Ep 143Disney Hero Power Rankings
Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, a Disney Podcast that covers everything from “Who is Orange Bird” to ranking the MCU movies in NCAA college basketball fashion. If it’s Disney-related, we’re going to talk about it. This week in Disney News, legendary, newly-retired imagineer Joe Rohde is going to work for Virgin Galactic. We’re excited to see what he’s able to accomplish there! A Touch of Disney ticketed event will be happening at DCA, where people can walk around the park and get food and photos. Lastly, Disney+ announced their release dates for the Mighty Ducks Gamechangers, Big Shot, The Bad Batch, Monsters at Work, Turner and Hooch, and Chip n Dale Park Life. For our main show, we’ll be talking about our Top 5 Disney Heroes. Disney has a whole bevy of chivalrous characters, especially since they acquired Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel, but which ones make the top of our list? Which Avengers make the cut? Will I be able to convince Joe that Emperor Palpatine is not an actual hero? Learn the answer to this question and many more by tuning in. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

This means they’ll roll straight from Wandavision to the documentary to Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Marvel fans are definitely doing a happy dance. Ep 141Alien Encounter ExtraTERRORestrial
This week in Disney news, despite the circumstances, Disney would still like Black Widow to be a theatrical release. Also, the Leave a Legacy monoliths are back, but in a different form. There is now a rainbow wall outside the park where you can take your picture and post it on your instagram because walls are a thing. Love is in the air. Valentine’s Day is such a nice, happy holiday. So...let’s imagine we’re in a bizarro world where instead of happy, fun times, Disney is known as a place that can deliver truly chilling ride experiences. They develop a ride around the idea of a well-known sci-fi horror film in which an alien eviscerates human beings. In the ride, an alien escapes its containment pod and rampages throughout the auditorium, surprising and horrifying guests with what seems like blood spatter, neck breathing, and the alien itself jumping onto your shoulder harness. No need to imagine that, because from 1995-2003, such a ride existed: ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Although the ride never ended up including the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise because...wow that’s not a fit with the Disney brand...it did have a horrifying animatronic alien created by George Lucas himself to help audience members have nightmares for days. Why did Disney decide to take this path? Why not use the Xenomorph from Alien? Why Tomorrowland? What kind of crazy parent would take their child on this? We answer these questions and more in this week’s chilling episode. Looking to plan a trip to Disney? Book with our official travel agent Becky Ginther from Castle Dreams Travel. Ep 140History of "I'm Going to Disney World"
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney news, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler signs a 5-year deal with Disney. He and his company Proximity Media will be helping with new content for Disney+, including a Wakanda series! Also, in Park news, Tomorrowland Terrace, Lunching Pad, and Westward Ho are going to be closed Monday-Thursday through March 8th, but open for the weekends. Since the Super Bowl was yesterday, we thought it would be appropriate to talk about the fascinating origin of the Super Bowl MVP saying, “I’m going to Disney World” after winning the big game. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that the statement isn’t an organic thing that just gets said every year, but instead is a marketing technique. However, you may be surprised to learn the idea cropped up at a dinner with Mike Eisner, Jane Eisner, George Lucas, Dick Rutan, and Jeana Yeager. Rutan and Yeager had just completed the first astounding successful non-stop, non-refueled flight around the world. Rutan joked all that was left to do was go to Disneyland, and an idea was born. During this episode, we talk about how the idea got off the ground, when this all started, how much the MVP gets paid to say it, and much more! Don’t forget to leave a review on iTunes and snap a picture of it to share on our Facebook page. We’ll be drawing one lucky winner on Friday to receive our coffee prize package of a Disney tumbler and Expedition Roasters coffee. Plus, all this month receive 15% off your order from Expedition Roasters with the code "Enchanted" Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 139Tony Bancroft: Former Disney Animator and Director
Hello and welcome to Enchanted Ears Podcast where we talk about anything and everything Disney. This week we're delighted to share our interview with Tony Bancroft with you, but first, Disney News. This week in Disney News, The Jungle Cruise is going to be undergoing an update similar to, but not nearly as extensive as, Splash Mountain to make it more PC. This needed change will not have anything to do with the Jungle Cruise movie set to come out this summer. In rides-on-the-fritz news, The Three Caballeros continues to delight guests (a phrase that hasn’t been used about this ride maybe ever). After The Donald Duck animatronic broke, he was replaced by a plant. Now, all three animatronics are gone and replacing them? Cardboard cutouts. I’m glad to see that even a company as seemingly perfect as Disney has to phone it in every now and again. 🤣 Our guest this week is the ultra-impressive Tony Bancroft, lead animator of Pumbaa and Kronk, one of the directors of Mulan, author of Directing for Animation: Things You Didn't Learn in Art School, and co-host of The Bancroft Brothers Podcast. Dang...the accomplishments...what am I doing with my life? Tony gives us some incredible insight into what it's like to be both an animator (you may or may not get taxidermied warthog heads in your office and be in danger of getting mauled by a lion) and director of a Disney animated film when you're at the ripe old age of 26. We also learn about his mentor and how he got into designing comedy characters. He gives us interesting insight into what it's like watching a movie you helped create, and it's not all rainbows and butterflies. And have you ever been the boss of your twin brother? Tony has! Find out what it was like to manage Tom during what was certainly a pressure-cooker of an experience. Lastly, he gives some tattoo-on-the-forearm-worthy advice about how to stand out in a creative endeavor. Once again, we want to thank Tony for letting us steal some time and talking to us. We learned a lot and had a blast (and also received some amazing free entertainment during a brief audio issue at the beginning of our call). And lastly, if you wouldn't mind, pop over to your pod-delivery service and leave us a nice review. It helps us get into more ears and gives us the ability to talk to amazing people like Tony! Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 138Disney Decade: The 2000s
