Ep 185E185: Fate will always look after you if you give it a chance to do so- Karen Newton Interview
Pete is joined by self-proclaimed nomad, author and entrepreneur of the year Karen Newton to discuss her work around the globe and her journey to success. Together they discuss the importance of understanding different cultures, how journaling can allow you to feel better and why fate will always look after you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Travelling, living and working in different countries will allow you to understand different cultures and the way they operate. Many people have pre conceptions of places without ever having experienced them first hand. Start each day by writing in your journal. Write down every single thought you have in your head until you cannot write anymore. If you feel frustrated with things, and feel as though things have not gone to plan, utilise your journal and write down your frustrations. Writing things down will help you see it all in a new or different way. Use your journal to talk to yourself. Write your journal as though you are talking to yourself and evaluate what has happened to you that day, and why it has happened to you. Your journal is the key to a lot of stuff, including self-reflection and understanding your feelings towards life situations. Fate will always look after you if you give it a chance to do so. When one door closes, another door opens and you have got to find that door. There is always a reason for that new door, and new changes in your life. If you focus on where the opportunity is going to be rather than focus on what has been shut off behind you then you are able to move forward and listen and look at what is around you and the new opportunities you have. BEST MOMENTS “I feel like I have got an empty mind, I am ready to go and start learning.” “Fate will always look after you if you give it a chance to do so.” “Look at what is around you and you will see the opportunities.” “It has lost its risk to me because I can understand it.” “It was a good learning curve.” “I always wanted to have that glitz and glamour life.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Karen is well travelled, living around the world. At the age of 21, I started learning about hypnosis, psychology and magic of the mind as a way to develop my training. Together with my extensive knowledge of body mechanics, I am able to perform astounding feats of strength and control, using my mind, my body or both. When I’m not developing my own abilities, I spend my time helping individuals and companies to realise their full potential. These days, my principal focus is teaching, speaking and training. However, people learn best when they are entertained, not bored. I spent many years entertaining audiences both large and small at corporate events, night clubs, comedy clubs, weddings and parties — even out on the street! I believe my extensive experience as an entertainer is of immense benefit in my current work. Nobody learns anything when they’re bored! My main theme is, ‘Limitation Is A Mirage’. I show individuals and companies how to get past self-limiting beliefs and practices, and start the real process of turning dreams, goals, ambitions and targets into reality. I’m also known as ‘The Prove-It Guy’. I think audiences, especially in the corporate sphere, have had enough of words that sound good but don’t connect with the practical concerns of running a successful business. Every principle I teach, I can demonstrate. Everything I demonstrate, I can teach.” ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 184E184: Do What Makes A Good Life For You: Lyn Lindbergh Interview
In today’s episode Pete is joined by author, podcaster, fitness influencer and founder of Couch To Active, Lyn Lindbergh to discuss her business venture and why it means so much to her. Together they explore the benefits of beings active and the importance of being a kind, compassionate person and why love and relationships are the most important thing in our lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Getting active is the one thing you can do that will help your health that is free and has no ill side effects. Although there are all of the benefits associated with getting active, it remains the most underused tool that people use. If you are caught with a chronic illness which sees you in bed every day, it is even more important for you to be active but the barriers you have to get there are sometimes tough to overcome. ‘Should’ is a word of frustration. If you are saying ‘should’ you are saying you are not happy with how things are in your life right now. There are some non negotiable ‘shoulds’ in life. We all should be kind, compassionate and caring to one another. As far as your own life goes, you should have the freedom to explore and do what makes a good life for you. Love the people around you. When you see someone you love decline within themselves, you realise that life really comes down to relationships and love. These are the two things that only really matter at the end of it all. We have issues as a globe that need solving and we have huge problems in the world that need to be addressed but overall, we are way more aligned in agreement on life in general than social media will lead you to believe. It is unfortunate that we have this sense of these huge divides. With listening, there is a way to find commonalities, build bridges and solve those issues. When you really understand that you are nearing the end of your life and you come to think about your bucket list, the concept of skydiving, underwater sea diving and other wild tasks you may have previously put on it become meaningless. BEST MOMENTS “With all of that, it grew me up and I am able to do what I am doing today.” “Do what makes a good life for you.” “I am right where I am supposed to be.” “There is such a need there, I would love to fulfil that need.” “In the end it is really love and the people in my life that really matters.” ABOUT THE GUEST “I am Lyn Lindbergh, the author of the 6x award winning book COUCH to ACTIVE: The Missing Link that Takes You from Sedentary to Active, host of the Health and Fitness Motivation podcast, Blogger, Speaker, Coach, Fitness Influencer, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Pilates Instructor, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and President of COUCH to ACTIVE. I am also the author of the upcoming program, How to Start Exercising Again. I call myself "The Bad Couch Guru" because I believe life is more entertaining when you live it with a wink and a smile. I have a degree in Education, and I spent 20 years in fortune 500 corporations in Senior Management roles overseeing training programs for companies in technology, sales and marketing, customer care, banking, aerospace, and healthcare. A few of my previous clients are Microsoft, Boeing, AOL, Praxair Industrial Gases, Philips Healthcare, and T-Mobile. Ep 183E183: We Can Only Help Ourselves: Interview with Trish Duke.
Mindset coach, motivational speaker and mental health advocate, Trish Duke joins the show today to talk through how the last two and a half years have seen her deep dive into strengthening her knowledge of our mind, thoughts and beliefs. Listen in and join them both as they discuss the traits of introverts, how you can help yourself overcome your toughest mental battles and why comparison is the thief of all your joy. KEY TAKEAWAYS Many years ago, mental health had a huge stigma around it and many people felt embarrassed to share their feelings with others, including medical professionals. Mental health was not treated the same way as other illnesses, however you should not be embarrassed about what you feel or felt in the past. What you have experienced has made you who you are today and you are a better person because of it. Being an introvert is wanting to be invited to things, but not wanting to go anywhere. It is being lonely at home and not wanting anyone in your space, unless you really like them. Even if you really like them, you want them to go home soon. Being aware of this is important for people to understand, so they can identify it in themselves or in others, and help to make those who feel like this more comfortable in their own space and at social events. Moving on from mental health illness can be difficult, you could play the victim and feel sorry for yourself, but there is no power in that, and there is no power in sympathy. If you are in bad form, think about what you can do today to help yourself. You cannot expect somebody else to fix you, whilst they can support and guide you , you have to do that work and empower yourself to feel stronger and better within yourself. Don’t compare yourself with other people you know or see online. If you feel like someone is achieving more than you, don’t pit yourself against them, they are in a different place than you. You are facing your own challenge and you cannot compare yourself with anybody because you do not know where they are in their journeys. When you are happy being yourself, only then will you know that you can do anything you put your mind to. It doesn't matter how old you are, you are never too old to try something. If there are still things that you wish to achieve, get into the frame of mind where you know you can achieve it, and find out how to do it. BEST MOMENTS “I want to share my knowledge.” “I just want you to be you, I am so happy to be me.” “Why do you want to bounce back, when you can bounce forward?” “There is so much that I am, that I am not even aware of.” “There is no power in sympathy.” “We can only help ourselves.” ABOUT THE GUEST Trish Duke: “Mindset Coach, Helping You Believe in Your Potential, Working on Your Thoughts, Beliefs, Habits, Self Image, So You Can "BE YOU, FOR YOU". Ep 182E182: You Only Have To Get It Right Once - Arnon Barnes Interview
International Speaker, Peak Performance Trainer and Business Mentor, Arnon Barnes joins Pete today to discuss self-sabotage and fear and how you can overcome these emotions. Arnon explains how fear is holding you back from achieving your goals, how strength and confidence comes from within and the importance of taking actions immediately, that your future self will look back on and thank you for. KEY TAKEAWAYS It doesn't matter how many times you fail because ultimately, you only have to get it right once. If you get it right once, you will change your life forever. Sometimes you may have to work hard for ten years until you get that one year that will change everything. From a fundamental standpoint when people say that they have a fear of poverty, all they are really saying is that they do not trust themselves. When you trust yourself and you own your power, having no money doesn’t matter because you know you will figure it out eventually. Unfortunately, because we are programmed to fear poverty, many people work 9-5 until they are 65 and do not explore achieving their dreams. Fear is holding you back from going for your goals, not danger. People perceive reaching for your goals as dangerous, but nothing is going to happen to you if you go to new meetings and create new opportunities, even if they do not work out initially. Learn from your mistakes and come back stronger and with a better offer. If you want to have more money, more success, better health and be kinder, then you need to change. Everybody is looking outside for answers, but when you take responsibility and you look within you will realise that your strength, confidence and talents live within you. This is when things start to transform, and that is leadership. Everybody has their own story that they are telling themselves, and everyone has two representatives. One representative that is empowering us and one that is not, the question is, which one do you listen to more? People put so much attention and attachment on money when you detach yourself from it, you will become empowered. People sabotage themselves because they do not have a clear vision of what they want to achieve in the future. So many people sabotage themselves because they get caught up in their emotions. Instead of being the eye of the storm they are the storm. Make a decision today that your future self will thank you for. Take an action, connect with another person, align with someone who can support you, you will look back on that action and be thankful. A lot of people do not make those decisions because they are afraid. BEST MOMENTS “It is just a mental game.” “You only have to get it right once.” “We all live ourselves forwards, but it all makes sense when we look backwards.” “If you want to have what you want to have you have to become someone you have never been, if you want to be someone you have never been, you have to do things you have never done.” “The secret is to fix your roof when the sun is shining.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Arnon Barnes, International Speaker, Peak Performance Trainer and Business Mentor, teaches business owners the mindset of a winner. He – by own experience and by knowledge – will do anything in his power to let you be the entrepreneur you need to be, making sure every aspect of your life gets better. Arnon’s approach is all about results, business strategies and tactics, but most of all it’s about you. Arnon will give you unconditional and unquestionable support and straight, honest feedback. He takes you out of your comfort zone and tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. He expects a high commitment and a ‘whatever i takes’ mentality of his clients. He will show you what you don’t see yet, leaving you empowered, hopeful and ready for action!” Website: https://arnonbarnes.mykajabi.com/about-arnon LinkedIn: https://nl.linkedin.com/in/arnonbarnes ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 181E181: I Was Open, I Was Courageous: Karen McDermott Interview
