do the dance with stress and overwhelm. The human experience is not easy. Deep Breath. It is often so hard to keep going when you get beaten up left and right. But guess what? You have the choice to do things differently. Every day you have the opportunity to start over. This is the gift that we are given as humans. We get caught up in the minutiae of life. We think that what we are doing is the right thing to do because it is comfortable. Comfort is just like routine. Routine is necessary but it is like living in a comfort zone. According to the website science of people: Comfort zoneIf you’re starting at ground zero, this is the state you’re in. It feels secure, and you feel in control because you’re familiar with this space and know what to expect. For instance, eating the same breakfast every morning and denying any other food because it’s not in your routine is a perfect example of staying within your comfort zone.Learning zoneThe learning zone is the cure to the fear zone. As the zone title suggests, this is where you learn about the new endeavor you’re about to engage in and acquire new skills to overcome the challenge. Perhaps you learn about how oat milk is great for you. You watch YouTube videos on how it’s made, making you feel comfortable about adding it to your breakfast menu.Growth zoneHere is where you take what you’ve learned and try it out. The growth zone is where you learn to set new goals and live them out, regardless of how well you do. The goal is to realize your strengths and use them to obtain new outcomes. Get Obsessed with us. Ep 75Obsessed With A Mindset Like Maverick inspired by the movie Top Gun (Maverick)
Are you a rule follower? Is your love for rules allowing you to like a maverick mindset? #breaktherules Inspired by the movie Top Gun and the mindset of Maverick-this is the tools you need to live an unorthodox life. How can we, as humans up our game with emotional integrity? Quite simply it is to take calculated risks and be authentic. Ask yourself- are feeling burnout from doing everything and nothing is happening? If the answer is yes, listen on. Personal and professional satisfaction starts with self-awareness. Life satisfaction starts and begins with living an unorthodox life. Building your personal or professional brand begins on a journey of discovery. The Maverick-Inspired tips to holistic growth:Tip #1: The MissionFirst and foremost, our favorite tool is writing a mission statement. There is profound power in seeing the foundation of your vision and values scrawled on paper. A mission statement cannot simply be written and read.Your mission statement needs to be lived.A mission statement needs to articulate why you exist, what you stand for and the goals you strive for. On paper, your mission statement is powerful. However, inaction nullifies your mission. A mission statement is only powerful when you take inspired action.I am obsessed with the power of a mission statement. It can be a confusing exercise in putting pen to paper-so I often recommend Franklin Covey's Mission Statement Builder. This mission statement builder is easy to follow and prompts you with questions to curate a statement that reflects where you are and where you want to go.For more about living a maverick mindset listen to our episode on The Mediacasters featuring Garry E. Hall!Post Script:We just had the opportunity to interview the original Maverick, helicopter pilot, and really nice human and family man, Rear Admiral Garry E. Hall. Ep 74Obsessed With The Power of The Enneagram Personal Assessment Tool
What is the Enneagram?Truity.com explains:According to the Enneagram, each of the nine personality types is defined by a particular core belief about how the world works. This core belief drives your deepest motivations and fears — and fundamentally shapes a person's worldview and the perspective through which they see the world and the people around them. Our core beliefs are not necessarily incorrect, but they can be limiting and operate as “blinders” for people. Understanding our Enneagram type and how it colors our perceptions can help us to broaden our perspective and approach situations more effectively.Understanding a person's Enneagram type helps us to see why they behave the way they do. Each Enneagram type has a set of core beliefs that will consistently motivate them to take particular actions and guide them to make certain decisions. Behavior that may seem confusing or contradictory can often be explained when we understand a person's Enneagram type. The Enneagram also helps us understand how people react to stress. By describing how each Enneatype adapts and responds to both stressful and supportive situations, the Enneagram shows opportunities for personal development and provides a foundation for the understanding of othersWhat is the enneagram?According to Truity.com: The Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. The Enneagram describes nine personality types and maps each of these types on a nine-pointed diagram which helps to illustrate how the types relate to one another.Check out Truity.com for a free personality assessment and let us know what you think!Get out of your own way and start demanding joy and happiness in your life. She has combined her 30+ years of movement practices, photography, editing, speaking, and directing to curate The herStories Collection, producing close to 100 documentaries since the pandemic began. These are meant to educate, inspire, empower and open our hearts and minds to what is possible, helping Womxn unlock emotions that have provided breakthroughs and new perspectives about who they are and what is possible in their lives. This movement has crossed three oceans and four seas, landed in five countries, and has impacted countless Womxn worldwide to help them find radical acceptance for themselves and humanity. What You Will Learn From This Episode02:30 - Finding our radical acceptance03:56 - Jen’s journey towards radical acceptance 10:00 - Empowerment and moving away from shame or judgments 11:28 - Shifting the mindset of humanity, one story at a time17:49 - The power of gesture Resources MentionedBrené Brown’s 30 core emotions: https://brenebrown.com/resources/list-of-core-emotions/Atlas of the HeartConnect with Jen Aks-NeumanWebsite: www.herStories.org YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGKIS8IFZtRM53mkTFlKLCic51YYCq8F- Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/herstoriestold LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/71042296/admin/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/herstories_told/ See What Your Obsessed Girls Are Doing and Send Us Feedback!CROWN AND COMPASS | Linktree - https://linktr.ee/crownandcompassgirls Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 69Obsessed with Understanding Shame ft. Elvira Hopper (The Brené Brown Inspired Series)