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your one-stop-shop for anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney news, Disney’s officially getting rid of Extra Magic Hours. Instead, they’ll be opening the parks up 30 minutes early if you’re staying on property. Also, The Festival of the Lion King is coming back to the Animal Kingdom, which bodes well for live entertainment coming back to the parks. Despite the announcement, we’re yet to receive a start date for the return of the king. Lastly, all five seasons of The Muppet Show have arrived on Disney+. This week, we’re resuming the Disney Decade series with the 2000s. Like many of the decades we’ve covered so far, this one is filled with its share of struggle, growth, strife, and success. However, this decade also comes with a hefty spoonful of acquisitions. Disney struggles after the Renaissance of animation ends and the slowdown in tourism caused by 9/11. Fighting in the boardroom ends in the CEO resigning and the rise of a new CEO. Disney acquires Fox Family, Pixar, and Marvel in what turns out to be fantastic deals for them. They fail, however, to acquire Universal Studios, which we think is ultimately a good thing. Amid the many forgettable movies that were produced, Stitch rises to the top and has proven to be a king for them. Also, live action movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure flourish. Listen in to hear more about this very important decade. Thank you as always for supporting us. Don’t forget to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. Then head over to Facebook to enter our Expedition Roasters coffee giveaway. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 137Over/Under Rated Attractions: Hollywood Studios Edition
Disney News is jam-packed this week. Disney announced that they’ll be discontinuing annual passes for Disneyland. On the East Coast, they announced starting 2022, they’ll no longer be offering the Magical Express service. Both of these announcements shook the Disney community. We speculate why and talk about how this will impact guests, cast members, and drivers. In much better news, Pixar's Soul will be entering the parks far faster than pretty much any other Disney property. They’ll be having a history of jazz exhibit inside The American Adventure, with Joe Gardner making appearances. Our episode this week is the final one (for now) in the Overrated/Underrated Disney Attractions series we have using touringplans.com. If you’ve never heard one of these before because listening to more Disney podcasts was your New Year’s resolution, we look at the ratings on touringplans and then pick a 2-4 attractions we believe their users overrated and 2-4 we believe they underrated. We’ve done all of the Disney Tokyo parks and with this episode focusing on Hollywood Studios, we finish our Disney World rankings. (Disneyland, we’re coming for you next!) So, what rides in Hollywood Studios do we think are overrated? I think you’re going to be surprised by some of our picks. And what rides are underrated? Be sure to let us know on our Facebook Enchanted Ears or our group Enchanted Ears Family. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 136Magic Kingdom Attraction Power Rankings
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast where we talk about anything and everything Disney! We hope you all had a delightful New Year and you’re still working on those resolutions. This week in Disney News, park hopping’s back! Hooray! Also, according to the Dis Insider, rumor has it that the West-End version of Aladdin may come to Disney+ by the end of 2021. What would this mean and do we think it’s a good idea? Finally, Wandavision comes out Friday and is already getting rave reviews saying it’s nothing like anything else they’ve ever done. There will be 9 episodes total, two of which will be released this Friday. This week we start a new series, Power Ranking our favorite attractions in each park. This time we tackle the Magic Kingdom! We have some surprising picks and some not-so-surprising-picks. We even tie on a few of our choices! What will be the definitive best ride in Magic Kingdom? Space Mountain? Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? Splash Mountain? Country Bears Jamboree? You’ll have to listen and see. Let us know what your MK Power Ranking would be on our Facebook page Enchanted Ears Podcast or our group Enchanted Ears Family. Have a magical week. We hope this is the start of a magical year! Ep 135Walt Disney World 2020 Trip Recap
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we sometimes have looooong podcasts about the best subject in the world, Disney! Soooo, we went to Disney, a situation and decision we definitely wrestled with. But after considering many many factors and after countless conversations, we decided to go. In this episode, we discuss our trip. The first thing we tackle is the measures put in place to mitigate the risks guests have and the appreciation the cast members showed for the guests. From there, we move into the park capacity and how/why it may seem a little more crowded than you’d think it would be. There were longer lines for rides, getting into stores, but not to get food, which you mostly had to order through the My Disney Experience app. Then we go into just how delightful it was to spend an entire day on just one park with the absence of park hopping. We got to ride rides we’ve never made a priority before, and we really enjoyed them! Although we missed the meet and greets, the character cavalcades were soo fun! And the food festivities at EPCOT are always a delight. We also got to meet new characters and see some old favorites wearing some amazing costumes! Well that about does it for now. We hope you have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 133Disney World History with Author Chris Smith
Hello and welcome to The Enchanted Ears Podcast! Your place for anything and everything Disney. This week is a weird one since we have 2 episodes. Disney News was supersized due to the investors' meeting, so it gets its own show. Hooray!! We were so lucky this week to talk to Disney Historian Chris Smith. (How cool is it to be described as a "Disney Historian"?) He gives us the DL on so many things Disney from unbuilt attractions to things you would likely miss at Pecos Bill's to a deep dive into the attic scene on Haunted Mansion. We talked about the Russia pavilion, Fire Mountain, Thunder Mesa, and so much more! Thank you so much to Chris for the awesome interview! Be sure to check out his latest book, Magical Half-Century: Stories Celebrating Walt Disney World's First 50 Years, or his other books, The Walt Disney World that Never Was and Backstories and Magical Secrets of Walt Disney World Volumes I and II. We'll see you next week! Byeeeee! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 134Disney Investors Day Announcements