Author, publisher and law of attraction expert Karen McDemott joins Pete in today’s episode to talk through how her experience with PTSD led her on the path to self discovery and how she ended up where she is today. Join Pete and Karen as they discuss the healing process, how to set intentions rather than goals and how knowledge can eradicate your fear. KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the finest stages of healing is when you are called to share your story. Hindsight is the most wonderful thing in the world, it gives you the ability to look back and realise that you were ready to process your feelings and release them. If you go through trauma and are not ready to deal with the emotions that come with it, you are in survival mode. Survival mode means you are not ready to heal and do the inner work required to move on from your trauma. With any personal transformation, you cannot just be thrown to the wolves because it is going to stir things up for you. You are going to have new ambitions and are likely to feel imposter syndrome on your new journey. Support is required for you to serve as reassurance and understand that what you are feeling is normal and valid. Setting goals is different from setting intentions. Goals are planned out and you have things in place which you need to do in order to achieve that goal, you are usually too preoccupied ticking off your list in order to reach it. Setting an intention is putting your vision out into the universe and saying that you are committed to that intention. People have forgotten how to ‘know’. So often people go outside for all the answers when really, the answer is within them. Once you have found the answer within yourself, you can go outside and support it happening. If you know the answer yourself why would you let somebody else have that power? Own your power and set yourself intentions and be open to opportunities that may come at you from all around. Knowledge eradicates fear. Fear comes from the fear of the unknown, but when you know where the source of the fear is coming from and understand that you have the power to move through it then the power is yours again. It is amazing to see someone find the fire in their belly to move through their fears. There is room for us all in the world, we do not need to compete. Some people love to compete, and that is fine if that makes them happy. Don’t win things for your ego, win them so that you are more visible and so that you can do more for the people you wish to help. Be proud of your achievements all the same. BEST MOMENTS “When I had this wakeup call I suddenly thought..’I have to share this with people.’” “It was very powerful, I couldn’t ignore it.” “I absolutely adore what I do. It is my purpose. It is my calling.” “It happened because I was open, but I was also courageous.” “I didn't like it, but I didn’t fear it. I knew what I needed to do to get through it.” “I love being positive and I love seeing the bright side.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Karen by her very nature personifies the mystery and intrigue of magic. She has a unique ability to strategically leverage business and magic to help her clients achieve their highest potential. She has alluring and endearing energy that draws people to her. She sees the best in everyone and helps them to see the best in themselves. Inspiring others is her passion. Her journey is filled with success, love and a few mountains to climb. She believes that everyone has a story to share and in the power of writing to heal. Gratitude has been a big part of her life and she has created her dream life through the Law of Loving intention. Karen lives life to the fullest and pursues her heart-centred passion ALWAYS! In doing so she believes that she is true to her life purpose. Through establishing the Making Magic Happen Academy she will inspire others to do the same. An author of novels, non-fiction books, children's books and life-enhancing journals, Karen believes wholeheartedly in the power of the written word. Founder of Serenity Press, a traditional publishing press making waves in Australia, is where Karen has gained most of her recognition. Ep 180E180: If We Learn Nothing From This, Then We Don’t Deserve To Be Here - Margarita Khosh Interview
Healthcare expert Margarita Khosh joins Pete today to discuss the impacts COVID-19 had had on her personal life and the healthcare industry. Together, they talk through the delayed grieving process caused by COVID, how mental trauma will manifest itself physically in you and why understanding the patient experience is the key to better healthcare. KEY TAKEAWAYS The soldier does not have a PTSD episode when they are at war. The soldier has the episode when he comes home. The health care workers are still in the trenches, there is so much trauma that is continuing to happen right now around the world that nobody is grieving yet. COVID is a robbery, it has robbed us of the way that we grieve, we live and mourn. We cannot do anything the way that we are programmed to do. Whatever trauma you go through in your life will manifest itself physically in your body. When the patient is physically unwell, there is no reason why healthcare workers do not address the mental well-being of that patient. If someone is being treated by the Gastroenterologists , then it makes sense for them to be seen by the mental health doctors as well. Systems should be built that align therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists with other healthcare specialists. When this is done, the patient experience is smoother. The patient will be supported in both mind and body. Therapists should be encouraged to discover who their ‘why’ is and who their ideal patient is. When they recognise this they are able to start leveraging relationships with the right kind of referral partners, from the area. BEST MOMENTS “This is when it starts to kick in. This is when the things in the world start to make an impact.” “All of these things fired me up so much that I thought, if we learn nothing from this, then we don’t deserve to be here.” “When we start doing that, then we are actually approaching the patient experience.” “We have two souls and we have two hearts” ABOUT THE GUEST “Your GO-TO Healthcare Strategy Consultant, speaker, moderator, blogger, interviewer, and freelance writer. COVID took my father, so now I simplify and humanize the American health system. My clients are incredible people who include private practice, multi-specialty groups, public health trusts, and healthcare centers. My greatest talent, except my educational event planning? A desire to learn how healthcare operations in other countries can be implemented in the USA to design a system that works for all.” LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/margarita-khosh Company Website: https://mkmedicalsolutions.com ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 179E179: When The Student Is Ready, The Teacher Will Appear. - Scott Schilling Interview
Philanthropist and inspirational mentor Scott Schilling joins Pete today to impart his pearls of wisdom onto us and talk through his journey to success. Together they discuss the importance of sharing your struggles with others, how it can take a major, life changing event to make us realise the fragility of life and how you will only be willing to learn, when you are ready. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are many people out there who believe they are the only ones facing hardships and roadblocks in their life, by hearing your story they are able to understand that they are not alone. Sharing the challenges you have faced in your life with others, gives people the courage move past their own challenges. You don’t get paid by the hour, you get paid by the value you add to the hour. When you can add value to other people, it is amazing what can happen. As you become more mature, the information you have picked up when facing challenging scenarios can serve others as lessons. We are all far more fragile than we tend to think, but we are all far more powerful than we think to. Unfortunately sometimes it takes a major incident to make you realise that you are not bulletproof and you are not immune to things. If you truly want to live out your purpose and you want to do the things you want to do, you may need to examine your life and take different actions. People think that we are all only given two immediate actions, and that is fight or flight, but we have actually been given three emotions, fight flight and freeze. Freeze is actually the most devastating because freeze basically says ‘I am going to stay put”. Without action there is no ability to gain feedback, and grow. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. There will be a time when somebody will impart some wisdom and present a potential answer to a question of yours, if you are ready, you will hear it. It takes a critical mass within you to make things happen, you have to get to that point where you say ‘I am sick and tired, of being sick and tired’ and do something different. Everybody is the most amazing person that they can be. If you want to be more amazing, go and do it. If you want help in it, you can get help, there is a lot of help available. There are people sitting there who would love to help you achieve your goals. Have the courage to take the first step. BEST MOMENTS “A certain amount of ego is fine but when you rely totally on ego it is a person putting themselves up and above and over other people, and the last time I checked, you and I were both created equally.” “Each and everyone of us could say that we could make better choices on a daily basis.” “Most of the time when we take actions, it is actually the wrong actions, the only way to know that, is to take the wrong action.” “You can have everything in life that you want when you help other people get what they want.” “If I can do it anybody can do it.” “If you don’t have the fire in the belly, that's where the problem lies.” ABOUT THE GUEST “I feel extremely blessed to be able to follow my heart and passion to help others through sharing years of experience across a range of industries. When asked what I do, the short answer is: “I help people, help people!” After spending more than thirty years in the sales, marketing, training, management, and speaking arenas, I am uniquely qualified to help individuals and organizations achieve the success they desire. With vast experience over a range of industries, my value-added conceptual expertise in all aspects of business shouts out loud and clear.” Website: http://scottschilling.com/who-is-scott/ Twitter: @ScottSchilling8 ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 178E178: I Went To The University Of Life - Marc Jarrett
Virtual networker extraordinaire Marc Jarrett joins Pete today to talk through his interesting and exciting journey through life. Together they discuss the importance of networking, the freedom that money can bring you and why connecting people is a superpower. KEY TAKEAWAYS Human beings are social animals and that is why what we are all collectively going through right now, is counter intuitive. We are hardwired to network; it is in our DNA. Networking remains an inherent part of our collective condition. The best thing that money can buy is the ability not to have to worry about it. Money brings you the freedom to be able to create your own bucket list. It is important to be aspirational and to want to be better than you currently are. It is important to grow, however most people do not think like that and they live their lives in quiet mediocrity. So many people want to remain in their comfort zone and if anything disturbs that they begin to retract whereas other people thrive on the disruption. Travel really broadens the mind. If you have the chance to experience different cultures you will become richer. Enjoy what you are doing and do it professionally. A lot of people do what they do because they feel that they just need to have a job and that is it. Entrepreneurs do what they do because they enjoy it and are therefore very privileged. If you do what you love you will never work a day in your life. Connecting people is a superpower and not everyone can do it, or wants to do it. Half the battle of getting in front of people is not knowing how to network, or who to network with. Many people are busy people and are looking for a ‘door opener’ to help them meet the people that can help them on their mission. We are ten times more capable that we give ourselves credit for. However, when you take into consideration other people's opinions, news and broadcasts and all the variations of what is being shown in the news, the brain becomes too busy computing all of life's possibilities that the noise of the environment means we do not listen to our own voice. BEST MOMENTS “It got a lot of press because it combined celebrity and technology.” “Because I got distracted by wine, women and songs when I was at school, I didn’t go to university, I went to the university of life.” “I decided, I wanted to get out of my southern metropolitan elite bubble.” “Be your own person.” “We’re all bombarded with constraints on our time. Nobody seems to have much time anymore” ABOUT THE GUEST Marc Jarrett: “When I started my career in Banking, I was sometimes reprimanded - quite rightly - for chatting too much. Ep 177E177: I Am A Better Person - Kathleen Metcalf Interview
Entrepreneur, business owner and leadership mentor Kathleen Metcalf joins Pete today all the way from Vancouver, USA. Kathleen shares her inspiring story of how she became the best version of herself as she talks through her battle with alcoholism and her financial struggles. Together they discuss the importance of not letting yourself be defined by your possessions, how your failures serve as valuable lessons and how to look for evidence of a higher power in your daily life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Overcoming tough challenges in your life such as addictions can help you evaluate what wealth and success looks like to you. Think about how you can make a difference in the world and how you can help others, make that your motivation. Your life story has hope and encouragement for others going through a similar time. When you have nothing, you are able to learn that you are someone. You are not defined by your money, house, car, job or your relationships. You are a person who is no better or worse than anyone. Finding yourself through hardship is so valuable. It is okay to have ‘warts and all’, it is just human and there is nothing to be ashamed of. Your failures will teach you valuable lessons. Your failures didn’t kill you, it may have been ‘evil bruising’ but you survived it. It will all work out for you eventually, that is a sign of a higher power. The world is full of love, life is happening for you not happening to you, you are not a victim of life, you are a participant in life. If you are starting again after losing everything, take things one step at a time. You will need to face yourself and it will all work out eventually. Realise that there are a lot of other people who have had similar things happen to them who are afraid to talk about it and don’t know how to get help. It is okay to be sad and depressed for a day or two. You then need to nurture that flicker of hope a little bit more. Think about who you can talk to, what you can read or watch and take better care of yourself. Then that flicker of hope grows. Look for evidence of a higher power, start noticing all the wonderful things that are happening around you, be they big or small. Surround yourself with people that are a fantastic support. The naysayers, the people that don’t relate and the negative people are the ones you should not hang around with. It is okay for them to be that way, but if that is not the way you want to live your life, avoid them. Live in what is possible, it is more fun, more exciting and it is happier. BEST MOMENTS “In that willfulness, I didn't listen to my intuition.” “It is more and more about how I can make a difference and how I can help others than it is about the fact that I am fine, I didn’t die when I failed.” “I am a very different person, now from then. I am a better person.” “I am in the dance with life and just because I step on my own toes or I rip the bottom of my dress, doesn’t mean that I am not going to keep dancing.” “Look for evidence of a higher power.” ABOUT THE GUEST “Hi there! I’m Kathleen Metcalf. I support, guide and mentor entrepreneurs and business owners to overcome professional and personal obstacles so that they can be the leaders, managers, and team members that they WANT to be. Clients work with me when they’re feeling stuck or lack confidence in knowing how to manage their team. They’re tired of the same kinds of issues coming up without finding resolution. Ep 176E176: The Prove It Guy - Liam O’Neil Interview