What is shame?Brené Brown, author of Atlas of the Heart (a book we are obsessed with), defined shame as:The intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love, belonging, and connection. It thrives on secrecy, silence, and judgment, [growing] exponentially into every corner and crevice of our lives.Shame is an often overlooked and misunderstood emotion. Many people do not realize that shame is actually one of the most damaging emotions and can lead to many other problems such as depression, addiction, and eating disorders. In addition, it is an emotion that most people try to avoid. Unfortunately, this often leads to a cycle of shame in which people feel guilty or embarrassed about their actions and then feel ashamed of themselves for feeling those emotions. But, as our guest Elvira Hopper shares with us today, there are ways to break the cycle of shame and start working towards recovery.Elvira talks about living out of alignment with shame for decades in this episode. With her hopes and dreams of being a jazz singer curtailed by her parents' expectations for her, she pursued an inauthentic 6 figure, award-winning medical and Big Pharma career for three decades. While lucrative, this led to several problems, affecting her marriage and life, before she was miraculously gifted with a fast and natural way out of her darkness. Elvira fused her love for performing musically with her healing abilities. She became a coach, sacred sound healer, and professional jazz artist she always was at the ripe sweet age of 51, working and recording on world-class jazz stages with Juno award-winning artists. Her mission is to help co-create heaven on earth by helping heart-centered humans live aligned, authentic & fully self-expressed through her The Love Your Vibe Transformation. What You Will Learn From This Episode00:00 - The idea of shame07:38 - Elvira's experiences with shame10:11 - Feeling like an imposter and being out of alignment15:03 - Breaking free from shame18:04 - Tools for personal development and growth18:58 - Place of service as opposed to getting off on your ego24:31 - Going from shame to upping our gameResources MentionedBrené Brown’s 30 core emotions: https://brenebrown.com/resources/list-of-core-emotions/Atlas of the HeartLisa Pezik’s Too Big For Her Britches: https://www.lisapezik.com/site/toobigforherbritchesStedman Graham and Elvira Hopper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etJRsCGgFxAConnect with Elvira HopperWebsite: www.elvirahopper.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/evhopper/Twitter: https://twitter.com/evhopperInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/evhopper/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elvira-v-hopper-6199058/Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-love-your-vibe-podcast/id1609928435See What Your Obsessed Girls Are Doing and Send Us Feedback!CROWN AND COMPASS | Linktree - https://linktr.ee/crownandcompassgirls Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Obsessed With This Life Hack That Will Change Your Life ft. Julie Lokun
bonusThis is the one hack that can change the way you navigate life. In this minisode of Obsessed listen to Jules explain how you can deal with life's biggest challenges. If you are navigating parenting or a difficult relationship or career upset-listen to today's episode of the #obsessedpodcast. We have no control in life. Period. As humans, we think we have control. We want to have control over our relationships, our careers and our kids. And when we are met with drama or trauma, we have the choice to react. This is the one thing we have control over. We have the power to navigate our reactions. Breaking down this relatively simple concept into small, bite-size pieces will make it easier to digest the overall profundity of the 3 words. Understanding that you have the innate choice of how you respond to and process a situation can shift a bad day at the office to a productive day learning how to nuance challenging conversations with colleagues. (LIFE SKILL--SCORE) With a snap of the fingers- you can go from having a bad day at work to a day of personal growth. EXAMPLE 1: UNDERSTANDING WHAT A NEUTRAL EVENT IS AND HOW TO REFRAME THIS EVENT* A neutral event is just that. Neutral. One without meaning. We as humans attach our own meaning to these neutral events. What if we have the power to actually change the meaning of an event? The Obsessed Hosts LOVE the works of Victor Frankl. His book "Man's Search For Meaning" is a must-read. The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance.” ― Viktor E. Frankl Get Obsessed with us. Ep 68Obsessed With US and Lessons From Masters
After over a year together, the Obsessed team, Julie Lokun, Tia Walden, and Mika Altidor share their insights from lessons learned from expert guests in personal development. Listen to this intimate conversation on how this little podcast has changed so many lives--including ours. This roller coaster of life, at points, seems unfair. Especially when we are thrust into a traumatic situation. We have the privilege of talking with amazing experts every day. This privilege is not taken lightly. In fact, we believe it is our duty to be the ambassador for their platforms as they give of their selves tirelessly to mend broken spirits. Our conversations weave in and out of grief, trauma, resilience, toxic families, reactive situations and so much more. We have been educated by the best and today, I share the wisdom imparted to me by these prolific professionals. QUESTION:Are you stressed out? Are you reeling from a trauma? Are you in the middle of a life-altering adjustment? If so, this episode is for you. If not, read on because the tools that you learn when life is smooth will be the weapons you have to fight when life gets really rocky.Lessons From The Masters:One of our lessons learned was about grief. Grief is a lesson these obsessed girls have met in the past year and we believe Heidi Dunstan was put into our lives for a reason. Heidi Dunstan: Grief Advocate and Leader in Loss. Heidi has taught us a new narrative when talking to someone who is experiencing loss. Loss can look like death, a job loss, a breakup, or even something transitional like a move. Heidi lost her husband, unexpectedly the day before her 40th birthday and is now a warrior in grief awareness. Heidi taught me what matters most is that you are there for your person. Loss is triggering for us, and often we are immobilized and unable to find the right words to comfort those closest to us. Just being there is often enough. Get Obsessed with us.