Because a 4 hour long investor's meeting can't be boiled down into the News segment of the regular podcast, this is an extra magical BONUS episode! (Now imagine fireworks and pixie dust exploding into the air around you!) Holy cow, did we learn a LOT by watching this meeting, it's difficult to even know where to begin with a highlight reel for this description. SOOOO, I think the most appropriate thing for us to say is this: there's a WHOLE LOTTA content coming to Disney+ over the next several years. Not only is there a lot, but it all also sounds like quality IP that people are elated about. From a Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers live-action movie with the likes of John Mulaney and Andy Sanberg to everything under the sun MARVEL to a whole lotta Star Wars spinoffs. Like everything. So tune in and learn about/hear our take on all of the announcements that were made. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 132Pitching Movies Based on Original Attractions
Hello and welcome to this wonderful and wacky podcast where we discuss anything and everything Disney! This week in Disney News, Disney released more new merch connected with their 40 year partnership with Make a Wish. Currently, you can buy royal blue merch to show your support. If you need some stocking stuffers, if you buy the Aladdin Wishables (Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, the Lamp, and Magic Carpet) 100% of the proceeds go to Make a Wish. In this fun episode, since The Jungle Cruise is getting its own movie, we brainstorm additional Disney rides that we would like to see movies made for. These rides include Space Mountain, Figment, Expedition Everest, Mission Space, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. For some, we have general themes and for others, we have some pretty well fleshed-out ideas. If you have any other ideas for rides that would make great movies or just want to pitch a movie for one of the ones we mention in the podcast, hit us up on social media at Enchanted Ears on Facebook, enchantedearspodcast on Instagram, or try just yelling your ideas at us from the nearest mountaintop. I doubt that last one will be very effective, but it'd sure be funny! Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 131Using a Travel Agent and Trip Recap with Becky from Disney in Your Day
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, one of your top 100 favorite places to get the latest Disney News and hear two amateurs talk about anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney News, Joe Rhode, the ultra-accomplished imaginer behind basically the entirety of Animal Kingdom, Mission Breakout, and Aulani announced that after 40 years with the company, he plans to retire in January. We wish him nothing but the best! Also, Disney started doing random pyrotechnics in Magic Kingdom to go with the projection mapping on the castle that are set to end on January 1. Is that when the shows will come back? Maybe. This week, we are happy to welcome Becky Ginther back to the show. As you may recall from Episode 99, where we interviewed her about her RunDisney experiences, Becky is the genius behind the Disney In Your Day blog. This time, we discuss travel agents. What do they do? When should you use them? How much do they cost? We also talk about Becky’s latest trip to Disney. Did she feel safe? What kinds of precautions is Disney taking to prevent the spread? What are the best items at EPCOT right now? We’d love to extend a huge thank you again to Becky for coming back to the show. If you’re interested in having Becky plan a trip for you, email her at [email protected] and let her know Enchanted Ears sent ya! Have a magical week! Ep 130Pixar's Origin Story
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your one-stop-shop for anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney News, park hopping is set to return to the parks January 1, 2021. We also get a first look at a lot of new upcoming restaurants and attractions including the Star Wars Hotel. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Toy Story, this week we’re talking about the history of Pixar. From not-so-humble beginnings with George Lucas to being owned by Steve Jobs, Pixar has had a fascinating trajectory. From its inception as the tech-division of Lucasfilm meant to sell software to being a multi billion (with a b) company that produces films that are beloved by generations of people, it’s been quite a wild ride. Thank you very much for joining us every week on this wild ride of a podcast. If, for some reason this isn’t enough and you’d like to see more of us, check out our YouTube channel, Enchanted Ears. Have a magical week, and Happy Thanksgiving! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 129Top 10 Unbuilt Attractions with Chris Lucas
This week in Disney News, Disney World has increased their capacity to 35%. Disney+ reaches 75 million subscribers!! Holy cow!!! And based on Bob Chapek’s comments about Disney+ and releasing Soul for free, we speculate on the possibility that Disney will be creating tiers for memberships sooner than we thought. On today’s episode we talk to actor and author Chris Lucas about his book Top Disney: 100 Top Ten Lists of the Best of Disney, from the Man to the Mouse and Beyond. We discuss how an influential childhood moment at Radio City Music Hall and his one-man play about Walt Disney lead to him writing this book. Plus, Chris came up with a special top ten list on unbuilt attractions just for our show! Sure you may have know EPCOT was originally supposed to be a City, but had you heard of the Godzilla Train attraction that Disney almost built in the Japan Pavilion? If you’d like to buy a copy of Chris’ book you can buy it on Amazon. You can also find his Reach the Stars Program at reachthestarsprogram.com. Be sure to use code SALE for 25% off. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 128Guess the Character From Their Voice
Hello and welcome to The Enchanted Ears podcast, the best place to be moderately entertained by a couple of people who are relatively knowledgeable about Disney and think they're funny. This week in Disney News, Disney announced a new donuts shop, Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew, is coming soon to Disney Springs. Angela has some ideas for the theming plus we discuss a unique way to add a tie-in to a fan-favorite Pixar franchise. Plus, we also discuss how Disney is getting one step closer to making West World a reality with their new human-like animatronic. In our main segment this week, strap on your thinking caps and play along with me as we play, Guess the Disney Character By His/Her Voice. Joe will play a clip of a character saying a sentence or two and you (and I) will try to guess based on the voice and context clues alone. How many can you get out of 8? Be sure to let us know how you do in the comments on our social pages or in our Enchanted Ears Family Facebook Group. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 127AJ From Disney Food Blog