Today, Pete is joined by Liam O’Neil aka “The Prove It Guy’ a martial arts expert who is currently teaching, speaking and training individuals and companies to reach their full potential. In this episode Pete and Liam discuss the importance of believing that you can achieve whatever it is you want out of life, how to face your fears and how to change your negative mindset into a positive one. KEY TAKEAWAYS People come from different upbringings and childhoods, you can come from a home where you had nothing or you can come from a home that had everything and still not know what you want to do with your life. If you believe that your childhood dictates the life you are destined to lead, then you absolutely will become that. However, if you are willing to challenge that stereotype and move outside your comfort zone, then you have the ability to achieve whatever you want. You should never worry about what other people think about you. You should only worry about the task at hand. Social media has really made people's self esteem plummet. The obsession with likes, shares and views is terrible because it often makes people change their long standing morals in exchange for likes. People are continuously seeking validation on social media. We are designed to look for negatives, through evolution and our own pasts when it was all about survival. You constantly look for the bad berries, the bad animals and the bad people. We are very good at spotting negative stuff and we continuously look for that. Rather than say ‘what if somebody boo’s my performance’ think to yourself ‘but what if somebody claps’. People are afraid of death but are unwilling to look at why they are afraid of it. If you are experiencing anxiety related to your fear of death it is important to understand where the fears have manifested from. It could be because you are scared to never see your family again, to not travel the world or eat nice meals. Whatever you are afraid of missing out on, make sure you are doing in the present. If you don’t, you are already ‘dead’ as you are living your fear. Whatever you are taught to believe, question it. If you don’t question it then you will believe it and your belief becomes fact, that is how humans seem to work. Every lesson in the world can be amazing and rubbish, it depends on who is learning. BEST MOMENT “It was also the challenge of going back to those people that told me I would make nothing of my life and saying ‘look what I did’. “I just made the decision..something in my head went ‘it is probably a good idea to stick with the KungFu rather than go down that other route.” “No matter who the audience is, I can get them up.” “Sometimes I will let things go, other times I decide to stand up for myself but I am very much an all or nothing, if i decide to stand up for myself then I am going to be the biggest person in the room.” “I want to help people, and if you want to be helped, you will.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Liam O’Neil https://www.limitationisamirage.com “I have been studying Martial arts since I was 16. Ep 175E175: Keep Going Against Everything - Julie Hogbin Interview
Julie Hogbin, a leadership and management specialist with a passion for creating and supporting leaders, joins Pete today to talk about everything from overcoming grief, to conscious leadership. Together, they discuss the changes people go through under pressure, the true meaning of love and the importance of understanding who you truly are. KEY TAKEAWAYS We do change under pressure. Dependent on who we are and what we are, depends how we change. Some people change a lot and it is often a really visible change. Their behaviours will change and the way in which they communicate will change. Others, you won’t show their inner feeling when put under pressure, and eventually they will explode. Self awareness is vital for everyone in regards to their relationships both personal and/or business. It is important to understand who you are as a person, if you are not staying true to yourself then your mood will be drastically altered. We all operate differently. Fire in the belly is that driving force for you. It is that thing that keeps you going against everything and anything. What is love? Intellectually speaking, love is a really strong emotion and you cannot live without someone when you love them. Trying to understand the meaning behind true love and a broken heart is tough and something that is hard to fully comprehend. Core values are traits such as honesty and freedom. Money does not always have to be a part of your core values, if you love what you are doing and are happy in your job you do not have to leave to go to a job that will pay more where you will be less happy. There are things that go before us, that come forward in you. We are generational thinking, we are created by generations that lived before. All our ancestors habits and thoughts live on through us. Whilst we are all our own person their quirks breed down unto us. Create conscious leadership within individuals, business and life. It is important to know why you are doing what you are doing because you lead yourselves first. If you lead yourself well and consciously and that transmutes well to others, then you are consciously living your life. BEST MOMENTS “Who we are is who we are and if we pretend to be anything else then, we are not being who we are and that can affect things drastically.” “I actually think..that she saved my life.” “I am not surprised that's where I am. I can analyse the situation but that doesn’t mean I am dealing with the emotion of the situation.” “I am a caring person for the things that I care about.” “I like myself..but do I love myself?” “We are 95% habit, so 95% of what we do is unconscious. So, how do we know that is right? You have got to unpick it.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Julie Hogbin - https://juliehogbin.com/about-julie-hogbin-business-mentor/ “I have worked with Leadership and Management teams in the Public and Private sectors for over two decades, more recently with Entrepreneurs building their own business & consistently with people who want to change their lives. Ep 174E174: Finding your True Self and Purpose - Interview with Ashling Henderson
In this episode, Pete speaks to Ashling Henderson, a new entrepreneur living in Belfast. Her background is in medical science, she has been a scientist since she left university, but Ashling has decided to take a career break to focus solely on her entrepreneurial journey; founding a health and wellness company. They discuss entrepreneurship, values, mindset, health and more in this thought-provoking and authentic episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ashling recently became self-employed, she is enjoying having life on her own terms but has still found the change a challenge. There isn’t anyone in her family who have tried the entrepreneurial lifestyle or been their own boss, it’s not an environment she has been exposed to until now. Fire in the belly to Ashling means being ambitious, driven and knowing you need to and will excel in something, even if it takes you time to find what that is. The health and beauty industry means that Ashling is putting herself out there a lot. She can sometimes struggle with having to show up as her brave self when there are days when she is feeling a lot less than her best. To get through this she reminds herself that being honest about how she is feeling is important as the more she can be authentic, the better she can then show up for others. Ashleigh says as a child she wasn’t that different to who she is now! She was always open to learning, sporty and confident. She grew up with a great supportive group of friends and family including her siblings. BEST MOMENTS “Everything is really, really exciting at the moment” “I’m the first one in my family to go after that something different” “Adrenaline is my thing” “When I am authentic that’s when I can show up as my best self for other people” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Ashling Henderson ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 173E173: Interview with Cara Macklin
In this episode, Pete speaks to Cara Macklin, an entrepreneur and success coach. Cara grew up in a family business in Northern Ireland in hotels and care homes. She became a director of this business for 15 years until she left to create her own business last year. Today Pete and Cara discuss change, development, business and mindset. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cara has a typical entrepreneurial mindset. She has always looked at change in a positive way and had big ideas and plans. She is constantly looking at what is next, for herself, her business and her clients. Cara has always been unique and an individual. She wished we lived in a culture where people were allowed to just be themselves and were celebrated for their differences. We know human beings are different so why do we try to put them in a system to all be the same. Cara believes everyone has a Fire in the belly, either they haven’t found it yet or it has been put out by another person. To Cara it means a drive and something that has power over you. It can be an incredible force to help you make a positive change in the world but you must be careful because it can also burn you out. Cara believes that if you help people on your team to be the best they can and support them through development then that will strengthen your ability as a leader and make your business more successful. As children we are all creative, but as we become adults our creativity is stifled, by schooling, linear learning and the hierarchy. This then carries on into the world of work, people have incredible ideas but creativity is a muscle and a skill, if you don’t use it you lose it. Creativity isn’t just about the ‘big ticket ideas’. It comes down to a micro level throughout all teams and people. It’s a mindset and a culture that is created to allow people to explore ideas, innovate and thrive. BEST MOMENTS “My middle name is change” “I love more than anything, making a positive change, on things, business, on people and in society and in the world” “I know I can get the best out of people” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Cara Macklin ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 172E172: We Have The Power to Heal Ourselves - Interview with Dr. Serena Goldstein
In this episode, Pete speaks to Dr. Serena Goldstein, a naturopathic dr. They discuss medicine, mental health, self-dvelopment, mindset and more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Naturopathic medication is 4-5 years of medical school, which comprises of the usual medical pathways and education for a Dr but then includes a focus on botanical medicine, nutrition, our physical, hydrotherapy etc. at the end. So, when you finish you are primary care trained but with additional education at the end. As a teenager, Serena did a lot of extracurricular activities including gymnastics and playing trombone. She injured her arm and could no longer do these, which lead to her feeling hopeless and depressed. She decided to do some research into these thoughts and feelings she was having and the more answers she got the more she realised she needed a therapist. She found a great therapist and it inspired her to wanting to get a PHD herself. She went to college and was a psychology major. After speaking with a friend, she then discovered she didn’t understand humanity and its existence and felt she could do more so started to go into medicine. After starting pre-med she visited as naturopathic school and figured out this is exactly what she should be doing with her life. Fire in the belly to Serena means when you have a passion that overrides whatever fear and scripts that are in your head or get in your way. It’s so easy to just believe what you have always believed in without challenging it. But challenging these beliefs, especially self-limiting ones, are how you can move to the next stage of your life, to get to a place where you can be truly and authentically you. We all learn differently and we also learn from different sources in a multitude of ways. Discovering how you learn and what works for you is another key way to tap into self-exploration. When first starting out as a doctor, Serena realised that the medical world is full of specialties and people often need something to ‘latch onto’ before deciding on a Dr. This is why she started to focus on weight and hormones. This was also when she decided to share her own journey and story and found that people were very receptive to this and started to share theirs with her too. In other cultures, they don’t see their patients as ‘victims’. They recognise that there are things going on and then it is their job to figure out how to get them back into balance. Western medicine could learn from this approach. BEST MOMENTS “We have all the tools in our toolbox to not only treat the patient but get to the root of the disease” “Who told us this, where did it even come from and what would happen if?” “We need stress to survive…but we see what happens when we have too much stress” “Health is not different to our lives, it’s part of it” “Who are you outside of Dr?” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Dr Serena Goldstein ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 171E171: My Life is a Blessing - Interview with Brian Kennedy
In this episode, Pete speaks to Brian Kennedy, a dad, runner, husband, speaker and coach living in Dublin. They talk about his childhood, pressure, mindset and more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Brian feels like he is truly blessed for what he has in life. Although he had the traumatic experience of bank robberies, a complicated relationship with his father and suffered a mental exhaustion in 2010 he feels lucky to have experienced what he has and for his beautiful wife and children. The past 10 years of his life have been the happiest in his life, he lives in the present and doesn’t pine for a future as he is living in the now, something that took him a long time to learn. Brian’s mother brought him up to have great respect for women and how to manage relationships. He unfortunately didn’t have a god relationship with his father due to him being an alcoholic, it also led him to be scared about becoming a Dad as he didn’t want to become his father. Brian got a job in 1978 working for hallmark cards and it was an eye-opener for him even though he had worked in a pub previously. He was shocked at how badly his supervisor treated people, he knew if he was in a position of management he wouldn’t treat people in that way, he knew it wasn’t right. It was important for Brian to not disappoint his mother. His drive at a young age was that he just wanted his mum to be proud. Later in life he realised that she would have always been proud of him no matter what. It took Brian to have a crisis in his life to reflect on his Dad’s mistakes and behaviours and then learn that he would not repeat the generational trauma. In Brian’s head he felt like he needed to earn ‘big money’ and provide above and beyond for his family and children. He puts this down to his upbringing and anxiety around money growing up. It simply was not the case though, his families best memories were nothing to do with wealth and things. Ep 170E170: Always Challenging, Always Changing - Interview with Prof. David Gibson
