News: There is nothing that 2020 hasn’t touched at the resort so far, and the popular Halloween party “Oogie Boogie Bash” has been cancelled by Disney this week. We had hoped that the party would still be on this year, but with no direction from the state of California, there just isn’t enough time to plan, prep, and put on the party this year. No word yet on what, if any, Christmas decorations will be around the resort this year. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/oogie-boogie-bash-cancelled-at-disney-california-adventure-due-to-covid-19-pandemic-concerns/ and https://www.micechat.com/265236-canceled-oogie-boogie-bash-halloween-event-at-disneyland-resort/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/07/24/disneyland-cancels-oogie-boogie-bash-due-to-coronavirus/ Oogie Boogie’s Bash may be cancelled, but that doesn’t mean that there is no Halloween merchandise to buy! Neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings. This has been updated since our story about it last week. Guests may remove their face covering while actively eating or drinking outside, but must remain stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing from others. These policies were updated to close some loopholes that guests were finding in the policy to bypass the requirement. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/experience-updates/downtown-disney/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/07/23/disneyland-tightens-covid-19-mask-requirements-at-downtown-disney/ Two popular restaurants have reopened in Downtown Disney this week. Ballast Point and Tortilla Jo’s are now serving to-go food for outdoor eating, as it still is a mandate to not allow indoor dining. Tortilla Jo’s has a limited outdoor seating area to the right of their building and Ballast Point has an upstairs outdoor patio. Both restaurants require reservations. – https://www.micechat.com/265136-downtown-disney-updates-loophole-closed-more-restaurants-reopen/ As we spoke about on our public live stream this weekend, some Star Wars seasonal festivals might be coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The infomation on these events are from the new Star Wars book from Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering. In the “Traveler’s Guide to Batuu” they lay out the three festivals that take place in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. Black Spire Day is celebrated on May the 4th and commemorates the founding of the outpost. The Batuuan Harvest Festival is celebrated in the Fall and honors golden lichen, or “gold dust” which will be used in special drinks and dishes. Finally, Life Day, which debuted with the Star Wars Holiday Special, locals will celebrate peace, harmony, and freedom. Life Day was originally celebrated by the Wookies (like Chewbacca) on Kashyyyk, their home planet. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/rumor-black-spire-day-harvest-festival-and-life-day-seasonal-celebrations-coming-to-star-wars-galaxys-edge-at-disneyland-disney-world/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/07/26/are-3-star-wars-seasonal-festivals-coming-to-disneylands-galaxys-edge/ With everything still being on lockdown, especially cruise lines, Disney has released a virtual viewing of their Disney Cruise Line show “Tangled: The Musical”. News: Downtown Disney re-opened this week and one of our supporters, Liberty, took over our Instagram for the day to cover the occasion. Guests lined up outside the gates of the resort on opening day and crowds were pretty heavy. Once the gates opened, some of the stores like World of Disney and the Disney Dress Shop had a virtual queue system setup for access and to keep numbers of guests inside as socially distant as possible. Initially, crowds made it difficult for distancing inside of World of Disney and eBay resellers were quick to pick up as much of the new 65th anniversary merchandise as possible. On day 2, things were much more manageable and went smoothly. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/photo-report-downtown-disney-district-7-9-20-grand-reopening-social-distancing-temperature-screenings-and-more/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/07/09/photos-first-look-at-a-reopened-downtown-disney-at-disneyland-resort/ What is different now that Downtown Disney has reopened? The large parking garages, including Mickey and Friends and the Pixar Pals lot are not available. Parking is free for the moment, and doesn’t open until the posted time at the lot, which is currently 10am. – https://www.micechat.com/263030-downtown-disney-whats-open-and-whats-still-closed/ and https://disneyland.disney.go.com/experience-updates/downtown-disney/ The Walt Disney Family Museum has announced a day of special events to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Disneyland on July 17th. Guests will include Camille Dixon and Bill Rogers, the voices of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Legend Rolly Crump’s son, former Imagineer Chris Crump will also be present. The presentation will also include some home videos of Disneyland’s opening day. – https://www.micechat.com/263579-virtual-disneyland-65th-anniversary/ The Orange County Register spoke with TouringPlans about how many people Disneyland would actually be allowing into the parks when they do reopen. Based on the numbers from Shanghai and Walt Disney World Parks and data collected by TouringPlans, the estimate is about 10% of capacity, or about 8,500 guests, or 20% of the average daily attendance at Disneyland Park alone. DCA would have 5,000 guests, or about 18% of the daily count. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/07/14/how-many-people-will-disneyland-admit-with-reduced-capacity/ A statement was sent out to Disneyland and Disney World APs, giving passholders an update on the extensions Disney had promised back when the parks closed back in March. Walt Disney World APs will receive a 30 day extension to their passes. Disneyland Annual Passholders ware now being told that their extension would appear on their accounts 6 to 8 weeks after the parks reopen. The statement also noted that Disneyland will have park reservation rules and limited availability for its theme parks. Disneylay APs were originally told that their passes would be extended the number of days that the parks were closed but we have not her a definitive answer from Disney recently. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/07/14/disneyland-annual-passholders-to-receive-an-automatic-extension-on-passes-after-the-parks-reopen/ In a story that has been quiet for some time now, FuelRod has made some changes to it’s policy on free swaps. News: Downtown Disney will reopen this Thursday, July 9th at 10am, following a Cast Member preview on July 8th. The modified hours will be from 10am to 8pm for the time being. If you are planning on going, be aware that the Simba parking lot will be the only lot open. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12694/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_July_6__12_2020#news1 Downtown Disney will have a cast member preview on Wednesday, July 8th. Cast Members can register on the HUB portal to attend. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/downtown-disney-district-reopening-cast-member-preview-to-be-held-july-8th-at-the-disneyland-resort/ Orange County was placed on the monitoring list by the State of California and has been required to close indoor operations for the next three weeks. How will this effect the reopening of Downtown Disney? Businesses in the categories of restaurants, wineries, movie theaters and family entertainment, zoos, museums, and cardrooms must close all indoor locations, and bars must close all operations. Much of Downtown Disney is indoors, but retail was not included on the list, so World of Disney and similar stores can reopen. We suspect that outdoor seating at establishments like Napoli will be available. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/07/orange-county-shutting-down-all-indoor-operations-due-spike-in-covid-19-cases-downtown-disney-district-reopening-potentially-impacted/ The VOID VR experience in Downtown Disney has been permanently closed. Disney has posted a “Notice of Event Default and Lease Termination” and cites a breach of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture license. Masks are required on anyone 2 and older, fully cover the nose and mouth and remain hands free, fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, be secured with ties or ear loops. and be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable. Costume masks are not allowed. – https://www.micechat.com/262810-disneyland-update-partial-reopening-aerial-photos/ For those of you listening who have been out and about recently, you may have noticed that mask wearing is considered by some as something optional. With that in mind, how is Disneyland going to enforce the mask wearing requirement? The resort plans to deploy a team of cast members whose job will be to enforce this rule and other safety requirements. The new team will be the “Guest Experience Team” and will be throughout the parks to answer questions and to remind guests to comply with the measures. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/07/01/how-disneyland-will-enforce-mandatory-mask-rule-when-park-reopens/ I’m sure everyone listening is missing the Disney parks, so why not download, print out, and make your own at home? The Disney Parks Blog posted “Disney Paper Parks” sheets online, created by Imagineers Stephanir Jazmines and Amy Young. Simply go to the link in our show notes to download and print these fun sheets. When completed, they form a 3-d version of Main Street, USA and floats from the new Magic Happens Parade. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/07/walt-disney-imagineering-presents-new-disney-paper-parks-printable-3d-model-activity-sheets/ MiceChat posted some aerial images this week that show the work on the walkways around the hub appear to be nearing completion. These projects must be completed before guests return to the parks, whenever that may be. – https://www.micechat.com/262810-disneyland-update-partial-reopening-aerial-photos/ Disney released an update to the College Program suspension that was put in place shortly after the parks closure back in March. Book your travel through ConciEARS and get your first year of Touring Plans for FREE! Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: As is usual with posting out podcast episodes, Disney released big news right after our episode went live. Due to the State of California waiting until after July 4th to make any new announcements in regards to reopening requirements, Disney postponed the reopening of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, as well as the Resort Hotels. The company stated that they would just not have enough lead time to prepare the parks for opening. There has not been a date announced at this time, but is probably a bit off due to the rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the state. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/06/disneyland-resort-reopening-update/ and https://www.micechat.com/262288-breaking-news-disneyland-confirms-potential-park-reopening-delay/ Even though re-opening has been delayed, work is still happening inside the parks. The Frontierland bridge project is nearing completion, the path leading to the Matterhorn from the hub has also resumed work. Snow White, the Haunted Mansion, and King Arthur’s Carousel have also resumed work. Some painting has started in Toon Town on Mickey’s House, and the two big projects – Avengers Campus and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway have also resumed work. – https://www.micechat.com/262304-disneyland-update-splash-down-closures-new-aerial-photos/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/27/disneyland-resumes-200000-renovation-of-frontierland-gate/ Over in Disney California Adventure, work is continuing at Avengers Campus. From aerial photos, it looks like there is quite a crew working on getting the new land completed. Also, the Food and Wine booths have been removed from around the park, dashing the hopes of guests that hoped that the festival would return when the park reopened. – https://www.micechat.com/262304-disneyland-update-splash-down-closures-new-aerial-photos/ As we spoke about last week, there was a push to re-theme Splash Mountain to Princess and the Frog. This week, Disney Imagineering announced that they had been working on this exact proposal since before last summer. They released some concept art for the outside of the attraction. The re-theme will keep the general bones of the current attraction and add theming elements on top of it. They did not release any concept art for the interior. The new story will follow Princess Tiana and Louie on the way to their first Mardi Gras performance. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/06/new-adventures-with-princess-tiana-coming-to-disneyland-park-and-magic-kingdom-park/ and https://www.micechat.com/262305-breaking-news-splash-mountain-to-become-princess-and-the-frog-themed/ Cast Member unions and Disney have reached an agreement on the guidelines for their return to work at the parks. Cast Members will receive two weeks of paid sick leave if they contract COVID-19, thermometers will be provided to the cast members, and they will perform a COVID-19 test prior to heading to work under the new agreement. Cast Members that work within 6 feet of guests will be provided with a plastic face shield. Cast Members will also have the option to remain on furlough with benefits for the first recall. If they are recalled a second time, they will have to go on an approved leave of absence. Unions make up 28,000 of the 31,000 cast members at the resort. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/06/26/news-disneyland-and-union-cast-members-have-reached-an-agreement-concerning-their-return-to-work/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/25/disneyland-reaches-agreement-with-cast-member-unions-on-park-reopening-process/ In the before-times, Disneyland Ambassadors held their position for two years. Now, with the parks being closed and having to do a lot of their job on social media from home (and sometimes from the parks), their tenure has been extended by a year until January 1, 2022. I have to admit that I rather like them (they listen to the podcast) and am glad that Justin and Rafa are going to be sticking around. – https://www.micechat.com/262304-disneyland-update-splash-down-closures-new-aerial-photos/ This past Monday, Disney flew helicopters at elevations as low as 500 feet over the resort to get “footage for the future.” Disney did something similar to this a couple of weeks ago at Walt Disney World which included 3D modeling of the parks. This data can be used to create a digitally accurate model of the parks for use by Imagineers and other departments to

Join the All Enchanting Ears Ears of the Month Club! https://www.patreon.com/allenchantingears News: The plan that Disneyland proposed to the local and state governments was partially accepted last week, making it official that Downtown Disney, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel are cleared to open, in line with the proposed plan. The plan for the theme parks are still being reviewed and have not been approved as of the recording of this episode. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/06/downtown-disney-district-disneys-grand-californian-hotel-spa-and-disneys-paradise-pier-hotel-approved-for-phased-reopening/ The new Disney Parks Pass system was launched this week for Walt Disney World guests that had existing reservations at the resort hotels. Guests needed to be signed into the My Disney Experience login, and have an active theme park ticket to proceed through the system. Be sure to have your park ticket, any hotel reservations, and your party created before you begin for the easiest path through the system. On the first day, guests were then put into a virtual queue with a very inaccurate wait time. At that point, you could “view availability” much like the Flex Pass calendar system. Green showed all parks available, yellow for some parks available, and grey for no parks available. You select a date and the available parks are displayed. Then you will need to select a time to visit the park. Afterwards, you need to review and confirm your reservation. Multi-day tickets are required to make a reservation for every day of the ticket. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/06/first-look-at-new-theme-park-reservation-system-for-disneyland-and-walt-disney-world-revealed/ and https://wdwnt.com/2020/06/how-to-access-the-new-disney-park-pass-system-at-walt-disney-world-new-availability-calendar-available/ With the parks planned reopening approaching, the Incredibles have shown up to help guests remember the guidelines to attend. Frozone will remind you to check your temperature, Mrs. Incredible will remind you to maintain proper distance with others, Dash wants you to wash your hands, and Edna Mode will remind you to cover up with a mask. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/06/together-lets-make-your-next-disney-day-incredible/ If you are one of the folks excited to get back onto Disney property, then July 9th can’t come soon enough. Disney has posted a Know Before You Go poster on what to know and be prepared for when you get back to the resort. Downtown Disney will be the first part to open and will require a few things from guests. Parking and entrances to the area will be limited. Guests will need to self-park in the Simba lot and enter Downtown Disney from the west entrance or walk from Harbor Boulevard on the east entrance. Guest’s temperatures will be screened and anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed entry. Cleaning and sanitation will be emphasized with hand sanitizer and hand washing stations in key areas. Guests must bring their own face masks and wear them at all times, except for when dining. Physical distancing will be expected, along with limited capacity. Hours will vary by location and could be limited. Cashless payment is recommended, if at all possible. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/06/heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-phased-reopening-of-downtown-disney-district-at-disneyland-resort-beginning-july-9/ Disneyland has started recalling cast members back from the furlough. The union representing food and beverage workers said that Disney was going to recall 775 cast members who will return to work on June 28th. The union represents more than 7,850 cast members. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/06/22/news-disneyland-has-started-recalling-cast-members-from-furlough/ Not everyone is as excited as we are that Disneyland is planning to reopen. Some of the Disneyland employee unions are demanding that the reopening be pushed back due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases. The union represent 17,000 of the 31,000 cast members at the resort. The unions want Disneyland to check temperatures of cast members daily, and test employees for COVID-19. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/19/disneyland-employee-unions-demand-that-the-anaheim-theme-parks-not-reopen-on-july-17/ June is National Safety Month, which r

Disneyland will waive all hotel cancellation fees for arrivals through July 22nd. Guests are also able to make changes to existing reservations for July 23rd and beyond. Ep 147DLW 135: Fantasyland Dark Rides Pt. 2