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears podcast, your home for anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney News, Disneyland Paris is closed again due to the pandemic. If all goes well, they may reopen briefly..... To add fuel to the flames, Disney announces more layoffs at Disney World. Ending on a more positive note, Disney makes changes to the virtual cue for Rise of the Resistance. You no longer have to be in-park when it opens to see if you receive a boarding group. You can now log in at 7 am from the comfort of your hotel or home and know whether you’ll be able to ride the ride. 🎉 This week we’re excited to bring you an interview with Disney Food Blog’s own, AJ Wolfe. AJ started Disney Food Blog (DFB) as a way to talk about the delicious food offered in the parks at a time when nobody on the internet was really talking about it and now she has a massively successful blog and YouTube channel mostly dedicated to the delicious treats and eats found in the parks. Among many other things, we ask AJ about her favorite assignments, favorite places to eat in each park, and one of our favorite topics to discuss on the show: is the Disney dining plan worth it. We think you’ll find her answers enlightening because we sure did!! A big thank you to AJ for taking time to talk to us and for you for listening. If you’re new to the show, don’t forget to subscribe anywhere you get your podcasts. Also, check out our YouTube channel, Enchanted Ears for more Disney-related fun! Thank you for tuning in. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 126Mandalorian Season 1 Recap
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears podcast, your home for all things Disney. This week in Disney News, California released when theme parks can reopen, but with cases surging and the requirement being that the state needs to be in the lowest tier, it seems that Disneyland’s reopening will be some time far in the future. In better news, parts of DCA will open to the public for shopping and eating. Also, the trailer for Riya and the Last Dragon released. It has an interesting premise and animation. The looming question in our minds is will the movie be released in March 2021 like it’s supposed to be, or will it be possibly be released directly to Disney+? Time will tell! With season 2 of The Mandalorian fast approaching, we give you a Mandalorian recap episode (mostly because we needed one ourselves). We talk about the most important takeaways from season one and finish up with our predictions (and concerns) about season 2. Also, we delve into what characters will be returning and which characters will be joining (or are speculated to be joining) the ever-expanding series. Thank you for tuning in. Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 125Tokyo Disney with Chris from TDR Explorer
Hello! Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your favorite place to hear a couple of Disney nuts (and their sleeping co-worker, Loki) share Disney News, interview interesting guests, teach Disney history, and engage in general tomfoolery. This week in Disney news, Disney announces that they’ve restructured their company, putting more emphasis on streaming. We discuss what this could mean for the future of theatrical releases, plus how this might impact the cost of Disney+. Also, Walt Disney World as opened up bookings through the end of 2021 and it looks like the Park Pass Reservation system is here to stay. We're excited to bring you another interview this week, this time with Chris from TDR Explorer. Chris runs a fabulous website, podcast, and YouTube channel revolving around the Asian Disney Parks. There he gives innumerable tips, tricks, and info about the parks in order to satiate your curiosity and make your trip to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and/or Shanghai as successful and not stressful as possible. During the episode, we talk all things Tokyo Disney. Chris answers many pressing questions that both you and we were wondering. "What's The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast actually like?" "What are the best Tokyo Disney snacks?" "What are the biggest mistakes people can make when visiting the parks?" "What's your favorite popcorn bucket?" Soo many questions! Thank you so much to Chris at TDR Explorer for talking with us! Don't forget to check out Chris on tdrexplorer.com, his podcast TDRNow, and his YouTube channel TDR Explorer. Ep 124Which Disney Characters Would We Adopt?
Hey, you! Yes, you! Fancy seeing you here! Thanks for joining us for another week of Enchanted Ears, your place for anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney News, a live-action Lion King sequel has been announced with Moonlight director Barry Jenkins at the helm. This movie is set to explore young Mufasa's life and we're casually optimistic about it. Also, in a not-so-surprising turn of events, Disney announces that Pixar's Soul will be released directly to Disney+ on Christmas day. Lastly, Space Mountain appears to be the next ride in line to join the ranks of Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and Haunted Mansion by having its own movie. We speculate where it will be released and what on earth they have to go on. It seems to be a dark void of possibility, that's sure to have a few stars. (Puns very very intended.) This week, we were inspired by our new kittens, Laszlo and Nandor, and thought, "If we could have Disney animals as our pets, who would we want to adopt?" In this hilarious episode, you learn a LOT about Joe and I based on our picks. Take a guess on who goes with mostly conventional creatures and who goes with more exotic pets. We also pick apart each other's choices because it wouldn't be any fun if we didn't give each other a hard time. Be sure to let us know who YOU would choose to have as your Disney pets on our social media outlets, especially our Enchanted Ears Family Facebook Group. We hope you have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 123Disney Decade: The 1990s
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your favorite place to hear a guy named Joe and a lady named Angela talk about Disney until they’re as blue in the face as Stitch (which, to be clear, is a desired look). Ugh…Disney News this week is a bummer. Disney laid off 28,000 Cast Members due to the pandemic. If you’d like to help out the impacted Cast Members, consider donating to the Cast Member Pantry or local food banks in Orlando and Southern California. Also, in more bleh news, D23 has been postponed until 2022. The upside though is they’ll announce some of their 100th Anniversary festivities. It’s hard to introduce the topic this week after that, but this week we continue a fan favorite series, Disney Decade. This go round we’re delving into the 1990s. The ‘90s is maybe one of Disney’s best decades to date. The Disney Renaissance happened, there are massive park expansions and new parks built, great TV shows are made, sooooo many hotels come to fruition, and Disney acquires a major TV network. Thank you so much as always for listening! We hope you have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 122Attraction Backstories You Never Knew