DESCRIPTION In this episode, Pete speaks to Prof David Gibson. David was an accountant but had always had a fascination with personal development. He went back to university but to teach entrepreneurship and created a new career where he was able to make a difference to education and people around the world. KEY TAKEAWAYS David deliberately keeps 20% of his time free so that he has time to be an entrepreneur. He sees himself as an entrepreneur as he is a person of change, he believes we all need to be this so that we are able to evolve and make things happen for ourselves, our families, our community and beyond. Fire in the belly to David means that you hold onto your passion not matter what, that you are a do-er, you are driven and you do not stay the same. We have to all find our niche. It took David a while to find his but he kept exploring until he found it. It was a spectacular journey and once found he was always wanting to do it and it created the fire in his belly. As a child David spent quite some time on his own, creating and coming up with ideas. He was also competitive as well as having an open mind. When he started to enjoy reading at 9 it really opened up his world. He went to grammar school where he did well and then onto university. If you don’t have passion, values and belief behind what you are doing then it will not have the same impact. Anything you do with true passion and motivation will be reflected in the result. BEST MOMENTS “Always challenging, always changing” “We have to adapt and change a be an innovator in our own lives as well as within our job role” “No matter how old you are or where you’re at you can always look back to those core feelings” “The more you do something with joy and passion the better you’ll do it an the more impact it will have” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Prof. David Gibson ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 169E169: Passive Income for a Balanced Life - Interview with Hazel Ruth Thomas
In this episode, Pete speaks to Hazel Ruth Thomas who has a keen passion for creating passive income streams and believes that our work should fit in and around our lives not the other way round. Hazel recently created the concept ‘The Passive Income Mum’ as she is a mum of 3 and wants to get out there and help others to create passive income streams and support them in doing so. KEY TAKEAWAYS Passive income is all about doing a job once and getting paid repeatedly for doing it. Some describe it as a pension style income and is about having money coming in whether you are at work or not. There are many approaches to creating and sustaining a passive income so it can be a bit of a mind field to anyone who is considering it. This is one of the reasons Hazel has created her concept The Passive Income Mum. Hazel is a photographer and she built a photography business. Although it did really well and she loved what she was doing she recognised that she had actually just built herself a job and she didn’t earn money unless she was there ‘creating’ and working. There was no way to outsource what she was doing and she wanted more balance in her life so she made the decision to create passive income streams. Financial freedom is Hazel’s end goal. What this means is she wants more money coming in than she needs to think about, to have everything covered and create a lifestyle where she has multiple choices. Hazel owns a network marketing business which has been perfect for her. She also runs a property company alongside some friends including rent to rents and air bnb as well as being involved in stocks and shares. None of these things are full time but they all work alongside another to give her a passive income that works for her lifestyle. You are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Spend time with those that are where you want to be and if you don’t like the level you are at now then look at the people you are spending time with. The school system is great at giving children the basics but Hazel teaches her children more than this. She wants them to understand how to thrive in life and give them the practical and emotional tools to deal with everything life will throw at them. Your relationship with money and how you decide to use it dramatically affects your lifestyle. You can’t get through life without spending money but think, what you are spending your money on, is it something you need or something that will give you a return or is it just instant gratification? BEST MOMENTS “It gives you options, it gives you choices” “I genuinely just love helping people” “It’s all about giving myself options and spreading the balance across a few areas” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Hazel Ruth Thomas ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 168E168: Believe In Yourself, Be Curious and Dream - Interview with Alex Cunningham
In this episode, Pete speaks to Alex Cunningham, living in Miami in Florida. He is a 26-year-old sports medicine professional and is also a podcaster, trainer and trader. They discuss trading, podcasting, family, business and what it takes to get you where you want to be in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS In trading, no one is right. Some people believe their way is the right way but trading is similar to sports, you have players who play the game totally differently but they are both successful. Alex hosts the podcast, Market Adventures, he started this back in June 2020 and it is all about trading and investing. Alex believes anyone who feels they have something to say should podcast, there are endless ways of podcasting and like trading, there isn’t a right way to do it so anyone can get involved. Fire in the belly to Alex means something that you can’t stop being curious about. Trading, making money and track and run are his fire in the belly. He has also found maintaining control over what he is able to influence and developing himself personally aid him in his journey. Adam’s plan is all about sowing the seeds to have more freedom later in his life. He dreams of the day where he can have complete control and freedom of every single day. Alex did well in education. He showed up, did homework and assignments and memorised what he needed to. He found college more difficult as he had to study more but once he figured this out he did well. We are constantly conflicted by societies standards. We will find ourselves in situations where we know deep down what the right thing to do is but we don’t tap into that and instead look for easy answers or even excuses. BEST MOMENTS “I’m not anti-risk, no one likes to lose money, but I’m not afraid to” “Sports have always been a fire in the belly for me” “You always have to be prepared mentally for what you want or when you get it and you’re not ready for it, it’s gonna leave you” “Reading books to me is something I love to do” “We choose to believe society rather than choose to believe ourselves” “Allow yourself a little leeway for being human” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Alex Cunningham ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 167E167: I Just Want to be Happy - Interview with Amanda Webster
In this episode, Pete speaks to Amanda Webster, a certified mind, body and wellness coach who specialises in nutrition. Amanda is a suicide and rape survivor, both of which, are key reasons she advocates for mental health, support and are her main drive for everything she does. KEY TAKEAWAYS A mind, body and wellness coaches purpose is to bridge the gap between the mental and physical health. You can’t truly be ‘healthy’ unless you work on both of these, they are interlinked and affect one another. Amanda had been suffering with depression and had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder when she was wrongly accused of in a legal case, this lead to her almost committing suicide. But she heard a sign and realised she could no longer jump. Amanda accessed therapy and it got to the point where she was willing to do anything at all just to feel and be happy but her therapist told her she couldn’t. This made her take her late Dad’s mindset of ‘prove them wrong’ and she had to do so not only for herself but for everyone else like her too. We live in an extremely fast paced and difficult society, almost everyone has to deal and cope with some level of anxiety. Whilst Amanda had been diagnosed with a severe mental illness she believed that it wasn’t actually true. She didn’t believe that her illness, if she had one, affected her life severely, so she so she spent a year fighting to get revaluated. People try to project their own story, experiences and education on others. This is not helpful as they are pushing their own agenda, whether consciously or subconsciously and this might not be the most helpful or useful advice/help the other person, we need to listen. Amanda always felt misunderstood by the therapists she saw and almost all the mental health professionals she met, they never listened to her and this is something she feels is echoed in everyday life with most people. Being a rape survivor is something that is so incredibly difficult and not easy for others to understand. One of the hardest lessons Amanda had to learn was forgiveness, she understood that she had to forgive her rapist in order to move on with her life. She will never forget but she had to forgive and not allow the rape to still have power over her. BEST MOMENTS “I was so sure standing on that ledge this is what I have to do” “I am tired of being complacent, I just want to be happy” “If I don’t prove her wrong, I’m gonna die” “Don’t give your power to all these other people” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Amanda Webster ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 166E166: Is the Canvas of Art the Same As Our Consciousness? - Interview with Alexander Inchbald p.t 2!
In this episode, Pete carries on his previous conversation with Alexander Inchbald. They delve deeper into art, consciousness, belief systems and personality. An episode with fascinating and intriguing ideas, concepts and discussion. KEY TAKEAWAYS Consciousness is a label and it means different things to different people but we can create whatever we want and we can call it consciousness or a canvas, or whatever we like. The label doesn’t matter. The area in which Alex lives is known for genius, including Albert Einstein and Carl Jung who both lived within a few hours of the alps. We shift brain waves all the time, including multiple times when we go to sleep. The highest brain wave you can access is ‘gamma’ and it is hypothesised that with this brain wave you are connected the most and therefore anything you create reflects this. When painting, or doing any creative pursuit, you need to be connected to it the whole time. What that means is even when you have paused painting, writing etc. you need to still be connected to and thinking of what you are creating. Alex believes there is a distinction between the collective unconsciousness and imagination. Your personality and you change throughout your life based on your experiences. This is why Alex believes that psychometric tests and quizzes aren’t sufficient in telling you who you are. You have to combine this with your inner self, we’re not just an identity. BEST MOMENTS “Groundhog Day is the reality of our lives the majority of the time” “You need to stay connected to the painting at all times” “Understand what is stopping the flow of energy” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Alexander Inchbald ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 165E165: Body Conscious - Interview with Dee Larson
Today Pete speaks to Dee Larson, a conscious sexuality practitioner. Dee works with intimacy, body confidence, anxiety and sexual issues. She works and teaches both individuals and groups using the school of sematics to become aware of what they need in life, to heal and to become their authentic selves. KEY TAKEAWAYS Dee grew up with anxiety and shame around who she was in her body and who she was on this earth. When she moved to England for university she realised that culturally there were differences around how English people spoke about sexuality and how they were with nudity, at least in comparison to where she grew up. Dee moved back home and worked as a social worker, particularly with children of neglect and abuse. She progressed in her career and after having children worked on her own personal journey and started to see a connection between her self-esteem, sexuality and the differences between how she was taught culturally about these topics vs other cultures and religions. Our bodies physicality links to the older part of our brain, when talking about things such as abuse and neglect Dee finds it’s important to incorporate things like breathing and how a person is holding themselves to produce more effective results in therapy. This is also what she is talking about when she talks about being body conscious, connecting the mind to the body, not just about how we ‘feel’ about our body. The body can be an uncomfortable place to go to for some, it can be a place of repression, tensions and shame. So, when some people try to connect with the body it can be very difficult and take a lot of practice. This is something Dee specialises in. Step back and watch the conversations that take place daily. Consider and think about the things that are said because that is what you, or the other person, is ‘supposed’ to say, and how much feels truly authentic. The School of Sematics is an exploration of the emotions, memories and associations that are held in the body at any one time. Dee was working as a senior practitioner in the health trust, her marriage had broken down. She got an intense migraine and rash and ignored these symptoms to meet the demands of her job and home life, she hadn’t had time to process a lot of her emotional trauma. She ended up being hospitalised, they didn’t know what was wrong with her, she was exhausted for a year afterwards. She believes this was her bodies way of forcing her to face up to her emotions and to rest. It was the catalyst for a bigger change, in her life journey, to becoming her truly authentic self and helping others do the same. BEST MOMENTS “The body is the portal to the mind” “The trauma is in the nervous system, not the event” “If we continue to ignore our body, your body will find a way to make you listen” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Dee Larson ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 164E164: It’s Magical What the Mind Creates- Interview with Debbie Spector Weisman
In this episode, Pete speaks to Debbie Spector Weisman a certified dream life coach. She is also an author and podcaster. They talk about depression, higher purpose and of course, dreams! KEY TAKEAWAYS Debbie considers dream life coaching as her third career. Throughout her life, she had often remembered dreams and thought about them but they weren’t a big part of her life until she worked on a project in post-production of a film based around consciousness and dreams. This was the catalyst in her getting her coaching training so she could then help and show others why their dreams could be important to them. Not every dream you have will be profound, that is normal. But often when people remember dreams there is something there they can learn from. There is a lot of scientific evidence as well as 7000 years of human history to back up dream theory. Fire in the belly to Debbie means Passion. She found it later in life but she realised dreamwork is her fire in the belly and it has given her power. As humans we put a value judgements on everything in our waking lives but dreams do not have these value judgements in them. This is why they can be key to unlocking so many things in life including what you really want. So many of us go through life ‘sleeping’. They are not aware of their bigger picture and don’t think too much about whether they are living their true life. One of the biggest impacts of learning dreamwork for Debbie was the self confidence it gave her. It then meant she had the confidence to advocate for herself and what she wanted her life to look like. BEST MOMENTS “All of these things were giant revelations to me” “Their dreams could change their lives” “Pay attention to your dreams because it’s gonna give you guidance” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Debbie Spector Weisman ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 163E163: Interview with Ela Staniak
