News: This week, we got some more details about the Genie service coming to the parks soon. Over in Walt Disney World, the service will launch on October 19th. No date is set for Disneyland yet, but Disney says it will be announced soon. The Genie+ service, which is an additional cost, will be available at a number of attractions and works just like MaxPass from before the closure. Individual Lightning Lane selections will be an additional purchase on top of Genie+ and Lightning Lane, and will be priced from $7 to $15 per attraction, per guest. Autopia, Big Thunder, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones, it’s a small world, Matterhorn, Smuggler’s Run, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Star Tours. Disneyland is switching to a standby queue on days when the attendance are lower for the new attraction. Guests who get a boarding group at the 7am window will have their boarding group honored, but there may not be a need for the noon boarding groups, and switch to standby only. The Orange County Register thinks that it is still related to the COVID-19 health and safety regulations that have been in place since the parks reopened. There were some posts online this week that said the trams were needing repairs after not being run for nearly a year and a half and maintenance teams are already overloaded. So, the real answer to when the trams come back is anyone’s guess. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/11/when-will-disneyland-parking-lot-trams-return/ Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company has finally made it to the west coast from Florida. The coffee stand that sits at the entrance to Pixar Pier and Paradise Wharf was recently converted to a Joffrey’s, along with adding mobile ordering and some food offerings. Breakfast offerings are abailable until 11am, with a burrito available after. A chia fruit salad, sugar cookie, chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate croissants are offered all day. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/10/photos-joffreys-coffee-tea-company-makes-disneyland-resort-debut-at-the-gourmet-coffee-stand-at-disney-california-adventure/ Disney+ has been an excellent source of information and entertainment about the parks since it launched in 2019. A new movie, which will focus on the creation of Disneyland, will be debuting on the service in the future. The movie will be written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who worked on The Jungle Book 2 and Beauty and the Beast. David Gordon Green is set to direct. News: Halloween has been in full swing for the last few weeks, and another seasonal celebration has started. Now through November 2nd, guests can celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Storytellers, folklorico dancers, and Mariachi musicians will be in Flaza de la Familia in Disney California Adventure, along with some tasty Mexican food. The Musical Celebration of Coco will be presented several times daily. Lights are being installed on the exterior of the attraction in preperation for it’s a small world holiday, which will premiere on November 12th. The first guests to be able to experience the attraction will be able to do so at the Disney Merriest Nites event on November 11th. The display has a few iconic sights from the Haunted Mansion, with a Muppet skew to them, including the stretching room portraits, gargoyles, the busts that follow guests, and more. The popular holiday overlay celebrated the 20th anniversary on October 3rd. To commemorate this milestone, a glow in the dark shirt and water bottle appeared at Disneyland. Both items have Oogie Boogie in a Santa-inspired outfit, the Haunted Mansion, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, and says “Haunted Mansion Holiday 20th Anniversary, Disneyland Resort.” – https://www.micechat.com/303736-disneylands-haunted-mansion-holiday-celebrates-its-20th-scary-christmas/ The Orange County Register found a permit that Disneyland filed with Orange County to install some scaffholding and seating in Town Square on Main Street. This points to the return of the Candlelight Processional at Disneyland this year! The annual event was cancelled last year at both US resorts due to COVID-19. Plaza Point Holiday Shoppe will be a vistorian-era themed store which will change with the holidays throughout the year. Ornaments, housewares, linens, and accessories will be for sale. From September 20th through October 7th, Magic Key Holders can ride Haunted Mansion Holiday after park closing for an additional hour Mondays through Thursdays! The new location is labeled as “Photo Concierge” and will be the single location for photo services. The FastPass machines have been removed from most if not all locations where they were previously installed in order to prepare for the launch of Genie+ and Lightning Lane. The new services will be offered through the Disneyland App only, so the old machines are no longer necessary. Jessica Rabbit will be taking over a different role in the attraction as the story is updated to better reflect today’s mentality. Jessica will now be a Private Eye keeping an eye on the Weasels who are on a crime spree in Toon Town. Her busty character will be more modest with a trenchcoat covering her up, and her character has already been removed from the trunk of a car in the attraction. Imagineers are working on the updates outside of park hours to not close the attraction. The former Le Bat en Rouge shop has transformed from the deep rouge color to a new green and gold that is reminiscent of Princess and the Frog. News: Walt Disney World has offered after hours Christmas parties for a few years now, and this year Disneyland is getting in on the game! Disney Merriest Nites at Disneyland Park is a new, seperate ticketed event, taking place over five nights through November and early December. Tickets start at $165 per person and give access to 6 parties put on by Minnie Mouse, snow moments on Main Street, an appearance from Santa Claus, admission to Disneyland starting at 5pm, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, attractions excluding Toontown, Critter Country and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, photo ops, characters, treats, and of course merchandise. This years version is a metallic red and is available at the Red Rose Taverne for $16.99, with choice of a drink or fries. The Fruit Stand on Buena Vista Street also has the mug, without the fries option. A new Mickey Mummy Popcorn bucket arrived at the resort for $20.50. It features Mickey dressed as a mummy, holding a jack-o-lantern. From November 12th through January 9th the seasonal offerings of Holiday Magic will be available throughout the resort. A Christmas Fantasy Parade will also return, along with Believe… in Holiday Magic fireworks, and it’s a small world Holiday. Over at Disney California Adventure, The Festival of the Holidays is back celebrating the diversity of the holidays. Disney Viva Navidad! is a fun street party will join festive food and beverages throughout the park. Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl and Mater’s Jingle Jamboree are also back. Haunted Mansion Holiday celebrates its 20th year at Disneyland, along with the return of Halloween Screams “supernatural projection and special effects show,” which will run nightly September 3rd to October 31st. On weeknights, the show will be presented with projections only, with fireworks on the weekends only. Over in DCA, Cars Land has been transformed into the not-so-scary Radiator Screams, with Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween. Mobile order availability has been reduced, allowing more standby ordering to happen, easing the strain to get food. Guests wanting to be the top of the leader board will need to have one of these to score the highest points possible. This is virtual queue only at the moment, with slots available at 7am and noon each day. There is no standby. Guests that were able to snag a place in the queue can bypass the line to enter Avengers Campus and head in to board the attraction. Reviews are mixed and described the ride as a different version of Toy Story: Midway Mania. Riders use their hands to “shoot webs” at the different objects in the attraction to get a score and help Spider-Man save the Campus from the Spider-Bots, which have gone out of control. – https://www.micechat.com/292046-how-to-score-a-boarding-group-for-web-slingers-a-spider-man-adventure/ Pym’s Test Kitchen has been pretty well reviewed. Mobile ordering is the primary way to get food at this, and all the other dining locations in Avengers Campus, and has been less than ideal. On opening day, guests could order food when not in the land and could sometimes be allowed in to get their food, while other times being denied access. Over the weekend, they changed the notification so guests had to order in the land only, in addition to adding the order windows throughout the day, instead of only in the morning. The food itself is getting good reviews. The Pym-ini sandwich is reported to taste like a meat-lovers pizza in a sandwich. The Not So Little Chicken Sandwich also got good reviews. The Ration tastes like a Dole Whip mixed with a Churro. The daytime options include the New York’s Tastiest, which is a chicken shawarma wrap, with garlic spread, and a coconut yogurt-tahini sauce and pickled vegetables, and then there is the Impossible Victory Falafel, which is a plant based falafel and cauliflower wrap, garlic spread, hummus, and coconut yogurt-tahini sauce, with pickled vegetables. The Web-Shooters come in two varieties; a Web-Shooter that looks like Spider-Man’s web shooter, and a Repulsor, which looks like Iron Man’s repulsor. News: With June 15th quickly approaching, there are a lot of changes to be aware of with California Theme Parks with the expiration of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy. On June 15th, out of state guests will be allowed at theme parks, vaccine verification will be required, park capacity will not be restricted by the state, this includes shops and restaurants, physical distancing will not be required, indoor shows and queuing can return, masks will still be required indoors and outdoors for theme parks. One visible sign of this is the Disneyland Railroad, which explains why the attraction has been shut down by 3pm each day. The Indiana Jones Adventure is running a test of standby and virtual queue at the same time off and on at the moment. The Jungle Cruise extended queue, which Indy has been using, will be needed by the Jungle Cruise when that attraction reopens this summer. To enter the parks, guests will need a park reservation plus a valid theme park admission ticket. Reservations are currently limited to California residents, and groups of no more than three households. Reservations will launch on April 12th for guests that currently have valid theme park tickets (not annual passes), no earlier than 8am Pacific time. April 15th guests will be able to purchase new theme park tickets. Reservations will be made available on a rolling basis for greatest access to the most guests. Starting April 9th, guests will a valid ticket can check and see what dates they can request reservations for. Disneyland recommends that guests login to their Disneyland account and add the park tickets to the account before attempting to get reservations for the best chance at success. Park Hopping will be allowed, but only after 1pm on the reservation date. Guests with multi-day tickets will have to make separate reservations for each day they wish to attend. For those folks staying at a hotel on Harbor, the access is easier and you can arrive to Downtown Disney earlier than the 11:30am Mickey and Friends crowds. For locals, there is also the option to park at the Anaheim Hotel for $10 and walk over. The crowds do pick up in the afternoon and early evening, so getting in and ordering some food right away is a good idea. Entrance was slowed down due to having to scan the ticket, take guests photos, then scanning the $25 food gift card to enter. It appears that the Web Slingers attraction has a part of the track outside on the roof! We looked at some aerial photos to see if we could 100% confirm this, but there wasn’t a good angle to do so. There is a piece of concept art that has Mission Breakout in the background, so it could show proof of this. Ken Potrock issued a statement and emails were sent out to APs today “In the next several days, we will begin the process of issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current Annual Passport program due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and limitations and expected restrictions around the reopening of our theme parks.” He kept using the term “sunsetting” instead of canceling the program which seems intentional and a clear hint that the program will be back! He worked at the park, climbing the Disney ladder until 1994, when he retired as Executive Vice President, Walt Disney Attractions, West Coast. He was made a Disney Legend in 2000. News: Buena Vista Street has reopened and guests have descended upon the resort to step foot inside of a Disney park again. For those who may go in the near future, you will have to pay $10 to park in the Downtown Disney parking lot, stores are capped at 25% per state mandate, so be prepared to wait. To actually get access to Buena Vista Street, guests must wait in a queue or scan a daily-changing QR code to join the virtual queue. In Disneyland, the Partners statue was also refurbished. Over time, the bronze had oxidized, and because of the applied patina, acrylic polymer and wax, it required a more intensive process than just a simple cleaning or polishing. Over four days, an artisan utilized a process using crushed walnut shells to gently strip the figure down to the bare bronze. After cleaning, various chemicals were applied and heated with a blowtorch to create a reaction and fuse with the bronze.