Hello and welcome to the best Disney podcast that is recorded by a couple of Disney-loving, kitten-crazy, floppy eared dog enthusiasts. This week in Disney News, rumored earnings from Mulan make the movie a huge success. This makes us wonder if the rumor that Pixar's Soul will also be released on streaming has a strong likelihood to be true. Tokyo Disneyland also soft-opened Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast, another trackless ride with lots to see. Joe and I watched the ride video and were a little underwhelmed, but maybe it's different if you actually ride it! Sit back this week and prepare to have your mind bent and your ride experiences forever altered. Let me explain. You know how authors tend to write more background on a character than is ever given in a story? This week, we delve into the not-so-well-known ride backgrounds after seeing the mind-blowing post that you're actually dead when riding The Haunted Mansion. Yep! You read that right! You die during the ride! Hear about this and other crazy ride backgrounds that you wouldn't guess in your wildest dreams. (Seriously, you won't believe the back stories for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad OR Pirates of the Caribbean!) We hope you have a magical week full of pumpkin spice (if that's your sort of thing) and apple-picking. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 121You Can Only Keep One: Disney Renaissance Edition
This week in Disney news we discuss the new show all about the Animal Kingdom coming to Disney+. Plus, Chris Hemsworth says he isn’t done with Thor and we couldn’t be happier! We've already shared how tough it is to rank the Disney Renaissance movies in Episodes 116 and 117. To stay on topic, this week we do another round of You Can Only Keep One with things from the Disney Renaissance. Our choices are: Tarzan, Aladdin, or Mulan Hercules, Beauty and the Beast, or The Little Mermaid Genie, Timon and Pumbaa, or Mushu "Be Our Guest," "Friend Like Me," or "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "A Whole New World," or "I Won't Say I'm in Love" and finally, all of the movies scored by Alan Menken vs. each other (that's 6/10 movies!) Ep 120Covering Disney with Carlye Wisel
Hello! It's so good to theoretically see you here! Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your place for anything and everything Disney. This week we'll jump right into the main topic. We interviewed theme park reporter, Carlye Wisel, who has written many ballin' articles for little tiny names like Travel+Leisure, Business Insider, and SyFy Wire. Just kidding obviously. Carlye is smart, funny, and super kind, so it's no wonder why she's achieved such success. In our interview, we discuss such hot topics as popcorn, cuz, I mean, who doesn't love Disney's popcorn? We talk about Adventures by Disney. Yes! We found someone who has actually gone on one and LOVED it! We talk about how she got into writing about Disney, her favorite places to eat, her famed accomplishment of attending 3 Disney openings in one day, and much more! We had an absolute blast talking to Carlye! Check out her articles and her new podcast Very Amusing! (which I just got is a pun...wow) anywhere you get your podcasts. As you'd expect, she does some hard-core reporting and digs out some really interesting facts about the parks! Thank you Carlye and to you listeners! Have a magical week! Ep 119Guess the Song Lyric - Animated Movie Edition
Hello and welcome to your FAVORITE Disney podcast, Enchanted Ears! I'm so excited to share the game with you this week, but first, let's go over some Disney News. This week, Disney announced that the Poly would be undergoing a Moana re-theming. Plus, the live-action Mulan dropped on Disney+. We discuss whether it's worth your money. Back by popular demand is the Guess the Disney Song Lyric game. This time around, we have 10 more lyrics for you to guess. (If you missed it, check out episode 94 where we do the same thing with different songs.) The rules are simple. Either Joe or I will play part of a song and it's up to the other person (and you!) to guess the next line. Will Joe be able to unseat me as the reigning lyric champion? Will he lose and cry because he's lost all hope like Anna toward the end of Frozen 2? Or will I be the one crying and throwing myself on the bed like an old-school Disney princess? Listen and see. Also, don't forget to let us know how you did on our Facebook page or better yet, on the Enchanted Ears Family Group. Head on over there to interact with us and engage with other Disney fans. We could all always use more pixie dust in our days! Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.
Ep 118Over/Under Rated: Tokyo DisneySea Edition
This week in Disney News, we pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Boseman passed away on Friday from colon cancer. Known for his roles as Jackie Robinson in 42 and Tchala in The Black Panther and other Marvel movies, Boseman's powerful portrayal of strong, proud, wonderful black men helped tell the stories of people too long kept in the shadows. He helped give representation to the underrepresented. He will truly be missed. It's hard to now talk about other Disney news, but there is some, so I guess I'll move forward. Mulan will be released on Disney+ in December, just 3 months after when it'll be out on streaming services to be purchased for $30. We discuss how we think this will impact its performance. Also, Disney has a new Haunted Mansion reboot movie in the works with writer Katie Dippold, who (most notably for me worked) on the glorious show Parks and Rec. Lastly, Disney announced that despite canceling Mickey's-Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party, they're still decorating, having special character cavalcades, making special desserts, and letting ADULTS WEAR COSTUMES!!!! Just go to Disney any time between September 15 and October 31 to experience this awesome opportunity! This week we continue our Overrated/underrated series. As per the norm, we look at the amazing website touringplans.com and use their rating system of 1-5 (one being exceptionally bad to five being amazing) to determine what rides we think are too hyped and which need to receive more love. We go far, far away to Tokyo DisneySea this time. We struggle a bit with the difficult task of trying to find overrated rides in what’s an exquisitely done park. We flourish and actually agree a lot on many of the rides that are underrated. How is it possible that a roller coaster gets a 1? Should a carousel be ranked higher than a 2.5? Is the ride with the most buzz worth waiting 1.5 hours? We’ll answer this and so much more! Thank you for checking us out this week! Don’t forget to leave us a rating and review. It helps us keep doing this and reach a larger audience. Also, if you know someone who loves Disney and likes podcasts, send them a link to our podcast. The more traction we gain, the better we can make this! You guys are awesome!! Ep 117Ranking the Disney Renaissance Part 2