This week, Phase 3 begins this week in California, what that means, could Disneyland reopen on it’s 65th anniversary?, Shanghai Disneyland virtual queuing coming to Disneyland?, merchandise changes, we finish talking about the Fantasyland dark rides, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. If you want some DLWeekly Swag, you can pick some up at https://www.dlweekly.net/store/. Book your travel through ConciEARS and get your first year of Touring Plans for FREE! Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: Friday, June 12th is when the State of California is scheduled to enter phase 3 of their resilience roadmap. This is when theme parks can reopen in the state as well. With this phase, Disneyland is one step closer to reopening. When it does, there will likely be a new booking process similar to that of Walt Disney World in Florida. Reservations may be required and visits may be limited for those with annual passes, giving preference to guests with vacation packages. – https://www.micechat.com/261011-disneyland-update-rumors-reopenings-and-renewal/ Everything seems to be pointing to a mid-July, possibly even a July 17th, reopening. Cast Members are beginning to return to work in the parks and readying the parks for guests. Cast Members estimate that it will take at least 30 days to reopen once they choose a date. The kitchens and restaurants will need to be thoroughly cleaned before food can be delivered. Sanitation will need to happen, along with installation of social distancing measures. – https://www.micechat.com/260892-david-koenig-tantalizingly-close-disneyland-announcement/ Shanghai Disneyland is using a virtual queue system that could be coming to Disneyland when it reopens. The new tool, called the Disney Standby Pass allows guests to create a queuing schedule through the park app. The system is similar to the MaxPass system, with passes being made available throughout the day on an hourly basis. Quotas are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis. The passes will stop distribution approximately 2 hours before park closing. Guests and any members of their party must be in the park and added to the app to use this system. Guests will have a one hour window to return to the attraction once their pass comes up. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/03/how-disneys-new-virtual-queue-system-works/ In a recent call from the local 362 union to members, the return of the Disney College Program was discussed. Union leader Eric Clinton told members on the call “if anyone thinks that College Program workers are coming back anytime soon, they are mistaken.” The possible upside is that regular, full-time and part-time cast members may get more hours and secured shifts. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/06/disney-college-program-is-not-likely-to-restart-soon-according-to-union/ When Walt Disney World reopens next month, there will be some merchandise changes. New collection product launches and limited-edition merchandise will not be available until further notice. Pin trading will continue, but only through pin boards with Cast Members, no package delivery will be offered, but shipping merchandise from the parks home will still be offered. Dressing rooms will be closed, and returns will still be offered. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/06/limited-edition-merchandise-releases-cancelled-for-foreseeable-future-disney-pin-trading-will-continue-at-walt-disney-world/ This week, the Walt Disney Company pledged $5 million to social justice nonprofits. Disney was one of the first big entertainment companies to show they support for fighting racism. $2 million will go to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (or the NAACP), with the remaining $3 million going to other nonprofits. Disney is also matching Cast Member donations to LGBTQ+ and Black Lives Matter causes. – https://www.micechat.com/260977-disney-pledges-5-million-to-social-justice-nonprofits/ Former Cast Member Cooper Howell posted on Facebook this week about his experience working in the Frozen: Live at the Hyperion show at Disney California Adventure. It began as a fairytale for Howell, who was cast as Prince Hans, a role typically played by a white male. He was surprised that he was cast in the role being a black male. Fellow Cast Member Domonique Paton was cast as Princess Anna. The fairytale ended with a staffing change and notes on his performance, along with sexual harassment because of his color. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/06/frozen-live-at-the-hyperion-cast-member-speaks-out-about-his-experience/ Discussion Topic: Alice in Wonderland Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_(Disneyland_attraction) Yesterland – https://www.yesterland.com/alice.html Pinocchio Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinocchio%27s_Daring_Journey Disney Wikia – https://disneyparks.fandom.com/wiki/Pinocchio%27s_Daring_Journey_(Disneyland_Park) Snow W

He is very optimistic that the Disney fans are excited to return to the parks and haven’t cancelled their reservations, which is a good sign. Chapek was pleased with the response to Disney Springs reopening and how things have been going in Shanghai. Online sales at shopDisney have also been strong. – https://www.micechat.com/260735-disneyland-update-unrest-reopenings-poll-results-reader-photos/ In hopefully the last time this will happen, Disneyland has pushed back reservations to July 15th. If you are wanting to visit the resort, that is the earliest that you can book a vacation at this time. This date has been changed a number of times over the last couple of months from May 1st, to June 1st, now to July 15th. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/01/disneyland-resort-hotels-push-back-reservations-until-mid-july/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/06/disneyland-resort-now-only-accepting-reservations-for-july-15-and-later/ Disneyland sent out a survey to Annual Passholders this week asking a number of questions, like when they would feel safe to return and under what circumstances. This survey was very similar to one that we spoke about on a previous episode from Universal Orlando Resort in Florida. – https://www.micechat.com/260625-disneyland-survey-illuminates-reopening-options-live-polls-included/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/01/disneyland-survey-asks-when-will-passholders-feel-safe-to-return/ and https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/01/disneyland-surveys-passholders-about-masks-temperature-checks-and-health-questionnaires/ Another aspect of the survey sent to Annual Passholders asked about possible ideas for the future. The most interesting of these was “How likely would you be to order Disneyland prepared food and beverages delivered to your home?” Could this mean that Disney might offer some form of food delivery service in the future? – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/06/02/disneyland-wants-to-deliver-monte-cristo-sandwiches-and-dole-whips-to-your-home/ The State of California has left the decision to reopen retail to the different counties in the state. If the county allows retail to open, they must follow the state’s guidelines such as temperature checks for employees, frequent sanitation, and social distancing. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/05/25/news-california-counties-can-now-decide-when-to-reopen-in-store-retail/ As early as this month, California may enter stage 3 of reopening. Stage 3 allows theme parks to resume operations with changes in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The parks will be able to open as long as the rate of infections and hospitalizations remain stable. Other businesses that can open in stage 3 include salons, gyms, theaters, religious services, and more. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/05/26/news-disneyland-could-potentially-reopen-in-less-than-a-month-says-california-officials/ and https://www.micechat.com/260735-disneyland-update-unrest-reopenings-poll-results-reader-photos/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/05/disneyland-resort-can-reopen-under-stage-3-of-californias-reopening-plan-governor-states-stage-3-could-begin-as-early-as-june/ Cast Members have been sending out thank you cards to healthcare workers around the country. News: Disney CEO Bob Chapek was interviewed on CNBC this week talking about what it is going to take to reopen the US parks. Chapek began talking about attendance and demand. They are really encouraged by what they are seeing from Shanghai’s first day. They are going to be very disciplined on how they open up, and are going to take their time. Chapek said that it has to be Disney operations in partnership with guest behavior to make it successful. The biggest challenge that he sees is getting guests to comply with things like masks, especially in the hot weather. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/05/bob-chapek-talks-about-the-future-of-phased-disney-parks-reopenings-films-and-his-role-as-ceo-on-interview-with-cnbc-emphasizes-guests-must-wear-masks-and-do-their-part-for-u-s-reopenings/ and https://www.cnbc.com/video/2020/05/11/watch-cnbcs-full-interview-with-disney-ceo-bob-chapek.html The Resort has updated their resort operations page online with updates on how they will handle the reopening of the parks. The machines that would be used for this would scan guests as they pass an entrance and only guests with an elevated temperature would be pulled aside for additional screening. – https://www.micechat.com/258995-disneyland-update-weeks-not-months/ Disneyland has been sending out surveys to guests trying to determine what guests want, expect, and would be comfortable with. What company, resort, local, state, and federal measures would be needed before they would come back and more. – https://www.micechat.com/258995-disneyland-update-weeks-not-months/ Reopening anything at the Disneyland Resort could be a ways off still, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel with the beginning of the phased reopening of Disney Springs out in Walt Disney World. For those not familiar with Disney Springs, it is basically Disney World’s version of Downtown Disney. The shopping and dining district will open with a limited number of third-party establishments. The rest of WDW will remain closed including the theme parks and resort hotels. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/05/disney-springs-begins-phased-reopening-on-may-20/ and https://wdwnt.com/2020/05/wdwnt-weekly-recap-shanghai-becomes-the-first-resort-to-reopen-disney-springs-phased-reopening-set-to-begin-this-month-a-shopdisney-security-scandal-company-losses-and-more/ With the update to the phased reopenings in the state of California, Disneyland might be closer to opening than many anticipated. Theme parks are not scheduled to open until Phase 3, which wasn’t expected to happen until late summer or later, but Governor Newsom said it could come in less than a month. – https://www.micechat.com/258995-disneyland-update-weeks-not-months/ On the evening of May 6th, Disney security teams at Disneyland and Walt Disney World shared some images from inside the parks during their shifts. News: As of Friday, March 27th, the Disneyland Resort will be closed “until further notice.” The parks will continue to be closed to guests beyond the April 1st date originally announced at the beginning of March. As COVID-19 continues to grow and be a problem around the world, the parks will continue to be closed until it is safe. An indication of when Disneyland will reopen will probably be the reopening of the Asian parks that closed before the domestic parks. – https://www.micechat.com/255266-breaking-news-disneyland-closure-extended/ Cast Members are scheduled to still be paid through April 18th. When the parks close earlier this month, Disney had give April 1st as the re-opening date. Since then, there has been a statewide stay at home issued until April 19th suggesting the parks will be extending their closure until at least then. Another hint as to when the parks may reopen was that Disney quietly launched a hotel promotion for their resort hotels valid on stays from April 19th through June 18th. Stays must be booked now though May 31st. – https://www.micechat.com/254880-disneyland-update-the-painful-afterglow/ Last week we reported that Disneyland planned to donate their excess food to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The numbers are in and Disney was able to donate 58,090 pounds, or 38,726 meals! – https://www.micechat.com/254880-disneyland-update-the-painful-afterglow/ The Disneyland app had a routine update last week. This is something that usually isn’t noteworthy however after the update a new option was added on the menue. Currenty virtual queues are used when new attractions open, much like the boadring pass system used for the opening of Galaxy’s Edge and Rise of the Resistance. The new Virtual Queues option might suggest they are planning to use this once Avengers Campus opens or could this be a hint that virtual queues may be added to some of the popular, classic attractions? – https://www.micechat.com/254571-disneyland-app-refresh-hints-at-theme-park-future/ Any Weeklyteers have unused tabs left on your sip and savor pass? Good news for you, Disney has filed a permit with the city of Anaheim that suggest the Food and Wine Festival will be extended. Ep 135DLW 123: Now what?