In this episode, Pete speaks to Ela Staniak who is a feminine leader coach and owns her own business Feminine Leaders. She works with female leaders, CEOs and business executives to create a partnership that champions their next steps in business and in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS A leadership coach focuses on high performance first. Unfortunately, due to the way the corporate and business world have been structured, when women enter the workforce there are still many barriers and challenges they have to overcome. This has meant that many women have sacrificed their own personal values and goals. Ela is all about creating the ultimate life including your values and goals and about building the absolute ultimate in every area of your life. Female leaders want everything male leaders want, but they also want equality and mutual respect. Men apply for roles when they only meet 60% of the criteria, women generally only apply for roles where they have at least 100% of the criteria. This is indicative of the differences in mindset between men and women, even today. Ela believes we all need to embrace both our masculine and feminine energy in life and leadership, no matter who we are. It’s about having a balance of the two and utilising the energy and power in both. The workplace needs to be better at managing women and family life. Even in the modern world women take on the bulk of the childcare and fitting it around work. Many workplaces still view women and having children as a negative but women don’t have children on their own. BEST MOMENTS “The key is to know how to get there and knowing what it is that we truly want in that ultimate” “High performance is complex, I simplify the processes for people” “These aren’t just women having children, these are families having children…women aren’t having children on their own” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Ela Staniak ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 162E162: A Story Only Has a Meaning We Give It - Interview with Marsha Vanwynsbe
In this episode, Pete speaks to Marsha Vanwynsbe, a speaker, coach and author who wants to help people share their stories. She helps men and women shift their thinking and stand in their difficult stories to empower them. They discuss shame, parenting, mindset and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Shame is something that is individual. What might be shameful to one person isn’t to someone else and the more we talk about what we find shameful the less power it holds. It’s what we do with what has happened to us that matters. Marsha teaches people to separate themselves from their stories and events to see that they do have power and can move forward. They do not have to be defined by what has happened to them. Marsha became an advocate for others at a young age after she was assaulted by a group of boys in her hometown. As she got older she recognised that she didn’t have to hold onto her shame and she was in this world to actually do something. Marsha has had many challenges and struggles with her children but she then made a conscious decision to stop trying to control every situation and to allow them to make their own mistakes and decisions. Letting go in this way allowed her children to make their own choices as well as giving her the freedom to own what things she could influence. As people we constantly take on other peoples shame. You can’t love yourself and hate everything that made you who you are. Accept that you learnt lessons along the way and don’t let your stories define you. School was challenging for Marsha but it is where she learnt to work hard and how she built her work ethic. Ep 161E161: Alison Edgar - The Entrepreneurs Godmother
In this episode, Pete speaks to Alison Edgar, The Entrepreneurs Godmother. Alison originally worked in the hospitality industry, living all over the world including Sydney and Cape Town. She moved back to the UK and began working in sales and it was after working in various large companies she began her own business working with entrepreneurs. Alison also delivers talks and education on how to be entrepreneurial including working with the discovery channel and SKY. Today she speaks to Pete about business, mindset and much more! KEY TAKEAWAYS Alison is in her 50’s and recognises that a lot of people her age are winding down career wise and thinking about their retirement. But she is just starting, she launched her business in her 40s and has so much passion and energy for business and entrepreneurship. Fire in the belly to Alison means waking up in the morning and not finding life and work a chore. She has a fire in her belly in the morning to get up and have a brilliant day. Alison struggled with some elements of school including late-diagnosed dyslexia. But what this meant for her is that she had to learn to discover and channel what she was good at from an early age. This and her tremendous work ethic is what has carried her through her career. Alison is definitely an extrovert, she gets her energy from being with other people. If she spends too much time on her own she finds herself deflated. However, she also finds she needs a small amount of time to herself to reflect on things. Change is something Alison teaches and talks about often. Many of us become scared by change which is understandable but you can alter your mindset to be enthused and intrigued by change instead. Alison really enjoys working with the youth. They give her fresh perspectives on things, renewed energy and inspiration. BEST MOMENTS “Is it the mindset of having a fire in your belly or is it just having fire in your belly, I think it’s both” “If you can really excel at what you’re really good at then the other things don’t matter so much” “You’ve got no idea how your behaviours affect other people…you just might change somebody’s life that you don’t even know” “It’s easy to overthink when you are on your own” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Alison Edgar ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 160E160: How to be Free - Interview with Dr John Demartini
In this episode, Pete speaks to Dr John Demartini, a teacher and speaker who strives to create his own box and his own world to have true freedom in life. They talk about values, living authentically, fulfilment and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to John means someone who is inspired and enthused to pursue something meaningful to them. Having fire in the belly means you will do what it takes to achieve what is important to you. Many people compare themselves to others and act like someone they are not. This means what they are committed to and what they want from life is clouded. Each of us have a set of values that we believe in. When we are living in alignment with these that is when we are happiest and feel most inspired. John delegates everything he can, so then he can have no distractions and just teach like he wants and needs to. He is doing the tasks he truly values. Surround yourself with people who are experts in the things that you find weigh you down or devalue you, then they can take care of those tasks for you. Inspiration and motivation are two separate things. If you have to try and motivate people that means they are not inspired, you are trying to create extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is where you want to be and this comes from within. John uses all possible avenues to learn, from lectures to reading. He is constantly wanting to learn, having a broader perspective is what makes us human. Mastery comes from celebrating all parts of your life, it doesn’t come from getting rid of half of yourself. You will never love yourself this way and it is a waste of your time. BEST MOMENTS “Not everybody has that fire to their full extent” “Sacrificing to live under others values will eventually make us narcissistic” “Anytime you live by your highest values and priorities your self-worth goes up” “I study and write every single day” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Dr John Demartini ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 159E159: Be Bitter or Be Better - Interview with Christopher Rausch
In this episode, Pete speaks to Christopher Rausch a speaker and coach from southern California who inspires people to be different. Christopher spent most of his life trying to be someone he wasn’t and found that being unique is the best way to live your life both authentically and happily. KEY TAKEAWAYS After starting working in personal development Christopher didn’t feel like he had the right fit. He joined a mastermind group and they inspired him to just be himself. This felt so much more natural to him and although he had criticism to begin with now he wouldn’t have it any other way. One of the biggest regrets in life for many is that they spent their time pleasing other people. Christopher encourages his clients to stop doing this and set themselves free to live a life where they are authentic and happy. Christopher has found it astounding the amount of people who are self-sabotaging their lives and happiness for reasons they don’t even know or understand. Fire in the belly to Christopher means you have grit, passion and you are willing to do what is right and what is fair. He also believes that recognising your fire in your belly allows you to pursue your mission in life and have an impact on what you care about. Christopher spent most of his adult life working in a corporate environment, but when he was made redundant at his job he decided to use it as an opportunity to really become himself and create the legacy he wanted. He performed well in all his corporate roles but he never felt like he was existing as his true self. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood in LA with an alcoholic mother with various psychological issues meant that Christopher grew up being very independent and lonely as a child. It led to him to attention seeking behaviour and having to grow up much quicker than he should have. Life is like a book, it has chapters. When a chapter is done that is it, a chapter is created for a purpose and this chapter bridges a journey to another. We are here in life to have multiple experiences, we aren’t supposed to do the same thing our whole lives. Ep 158E158: Coaching, Leadership and Culture with Rene Carayol
In this episode, Pete speaks to Rene Carayol, an executive coach who specialises in helping new CEO’s around the world with an impressive back catalogue of clients. When he is not coaching, he is usually speaking and talking on leadership. They talk about business, emotional intelligence, inclusivity and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS After the tragedy of George Floyds death Rene found he was contacted by many executives, mostly middle aged white men, about what they needed to do to be more inclusive. He was honest with them and told them that being not racist is not enough you have to be anti-racist and that they will probably make mistakes along their journey to become better but people will see their intent. We all have work to do to build a more inclusive and fairer society. It is worth understanding at acknowledging that a lot of the barriers to change are actually generational. Leadership and ‘The Top’ are different things. Managers are at the top of an organisation, leaders are everywhere. The pathway to success is to ask someone close to you who is honest about what your strengths are. Whatever they tell you, follow and work that into your career path to see true success, focus on your skills. Teams are the future. Collaboration is the new way to lead. Rene calls himself the ‘accidental coach’, one of the reasons for this is because to coach CEO’s he ends up coaching the people and teams around them as well. As a CEO you are the ultimate role model. You create the culture, it comes from the top. BEST MOMENTS “It’s been challenging but brilliant work” “Managers talk strategy, leaders tell stories” “Every single one of us is brilliant at something, not one of us is brilliant at everything” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Rene Carayol ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 157E157: How Breath Work Saved Me - Interview with Aaron Deane
In this episode, Pete speaks to Aaron Deane a cyclist, coach, yoga teacher and traveller. It was when he was travelling he discovered the art of ‘breath work’ and this is what led him to studying the ‘Win Home Method’ and it’s three pillars. Today they talk about Aaron’s life of sport, his struggles with mental health and how he overcame many of his problems, both physical and emotional, through the power of breath work. KEY TAKEAWAYS Aaron had a difficult childhood but was always taught to just ‘get on with it’ so never tried to heal his trauma. He has struggled a lot of his life with aspects of loneliness and depression but it wasn’t until after he had got married had children and experienced the trauma of losing his brother that his mental health problems truly spiralled. Aaron recognises that he had a good life from the outside. He was lucky to have a lovely family and home but he couldn’t help but feel the way he did, he felt like a burden. Aaron discovered breathing exercises and it was this that completely transformed his life. It was the holy grail to him, he no longer needed antidepressants and it was something he was completely in control of. This lead to Aaron becoming invested in breath work and wanting to train to be a coach in it to help others. You can’t be happy every single day of your life, you then wouldn’t appreciate the good days. But Aaron now has the right tools that work for him to cope and deal with the bad days and he teaches this to other too. BEST MOMENTS “I didn’t know what trauma was I just thought, get on with it, so I did” “Every disease on this planet manifests from some kind of stress” “What I felt inside, that was the holy grail for me” “When you are having a bad day, acknowledge it and feel it and just say it’s only today” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Aaron Deane https://www.wimhofmethod.com/instructors/aarondeane ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 156E156: Look In The Mirror - Interview with Michael Shinnick