Last week, we covered our favorite Disney Renaissance movies 7-10, so this week is Part 2, our top 6 picks of all 10 Renaissance movies. If you missed last week, be sure to check out that episode first! If you haven't listened to that, stop reading here. Just to recharge your memory, we ranked Pocahontas 7th, The Hunchback of Notre Dame 8th, The Little Mermaid 9th, and Rescuers Down Under 10th. In that episode we also explained that the Disney Renaissance is a group of 10 animated movies released from 1989-1999, which really helped to bring Disney back to the forefront of entertainment. This week, we have to battle it out with each other to put the movies in the "correct" order, and I'm still not sure we got it quite right. Some things we looked at to determine the top movies (because let's face it, they're all amazing movies) are music, character, storyline, setting, and voice actors. We certainly had our hands full! Also, again, we'd like to say a big thank you to some of our favorite Disney podcasters and bloggers for picking some of their favorites and explaining why they love them so much!! This was a fun few episodes to make and it wouldn’t be possible without you all and your amazing sound bites! Don't forget to subscribe and review our podcast. It helps us out massively. And tell a friend! Here's a sample of that conversation: You: Hey, friend! How are you? Friend: Great, how are you? You: I'm great! I've been listening to this podcast a lot and it really adds some magic into my days! Friend: I could always use more magic in my day! What podcast is it? You: Enchanted Ears! Joe and Angela are pretty awesome. Be sure to check it out. Friend: Gee, golly, I sure will! See how easy that was? Have a magical week! Ep 116Ranking the Disney Renaissance Part 1
Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, The Rock’s #1 choice for best Disney podcast done by a couple of high school sweethearts with a 10 inch height difference. We can’t wait for you to listen to this week’s episode, but first, some Disney News! Last week Living with the Land malfunctioned, causing the jets to shut off and the boats to drift backward. If you think that sounds like it would be a fun ride, we’re with you! Also, Disney comes to an agreement with the Equity Actors’ Union which will enable some of the character shows to restart at the parks. Yay!! This week we’re so excited to bring to you part 1 of our 2 part series, Ranking the Disney Renaissance Movies. The Disney Renaissance is a group of 10 animated movies released from 1989-1999, which really helped to bring Disney back to the forefront of entertainment by returning to Walt’s formula of telling well-known tales. In it, Disney found massive success and produced some of their most beloved movies. They also worked through an era of technical growth, with the use of the new CG animation. This week and next, we go through the movies ranking them 10-1. We discuss what makes these movies so lovable, and in some cases, what makes them not work as well as others. It was a tough job, but someone has to do it! Also, a big thank you to some of our favorite Disney podcasters (Curtis and Lindsay from Geekin' on WDW and Trent and Jeni from Disney DNA) and bloggers for picking some of their favorites and explaining why they love them so much!! This was a really fun episode to make and it wouldn’t be possible without you all and your amazing sound bites! Tune in next week for part 2! Have a magical week! Ep 115Skipping the Lines with Len Testa from Touring Plans
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast! This week we're going to get straight into it because do we have quite an amazing podcast for you! This week we interviewed Len Testa, president and creator of touringplans.com, coauthor of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, and one of the two hosts of the Disney Dish podcast. Yeah...we know...super impressive, right? For the majority of the podcast, we talk about touringplans, a website that helps you to create the best plan to get you through the park on any given day. It gives you actual wait times of the rides and allows you to save your valuable time. You may also recognize it because we use touringplans' ratings for our Overrated/Underrated episodes. We talk to Len about how he originally conceived of the idea, what common mistakes people make when planning their day, what the parks have been like since reopening, what he feels is touringplan's most overrated and underrated rides, his favorite restaurant, etc. We had such a fun time talking to Len, and we appreciate his time and candor. Please check out all things Len if you haven't already. Have a fabulous week, everyone! Ep 114Disney Decade: The 1980s
This week in Disney News, Animal Kingdom announces a new baby mandrill born on July 25, and Angela gets weirdly emotional about it. National Geographic will be releasing a new show detailing the behind the scenes activities at Animal Kingdom this fall. Surprisingly, with new movies still on hold, Pixar announces a new movie, Luca, set to come out summer 2021. Finally, the latest rumor is that Disney’s looking to replace The Hall of Presidents with something a little more long-lasting (aka doesn’t need updating every 4-8 years). And for our main topic, we continue our long-running Disney Decade series by heading back to the 1980s. The 1980s was an interesting and important inflection point for the Walt Disney Company. Between building a new theme park and Board Room shakeups, Disney almost didn’t make it out of the decade as an independent company. But out of this struggle rose an even stronger company with the end of the decade bringing about the beginning of the Disney Renaissance. Ep 113The Best Disney Friendships
This week in Disney News, photos of Cinderella Castle have come out amidst the massive repaint job revealing that the castle is essentially a massive paint by numbers! Pretty cool, right!? Also, Food and Wine has officially started! 😋 What delightful delicacies are available this year? Disney also announces a new animated series to follow the recently concluded and very popular series The Clone Wars. This successor’s called The Bad Batch and it already has a ton of people very excited. Lastly, Mulan has been taken off the schedule of movies to come out indefinitely while we wait to see how long until the world is able to go back to normal. Fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later. In honor of International Day of Friendship, we decided to play “Guess the Disney Best Friend.” Play along as Angela narrates as one best friend describing his/her pal. If you need a little extra help, listen for the 3 hints and definitely don’t listen to Joe’s silly guesses. Joe, seriously, when did Geralt of Rivia and his horse, Roach, become Disney characters? Keep track of your points and be sure to gloat to Joe on our Facebook @enchantedears if you beat him. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon
Ep 112Club 33
This week in Disney News, Disney reopened on July 11th. Since then, it seems that the crowds have been pretty low, and there have already been a few adjustments made to the mask policy. Gaiters and bandanas are no longer accepted as mouth coverings. You need a double-layered mask. Character interactions are occurring in the form of character cavalcades on floats. Also, Disney announced some permanent ride closures. Stitch’s Great Escape, Primeval Whirl, and Rivers of Light are all closed for good. Shhhhhh...this week we’re discussing a super-secret society, shrouded in mystery since it opened in 1967. If you haven’t already guessed (or just read the episode title), that’s Club 33! We discuss every facet of the club we could find available for the plebeians online. What is Club 33? Why was it created? How do you become a member? Where is it located? How much does it cost? What are the perks? What does it look like? What celebrities might you see if you go? What’s the food like? And there’s so much more! End the mystery already, and listen! Also, congratulations to our contest winners Julia and Brittany! Thanks for supporting the show. And thanks to all of you for supporting the show! We wouldn’t do this without you! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon
Ep 111You Can Only Keep One: Food Edition
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney! This week in Disney News, James Gun gives a massive endorsement to Cosmic Rewind, the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride going into EPCOT saying it’s, “Utterly mind-blowing.” Speaking of “utterly mind-blowing,” if you haven’t already, be sure to check out Into the Unknown on Disney+. This binge-able documentary’s about the making of Frozen 2. It’s amazing to get some perspective into how Disney animated films are made. This week we do another rendition of You Can Only Keep One. This one’s all about food. Out of the following things, what would you keep and what would you give up? Le Cellier, Be Our Guest, or Sanaa Sci-Fi Diner, Beaches and Cream, or Mama Melrose Mickey waffles, Mickey ice cream bars, or Mickey beignets Churros, Dole whip, or all of Food and Wine Oga’s Cantina, Satu’li Canteen, or Delux Burger Character meal or fireworks dessert party Listen as we nearly split up over our choices. Also, you can help settle our biggest disagreement by voting on our Facebook to once and for all prove that Angela has much better taste than Joe. (Not to bias you or anything...but it’s clear that she’s right on this.) Thank you for listening and stay safe! Ep 110The Adventurers Club
This week in Disney News, Disney announces they're redoing Splash Mountain after some public pressure due to its ties to the movie Song of the South. It'll be rethemed as Princess and the Frog and it's actually been in the works for about a year. Also, Disney announces their park reservation system. We're so excited to talk about the Adventurers' Club this week, which used to be a club in what is currently Disney Springs. It was a magical place where actors, props, and the atmosphere would immerse you in the world of an explorer...oh and it was December 31,1937 every day. That's right, every night culminated in a beautiful New Year's Eve fireworks spectacular! We go into the details (because this club was all about the details) that were involved in making this experience what sounds like a full-on joyride from when you came in to when you left. This includes one of the highlights of the Adventurers' Club experience, actors that were masters at improv and would converse with guests and star in stage shows. To fill out the experience more, there were talking animatronic heads, puppets, and unique traditions that would make you believe for a night that you were part of a vibrant secret society. Sadly, this club closed down in the 2000s. Listen to find out answers to questions like: What caused the club's downfall? Is there any portion of the club that lives on today? For more information, please check out the amazing video and article by reviewtyme and wikipedia, which we used as our source. We hope you're staying safe and well! Ep 109Former Disney Animator & Creator of Mushu Tom Bancroft
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast! Let's cut the other stuff for today because do we have a show for you! Today we interview legendary Disney animator Tom Bancroft. Mr. Bancroft managed to break into Disney just as the Disney Renaissance was in its infancy, so he worked on such iconic movies as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Mulan. He addresses topics like how he got hired by Disney, what it was like being one of the first animators to work in MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios), what the most difficult character he ever had to animate was, how to make a drawing come to life, and so so much more. I can't possibly put into words what an amazing source of knowledge Mr. Bancroft is and what a pleasure it was to talk to him. We could definitely see from his steel-trap-of-a-mind why he's so good at noticing all of the nuances of human (and animal) behavior, so he could pour that out onto the page to render the best possible estimation of real life for the movies we all know and love. Be sure to check out his podcast with his twin brother (and also Disney veteran) Tony, called The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast. Also, follow him on Instagram @tombancroft1 for news about his current work and upcoming graphic novel. Thank you to you, the listener, and of course, to Mr. Bancroft for taking the time to talk to us! Ep 108Over/Under Rated: Tokyo Disneyland Edition
Hello and welcome to the most magical podcast in your feed! This week in Disney News, Disney dropped a bunch of announcements regarding reservations and the reopening of the parks. This includes things like asking you which parks you'd like to visit and the times you'd like to visit, disallowing park hopping, and the sneak announcement of discontinuing giving out magic bands starting in January of 2021. This week we continue our series of Overrated and Underrated Disney attractions. This time, we do it for Tokyo Disneyland. We base our ratings on touringplan.com's ratings of park attractions and talk about why we disagree with the ratings. During this delightful show, I break Joe's programming when I bust the five star rating system. We discuss some of the implications of not speaking Japanese on our ride enjoyment and pay homage to the interesting spins on the American park rides. Thank you so much for lending us your ears. Don't forget to enter our contest to win QPoskets by checking out our website or Facebook. Also, be sure to tune in next week for our interview with legendary Disney animator Tom Bancroft! Ep 107History of Space Mountain
This week in Disney News, Disneyland announces its plan to reopen on July 17 with the hotels opening on July 23. Also, MLS will begin playing their games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Disney World early July through the beginning of August. This will be followed shortly after by the NBA who will play from the end of July until mid-October. Lastly, Artemis Fowl released on Disney+ at the end of last week. This week, we talk about Space Mountain. We go over a brief history, it's spread into the other other Disney Parks, and how it varies from park to park. Then we get into the nitty gritty and compare the original 2 Space Mountains. We finish by declaring our undying love to the best Space Mountain of all. Thank you for tuning in. We'll see you back here next week...or hear you...I guess we don't hear you, you hear us...eeeehhhh, you know what we mean. Ep 106Disney Decade: The 1970s