This week, Disneyland, along with every other Disney Park around the world is closed, what is happening inside the closed parks, what the last day was like, what Disney is doing for guests who planned to visit during the closure, we talk to Erik from ConciEARS about refunds and cancellations, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. It is that time of year again when we want to hear from you! If you have a few minutes, please head on over to dlweekly.net/survey and fill out our listener survey. Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: On Saturday, March 14th, Disneyland took an unprecedented step and closed its gates until at least the end of March, but probably much longer. The state of California had given Disneyland an exemption to the mandate of no more than 250 people in one location, but Disney decided to close the park anyway. As of this recording, all Disney parks around the world are closed. Currently, the plan is to keep them closed until the end of the month, but the Centers for Disease Control have recommended no large gatherings for the next 8 weeks. That would put us at the week of May 3rd. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/03/12/news-disneyland-to-temporarily-close-this-saturday-due-to-coronavirus-concerns/ and https://www.micechat.com/254305-new-cdc-recommendations-hint-at-delay-in-disney-parks-reopening/ With the closure of the parks, there was a lot of food on hand that would have gone bad. Disney has donated the excess food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. This includes dairy, fruit, vegetables, packaged goods, and banquet meals. Last year, Disney donated over 20,000 meals to Second Harvest. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/03/13/news-disneyland-will-be-donating-its-excess-food-during-coronavirus-closure/ For Annual Passholders, the closure brings up additional questions. If you paid for 365 days of access, but the park is closed, how is the resort handling that? Disneyland has stated that valid annual passholders will have their passes expiration date extended based on the pass type and level of access due to impacts of the closure. What about monthly payments? Disneyland will still collect the monthly payment as scheduled. Payment will not be required for the extended period. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/03/14/updates-for-disneyland-resort-annual-passholders-during-coronavirus-closure/ The Disney College Program, which employed thousands of college students at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, was suspended on March 15th, with all participants required to leave the housing provided by Disney by March 18th. Participants will be paid through the end of the month and not be charged for housing. They will receive a completion certificate, allowing them to work for the company again in the future. Disneyland has approximately 4-500 students, while Disney World has 3-4,000 students. – https://www.micechat.com/254103-disney-suspends-college-program-due-to-park-closures/ For those guests that stuck it out in the rain, Disneyland gave a touching farewell. A lot of characters, music, and cast, along with Disneyland Resort President Rebecca Campbell, gathered at the Main Street Train Station to say goodbye for now. The Disneyland Resort Ambassadors posted a video of the event that we have linked in the show notes. – https://www.micechat.com/254297-disneyland-news-update-the-unthinkable-happens/ and https://www.facebook.com/disneylandambassador/videos/1813447722119647/ On the last day of operation for the resort before the closure, crowds were light. Part of the reason for this was the rain. Everytime it rains, the resort has lower crowd levels. Based on this, it is hard to tell how much lower the guest turnout was based on COVID-19 alone. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/03/13/photos-see-what-crowds-are-like-at-disneyland-the-day-before-park-closure-due-to-coronavirus-concerns/ With the parks closed, Disneyland has wasted no time in starting on a number of projects. Refurbishments of attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean have been started, pavement on Main Street has been torn up, and, of course, deep cleaning is happening all over the resort. However, come Monday, all that work has been halted and only a skeleton crew is on site in the parks. – https://www.micechat.com/254297-disneyland-news-update-the-unthinkable-happens/ and https://www.micechat.com/254394-disneyland-update-part-2-tragic-happens/ Downtown Disney has adjusted operating hours from it’s usual 7am to 1am, now operating from 10am to 10pm. They are made on Sundays and finished on Mondays, when you can purchase them. They are limited to 2 per guest and come in five different flavors. For $9.99, you can pick up chocolate fudge, peanut butter, black walnut fudge, vanilla creme, and vanilla nut cream. – https://www.micechat.com/253279-disneyland-update-spring-virus/ It may be the start of the Spring Break season at Disneyland, but the crowds have been light since the onset of the Coronavirus. The first place this was noticed was the boarding groups for Rise of the Resistance being available for quite a while after park opening. Even popular attractions like Indiana Jones and Smuggler’s Run were less than 25 minute waits on Friday, usually a busy day. – https://www.micechat.com/253279-disneyland-update-spring-virus/ In a move to encourage more passholders to come to the park, Disney has launched its new AP Magic program. The program highlights things like the extra hour to ride select attractions, passholder-only meet and greets, special event pre-sale tickets, discounts and more. – https://www.micechat.com/253279-disneyland-update-spring-virus/ Some discounts are coming to an end soon, so take advantage of them now if you can. Finally, the 3-day, one park per day child ticket for $67 per day ends on May 18th, with the ticket good until May 21st. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/03/09/these-3-disneyland-discounts-are-ending-soon-find-out-how-to-save-with-them-here/ With the Spring weather settling in around the resort, the trees in the parks have started to bloom. The most beautiful of these are the Pink Lapacho (lah-paa-chow) trees that are in the hub. Other than the trees, there are a number of Spring flowers that are blooming around the parks that make this time of year exceptionally beautiful. – https://www.micechat.com/253279-disneyland-update-spring-virus/ Disney’s Chief Medical Officer of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products released a statement, which in part reads “As part of our commitment to the health and well-being of our cast, guests and the larger community, we are carefully monitoring the evolving coronavirus situation and are in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, are welcoming guests as usual and we continue to implement preventive measures in line with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health agencies.” – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12605/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_March_9__15_2020#news1 For anyone interested in seeing some Disney history just a short distance away from Disneyland, the Bowers Museum is hosting the Walt Disney Archives now through August 30th. There was a special early preview of the parade on Thursday, with the official opening on Friday. The new parade has some mixed reviews. From the Weeklyteers in our chat that have seen it, they liked it. Others online thought it wasn’t a good Disney parade. After viewing videos online of the parade during the day and in the evening, this is certainly better experienced in the evening. There are a lot of lighting effects on the floats that are lost in the bright Southern California sun. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-video-new-magic-happens-parade-dazzles-after-dark-with-special-light-effects-at-disneyland/ A new Dulche de Leche Sundae has premiered with the Magic Happens parade. Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: Disney has posted an audition listing looking for performers to be in the Avengers Campus stunt show. The listing is looking for a Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain America, Spider-Man, and a villain that has not been named. The listing calls for experience and athletic skills to perform high-intensity stunts including stage combat, weapon combat, tumbling, and more. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/disney-auditions-listing-reveals-characters-for-the-upcoming-avengers-campus-stunt-show/ Disneyland is enjoying letting a lot of the cat out of the bag with the upcoming Magic Happens Parade as they have released even more pictures and video of the upcoming parade online this week. The lead float that will feature Mickey Mouse was front and center with these posts. Numbers were also released that show the parade will contain 9 floats, 2 new songs, and over 90 performers. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-video-sorcerer-mickey-float-performer-costumes-and-more-revealed-for-magic-happens-parade-at-disneyland/ Even though we are still a couple of years away from Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway from opening in Toon Town here at Disneyland, Cast Member previews will be starting next week for the attraction opening next month at Hollywood Studios out in Walt Disney World. Cast Members will be able to experience the new attraction from February 22nd through March 2nd. March 3rd is the media event, with it opening to the public on March 4th. This will be the first time we have seen any substantial part of this attraction, and its potentially groundbreaking technology. – https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/mickey-and-minnies-runaway-railway/news/14feb2020-cast-previews-to-begin-soon-at-mickey-and-minnies-runaway-railway.htm FastPass was added this week to the Autopia and Monsters, Inc. With the addition of the service to these attractions, the standby lines have skyrocketed. The typical wait time for Monsters, Inc was under 20 minutes, but since FastPass, has been around 60 minutes, much of that time in an uncovered queue outside. The Autopia was just as bad with the entire elevated queue filling up for standby. – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/ Do or do not, there is no try. For guests wanting to get a boarding pass, the weekdays are turning out to be the best days to “do” that. This past Wednesday and Thursday, boarding groups were available for about an hour after park opening. The operation of the attraction, as well as the amount of boarding groups that make it into the attraction has varied by day. Some days mid-hundred groups were called, while others barely got through the 80s. – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/ A remnant from the past has taken up residence outside of the Haunted Mansion. A sign that was designed by Disney Legend Marty Sklar has reappeared, lit by a ghostly blue light in the evening. The sign becons guests to retire to the Haunted Mansion and “scare the daylights” out of guests. Reservations are available by sending a resume of past experience to the “Ghost Relations Department at Disneyland.” – https://www.micechat.com/250934-disneyland-update-the-real-price-of-fastpass/ It is Mardi Gras season, and Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen is holding a contest to become “Royalty for the Day”. By liking the Jazz Kitchen on Facebook and entering, you could become King and Queen of Mardi Gras. The King and Queen will be honorary judges of the Mardi Gras costume contest on February 25th. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/15/you-can-be-royalty-for-a-day-at-this-disneyland-restaurant/ At the Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland, a new sweet treat has appeared. The Galactic Parfait has layers of blue cheesecake on top of chocolate cake, with purple mousse at the bottom with raspberry marmalade. The top is covered in a Glitter Glaze with edible stars and a hollow milk chocolate decoration. The treat itself is pretty sweet and is available for $5.99. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/12/review-the-galactic-parfait-sparkles-

Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: Disney reported their first quarter earnings report last week and the results were mixed. Disney+ already has 26.5 million subscribers, but at a loss of $800 million this quarter and an expected $900 million loss next quarter. This was expected. At the parks, attendance increased 2% and guest spending was up because of higher prices all around. Next quarter will be telling with Rise of the Resistance adding to the quarter and the impact of the Coronavirus closures in Asia. – https://www.micechat.com/249826-disney-and-closed-parks-examining-disneys-q1-financial-results/ This Tuesday, we awoke to news that prices have once again increased for tickets to the happiest place on earth. The single day ticket now has 5 tiers, instead of the previous 3 for value, regular and peak days. One day tickets went up 3 percent upper tier tickets and 3 to 5 percent on 1 Day Park Hoppers. Multi-day tickets increased from 3 percent on the 3-Day Park Hopper to just under 6 percent on the 5-Day, one-park-per-day ticket. Annual passes are up 4 percent on the Deluxe Pass to just over 8 percent on the new Flex Pass. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/02/breaking-disneyland-resort-rolls-out-ticket-price-increases-ahead-of-marvel-avengers-campus-opening/ Disneyland didn’t stop at the ticket prices, the add-on MaxPass also saw a price increase. MaxPass started at $10 per person, per day a few years ago and increased to $15 last year and is now $20. If you have an annual pass, the add-on has increased from $100 to $125. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/02/disneyland-resort-increasing-price-on-disney-maxpass-digital-fastpass-service-for-2020/ With the increased cost of MaxPass, Disney has decided to add FastPass to two attractions at the resort. The Autopia is returning to a FastPass attraction, while Monsters Inc, Mike and Sully to the Rescue will be getting it for the first time. – https://www.micechat.com/249991-disneyland-update-sparks-fly-as-holiday-hearts-arrive/ In addition to a couple of the more classic attractions, FastPass is coming to Galaxy’s Edge for the first time with the Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction. There is no firm date on when this will launch, but the infrastructure is in place for it, so it could be any time now. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/02/millennium-falcon-smugglers-run-coming-soon-to-disney-fastpass-and-disney-maxpass-at-disneyland/ Reservations are now avaialble for a new dining package at the Plaza Inn for Magic Happens. The new parade debuts on February 28th, with the lunch dining package on the same date. The lunch includes a lunch entrée, a beverage, a Plaza Inn credential, and a voucher for the parade reserved viewing area. The lunch is $40 per adult and $25 per child ages 3-9. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/02/new-magic-happens-dining-package-coming-to-plaza-inn-at-disneyland-reservations-now-open/ With the new Magic Happens parade coming at the end of the month, there is also some new merchandise! There are new ears, a baseball style tee, a sipper, and more. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/02/photos-new-magic-happens-parade-mickey-ears-apparel-souvenir-sipper-and-more-coming-to-disneyland-on-february-28/ On Friday, February 7th, a fire broke out behind Main Street near the fire station and between the Emporium and the Jungle Cruise. The fire caught some of the bamboo on fire, but noone was injured. Half of Main Street and all of Adventureland lost power for a period of time causing evacuations for safety. Cast members reported that it may have been caused by a transformer backstage. – https://www.micechat.com/249991-disneyland-update-sparks-fly-as-holiday-hearts-arrive/ With all of the other holidays getting lavish makeovers around the parks, it is a surprise that Valentines Day doesn’t get much love. This year, there are two locations that have decor up for the occassion. There is a photo op in town square where the Christmas tree and Mickey pumpkin usually are setup, and a small display in the Candy Palace. – https://www.micechat.com/249991-disneyland-update-sparks-fly-as-holiday-hearts-arrive/ Just because the decorations are light, doesn’t mean there

Just mention that you heard about ConciEARS from DLWeekly at booking! News: Disney has been pushing the innovations that they have been making in the area of animatronics recently. This week, they posted all over the internet a video of their new creation: the stunt Spiderman coming to Avenger’s Campus this summer. This animatronic will take the place of a live action human doing stunts above the area. The videos posted look very good and we are excited to see how they integrate this into the new land, and how often! – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/01/spider-man-swings-into-action-above-avengers-campus-at-disney-california-adventure-park/ and https://www.micechat.com/249371-high-flying-spider-man-stunts-over-disneylands-avengers-campus/ Those of you on the fence about attending Sweethearts Night at Disneyland, here are some details that may sway you. There is only one night with tickets left, February 12th. A Royal Princess Ball will take place with Aurora, Prince Philip, Aladdin, Jasmine, Cinderella, and Prince Charming. The Mark Twain will offer moonlight cruises, and the Golden Horseshoe will host a “Tempus Fugit Celebration”, paying tribute to Walt and Lillian’s 30th anniversary that was held just 4 days before Disneyland’s opening in 1955. A love song themed dance party with Princess Tiana, Naveen, Hercules, Megara, and, of course, Mickey and Minnie! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/01/30/get-the-all-the-sweet-details-on-the-ultimate-disneyland-date-night-here/ A couple of dining establishments in Downtown Disney will be offering special Valentine’s Day menu options. Tortilla Jo’s will be offering a three course meal including a chice of Pan Seared Chicken Breast or Pan Seared Mahi-Mahi, an appetizer, and a chocolate abuelita cheesecake. Catal is also offering a package for $85 per person and includes a choice of starter, entree, and dessert from a special menu. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/01/29/valentines-day-menus-for-two-more-disneyland-resort-restaurants-announced/ The 80’s came to Disneyland After Dark last week, and it was certainly a party! Projection overlays came to it’s a small world and Sleeping Beauty Castle, making these areas reminiscent of an 80’s dance club. A live DJ, music videos (does anyone remember those?) and dancers revived Videopolis in Fantasyland. 80’s characters were available for pictures including Mousercise Mickey, Roger Rabbit, and even Ewoks! The one downside to the night was the cancellation of the Awesome After Dark – Fireworks to the Max show due to weather. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/01/30/the-raddest-thing-happened-at-disneyland-last-night-and-weve-got-all-the-details/ In addition to the artwork that was installed on the gates of the Haunted Mansion that we talked about on last weeks episode, the original sketch for the attraction has popped up on the scrims covering the ghostly manor. Snow White’s Scary Adventure has also received a decorative scrim during its extended refurbishment. – https://www.micechat.com/249405-disneyland-resort-update-pass-luck-and-passed-over/ Over in Fantasyland, there is more work going on as King Arthur’s Carousel is also behind scrims and receiving a refresh. The history of the attraction and some photos have been installed on the walls surrounding the attraction to spice things up a bit. – https://www.micechat.com/248815-disneyland-update-snow-show-grow/ Once again from February 28th through April 21st, Soarin’ Over California will return to Grizzly Peak Airfield. The return of this classic, that some say is more appropriate for California Adventure, is scheduled alongside the Food and Wine Festival. – https://www.micechat.com/249660-soarin-over-california-returning-to-disney-california-adventure/ If you missed your chance to use the cool themed sporks that were stocked in Docking Bay 7 when Galaxy’s Edge opened, you are going to love this news! The sporks have returned to the dining establishment on Batuu, but the sporks are now for sale and not provided with your meal. For $10.99 you can own one of these unique utensils. The spork comes with a cloth carrying case. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com