In this episode, Pete speaks to Michael Shinnick, an entrepreneurial business coach based in Dublin. Michael also runs a 7-figure e-commerce business that he started in 2014. Listen in to hear Pete and Michael talk about all things coaching and what it takes to be successful and the steps that can get you there. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everything in your life is a reflection of you and where you are, whether that is your business, bank account or your relationships. For Michael to help people with their business he needs to understand what is happening with the individual, their beliefs and their values as well as certain tactics. Your business is just a vehicle to get what you want in life but what do you actually want? This is a probing question that Michael asks his clients to really get into their current mindset. If you can change the way you think about something and change to a culture of engagement in a business then you can ultimately change how the organisation operates from all angles. Fire in the belly to Michael is whatever it is that will make you take action. Your environment is possibly one of the most important things that impact you, your mindset and ultimately your life. Who you are talking with and being around on a daily basis has a massive impact on how you think and act. Surround yourself with the right people. Michael spent quite some time working in the investment and banking industry. But he had always wanted to do something for himself and ultimately it was this desire and his need to help people that brought him into coaching. From a psychological perspective it's important that you reward yourself for hard work and for when things go well. There are difficult times in all businesses and difficult tasks we all have to push through, remind yourself of these and how far you have come. Celebrate both your own and your teams wins. BEST MOMENTS “The main thing they look for is someone they respect and someone in the market as well” “The entrepreneurial world can be lonely” “If you’re the best person in the room, you’re in the wrong room” “Nothing in a business happens unless a sale is made” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Michael Shinnick ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 155E155: Interview with Kim Basler
In this episode, Pete speaks to Kim Basler, a food freedom and mindset coach. She also works in the fitness industry and is a mother, wife and dog lover! Kim teaches women freedom around food and releasing the guilt and shame around what, when and how we eat. She aims to give them the freedom they aim for around food and give them the power to use food in the way that serves them. KEY TAKEAWAYS Four years ago Kim had a big awakening and shift in her life and this is where her new journey began. Diet culture specifically tells us if we lose weight, eat the proper way, that we are going to be happier. Kim really goes into peoples disordered eating patterns to find out what will truly make them happy rather than their weight. Food is the symptom, not the cause. Fire in the belly to Kim means believing who you are and getting out of your own way. Being able to find and follow your purpose in life. Ep 154E154: Thy Mary Godmother - Interview with Mary Keogh
In this episode, Pete speaks to Mary Keogh, The Mary Godmother. Mary is a life coach and has a passion for helping women to become the best version of themselves. She uses her own life experiences and desire to give back to help as many women as she can. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mary calls herself a transformational life consultant which means she begins with helping people choose a goal and then begin the ‘re-journey’ of working towards this goal. When she was younger, Mary didn’t feel like she was good enough. It meant that she got married and had her first child very quickly. She then found herself incredibly unhappy and lonely. Mary stayed as a full-time mother and had more children, they were and always have been her world. Unfortunately, two of her sons became addicts which lead to violence and she struggled tremendously with feelings of failure. She ended up having to detach herself from them to be able to look after her daughters and to cope with life. When Mary started on her journey of self-discovery and renewal the part she struggled with the most was self-homage. She had only ever seen herself as a wife and a mother and didn’t feel like she had done a great job of either. This step was a real challenge for her but she managed by changing her perception of herself and how she would talk to herself. For Mary, imagination and visualising things is incredibly helpful and healing for her. Mary uses the same steps and insights from her own journey on her clients and she watches them emerge as she did. Mary recognises that she carried her broken childhood as an adult. She carried it with her so much that her actions were still childlike as an adult. BEST MOMENTS “We have to backtrack and take a look at who we are” “I began to change that hatred self-talk” “I could not see what other people saw” “Life’s not wonderful but I make it the best I can make it” “The only person, thing that was missing in my life was me, it was Mary” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Mary Keogh ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 153E153: Trust, Failure and Finance - Interview with Andrew Stotz
In this episode, Pete speaks to business owner, coach and teacher Andrew Stotz. Andrew currently lives and works in Bangkok in Thailand with his two companies that he co-owns. He is crazy about finance and he has a CFA designation and then got a PHD in finance at the age of 50. He loves reading and learning and that is why he is where he is today. He also runs a podcast called ‘my worst investment ever’ where he talks to people about their stories and learnings as well as sharing his own journey. KEY TAKEAWAYS Andrew grew up in Ohio in the USA. By his late teens he had survived multiple suicide attempts and went into rehab. He has now been sober since 1982, this defined him from the age of 17. If you quit a lot it will take you away from the things that don’t serve or work for you and towards the things that work. That’s the story of Andrew’s life. Andrew is an analyst at heart, not just in finance but in all aspects of his life. It colours his world and it’s how he interprets, makes decisions and sees everything. Andrew recognises that for him numbers are simply a tool. They are a thing he uses to structure arguments and meaning. Anyone can learn financing and numbers but what sets people apart are their ethics. How you communicate, demonstrate trustworthiness and confidentiality are just some of the ways your ethics can stand you apart from others and add value. There are a lot of formulas, calculations and such in the finance world, when learning it can make you feel like there is a lot of certainty. But Andrew likes to remind his students and others that these are all just hypotheses and in the real world nothing is certain and they might not solve your problems. Taking complex things and simplifying them is one of the things Andrew loves to do. He acknowledges that some things are incredibly difficult to understand and break down and never gets frustrated with those who do not understand finance. When it comes to finance you cannot skip a step, this is often where confusion is born. Andrew describes his business experience as being ‘forged in the fire of failure’. It’s one of the many reasons he started his podcast. He believes you can learn so much more from when things have gone wrong and mistakes, not just your own but others too. Unfortunately, not everyone is comfortable being so vulnerable and open about their failures so he often gets refusals when asking guests to come on. The reason so many people fail in business and investment is because they don't do enough research and they fail to properly assess and manage risk. BEST MOMENTS “I just haven’t stopped running since then” “There’s a lot of people who don’t want to reveal their mistakes” “The best hooks are emotional” “Trust is valuable” “Only do what only you can do” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Andrew Stotz Andrew Stotz, PhD, CFA is the CEO of A. Ep 152E152: Be More Giraffe - Interview with Elliot Kay
In this episode, Pete speaks to entrepreneur and public speaker Elliot Kay. He is the cofounder of speaker express and works with businesses to reach their full potential, particularly in using speaking as a marketing strategy. He is also a bestselling author and above everything else a Dad and a Husband. They discuss speaking, business and Elliot’s childhood, as well as his plans for the future. KEY TAKEAWAYS Elliot appreciates that he has a lot to be thankful for and he has achieved some great success already. But he is future focused and still desires a lot more from his life and business. He wants more because he wants to be able to provide and offer more. When you are speaking in a business capacity you need to think about who you are trying to market to, who it is that is going to buy from you. You also need absolute clarity in the language and communication you use with those in your market. You need to be a great storyteller no matter what market you are in. You’ve got to be able to deliver with impact and be memorable. People will remember how you made them feel, you need current and up to date content. People are now looking for experts that speak rather than ‘speakers’. Fire in the belly to Elliot means that inner, drive, passion and bite to achieve something. As a child and young adult Elliot realises he had a bit of a victim complex. He now knows this was due to a variety of things including abuse and his dyslexia. When his business and relationships started failing he then decided to tackle these thoughts and attitude head on. Elliott suffered from depression a couple of years ago. He found it really difficult to share his feelings with anyone else and it meant that he ended up getting to breaking point before getting help. Comparison is the thief of joy and Elliot knows that his depression was due to him comparing many aspects of his life as well as underlying issues he had with his own self-worth. In speaking structure is important, when you have a solid structure it allows you to play around but end up where you want to end up. Don’t confuse structure with a script. Elliot’s time and career as a dancer taught him many life lessons and has helped him in his business choices and decisions too. BEST MOMENTS “That’s what leads me that’s what makes me get up in the morning” “As long as my kids are smiling that’s a success” “Can I be the dad she needs me to be?” “Speaking is so powerful” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Elliot Kay Elliot has been doing stage performances and public speaking since he was 11. Ep 151E151: Bring It On - Interview with Franciska Kosman
In this episode, Pete speaks to Franciska Kosman, a singer, composer, producer, podcaster and coach. She is also a mother, wife and one of seven children. She grew up in Moscow, Russia but now lives in the USA. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Franciska means whatever drives you, what is the fire within in you that doesn’t allow you to just take life as it comes. What is it that makes you get up in the morning and fight something. Singing in Franciska’s culture is complicated so she began to interview women in her position about what they did. This is how she built up a camaraderie and database of women in this space. Her theme in podcasting is ‘the elephant in the room’ and giving the underdog a voice. Being a Rabbi’s daughter and that experience growing up meant that Franciska knew she was always being watched and had to play a certain role. It has helped her in life now, particularly with being in the public eye. However, it also meant that she had to learn to find her own voice and her own brand. Franciska’s parents moved to Russia and raised all their children there. It was Franciska’s mum who first suggested she write a song and being in Moscow she had lots of opportunities to develop musically including piano lessons and going to music school. As a child Franciska put a lot of pressure on herself in music and at school. She is her was her biggest critic, but now she tries to control less of her life and finds life much more relaxing and stress-free. As an orthodox Jew, Franciska has daily struggles with a lot of stricter rules. She doesn’t want to alienate those she wants to inspire but it’s still difficult for her. She believes that girls in the community should grow up knowing that there are women who sing and women who are following their passions but it is still important that this is done in the right way. BEST MOMENTS “There’s a lot of thought process in what I do” “I really feel heard, it’s a magnificent feeling” “Ideas come to me, it’s really important for me to prioritise so I can execute them” “I don’t see the world in colours I see everything in numbers” “Part of my mission is to bring good music, not just sung by men but sung by women” “There’s no casual performance for women” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Franciska Kosman ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 150E150: Interview with Jordan O'Keefe
In this episode, Pete speaks to Jordan O’Keefe, a singer trying to keep his dream alive. Jordan is working out how to find the right balance in his life to create long lasting success and happiness. KEY TAKEAWAYS Jordan’s dream as a child was to be on TV and sell out arenas but after having a small taste of being famous and well known by appearing on Britain’s Got Talent his dream has changed. He found it difficult receiving criticism by people who didn’t even know him. Now he just wants to be successful, a life where he isn’t worried about finances but still waking up each day loving what he is doing. Fire in the belly to Jordan means the feeling he gets when he sees others achieve, do well and progress. It reminds him of what he should be doing and gives him motivation. The process of song writing for Jordan is different for every single song. Pete and Jordan agree that the older you get the less you care and take notice of what people think. You realise that the way people react to you says more about them than it does about you. Jordan recognises that currently he isn’t achieving everything he wants to, partly due to parenthood and partly due to covid. When the time is right he will be putting the work in, working on his work ethic and getting to where he wants to be. People in their later stages in life have so much experience and knowledge, Jordan wants to learn as much as he can from them. He has spent a lot of his life being with older people which he says helped him mature. Having small children and being in a small living space can be difficult but there are ways to still achieve what it is you want. It may take you longer and be in smaller steps but it is doable for anyone. BEST MOMENTS “We all need balance to be happy” “That’s the main thing when you’re doing this is that people enjoy it” “The older I get I see this differently” “The more you learn the more you understand how little you know” “Life begins when you choose” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Jordan O’Keefe Singer and songwriter from Northern Ireland ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 149E149: Everyone Has a Masterpiece - Interview with Alexander Inchbald