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week in Disney News, Disney's Head of Streaming leaves for a social media giant and other management shuffles around. Also, there's a rumor circulating that an animated Kingdom Hearts series is being developed for Disney+. We're definitely interested to see what happens and will tune in if this is real! This week we discuss the tumultuous 1970s. After the death of Walt in 1966, the company suffers yet another devastating loss when Roy passes. The company struggles to find its direction, but still manages to produce some really awesome movies and have some other great successes. Thank you so much for listening. We hope you have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon
Ep 105Disney World Reopening Plan
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we talk anything and everything Disney. This week is all news as we discuss the reopening of Disney World after its closure from Covid-19. We address all of the pertinent questions like what dates will the parks reopen? Will there be parades? Fireworks? Can I book a new trip? What about my existing trip? And much much more. Another main point of this episode is to discuss any upcoming Disney trip you may already have planned. In fact, to be honest, we'd have to say that this episode then turns into a pseudo Is it worth it? It's definitely worth hanging around until the end as we discuss what we're doing (or not doing) about our current trip we have planned for August. One final note: remember that as we all start going back out into the world that it's important to actually see each other. We've all developed a new appreciation for fast food workers, grocery store workers, nurses, etc in the midst of this pandemic. It's not over, but we're hopefully moving toward normal. Still, let's take what we learned during this time and remember that everyone's human and dealing with similar issues. Treating each other with love and respect would certainly be magical. And if you're an essential worker, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. There's a lot going on right now and information is still being released at a steady rate, so we'll do our best to answer any questions you may have in future episodes. Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week we’re getting married. Okay, we’re not. That ship sailed a while ago. We mean Disney weddings! With the release of Disney’s Fairytale Weddings on Disney+, it got us thinking a few things: 1. It’s soooo ballin’ to get married in Disney! 2. Could Rafiki officiate my wedding!? 3. What on earth do these things cost? Okay, mostly the last one. And dang...you’re going to be blown away by these prices! Let’s just say you better have a fairy godmother to bibbidi-bobbidi-boo you some serious caaash. And, of course, one thing leads to another and suddenly we’re planning a Star War’s fan’s biggest dream wedding in from of the Millennium Falcon complete with emo guest Kylo Ren and Stormtroopers doing the robot. Ep 102Shanghai Disney Reopening - What This Means for the US Parks
Hello and welcome to another delightful episode of Enchanted Ears, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week, we sort of flip the script a little and jump right into what’s on a lot of people’s minds right now: when are the parks going to reopen. Shanghai reopens today, so we discuss the measures being taken to protect park goers. Then we speculate how other parks will follow suit if all goes well. In News, you know it’s been a few years without a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, so we need to talk reboots. This time around, it seems they’re looking to press the restart button and revitalize the cast with a female lead (possibly played by Nebula actress Karen Gillan). With the rock-solid lineup of writers and producers, this Pirates fan (who pretends the last movie never happened) is optimistic for a fresh revival. Thanks as always for tuning in you magical beast, you! Have a great week! Ep 101The Aristocats
Hello! Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney! This week in Disney News, Disney’s announced they’ll be remaking their 1997 animated classic, Hercules. Dispute our mixed feelings over the remakes, we’re actually really excited to see how they update this one! This week, we talk about a group of 50-year-old cats...okay, you caught me. That was a bit salacious. What I meant to say is that this week we talk about the 1970 classic Aristocats, which turns 50 this year. Despite some shortcomings, Aristocats is a wealth of Disney history and interesting fun facts. Who would’ve guessed it’s loosely based on a true story? Did you know O’Malley was originally supposed to be a tabby cat? Learn about this and more! (This feels a little infomercially...but wait, there’s more! 🤣) When you finish listening, head on over to our YouTube channel to check out our content there. Ep 95History of Circle Vision
Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast. We know that by now you’re probably tired of being stuck at home. Some of you may even be jonesing for the comfort of a Disney Park. Don’t worry! The internet’s got you covered! Do like so many people are doing and watch ride videos or even better, make rides at home with your family that replicate the experience of being in the parks. With all of this uncertainty, there’s a lot of speculation about when the parks will reopen, what deadlines will be pushed back, and even changes to the Disney app. This is cray, ya’ll! In Disney News, Onward came out at the wrong time and so it didn’t perform well at the box office. But don’t let that deter you if you didn’t already see it. It’s a fantastic movie that you can now rent digitally! And when you’re done with that, Disney released Frozen 2 and Rise of Skywalker early on Disney+! In other news, the wonderfully talented actor Rosario Dawson signs on to be in the next season of The Mandalorian! 💃🏻 Finally, the new Jungle Cruise trailer dropped a few weeks ago, and we noticed some STRONG similarities to another Disney property. Our main topic this week is all about Circle Vision, the amazingly cool technology utilized in the Canada and China pavilions in EPCOT. Who came up with it? How long has it been used? How did they create a 360 degree view before 360 degree cameras existed? What are some of the unique challenges? Let your inner techie run wild as you listen to this podcast. Thanks for listening. We love you guys and appreciate you. Stay safe and enjoy this time with your family. Ep 94Guess the Song Lyric
Hello and a big welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your place to get some stress-free Disney-related entertainment. We kept Disney News short and sweet because honestly, we don’t want to talk about it and you’re probably sick of hearing it. All Disney Parks around the world closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Everyone stay safe and stay in. This week, play along as Angela and Joe (to a lesser degree) guess the missing Disney song lyrics. This may be one of our funniest episodes to date. If guessing song lyrics wrong was an Olympic sport, Joe would be sporting the gold medal. 🤣 Thanks for tuning in and lending us your ears. Stay well and love each other.
