Internet Addiction Bootcamps
Concerns of rampant and unchecked internet addiction amongst the youth in China has seen a surge of internet addiction bootcamps mushrooming in the country. The treatments vary from family based therapy to bootcamp style training to electroshock therapy, and in all instances, these bootcamps are unregulated. Last month, a teenager died 48 hours after being forcefully sent to a bootcamp, sparking outrage and calls for the Chinese government to regulate such centres. We speak to Trent Bax about the whole notion of internet addiction and the effects these harsh practices have had on the kids who are sent against their will.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Talkback Thursday: Roadside Hawker Stalls
A couple of days ago, the Federal Territories Ministry announced a surprise decision to ban all roadside food stalls in KL by 2020, citing health issues and traffic congestion as the reasons. This means that all existing roadside hawkers will need to relocate their business or begin operating from food trucks. The decision garnered mixed reactions from the public - some lauded it, while others feared for our food culture. Though, this is a path our northern neighbours have already walked as Bangkok has already imposed this law. So today on Talkback, we’re asking your reactions to this, and whether we should get rid of roadside hawker stalls. Our lines will be open.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

(Untitled) #96, feat. Elephant, by The White Stripes
Elephant was laid down in east London's Toerag Studios for just £5,000, on analogue equipment built before 1963. This stripped-back approach to rock'n'roll influenced countless Stripes imitators at the start of the last decade, but nobody matched Jack and Meg when it came to creating a colossal sound out of such basic ingredients. This week, on (Untitled), Ezra and Uma listen to the essential album by the essential rock band of the noughties.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jalan Merdeka: Traversing the Routes to Merdeka
History in the form that we read in textbooks, looks like a fixed story of a time that’s far removed and a thing of the past. Having frequent conversations about different aspects of a particular time of the past keeps history richer, alive, and more relatable. We speak with two history enthusiasts who are bringing forth some lesser-known stories about our road to independence, in their exhibition titled “Jalan Merdeka: Traversing the routes to Merdeka”. Our guests are Tunku Zain Al-Abidin Tuanku Muhriz, Chairman & Lead Curator of the Asian Heritage Museum, as well as Netusha Naidu, Curator & Co-founder of Imagined Malaysia. Talkback Thursday: The Rohingya Community in Malaysia
This evening on Talkback, we’re going to be discussing the refugee situation - more specifically, the current Rohingya refugee crisis. Mainstream media has highlighted their plight, albeit sporadically.. but over the years, that’s changed quite a bit. Just last week, the discussion went ‘mainstream’ when a protest outside the Myanmar embassy turned ugly. About 155 demonstrators were arrested in the process, and the demonstration resulted in a massive traffic jam that took hours to clear. So this evening, we'd like to get a candid gauge of where you stand on the situation: Are you willing to accept the Rohingya community as part of Malaysian society? Do you think we should do more to integrate them or is this a matter for Myanmar to resolve? Our lines will be open.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

(Untitled) #95 feat. Roxy Music, by Roxy Music
In 1972, Roxy Music, along with David Bowie and T. Rex, helped turn art rock - a stiff, often introverted style of highly textured rock - into perhaps the coolest genre in rock ’n' roll's history: glam rock. This week, on (Untitled), Ezra and Uma get thrilled by the nerve and verve of Roxy Music’s fully formed self-titled debut.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Understanding MA:63
In July this year, Sarawak announced that it was sending a delegation of legal representatives to London to search and study any references to the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, otherwise known as MA63. The announcement drew ire from some political parties, questioning the purpose of the trip and how it’d invite foreign intervention. Sarawakians have retaliated saying it goes to show how little Peninsula Malaysia understood them. We speak to Sabahan Zainnal Ajamain, a MA63 activist, and Sarawakian, Professor James Chin, from the University of Tasmania, to better understand what was in the Agreement and what rights the state is fighting for today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Plight of Our Army Veterans
Our armed forces keep the peace and maintain the security of our country but their own futures are not secure. We don't take care of them too well when they retire. For example, 60 per cent of ex-servicemen in Sarawak are living below the poverty line. Over the years, many organisations supporting army veterans have been popping up to help them. The Evening Edition speaks to the president of one of those army veteran welfare organisations. Ismail Abidin tells us about the lives and the needs of these people that once protected our sovereignty, and how we can do better in our care of them.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Slum Tourism
Slum tourism is a growing global industry. Each year, tens of thousands of curious visitors eschew typical tourist vacation destinations in favour of poverty stricken slums in cities like Mumbai, Johannesburg and Rio de Janeiro. We speak to a professor well acquainted with this debate.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Talkback Thursday: Public Holidays
We’ve all just come off a really long weekend, and it’s not yet over. In September alone, we have 6 public holidays, including replacement days. In total, we have 15 official public holidays every year. To put that in context, globally, we rank number 5 on the list of countries with the most public holidays. After the announcement of the extra September 4th holiday during the SEA Games closing ceremony, we had the usual debates. A lot of folk celebrated it, but there were some that felt that the extra holiday was unnecessary. So we’re asking you on Talkback today: Do you think Malaysia has too many public holidays? Our lines will be open.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Untitled #94 feat. The Battle of Los Angeles, by Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine shot to fame with their loud, distinctive and politically charged music. Combining elements of rap, heavy metal and funk, their first two albums became instant successes with the disenfranchised youth of America. Their third album - "The Battle of Los Angeles" - showed little difference lyrically, but it was better executed - striking a noticeable balance between music and message. This week on Untitled, Uma and Ezra bob their heads to the band's last original album.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In and Out of Malaysia
Most of us know at least one disgruntled Malaysian who has packed his/her bags and made that move overseas in search of greener pastures. Their reasons are similar; “I want better education for my kids” or “It’s better being a 2nd class citizen overseas than here in Malaysia”, etc. On the flip side however, are people, often migrants, desperately wanting to move to Malaysia for a better life, for a better job, for a better future. And in an ironic twist, it feels as if the number of Malaysians we hear wanting to get out of Malaysia almost equals the number of migrants wanting to move in to Malaysia. We hear from both perspectives in this Malaysia Day special.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