Today Pete speaks to Alexander Inchbald, British born but currently living in Switzerland. Alex helps people learn to love what they do. He helps individuals, teams and organizations seize this historic opportunity in an ever-changing world and step into a new reality. He helps them by creating a solid foundation to forge their ‘masterpiece’. He does this through coaching, creating workshops and programmes as well as through his artwork. KEY TAKEAWAYS A masterpiece is the greatest thing you can create for yourself, for your family and to society. Alex always felt he was a creative but followed what his father wanted him to do and really struggled with life. He got the job he thought he wanted but was miserable, when he was then made redundant he hit rock bottom but a series of events lead him back to painting. Alex now paints in extreme locations, he says this is what taught him to creative everywhere. We are living through the greatest transition since The Industrial Revolution. The institutions upon which the modern world was created - health, finance, education, military - are dissolving around us. This can be disconcerting and disorienting. However, nature abhors a vacuum. So, what world would you like to fill the space being created? The last time we had an opportunity of this magnitude was after 9/11. We missed the opportunity then, because we didn't have the tech or the mindset to take advantage of this opportunity but now we do. We all have an ‘outer’ and an ‘inner’ game. The outer game is our identity, we access this through our five physical senses. As a society we mostly focus on this outer space, the physical, what we can see. The inner game is the ‘sixth sense’, our intuition. The key to unlocking our inner game is via purpose. BEST MOMENTS “Everyone has a masterpiece in them” “Everyone is an artist today, but not necessarily the artist who paints, the artist who sculpts, or writes” “Is one season more powerful than another? No. But are we neglecting one season? Yes” “A lot of gurus say to empty your mind. But what they really mean is come from a space of ‘nothingness’” “One of the biggest myths is that it is hard work to generate money” "Sometimes good doesn't happen so great can" VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) [email protected] https://alexander-inchbald.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/becreativeeverywhere?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_profile_view_base_contact_details%3B4lojSGduRq2H3oS4z3%2F1bA%3D%3D https://alexander-inchbald.com/masterpiece-book/ ABOUT THE GUEST Alexander Inchbald Alexander founded the Purpose Movement and is a Master Trainer at Entrepreneur’s Institute, the largest entrepreneur movement in the world. Ep 147E147: Tell Me More - Interview with Andy Bounds
In this episode, Pete speaks to Andy Bounds. Andy helps his customers to sell more and communicate better, he has won awards and written books too! Andy’s mother is blind and it meant that he got very good at explaining things to others that didn’t see the world in the same way he did. KEY TAKEAWAYS Andy has felt fire in his belly throughout all of lockdown because of the importance of communication and being unable to do it in the same way. Some of our senses are diminished so we are having to heighten others. Those who may have winged it in a work setting is unable to do so now. You can ‘get away’ with less, you need to be extra prepared for meetings. When you’re going into a virtual meeting, don’t just prepare what you are talking about but think of good questions too so you can ensure the other people contribute. You can judge how communication has worked by looking at what happens after it. For example, if you think you have done an excellent, thorough email but the person who sees it thinks it’s too long so doesn’t read it, it means you may have thought you have done something fantastic but what happened after isn’t what you wanted. The first thing you need to do before initiating communication (e.g. sending an email or making a phone call) is figure out what ‘working communication’ would be in each scenario. Think about how to make both parties happy with communication, be empathetic, be kind and use a channel you are both happy with. Fire in the belly to Andy is making sure communication works for everyone. So many people don’t know how to be interesting, it’s not difficult they just need to know how to communicate effectively with different types of people. Other people love it when you can remember what is important to them. Do whatever you need to facilitate this. Andy is passionately ‘nerdily’, ‘geekily’ interested in other people’s views from things which he gets from his mum and dad. BEST MOMENTS “Things you may have got away with once you really can’t now so you gotta raise your game” “Communication is always about whether it’s worked or not” “The other person is often blind to your world view” “I hate selfish communication” “If it doesn’t sound like you then it won’t sound like you when you say it” “There is no universal truth only perspective” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Andy Bounds https://www.andybounds.com/ ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 146E146: A State of Gratitude - Interview with Cliodhna Fullen
In this episode, Pete speaks to Cliodhna Fullen, a mother, wife and motivational life skills mentor. We all need certain skills for life, especially in how to cope with the everyday trials and tribulations. Cliodhna educates and teaches people these skills and how to stay motivated. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cliodhna has always been a positive person and injected motivation and positivity in her life, but she did not realise this was a ‘thing’ that could be taught to others. She read ‘The Secret’ and learnt about law of attraction and the power of intention. It was this that first intrigued her, gave her an interest in the theory and when her growth first started. After having her first child, Cliodhna suffered with her mental health and was admitted to hospital. In hospital she did a lot of reflection and internal healing. Cliodhna acknowledges that there are aspects of her childhood that were very difficult, but she wouldn’t change her life experiences as it made her who she is today. You can’t go back and change things, you have to learn to accept it. Cliodhna lives in a state of absolute gratitude every day, because she knows what it is to struggle in many ways; she has experienced so much in 37 years. The first seven years of your life are called your ‘programming years’, where your subconscious is completely open. Meaning, how you are raised, how you feel, what you are exposed to etc has an immense impact on who you ultimately become. Cliodhna knows her purpose and wants to use it to help as many people as she can. She is excited and intrigued to see where the rest of her journey will lead her. Looking after number one is very important. If you are not ok then how can you be the best version of you for others. Ep 145E145: Defining Your Own Why - Interview with Christina Davis
In this episode, Pete speaks to Christina Davis, a digital nomad coach from New Jersey. Christina helps women push through their fears and create independence with their business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Christina has a 12 week programme that she works one-to-one with clients on, to help them achieve a life they have always wanted via travel. A digital nomad coach is someone who teaches/coaches individuals how to work and travel at the same time. It’s not for everyone, you have to have a certain type of personality for it to work. Often travel needs to be more than a passion. Fire in the belly for Christina means leading the lifestyle where you are able to network with others who are in the same mindset as well as just being able to be her true self. Christina finds that for many there is an immense pressure to hit certain milestones and do certain things in life and they are then told that’s what makes you happy. But for Christina, it’s the opposite of all those things that bring her true happiness. Christina is a spontaneous and adventurous person, she just wants to live a life where she laughs. She finds she is her true authentic and happy self when she is exploring places and meeting new people. Be true to who you are because you have so much to offer others and you can learn an incredible amount from different people too. So many people only listen to respond. Once you start listen to simply, listen, the world opens up to you and those you connect with. Unlike a lot of people, Christina saw 2020 as a year of greatness. She managed to really discover what it is she wants from life. BEST MOMENTS “I am here to help guide them through all of their fears” “A nomad is being able to live life on your own terms on your own time and with where you want to go and what you want to do” “What else can I do other than laugh at the situations that are ridiculous in life” “The world needs you, not another clone” “Either you wallow in what you have lost of you turn it into what you gain” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Christina Davis linktr.ee/Christinadaviscoaching ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 144E144: Interview with Ana Levin
In this episode, Pete speaks to Ana Laura Levin, all the way from the USA! Ana is an energy aligner, heart activator and brand translator. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ana says she is in control most of the time but has had to learn that she can’t control everything and be in control all of the time. Ana was born a feeler, from a young age she could feel emotions, nature and people. But as an adult she felt she had to almost bury this and kept on with life as many other people do. Until 7 years ago she just felt exhausted and asked herself the question ‘what is living like’? What Ana does is help people get their energy aligned, so they can be healthier, happier and know that they are loved. Ana has always loved animals, she even considered being a veterinarian. As an adult she really, really loves cats and their energy! Translating is what Ana originally trained in but teaching is the career that Ana ended up doing. She wouldn’t describe it as her ‘calling’ it just kind of happened after working in a church nursery, she always liked children. Respecting all children regardless of their background, values and views is of upmost importance to Ana. She is authoritative in the classroom but she also ensures the children know that they are cared for an are respected. Ana believes that the educational system doesn’t accommodate all children. If a child wants to sit on the floor and it means they will work, why not let them work sitting on the floor? After Ana asked herself the question of what is it like to live she had some difficult decisions to make. She got divorced, she quit her job and completely turned her life upside down. It was necessary in order for her new life to be born. Ana is non-judgemental, she understands that she does not know peoples journeys and she can’t pretend to understand, it would be arrogant of her. She ‘understands that she does not understand’! BEST MOMENTS “I don’t like to settle for one thing…let’s embrace all my talents” “It’s tricky for me to put it into words” “This is not what my soul is seeking, I better learn to listen” “I do occasionally hug a tree!” “I was surviving, life was a battlefield” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Ana Laura Levin www.analauralevin.com https://www.facebook.com/AnaLauraLevin/ https://www.instagram.com/love_alignment/ ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 143E143: Listening for the Magic - Interview with Jacqui Taaffe
In this episode, Pete speaks to Jacqui Taaffe, a life and mindset coach. Jacqui sits down with people and has deep, meaningful conversations, this is where the magic occurs. Her clients come to her sessions with everything they need, it’s just Jacqui’s job to awaken what they need and enlighten them. KEY TAKEAWAYS When Jacqui is talking with her clients she can always sense the ‘lightbulb moment’ in them. The moment when they realise they have the ability to start on a new incredible journey where they look at everything in a completely different way. Jacqui sees herself as the facilitator in these interactions and to create a space for this moment to happen. Jacqui knows that she is now doing what she is destined to do, coach people. She listens and people trust her and she is making a big impact on people and the world. Fire in the belly to Jacqui is to have real, honest, raw and authentic conversations. It’s within these conversations, and people feeling that freedom, that causes us to connect with others as well as creating joy and energy for ourselves. You are not your thoughts. Jacqui says you can choose your path, you are only what you believe. Make quality choices and always choose yourself. Regrets are a choice. So, Jacqui believes if she has regrets about anything it means it’s her minds way telling her to do something. Jacqui thinks we are all the same at our core. She loves talking to others and reflecting, it often gives her a new perspective that she hasn’t thought of before. Because she has let go of the concept of ‘being right’ she can be open minded to almost anything. You are not alone. Reach out if you are struggling, those around you will want to help and listen. Ep 142E142: Follow Your Passion and STAY CURIOUS! - Interview with 11 yo Critts Shoe Founder, Carter Waugh
In this episode, Pete speaks to Carter Waugh, 11 year old founder of the Flip Critts! A family-run shoe company that specialises in fully recyclable, adventure-proof shoes. Today Carter and Pete talk about the concept and creation of Flip Critts and Carter’s mission to create a shoe that spread happiness, safety and security for all critters. KEY TAKEAWAYS The shoes mould to your feet and fit to be your ‘personal shoe’. They are also really easy to clean, have incredible grip, prevent blisters and are fully recyclable. Carter was just 8 when he created the company. The idea came to him when he was trying to play and climb on holiday but every shoe he wore gave him different problems. So, he wanted to come up with a solution for himself and others too. Carter created the word ‘adventurability’. This means when you can jump, climb and just be a kid. He has trademarked this! Carter first launched the shoe on Kickstarter to fund it to be made. He initially had it costed in the USA but it was very expensive, he was able to bring the cost down by it being manufactured in China. Carter says you should always write down your ideas. Carter has a journal that he writes all his ideas in. This is the only way to make it happen. It helps you figure out your vision. Carter has learnt that intellectual property is very important. If you can’t protect your ideas then people will take them and steal them from you. Fire in the belly for Carter is to love what you do and his passions. For every pair of Critts shoes that is bought, $2 goes back to Carter’s elementary school to help them survive through the Covid pandemic. Carter has and continues to inspire parents to listen to their children more. Many adults don’t listen to children but they often have something important to say. If Carter’s Dad hadn’t listened to him then Flip Critts would have never been born! Carter wants to be a learning opportunity for others and continue to inspire everyone so he is able to give back across the world and be happy. BEST MOMENTS “I want it to look good and feel good” “I wanted to spread happiness, safety and security to all critters” “I just think that’s crazy” “You can do it at any age, 7 to 54, you can make a shoe, I just want to inspire people to make their own product and inspire the world” “It was hard and fun” “Hard work pays off a lot” “There’s a good side and a good side!” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.critts.com/ Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Carter Waugh Carter created Flip Critts when he was 8 years old because his flip flops would break and not protect his feet, whilst his foam clogs were making his feet sweat and giving him blisters. Ep 141E141: Building Relationships, Lives, and for Tomorrow - Interview with Tony Thomas
