Back in 2005, former obstetrician Datuk Dr Ronald McCoy suggested the idea to his peers in the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), to start a coalition called the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Fast forward to 2017, ICAN is now a coalition of 468 NGOs spread throughout 100 countries. A significant achievement for ICAN came in July this year, when the United Nations adopted ICAN's treaty to ban nuclear weapons.