In this episode, Pete speaks to Tony Thomas a chartered financial planner from Wales with over 30 years experience. They talk about investments, coaching and more in this beneficial and informative episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS People are more open talking about money than generations previously. Tony has such passion and enjoyment for helping people achieve what they want to achieve. There is nothing better for him than showing people how they can achieve the lifestyle and reality they want. The pandemic will have had an impact on the age that people want to retire. Working both ways, some will have enjoyed the additional free time they have had for hobbies so will want to retire early, whereas other haven’t enjoyed being at home so much so want to work longer! What retirement means is different to what it did in the past. Retirement nowadays usually means stepping back/down from a professional career but still doing ‘something’ whether that is part time paid work or volunteering. The best way to get a good retirement is to plan and put steps in place to achieve what it is you want to happen. Tony originally trained as an engineer and this was the start of his career. Unfortunately the company he worked for didn’t do so well and he was made redundant. It was this that made him change directions and start working in the financial sector. In order to help people as a financial adviser, Tony says that you need to truly understand what it is people want to achieve as their end goal. It’s not the same for everyone and sometimes includes some hard truths. Tony’s Fire in the Belly is helping other become financially secure and helping them build a better life and future. BEST MOMENTS “People are concerned about their jobs, about their futures” “They need to find something else to stimulate their minds” “The real skill of a financial adviser is to build that relationship with the client, get to understand them, know what they are trying to achieve and help them get there” “We don’t know when tomorrow is going to come, but you need to be prepared” “When I am helping others, I am helping myself as well” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) ABOUT THE GUEST Tony Thomas Financial Planner with 30 Years Experience ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 140E140: We Need to Talk - Interview with Sharon Bridges
In this episode, Pete speaks to Sharon Bridges, a mother, Doula and trained hypnotherapist. Sharon opens up about her daughters eating disorder and death, mental health, her experiences as a Doula and so much more. A heart breaking, emotional but inspiring episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sharon worked in the medical side of pregnancy and birth but found it wasn’t quite the right fit. She then learnt about Doula’s and it sounded like exactly what she wanted to do. A doula is a professional birth partner. They are there to emotionally support the mother as much as possible before, during and after birth. Birth is the most amazing process a woman can go through but it can also be very traumatic. Sharon was very frightened for her first birth. She feels that’s because of her expectation of birth made her scared, especially about pain. But it was actually a really good birth experience for Sharon and she almost thought it was a dream. It was not what she expected at all. When a baby is born so many people forget about the mother. She needs support and help but doesn’t always get it. The mental health of the mother is so important. Sharon lost her daughter ten years ago. No parent ever expects to lose a child. Sharon believes that her daughters health wasn’t taken seriously and this is why she died. After her daughter’s death Sharon spoke to the media to share her daughter Sophie’s story and to advocate for others. Sharon tries to make her life as natural as possible. She has the condition fibromyalgia and manages this mostly with diet and exercise. Sharon believes that we are all just one trauma away from addiction. As a society we don’t view and treat mental health problems sufficiently enough. There is a pandemic of suicide at the moment. We need to change so many things and rid the stigma around mental health problems. Talking about it more, including conversations with children, would be a helpful start. A day of rest is not a wasted day. You are looking after your mental health. We are all human and we need to recognise what helps us and look after all aspects of ourselves. Everything that happens in life is for a reason and it puts you exactly where you need to be. Sharon believes in synchronicity and that we are all connected in this small world. BEST MOMENTS “My passion in life is to help people experience better mental health” “When I had my first baby I was so frightened” “When a baby is born, a mother is born” “There is nothing in this life that is more important than the bond between a mother and her baby” “Incidents in life can make you bitter or they can make you better…I have to use this experience to do something positive or it will all be for nothing” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) Doula Ireland ABOUT THE GUEST Sharon Bridges Mother, Doula and trained hypnotherapist.Doula Ireland ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 139E139: Stop Running and Reclaim YOUR Life - Interview with Lorna Doorley
In this episode, Pete speaks to Lorna Doorley a holistic reflexologist, mother, stand-up comedian, business owner and world record holder! Lorna reclaimed her life from co-dependency and addiction to become a passionate person with a strong urge, will and desire to help others, especially women. Listen in today to hear of her journey to a brighter life and how she helps others do the same. KEY TAKEAWAYS We don’t have to rely on changing ourselves on the outside through things like diet or using others to self-regulate. There is another way to live. Lorna believes in a holistic approach to her reflexology and massage, this means she looks at the whole person and how everything ties in together, it’s one big picture. Fire in the belly to Lorna is being authentic. She says there is only one version of her now which wasn’t always the case. She follows spiritual goals and values to live as authentically and as well as she can. Lorna has always had a drive to show and help women feel what she felt. That they could live a different way. But she was unsure on how to carry that message to them. But by retraining in reflexology and massage with a holistic approach she is teaching women how to truly take care of themselves. Women are the caregivers in society, we aren’t always good at looking after number one. Having boundaries and feeling grounded are so important for a balanced and happy life. Lorna makes a conscious effort to ground herself each morning and that helps her keep her boundaries. So she then doesn’t take on other people’s problems and doesn’t fall into her old role of being ‘the fixer’. Lorna did well and enjoyed most of school. She then got a degree in social work and became a social worker at 21. She did this for quite a few years until she had her eldest daughter and then became a stay at home mother. She found the years of being a stay at home mother quite difficult, it was a hard period in her life. After having all five of her children she eventually started to go on her spiritual journey, she gave up alcohol, became free from many other things and began to find out who she truly was. Lorna changed her mindset around her body image completely. She believes in body positivity and no longer subscribes to diet culture and the way society dictates what a ‘good’ body is. Her heart breaks for women who still torture themselves every day because of the BS women are brainwashed with about their image since childhood. BEST MOMENTS “It’s not just a physical experience, it can be emotional for people” “It’s a very accessible way to treat people holistically” “Stress is an undercurrent and a factor in so many chronic illnesses” “There’s always a way to bring change” “I ran from things I wasn’t able to cope with” “You’ve got to be uncomfortable and unsatisfied for someone to sell you a product” “It was incredible and I have never looked in the mirror since and said ‘Oh I don’t like this part or that part’. Ep 138E138: Mind, Body and Spirit - Interview with Glenn Lundy
In this episode, Pete speaks to Glenn Lundy, husband, father, automotive professional and host to #riseandgrind! They talk about impact, energy, perspective, childhood and much, much more. Listen in to today to absorb Glenn’s energy and be inspired. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fire in the belly to Glenn is the ‘fuel’. What is that burning, desire inside you that fuels your decisions? Glenn believes we are three dimensional beings; mind, body and spirit. And all three of these things have an equal part to play and we have to serve all three areas to achieve greatness. Glenn asks the question, what kind of impact are you going to have on others in life? He believes that is why we are here, what we are alive to do. Glenn believes that impact is the meaning of life. He tries to bring people together in everything he creates. Glenn is not a passive person. He is always ‘chasing things down’. He doesn’t sit still waiting for things to happen. Glenn believes that energy never disappears. All it does is change and come back in different forms. That’s why it’s so important to put the right energy out there and to give it to others. Glenn’s unique upbringing is what has lead him to view things easily through others eyes and understand differing perspectives. A series of events including divorce, homelessness and a suicide attempt lead Glenn on his path of spirituality and his voyage of discovery the past ten years. Glenn gives his children a lot of freedoms and luxuries. Glen partly attributes that to the difficult times he had with his Dad as a younger child. He was very controlling and strict. He is certain to plant a lot of seeds in their minds, to try, create and dream. He wants them to choose their own path in life. Bringing people together, creating impact and being kind are some of Glenn’s core values. He says it’s important to recognise your values as once you know them it makes it so much easier to be who you are. It is freeing, it helps you know when to say yes and when to say no. Glenn is an eternal student. He can read, listen, watch, go to conferences, anything, and he will immerse himself and learn. On the outside, people’s lives can seem good. But often it’s a ‘2D lifestyle’. It isn’t real or authentic. This leads to misalignment and unhappiness in the long run. BEST MOMENTS “There’s something in my spirit that tells me we can be better” “Whether you’re the lion or the gazelle, you better wake up running!” “When you don’t look good, you don’t feel good!” “I associate money with freedom” “You have the ability to create whatever you want in life” “If I’m not learning something then it’s a detriment to the empire I’m trying to build” "What you put out, is what you get back" VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) Glenn's Website.Glenn's FacebookRise and grind Website ABOUT THE GUEST Glenn Lundy Glenn's Website.Glenn's FacebookRise and grind Website ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’. Ep 137E137: A Pause is a Purpose - Interview with Clinical Psychologist Dr. Malie Coyne
Today Pete speaks to Dr. Malie Coyne, a clinical psychologist living in Galway and working with children, teenagers and parents. She is also a mother, lecturer and author. Malie is very passionate about promoting wellbeing and increasing awareness of mental health issues, which she achieves through her advocacy work, public speaking and print, radio and TV contributions. Listen in today for an insight into child psychology, anxiety, passion and much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Malie always said if she was going to write a book it would be focused around children and parents as that’s where her interest has always lied. Malie also suffered with anxiety as a child and so wanted to help those children and parents dealing with this. Malie believes in compassion based therapy, which is an eastern blend of therapies. She used this approach in her book ‘Love In, Love Out’ which was released in July. The most important thing about the book for Malie, is the amount of people it helps, this was always her purpose. Anxiety can have both a genetic component as well as environmental factors. 15% of children are born with a more anxious temperament but life events and parenting can have a large impact on child anxiety. It’s really important that we assess how we react to our children, a lot of these responses are automatic and we don’t even think about doing them. Fire in the belly for Malie means passion. Her fire comes out a lot when she is teaching and helping others. She also thinks what is the point of doing anything if you don’t have that fire in the belly for it! Humans have the ability to see into the future and look at the past. Which inflates our feelings of threat. Being anxious is about feeling threatened. Finding the balance between connections with other people, what you do each day and your drive can be very healing. You can still be driven whilst being kind to yourself and others. 90% of brain development happens before a child is three. Malie believes that we need to focus more on infant mental health for this exact reason. People do not learn when they are threatened. Malie tries to educate and teach others in a compassionate way. She also tries to share parts of herself so other people see her as the human she is. Malie is continuously learning and does so in many ways. Through courses, through clients, reading, podcasts, and even through her family and children. Passion can sometimes lead to stress for Malie because she says yes to a lot of ‘maybes’ when following it. It can lead to feeling of overwhelm for her. Malie believes that pushing is not the only way to get what you want. Often there can be a spiritual side to getting to where you want to be. It’s important to not tie all of your self worth to the negative things that sometimes happen. The universe has a plan and there is a reason things happen. BEST MOMENTS “To every child and grown-up child who feels anxious out there, this one’s for you. I’ve been there, it’s really hard and I’m holding your hand. I hope this book gives you a voice and gives you justice” “There weren’t many books on how a parent feels in response to their child’s anxiety and how they might address that and look at that first before they respond” “My passion has somehow exuded from me and somehow been contagious to them” “There is a moment of awareness before you react with your kids” “It’s no surprise I began a helper as I felt it was my job, as I got older I learnt you don’t have to bring stuff home with ya” “Eventually the stack has to come down” “It was us against the world” VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061) Malie's Website Malie's Facebook Malie's LinkedIn Malie’s Book ABOUT THE GUEST Dr Malie Coyne A Clinical Psychologist, Author, N.U.I.G.
